Review for a Europe - All Cruise on Zhao Shang Yi Dun (Viking Sun)

My Mom and I chose this cruise because of the countries/ports visited. My Mom had never been to Scotland or Ireland and this cruise gave her the opportunities to visit both as well as parts of England that she hadn't seen. Our departure was from London, the embarkation process went fairly smoothly at the port. Although once on board, the staff seemed a bit frazzled as though there was ...

Dorothy, You’re not on Seabourn Anymore

We have cruised on Seabourn for our previous 7 cruises, but we liked the Viking itinerary from Durban to London because we have dear friends that live in Durban, whom we visited a couple of days before our cruise. A few days after booking this cruise, we got a flier from Viking offering the same cabin on the same itinerary for $1000 less/pp. We called our travel agent as we do when that happens ...

We just returned from "Along Africa's Western Shore" where we found ourselves joining (unwittingly!!) the last 4 weeks of a World Cruise, with a major impact on our experience! I have looked at many negative reviews of this cruise on cruise critic and I can assure everyone that they are all true!! This is a lengthy review but it's only a summary of the key issues we faced.: there is much more I ...

We chose to do the last segment of a World Cruise because of its southern African Itinerary. The highlight of this journey was the pre-cruise extension, a safari to Krueger National Park in South Africa. This extension was well worth the time and money. We chose to let Viking plan our air travel and we were very happy with our flights (NYC to Heathrow and then on to Johannesburg). Viking had us ...

Underwhelmed

We picked this cruise line based on reviews and reputation. We picked this cruise for the its itinerary and excursions. Viking missed the mark all too often, then when they had the opportunity to offer some accommodation for their error - chose to pour gasoline on the fire. Save your money and your sanity - sail another cruise line. I will acknowledge that the ship is lovely, but that is ...

The cruise was good, restaurant, bar and housekeeping staff were exceptional, but if you had to deal with the cruise director, there was no service, just talking down to you very rudely. The shore excursions were very good, however all the best tours were already booked, as it was a world cruise, which we were not aware of, so almost all of the deluxe tours that you had to pay for were ...

First Time Cruiser • Age 60s

We chose this cruise to see some of Australia as well as experience Vikings ocean cruise service for our first time. The service was excellent and matched what we had experienced in the past on their river cruises. All of the activities and amenities were well run and the staff were very helpfull and efficient. The food service was top tier and the chefs menus were well thought out and never got ...

We chose this cruise because it was 30 days across southern Australia, across the Indian Ocean, and parts of South Africa. We had never been on a Viking Ocean Cruise before, only Rivers across Europe and China on Viking. We were surprised at how quickly we acclimated to being on the ship for 30 days but the time went quickly. Viking is a first rate operation with passenger comfort a top ...

Viking Sun is a simply lovely ship, kept in immaculate condition, by a crew that was second to none. The service is outstanding, from the Cleaners to the Captain, a friendly ,kind, caring group of people that would be difficult to replicate, I think. The public spaces on Viking Sun are restful, comfortable ,elegant and so well thought out. So many places to just simply "Be". The word of Hygge ...

This was not a typical Vicing ocean cruise - it was the 30 day second leg of the round the world cruise, going from Valparaiso, Chile to Sidney, Australia. We chose it specifically to see Australia and New Zealand, and also Easter Island, all on our bucket list. There were only ~300 passengers booked on the entire round the world tour, and only ~400 additional who rode the second leg like us, so ...
