We’ve always wanted to go on a cruise to Italy and this was the best one we could find for the dates we wanted. The cruise was excellent and the service was exceptional. The ship and cabins were exceptionally clean but this is a new ship for Viking. Our only complaint about the cruise is that some of the included excursions were bus tours of the cities which gave us few opportunities for taking photos. The tour guide were very knowledgeable about the places they showed us but were difficult to understand on the bus tours. If you want to spend time in Rome, I suggest you get there a day or two earlier or purchase the pre cruise package. Dining on the ship was excellent with some of the best European food we’ve had. With the buffet style World Cafè for breakfast, lunch and dinner, you should never go hungry. And did I mention that the food is awesome? This was our second time on a Viking tour (our first was a river cruise) and there is no doubt in my mind, there will be more. Read Less

We traveled with our good friends from Wyoming and decided to try an ocean cruise following a great river cruise we had to France about 2 years prior to this trip. We were overall very happy with the entire cruise with very few exceptions. The ship was new so everything was wonderful from the cabins to the fitness area. We especially enjoyed the explorers lounge and the restaurants available each evening to enjoy wine and dinner with our friends. We were happy to dress up for the dinner each evening which added a special touch to the experience. In addition to the dining, we enjoyed the tours. We were especially happy that Viking provided plenty of education and information prior to touring each city on the cruise. We left feeling we knew so much more about the country and people. Our friends were a little disappointed with the reservation system for purchasing tours due to the fact there was limitation on numbers which did not allow us to choose the same tours for all of us on certain stops. They also were frustrated that exceptions were not made to accommodate adjustment to our tour schedules in order to allow us to be together even though we tried to call ahead of time within the guide lines and timelines. The consumer service department did help us at the last minute to grab a couple of spots on one of our tours and that was very helpful. We understand the priorities based on type of cabin, but the most popular options might be better to add additional seats rather than limit them based on a fixed number. Despite this issue we felt all the tour guides were very good and well prepared to deliver a quality tour experience. The buses and destinations for the most part were great and gave us a nice picture of the culture and people living in Italy. The entertainment was very good, however might have been geared more for an older group as we are all in our late 50s and early 60s and would like to see a bit more variety. Overall, however, we enjoyed most of the shows especially the opera night. We were very impressed with the detail to service throughout the entire boat. We had no bad service during the cruise and enjoyed being pampered during our stay. We plan use Viking every other year to allow us to tour more parts of the world. We feel that the cost is the only thing keeping us from traveling with you every year. We would have probably booked another trip, but we did not understand the savings of booking while on the boat until late in the process. We did not have time to get with your people and discuss due to the busy schedule at the end of the trip. Hats off to all the hard working people on the Viking ship!! we had a great time. Read Less

Rome was number one on my bucket list, and that wasn’t the only place in Italy I wanted to see. Many of my friends had been on various Viking Cruises including the first round the World on the Viking Sun. Heard nothing but excellent on all their trips. Everything went so smoothly for a first timer. Was concerned about airlines but things went ok going to Italy. Stuck in Venice airport coming back to USA, but that was weather. Now the ship was wonderful and I normally get sea sick. Didn’t. So smooth. Cabin was like a small apartment. Plenty of room, drawers, closets....PV1 cabin. All food was good, but I really enjoyed the World Cafe. So many choices and I did not get anything that was not good. There is The Restaurant ( problems sometimes) and others that you need to make the reservations for that were excellent. All ports were great, some better than others. We didn’t have any problems with excursions, and loved Sicily and Croatia (Krka Falls). Read Less

We began our trip with the extension in Tuscany, which was well worth both the time and money. Our Viking guide made it a very interesting and seamless time. The ship was very new, and the only problem was that the coffeemaker in our cabin was not working. No problem, as we loved having an American in the Living Room! The main dining room was excellent both for breakfast and for dinner. There is plenty of room in the public areas, so you never felt crowded. It is a very serene environment, just what we like after sightseeing. All of the staff was most eager to please, and provided service without intruding. We particularly enjoyed our excursions to Taormina, Bari and Venice. It was very hot, but they always had cold washcloths for us when we returned to the ship. This was our first Viking Ocean cruise after having taken two Viking River cruises. We enjoyed both experiences. Read Less

We had done two Viking River Cruises and wanted to experience a sea cruise. We were happy with our choice and the whole experience was wonderful including the food, the crew and the wonderful ship. We were impressed with the furnishings and the books were much appreciated as well as the extras such as blankets and cushions. We felt that we were very safe and cared for and that is important as we are seniors and far from home. Everyone on the ship were friendly and helpful. The entertainment was amazing and we think it surpassed any others we have had on vacations. The choices of music and dance were very good and also we do like the talks you gave us on our venues and some of the history. We really appreciated the Viking presence at the airports, the hotels for extensions and also in Venice at the ferry boats. We felt that though in a strange city we were always able to get advice and help when needed which is a great comfort. The cabin ard was very helpful and kept our state room amacculate and made sure our provisions were always replaced. Thank you for a wonderful experience. We hope to make another cruise in the near future. Read Less

We heard Viking’s Ocean Cruises were No. 1 so we decided t go with it. Great decision!!! People were so nice, food was delicious, tours beautiful and the whole trip a wonderful experience. We highly recommend it to everyone we talk to. Breakfast was always very tasty and friendly service everywhere. When we had lunch onboard we always had choices around the ship. Dinners were the best! Special restaurants were available with gourmet meals and wines! Entertainment was always available with so much talent. Special bars were located all over the ship with very friendly and helpful bartenders. The pools were fun to jump into at the end of very hot days. Overall I just have to say that it was the best trip we have ever been on. Thank you for a trip of a lifetime! Read Less

Viking knows it’s business and excels at it. The new ships are elegant and (as usual) meals, service and entertainment were all excellent. Our embarkation in Rome was noteworthy as we were greeted at the airport and driven to the ship in a singular car (not a bus). The restaurants were very nice, the food quality excellent and the staff friendly and respectful. We particularly liked Manfredi’s, but we’re also impressed with the selection and quality in the World Cafe and noted the kitchen staff’s hard work and obvious pride in presentation and service. The entertainment was “Near-Broadway”; the performers were very good and the staging and theatrics impressive. The ships public areas were beautiful; signage and directions done well (it’s a big vessel, getting disoriented was not uncommon); and elevators and stairwells adequate for the number of users. The rooms were large and well appointed; with a large bathroom, ample closet and drawer space and a very helpful and attentive “Butler.” Lastly, the payment methods for beverages and tips was a welcome improvement. The excursions were well executed, but we had mixed feelings about them in part due to one guests walking limitations. The excursion guides should be more explicit in describing the amount and difficulty levels of the excursion. Naples was ok, but the amount of walking was problematic. Sicily was great. Crotone was unimpressive. Bari was gorgeous and the walking tour well executed. Crotia was perhaps the most beautiful harbor, but the walking tour was too hilly and difficult. Venice was, unsurprisingly, mobbed. Read Less

Viking was wonderful! They met us at he airport and delivered us to the hotel in which we stayed in Rome. A beautiful hotel, which was part of their package. There were Viking agents there almost round the clock to help us with anything. They took us on to the ship. The embarkation was the best of any ship we have taken. Smooth and efficient. Then the ship was absolutely beautiful. Our bags arrived very promptly and our cabin steward was right there to make sure that we were settled in and aquatinted with everything. The cabin was spacious, beautiful and very comfortable, as was the bathroom. It is a beautifully appointed ship with ample comfortable and elegant seating throughout. The ships staff were welcoming and helpful. I really can’t say enough about this entire experience. We stayed two extra nights in Venice, as we have always loved that city, and although the hotel was across the water from St Marks, it was very pleasant. In fact the hotel itself was amazing and very comfortable. This was our first experience with Viking, but it certainly will not be our last. So many passengers on our ship were repeat clients. All sang the praises of both the ocean and the river cruises...our next adventure! Read Less

Excellent service on a previous river cruise allowed us to look forward to this ocean cruise with much happy anticipation. Our pre-cruise stay in Madrid was wonderful. Our hotel was near the public transportation line and we had no trouble traveling throughout the beautiful city. We spent two days at the Prado and surrounding area, and never tired of walking around the town. The bullet train took us to Barcelona for our cruise, but the scheduling allowed us a second full day to explore the city and enjoy the food before we left port. We enjoyed the various dining options on the ship. The main restaurant offered table service for breakfast and dinner with a good variety of selections. It had open seating, and we never had to wait more than a couple of minutes to be seated. The World Cafe on an upper deck had a huge selection of choices in a buffet setting with both indoor and outdoor seating. In addition, there is a grill near the main pool and Mamsen's, offering some lighter fare in the comfortable Explorers Lounge. Finally, the ship offers to specialty restaurants for which reservations are required. Manfredi's offers Italian themed dishes; while The Chef's Table serves a fixed, five-course, "themed" menu that changes every couple of evenings. There is an included shorre excursion in each port, plus numeroud optional choices at additional cost. We found all the excursion guides to be extremely knowledgeable and engaging. Giulia's "Art and Architecture" tour in Florence was fascinating and fun. Swimming in the Mediterranean Sea while docked in Monaco was another highlight of our trip. Our post-cruise stay in Rome allowed us to experience the beautiful city and see Michelangelo's David. Traveling on the "Hop on-hop off" bus gave us the opportunity to explore many of the historic sites. We've already booked our next cruise with them for the Viking Homelands. Read Less

This was an excellent cruise line. One of the outstanding features is that it is really an adults only cruise. I have nothing against children but it's not relaxing when you have to listen to whiny children on a cruise you've worked so hard to be able to pay for. Time and place, etc. It was educational as well. Shore excursions offerings were spectacular and educational. The guides provided were excellent and knew their stuff. Another plus with Viking is that they don't try to sell you things while you are on your vacation. Have cruised Royal Caribbean's Alaska Cruise. While that cruise was enjoyable, they were always trying to sell us things like liquor packages, pictures, etc. They did not do this on Viking. Also big plus was the size of the ship. It was smaller and more intimate yet inclusive. Staff was excellent. Meals were very good. So nice to have a veranda in every stateroom. Would highly recommend Viking and will go again in two years on another cruise. Read Less

First, we, like many others on the ship, did not realize that the itinerary could be extended to 14 days and we disembarked at Civitavecchia. The embarkation in Barcelona was somehow affected by the local taxi strike, causing us to sit on a bus (thankfully, air-conditioned) in the port for an hour rather than a lounge at the World Trade Center. Because the Viking Gaudi tour was already sold out, we booked a tour from Viatours, which we had to meet at Park Guell. Since the taxis still were not running, we were forced to use the metro & walk uphill to the park in the 90+ temperatures. However, Sagrada Familia was worth it! The other shore excursions were a mix of the free ones included by Viking & ones we purchased from Viking prior to the trip. In looking at similar tours offered by Norwegian, we noted that the Viking was significantly cheaper for the same excursion. Having taken the Norwegian cruise in the Hawaiian Islands last year, we noticed how many things for which Norwegian charged and Viking did not. As a person who drinks a lot of water, I was happy to find this was free; Norwegian charged $40 for a case of water on that cruise! We did not buy the upgraded drink package but were quite happy with the quality of the wines with lunch & dinner which followed the countries where we docked. Refills were offered in the dining venues. Drinks in the bar areas were an additional, but not unreasonable, charge. I was surprised that another reviewer criticized the food. I never encountered anything that I felt was over-salted, & I tend to under-salt our food at home as my husband has blood pressure issues. While getting into the 2 premium (but free) venues was not easy, we dined once in both. The Chef's Table was particularly elegant, with wine pairings for each course from the standard pours. One night when we could not get into The Chef's Table, we had to settle for Beef Wellington at the World Cafe! There was an additional buffet on the open deck area of the World Cafe/Aquavit Bar where local specialties were grilled to order. In all, we felt the quality and variety food was outstanding. Service was above average, and we certainly did not encounter anyone with an attitude. Having a free launderette on each cabin deck was an added perk. Soap was automatically supplied at the push of a button. Our biggest regret is that we did not make an appointment for one of the planetarium shows. We enjoyed the deck party and movies in the pool area. Regarding the pools, the depth was not graduated & more than 5' deep in the main pool, more than I prefer. However, we had plenty of other things to do since there were no days when we were not in a port. Read Less

The buffet was unlike any that I have encountered before. Clean presentation, portions that were realistic & service above reproach. The dinning room was also fabulous. The attention to detail was very apparent. The staff made you feel very welcomed. I have to say one of the highlights was the spa area. I was so unique & inviting. Many cruises just get you into this area to upsell their products. Not Viking, they really want you to enjoy their unique area..the snow room... fantastic! Our cabin staff was so attentive. Orion was immaculate, a new ship and the crew was together just two months prior to our sailing; so in essence, everyone was "new" onboard. In true Viking fashion, everything went very smoothly (for us). We essentially sailed what's now called Mediterranean Odyssey (Barcelona to Venice). Our cruise was somehow overbooked, so the ship seemed more crowded than usual, full capacity I'm sure. (We've cruised with Viking several times, both River and Ocean.) Nonetheless, they asked for daily real-time feedbacks and seemed to make adjustments along the way. Overall, the trip was very enjoyable. Unfortunately, just about every port we went to was extremely hot. The walking tours would have been wonderful strolls otherwise. Nevertheless, we saw and learned so much. The trip gave us what we wanted: an overview of the land for future visits. Things that were unexpectedly outstanding: the cruise director and the entertainment. The cruise director was very personable and talented. He also mixed with the crowd. We found the singing/dancing by the four young people at the theater totally amazing. When not performing, they greeted us at the theater doors, and impressed us as ordinary people, all from the UK. When on stage, however, they transformed into professional performers who sang ABBA, Beatles, and Broadway songs. Their choreography was excellent. I was transported back to the 60s/70s. Parts of the Broadway songs even brought tears to my eyes--just wonderful performance. Read Less

We selected this ship and its itinerary as we wanted to visit this part of the world and this cruise fit our schedule. I particularly wanted to see Barcelona and return to Monte Carlo. This brand new ship, the Viking Orion, was beautiful. I loved the design and openness of the ship and the various touches of technology. Food was first rate, and all of the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. My only complaint was that the entertainment, particularly the musicians, were not of the quality that I have come to expect on most ships. Given the competitive nature of auditioning to be selected as a cruise ship musician, I am surprised that they were not more skilled. It would also have been nice if there were more options on board the ship when we were "at sea". Shore excursions were wonderful, and it was a real treat to have WIFI, wine, shore excursions, etc. part of an all-inclusive fare. This is extremely enticing! All in all, a wonderful experience! Viking was our first and only choice for an ocean cruise. The Viking Orion is a smaller ship with only 930 passengers (a huge selling point for us). We did a 15 Day Grand European river cruise two years prior so we knew what level of service to expect. They did not disappoint! First class again in every way! We were welcomed at the Barcelona World Trade Centre by the Viking staff with smiles and cold bottled water. Viking is extremely organized and buttoned down. Check in was as smooth as silk. Our stateroom was not available until 2:00 p.m. so we were told to make our way to The World Cafe and lunch would be available. We were onboard the ship within minutes and welcomed with cold clothes and champagne. Nice touch! As an aside, this cruise was in recognition of our wedding anniversary. Viking delivered a bottle of chilled champagne and beautiful cake after we arrived in our stateroom. Both were very tasty! The ship overall is very beautiful and modern. You really feel like you are on a luxury cruise ship. Our stateroom was perfect for the two of us. It was extremely clean. The bathroom was a good size, lots of room in the shower. Plenty of storage space, heated floors, quality toiletries/towels, etc. all replenished daily. They provide luxury robes and slippers. The bed was super comfortable. I'm still trying to figure out how there wasn't one hint of a wrinkle in a pillow case or the duvet cover after they made up our room! There is plenty of closet and drawer space. We asked for extra hangers which were delivered within minutes. An added touch was having daily information about the cruise and ports of call on the stateroom television. Restaurant menus were updated daily so we could decide beforehand where we wanted to go for dinner. If we missed the evening talk about our next port of call, we could watch it later that evening or the following morning. You could also view the status of your account on board. There were several dining options available. Food selections at the specialty restaurants were plentiful. The Chef's Table was gourmet delicious! There were many choices offered from the buffet restaurant food stations and the Aquavit Terrace daily. Room service was always available. We had no complaints about any of the food offerings. Quantity, quality and presentation were outstanding! Especially the non-stop stop king crab legs offered nightly. They were a hit! Bar service was excellent. The bar tenders/servers were all very friendly and interesting to talk to. We purchased the Silver Spirits beverage package and enjoyed top shelf liquors and a great selection of wines. We did not use the swimming pools, spa or fitness centre however we did tour the spa. It's equipped with a snow room! The sports deck had mini-golf. A good selection of excursions were offered at each port of call; some included in the cruise and some not included. We did daily excursions at each port and stayed on land as long as we could exploring. All our tour guides were friendly, knowledgeable and some with a good sense of humor. The only excursion we were disappointed in was the visit to the village of Grimaud, France. With the time we had available, we saw mostly big yachts and villas. Time could have been better spent in St. Tropez. Viking is extremely organized in everything they do. Especially getting guests efficiently off (and back on) the ship and loaded on to awaiting buses. We were provided bottled water and wished a good day by senior Viking staff when disembarking at each port. When returning to the ship after each excursion we had to go through a security check (which is done efficiently). Cold clothes were handed out arriving back on board the ship. On our final day in Livorno port before heading to our final disembarkation destination, Civitavecchia (Rome), we were greeted back at the ship after touring all day with a red carpet, cold champagne and all the ship staff welcoming us back. They were all lined up dancing to the music was playing outside. Another nice touch! Entertainment on the ship was fine for us. After full days of touring in the heat, night life wasn't that important to us. If you're expecting to party at the all-night disco, or play the slots, this is likely not the cruise for you. No disco or casino. Entertainment was offered most nights by the Viking Singers in the Star Theatre as well as guest entertainers. The Viking Band played in the Torshavn Lounge for those that wanted to dance. There were movie nights and dancing under the stars pool side on select nights. The resident pianist, guitarist and classical duo performed nightly in the Atrium. We watched one 3D movie in the Explorers' Dome. It was visually amazing! There are only 26 seats available and you need to reserve at guest services. It does not cost anything. An added perk on the ship was the self-serve laundry/ironing facilities on each level. Viking may seem a bit on the pricey side but they are definitely worth the money. We would recommend Viking to anyone and will be looking at future travels with Viking again. Staff, service, dining, excursions, and overall experience on this cruise ... all first class! Read Less

We went from Budapest to Amsterdam on the Viking MAGNI two years ago, and loved every bit of that trip, so we knew of Viking's attention to detail and commitment to excellence from firsthand experience. In 2018 we originally intended to take the St. Petersburg-to-Moscow river cruise, but found it was during the time of the World Cup. For that and a number of other reasons, we (three couples who travel together) elected to see what other cruises Viking could offer us, even though our plans were completely changed fairly close to the departure date. Viking could not have been more helpful, and credited us with every penny we had already tendered them. We got three adjacent cabins with shared verandas on the maiden voyage of Viking ORION, with no penalties and, indeed, on most favorable terms. Viking service deserves its legendary reputation: every detail is smoothly, cheerfully and professionally attended to, from airport transfers to boarding to cuisine, entertainment, physical facilities, educational programs, and on-shore tours. The ships (in our case, the longship MAGNI and the ocean cruiser ORION) are engineered and planned down to the tiniest detail - doors and drawers (and toilet lids!) that don't slam, but slide gently shut; warmed floors and mirrors in the bathroom; perfectly arrayed tables in the dining areas so that efficiency and aesthetics are both well-served; cuisine that is fresh, imaginative and related to local products and produce; real honest-to-goodness libraries sprinkled throughout the ship with worthwhile and educational volumes on every conceivable subject. But the most treasured part of the Viking experience, for me at least, was the basic company-wide policy regarding quality of life on board: no children under 18; no casinos; no art auctions or other en masse blandishments, and essentially no smoking (one tiny spot on a mid-ships open weather deck was set aside for those poor souls). The heart of the Viking experience is really not even on board the ship; I think the company wants its passengers to travel primarily as a means to the end of learning more about the world and its fascinating places and people. Every stop on either the river or the ocean cruises will provide ample opportunities for a wide variety of tours and excursions, including some at no extra charge at every stop. For example: Having been to Rome a number of times in the past, that day we elected instead to visit Tarquinia, the Etruscan necropolis and museum. The day was one of the most memorable in my life - and I've lived a long, long time. The tour guide gave a three-hour nonstop monologue that integrated geology and geography, military history, theology, architecture, graphic art, archeology and politics, and imparted to us a priceless understanding of Etruria and its people, their (literally) central role in Mediterranean history before the Roman Empire, and the uniquely peaceful amalgam of cultures that their open society encouraged and created. Viking cruises are meant to be enjoyed by thoughtful adults who want to visit other lands and other peoples in order to learn about them. The comforts of their ships and the delights of the on-board experience are magnificent, but always in service to getting ashore and experiencing other lands. Read Less

We fell in love with this itinerary, with the boat and with this crew. My husband and I are in our mid 40s, and have started to enjoy more luxurious cruise lines. We compare this experience to a Crystal cruise we took approximately 1 1/2 years ago. What we liked about our Viking experience is that there definitely seemed to be a wider mix of ages on the ship. We enjoyed visiting and meeting with peers closer to our own age as well as older couples travelling. Now onto the Viking Orion itself - by far the nicest cruise ship we have been on. It certainly helps that the ship is new - everything is modern and clean. Embarkation and debarkation were a synch - no waiting and no lines. CABIN: We stayed on the 5th floor - situated perfectly in the middle of the ship so you can easily reach 7th and 2nd floors for dining. We had a penthouse veranda room - PLENTY of storage, shower pressure was impressive. My only gripe is that the mattress was a tad hard for my taste. Use of self-service laundry was easy and convenient - located on every floor. DINING: Specialty restaurants on board are a MUST. Food in the world cafe was mostly great, similar experience in the main dining room. One tip we were glad once we figured out is that you can actually view the menus for each restaurant (which change daily) on your stateroom TV or on the Viking app. This can help you decide which restaurant you want to go to for a given meal! We did not do the silver spirits package and believe that it was better to mostly drink wines that came with dinner but occasionally purchased a bottle of wine and found prices to be extremely reasonable. FITNESS CENTER/SPA: Please do NOT miss the spa! It is simply outstanding. I was also impressed that you can use the facilities (hydrapool, steam room, jacuzzi) without a spa appointment. These facilities are open to you anytime. ENTERTAINMENT AND ACTIVITIES: This is one area where we think Viking can improve. They had minimal entertainment in the evening, although sometimes they brought in local cultural talent which was wonderful to see. We wishes for the shows to be longer and for there to be more on board entertainment in general. They do have interactive game tables (computerized game board) you can play a variety of games on which was unique and cool. SERVICE: Outstanding and impeccable PORTS and EXCURSIONS: We enjoyed included tours included for Pisa, St Tropez, and Barcelona. We did mostly half day tours through Viking which allowed us time to explore the city on our own for the second half of the day since there was ample time at each port. We will be signing up for another Viking cruise. Despite the few negatives I noted, we would still rate this cruise as excellent. Read Less

My husband and I were interested in seeing the French Riviera, Spain, and Italy. We signed up for pre-cruise and post-cruise extensions and the whole experience was absolutely lovely. The pre-cruise hotel in Madrid, The Intercontinental Hotel Madrid, was absolutely beautiful. Viking had excursions planned and you also had time to do your own thing. When it was time to get to the ship, Viking had a representative help all the travelers get on the train from Madrid to Barcelona which was most helpful because with the Viking rep, Charles, there was never any confusion about where we were supposed to be at any time. The young man had it under control at all times. The actual cruise ship was beautiful, clean, fun, delicious, entertaining, and comfortable. The people that work for Viking are all English speaking and really good at what they do. Our cabin attendant, Delia, was absolutely the most efficent helpful young lady I have ever seen. She had a young man that worked with her that was as equally excellent. I think his name was Bom-Bom or something like that -- excuse my ignorance. The restaurants were really good in that you could make healthy choices and also have not so healthy choices for food if that's what you want. I was really glad that Viking didn't run their cruise like a food fest. The last cruise I took 30 years ago had a midnight buffet and really heavy meals. I felt bloated when I got home. Not with Viking. They have really healthy food and a gym as well. The shore excursions were all very fun and interesting. It was very warm during the time we were there, but I would not change a thing. The post-cruise extension in Rome was also done very well. Our hotel was lovely and Viking had a representative at the hotel 12 hours a day while we were there. When it was time to get to the airport, Viking had a transport van ready for us, took us to the airport, and when we got to the airport Viking representatives were there to help us get our luggage to the checkin counter for our airline. Viking really takes care of their passengers and I will never take any other cruise line for sure. We also left some of our things we purchased in the room and Viking sent them to us in the mail. Wow. I tell everyone about my experiences on Viking because they need to know how comprehensive their service is. Viking cruises make for a true vacation. Read Less

I booked the cruise as to celebrate my son’s graduation. I wanted to spend quality time with him before he left for college and we had the time of our lives. The ship felt brand new. The room was splendid with wonderful linens on the beds, plenty of room to relax and an amazing bathroom. Our room attendants were very accommodating and a pleasure when we saw them. All of the staff we encountered were extremely professional. We enjoyed all of our excursions, some included and others we selected based on preference. My son’s favorites were Monte Carlo, Lucca and Vinci. I also enjoyed visiting the gallery in St. Tropez. It was incredibly hot and crowded in Florence and I needed to return to the ship a little earlier than the end of the tour which was accomodated. We treated ourselves to massages and spent half a day in the spa including the snow room! Food was generally delicious, enjoyed the specialty dining except the Chef’s Table but it may have been the menu for that day. Truly felt pampered the entire trip. The extension in Rome was a perfect and seamless continuation of our amazing trip. Read Less

Our daughter always wanted to go to Italy. We were scheduled to go in December 2017 but the cruise was oversold or something so they rescheduled us and gave us better rooms in the process. Turned out July was a wonderful time to be in the Mediterranean. It was just beautiful. The ship had only been on a couple of cruises since being launched so it seemed brand new. We had been on the Star and loved it but this ship was even better. The technology especially has improved. Our favorite port was St. Tropez and our favorite excursion was there to Port Grimaud. The rose wine in that region was delicious. Dining was varied and easy with whatever type of venue you might want. Our favorite place for a snack or dessert or just lounging is Mamsen's. We had to tender to a couple of the ports and that process went as smoothly as possible. Everything about Viking is professional! Read Less

Excellent cruise. My only problem was the switch in the number of days in Barcelona. We were expecting two days in Barcelona. That was one of the reasons we booked the cruise, to see Barcelona. Then as soon as we paid for the cruise, we were informed that the itinerary has been changed and we would only have one day in Barcelona. No explanation or adjustment from Viking. A little disappointing. I expected better service and communication from Viking on this important itinerary change. We were forced to book additional days at our expense, as a result of the change. The ship was beautiful! The staff was very helpful and friendly. The food was excellent. Lots of items to choose from for meals. Lots of places to eat. Guests need to explore the other locations for meals wile on board besides the dining rooms. Many things things to do on the ship and many excursions off the ship. Read Less

While many in our group had visited most of the ports previously, we all wanted to visit the scheduled ports. We greatly enjoyed out pre-cruise in Madrid. The change of itinerary, costing us a night in Barcelona, was disappointing, though Sète was lovely. The other ports were fantastic and the excursions, both included and optional, were well run and educational. We were a bit disappointed in the wine tasting at Valmagne Abbey (extremely limited amounts of wine to taste and quite discourteous servers), but the tour guides were all excellent and the locations provided great adventures and experiences for all of us. Toilets on all tour buses, regardless of length of tour, would be an improvement. One of the best things about the cruise was having an astronomer in residence; his expertise during star and planet gazing and when the international Space Station passed over the Orion was an amazing experience! We utilized and loved the included areas of the spa, including the cold room. The food and included wine was great and meals were leisurely, well served affairs. Both the spa and meal service are areas where Viking's luxury treatment of guests shines. The on board entertainment was good to adequate and provides Viking with an area in which to improve. We are looking forward to our next cruise with Viking. Our only real complaint stemmed from the flight arrangements going home. Viking needs to find a much better way to do flight arrangements, one that gives Viking far more control and the ability to provide much better customer service for dealing with problems and issues. We chose Viking for our first cruise ever due to hearing very good things about the service, ship, food and excursions. We were not disappointed! Our friends who cruise tell us that we will NOT enjoy cruising with any other cruise line. We found the food very good, enjoyed room service breakfast to allow us a little extra time to get ready for our excursions. We enjoyed that the ship did not feel crowded, we could always get a pool chair, dinner table, anytime we pleased. The service was impeccable. Our transfers were seamless as well. We look forward to cruising again with Viking! We upgraded our liquor package and thought that this was a bargain! The Destination Meals and wine in the Restaurant were awesome. We met a lot of nice folks on the cruise. Our tour guides were very well versed and gave us a much better experience than if we had gone to the French Riviera alone. Our only regret was that we did not have enough time to extend our trip in Rome! Read Less
