The Good: Room Steward did a great job. New ship. Clean and bright. Theatre: Dance group was very good, as well as the magician. America's Test Kitchen. Veteran get together. Nice Shower. The Average: New musical theme. Music piped in everywhere. Not a quiet public place on the ship as they don't have a dedicated library. If you like noise=great. No chairs on the promenade. The promenade is narrower, so it's walkable but no sitting area. Food: Nice presentation, but more of an Asian bent. If you're expecting a big steak or lobster you will be disappointed. Needs improving: Embarkation: SLOOOOOW. The excuse was the computers were slow. I booked a suite and there was no priority as promised. Disembarkation: The WORST. Ship arrival was late. People all standing around the single exit point. People cutting in line in front of the expedited group. Cruise director did nothing about it. CHAOS. Wine prices. Come on, 17 dollars a glass for Chateau St Michelle Cabernet? Daily Activities: Not a lot of organized activities. Comedian: How long can we make jokes about farts before it gets old. Private Island: 2 ships in at the same time. Crowded. Overall: I enjoyed the cruise, but it both started and ended on a sour note. Read Less

We are quite loyal to HAL (4-Star Mariners) and wanted to go on their newest ship. We also liked this particular itinerary. Our back aft suite was wonderful. I gave dining five stars ... but we only eat in the Pinnacle (and once in Tamarind) so can't say much about the dining room. The Pinnacle has added new items to their menu which were wonderful. Finally, they changed up their desserts! Yea! We just like eating in the specialty restaurants and not the dining room. Being 4-star Mariners we get it for half price. The new Pinnacle had its tables layed out oddly ... miss the nice window booths on the prior class ship. What I didn't like: this new ship (and the Konningsdam) does not offer breakfast in the Pinnacle for suite guests! They have changed it to "Club Orange" which originally was going to be Culinary Arts Center dining venue but tanked on other ships. So CO is a more casual, cafe-type restaurant. Also, anyone can use Club Orange if they want to pay $50 per day per person which also entitles them to expedited boarding/disembarkation. Don't like this. Suites guests pay a huge price and this Club Orange thing isn't right. Another weird thing: They have new scanners for luggage and my hot curlers were pulled as dangerous! Really??? The Indonesian guy kept calling them "hot plates." I don't think he knew what they were! I've been on 21 HAL cruise and never have my curlers caused a problem. They do not get very hot -- not even close to a curling iron's heat. What's next? No curling irons or flat irons or hair dryers??? Steamers were taken away, too. And, or course, clothes irons. I did get mine back on day 2 thanks to my suite concierge who explained what they were. MAJOR HASSLE! The music venues were very nice but wish the violinists had better times. We always missed them due to our dinner hour. Loved the Gelatto! Many people complained they had to pay $1 or $2 ... but we didn't mind. It was wonderful and no line because people were too cheap -- lol. Half Moon Cay (always beautiful!) was way too crowded as the Konningsdam was also there. Too many people!!! And - to get the tender back to the ship we had to wait in huge lines in the hot sun. It took at least an hour to get our tender in a long line that looked more like Disneyland. HAL does have a lot of seniors but we don't mind. Would rather have them than hundreds of kids running around. All in all, wonderful time. Ship is gorgeous! Would love to go again. Read Less

We booked this cruise because the price was awesome and the ship was new - in hindsight, a brand new ship with crazy-low prices should have set off warning flags. First the good - the ship was NEW! We had an aft-facing balcony - room was very nice, room attendants were friendly and great. Sea Days around the pool were not stressful - complete opposite of Oasis, or any other ship we've been on. No militant record keeping on towels, food on the Lido deck was not bad, Tamarind ($25) was excellent. Not good or bad - the average age of passengers skewed toward over 65. I believe there were 200 or less, kids on the crew - I'd prefer a younger crowd - maybe that would have given us more activity options? The bad - Dining Room - everything about this was bad. Food was mundane, service was horrible - they have, what seemed to be, thousands of servers running around like bees in a hive, but for a normal sitdown dinner, it was a 1.5-2 hour process. We ate in the dining room the first night and one formal night, then avoided it at all costs. Embarkation - this was horrible. They checked you in, then they gave you a boarding group card with a number on it. Our number was 26, when we sat down, they were on number 6. So after having checked in, we sat in the terminal and waited for about 45 minutes. Half Moon Cay- we were one of two ships hosted that day- and it was obvious that they were not prepared for more than one. Full disclosure - we had a villa with a butler and were able to avoid the food lines - but we went to look and it was nuts. At least 100 people in line, and it looked like something out of a prison camp. To get back on the ship, we left at 130 (final tender was supposed to leave at 230) - from the time we left our villa to the time we got back to the ship was 1.5 hours! During this time, we stood in a line that envied a Disney Park line, with zero information from the crew, no offers of water or anything else - just a freaking nightmare. No mention of it that evening from the Captain or Cruise Director. Cruise Director - the running joke was whether he was even on the ship! We saw him one time over the 8 days we were on the ship. He came on with messages that seemed to be pre-recorded - and offered virtually zero information. On the last day, we signed up for early walk-off Disembarkation - since we had an early flight. We sat in our room until 715 with absolutely no information from any of the crew - went down to the second floor at 730 and found 90% of the passengers in line to get off the boat as well. It was a huge mess. At 745 the Cruise Director finally came on and said that they would begin Disembarkation soon and in the meantime do not congregate near the exit - we all laughed, because there were over 1,000 people listening to that directive congregated near the exit. It was fun to be on a new ship - but there are too many better choices for us to ever sail on this line again. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it worked out as a back to back cruise after we got off the Regal Princess at the same port. Also, we were on the Koningsdam (sister ship) last year and we liked the ports it was going to. As always, the food was excellent in taste, quality and variety we experienced before on Holland America. The ship was extremely clean in the well appointed cabin as well as all the common areas. Staff, crew and officers were so very friendly, courteous and helpful. The entertainment in BB King's lounge and the Rolling Stones lounge were very good but so disappointed in the piano lounge duo who sang off key and their voices did not compliment each other. We saw such a better duo on the Koningsdam last year. We enjoyed the entertainment in the main theatre but it would have been so much better if there had been more use of the theatre throughout the week. The movies under the stars and in the staterooms were recent and a good variety but there really wasn't a lot doing after 10:45 pm unless you went to the Casino, which we did not. We were disappointed in the embarkation procedure in the terminal waiting room, which appeared to be quite chaotic with older staff not knowing what to do and not agreeing with other staff. Even though Holland America has a very good product, we have decided that we will probably not be sailing with them again as we found the cruise to be too boring for us. Read Less

We are a 30-40 year old couple celebrating his birthday. I love music and food. He loves computers and movies. This boat (ship) featured cooking classes, Microsoft computer application classes, a live rock band, a live blues band, a string quartet, and a dance troupe. It was a perfect fit for us. We experienced an interior cabin. Our voyage visited the western caribbean: Jamaica, Grad Cayman, Cancun, etc. It rained at the private island. We selected the anytime dining. We did not make reservations. We simply showed up at our desired time and checked in with the hostess who then had a staffer take us to a table. 10 minutes was the longest wait we experienced. We generally dine early. The pacing of the meals varied each night. After one delayed dining experience, we simply warned the future servers of our plans or asked if we would be able to make it to the 7 pm show and then we had no problems getting in and out of the dining room. The food was of high quality. Being new to the Paleo / Lectin-free diet I was concerned about my dining options. Luckily the buffet salad bar has a variety of toppings and proteins. I thoroughly enjoyed my daily salads made from a variety of my selected greens. Most of the buffet stations were staffed by servers and limited contamination by guests. I loved the daily pavlovas. The ice cream station was popular with guests. We fell in love with the daily tea parties that were offered for no additional fee. I wish a variety of teas were available. Some guests desired coffee. I enjoyed the variety of scones and toppings and sandwiches and dessert. High tea was offered twice on our 7 day cruise. That was where a variety of desserts and sandwiches were placed on our table and not served by rotating servers offering their items. Embarkation was a breeze. I have never checked in so fast. This was our first time traveling with this cruise line so we did not have any special status. We just got in line showed our passports, took out ship ID card photos and waited for our boarding groups. The process was much smoother than on other cruise lines I have sailed with multiple times. The pool area closed early at about 9 or 10 each day. Movies were shown in the pool area nightly. The nighttime food bar featured a variety of food items such as pizzas, salads, popcorn, and wings. The library was a nice area to lounge in. Books were available as well as games and puzzles. The full pane windows made the library a prime area for ocean or port viewing. The art gallery showcase a variety of photography. Nightly entertainment in the theater included a dance troupe, a comedian, and an illusionist. The ship also offered wine tasting classes and enrichment sessions about many of the ports and sailing. We took the galley tour of the kitchen for no additional cost. We did not take the chance to try any of the specialty dining. The majority of cruises were of the retirement age. Some families cruised due to the spring break timing, but there were not many kids aboard during my voyage. The ship seemed to cater to a senior crowd, which is great for relaxation. Read Less

We love the Caribbean destinations and have had good experiences with HAL. The ship is beautiful with art and flowers everywhere. It sails smoothly and with great comfort. Our Vista Suite was a great choice and only slightly more money than a Veranda Cabin. Embarkation was fast and courteous. From the start we knew that the food was the best we ever got on a cruise ship. The crew was friendly and efficient. The entertainment was mostly good with a new theater in the round main showroom and super dancers. The comedian act was unfortunate but that can be fixed. Music everywhere with something for everyone. An Adults Only pool along with a main pool with a glass roof in case it rains. Nice lectures and Country Kitchen events. The usual Shore Excursions and ports of call. We didn't much care for Ocho Rios but no big deal because we're not much for shore excursions. Many dining options but food in the Main Dining Room was so good we didn't go to extra charge offerings. Easy disembark wheeling our own luggage. If you miss the Skeet Shooting or the Baked Alaska waiters marching around the dining room this ship is not going to provide that. Good value and worth going. Passengers tend to be more Seniors. I'm a Seniors and I believe everyone wants to be one. Read Less

INSTALL DOORS THAT CLOSE WITHOUT SHOCKING HALF THE BOAT!!!! can't even opine on the rest of the cruise it's probable fine. i've developed a horrible fear of returning to room. i own the best earplugs and the vibrations penetrate them. for a new ship the fare was surprisingly low, you get what you pay for i guess. need to upgrade my cruises i suppose, the guests are surprisingly blue collar and a little rough. one guest exploded and threatened a passenger for touching his stuff by the pool. pretty rough trade. good portion of the guests are here to exploit the unlimited food and the location of the gym is not known to these folks. nuff said Read Less

This is HAL's newest ship in the fleet for the Pinnacle Class series of ships. The performances in the panoramic World Stage Theater were amazing, You had to get to the theater at least 30 minutes before showtime or you couldn't find a preferable seat for 2 or more guests. The dance production team One Step was so professional. Also a BBC Earth show called Blue Planet was just like being underwater in a submarine watching all around you fish swimming and enjoying their underwater adventures, The Music Walk of Stones Rock Room, Billboard (double pianos) and of course B.B. King's Blues Club. A wonderful experience for all ages. Something for everyone. The dining rooms were very modern with very adequate lighting and decor. The service staff in the dining rooms were always happy and couldn't do enough to try to make you happy and very satisfied. The food was very good also with many choices and you could always ask the wait staff for any advise on your choices. In the Lido Buffet, we enjoyed the morning pastry of sticky buns. The day always had to start off with a sticky bun and coffee, then breakfast. Read Less

We normally sail with Royal Caribbean but this cruise opportunity came up at a thousand dollars less expensive for a similar itinerary so we gave HA a try. We were not disappointed. Nieuw Statendam is a brand new vessel which carries around 2700 passengers. There are not a lot of superfluous amenities (from a 60+ perspective) so mostly 50+ passengers. Our ocean view cabin was small but laid out such that nothing was in your way getting around. The bathroom/shower were surprisingly large with a glass walled shower with nice amenities (shampoo, conditioner and body wash). Our cabin was between midships and the bow and was very quiet with quick access to the theater and also to the fabulous Music Walk which included a Rock bar, a Blues bar and a double piano bar which alternated sets throughout the evening. The music was varied and outstanding. There were classical music show in the afternoons as well. The stage shows were new as the ship does not have a traditional stage with an orchestra pit. Only massive screens that surround the whole venue. The first dance show was cutting edge featuring six dancers with no singing in an elaborate presentation showcasing the dancers' talents as well as the advanced technology of the theater. It drew standing ovations from the attendees. The second show was less spectacular but enjoyable. An illusionist wowed the audience with his skills in another show and a comedian also performed. Food was excellent at the general Lido buffet with numerous choices for all tastes. Some food kiosks prepared fresh hot food (Thai wok, omelets, pizza, hot dogs, deli sandwiches) for those willing to wait a bit. We dined only once in the main dining room and it was excellent. We did not try the specialty restaurants. Shore excursions were well organized with departures from the ship well supervised by the crew/cruise director such that we always knew where to go and what to do for our excursion. First visit was to the private beach leased by HA, Half Moon Cay, Bahamas. A lovely spot with lots of beach chairs available. A complimentary buffet was offered to the passengers at the beach. In Jamaica (Ocho Rios) we did river tubing which was excellent! In George Town, Grand Cayman, we did a short trolley tour and then went to Seven Mile Beach using the local bus service which was reliable and inexpensive ($5 per person return). Lunch at a beachfront café was about $75 US but great view and WiFi. Last stop was Cozumel. Just a beer and some shopping there. Transfer from Port Everglades to FLL was well organized by HA and stress free. We will definitely seek other occasions to sail on Nieuw Statendam again. Embarkation in Fort Lauderdale can be harrowing given the traffic at cruise departure times especially if you're trying to return a rental car. Make sure you fill up well outside of downtown as getting to a gas station in the rush hour traffic could take an hour there and back. Because Nieuw Statendam has a casino which allows smoking, the smell of smoke can permeate other public areas such as the Music Walk. Why the casino wasn't hermetically sealed and separately vented on this brand new ship is beyond me. Read Less

We've generally had good cruising experiences on HAL. Our first cruise with the line was more than 10 years ago on the Eurodam, which we sailed on again more recently after its refurbishment. We've sailed the Koningsdam, Westerdam and others as well. Overall, each provided us a solid, enjoyable experience that kept us wanting to stay with Holland. This cruise experiences on the Nieuw Statendam was different... some good, some not so good. THE GOOD: As expected, the ship was beautiful. It's new, so - as expected - public areas and the cabins were clean, fresh and sparkling. HAL's newly expanded music theme was evident in its interesting hallway art and with its new Rolling Stones venue. BB King Blues band rocked the house. Good, energetic vibes. The overall demographic was much different too. Not sure if it's because it was Spring Break, or because of expanded music entertainment choices, but there was a different (and, IMO, better) "population" mix on this cruise. The passengers on most previous HAL's we've been on seemed quite old/elderly. No so at all on this cruise. THE BAD: Service on the Lido Deck has slipped noticeably. We often had to track down staff to get: tables cleared, silverware, coffee, water, etc. Not good. The food on Lido seemed to decline in quality too. Glad I like Asian/Indonesian food because that became my "go-to" choice pretty much every day. Desserts looked pretty, but weren't all that tasty (except in the Dutch Cafe - mmmm). Another oddity: the ship was full, yet invariably food in Lido was only available on one side. The other side was closed completely. Led to long lines on occasion. Also, it seemed odd to us that a Lido would close entirely after lunch until dinner. I believe HAL used to offer at least fruit and small sandwiches for those wanting a mid afternoon snack. No longer! Cocktails in the BB King Blues Club were a joke. We ordered a drink ONCE because the quantity of liquid in our drinks barely coated the bottom.of the glasses. We had a cabin with a balcony. It was nice, though it sermed smaller than the same class of cabins we've had before on Holland. We had to walk through the Casino to get to various places on the ship and the smell of cigarettes was nasty. I thought that Holland was a non-smoking line. Wrong. Read Less

We loved the music venues at night! We loved the ship! It was beautiful, our balcony room was amazing on the 11th floor. The showers with glass doors are revolutionary..mostly we loved the lido market! We NEVER usually eat in the buffet on cruises but we ate there very often ! We actually enjoyed the food choices there more than the dining room..... which means I think they need to work on the menu in the dining room. The boat was very quite ... everything started early and ended pretty early. We would’ve liked a little bit more excitement on the boat but they cater to an older clientele. I have to say it was the most well run for getting on and off the boat ! Absolutely no lineups at any of our ports ... in hindsight we wondered if the majority of the cruisers didn’t get off the boat. Read Less

This was my first cruise back on Holland America after many years of going on Princess. I wanted to try out the lovely brand new Nieuw Statendam on a pretty affordable itinerary. Embarkation: We arrived about 10:30 to the port. Very easy, no lines, started boarding at 11:30. Rooms were ready pretty quickly I remember hearing but we were out and about exploring. Luggage arrived by 2:00. Muster is nice now without having to bring your life jacket. Cabin: We had initially booked an inside guarantee for the affordability factor. Knowing there were so many great places to be out and about, it was about saving money on this one. Two days before boarding we were upgraded to a VQ spa balcony! What an absolute pleasure this was! The room was so lovely in decor. Tons of storage and a really big shower with excellent water pressure and hot water. The balcony was really nice sized. There is some noise from the rooms next door if you are a quiet sleeper. We were a hop skip and a jump from the lido and a few steps above the spa. win/win! Our room stewards were an absolute delight. Food: We ate in the Lido most breakfasts and lunches. The food was always good. There is a made to order pasta bar that was a real treat. Service was always prompt and friendly at the table with drinks. We went to Tamarind one night which was outstanding. The food, ambiance and service all top notch. Canaletto was also a really nice, affordable treat on our last evening. We had one Pinnacle Grill dinner and the service was horrible. Food was good, but the service really soured the memory. We went to the Dive In for a burger one day and I didn't really care for it but it seemed very popular to others. Grand Dutch Cafe had excellent coffee and snacks and a really pretty place to sit. We only ate in the main dining room during the Mariner's Lunch and I will say it was the best meal we had all week! If you have an invite to this lovely event do not miss it. Spa: We booked the week long pass and took advantage of the saunas and hydro pool. The hydro pool was really nice but when people use the jets in the middle it can spray you in the face. kind of an odd set up. But still fabulous I would book it again in a heart beat. There's a nice horizontal shower, a great dry sauna. The thermal beds are right in front of/kind of same room as showers so that can distract from the quiet. But again, it wasn't enough to not like it. Had a fabulous mani pedi and my friend had a few massages. Everything was excellent. Do watch your bill though. The pricing specials can get a little confusing and there was some misunderstanding going on with exact pricing. Entertainment: All of the music that goes on in Lincoln Stage and BB Kings was excellent. We didn't get a chance to see any of the shows otherwise. The movies at night that were shown by the pool had excellent sound and clarity, and you could get all kinds of good treats while you watched. Highlights: The Explorations Cafe is really nice place for a drink or a coffee with little pastries, and there's also delicious free fruit smoothies. It's just a nice inviting space. The Behind the Scenes ship tour is now being offered on this ship. It isn't exactly cheap but it gives you a really great look at the Bridge, engineering, the galley, the theater and a few other fun stops. It ended with a drink and great conversation with the Cruise Director and a gift bag. This happens on the final sea day. Overall impression of the ship: It's gorgeous top to bottom. The layout is a little bit disjointed as things on port are not the same on starboard which can get you a little bit lost. But the ship isn't huge so it doesn't take a long time to figure things out. I will say what stands out the most is customer service. Top to bottom, all the way up to the Captain, it was the best service I've ever experienced in all my years of cruising. Read Less

Profit hungry Head Office advertised this as a 14 day cruise (it's still shown that way in March 2020) as well as a 7 day east/7 day west. As mature, well traveled cruisers, we expected HAL to attract similar guests. Not at March Break! With their "kids sale free" promotion. Our "neighbours" let their kids run circle through both their cabins, slamming both hall & balcony doors for 7 days, ignoring a written request from Guest Services to stop. Many adults belonged on the "party ship" cruise line, for 7 days, wondering where the Karaoke Bar or the Comedy Club were. We saw a couple more than once at the Lido Buffet in bathrobes, she was wearing a shower cap!! It was impossible to get near the mid ship pool for kids and the aft pool although adults only, permitted smoking,yuck. We were disgusted that they Casino allowed smoking most days, of course the smell lingered on non smoking days. The captain & his entire crew were professional, humorous & friendly, none of our complaints reflect on them. The food & our waiters in the MDR were excellent (breakfast & dinner). Lunch in the Lido was good. The Rolling Stone Rock Room band was great, The BB King band & especially the lead singer, were amazing. We enjoyed them every night. Enjoyed the EXC lectures too. Beware of the even # cabin corridor on deck 4 mid ship, the floor beneath the carpet has humps & dips, a definite tripping hazard. For the 4 of us in the future? It will be a long time before we sail HAL again, never in March & only for a true 14 day. Read Less

The ship is beautiful, very easy to get around and the cabins are light bright, well appointed with enough closet and drawer space. For news hounds MSNBC and FOX news are shown as well as BBC news. Also, a lot of "free ", latest movies, are offered on TV and poolside in the evenings. Bathroom shower is enclosed and quite large. Beware, it has slate floors which can be slippery ... bring a rubber bath mat or throw down a towel when you shower to avoid falls. At the end of this review I will include a short summary of Celebrity Edge which we went on directly after this cruise.Both ships were anchored right next to each other and we walked off one, right onto the other. All food venues ( and there are many) are located mid to back of the ship and all entertainment venues from mid-ship, forward. Either way you are in for a lot of walking. The main dining rooms are on decks 2 and 3. Except for breakfast, and the second dress-up night when they served 5 oz lobster tails/filet, we were disappointed with the menu selections in the main dining room, although the food was well prepared. Better fare is at Deck 9 Lido for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Large variety of foods, prime rib and other roasted meats daily, terrific breads and baked goods, fairly good desserts, ice cream/cones. What is special on this ship is  the smaller dining venues which do not charge for food: Dive-In burgers, dogs, made to order burgers/great coated fries (Deck 9 just outside the Lido); NY Deli/PIzza Deck 10, just above the Lido pool. Great custom made personnel pizzas and very nice grilled sandwiches. Do not miss the Dutch Cafe deck 3 mid, with a wonderful personal 6" quiche/mescaline salad, pea soup, terrific apple pie, enormous "round" eclairs,  and many other free items that they serve until 8:30 pm. They charge for coffee and other drinks. The second week we bought a five pack of restaurants for $95. It includes Pinnacle Grill , Tamarind, Canaletto which have open menus and Rudi's Sel De Mer and Nami Sushi which are ala carte and are limited to $30 and $15 pp credit. We had a lot of trouble in the last two restaurants as they do something that is not logical .... they charge your account  for the whole meal ( not just over and above thementioned credit limit limit) and tell you they will give you a credit back. THEY DO NOT. I had to fight with customer service to get the credit applied and ended up requesting a meeting with the hotel director because it was not happening. I read about this from other cruise critic writers and sure enough it was true. That said, the specialty restaurants are quite good, especially Pinnacle ( don't miss the broiled Alaskan King Crab [ a full pound], or the 18 oz Rib eye or 23 oz Porterhouse. Unfortunately our sever Rimco gave us terrible service at Pinnacle. Tamarind was the least of the restaurants, with so-so oriental ... food. Canaletto was surprisingly good, great service from Astrid. Rudi's 12 oz lobster tail ( @ $32) is pretty good. At Nami, since we are not sushi lovers we had a great Miso soup and a wonderful tenderloin entree with fried rice, great sauteed mushrooms. It was superb. Overall, given all the venues and surprise foods at many ( bavarian pretzels, carmel pretzels, popcorn) for the movies below in the evenings at NY Deli/Pizza) you will not be disappointed. There are just not enough major shows on this ship.There are only two major shows: Humanity and Step Dance Show. Humanity was superb - dancing, costumes, terrific graphics that encircle the whole stage. It was so good we saw it twice. The other show was just not as good. The only other shows are a magician - Kid Ace very good and a Comedian. First week Rodney Johnson was very, very funny. Not so the second week. But there is a saving grace. The alternative entertainment are 4 music venues on deck 2, all near each other. BB Kings ... blues and soul which HA has on every ship  is always excellent. A Rock n' Roll venue, Billboard 100 hits and Lincoln Center classical combo ... also very good. The latter does classical concerts in the afternoons, which were lovely.. As is the case with many ships the pools, Lido (mid) and Sea View, (rear) on deck 9 are too small. Kids take over the Lido pool and it is almost impossible to swim. No supervision by HA at all, especially when parents are remiss in letting their kids splash everyone. Seaview pool out in the open in the back of the ship is always breezy ( under the canopy ) and has NO KIDS. Just big crowds. HA has relatively good computer connectivity, a very diligent computer manager on duty and  a small, but well appointed computer room with five computers for people like me without smart phone or IPads. It also has free printing. Computer usage for two weeks including email was $160. Not a bad price.  We noticed that HA ships are no longer geriatric as they had been years ago. The age is quite mixed and yes, there were children aboard. Comparison to Celebrity Edge: Edge also came out in December 2018 as did Nieuw Statendam. But the ships are very different in design, feel. We paid more for one week on Edge than we did for two weeks on HA NS. However, Celebrity bundles in a lot of amenities .... for which you end up paying. On Edge we booked one of the new, state of the art "Infinity Balconies", where the glass bi-fold doors can stay open and the balcony is part of your room, giving the feel of a longer, bigger room. The balcony has a panoramic double hung motorized window which goes half-way down. As you look out, you see nothing but the sea. We liked it. We did not dine at any of the specialty restaurants, since they were $55 pp and up which we thought was ridiculous. We ate in the four, included dining rooms which have the same menus, but also have regional specialties: French, Italian, Mediterranean, Cosmopolitan. All were very good with excellent service. The Windows Cafe (buffet) on Edge was a major disappointment for breakfast and lunch. There were only a few shows and comedians .... a deficit for this ship. In fact there is not enough to do in the daytime, given the 3000 passengers. The overall decor/art work  in Nieuw Statendam was much nicer. Edge is very modern, almost industrial looking. It is not a pretty ship. Overall we preferred Nieuw Statendam, hands down, although we were glad we tried Edge. Word of caution about Edge. There are indeed way too many steps, and many of the venues are located a half a floor up or down. What were the designers thinking? Very difficult for Seniors. Even the main pool on deck 14, required everyone to go up 8 steps to reach it. Why??? One thing that was out there on Edge is "Eden ( multi-floor entertainment venue) that has jugglers, "fairies": acrobatics, aerialists and generally many "odd" entertainers walking around in what seems like a "daze". Holland America corrected some of their missteps on the Konigsdam with this new ship, which carries on many HAL traditions while introducing some new ones. They have preserved the superb cabin and dining room service and the generally dignified atmosphere. The balcony level of the pool area is an attractive addition. Tamarind is lovely and has very good food and service. I could get used to the whale-skeleton look of the Main Dining Room decor, but really don't like the yellow walls and chairs. I was surprised that the MDR was not open for lunch on sea days. Club Orange is a mystery to me; that restaurant is an interior space with a long glass wall along the main corridor that makes it look like a fishbowl. The furnishings look low-end rather than luxurious; the chairs don't even have upholstered backs. Why anyone would want to spend $50 a day for the privilege of eating there is beyond me.The Lido Market was OK, but the layout is not nearly as inviting as the buffet on the Celebrity Edge. Seats in the Lido were often hard to find. The Pizza place and deli have been combined on the deck above the Lido. The pizzas were excellent. The waits for hamburgers at Dive In seemed longer than I remember from other ships. I did not try Sel de Mer. I hope the idea of ship restaurants with a la carte prices doesn't catch on. I miss the dedicated theater with popcorn, although even the most recent films were available free on TV in your cabin. (On my recent cruise on the Celebrity Edge, they charged $13 for them.) Lincoln Center Stage is a very welcome addition. It's the prettiest room on the ship. A string quartet plus a pianist played a variety of classical and pop programs. B,B, King's, Rolling Stone Rock Room and Billboard Online all seemed well-attended. The World Stage is a mixed bag. It is totally devoid of decoration except for the upholstered seats (which have no drink holders). The circular thrust stage brings the performers close to the audience. The walls are used for high-tech projections. In the case of the first dance show "Humanity," the projections were quite artistically coordinated with the choreography. It was one of the best shows I have seen on a ship. The other dance show was good, but not as impressive. There was a comedian and an illusionist who, in addition to their own shows, encored on the final night. I was surprised that the World Stage was dark for two nights. The atrium is a disappointment. Unlike other recent ships, it provides no sense of occasion and is useless as a focal point for passengers to gather. The wait for an elevator was often long. I am sorry that the shops are still permitted to clutter the passageways with racks and tables for bargain sales. (The Celebrity Edge eliminated this entirely.) I miss people-watching from a deck chair on the Promenade Deck. That's my biggest complaint about all the new ships. I was disappointed that HAL dropped the Indonesian/Filippino crew show, which I always enjoyed. The cabin was well laid out and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom is a bit small. I was pleasantly surprised that I heard nothing from the cabin on either side. The itinerary wasn't very exciting for experienced cruisers. HAL should really try harder to come up with new excursions for repeat travelers. Transfers from FLL airport to the ship were a mess. I had to wait over an hour for a bus and there were others who had waited even longer. The return transfer was timely. The main negative was that the ship lost power on the next-to-last night and we had to skip Half Moon Cay to assure a timely arrival back at Port Everglades. It was nice of HAL to offer a $50 shipboard credit, but it is still a bit alarming that a brand-new ship would mysteriously lose power. Read Less

A stately beauty everywhere you look with fresh flower arrangements and beautiful artwork. Nightly music with a variety of Beethoven to The Rolling Stones. The cabins are of great design with so much storage and terrific lighting. The subdued tones of the cabins are restful and tasteful. The service is top notch. The serenity pool and quiet area is so restful and enjoyable. The dining room was a delight with excellent service and white table cloths at each meal. Fresh flowers adorned the tables and the wait staff was impressive. The buffet has excellent food stations and the breads were baked fresh each day. There was a carving station, a sandwich station, plus sushi and of course hamburgers by the pool. The best part of each meal was the iced cream with a flavor of the day along with the vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. The dessert bar had elegant fresh fruit tarts each day. My favorite menu was the most extensive breakfast selections that I have ever seen on any ship and I have been on over 40 cruises. Do not hesitate to experience a cruise on the beautiful Holland ship. Read Less

I am HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED in what I describe as a lack of concern in the area of customer care! I would like to review the excursions: Half Moon Cay: We had a blast. This was definitely one of our favorite spots. We chose to do the Jet Ski excursion (I believe it was called the Aqua Trax....). We were somewhat apprehensive since we had never been on a Jet Ski. The guides were incredible. Our daughter was much more apprehensive than even my wife and I; she moved very slowly, but one of the guides stayed with her for the entire hour!!! My wife and I were able to go at our speed, have a great time and not worry about our 19 year old daughter. Ocho Rios: We went on the Dunn Rivers Falls and Dolphin Encounter excursion. This was a blast!!! The Dolphin Encounter was so worth the money. The trainers and life guards were incredible. They made this a very memorable experience. The only thing I would caution against is the PRICE on pictures! We paid $200 for a group of 3 (aprox 197 pictures) that was on a disc. If we had it to do all over again, we WOULD NOT do the pictures...or we would have negotiated price (we heard some people negotiated). Dunn Rivers Falls was INCREDIBLE, however my wife and daughter did not climb the falls; they watched from observation decks. If you have physical limitations DO NOT climb the falls! Georgetown: We went on Land and Sea Excursion. This was very nice. Not the highlight of our cruise, but I would say it was worth it. The getting to see, hold and learn about the sea turtles was neat. My wife enjoyed the Submarine. This was our first cruise with Holland America. We chose to give the cruise line a try under the recommendations of friends who have cruised multiple times. I would say that overall we really enjoyed our trip; however there were a few things that left us with mixed feelings and reviews. The ship was beautiful and very easy to get around in. Our cruise was March 10-17, 2019. We were in a suite, Cabin 6119. Overall, we were satisfied with our cabin steward. He was very friendly and did a fairly good job (not the best...not the worst). We did notice that as the week progressed, it seemed that the quality of the cleanliness diminished. Although our cabin was extremely crowded when we let out the couch sofa for our daughter, the cabin was comfortable at other times. The restroom was great and the shower was excellent. The balcony was very nice and comfortable. A MAJOR concern pertaining to our cabin was that we had $400 go missing!!! This money was in the safe, but we are 99% certain that the money went missing from our cabin!!! We do not want to falsely accuse anyone, but we feel that this matter should be looked into; especially if other guest have reported similar concerns! Dinning: We chose to eat at the Lido Market; overall the food was very good. However, there was some things that disturbed us. We found it almost impossible to get service. We had to ask for drinks, ask for refills and many times never received what we asked for. We felt that the overall cleanliness was sub-par at times. Tables that had been cleaned were still dirty; in fact I took a few pictures of tables we sat down at; one actually had hair on the chair. It seemed that the chairs never were cleaned between guest. We were EXTREMELY troubled by the fact that the servers would take silverware and glass ware from tables that had not been cleaned off and give them to us to use. We watched several guest examine their silverware and glass ware for cleanliness. THIS IS AN AREA THAT NEEDS IMPROVEMENT! Entertainment: We THOROUGHLY enjoyed the ship entertainment. The highlight of our cruise was the performances on the Lincoln Center Stage! We also enjoyed the BB King Blue's Club performances and the the performances on the World Stage. Guest services / Explorations Central: This was another area of concern for us; we felt that the ball was dropped. On the second day of our cruise, we went to Guest Services and expressed our concerns in the area of customer service (i.e. things mentioned already in this review); in the process I inquired about gratuities. I expressed that we did not feel that we were receiving the quality of service worthy of $45 a day in gratuities. After not receiving a satisfactory explanation from the agent at Guest Services, I requested that gratuities be removed from our bill. I explained to the agent that it was not my desire to not pay gratuities, I simply wanted some explanation. On the form that I filled out, I requested that someone contact me concerning the matter; unfortunately, I was never contacted. In an effort to ensure that I did the right thing, I did go back to Guest Services the day of disembarkation and added $350 gratuities to our bill. However, we still have a negative impression in this matter. I will say that we had other encounters with Guest Services and all of those encounters were very positive! Two different times we went to Explorations Central to inquire about shore excursions. Prior to our trip, we had purchased excursions in every port except Cozumel. We were having a hard time deciding about Cozumel. So both times we were inquiring about Cozumel excursions; we WANTED TO PURCHASE a Cozumel excursion! We felt that the agent (young lady with long blond hair) was less than helpful in this area. All that she did during both of our visits to Explorations Central was open a book and say here are the excursions. No recommendations, etc! Needless to say, Cozumel was our biggest disappointment when it came to ports. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the new ship. We like Holland America, but some of their ships are getting old. The ship was beautiful. Not so big which made it easy to navigate We had a balcony stateroom 6090 in the center. Although it was somewhat smaller than on their older ships it was just fine. There seemed to be some younger people on board which was very nice to see. The itinerary was the usual caribbean stops, not really important to us. since we have visited several before. The food was above average, as was the service in the dining room. We enjoyed the new music row, which was Rolling Stones Club and billboard (pianos). BB King Blues was a little too loud for our taste since they put it out in the open, but I'm sure many people enjoyed it. I think the horns made it too loud. Of course Lincoln Center Stage is always lovely (chamber music). The front desk people were all very knowledgeable and helpful. Room service was wonderful. Every morning we had breakfast in our room. They were prompt and very friendly on the phone as well as the person who brought it. NY Deli and Dutch Cafe were both wonderful and not to be missed. (no charge except for special coffees) I have one constructive criticism. They should have a single piano player or guitarist in a bar (Ocean Bar) just to have a quiet place for a drink before or after dinner. The dance shows were very well done. We enjoyed one of the comedians, and the ventriliquist was very good. All in all a wonderful cruise and we booked another on the same ship. Read Less

This review is intended primarily for those who dance and have cruised before, especially on HAL in previous years, in order to provide information we wished we had had prior to our cruise on the Nieuw Statendam in the spring of 2019. We had read a good many other reviews of the ship prior to booking as well as reviews of her sister ship the Konigsdam to try to get a feel for the musical entertainment and dancing opportunities on board. A couple of these expressed disappointment that dance opportunities to which previous HAL cruisers had become accustomed were substantially curtailed. These were quite accurate. In virtually every other respect we were very pleased with the ship, but more of this later. The new Pinnacle class ships center their entertainment on “Music Walk,” the deck-two (and partially three-deck) venue for the BB King Blues Club, the Rolling Stone Rock Room, and Billboard Onboard. Each of these venues have dance floors. BB King shares its two-story venue with Lincoln Center on Stage essentially replacing the Queens Lounges on other vessels. The stage is larger, the dance floor smaller by about 30% and rectangular rather than semi-circular. The floor itself appears to be padded hardwood that is perfect for dancing. Patrons who dance with drinks in their hands often slosh onto the floor, but waiters, when asked will come out and wipe up spills. The need to clean the floor with some frequency leaves it sometimes dry and unwaxed and thus difficult for smooth dancing. The main problem for more serious dancers is that the music in so monotonous (constant fast tempo east coast swing and blues suitable for west coast with only the occasional cha cha or rumba 3-4 times per evening. The genre of music attracts many 60s-free-style dancers (who have every right to the floor), making it very crowded and sometimes frustrating to dance anything other than what they are doing. There are typically three sets per night and one night off for the band per week. Exercise care leaving the dance floor; it is one step up to the exit and it is easy to fall. Billboard on Board is the latest incarnation of the dueling piano bar. The venue is larger than before and quite open to the hallway so as readily to attract passersby. There is a small circular dance floor (approximately 15ft) at one end of the room well away and facing the other direction from the pianists. This floor is rarely used. Dancing here is a challenge because there is no percussion and the tempos often syncopated. Of course, a piano bar is designed for something other than dancing, and it serves this purpose well, but it is possible to dance some of the time, though not much. The Rolling Stone Rock Room is aptly named. A band plays cover several times each night, but the repertoire is limited and somewhat repetitive after a night or two. The dance floor, a rounded off rectangle of about 15 feet or so, is off to the side of the main stage and very near the entrance, which allows dancing without obstructing the view of other patrons—a nice innovation. The venue is directly across the hall from Billboard On Board and also open. These venues did not compete with each other as there were typically performances on only one side of the hall at a time, providing supplemental listening space. The music and singing was from our experience exclusively fast-tempo hard rock as the name implies. We were surprised that the fast pace was so relentless however. We heard not one ballad all week. Dancing will be essentially limited to swing, very fast rumba, and the occasional cha cha and nothing else. The Ocean Bar, which previous passengers will recollect as a venue on other HAL ships at which a combo often played danceable music before and after dinner, still exists but no longer has a combo. There is a small stage with a grand piano, but no one played it at any time while we were on board. The dance floor is embarrassingly small—circular and only 10 feet in diameter. It could accommodate two couples at best, if the venue were ever used, and they would have to watch out for each other. We stopped by night after night hoping to hear at least some danceable muiszac-style elevator music. There was none and the venue was usually dark. Each time we walked past (right outside the fishbowl called Club Orange) it was empty and asilent a reminder of all that is missing on this ship. We contacted HALkat band members from a previous cuise on another ship, and they report that this is part of a general curtailment of dancing that is creeping into HAL. This is quite sad and disappointing on a cruise line that just a couple of years ago was marketing Dancing with the Stars. There is a potentially magnificent dance floor in the Crow’s Nest, but in contrast to other HAL ships it is not used for this purpose. The CN is now the center for booking excursions, a coffee bar, library, and extremely pleasant vantage point; it is no longer a dance venue. We have been told that as other ships are refitted, they will follow this model. Another element pertaining to dancing that surprised us, especially for a cruise leaving from South Florida, was the complete and total lack of latin music or dance, except perhaps for the few opportunities to cha cha mentioned above; nary a mambo, salsa, bolero, bachata, merengue, or tango was heard all week. As for other genres, I think we heard two recorded fox trots during intermissions in various venues and two waltzes and even one Viennese, also recorded during intermissions. We met a very nice Canadian couple on the dance floor and the gentleman showed us his new dance shoes and remarked, “I bought these for this cruise, and there is no dancing.” We knew what he meant. Most troubling is the dismissive attitude that the cruise line takes to the narrowness of the dance music offerings. We suggested that some recorded dance music could be played in unutilized venues over the course of the week, especially on nights when live musicians have the day off. There was none. We asked the cruise director, Jairo Lobo, if some additional dance opportunies could be provided; he brushed us off with,” But I like the music.” We are glad he does since he is stuck there every night, but his willingness to oblige was as limited as his musical appreciation. We turned in a polite and constructive suggestion card at the desk; it was never acknowledged. A cruise line executive told us that HAL had been concerned with the unevenness of the musicians before; they now approach musical entertainment as a matter of corporate partnerships, relying on brands rather than musical directors. This shows, for it seems only the corporate brands of music are available now. We suggested that their program could be enhanced by widening the genre of offerings, and these could be marketed in ways making them attractive to a wider audience of non-dancers. A single “Sinatra night,” for example, even a recorded one in an otherwise unused venue, would be one approach, costing the cruise line little to nothing. For now, branding seems to matter more than patrons. Branding is not all bad, however. The line’s partnership with Step One dance company provides performances on the 270 degree World Stage that are indeed world class and genuinely superlative. These performances go well beyond musical theatre on cruise ships by an order of magnitude. This makes the narrowness of dance opportunities for passengers all the more ironic. The Nieuw Statendam is an absolutely beautiful ship, which is well designed and in many respects state of the art. The staterooms make some of the best use of space we have seen on several cruise lines. The crew is well-trained, attentive, competent, and friendly, so the standard of service is just as high or higher than you may remember. The décor is light and modern with clean lines and open spaces. The art work, which has been a signature element of HAL, is fascinating, compelling, and effectively placed. The cuisine is also up to the usual standard and elegantly presented, which is significant in an environment in which other lines are obviously cutting corners. If the dance opportunities were not so narrow and the line so deaf to these limitations, we would rave about the ship. But, if dancing is important to you, this may not be the ship for you. Clearly the company is trying to alter its reputation as a line for older patrons. Music Walk is marketed as the core of the ship’s entertainment offerings, and it is. But those with any interest or experience in dancing, other than 1960s free-style, will find Music Walk perhaps too pedestrian. On balance we would still recommend the Nieuw Statenam, and there is some glimmer of hope, given recent correspondence with corporate management, that they are at least developing an awareness of the shortcomings described here. We think they would like to be more accommodating but are somewhat boxed in by branding, the centrality of the Music Walk concept, a desire to shed some of their traditional image, and hardnosed business decisions about what the crowd wants or will appreciate. We know they are running a business and not a social club. But surely, if classes in towel folding are deemed attractive, a wider range of musical offerings must be as well. But this was significantly older than I was prepared for!! One of the things we have long associated with cruising was incredible entertainment. This ship had little of that. And what they had did not coordinate well with the dinner seating times in the main dining room. With the late (read 8pm) dinner seating, our only option was to go to the “show” at 7... which meant you needed to arrive by 6:30 to get a seat... which meant you needed to be back in your room by 5:00 in order to shower and dress... Not exactly the relaxing dinner I was hoping for. We thought that choosing a regular dinner time and an assigned table would give us an opportunity to meet fellow passengers and enjoy some lively conversation but that was not our experience. Dinner companions with respiratory illness should eat in their cabin!!! Dinner service was decent but there were significant delays between courses. The food was flavourful and the menu varied. Overall the food was what I expected. And way better than any all inclusive resort I have ever been to. Our cabin steward was friendly and eager to please but not the best at cleaning... oh well. The ship is new. And looks it. But I was expecting more luxurious appointments throughout. New will only last so long and then there will be little to recommend. The three main “lounges” where there was live entertainment every night are all adjacent. This has both pros and cons... if you don’t like one, it is a short walk to the next but the music from one “bleeds” into the next. Sitting in the back of one room often meant you could hear what they were playing next door through the walls. Overall, we had a pleasurable holiday. No one wants to complain too loudly about their cruise. Did HAL blow my socks off? No. Will I sail with them again? Maybe... when I’m 80. And I too may bring my walker. Read Less

Recently returned from a 2 week cruise for which I paid in excess of $13000 (excluding air fare) The Good Our Neptune Suite Our suite attendants The Neptune Lounge Club Orange Complimentary Laundry The Bad The fact that other than water/tea and coffee/cranberry no other complimentary beverage in the lounge Lack of shade on decks HAL too keen to charge extra for everything Tender loading took too long 40 minutes (especially when using the locals) for a 5 minute ride Private Island facilities too cramped and no shade Lines formed at the Lido at lunch time due to insufficient staff numbers The Ugly There is a dress code applied in the main dining room - in particular no shorts We went to Tamarind and Canaletto twice. On every occasion there were people wearing shorts. I find this offensive especially as one has to pay a premium to attend these establishments and their website classifies these as "Fine Dining" I discussed this with the Hotel Manager Errol who agreed with me. However it just endorses how keen HAL is to make the "extra buck" I expressed dissatisfaction with the dress code policy on the ship for which I requested a refund of $210 only to be offered $100 on board credit on a future cruise This I refused and then requested that they make a charitable donation instead which was also snubbed. We have sailed on 9 HAL cruises over the last 5 years for a total of 103 days. This new ship was very disappointing for us. *The ship seems crowded all the time and there are lines for everything, food, ice cream, hamburger bar, pizza bar and dining room. We waited a very long time for burgers at Dive In and for a reuben sandwich at the pizza bar. *The promenade deck was so disappointing. It is extremely narrow and sometimes its single file areas. There is no view of the sea as you walk because the lifeboats are hanging right next to the railing. We have never experienced this before. *Most of the servers and table assistance crew were not very helpful or friendly. There were a few exceptions of people that were happy everyday and greeted us. Mary and Herlina were exceptional. *Extremely hard to find a lounge chair at the pool or back of ship if you were not out there early reserving a seat which isn't allowed but happens. *It was very hard to find a quiet place to read or relax. The TV in stateroom was excellent as far as size and quality but hard to figure out how to find things to watch. There was not much navigational information as there has been in the past. It's nice to know how far to the next port and have better information provided. We won't sail on this ship again!! Read Less

You can order drinks in Lido by pushing a button on your table!! Portions of balconies on deck 8 are visible from window tables in some sections of Lido Muster drill at 3:45 on first day forced 2900 pax to interior stations on deck 2 and 3. The 12 elevators were packed at the conclusion for well over an hour Happy hour was only on deck 2, Crow's Nest was quiet as a morgue First 3 days martinis had large olives stuffed with blue cheese Crow's Nest coffee Bar opened at 8 am not 7 Signature suite closets are lit when the their door is openned Room fridge is covered by solid door causing quite a bit of heat between fridge and door Delivered room breakfast have new costs for...Steak&Eggs,$9.50, Kick Start, $4.95 and Smoked Salmon Benedict, $7.50 Room shower has wand, rain forest head and side jets. No night light in bath room. Qtips and cotton balls in jar between sinkRound ship's clock on wall by bed that was adjusted by room steward We ate 33,921 eggs while travelling 2013 miles Please if you bring a book leave a book Enjoy Bob Read Less

The ship is very elegant, with beautiful artwork throughout. The crew was very friendly, seemed happy, and we’re always willing to help. The cabins were relatively roomy with lots of drawers for storage. The food was excellent in the dining room. The shops were understated and there was not merchandise present in the aisles. The entertainment was not as good or as varied in the mai theater as on other ships. However, there were many styles and locations for music on the ship. There were five hot tubs on the ship for which were the smallest I’ve ever encountered. Those four would not hold for adults comfortably. The ports were excellent. Grand Turk was almost like a private island. The private island was excellent. Surprisingly, we were the only ship in port at Saint Thomas which made for a surprisingly uncrowded visit. San Juan seem cleaner than the last time I visited. I would definitely sale on the Nieuw Statendam again. Read Less

We chose the NS because it was the inaugural year of it's launch and we always sailed on the smaller ships. A larger ship would be a new experience for us. The ship was beautiful however the promenade deck is a disappointment to us. We are walkers and like to do so early in the morning. We found the promenade on the NS to have mostly obstructed views, sections of the deck to be very narrow and usually lots of crew members washing the deck. Also there are no lounge chairs on the promenade. Our cabin was an aft verandah on the 7th deck (Schubert). It seemed smaller than our last year cruise on the NA,...but maybe that is just our imagination. There was a shower in our cabin and it was nicely decorated however the sink area was very small. We are smaller people in comparison to many onboard. I don't know how a larger person could be comfortable. We split our dinner options mostly between the Lido buffet and the Main dining room. We also tried the Dive-In and Dutch cafes. We ate all our breakfasts and lunches in the Lido. The food was very good in both areas and the Dutch Cafe had great coffees and wonderful deserts. The pea soup is wonderful although the did add a slice of what seemed to be raw bacon on a cracker as a side.The Dive-In got our orders screwed up adding options to tour burgers that they thought we would enjoy. Entertainment was the typical HA experience. No Broadway show types, 2 comics (Fred Klett was a riot), a string quartet with piano and a dance company. There is also BB Kings, Billboard and Rolling Stone areas that have decent performers. Service provided was outstanding. The crew members hustle, are always polite and smiling, and really do a great job of keeping passengers happy. The shore excursions do seem a bit pricey for what you get but they make the cruise experience seem like you are learning about different areas of the world. Of course Half-Moon Cay is our favorite stop and could spend the entire cruise right there. Embarking was sort of a painful wait. They send you an email to tell you what time you embark but I doubt many really follow that recommendation. They give you a group number when you enter the building but we saw people with number 16 entering with people having number 8. Dis-embarking was a mess. Our assigned time of leaving was 9:00 am but we manged to only leave at 10:30. It messed up our travel arrangements as we had someone waiting for us. We realize port authority has something to do with that but that needs to be rethought. We would probably do other cruises with HA but I think the smaller ships are a bit more intimate and to our liking. Read Less
