There are 22 of us and we had a blast. From the waiters ,housekeepers, cruise director, cooks, reservations, and everybody , was so good. I can't ask for more!,, Manuel, the chef ,cook special food for us. One night ,one of the young ones celebrated his birthday and the treated him like a prince. They served a beautiful and delicious cake and wine and liquor.we had a party right at the dinner room. The cruise director went with us on our tours and made sure everybody's ok, and know what to do. Embarkation and disembarkation is well manage. The piano room and and the lounge room is well organized and we spent our post dinner singing and dancing until it's time to rest and be ready for the next day. All the tours are exceptional The ini golf was a hit for the golfers.they had a great time, playing like children. Joggers enjoyed the path , enjoying the view while walking. The captain showed us how he control the boat. The chef showed us his kitchen and how he manages his help. The kitchen is so clean..room are so clean and help is available all the times if we need help.i sent pictures several months ago .( to tour coordinator). Read Less

We loved everything about this Viking Cruise. The ship was brand new and absolutely beautiful. Our cabin was nicely appointed. We had a spacious balcony where we could sit and enjoy the passing scenery. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The food and wine was amazing. The trips into port were always fun and informative with local tour guides. The only thing we lacked were bicycles but next time we will rent them in port. We started our trip in LePec, a suburb of Paris adjacent to the very historic town of St. Germaine-en-laye. We sailed from Paris to Normandy with stops in Rouen to see the great cathedral, Monet's house and gardens at Giverny and several other ports of call in historic and charming towns along the Seine. We also had a wonderful day in Paris. The highlight was a day spent at the Normandy beaches including a walk through the American cemetery and World War II museum. Read Less

The Staff on the boat were amazing and entertaining..........the food was excellent...wine selection......not so good but were able to bring on our own wine from Paris.........Dining was at the same time every night......we always tried to sit at a different table to meet new people......the ports were educational....the guides were very smart!! they knew their history!!! We explored Paris before the cruise and stayed in Paris 3 days after the cruise. The entire experience was well organized with absolutely NO glitches. Cabins were fine , your didn't spend much time there so that really didn't matter. Food and service was fabulous and all of the shore excursions were perfect. WE would absolutely do Viking for our next cruise!! From the airport to the ship the experience was smooth. Viking also followed though will our 3 extra days in Paris and provided transportation back to the airport from the hotel we were staying at in Paris. This was our first river cruise and honestly we enjoyed it completely. Our next cruise will probably be a river cruise as well. Viking is a first class company who stands by their ads and outstanding service. The shore excursions were well planned, efficiently conducted and local guides provide interesting details. Read Less

We choose this cruise because we went on the Rhine cruise earlier this summer and enjoyed it very much. It was the first cruise we had ever experienced. Then when we returned from the first cruise, Viking sent an email offering a very nice price on what appeared to be a number of "last minute" bookings. One of them was this Paris to Normandy cruise. We had never been to Paris and looked forward to seeing the D-Day memorial in Normandy. We were not disappointed. The cruise again exceeded our expectations and was thoroughly enjoyable. Once again the accommodations, food, excursions, service, and crew (especially our cruise director- Lionel) were outstanding. There was so much to see and do in Paris, which thanks to Viking planning, was extraordinary. The guided tours were very well done and the guides quite pleasant and knowledgeable. We found equally enjoyable the other smaller town and villages that we stopped at along the Seine on the way to Normandy. Just a great overall experience. We are looking forward to being able to travel with Viking once again. Read Less

This was our first cruise with Viking and we did not know what to expect. I can honestly say that from start to finish Viking really exceeded our expectations. When we disembarked the plane we were met by Viking hosts who whisked us off to our shuttle. We stayed for 3 nights in Paris prior to our cruise and they even had a Viking Concierge at the hotel we stayed at. We booked everything through Viking and it was very seamless. It was well worth the extra expense to stay in Paris because we saw a lot. When it was time to board the ship everything was handled efficiently and we never felt at anytime like Viking dropped the ball in any area. The food onboard was excellent with enough choices and the wine was very good as well. It wasn't top shelf wine, but was more than adequate and they even had regional wines a few nights. The cabin was clean and the French Balcony was worth the extra because it let in a lot of natural light. Cabin wasn't huge but the space was used well. The ship had a nice intimate feel to it and it sort of felt like being on your own private yacht!! Staff went out of their way to make sure you were having a good time. The included excursions were a good way to see the different stops with some time on your own as well. The nighttime entertainment consisted of trivia or piano playing and most times we were so tired we would just go back to our cabin. Dinner would usually be around 7 PM and by the time we were done it was after 9. So we would go to the lounge to grab a drink or simply retire to our cabin. One night they had a cheese tasting and that was fun! It was a very relaxing cruise and a nice departure from the huge cruise ships with thousands of people. Read Less

We have cruised the Caribbean, Alaska and Hawaii so when our friends called about a good deal on a Viking River cruise in France we were intrigued. It ended the day before our 40th Wedding anniversery. Freinds , Anniversery and value--seemed like it was meant to happen. This was the Paris to Normandy cruise on the Kadlin. The price tag was twice our usual Caribbean cruising and with upfront payment this will probably make River Cruising a special treat not a routine event. We did add the 3 day pre-cruise Paris extension and were glad we made those arrangements. The pre-cruise extension gave more time to explore Paris on our own and recuperate from the flight before the cruise. Our friends who went straight from the airport to the boat were exhausted for the first 2 days. Our Viking Hotel representative noted her observation that those who come before the cruise enjoy the time more than those who stay after the cruise. Those after the cruise are tired from the cruise. We hired our own guide for tours in Paris those three days and used Viking's when we moved to the Kadlin. We went with the Viking Cabaret experience which was very enjoyable. It was a late evening and not having to coordinate transportation was big plus. Our Balcony cabin was comfortable and functional.which suited us welll. The Kadlin is well laid out as one would expect on a new boat. The staff for the most part were attentive but in the background. The meals were delicious and well served. Having the wine included meant I did not have to spend time trying to match the right wine at an affordable price at each meal as was done on prior ocean cruises. The Cruise Director was very personable, a wealth of information and made sure all went smoothly. The evening cultural events were more enjoyable than I expected. There was a good balance between tours and events and time to relax. The pace is much slower than a typical Caribbean cruise and allowed more time to savor the culture rather than be constantly active, The tours provided with the cruise were professional and enjoyable. Size of the groups was kept manageable. They provided a good exposure to the culture for those of us who had not been to France. I suspect if one has spent significant time in France they would have been too touristy. Best yet there was no sticker shock at the end of the cruise. Return to the airport and getting us to our plans was well orchestrated and smooth as was the whole experience. This river cruise is generally not designed for children. If you are to consider bringing children I would suggest take a river cruise yourself and then decide. Right age, right child and this could be a special memory. Wrong age wrong child could make this a trip you wish you had not chosen. There were no children on our cruise. The intamincy of the boat allowed us to meet some interesting and enjoyable people on this cruise. There is more personal interaction with other cruisers than normally found on a large boat. The boat was big enough when we found someone who was not enjoyable for us it was easy enough to put distance between us afterwards. We love to travel and my Wife and I both agreed this is our favorite adventure together. 40+ years of adventures, so that mean this cruise can be very special. We look forward to enjoying another river cruise when we can afford it in a few years. Read Less

The cruise was to celebrate birthdays. It was beyond our expectations. Great service, superb meals, excellent thoughtful crew members, well conducted tours (very informative), excellent environment and prestine clean ship. Loved it. The crew were pleasant and remarkably were able to remember your drink preferences and names. I had a food allergy. Not only were they accommodating they ensured I was awaited of any issues I might encounter offering alternatives. The chef was informative as to each meal selection, recommended wines, and was an exceptional cook, Every meal was above expectations. The tours were well organized. All guides were very knowledgeable, pleasant and accommodating. The ship had selected key tours with great historical value. We were not disappointed. We appreciated we were also able to venture out on our own to investigate various cities on our own, if we so desired. We did this on a few occasions and enjoyed the discoveries we ventured upon. Shuttles were available to take you from and back to the boat. E.g. To investigate Paris on your own. Etc. A cruise that makes you want to come back and do it all over again. Read Less

We had heard many good things about Viking Cruises. While this was our first Viking Cruise, it more than exceeded our expectations and will not be our last. We have already booked our next. Everything shipboard was extraordinary. The staff couldn't be more helpful, accommodating, friendly and just easy to be around; the food was excellent, interesting, and beautifully presented; shipboard entertainment while limited was fun and geared to the passengers; the excursions were many and varied (if anything, we may be a little more eager to schedule free time for our own explorations) and the other passengers were just plain great. We made friends that I am sure we will keep in touch with in the future. While I cannot say enough good things about the shipboard experience the post ship 3 days in Paris generated a bit less positivity. The onsite coordinator was helpful, no complaints there. The hotel, the Rochester, while centrally located was a disappointment from entry into the room. Our room was small, the curtains were hanging off their hooks, and in my opinion didn't qualify as a 4 star hotel. Speaking with other cruise passengers who were also guests indicated that their rooms were lovely, large, and well appointed. So not only were my husband and I disappointed in our room but we felt as if we had been given the short straw in room assignment. I am assuming that we all paid the same after cruise premium which makes the disparity in rooms even more difficult to understand. Read Less

The shore excursions that were provided were amazing. And you had choices of additional excursions you could do, which we did some of them had a wonderful time. Some of the excursions we did were... The Louvre, The Palace of Versailles, Claude Monets home, Notre Dame cathedral , Arc de Triomphe, The Eiffel Tower, King Richard the Lion Hearts castle , actual site where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake, and multiple landing sites at the beaches of Normandy, including the cemetery at Normandy, which words cannot describe the feelings/ emotions that you experience when you are there! This was our first Viking River Cruise. The service was excellent and the food was always very good, if not delicious. The maitre d went out of his way to accommodate my husband's complex eating habits. Our host for the cruise, Lionel, was superb. He is as charming, informative and entertaining as a person could possibly be. It is worth booking a cruise with Lionel just for the joy of his company. The excursion guides were likewise often excellent and at worst, very good. We extended in Paris for 3 days and Viking took good care of our restaurant reservations in Paris and made the airport/VAT experience as painless as it can be. My only complaint is that embarkation/debarkation from Le Pecq is not great but it barely detracted from the overall experience. We wouldn't hesitate, and indeed intend to take another Viking River or Ocean Cruise in the future. Bravo Viking! Read Less

Viking was offering a fantastic deal for this cruise; two for one fares plus cancel up to the day before departure with a full refund (Viking no longer offers the full refund; believe it was due to events in Europe/France at the time). The cruise was phenomenal; we hadn't been on a river cruise and it was on our bucket list. Viking also offered air fare for an extremely reasonable price. The ship was placed into service earlier this year and was very elegant from the lobby/atrium to the lounge (light and airy - a good place to "get away"), to the dining facilities (great views from all seats) to the cabins. The cabins were smaller that what we've experienced on ocean cruises, but was spacious enough for the journey and we had a French balcony, which allowed us to open the floor to ceiling window (similar to sliding doors). The food was excellent and there were several selections plus a standard menu available each night. At breakfast and lunch you had the option of the buffet or ordering from the menu (the pancakes were amazing). The servers became well acquainted with you and treated you well; they spoke very good English, and could converse in multiple languages. The staff was extremely professional, but able to joke and have conversations with you. Viking really tries to accommodate dietary restrictions/preferences. My husband and his brother got an impromptu tour of the navigation bridge from the First Officer, simply by asking the question. Excursions are included for each port, with some having additional excursions to purchase, such as the Paris + Louvre, Versailles, and Paris by Night - all were worth the extra cost. The local walking tours were informative about the regions. We like the fact that Viking doesn't nickel and dime you for everything; wine and beer are included with lunch and dinner; free wi-fi, complimentary water in cabin and for each excursion; complimentary umbrellas for inclement weather; complimentary coffee/tea service outside the lounge 24 hours. After a damp/chilly day at the Normandy Beaches, the ship greeted us with "Happy Hot Chocolate" on our return to the ship. The ship docks in Le Pecq, which is about 35-45 min from Paris via shuttle (Viking provided, free). Our transfer from the airport to the ship was flawless and easy; departure from the ship was easy, however the airport part was hectic, hurried, and we almost got lost/left behind. The woman greeting the group at the airport left for the check-in area before getting all the passengers and their luggage. She provided no instructions and practically raced to the check-in area - something to be aware of. The other impressive part of Viking is that everyone on the ship works; my sister-in-law saw the captain assisting with loading luggage from the ship. The Program Director did this as well and accompanied us on all excursions. There is only a walking track on the upper deck. Read Less

Although we have cruised many times on ocean cruises, this was our first river cruise. Two of our travel partners had previously sailed with Viking on their Danube/Rhine itinerary and their high praise moved us to join them on the Paris to Normandy cruise. Everything was outstanding! We booked the three-night hotel pre-cruise hotel package through Viking. The Rochester Champs-Elysees Hotel was in a central location and very comfortable. The rooms were small but that is common in Europe The hotel stay included the services of a Viking concierge and a Paris walking tour. It was great that the tour included a subway ride which helped us learn how to navigate our way outside of walking distance. We were aware that the Kadlin did not dock in Paris, but rather in the suburb of Le Pecq Having spent several days in Paris, including Bastille Day, we got to experience the flavor of Paris and it was okay to be 11 miles from the city. There was a grocery store near by where we stocked up on extra wine for our cabins. The first day in Le Pecq included a Paris City Tour. If you chose to stay in Paris longer, there were shuttles available at different times to return passengers to the Kadlin. The other ports were beautiful and the included tours were very good. We signed up for one optional tour to the Palace of Versailles and were glad we did. Our favorite day was visiting the Normandy beaches and American cemetery. Viking gave each passenger a rose to place at a grave. We also gathered at Omaha beach to sing our National. Anthem and pay tribute to our armed forces veterans on our tour. The service from all staff was outstanding. The food on the Kadlin was better than experienced on any ocean cruise. I highly suggest going with the daily "Chef's recommendation." Every day it turned out to be the best choice, even though every choice is a winner. The Veranda cabin was very clean and had ample drawers and shelves for storage. We had a king sized bed with outlets for phones and other devices on both sides. I requested additional hangers and received them right after asking. There are water bottles daily in the cabins as well as for each time passengers leave for tours. The mini fridge was nice too. Embarkation and disembarkation were easy Luggage was set out one hour prior to one's scheduled disembarkation. There were some early flights with folks leaving the Kadlin at 4 am. A Viking rep was on the bus and walked us inside our particular terminal at CDG so that everyone was in the correct line. If there was anything that we would have liked better, I guess it would have been traveling down the River Seine on more days. We were parked in Le Pecq and Rouen two nights each. As is part of river cruising, there were two times another river boat parked right next to the Kadlin. The balcony was useless on those days or evenings. However, our group enjoyed sitting on the top deck every evening after dinner enjoying our wine and views of the French countryside. The balcony was seldom used. I also suggest you periodically check the status of your airline flights if you book with Viking. Ours changed and we were never informed of the change. If I had not checked one week prior, we would have missed our connection due to changes made by Delta. I highly recommend river cruising with Viking and I look forward to cruising with them again. We choose Viking because of their reputation, and we were not disappointed! From the moment we met our transportation in the Paris airport until we arrived back at the airport, we traveled top notch. We knew that the crew was trained for any situation. They were very compassionate, yet frank about the events that occurred. We had the best vacation ever. The crew was extremely professional, caring, listened to and met our needs and were approachable, knowledgeable, and warm. I can't say enough nice things. Within a few weeks of returning home, we booked our next river cruise Viking vacation for July 2017! The booking process was easy. I was always able to reach an agent if I needed immediate assistance. Information presented online was easy to access. Booking our "extra" excursions was very easy. Read Less

Our cruise staff and director were outstanding and accommodated everyone's needs. We were greeted at the airport upon arrival, well cared for throughout the week and delivered to the airport for departure in a manner beyond our expectations. We especially enjoyed our visit to Normandy and our tour guide for that excursion was extremely knowledgable of the area, the history and the culture of the region. We chose Viking's Paris and the Heart of Normandy river cruise because we wanted to visit the Beaches of Normandy and pay our respects to all the brave souls who gave up their lives so we could enjoy the freedoms we enjoy today. This was our third Viking cruise. We went on the Portraits of Southern France and enjoyed it so much, we took the Amsterdam to Budapest, with a three day extension to Prague, last year. We also have an ocean cruise and another river cruise booked with Viking for next year. The Viking experience is wonderful. We booked the flights along with the cruise and were met at the airport and whisked to our boat, the Kadlin. We were there so early, we had a small breakfast and later lunch and went on a brief walking tour in the afternoon. All of the transfers are included, which makes for a seamless vacation. All we have to do is relax, enjoy fellow passengers, the wonderfully modern boat, the friendly staff, food and drinks along with nightly entertainment - opera singers, piano virtuoso and informative talks before our dinner to go through the next day's activities. The cabins are lovely and have everything you need to make your cruise as comfortable as possible. Incredibly soft and comfortable bed with lovely linens, pillows and duvet. Sad to have to leave it every morning! The lounge area is huge and has floor to ceiling windows so you can sit there and enjoy a drink, cup of coffee or tea and enjoy the views from both sides or the boat. There is also a lovely sun deck for photo ops and sitting in the warm sun as you sail along or just rest in port. The staff were as courteous as you could possibly wish for and meals most delectable. Service was incredibly efficient and we felt so welcome and treasured as guests, which is why we keep on going back on Viking cruises. We enjoyed all the tours with informative guides. The Paris at night was fun and it was absolutely spectacular seeing the Eiffel Tower sparkling at night. Truly magical. The D Day Beaches were very moving and sad. Viking provided a separate luxury coach, as all of their coaches are, for the 18 of us who were interested in Juno and the Commonwealth Beaches. A very moving day which was the highlight of our trip. We also enjoyed Monet's gardens - just incredibly beautiful and fragrant. The Medieval city of Rouen was lovely and each excursion had very knowledgeable and pleasant guides. The Paris tour included a visit to the Notre Dame cathedral, also breathtaking in its beauty and stained glass windows. All in all, a most wonderful cruise and we can hardly wait until next year's adventures to Portugal on a river cruise and Into the Midnight Sun - an ocean cruise. Read Less

The boat is unbelievable; there is absolutely no noise or vibration that you can feel. You would not even know you were moving, that's how smooth it is. The boat is much smaller than a large cruise ship so you feel at home and not lost in a 10 story "apartment" as you would in a typical ocean ship. It is also perfectly clean and fastidiously maintained. The cruise staff treated us (and all other passengers) as special guests, even welcoming people returning from town guided walks with glasses of champagne or wine. All staff were accommodating, including the room service people, the front desk, the wait staff and the officers. The food choices are excellent and very well prepared and served with unlimited complimentary wine or other drink. Also, there were many choices on a daily basis of tours, lectures, classes; truly something for everyone. We took the shuttle Viking provided free of charge to center Paris near the Petit Palais and walked for hours. We also took the Paris metro and went to the Musee Marmottan Monet and Sacre Couer in Montmartre. The Viking people did a great job at the US cemetery in Normandy; they organized a very moving ceremony and distributed roses for us to place on some of the graves. This was very much appreciated by all of us, I can tell you that. We'll not forget it. We highly recommend Viking cruises and plan to take others in the future. Read Less

We always wanted to visit Paris and this was the perfect way to do so. Everyone on the cruise was helpful and courteous. It was the best cruise we have been on. We enjoyed all of the tours throughout the cruise. Normandy was our favorite stop on the cruise. Several men were present dressed in full uniform that served in the war. I went up to each of them to thank them for their service. It was a very emotional and wonderful feeling to speak with these gentlemen. The food was excellent and there was enough variety to choose from. There was an activity each night for entertainment. We were sailing on the fourth of July and they had an American Bar-B-Q on the deck. They served hot dogs, hamburgers, corn on the cob, watermelon, etc. which added a nice touch to the cruise. All of the staff made sure everyone's needs were met. The cabin was adequate in size and kept very clean. Kudos to Viking and their staff. They did an excellent job. We would definitely take another Viking cruise. Read Less

We chose this line because it had been highly recommended by our friends. We were not disappointed. The crew bent over backwards to please. The food was delicious and the selections were out of this world. We also enjoyed complimentary wine and beer with lunch and dinner. The long ship was clean and the bed, particularly after a busy day of touring, was comfortable as well. We loved the itineraries which were varied and highly organized. Every day there was an included trip which highlighted the region we were visiting with always built in time to souvenir shop. The trips were informative and we were able to see many things and places before they got crowded. Two days after returning home we booked our second cruise and this time we will be cruising the Rhine. I can't say enough about this cruise line, they know how to do things right! Read Less

We took this cruise as my wife had not been to Paris before. This was our first River Cruise and i cannot say one thing bad about Viking and their service. Just before we arrived i found out that our travel agent did not book the transfers. I called the ship direct form the states and was assured they would take care of us when we arrived at CDG and would handle all for us. They did without any problem and made it seamless. They pay attention to every detail while you are there. The entertainments is very good and Lionell our cruise director is amazing. The food was more than abundant and was outstanding in both taste and variety. The agenda was excellent, the tours were great and all the modes of transportation to get there was very comfortable. Now be aware that there are some things Viking cannot control. Paris had very wet spring and the Seine River was over the banks so they had to dock futher from Paris than they had planned. This just means a little more time on the coach than would have been and they pull it off without a hitch. We are doing another one and after that another. Read Less
