This was my 5th cruise with Viking. Three wonderful meals a day, beer and wine with lunch and dinner, shore excursions, air and airport transfer all included, I don't think you can beat the price. The Kadin has an amazing staff. Our wait staff remembered every detail of my reds. The knew I loved the chef's eggs benedict and made sure it was ready for me each morning, even when it was not on the menu. This was my first solo trip and I was a little nervous, that is why I chose Viking. I knew I didn't have to worry about a thing. The tour director even gave the waiters in the lounge orders to dance with the single girls at our table. What great fun! I met many wonderful travelers on the voyage, as well as, on the Loire Valley extension. In March I have my first Viking Ocean voyage to the west Indies. Everyone was always friendly and went out of their way to ensure you were completely satisfied. Layout of ship was awesome making it a pleasure to just sit on the deck and enjoy traveling down the river. Easy to find your way around after a few missteps (right from left side)! Halls, steps, rooms and engines very quiet. Dockings were handle excellently with no to little docking movement. Cannot say enough of the great time that was had! Definitely very relaxing and lots of fun! Enjoyed meeting new friends and amazed at how many from New England states! Topics of conversations centered around families, retirement, and way too much SNOW in the winter months up north! The time went by all to fast! We choose this cruise as a better reward and adventure to ourselves. Viking did most of the logistical planning including air flights, meeting us at the airport, bringing us to the ship, along with many other niceties that impressed us so very much. Each meal was excellent, service again excellent the staff and crew also excellent. The ports and excursions were well planned and went without a hitch, thoughtfully and engineered to make the trip an enjoyable pleasure. Our cabin was clean, well maintained, comfortable along with the patio. The air conditioning was very good as was the TV. We certainly had a good time meeting and socializing with other guests at dinner and other activities in the ship and on deck. Our excursions were handled with us, the guests, in mind, water was freely given for each trip the buses used were the best. We were fortunate that this trip was chosen by us and Viking River Cruises certainly exceeded our expectations, Thank you Viking. Read Less

We wanted to experience a more intimate, friendly cruise experience. We have grown tired of the big, mega ships with thousands of passengers. The meals were of top quality and a highlight of each evening. The ship staff were always polite and willing to help with any question s we had. The excursions were right on. They were long enough so we could enjoy the locale that we were visiting and still gave us time to unwind before dinner on the ship. In general, everything went well. All the events and excursions were well planned and went off without a hitch. GREAT TRIP. We enjoyed the experience so much that we have already booked another river cruise for next summer. Both of our fathers served in Europe during the second world war and we wanted to partially retrace their footsteps throughout France and Germany. Again a very good trip. Worth every penney. We spent three days in Paris before embarkation and we had a great time. We celebrated my wife's birthday with supper at the Eiffel tower and a boat cruise on the Seine River. My wife was interested in castles and we were able to visit six of them during our cruise. My father was a veteran of WWII who landed on D-Day and we visited the beaches of Normandy. We visited Monet's gardens on another shore excursion. The Ship was very nice and the crew was friendly, and helpful. We enjoyed meeting new people every night over delicious food and wine. The cabin had ample storage and the crew kept it spotless through the entire trip. This was our first cruise and we both had a wonderful trip thanks to viking and their great staff. I would highly recommend Viking they made sure every thing went smoothly from the time our plane landed until our return flight. Read Less

The cruise was beautiful and the side trips was wonderful. The Normandy trip was particularly heartwarming. I had a number of uncles who were in the invasion during D-day. The American Cemetery and the landing on Omaha beach brought tears to my eyes. The food was very good, but needed more French food. The service was exceptional. However, the room was very tight with almost no room to move. The trips to Monet's gardens and the Heart of Normandy were not for those who have any difficulty walking. I got a wheelchair and felt embarrassed because I could walk but I was too slow. The trip did not leave from Paris. So when we got off the train and logged out our luggage, we tried to get a cab to take us to the location of the cruise ship. No one knew where the location was, including the cab drivers because it was not in Paris. Anyone going on this cruise absolutely arrange from transportation from Paris and back, if needed. Read Less

This was my first cruise and my second trip to Europe. My sister and I went on this cruise together and we both found it truly remarkable. The food, the service, the excursions, everything was beyond my expectations. I loved the crew on the Kadin. They saw to every need with a smile. The chef was truly outstanding. I've never had such delicious food. We were so enthralled by the landscape and one of my favorite pastimes was sitting on the observation deck and looking at the beautiful scenery. The excursions were interesting and educational, with enough free time built in that we could shop. I really enjoyed the ones in Paris where we visited several specialty shops - chocolate, cheese, wine. I could go back in a flash! We liked it so much, we're going on another Viking cruise this summer. Thank you, Viking, for the best vacation I have ever had! Read Less

We had never done a river cruise and Viking had a good rating and reviews. Our only real complaint is that Viking booked our flight with Delta - DFW to Atlanta to Paris. Our experience in the Atlanta airport was horrendous. We had an 18 hour layover because Delta couldn't seem to get a plane in to Atlanta that was not in need of repair. We were totally exhausted when we reached Paris. We booked a three day pre-cruise in Paris and missed the first day completely. Our experience on the ship was wonderful. We had never cruised on a small ship and the cozy experience was wonderful. We were able to meet a lot of nice people and could choose our table for dining and sit with different people at each meal. This made the trip more interesting. The excursion to Omaha Beach was the highlight of the trip and very moving since my dad had been there during the war. We look forward to another river cruise. This cruise fro Paris to Normandy was an awesome experience. We did it with the Paris extension. This allowed us to spend time walking the streets of Paris, extra time in the Louvre and other Parian museums. Also, the vista of the Eiffel tower is must see. The cruise itself was wonderful A seamless check in with constant, but not overbearing attention throughout. The excursion were picked with care. Giverny with Picasso's home and gardens was wonderful highlight. Normandy was moving from all on the trip. There was a special ceremony which I will not describe, but those on a Viking Cruise should experience. I a not a tour person, but the groups were small enough that you didn't have the herding experience, and you could fall behind or get ahead when a spot called you. The food was excellent. The wine plentiful and we met wonderful new friends at our dinner table. I strongly encourage you to consider this experience. Read Less

It had exactly what we wanted. Several days in Paris before the trip, Paris itself, some usual tourist stops with a guide, the small town stops on the seine, and Normandy Beaches. History from Joan of Arc to D Day. Great ship, staff, etc. A family tragedy at home cut our trip short by a day, and the staff could not have been more supportive and helpful. Did their best to care of us. 1st class all the way. The excursions were quite good: informative, engaging, and surprising. From Monet's gardens to the streets of Vernon and it's churches and onward to the beaches of Normandy, we were taught a great deal. And to actually be standing in those spots was awe inspiring. I've always wanted to see Versailles. Now I have. All in all, this trip was all I could have (and did) imagine. The ship is the right size, the riverside scenery, the historical sites we stood at, are all a huge deal if you've never seen or been there. Read Less

We wanted a cruise that included Paris and the beaches of Normandy. We spent 3 days in Paris then went on the cruise. The whole experience was excellent. We were met at the airport and driven to the hotel in Paris where a Viking representative gave us a walking tour of the area near the hotel. The next day were taken on a walking tour that, among other things, showed us how to use the Metro and the train. Our tour guides were very good. Especially the guides in Paris. The guides were informative and in most cases gave us personal attention. The cruise was wonderful. The various stops were all good. We had a Veranda stateroom. The food and service aboard ship was excellent. We did take advantage of a few of the optional tours. Disembarkation went very smoothly. It was a life time goal to see Normandy so our experience with Viking previously had been so stellar we decided the best way to achieve that goal was with a trusted provider! We were not disappointed. The service is top notch, the food is exceptional and the accommodations are first rate. We met new people that will become life long friends, learned more about the rich history of the area and of the wines and cheeses also. This is one of the particular things I always tell people who ar considering a river cruise. During th sailing time there is usually beautiful scenery to enjoy on either side of the ship and when you reach a port there is a tour to educate you about the area and also leave you with time to experience it on your own. I highly recommend any of the cruises offered by Viking as a result of our two previous sailings. Read Less

Granted- I'm a first-time cruiser, but I loved this trip. Rooms were nice and I was pleasantly surprised at the size and quality of the bathroom/shower. Food was sensational! I've never sailed on a "real cruise ship", so maybe my view is slanted- but one of the fun things about this boat is that you are with a small crowd of 150. Over the week we sat with a number of fun folks who we saw repeatedly over the week and could pick up from previous conversations. Really, really enjoyed the staff on board. Crew was amazing and we felt they would do anything for us. Over the week we ended up getting to know most of them by name. Dinners were a highlight every day. The chef would come out nightly and describe the evening's recommendations, but we were free to choose from a number of other great options. The open-seating format was great- allowing us to meet new folks and new crew members. Read Less

The tours were well thought out and informative. We traveled with my brother and his wife and we all had a great time and agree that the food and accommodations were great. They actually jut got back from another Viking cruise and we are all planning on going on another together soon. Loved all of the tours that were included in the cruise. Cruise director Ken was very informative and had every tour organized and all went smoothly. The food and service were outstanding! We loved that there were not assigned seating during meals, we got to meet so many people from all over and it was a relaxing genre. The last night with the dancing and the crew joining in was definitely a fun event. Read Less

We enjoyed it so much that we have already booked a Viking cruise for 2018. Service was impeccable. No details were missed in planning activities, excursions, etc. We would highly recommend Viking - they really took very good care of us. We loved our cabin - it was kept so clean - it was like staying in a luxury hotel. We stayed in a French Balcony with ample storage space. The food was scrumptious and served by pleasant servers who wanted to please. There was a mix of age groups on the cruise but all were pleasant and interesting. Many choices were presented to us (food, activities, excursions, etc.) You could do as much or as little as you chose. We plan on doing this every year for as long as we can. Read Less

I am 65, newly retired, and had never been to Paris, so decided this was the perfect time. I couldn't find anyone to go with me since I decided in March to go in June, but Viking was offering a really good single supplement fare. I opted for the pre-extension trip to Paris, three days, and it was fabulous even if *quite* hot. Here there was no help as far as the hotel single supplement; I had to pay for both people which made the hotel quite expensive. Still, I really wanted the extra time in the city. Most of the people I ended up hanging out with during the cruise were those who also did the Paris add-on as we got to know each other then. The cruise was really nice with good stops. The only thing I wish we could have done was go to St. Malo. It's far, I know, but I really, really want to go there and I was so close. Giverney was jam packed with people. It was hard to really enjoy the gardens for all the people. My favorite village was Petite Andelys. The hike to the castle at the top is a true hike. I thought we should have stopped a couple times instead of just once for everyone to catch their breath. But it's the village itself I liked so much, not the castle. It's just beautiful! The light and sound show at the Rouen cathedral was incredible and a highlight of the trip. Read Less

We have sailed with Viking previously and again have had another memorable experience. The staff and crew were some of the best. They exceeded all expectations of our fellow traveling companions. Being personally guided thru the airport upon arrival and especially for our departure was wonderful again especially for those that have not traveled internationally before. We enjoyed the programs presented by our Program Director each evening providing us with many interesting details regarding things we could do at each of our ports. The onboard musician Nicky was very talented and played a variety of different styles of music. The crew also were brought into the evening's entertainment much to the delight of the guests. Everyone was so friendly and went out of their way to be most accommodating. Our guides for the shore excursions again were some of the best have experienced. The entertainment, the food, everything top notch. Thank you to all that made this one of the best cruises for us. Read Less

It was a bucket list item to go to Giverny and was going to England for a tour of English gardens. Thought since I would be there so close that I would include the Paris tour. The trip was well organized, from finding the Viking Tour people at the airport when we arrived to being escorted through the airport by a representative when we left. Almost every experience was perfect, especially with the system of earphones that connected to the guides. The only negative was on the only excursion we paid for - Versailles. The crowds were large and extremely rude. The cabin was comfortable and very nicely decorated, as was the entire ship. The chef and wait staff were accommodating of my food allergies. They were sociable and pleasant, you could tell them enjoyed their jobs. I enjoyed the pace of the trip with excursions most days and then time to just sit and watch the "world" go by. I would suggest a menu that provided choices for just a sandwich and fruit at the smaller restaurant, rather than a full meal. I would caution travelers to review the options recorded for any special deals. Although we chose to use the credit given as our gratuities, it was somehow recorded as the on board beverage package, that we did not discover until four days in. I don't drink so I would never have chosen that. The on board staff said they could not remedy the issue. Read Less

This was our first river cruise and we really wanted to visit Giverny and the D-Day beaches. Paris, of course, is always wonderful. The whole experience was efficiently arranged without seeming regimented. The ship is clean, comfortable and well designed. We never felt crowded and there was always ample seating in the dining room, aquavit terrace or on deck. We never felt cramped in our cabin (veranda stateroom). The food was quite good- always a good selection at every meal with attentive service. The cruise director gave daily briefings of the next day's activities that were short and informal but gave us everything we needed to know. The ports of call were varied and well chosen. We took advantage of many of the shore excursions, which were very well organized. The trip to the D-Day landing beaches was a highlight. A very moving experience with a great local guide who shared her family scrapbook of photos and letters with us that painted a striking picture of life in Normandy during the German occupation and subsequent allied invasion. Overall, I would give the cruise an A+ rating. The experience fully met our expectations and we would certainly try another. We opted for a pre-cruise stay in Paris organized by Viking. That portion of the trip was quite expensive and, we frankly felt the value was not great. The hotel was a brisk 25 minute walk from the Arc de Triomphe in the opposite direction from the Champs Elysees. It's fortunate the Paris metro is so good- else we would have felt quite isolated. We have found more centrally located hotels in Paris and other cities for less money. We had two great walking tours (to Le Marais and St. Germain de Pres), but we could have arranged those independently. We probably would not repeat a pre-cruise stay through Viking. Overall though, a super cruise- we'll certainly do others! Read Less

One of the main reasons I chose this cruise was the itinerary including Monet's gardens and Normandy. I loved Monet's gardens so much and would have loved more time there. The experience at Normandy was sobering and heartwarming. It was a highlight of the tour. The towns along the way were charming and I enjoyed seeing them via walking tours. A little more time at The Eiffel Tower would have been good. It would have been great to have time to dine there. Some of the excursions really could have used a little more time. The guides were very knowledgeable and enjoyable. I had a little trouble understanding the accent of one of them. Transportation was always comfortable. The entire dining experience was awesome! It was wonderful to have the freedom of options and the relaxed time in the mornings. The food was gourmet quality and the staff was incredible. They reminded us often to let them know if there was anything we needed. The ship was beautiful with ample public areas, lovely dining on the deck, comfortable furniture and beautifully appointed. I met so many wonderful, charming people. Dinner conversations were lively and fun. I would do another Viking cruise in a heartbeat. Read Less

We chose this lovely cruise because it was recommended as an ideal "first timers" trip for non cruisers. Friends recommended our itinerary for our anniversary. Our special day we were at the gardens in Giverny and it was perfect. That evening we were serenaded by "our song" from the marvelous pianist/vocalist and we also received a sparkling dessert to be shared with our tablemates. Could not have been better. We felt spoiled. Every day brought new experiences. We could take part or not and that was delightful. We loved the education component and our trip on board organizer was exceptionally good at his job. We met interesting people and had wonderful wine fueled conversations as the sun set and the music filled the lounge. Who could ask for more? When something is so much better than what you anticipated you can only say "Thank You Viking for helping us celebrate our marriage milestone" in such a perfect way. And yes, we would choose to go again and bring friends with us to share the experience. Read Less

We wanted to see Normandy beaches, Monet's home and gardens plus medieval cities, castles and European river homes. Shore excursions were fantastic with interesting history info, war places, explanation of how medieval homes were built, viewing of castles on hllls, how they were built, etc. We were NOT taken to jewelry or other shops to buy anything but were given free time to do so if desired which was a definite plus from other ocean ship excursions. This was our first river cruise due to the higher price than ocean cruises so we were expecting great service, food and excursions. Viking delivered every day of the 8 day cruise on all 3 with excellent variety of food, ample portions, seconds if desired at dinner, 2 entrees or desserts available if wanted to try different foods and couldn't make a decision on which to choose! Viking's Staff were tremendously friendly, courteous, helpful and professional but also personable. They even danced the "Achy, Breaky Heart" song with cowboy hats so this was hilarious since we are from Dallas, TX, and everyone enjoyed the comraderie of the crew. We enjoyed the river cruise so much we are taking another one in October, the Grand European for 15 days and can't wait to see more sights and the Viking crew as we know they'll go out of their way to make the cruise the most memorable one possible. Paris is always a great destination. Just walking around the city is a great pleasure. Lunch in a little brasserie near Notre Dame added to that pleasure. And, a visit to Notre Dame is good anytime - a place of peace. We had never been to see Monet's gardens. This was a reason for the trip. The gardens more than lived up to expectations even though we were too early for the lilies to be in bloom. Our guide was wonderful, very knowledgeable. We took lots of photos, and had to buy a guide to the gardens to figure out all the variety of flowers. (The gift shop was an excellent shopping stop.) Omaha Beach and the American cemetery were very moving places. Rouen and the smaller towns along the way were most pleasant. And then, there was the simple pleasure of cruising on the Seine River. As always on Viking, the food was excellent, the service friendly and unparalleled, and the cabins most comfortable at the end of a hard day of tourism.
