The promotional price was good and Viking always gives great service. However, the included flights to and from France were fraught with delays and cancellations. The travel was the only downer to the trip. We had asked for consideration in assigning seats due to a medical condition and we were told that it was not possible on the return leg of the trip. This was very disappointing. The cabin was adequate and conveniently located; the room service was excellent. The dining experience was great as usual and so was the entertainment. Wait staff and chef did an excellent job. Brenton, our tour director also did an excellent job and was very efficient and concerned for everyone's welfare. The included shore excursions as well as the optional excursions were very good. There were no children on this cruise. We hope to make Viking Ocean our next cruise; however, we are sure more river cruises will be on our bucket list, too! Read Less

We chose this River Cruise because of its serene nature and smooth boating. We like to see the locks and be able to watch the various little towns as we glide along. This was our first overseas cruise and we heard that Viking always does an amazing job. The cabin was beautifully cleaned and kept every day. Our house keeper spoke wonderful English and was a pleasure to have conversation. The room had plenty of space, including the bathroom. We took advantage of as many excursions as we could fit in and the details were exact. Tour guides were knowledgeable; bus drivers were incredible in moving about narrow and busy streets. Everyone was polite and accommodating. The maitre de assisted with gluten free choices and always checked and met with me for every meal. Food was great even when we were out and about. We met lovely people who we continue to email. This trip was so good that we returned and booked another! Read Less

The length, 8 days was perfect for us. The experience of having your hotel room follow you from destination to destination was an added perk. The ship and our cabin were 5 star. Cruising on the river watching the world go by on the upper deck was one of our favorite activities. Dining was beyond exceptional with a pleasantly varied menu. The outstanding service by a terrific staff, whether it be in the dining room, in the lounge or just at the front desk made us feel like this was a place we frequently many times. Shore excursions, onboard entertainment and activities were definitely first rate. The shore excursions were always informative and fun. We learned so much about French history and the French people. We are definitely planning another Viking River Cruise for next year, possibly on the Danube River. We are looking forward to another fantastic exploration of European history and culture. Read Less

Destination and price motivated our booking. We had a group of 14 friends who travelled with us. The staff of the Kadlin bent over backwards to provide top tier service in all areas of the ship. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and extremely professional. We were not docked in Paris but were transferred by motor coach. I would have preferred to be closer to Paris but shuttles were provided. The weather was warm and pleasant so sightseeing was perfect. The tour guides on the excursions were all well informed professionals who provided in depth information about the culture and history of the areas we visited. River cruises are ideal for groups because the entire group does not have to travel together and no one has the burden of planning excursions for the group. Some days, members of our group decided to stay back on the ship or go off on their own and everyone met back at the ship for dinner. We all had a wonderful time and came back with great memories! The flight was a little challenging, going thru huge airports but we were met with Viking rep. who kept us on track and got us where we needed to be. The cabins on the Kadlin were so very clean, the staff was excellent, no request was too much. I very much enjoyed the excursions the guides were very well informed and spoke very well. Every time we left the boat we were given water and the same on the return if not a little snack. The Captain made himself available all the time. There were activities on board to prepare for some excursions. The food was excellent, if you went hungry it was your own fault, Especially enjoyed the local foods prepared on board. Enjoyed the restaurant at the Omaha Beach Golf club, local dining at it's best (part of the excursion). Would love to do another cruise. Read Less

We had heard Viking River Cruises were great! And ours was! We opted for the 3-day pre-cruise in Paris and stayed at the beautiful Marriott Opera House on Hausmann. We were met at the airport on time and were transported in a very nice Mercedes to our hotel where we checked in and met with our Viking rep at the hotel. There were free walking tours available that gave us some great history and recommendation of great places to eat. We boarded the long-ship on our 4th day for our cruise from Paris to the Beaches of Normandy. Omaha Beach was worth the trip as was the movie at the visitors center. At the American cemetery our guide conducted a very moving memorial service for us consisting of the singing of the National Anthem, prayers, recognition of veterans among our group, and we each received a red rose to place on a gravesite as we walked the rows and rows of white headstones. It was a very moving and beautiful visit. We took the optional Versailles tour, which was expensive and consisted of an included lunch at a golf course. The lunch there was terrible, but the tour was excellent. We also paid for a Paris By Night tour. It rained that evening so we didn't get to see through the bus windows as well we would have liked. It was great to see the Eiffel Tour at 11 p.m. With it's twinkling lights. We had a Veranda B room that had a lovely outdoor sitting area with 2 chairs and a table. The bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of storage to unpack our things. The room had it's own thermostat control, so we were always comfortable. All of the food was great! You could eat the buffet breakfast or choose items from a menu for all meals. We had free wine/beer with lunch and dinner. There were no assigned seats at meals which allowed you to meet lots of new people. The entertainment was wonderful with music during Happy Hour and after dinner. One evening in port a small 3-person local "soft jazz" group played, another night the piano guy sang. Both were excellent. Another evening there was a fun "dance with a staff member" contest, which was loads of fun. We met some wonderful people on the cruise as there were only 196 people aboard. Most were close to our age ranging from 60-80. The tours in each port were great, some free, some you had to pay extra for. All guides on our tours were locals and spoke English and were very knowledgeable. There were beautiful sitting areas aboard the ship. The top deck had lots of lounge chairs and also had shaded area for enjoying the view. All of the ship's staff were delightful, helpful and fun. No children are permitted, which, although we enjoy children, we didn't have to listen to whining, etc. The Captain of the ship was young and a very personable young man. My husband being retired Navy enjoyed talking with him. Our chambermaid, Gunita went the extra mile the whole trip. She noticed we had wine on the table in our room the first afternoon and that evening there were 2 wine glasses waiting for us. Our room was sparkling clean and the bath products were top-notch with fluffy towels. The bottom line is we were treated like royalty, and like family, wined and dined and loved everything about our cruise. We are already looking forward to our next cruise Amsterdam to Budapest in 2020. Read Less

We chose Viking because we heard great things about the cruise. On the cruise we discovered that it was all true. The service was excellent, the cabins were very clean, the food and nightly entertainment was amazing. And the excursions were well planned, informative and memorable. We were traveling with a party of 8. In our group there were 4 couples. As a group, we especially liked the way we were treated. The guides did their best to make certain we were in the same tour group each and every day. The attendants on board did their best to make sure we were seated together at each meal. The servers we very attendant when it came to refilling drinks and clearing away dishes. At the end of a long day of touring, it was comforting to arrive back to the boat and enjoy a warm beverage and a cookie. It was the little special touches that made Viking a great choice. After much research and visiting with friends who cruise, we decided Viking was the way to go! Having never been on a river cruise, we had our expectations set very high! Viking totally exceeded our expectations! From the shore excursions to the ship hospitality, everything was absolutely perfect! The staff and crew always made you feel like their most important guest! Viking continued to surprise us with extras! Upon arriving to our port, an unexpected shore excursion was made available at no cost to all guests. It was a great way to prevent sleeping after a long flight. Upon arriving to the American Cemetery in Normandy, all guests were provided, at no cost, a long-stemmed rose to be placed at the grave of a fallen soldier. What a moving experience. Every time we left the ship, guests were provided with bottled water. In addition, a special "welcome home" beverage was offered upon our returns. Before arriving home, we were already planning our next cruise with Viking. Thanks, Viking, for an amazing experience. We WILL be back! Read Less

This was my first Viking cruise, although I have taken cruises on big liners before. This was an incredible experience! I loved the smaller ship, focused attention and high quality experiences. It was a great value with included daily excursions. The ship was modern, convenient and clean throughout. It was designed to be elegantly casual with easy access to all services. Embarkation and disembarkation were handled easily from being met at the airport to the return. The excursions were very nice. Options were available for those of us who had limited mobility. We also had free time to explore the towns on our own. The meals were excellent with great choices. It was nice to know that the foods reflected the ports/areas we visited. All staff members were extremely friendly and helpful. Restaurant staff went out of their way to provide friendly, efficient service at all meals. I loved it so much that I have booked another river cruise this spring and recommend it highly to everyone. Read Less

In addition, we wanted to see Normandy to include the WWII beach landing sights and the cemetery. The excursions there did not disappoint. In addition, there were several other excursions that were noteworthy. One, in particular, was the tour of the fortress King Richard the Lion Hearted had built along the Seine River. This excursion was truly great. In addition to the excursions I was impressed with the smoothness and stability of the Kadlin. We never really new you were moving unless you looked outside. The ports of call were wonderful. The fall was a perfect time to travel as it isn't as hot. We were able to see the fall colors. The tour of Normandy was excellent. This was a very relaxing cruise. We didn't have to hurry. Our tour guides were very knowledgeable and fun to listen to. If you enjoy taking pictures, there were plenty of opportunities. We also enjoyed the guy who played the piano each evening. Added to the atmosphere. One tour event was at the memorial at Normandy beach. After a few words, two air force planes flew toward us as they became closer, each made a turn. Very emotional. I would recommend for anyone to take a river cruise for a uniquely different experience. Read Less

Our main goal of the cruise was to visit Normandy which was awe inspiring, but the remainder of the cruise was just as interesting and exciting. Each port provided a glimpse into the history of France. All the guides were local and provided a fun-fact tour of their cities. The transportation buses were fairly new and comfortable but some provided less leg room for those who are over 6 feet is was a little cramped. The ship was beautiful and comfortable. The crew was excellent and provided you with personal touches. The stateroom was well equiped and the space was well used. There is only one restaurant on the boat but the food was very good and varied daily. The lounge doubled as a meeting place for information talks and an inclosed relaxation area. The top deck had plenty of chairs, tables and lounges and their was enough shade provided for those wishing not to be in the sun. Read Less

Each meal was excellent, service again excellent the staff and crew also excellent. The ports and excursions were well planned and went without a hitch, thoughtfully and engineered to make the trip an enjoyable pleasure. Our cabin was clean, well maintained, comfortable along with the patio. The air conditioning was very good as was the TV. We certainly had a good time meeting and socializing with other guests at dinner and other activities in the ship and on deck. We had never done a river cruise and Viking had a good rating and reviews. Our only real complaint is that Viking booked our flight with Delta - DFW to Atlanta to Paris. Our experience in the Atlanta airport was horrendous. We had an 18 hour layover because Delta couldn't seem to get a plane in to Atlanta that was not in need of repair. We were totally exhausted when we reached Paris. We booked a three day pre-cruise in Paris and missed the first day completely. Our experience on the ship was wonderful. This allowed us to spend time walking the streets of Paris, extra time in the Louvre and other Parian museums. Also, the vista of the Eiffel tower is must see. The cruise itself was wonderful A seamless check in with constant, but not overbearing attention throughout. The excursion were picked with care. Giverny with Picasso's home and gardens was wonderful highlight. Normandy was moving from all on the trip. There was a special ceremony which I will not describe, but those on a Viking Cruise should experience. I a not a tour person, but the groups were small enough that you didn't have the herding experience, and you could fall behind or get ahead when a spot called you. The food was excellent. The wine plentiful and we met wonderful new friends at our dinner table. I strongly encourage you to consider this experience. Read Less

It had exactly what we wanted. Several days in Paris before the trip, Paris itself, some usual tourist stops with a guide, the small town stops on the seine, and Normandy Beaches. History from Joan of Arc to D Day. Great ship, staff, etc. A family tragedy at home cut our trip short by a day, and the staff could not have been more supportive and helpful. Did their best to care of us. 1st class all the way. The excursions were quite good: informative, engaging, and surprising. From Monet's gardens to the streets of Vernon and it's churches and onward to the beaches of Normandy, we were taught a great deal. And to actually be standing in those spots was awe inspiring. I've always wanted to see Versailles. Now I have. All in all, this trip was all I could have (and did) imagine. This is one of the particular things I always tell people who ar considering a river cruise. During th sailing time there is usually beautiful scenery to enjoy on either side of the ship and when you reach a port there is a tour to educate you about the area and also leave you with time to experience it on your own. Granted- I'm a first-time cruiser, but I loved this trip. Rooms were nice and I was pleasantly surprised at the size and quality of the bathroom/shower. Food was sensational! I've never sailed on a "real cruise ship", so maybe my view is slanted- but one of the fun things about this boat is that you are with a small crowd of 150. Over the week we sat with a number of fun folks who we saw repeatedly over the week and could pick up from previous conversations. Really, really enjoyed the staff on board. Crew was amazing and we felt they would do anything for us. Over the week we ended up getting to know most of them by name. Dinners were a highlight every day. The chef would come out nightly and describe the evening's recommendations, but we were free to choose from a number of other great options. The open-seating format was great- allowing us to meet new folks and new crew members. Read Less
