We boarded on Friday June 22nd. We entered our room (2039) and realized the floor was wet and there was an odor of mold. We called the front desk and they sent someone with a blower to dry it. I then realized the lower bed was wet. Not sure if this was related to the problem on the floor or if someone sat on it with a wet bathing suit and the housekeepers never bothered to put fresh sheets on the bed! Unacceptable either way!! My son then decided to take a shower and the entire floor was sopping wet! I called again asking to be moved to a new room and they repeatedly told me there was nothing! We decided to handle the problem in person so went down to the desk and said we would not stay in that room as our son has asthma that could be triggered by his mold allergy. We were told again and again there was nothing available but we refused that unacceptable room adamantly!! Finally they found an interior cabin (2114) which was fine and they told us we could have it until Sunday at 7:00am . Friday night at 11pm just as I was ready to go to bed in our new room they put a note under my door saying room 2039 was ready any time I wanted to return to it. Luckily I didn't move. The next morning we went to 2039 and a man was in there working on a broken pipe!! How that is ready to go back to I don't know! The odor persisted. We probably went to the desk 3 times on Saturday trying to get an answer as to where we would go on Sunday at 7am, everybody including Oksana gave us the runaround and wouldn't tell us. We told them there was no way we were going back to 2039! What they didn't seem to understand is that the carpet needed to be ripped up and replaced. Mold is something that should be taken very seriously and obviously they didn't get it. Saturday evening as again I was just going to bed at 11pm they put a note under my door saying I had to vacate 2114 by 7am. I was furious! All day I tried to get an answer to no avail. We had an excursion planned and had to be off the ship by 6:45 am on Sunday. At close to midnight on Saturday we found ourselves once again arguing with them at the front desk. They made us pack our bags and said they would move them to a new room by the time we got back from our excursion. This was a huge inconvenience at midnight!! We came back from our excursion and they said now we could stay in 2114 until our stop in Santorini. No one seemed to know what they were doing!! Meanwhile everything was packed. We came back from Santorini at 10pm on Sunday night and the general manager I believe Zlata Dukic or Martine Barbier ( the passenger services supervisor) finally got ahold of what was going on and put us in a suite. Earlier that day they gave us a pass to the more upscale dining, free wifi, and a bridge visit if we wanted it . Although it was a nice gesture at this point the damage was done. They had ruined our vacation with the constant fighting and begging with the front desk. I felt as if we spent more time fighting with the front desk than enjoying our vacation. We moved rooms 3 times during a 4 day cruise. We spent less than 12 hours in the suite because we had to vacate our rooms by 7am on Monday to disembark. One of the most upsetting parts was being informed via letter at 11pm that we had to move rooms. I can't imagine poorer customer service. It was as if on Sunday they finally realized they had failed at basic service quality standards. A dry clean room would be one of them. I will never set foot on a cruise run by them ever again !! I will be posting my experience on trip advisor because the public needs to be aware. I guarantee you they put some poor unsuspecting passenger back in to 2039 mold and all! This was my 11th cruise and never have I experienced conditions like this! Celestyal needs to be made aware that people pay money expecting comfort and satisfaction, they failed miserably!! Read Less

Cruise was part of a tour package and things started off well. My experience is definitely colored by the air conditioning not working in my cabin until the last night despite numerous maintenance requests. I would try to find a much smaller ship if I did it again, most ports are in small towns and getting everyoneon and off the ship is quite an adventure. Given these difficulties, they did do a fantastic job in this respect. The shore tours were for the most part amazing and were done through local guides. Service and food onboard was abysmal! You know that clear crust that forms on fried eggs if you don't clean breakfast before work? On the second day, I noticed this on them and it got progressively worse. You have no choice either you are seated, so unless you go to breakfast in groups of 10, you will be mixed with random people unless you're lucky and get a smaller table. Wait staff was always so busy cleaning, that little waiting was ever done. Very few drinks are included in you drinks included so plan on an extra 14 euros per day per person. You will also have to find a water every time you need water. Give them your card and they will bring it back with 300ml bottle. Plan on chronic dehydration or buy your own larger bottles on shore somewhere. Don't plan on having wifi even though it is technically available. It is sold a few hours at a time (no option to buy amounts of data so you can stay connected with friends and family). Not that it would help since wifi is only available in public areas, not your cabin! Read Less

3 couples travelling together, Friends who have never cruised before chose this cruise, asked us to join them. They were not impressed. Very disappointing. Embarking/Disembarking was a smooth efficient process, Everything else was a struggle. - We purchased a Gold refreshment package because we like our Wines. It turned out that all wines served were Greek wines, of very low quality ) and we only found 1 available that was a premium wine that the 6 of us enjoyed. This premium wine was on the menu at ever bar on board, but it was only available at one bar. So we spent our entire cruise arguing with servers telling them there was stock at the one bar and the servers need to go get it. -When you buy the all inclusive drink package, Greek Draft Beer is offered, all others are additional cost. All the servers wander around the ship picking up empty glasses, no one during the entire cruise asked us if we would like a drink, when we stopped a server and asked her for drinks, she told us to go to the bar. So we spent the entire cruise fetching our own drinks, waiting in line at the bars that were usually under staffed. One morning we asked the bartender for a Mimosa, he tried to give us Low quality sparkling wine, We had to insist on a premium quality sparkling wine with orange juice. She wanted to argue with us that it was an additional cost, We stated we had the gold package and the other bartender argues with her in front of us that she is to go get the premium wine. The final result was that they gave us the premium sparkling wine with cheap orange drink out of a Tetra package, not orange juice. Because we did not have formal wear on captains night they would not allow us into the only dining area serving dinner until after the Captains dinner party, We ate at 9:30 p.m. If you sleep in , you do not get breakfast. Breakfast in the Dining Room ends at 9:00 a.m. There is breakfast at the aft dining area but the food was cold ,stale and no longer looked appetizing and it closed at 9:30 a.m. We went on a shore excursion in Santorini, It took an hour to get to our destination, 40 minutes back to the ship , 1 hour in town. ( Imagine 40 buses trying to get into a small tourist area that only had one lane in most of the town). There is a card on every dining room table offering premium Steak or Seafood for an additional fee, Don't fall for it. not worth the additional cost. Poor communication between the ships staff and the passengers. Everyone we talked to agreed with us that if you have ever done an American Cruise ship, you will be disappointed with Celestyal. The cabin appeared to be clean but it was taken by acarous, I required to take alergy pills. The food quality and variety was moderate to poor and you could find similar things at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The people who wanted to sell drinks arrived like downties any time you took a sit in the public áreas. The Mikonos trip was the best thing. The Heraklium trip was fine. The Santorini trip was 1 your and 40 minutes around the non interesting sites in the island in a bus and then 40 minutes in the best place to rush for a picture without oportunities to drink or eat something nor shopping, I seriously recommend to explore better alternatives to have a good time in the island. The entertainment alternatives in the ship were seriously boring. The ship shops were very expensive, even the sales. Some of the ship staff look extremely Sade. Read Less

I'm writing this review, (something I never do), because it was difficult to find anything recent about this ship and cruise. It's true one books this vessel only for transportation to some beautiful Greek Islands but had I known in advance how poorly the ship is maintained and operated, a fishing boat would have been preferable. The food was bad, even the deserts, in both the dining and buffet rooms. Consequently the Aura Grill was a favored location (serves lunch only) offering hot dogs and pizza. I enjoy Greek food and sampled many offerings in our pre cruise stay for 3 says in Athens. With the exception of fresh vegetables and fruits, the food offerings were terrible in taste and presentation. The buffet is a mad house and disorganized. The restaurant is less so, however there is open seating and limited menu items. Our two meals in the dining room shared a table with pleasant fellow passengers that did not speak English and unfortunately we are not bilingual. On the third attempt, we requested to sit at an English speaking table and rudely denied. The refusal to accommodate is something that one who travels often is accustomed to experiencing without issue. It was the rudeness and argumentative nature displayed by the dining room host that was completely unacceptable. Tipping is required regardless of the caliber of service with no option. Unfortunately this meant that he was tipped the same as other attentive ship personnel. The attitude at the excursion and reception/customer service desk was negative as well. We have traveled on international cruise ships before and have never experienced such a lack of hospitality. A good aspect was that our cabin steward, and all spa service providers, were exceptional in their friendliness and willingness to assist/answer questions. The itinerary is exciting however there is little time in one place for a true experience. The Greek island highlight, Santorini, does not dock until 4:00 p.m.,, and uses tenders to transport passengers to and from the ship. This leaves only about 3 hours for an excursion and some of it in our case, in October, is without daylight. This is known in advance by the ships excursion desk yet the excursion is sold to include the volcano visit that never transpires due to lack of time on the Island. Our tour guide acknowledged this to be true. Passengers that asked for partial refund were either ignored or told to contact their travel agent after the cruise. One of the excursions that we purchased for touring at another island was cancelled while we were waiting to disembark for it. This left no time to select another. The cruise director, Bruno, was not certain why and inquiring at the excursion desk was of no help. The response was " this happens sometimes". Note to elderly passengers or those with mobility concerns... even the excursions given the lowest rating for physical requirement were demanding. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing. This is acceptable for the more formal dining room also. A captains night is observed on one evening and though the days agenda reads that attire is more formal, few observed this. After long days sometimes at two islands in one day, few even change clothing for dinner. I packed far too many clothing items thinking that it would be like evenings experienced with other cruises lines. Experiencing the beauty of the Greek Islands is breath taking and worth every moment spent there. Would I recommend this ship and cruise to another? Absolutely not. I saved the worst experience for last. My 81 year old mother had bed bug bites on her legs from sleeping on her bed in the cabin!!! Enough said. Read Less

Our first cruise - never again. The ship is old, tired and should be ditched. We did a cruise round some of the Greek Islands. They couldn't get into Patmos. At Mykonos we only had two hours and for most of that it was dark, Santorini was so crowded it was like a conga line around the town. The cabin was OK, but very small and airless. There was no room for two cases, except on the floor. The crew were very pleasant but looked and acted like they were overworked. The food was poor, pretty much the same every day. They took so long checking us in we never got the emergency briefing at the beginning so we had no idea what we would need to if there was an emergency. The personal/medical form which we were told was so important to have completed was never requested. Several times we wanted to find a quiet space just to sit and read - no chance, everywhere was so noisy with loud music. We were charged 20 Euro for wifi which didn't work for most of the time (who charges for wifi now?). When I asked about the wifi I was told it was either the bad weather or the satellite was down - REALLY ?? We were sadly disappointed and we really feel we wasted our $'s and five days of our holiday. NEVER. NEVER again would we we use Celestyal. Read Less

We were very disappointed with this cruise. The cabin was very shabby with holes filled in the walls but not painted over, carpet was stained and curtains were thread bare and would not close properly. In the bathroom the shower showed rust and the grout in the floor kept falling out. There was obviously some problem with the drainage system as the carpet in the passage was stained outside several cabins and there was a suction pump being used and also a blower operating to dry the carpet. The cabin staff were very friendly and did the best they could with what they had to work with. There was a lack of information on the islands that were visited prior to the shore excursions. The food was very average and the wine poor although the staff were friendly and helpful. As a whole the ship was very old and tired and needs a complete makeover. Altogether not a very good experience for our first cruise, we would not recommend it to anybody. Although we didn't enjoy the ship we loved the Greek Islands and explored them ourselves via taxi or on foot rather than the cruise shore excursions. Read Less

It is clear that this ship needs a full makeover before it would become pleasant to sail on, it was not a good experience for our first cruise. There was a newsletter each day detailing what activities there were on board but no information about the various islands visited except to list the tours. The on shore excursions were very expensive, we did some ourselves by taxi which worked out well. While we enjoyed the Greek Islands we would not recommend this cruise at all. Read Less

We departed from Mykenos and in the three days on the ship, we visited Kusadasi, Turkey, Patmos, Rhodes, and Crete. We disembarked at Santorini. We took excursions at Kusadasi and on Crete, and found them to be well-organized, albeit quite pricey. This was the third cruise we took as a family of four (10- and 17-year olds) and by far this was the least satisfying of the three. First, some general thoughts. 1) Other than our cabin steward, the crew always looked and acted as if they were utterly miserable. That air of unhappiness in infectious. It was a rather stunning contrast to the other cruises we've taken. 2) The cruise line nickel and dimes you to an extreme. 12 euro for a key for the safe in your cabin? Really? 6 euro for an hour of Wi-Fi. It offers a unlimited drink plan, but when I went to buy it for one day for alcoholic drinks, I was informed that my wife and kids had to sign up for the non-alcoholic drink plan, which all together came out to about 70 euro for one day. 3) The food was generally dreadful, though the tea-time cookies and other treats were quite tasty. If you wanted something slightly nicer, like shrimp or steak, it was 15 euros extra and up. 4) The entertainment was subpar at best. On that last point, the first of two specifics: A part of one evening's entertainment, the New Amsterdam Singers, were a well-meaning group of 70 New Yorkers all 50-years and up. Were it Christmas time, and were the audience the same age as the singers, they may have been an apt choice. But that wasn't the case, and I'd say 30% of the audience took a walk. My daughter sings choir, so I soldiered on. Their song choices included Christian hymns which didn't bother me at all as I am Christian, but I could certainly see that bothering others in the audience. At one point, the octogenarian troupe leader announced one of the songs as a traditional "negro working song" which, again, was an accurate description of the song, but overly sensitive people could easily have been offended. Just not a good choice by Bruno the cruise director and his staff. My second specific is quite a bit more troubling. At the beginning of the cruise I registered a credit card so we could make payments on our cruse pass card. At the end of the cruise we were informed that we had to provide a credit card for payments. I asked how we could have possibly made all the purchases that we did on the cruse card if a credit card was not registered. They had no answer for that other than to say something happened to the system. When I asked what I should do if those charges ended up showing up on my credit card statement on top of the charges we payed for the sending time with another card, the representative had no answer to that either. Overall, I would take serious pause if you are considering taking a cruise on any Celestyal Cruise ship. Read Less

Customer service was the worst I've experienced on any cruise or vacation - cruise employees were not interested in helping us solve issues (see list of issues below). The food was really, really bad. And only available at select meal times instead of 24/7 as we'd expect. If we missed a meal because we were enjoying ourselves at the port city, then we had to pay for something sub-par at the one bar we could find still serving food. The pools were drained the first night and closed every night. And there was no hot tub. The entertainment on the ship was embarrassing - so so bad. The one excursion we booked was canceled during the trip, which was disappointing and frustrating. We have yet to receive a refund for that. We paid for an upgraded room to be able to move our beds together, but the beds were unmovable and in an L shape. Nice way to have a romantic getaway - having to sleep head to toe with my boyfriend?! Mold in the shower and on the shower curtain - not cleaned well enough obviously. Ship overall was horribly outdated - not updates whatsoever. The spa was next to the casino - which allowed smoking inside!!! Definitely opted OUT of a massage which would have been accompanied by slot machine music. Overall - I would never, ever recommend Celestyal Cruises to anyone. Read Less

This cruise was recommended to me by my travel agent, based on the reviews and based on the excursions the cruise offered. It was meant to be a way to get around and to visit multiple islands in a short time as a great excursion experience. As the professional reviews noted, this is an old ship. Nothing has really been done to update it, except for the hand rails being painted (I could only tell the rails were painted because of the “wet paint do not touch” signs on deck during our cruise). The 80's brass and decor is in evidence everywhere. We had an outside cabin with a window on Deck 4. The bathroom was small and the shower was even smaller. The water would leak everywhere onto the bathroom floor during showers. They provided mass squeeze shampoo and body wash, but I wasn't particularly impressed. If you like washcloths, bring your own. The food was nothing to be impressed about, many times not even worth eating. For some reason the cruise line thinks it is appropriate and acceptable to have the restaurant open during the time of excursions, but closed when you are actually on the ship. The Bar & Grill restaurant on Deck 9 is only open for 1 hour each day. With all that said, the restaurant staff was the best group/department on the ship. They tried their very best to be helpful and accommodating based on the very little resources they are provide with to do their job from the cruise line. The Food/Bar staff works hard to make things pleasant. I have no complaints regarding our cabin stewards. They were very pleasant and work hard. We prepaid for all of our excursions and had one booked at every port, which was a huge mistake. We arrived to Mykonos waiting outside on the port for our excursion, with no direction. After about 30 mins of waiting on the port for someone to help us (keep in mind the stops at each port are very short, only a few hours), we managed to find the Assistant Manager, and asked her about our excursion and what we need to do. She was, to say the very least, rude and not at all helpful. She proceeded to blame us for the excursion being cancelled, due to lack of participation (how is that our fault?). We proceeded to ask her what we now needed to do to tour the island, as we were confused and uninformed about the cancellation. In front of everyone on the port began to scream at us stating she is “not our slave” and “everyone on the island speaks English - ask them what to do.” She further continued to blame us, stating it is our responsibility to know if our excursion is cancelled. We proceeded to tell her before leaving the cruise ship we tried to speak with someone at the excursions desk, but they said they can’t help as the desk is closed, when we went to the reception they told us they don’t know anything. She continued to blame us and other departments of the ship and said “Well the housekeeper should tell you…Reception doesn’t know anything… ”. Rather than trying to help us all she did was yell, scream and push blame on irrelevant people and departments. We finally set out to explore the island by ourselves. Upon our return we spoke with the Manager of Shore Excursions about the issue. We asked to speak with her alone, but she refused and said I am aware of everything as I was present. That left us completely confused, because if she was indeed present why did she not assist us on the island, rather than watch her staff humiliate us like that? Anyway, we proceeded to explain the situation to her and inquired about a refund for our excursion. She again refused to assist us and instead of listening to us blamed us for the ordeal. She further called us liars about what happened. She insisted that the way we were treated by her Assistant Manager was warranted because we were the problem. It was absolutely unprofessional and uncalled for. Needless to say nothing was resolved and NO REFUND was discussed, as they said we have to talk to our agent. Excursion #2 was also cancelled “Due to Lack of Participation” however this time they slid a note under our cabin door informing us. We again went to the Shore Excursion Office and spoke regarding our options. Again a replay of the rudeness from the previous day. She basically said we can join another excursion on the island since ours was cancelled. We asked her how that works since we prepaid for ours. Would they refund us for ours and charge us for the new as all excursions are priced different? She snapped and said even exchange. We basically prepaid for particular excursions that they took money for and did not receive the service we paid for. By the end of our cruise, we still had not been able to get refund the cancelled excursion, in addition we literally got cheated by them providing us with even exchanges with excursions that cost a lot less than our cancelled excursions. By the last day we were completely annoyed and I asked for my refund for the cancelled Mykonos excursion. This is just the quick version of how were treated. The idea behind this cruise was to see various Greek islands in a short span of time and not entertain yourself on a cruise ship. However, the cruise ship provided neither, and was quite expensive for the lack of services they provided. Frankly, there isn't very much to do on the ship, and the Excursions department ensures you don’t enjoy your time on the islands and basically takes your money and not provides you the service. The only thing I enjoyed about this cruise was the day I disembarked and I still have not received my refunds for all my cancelled excursions or an apology from the cruise line about how horribly we were treated even though we paid quite a bit of money for the cruise. Very unprofessional and untrained excursion staff. I would not recommend this cruise line to anyone. Overall, were it not for the lack of customer service and if they can get there excursion department organized, then the cruise line is a good option to use as a means of transportation to see various islands in a short span of time.
