This cruise was highly recommended by several friends who had done many scenic and other cruises. Obviously scenic came out on top and this was the cruise we chose - with absolutely no regrets. The fact that we had to change ships because of low water levels only added to the adventure. The next down side was the comparison of ships. The Jasper was every bit as luxurious as anticipated, but the Jade was older, a little more tired and our wardrobes not as friendly! ( in need of some maintenance!) but overall it was the people on board who made it. The crew on the Jasper spoilt us to the extent that the crew on the Jade needed a day or so to catch up - and they did. Our cruise director Szylvia was an exceptional bonus and an absolute gem. She made our trip the 5 star success it was. The organisation, communication and management of such a large group of people in a situation which was sometimes stressful was amazing. Most of us got sick (colds) and changing boats etc was all managed with smooth seamless efficiency. Szylvia made our trip. Thank you. The food was great and everything supplied in abundance. We are already planning our next cruise. Thank you again. Read Less

We loved the length of the trip...18 days. When you have a long flight you want a long itinerary. The staff was friendly and attentive. Most of the excursions were top notch. Staff was constantly at work to make sure everything was as clean as possible. Musicians and dancers who were brought onboard were very talented and we enjoyed them very much. Unfortunately the dance floor is so tiny when there was a disco night you were taking your life in your hands trying to dance. Food was good, dinner was for the most part fine. I thought the choices at the buffet lunch were more interesting but that's just me. Enjoyed the excursions we went on but one. It was to a winery. The guide sent some of us down to the cellars in a large elevator, the rest took a stairs. When we got there the guide and the rest of the group were no where to be seen. We struck out in the dark caverns on our own just trying to get out. We finally made it about 5 minutes before the bus was to leave. So we got no tour nor the wine tasting. Not up to Scenic's usual standards. It was an odd venue. Cruise director Sylvia was very efficient. Read Less

Our second river cruise and also with Scenic. This time on the Rhine from Amsterdam to Basel rather that the Danube. We have also done river cruises on the Mississippi, the Amazon and the St Lawrence as well as 20 ocean cruises However although we enjoyed our cruise overall I am not convinced that river cruising in Europe is about style over substance and because of that it was over 6 years since our cruise on the Danube. To start the pre-cruise administration lacks a lot of detail such as when you are going to be in a port/location and how long you will be there which means you can't really organise your visits particularly if there are things you want to see or do in a particular town or stop. Also information on all tours is not available until aboard ship. Yes tours may be included and a highlight of your itinerary but I like to plan my shore time. On board service is mixed with some very helpful and efficient staff with others just doing a job albeit diligently. It was most annoying to find that on our last full day the complimentary ironing service was not available and that bath robes had been removed - presumably to prepare for the next cruise - and without any notice. After all we had paid for the full cruise! The Jasper has three restaurants/cafes and a fourth if you count Table la Rive (only available by invitation) but the food is of variable quality and quantity. The evening a la carte menu had some of the smallest plate portions I have ever seen - mushroom tempura being one small mushroom on a bed of puree!? The food could also be warmer and there are no choices of side vegetables although there are some standard off-menu items available. Portobellos is an Italian restaurant available to all but is more theatre than culinary with the waiters all claiming to be from Italy and the food being pretty standard Italian fayre. White and Rose wines in the restaurants are not always cold enough. As wine is served throughout the restaurant by the glass the bottles are not returned to the fridge/ice bucket while waiting for someone else to request that wine. Breakfast and lunch are buffet style and here again the food could be warmer. Until I complained the plates were also cold although plate warmers were available but not switched on. At breakfast there was only one egg/omelette station sometimes resulting in long queues although the chef was very efficient and kept calm under pressure. Entertainment on board is low key with a permanent singer/keyboard player most nights supplemented by guest performers, sometimes if cruising during the afternoon. Unfortunately our musician, Enzo, was very poor. The guest Irish folk singer(Norman?) was very good and the crew band were also good. Tours were reasonable with app hearing devices which were good but sometime the guides were not very informative other than of what they wished to talk about e.g. no mention of free town tour trains or other city highlights. Also we visited Strasbourg on a Sunday when just about everything was closed yet we were taken ashore at 8.30am. The actual guided tour lasted just over 1 hour and we were then left 2 hours free time in a deserted Strasbourg. To be balanced there are however a number of good aspects: spacious (unlike standard suites) Junior Suites with Scenic Sun Lounge, free mini-bar, butler service, leisurely cruising, ship berthing close to most city centres. Also the tours app could be used along the river to point out and narrate points of interest. Darinka our Cruise Director was always available and tried to be helpful but she did seem to treat us as schoolchildren and tended to use 10 words when one would do. The cruise along the Rhine was interesting but apart from the section of the gorge where all the castles are it is not overall as scenic as the Danube. In conclusion although Scenic and other river cruise lines claim to provide 5* luxury and gourmet dining with flexible itineraries that give you the freedom to pick and choose how you spend your time ashore I remain unconvinced and don't think they live up to those claims. Joined friends on a Christmas Market River Cruise. We had booked two nights pre cruise and two nights post cruise in local hotels.Three days before we left home, Scenic changed our hotel from a 5 Star to a 3.5 star hotel. the business office insisted that this was considered an upgrade for us. The two nights were over $650. USD Embarkation as well as disembarkation were very smooth. The cruise director, Richard Gray, could not have been more accommodating. The ship is Lovely, and the cabin adequate. The service level is very high. All the staff were top notch. As there are drought conditions in Europe, the River levels can be an issue. We were prepared pre-cruise, that there could be an alternate itinerary. As it turned out this cruise was the first all season,to make the entire cruise on the river. There is much hype about their special pillows. Problem was that they ran out of the special down pillows on the first day. There is also much hype with regards to the cuisine. They should tone that down a bit. The buffets are good. Much selection for breakfast and lunch. You also have an option of ordering of a "special menu". Menu items were not freshly prepared. In general there is an issue of cold food. If there is a special menu offering Eggs Benedict, it is a reasonable expectation that the dish will be freshly prepared. That was not the case. The eggs were cold and overcooked. The food needs help. Read Less

Friends choose this cruise. The ship was in very good condition, and the rooms were large for a river cruise and well laid out, shower was good sized. Good points regarding the cruise: Good ports and high quality excursion guides Breakfast and Lunch were easy to serve yourself and there was an abundance of food The local entertainment on the ship was well done, offered on 2 evenings Two concerts that were very well done Truly all inclusive The notes below are observations, please take them as such. Poor points regarding the cruise (some of these will not apply to you, they did to us) Before the cruise Scenic did not communicate with us in regards to changing the ship,(we were originally on the Amber which is one year newer) our documents arrived late (this didn't really matter since you didn't need to have them to get on the ship) and the water was so low that we did not get to one of the ports (they seem to be okay with this it was just a quirk of the river level, however we had paid for insurance for just this reason and were not given a chance to back out and had called repeatedly to ask for updates) The cabin - see below Dining - as a vegetarian I was disappointed in the dinner food. The service was slow and the staff in the dining room was lacking in training. I am not sure with all the changes in itinerary was helpful. The food case at the bar never looked like the pictures. They had an evening meal for each of us in another section and it was called the Portofino restaurant -- the service and food there were excellent and the levet we had expected the entire cruise to be at Director -- He was great, but the constant changes were difficult to keep up with Shore excursions -- these were mainly overview of each area. The concert was lovely, however it had been moved and the dancers were on the main level with the seating so if you a few rows back it was difficult to see. We had an organ concert that was exceptional Public rooms -- these were very nice, however there was really no where in the evening for a group who would like to play cards, you couldn't use the dining room and often the entertainment was loud. All in all, having been on other river cruises I was not as impressed as I had hoped to be for the additional price. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had sailed on Scenic before and had a memorable experience. This particular cruise was a adventure. We were warned prior to the cruise that there was low water levels on the Danube and we might have to do a transfer which was fine. On September 22 we were given notice that the ship would not procede past Regensburg and there was a option for passengers to return home and a number did leave. We elected to stay. That night we received an undated and unsigned letter stating we were eligible for some refunds because of an itinerary change. The refunds came into effect on September 23 we were told, nothing in writing. On The night of September 23 we were given two options, go home or go on buses and stay in hotels and end up in Budapest but they only had hotels for Monday night and no further guarantees because of Oktoberfest. We elected to go home at that point and most other passengers left on the buses. Monday at around 11 am they announced they were moving the ship and we were basically given the option to stay on board or get off. We had no return flight so stayed on board and cancelled our request to home. As it was the river rose on Monday and Monday night so we starting sailing through the low water area early Tuesday morning. The passengers who were busing came back on late Tuesday night. Some had a great time and some not we were told. Our experience on board was great because there was only 35 of us. My wife and I enjoyed the holiday and did not miss all the bus rides and changing in hotels. My point here is that Scenic did not handle the problem well and I believe they knew from the beginning they had no ship available for us to transfer to and should have been up front. Due to Scenics uncertainty as to what they were going to do and offer, it affected decisions and we missed out on some tours. Yes we would travel scenic again but not spring and fall when water levels may be a issue. Read Less

The ship was beautiful. The common rooms were large and inviting! The restaurant food was good 3.5/4 out of 5, but the waitstaff was amazing!!!! The food presentation was lovely! The portions were good sized, meaning non-American portions which was a good thing! The alcohol was top brands and a nice to even a heavy pour. The wine was lovely at every meal. The dining experience was great! The staff made every effort to help you find a wine you liked at dinner, but usually this wasn't necessary as their picks were terrific. Our boat was approx 1/4 Australians, 1/4 Americans, 1/4 Canadians and 1/4 Brits. It was a great mix and we loved meeting people from all over! The excursions were great! One negative was that I would have appreciated less time on a bus to get to a destination for an excursion. Sometimes up to 2 hours each way. When we were in Vienna, instead of touring Vienna we bussed an hour or so away. We had time to explore Vienna on our own time, but it would have been nice to have a guided tour. Another great thing: E Bikes! So one day the boat cruised for 22 miles / 35 km and passengers had the option of riding with guides that distance using Ebikes! They were great, even though the terrain was fairly level, if you fell a little behind, you could turn on the battery feature and speed up to catch up! Also, one thing to consider when thinking about a river cruise. Water level. We didn't think of this. The Danube is a shallow river and when we hit the port of Passau, Germanry, we were grounded. The Danube was only 30 cm deep as Europe was experiencing a bit of a draught. We couldn't finish the cruise. So we stayed in Passau instead of continuing onto Regensburg and Nuremberg. The staff are great when this happens and they just go with it, but for the passengers, it's kind of a disappointment! One reason we chose this line is that it was an all inclusive. No tipping, no charge for excursions, alcohol, etc. You know.... There truly were no additional charges. They did have massage therapist on staff as well as some spa items, but it wasn't really pushed or advertised. Evening entertainment was a wonderful pianist who entertained those who stuck around in the lounge. A couple of nights, the cruise company brought in local dancing talents which was fun to see. This is our second cruise on Scenic. We cruised on the Scenic Amber last year down the Danube and it was wonderful. This years cruise on the Jasper down the Rhine was very good BUT......... not as good as last year. Last year Scenic used their own buses for the entire cruise. This year the contracted out to local bus companies. The service was spotty. Some were very good and right on time, some were just ok and ran late. The transfer service from Zurich to the ship was poor. Scenic told us to arrive in Zurich no later than 1:00 PM. Most international flights arrive early morning. When we got our final paperwork 3 weeks before the start of the cruise we were told airport pickup would not be until 2:00PM. This ment we would have to sit in the baggage area in the airport for 5 hours (after an 8 hour flight). After several emails and phone calls, Scenic provided a van for us and 3 other couples. It was an extremely uncomfortable 2 hour ride. The rest of the passengers all arrived at the same time on 3 buses. Not well planned. The service seemed to be out of sinc. Not as smooth as our previous cruise. The food was definitely not 5 star gourmet. Breakfast and lunch were buffet style. The food was no better than good. Dinners were better but not “5 star”. An 8 day - 7 night cruise is actually a 6 day cruise since days 1 & 8 are travel days. Unless you see 2 days in the first port, don’t expect to see much of that stop unless you plan on a pre or post cruise stay.. Read Less

This was our first taste of river cruising and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! We met many new friends on the cruise from different countries and hope to keep in touch. The Jasper ship was very comfortable and luxurious. Bathrooms were spacious and great water pressure and hot water! Our assigned butler for our suite was even able to provide a one time complimentary laundry service: picked up and delivered to our room. We booked a deluxe balcony suite on the second level that had a large window that could be lowered and raised with the touch of a button! Great way to enjoy the beautiful scenery from our balcony and to hear the waves lap along the ship from the comfort and privacy of our room. Dining was all inclusive with much variety at the breakfast and lunch buffet. You could also order certain items off the menu. The dining room waiters/waitresses worked hard to please the guests. However, we did notice that certain tables received more attention than others. The head waiter was always friendly and if he noticed someone was not receiving what they needed, he would be there immediately to provide the required service. Each guest also had an invitation to the Italian Porto Bella restaurant, a private sit-down dinner for a small group with choices from a set menu. Delicious! My husband and I are foodies and we love fine wine. There were some excellent wines served but there were also some mediocre ones. The highlight of our tour was our e-bike cycling tour and the reception and private performance at the Rastatt palace from two very talented opera singers! Local English-speaking tour guides for our shore excursions were very knowledgeable about the history and culture of their villages and people. In terms of scenery, Strasbourg was our favorite city. We also enjoyed the spa services onboard and the massage we received from an excellent therapist. He certainly got rid of the sore neck and shoulders I received from our flight from Canada to Europe. Overall, a very memorable trip and we are now hooked on river cruising! We look forward to a future Scenic cruise. Read Less

We wanted a five star experience to celebrate our birthdays and wedding anniversary. The decor and rooms lived up to our expectations. Clean and modern designs. The staff overall were attentive and helpful. What let the experience down was the food. It was not five star or near, at times the food was served cold or just warm not hot. Presentation of food could have been more imaginative and better put together. After a number of complaints from different people the food in regards temperature did improve. I am not that bothered for sweet food, which was just as well as the menu was limited. It would not take a lot to improve the menu and dining experience. The beverages were fine, plenty of choice of good wines. I enjoyed the tours and had no complaints regarding these. Would I book again with Scenic, yes, but I would look for last minute deals. We paid full price for this cruise which in my opinion given the food was over priced. Read Less

We chose Scenic in part, from a recommendation by our Travel Agent (M. Gaw of Vision Travel) and a local presentation by the company. We wanted a slightly ‘up-scale’ cruise. We liked the idea of a European river cruise to minimize our time in coaches and not having to change hotels every night or two with all that implies. The number of people on the ship was to our liking. It is a group tour done “better”. See fewer countries but at a better pace. This particular cruise fit into our dates available, length of cruise (8 days) with the 3-day Prague extension but also, the trip went to an area we have wanted to explore for some time (Austria/Czech). The flexibility of the included excursions and the availability of E-bikes were an added feature we very much liked. In addition, the help from our travel agent to make sure all the deatils were included and explained along with other factors (early arrival, organization of air travel, etc.), made our confirmation of this choice easy. The use of Marriott hotels at both locations (Budapest and Prague) were great. The whole trip, from the early arrival to departure went extremely smoothly. We were extremely happy with the Scenic Jasper ship but more importantly, in our opinion, the crew were fabulous from the cruise director through the wait staff, were the best. Our cabin was perfect for us. The quality of the food but especially the bar were ‘top-notch’ with real champagne, great domestic and imported wines and a good selection of single malt. Cabin and cruise service(s) were teriffic even if we ‘under-used’ these amenities. We met some very nice and interesting people from around the world and were happy to be on board with other French and English Canadians, people from Great Britian and the USA. The excursion choices were a treat and the ‘guides’ friendly and knowledgeable. Their local knowledge reflected pride in their contries/cities which we very much liked. For the most part, they went out of their way on each excurison to ensure we had a pleasant day. The highlight for us was the Ebike trip but it was over too soon and could use a bit of ‘tweaking’ for a better day. True, we were perhaps too many people in one group (38). It may have been better in two (or more) groups if sufficient guides were available but all in all, we really enjoyed the Ebike tour. One negative for us was the slight rush in between and during the excurisons but we understand that they wanted to cover as much as possible where we would rather see less but spend more time. While we did not travel with children (and none were on board), we would suggest that theis mode of travel would suit kids to broaden their horizons on other cultures. The Prague extension was a treat. While a rough entry to our downtown hotel due to traffic (again the Marriott), once we settled, in it was perfectly situated to explore the old town and all that it has to offer. We would definitely recommend the Prague extension. Except for the (sometimes) ‘sea of humanity’, it was still a fantastic place to visit. As you can expect, we highly recommend this trip and this company and really found little to no fault. We would definitely take another Scenic crusie to explore other areas of Europe but maybe other parts of the world. Read Less

Food was mostly good but at times steak and fish undercooked. All meals cooked on rare side. We had no choice. Alcohol was good and many choices. Our cabin very small but beds were not easy to sleep on. Twins are very narrow. Maid service was excellent. Cruise director was excellent and very organized. Massage therapist was good. We didn’t use the butler service as we had nowhere to sit to have a coffee.. Tried to upgrade but only suite left and when we went to see it it was being used to store all the dirty laundry bags. We were not prepared to spend 3500 Euros for something we couldn’t even see. The tailormades were not always reliable. Would not always charge. I would recommend Scenic as we were well looked after and the friendliness of the staff made for a great holiday. Read Less

We chose this cruise over a year ago for a 60th birthday and and 27th Anniversary celebration based on on-line reviews and advertised 5 star dining. We paid up to be on the Diamond Deck so we could participate in the "La Rive" degustation dinner experience. I'm not sure what is going on with Scenic but the food product served at dinner is 3 star at best and service is seriously understaffed. Each waiter had about 24 guests and were expected to take orders, deliver, clear tables, etc. Everyone on the ship headed down to dinner at the same time - if you came later you might never get your meal as each course is served like at a banquet. First all orders from all the waiters tables are taken before delivery to the kitchen then everyone gets their appetizer followed by soup, entree and desert. All courses need to be ordered at the same time. Several times I ordered two appetizers and no soup course but never got the second appetizer because they had moved on to the soup course. I gave up on asking because it just impacted everyone else and the rest of service. The farther your waiter was from the kitchen (which was in the back of the ship) the longer everything took as he had to keep running back and forth. There were no waitstations in the middle or front of the ship for bussing tables so waiters had to carry everything to the back of the ship. Our ship butlers also worked the restaurant at dinner but did not assist the waiters unless asked by the restaurant or hotel manager-no teamwork but seemed to be a pecking order of who did what. Our hotel and restaurant manager worked their tails off to pick up the lack and ensure customer satisfaction. They couldn't make up though for the poor quality food products, most apparent in seafood products which were often just inedible. Fish filets OK but very thin. We were hesitant to order anything with seafood after the first couple experiences. Shrimp dishes were these tiny overcooked, frozen product with maybe 1 or 2 slightly larger prawns. If a dish said lobster, you needed a magnifying glass to find it. The two delightful ladies serving wine and drinks also served beverages in the lounge at all other times. They each worked half of the dining room so had about 80 guests each to serve. The hotel and restaurant manager went overboard to try to make our experience better once we had expressed our preferences but their hands were tied by the poor food products provided by Scenic. Not a good area to try to cut costs as dining is a big part of any cruise. We have been on many ocean cruises and never had such hit and miss food experiences. La Rive was supposed to be a degustation experience so we schedule for the 60th birthday celebration. To start, we were served about 1/4 glass of champagne - we had to ask to get a full glass which took some time because they evidently had to find and open another bottle. We were served an entire small boiled potato about the size of an egg with a teeny portion of caviar on top as our amuse bouche. Really - a boiled potato? There were three items on the next plate which we were told accounted for three of our courses. Although there was a foie gras item, it was only about 1/2 bite. We all had the filet for entree which was very good and saved the meal. The staff and cruise director did serve a very nice birthday cake and gave my husband a box of chocolates which was very nice and fun. I would not pay up again to be on the Diamond Deck just to dine at La Rive. The table is at the back of the main restaurant so nothing special there. There is nothing very special about the food; diners in the main restaurant were also served filet although it was described as beef tenderloin. It was hard to hear the butlers describing food items. Portabello's dining was for the anniversary celebration. This is held in the area in front of the bar in the lounge. One of us ordered the seafood pasta which we had to send back - the seafood tasted terrible. Again, a very nice cake and anniversary celebration. it was nice to sit somewhere besides the dining room. The cruise director, Cathy, was fabulous. She was very organized and helpful to all. The tours and special experiences were great. Although we did like the Salzburg tour and Sound of Music experience, I'm not sure we'd go again as it was 2 hours there and 2 hours back in a bus. We would also like to have stayed longer at some of the ports either before or after our tours to have more free time then we were given to explore on our own. FYI, tours generally leave after breakfast around 9 then back to ship for lunch and maybe an hour or so free time if you didn't have it already after the tour. Then the ship would leave sometime in the afternoon. Or we would dock late morning, have lunch on ship then take the tour. Seldom long days like on an ocean cruise. Lunch and Breakfast are Buffett. Egg station at breakfast and carving station at lunch. Good wines available anytime. Gym is very small. No weight equipment to speak of. Yoga at 7AM only in the lounge. We enjoyed our Deluxe Balcony room in the center of the ship and the enclosed balcony window that could be lowered in good weather. It made the cabin seem bigger. The closet doors slid over each other so you couldn't open one without closing the other. Seemed like we were constantly sliding the doors back and forth. Nice L'Occitane products. We heard complaints from guests at the back of the ship in the Royal Panorama Suites that they were often disturbed by engine noise into the night. We had some early morning noise when crew was setting up chairs on the top deck above us. Don't know why they couldn't have done this work after we left the ship for our tours instead of early morning. We'd skip Diamond Deck if we were to take Scenic again as upcharge wasn't worth the product delivered. As Scenic was more expensive then other similar cruises, I'm not sure I could recommend to a friend unless the food product and staffing issues at dinner are addressed. Evening dining is a big part of the cruise experience for us. I would like to go to dinner when I want to, be served as though i were in a restaurant not as though I were at a convention banquet where everyone is served the same course at the same time. Scenic could take lessons from Windstar which has ocean ships with similar customer capacity yet is able to serve excellent restaurant style meals and service at three venues nightly. Read Less

Did the cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam in a junior suite. Embarking and Dis embarking easy. PROS: The butlers are awesome. Very polite, professional and on the ball. We had 2 meals were they served us, and they are fantastic. The ship was near new and the room excellent. Good bed. The house keeping was great. Room very clean. A couple of the special meals were excellent (the ones served by the butlers. I cant help but think that the chefs put in more effort for these meals compared to the normal day to day meals. Good selection of wine, beer and spirits included in package. The views are spectacular. Sitting on the top deck watching the Danube and Rhine River scenery roll by is fantastic. The push bikes. great fun to take out for a ride along the river bank. The on board gym while very small is good. There is a walking track on the top deck and a small pool. NEITHER HERE OR THERE: Buffet and other meals were a mixture of good to only average. Sometimes mains not hot, and wait staff didn't keep the buffet platters topped up. Despite some really good meals, the failures in other meals really drag dining down. Ships crew not always friendly. said hello a couple of times and got a hello back. Other times they just looked at you and ignored you. And it wasn't a language issue. Many of the on shore excursions are aimed at the older market which didn't suit me or my wife. But this is a personal observation and the older person may think the excursions are great. CONS: The wait staff were understaffed and under trained. Service was slow at times or non- existent. On a couple of occasions the waiters were just rude. In fact if we had of being at a on shore restaurant, we would have got up and walked out. And yes we did complain to the Tour Director. While some of the waiters were very good ( so it is a shame to include a couple of them in this assessment) overall the performance of the waiters was poor. i put it down to not having enough staff, inexperience and some of them who just didn't want to be there. I believe things would have been worse if a new Tour Director , Frank, hadn't come on board after a few days. But the damage had been done and even though service improved, it still wasn't the 5 star Scenic markets itself as. Waiter service overall 3 stars. Just not good enough. The final nights hotel that Scenic put us up in Amsterdam is not a luxury hotel. The rooms were standard, and i believe would struggle to scrap a 4 star rating. Given the price point of this cruise and the expectations of people going on this cruise, it felt cheap. While i have given this cruise 4 stars, i want to caveat that with the issue of the wait staff service which really dragged things down. Overall 3 stars for the Service category is generous. A couple of really good waiters and the excellent Butlers dragged the Service category rating up to 3 stars. Read Less

We choose scenic for For the inclusiveness, excursions, meals, tipping, a more luxury experience. The cabin was quite comfortable (modern), cozy yet classy - the showers were amazing. It was also nice not to have to arrange inland tours and/or meals. The excursions gave you excellent overview of areas and enough free time to do a little independent exploring and shopping. The time options for on board meals were flexible. Not to mention the most excellent cappuccino machine named "Christine" ha, ha, ha Having the "plated" and served evening meals were a nice touch for a more gourmet experience and one was not tempted to over indulge with buffet!!!! The staff was extremely helpful and genuinely friendly. Don't be scared to take a down day from excursions. Don't forget to take full advantage of the sun deck, it's quite an expierence to sail through the countryside and sometimes neighbourhoods. I definately would do another river cruise (different destinations though) Read Less

This was our third cruise with Scenic and the second time we did this particular cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest. Our cabin on the Diamond deck was excellent as was the food and the facilities, all to Scenic's previous standards. We thoroughly enjoyed our "Sound of Music" concert and the concert at the Palais Liechtenstein in Vienna. We also visited Bratislava on this occasion, which added another layer of experience to the overall enjoyment of this trip. What I found though was that there seems to have been a drop in standards, i.e. the behaviour of a certain percentage of the passengers. I suspect that this is due to Scenic offering free flights, which may be attracting some groups out for a free for all. A good case in point was the first Evening at the buffet dinner, when a few dozen people fell upon the offerings and some became aggressive when someone else simply wanted to make their way along the table. This behaviour was distasteful to say the least. The waiting staff were fantastic and went out of their way to please and interact with the passengers. The cruise director was a bit longwinded and was not always concise with her explanations of the next day's offerings and often confused people to whom I spoke with. I also noticed that the coach trips to get from the ship to an activity also seemed to be quite long in a number of instances, as the ship seemed to dock further away from these activities. This was after all a cruise with shore activities, not a coach trip with a cruise included. On the last morning, I was also disappointed that our luggage was taken off the ship and left outside for over three hours prior to our transfer to the airport. Although the luggage was being attended to, the weather was becoming inclement. Luckily we managed to have it put on our transfer mini coach just as it started raining. Overall, we enjoyed this cruise as we were a group of twelve who became acquainted with each other, from the 22 day coach trip of Majestic Britain and Ireland, prior to joining the cruise on Jasper. We selected Scenic because of the space we wanted and the length of time of the cruise. We were extremely happy with most everything. Our only drawback was that we selected the Royal Panorama Suite, actually the roomiest suite on the boat (there are only 2) and the suite itself was lovely HOWEVER these 2 suites are directly over the Scenic Jasper's 2 ton motors and when the boat is in transit, going thru locks, docking...whenever it is active, our suite was very noisy and really shook. The things on our night tables were on the floor by morning. We figured out how to modify this with earplugs and putting wash cloths in the doors, so they wouldn't shake...but, if possible, Scenic should do something to erase this problem or they should tell you when you book. Honestly, the people who take care of you are superb, so this is difficult to report. The entertainment that Simona booked for us was wonderful and different. And the excursions were great fun. We would go again, though we'd check the location of our suite more carefully. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of our wonderful experience with Scenic Tours. The ship (the Jasper) was beautiful. Our butler Harry was perfect! The dining, service staff was mostly excellent. A couple of the servers couldn't locate the wines we requested from the list offered and poured us wine we didn't want, saying "Trust me, you'll love it." On the last day one of our table mates suggested we ask our butler to find the wines and of course Harry brought the right ones right away. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. The excursions were excellent. The only reason I rated them only "Good" was not Scenic's fault. A couple of ships belonging to other cruise lines damaged a loch and we had to leave our ship and take buses here and there for a couple of days. We missed a day in Vienna which was a big deal for me. However Scenic Cruises and our Tour Director really worked hard to make sure we still had a wonderful time. We were a little disappointed in that we thought this would be a more active cruise. We like to get in at least several miles of walking a day, but do to logistics, cuing up for Bathroom Breaks and escorted tours, we never met that goal. When you reach the days destination, you can go off on your own but my husband wanted to take the tours. So again this was not Scenic's fault. The Entertainment was first class. On board or at special locations (palace and castle) we were treated to music and dance that was second to none. We are already planning our next river cruise and hope to see Harry again! Read Less

it was recommended by our travel agent. It was certainly an excellent experience. staff was excellent and very friendly. Embarkation details was not very details. We were told to have coach transfer to the spaceship at 3.30 pm at the Double Tree by Hilton. However, the exact location was not mentioned in the document sent to us. We accidentally got off the lift at the wrong floor on the way out of the hotel after breakfast. The departure was actually 3.00 pm. The cabin was small but satisfactory for a cruise ship. However, for the extra money we pay for the Junior suite, there is not a lot more space in the room. The balcony was just wide enough for a chair. However, It was exceptional experience from then on. Evening Entertainment, daily free choice were very high standard and certainly above expectation.Staff was very friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much of trouble except that they prefer you to make cups of tea except at meal time. Two possible consideration for the company to consider;- 1) If wine and alcohol are not part of the all-inclusive price, it will cater for the non-drinker and keep the cost of the cruise down. 2) Having the same breakfast for 14 days is a bit much. Food sometimes can be a bit salty and other times, a bot bland. Overall, very enjoyable experience. Read Less

The ship itself was really beautiful, spotlessly clean, immaculately presented. The Staff could not have been better or more accommodating and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble, from our Cabin Steward to the Captian and everyone in-between, they each went out of their way to ensure our holiday was very special. The food was a-m-a-z-i-n-g!!! Superbly fresh, presented gloriously, with plenty of fresh, local produce and ample options for all, including gluten-free dietary requirements. The tours were really well organised, complete with exceptionally good English speaking local guides. The tour options were also really great, in fact too good as we really wanted to do everything but of course this is not possible, (just another excuse to return again!). Overall this cruise was almost everything the expensive glossy brochures promised, with the exception of the BATHTUB. We NEEDED a bathtub to manage a medical condition. The brochure showed the luxury Suite of our choice was shown to have a bathtub however the bathtub was not included during the final fitout of the newly built, brand new Scenic Jasper Spaceship. Despite paying for this amenity almost 22 months before departure, Scenic didn't deem this matter important enough to mention prior to our embarkation on the Scenic Jasper. This said,if the bathtub had been included, we can confidently say this was a really wonderful holiday. Personally I could not participate in many of the activities due to pain levels which are normally managed through a long soak in a deep, hot bathtub. So a word of caution, make sure the amenities you pay for are definitely included in your Suite, before you pay the full amount of your cruise. Read Less

We joined the Jasper from spending 3 nights pre-cruise in Prague, which was a beautiful city and the Marriott was quite nice and perfectly located in old town area. Didn't depart our hotel on a 4 hour bus ride to our ship docked in Passau/Vilshofen, and would have been nicer for either an earlier departure or shorter ride. All aspects of this cruise were very good, with service, public areas, and cabins being considered to be top-notch. A beautiful and new ship, with a crew who are really doing their best to make it a 5-star experience. The food was quite good, with plentiful quantities and well-prepared. The breakfast and lunch buffets were outstanding every day--some of the best we have had. The dinners started out a bit below par for the Scenic objective of being a premier cruise line, but got consistently better each evening. They could improve by having a more varied menu and a few more local selections from the areas we visited. Our cabin steward and butler were totally awesome and consistently went over-and-above in providing exceptional service. Our captain did an outstanding job navigating the low water levels in the Danube, but really didn't see much of him or the hotel manager other than leaving/returning to ship each day after our shore excursions. Would have been nice to see them a bit more as they were quite friendly. Our cruise director did a good job in spite of a few curves thrown at him by some of the ships local tour guides- which he seemed to handle very well. He was quite personable and took care of all of our minor issues, but he appeared a bit overworked and could have used some help from some of the many talented and energetic ship's staff, possibly Scenic needs to create a "trainee CD" program like we saw on our prior cruises with Uniworld, to help assist in herding the flock while ashore. The shore excursions were considered "very good" to "excellent" and will only get better as this new ship and staff get more familiar with the local stops and local guides. Overall, this was a very enjoyable cruise and we would love to try Scenic again in the future. Next time we'll cruise in spring or fall as it was blazing hot each day which had a little bit of an impact on our overall enjoyment of shore excursions and on-deck time. Read Less
