This was our third cruise with Scenic and the second time we did this particular cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest. Our cabin on the Diamond deck was excellent as was the food and the facilities, all to Scenic's previous standards. We thoroughly enjoyed our "Sound of Music" concert and the concert at the Palais Liechtenstein in Vienna. We also visited Bratislava on this occasion, which added another layer of experience to the overall enjoyment of this trip. What I found though was that there seems to have been a drop in standards, i.e. the behaviour of a certain percentage of the passengers. I suspect that this is due to Scenic offering free flights, which may be attracting some groups out for a free for all. A good case in point was the first Evening at the buffet dinner, when a few dozen people fell upon the offerings and some became aggressive when someone else simply wanted to make their way along the table. This behaviour was distasteful to say the least. The waiting staff were fantastic and went out of their way to please and interact with the passengers. The cruise director was a bit longwinded and was not always concise with her explanations of the next day's offerings and often confused people to whom I spoke with. I also noticed that the coach trips to get from the ship to an activity also seemed to be quite long in a number of instances, as the ship seemed to dock further away from these activities. This was after all a cruise with shore activities, not a coach trip with a cruise included. On the last morning, I was also disappointed that our luggage was taken off the ship and left outside for over three hours prior to our transfer to the airport. Although the luggage was being attended to, the weather was becoming inclement. Luckily we managed to have it put on our transfer mini coach just as it started raining. Overall, we enjoyed this cruise as we were a group of twelve who became acquainted with each other, from the 22 day coach trip of Majestic Britain and Ireland, prior to joining the cruise on Jasper. We choose this cruise as our 40th wedding anniversary present to ourselves (we got married young) because it said it was luxurious, that everything was included from door to door, that the food and drinks were of a high standard and that the cabin was large and well designed. All true. The butler and all staff were friendly and efficient. The food was of a high standard too. Everything was highly organised including picking up and dropping off from home, the excursions and embarkation and disembarkation. I enjoyed our concert in Vienna, thought the Oktoberfest was fun and that the Sound of Music concert was excellent too. Amazing. I can't praise Scenic enough. A great trip. (I wish I had thought to do some of the day trips independently though as the "port/city walks" were just too slow for us who are seasoned active individuals. Please note that about 145 of the guests were from Australia and the majority were over 70. It is also worth bearing in mind that at times, as a sprightly 62 year youngster from the UK, we sometimes felt a bit "left out". Obviously no fault of Scenic whatsoever). Read Less

We selected Scenic because of the space we wanted and the length of time of the cruise. We were extremely happy with most everything. Our only drawback was that we selected the Royal Panorama Suite, actually the roomiest suite on the boat (there are only 2) and the suite itself was lovely HOWEVER these 2 suites are directly over the Scenic Jasper's 2 ton motors and when the boat is in transit, going thru locks, docking...whenever it is active, our suite was very noisy and really shook. The things on our night tables were on the floor by morning. We figured out how to modify this with earplugs and putting wash cloths in the doors, so they wouldn't shake...but, if possible, Scenic should do something to erase this problem or they should tell you when you book. Honestly, the people who take care of you are superb, so this is difficult to report. The entertainment that Simona booked for us was wonderful and different. And the excursions were great fun. We would go again, though we'd check the location of our suite more carefully. Read Less

Wanted to visit new destinations and experience the Rivers of Europe. Arrived in Amsterdam 2 days prior to cruise, met up with family, explored the city and galleries at a leisurely pace and enjoyed the sights. The embarkation process was smooth, luggage got damp in the rain but clothing soon dried by staff on board. Disembarkation was well organised. The ship is easy to get around, the De Luxe Cabin was great, bedding and service was exemplary. Meals were excellent and usually featured locally inspired dishes. Entertainment was good and activities were fun. Service was very good and nothing was too much trouble. Our Cruise Director Simona did an amazing job with humour and effectiveness, forgetting nothing. Ports and excursions were well worth visiting - somewhat crowded in major centres due to the fact that we did our tour during the peak school holiday season, but mostly it was comfortable and well guided by local professional guides. Would definitely enjoy another cruise with Scenic. The mix of travellers was perfect, and being more intimate in numbers, not at all overwhelming. Well recommended! Read Less

We love the relaxed and intimate atmosphere of river cruising, making new friends, meeting old friends with normally faultless service and excellent food and wine. We enjoy visiting new places, seeing new vistas and experiencing new cultures without the formality of the grand cruise liners. Scenic Jasper is a beautiful river boat, only two years old and carrying up to 163 passengers. Our panoramic suite was large and the balcony superb. Room service is normally excellent. This is our third cruise with scenic, but for some reason things never gelled from the start. The hotel staff seemed under pressure, understaffed and unhappy. Having to continually ask for coffee at breakfast, or wine for dinner is just no longer up to standards we look forward to with other cruise companies we have travelled with. Many of the meals were self service buffet creating a scrum with a full boat. On several occasions there was no food left and we had to ask and wait for more. We have eaten as well at motorway service stations. The wines were variable, some excellent some poor. The bar staff however were superb with cocktails to die for. The Rhine itself is of course a busy commercial river, so some areas are picturesque while others are industrial. Offshore visits were not wildly memorable and one tour guide was positively rude. The hotel manager was sadly very aloof and offhand. Maybe this filtered down to the staff. Sadly, I feel this may be the last time we cruise with Scenic. Read Less

We chose to take a Rhine River trip on Jasper as we have travelled on him before - yes I know ships are all supposed to be female but Jasper is definitely male. We sailed from Amsterdam to Basle over 7 days, at a lovely leisurely pace, whilst being plied with cocktails, wine - in fact any drink we desired - as well as superb food served by the friendly waiting staff onboard. There were shore excursions everyday, with choices of what to do, so there was something to suit everyone - the highlights for us were Amsterdam and Strasburg as they are both such pretty cities, based around canals and waterways. Lots of history as well and the tour guides are always very knowledgeable and helpful with advice of things to see and places to get that special snack or coffee. All the staff onboard are amazing, tour guide Nick is excellent which makes the trips run smoothly and when we were onboard there was plenty of room in the salon for everyone to sit and enjoy entertainment and a drink before - or after - dinner. All in all a wonderful experience, the only downside being that it was over too quickly. We will definitely be going again.! Read Less

We had previously done a P&O Med cruise, which was the most awful experience of our lives from start to finish, so wanted to get that out of my head and on our cruise travel agents advice chose Scenic river cruise. Well this was magical from the moment we shut the front door, staff, cruise director, food, entertainment, trips, cabin, drinks and organisation was so professional. Fellow passengers were great, although Americans can be a bit loud!!!!! Nothing was too much for the team, disembarkation was a dream unlike P& O which was a shambles. Everything was so clean, trips were so well organised, no waiting around, great tour guides employed, again unlike P&O whose guides were total rubbish. Our cruise director Cathy was friendly, helpful and always ready to help if she could, we even got a free laundry wash, which was great, no constant bing boing on the tannoy. All in all superb. This cruise suited our desire to see Europe from the Rhine and Danube rivers and the time of the year was good for us, especially as return flights to and from New Zealand were free. We were thrilled to be upgraded (with no extra cost) to a Deluxe Balcony cabin. The cabin facilities were excellent and having a balcony was the icing on the cake. We loved the dining options, service from the Staff, on board entertainment, which reflected the culture of the towns/cities we were stopping at and the cleanliness and design of the ship was superb. There was a wonderful selection of shore excursions, which were all included in the basic cost. When a medical emergency occurred the Tour Director took care of all the necessary details to provide the treatment that was needed. The embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly as planned. So, overall this was a wonderful trip and we would love to do it all again. Read Less

My husband surprised me with a 65th birthday gift that I will never forget. Sailing with Scenic for the second time our expectations were high, and we were not disappointed. The cabin was spacious and our cabin attendant, Danijela, was a gem, as well as, our butler, Ferenc, who always had a smile and a twinkle in his eye. The food was delicious and tasty and served with such flair by Alexandro, Smiley, and of course Milan, who is as charming as can be. All of the staff made one feel part of the Scenic family on The Jasper. The tour choices were plentiful and extremely interesting and having to choose as to which adventure to go on made the decision difficult. Local tour guides were informative and well versed on the topics of the tour which made the time seem to fly by. They were always letting you know where a good photo could be taken and made sure you had free time before heading back to the ship. The crew, from the captain down to the young lady who did the laundry all made you feel at home with their warming and bubbly personalities. Thank-you, Silvia, Miro ,Ferenc, Danijela, Milan, Alexandro, Smiley, Boris, and Nico. We miss you. Read Less

We chose to add two days to the beginning of our cruise to explore Amsterdam on our own. We were pleased that we were met at the airport and taken to our hotel as an extension to our cruise. The Double Tree by Hilton next to Central Station in Amsterdam was a great hotel with courteous, helpful staff. Scenic personnel met us at the designated time and efficiently took us to our ship. The Jasper is a relatively new ship built in 2015 and was excellent. We could not say enough good things about the crew, service and dining experience. We had choices most days on what excursions we wanted to take. We were very happy with our shore guides and the sights we saw. We were given enough free time to shop if we wanted to. Our program director, Patrick, was very organized and explained everything each day in our port talks. Our butler, Harry, was on call whenever we needed him and Putu our cabin attendant couldn't have been more efficient. We truly thank them. The Restaurant manager, Viktor, was fun and efficient. We really liked that it was an all inclusive trip with no hidden fees. Our disembarkation went fairly smoothly as we arrived at the airport in Basel in plenty of time. We thank Marlin Travel in Yorkton, for helping us plan this trip. Read Less

Chose Scenic at that particularly time to celebrate our 40th Anniversary in my husbands family's heritage - Germany and for me to see Vienna, Spanish Riding School. Sadly they advertise 5 star dinning but it is at best 3 star. Ignored emails for us and our travel agent (6 in total) and we told three people when we boarded that the wife is seriously allergic to all fish and sea food products - I still go served fish 4 days into the trip that did not look like fish and was not ordered. The staff blamed us for not telling the company (we had 3 times) - one response state "we cant guarantee food requests can be met". We were told your met at the airport and taken to the ship. Nope we spent 7 hours in a hotel function room waiting to go to the ship. We had been traveling 35 hours in the same clothes by the time we got on board! All we wanted was our room and shower - but first Scenic crew wanted a lovely meet and greet with champagne - YUK! when your sweaty and dirty from traveling. To many Port calls they go on and on and everyone is expected to attend (at least a couple a day). While the crew handled a difficult time badly (rive closed for few days) the companies options were appalling - cut Vienna to 4.5 hours (the worlds cultural centre) and we had four days in row going to medieval villages - no offense but seen one seen them all - the best one was Rottenberg. There are no picnic baskets as advetised - the crew had never heard of such things. Meal times are ridiculously strict - and tend to over rule travel one would like to do - seriously the first two weeks of our once in a lifetime anniversary trip ruined by living to scheduale we do that for a living! May as well have stayed at work. However, Great Britain and Switzerland were awesome and made up for the cruise - scenic had nothing to do with that part of our trip. PS butler to look after your every whim - rubbish we saw him twice to say hello day 1 and goodbye on day 15. I am told Viking are much better company to travel with. Our Cabin Steward Putu was fantastic!!! Needless to say we thanked him privately. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of our wonderful experience with Scenic Tours. The ship (the Jasper) was beautiful. Our butler Harry was perfect! The dining, service staff was mostly excellent. A couple of the servers couldn't locate the wines we requested from the list offered and poured us wine we didn't want, saying "Trust me, you'll love it." On the last day one of our table mates suggested we ask our butler to find the wines and of course Harry brought the right ones right away. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. The excursions were excellent. The only reason I rated them only "Good" was not Scenic's fault. A couple of ships belonging to other cruise lines damaged a loch and we had to leave our ship and take buses here and there for a couple of days. We missed a day in Vienna which was a big deal for me. However Scenic Cruises and our Tour Director really worked hard to make sure we still had a wonderful time. We were a little disappointed in that we thought this would be a more active cruise. We like to get in at least several miles of walking a day, but do to logistics, cuing up for Bathroom Breaks and escorted tours, we never met that goal. When you reach the days destination, you can go off on your own but my husband wanted to take the tours. So again this was not Scenic's fault. The Entertainment was first class. On board or at special locations (palace and castle) we were treated to music and dance that was second to none. We are already planning our next river cruise and hope to see Harry again! Read Less

We had attended a couple of promotional sessions prior to making our booking. We booked two back to back river cruises expecting them to be much fun and very relaxing. They turned out to be quite tiring with early mornings and late nights and extended bus trips. The entertainment on board is very average in quality and presentation. Just be aware that if anything does go wrong Scenic is quick to distance themselves from any liability. Its is not all bad. The staff are wonderful and there are copious amounts of food and drink. If you are a person who usually travels independently then you may wish to think carefully before embarking on a river cruise. The balcony suite on the third floor was roomy and comfortable. We did hear about the engine noise from passengers who were at the rear of the ship. We did see some wonderful sites. Read Less

We have just returned from a 14 day cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam on the Scenic Jasper. This was our first river cruise and the cruise surpassed our highest expectations. There was no question that Scenic is a 5 star cruise line as there was nothing they wouldn’t do to try and make the cruise the best experience possible. Most of the passengers were from Australia with a few from New Zealand, Canada and the US. The crew were mostly from eastern European countries but were friendly and very well trained. We had a choice of two to three excursions almost every day and the guides were all excellent and all spoke very good english. Scenic’s Taylor made devices work very well in comparison to others we have used and were very easy to use and provided more functions than simply a device to hear the guides narrative. While on this cruise the Danube was closed for about three days due to an incident that happened in the Gabcikovo Canal near Bratislava and caused all boat traffic to have to stop and tie up in the river. We were kept very well informed by our cruise Director Sylvia and Scenic made plans to deliver as many of the excursions as possible. Although we had to endure some long bus rides from where the ship was tied up to our planned excursion I strongly believe Scenic and Cruise Director Sylvia did everything within their power to deliver a first class experience during this delay on the river. They even went as far as to provide one nights hotel rooms in a 5 star hotel in Salzburg for those of us who chose to take that excursion. While the rooms on Jasper were fairly small they were very well appointed and the bathroom were very nice with a large shower by cruise ship standards. The public spaces were very comfortable and the service by the waiters and bartenders was excellent. The daily selection of primarily regional wines were excellent and if by chance you didn’t like one of them there were always several alternatives. While the menu for dinner was a little limited the food was very well prepared and beautifully presented. As I previously mentioned Sylvia, our cruise director, was one of the best we have ever had. Everything that happened was very well explained and everything was run exactly on time. The passengers were also very good about getting back to the busses after shore excursions on time so that fellow passengers didn't have to wait for a late person. Scenic’s enrichment experiences were fantastic and all of them were very good but the one we liked the most was the Sound of Music event held in the Alps overlooking Salzburg. The food, music and entertainment were excellent and it was a pure joy to be there. Scenic advertises as an all inclusive cruise and they really deliver on that. Once we got to the airport in Budapest we never spent a cent except for some small touristy things we bought to bring home. They even had a representative at the airport in Amsterdam to guide to to the proper check in area. All in we will probably go on another Scenic cruise in Europe and whole recommend it highly to our friends and relatives as we believe is an excellent value for the money! Read Less

Before we booked this cruise, we had booked to do the same with Avalon but changes to our other tours and commitments saw us book with Scenic river cruises. We have used Scenic prior to this and had enjoyed their offerings but this was some time ago. Armed with all the hype after watching the advertising, we were expecting something really special. We arrived in Prague for the three day extension. This is really a con because one of the days is spent tightly crammed into a coach for the long day of driving to the ship in Budapest. For what we paid for this, I would never recommend it. Just do Prague on your own, you will not miss anything and will save heaps. We enjoyed Budapest but that is where it ended. While beyond Scenic's control at the outset, it is what followed that beggars belief. A lock on the river had been slightly damaged and ships we not able to proceed. Essentially what Scenic decided to do was to bus people to each of the destinations further on. This involved almost four hours on a crammed coach for 1hr 40 mins in Bratislava. But the next was a doozy, an almost 17hr day of coaching culminating in a show in Vienna! We and some others opted out for various reasons relating to physical capacity. Scenic did not offer us a viable alternative. When the lock finally opened, we simply sped past every port along the river just so the last couple of days might be on schedule! Go figure? A river cruise spent on a Coach! Of course, there could have been a better compromise but Scenic has the attitude that one size fits all. This is in spite of their claims that they offer "tailor made" experiences. In recognition of our loss of enjoyment, they have offered a paltry $1500 credit off a future river cruise. This represents around 10% of a single with flights and pre and post accommodation. Frequent travellers paying earlybird get this. I am not sure that many Aussies could even afford to do this trip,a second time. I am guessing the European passengers will find the discount a lot more attractive! I liaised with Scenic pointing out that they were the cause of much of our disappointment to absolutely no effect. For us, the premium paid for this experience is not justified. The butler service is nothing, the minibar means nothing, all drinks are included anyway. A small bag of washing is allowed for the two weeks and everything was returned shrunken. The food offerings were nothing exceptional at all. Our times on other cruises have been at least as enjoyable. Even the room design for our upgraded top level cabin was not as efficient as we have had and it suffered noise from the lobby area. The true measure of a company is what they do when things go wrong. Scenic failed us dismally. We will not be able to recommend them. Read Less

The route we selected was the traditional Rhine river cruise with an excellent itinerary. We selected Scenic based on the innovative cabin design with the balcony that could be either separated from or made part of the cabin by means of folding glass doors. The balcony could also be protected from the elements if necessary by means of a glass panel that could slide up from the lower section and create a glass wall. Scenic advertises that it is all inclusive and it really is. All drinks of all types were included at all times of day and night.(there were a few exceptions such as Dom but we were very happy with all the available high quality wines, liquors and beers) The food quality and choice was excellent . The " River Cafe" offered a nice selection of small sandwiches and desserts at all the off hours so a nice snack was always available . All of the shore excursions were included and there was never a suggestion of additional tipping to the guides- all of whom were of very high quality. The enrich experiences such as a concert in a Vienna palace were very well done and enjoyable. Passengers were all English speaking with a mix of Australians, New Zealanders, Canadians and Americans. The ship and its cabins were very new and of a very modern design. The staff was attentive and the cruise director ( Sylvia) was very detail and service oriented. We loved the experience so much that while on board , we booked another cruise with Scenic for the south of France in September 2018. Read Less

it was recommended by our travel agent. It was certainly an excellent experience. staff was excellent and very friendly. Embarkation details was not very details. We were told to have coach transfer to the spaceship at 3.30 pm at the Double Tree by Hilton. However, the exact location was not mentioned in the document sent to us. We accidentally got off the lift at the wrong floor on the way out of the hotel after breakfast. The departure was actually 3.00 pm. The cabin was small but satisfactory for a cruise ship. However, for the extra money we pay for the Junior suite, there is not a lot more space in the room. The balcony was just wide enough for a chair. However, It was exceptional experience from then on. Evening Entertainment, daily free choice were very high standard and certainly above expectation.Staff was very friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much of trouble except that they prefer you to make cups of tea except at meal time. Two possible consideration for the company to consider;- 1) If wine and alcohol are not part of the all-inclusive price, it will cater for the non-drinker and keep the cost of the cruise down. 2) Having the same breakfast for 14 days is a bit much. Food sometimes can be a bit salty and other times, a bot bland. Overall, very enjoyable experience. Read Less

We had been on a Scenic cruise 2 years ago from Paris to Le Havre and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was our 20th wedding anniversary this August so wanted something special, hence we chose Scenic because of the superb all round experience 2 years ago. This trip didn't disappoint. As soon as we arrived in Amsterdam we were met by a Scenic representative who ushered us to a private car for the journey to the ship. Immediately we stepped on board there was a friendly welcome. The attitude of the crew was outstanding throughout the cruise. The food was wonderful. Cleanliness was extremely good. The excursions were very well organised and very enjoyable with top class venues and high standard performances. What my wife and I particularly like are that the majority of passengers are Australian who are definitely all there for a good time. They are fun to be with and this made a big difference for us. Coming home we were in the airport queue at Budapest behind some Viking Cruise British passengers and all they did was moan about their trip. ( we are British by the way ). I'm sure Viking Cruises are very good so was disappointed with their moaning. The Aussies didn't moan like this. My wife and I will definitely travel with Scenic again. Their prices perhaps appear on the high side for some but you get what you pay for. If you want quality then Scenic is the one. We maybe could save money and go with another river cruise company but we won't because we know for sure Scenic will always provide top class service so are prepared to pay. We were looking to celebrate an Anniversary milestone and what better way than by enjoying cruising the Rhine and the Danube, through magnificent scenery, whilst visiting a wide variety of towns and cities with great histories? We were made to feel really welcome on board by all the staff, in particular our quite excellent butler, Harry, with service always readily available. The cabin provided comprehensive accommodation and facilities and seemed to be serviced twice or three times each day, keeping it quite impeccable. The public areas were of a high standard and the Restaurant facilities provided a great choice of high class food. In conclusion, this cruise really delivered, also providing a good choice of excursions including tours of Amsterdam, Cologne, Salzburg and Vienna, with 'enrichment' activities including a visit to the Spanish Riding School and a Concert at Palais Lichenstein in Vienna. We were originally going Evergreen, but due to problems with the ship, we were upgraded to the Scenic Jasper. Boy were we lucky! Our cabin was roomy, especially with the verandah set up as we never had to close the glass doors - simply closed the external window instead. We were quite worried about Butler service - not our thing at all - but Milan was an absolute godsend for a cup of tea in the morning! The staff were all fantastic - they seemed to know what we wanted - whether it was a drink or something at the table - almost before we knew ourselves, and it was all done with a smile and laugh. They became family - but better! The tours were well thought out with plenty of choices, and the onboard entertainment excellent - especially the staff night. Loved having access to the bikes and being able to go off on our own, making sure we returned before the Jasper sailed! This is definitely not a cruise to do with children, as I don't think the predominantly older passengers would appreciate them and it is really geared to adults. We would highly recommend Scenic to anyone. Read Less

Everything about this cruise was amazing. The entire crew worked towards anticipating your every need. They were happy to see you and wanted to know how you were doing, whether you had a good time on your shore excursions. There was a good variety of shore excursions and they would try and accommodate any change that came their way. You had to work very hard at finding anything to critisize. Scenic is truly an all inclusive. You paid your charge and put your wallet away until you bought souvenirs. They supplied good tour times and free times. If any timetable became skewed with circumstances beyound Scenic's control (ie traffic accident and construction) the guides asked what the group would prefer. This was truly an amazingly active yet totally stress and worry free holiday. I will recommend Scenic cruises entitrely and without any reservations. The size of the ship made it possible for the crew to learn your preferences and they were thrilled to know what type of wine you liked, how you liked your eggs for breakfast. Book with Scenic and you will truly relax. Read Less

We chose this cruise on advice from our travel agent, after watching a TV travel program. Budapest was an unexpected delight. All port and shore excursions were enjoyable and informative. This is certainly the way to see much of the historical areas of European countries on the Danube and Rhine Rivers. We enjoyed the 'lock' experiences; that was fun for people from a country with no such system. The pace was pretty hectic, but there were no compulsory excursions, so there was a chance to stay on board while others were exploring. Our cabin was a comfortable suite with a sitting room, balcony, large king size bed, bathroom with bath and a full size wardrobe. Dining was exceptional with friendly efficient service. Food and drinks were fine hotel quality. The sun-deck was comfortable and had plenty of seating and shade, but unfortunately we experienced unusually hot weather in the first few days on board, so not too much time was spent there. Many people cooled down in the pool. We enjoyed all night-time activities, especially those with a musical focus. Our butler and cabin attendant made our cruise very comfortable with early morning tea and coffee (butler service) and a squeaky clean cabin (cabin attendant). The laundry service was most appreciated, as it was collected and returned usually on the same day. The activities organised by the Cruise Director were of such interest and variety that one could never be bored. Our Cruise Director was extremely efficient, knowledgeable and cheerful. Thank you Scenic we really enjoyed our cruise. Read Less
