We chose the cruise because of the itinerary to Vienna and Budapest plus the appearance of Mary Berry. The cruise without question was full of surprises, magical Christmas markets, Brilliant musical entertainment in stunning venues. The Culinary offerings were superb and second to none, they matched anything a Michelin Chef could offer. The team on board the the Jasper were incredible, nothing was too much trouble and no one ever wanted for their glasses topping up, or for a cup of tea delivered even to the lower deck cabins by your own personal butler. The cabins were well appointed, spacious as are the large suites on the upper decks. The icing on the cake was when we were joined by Mary Berry, what a brilliant person, who has time for everyone and puts them at their ease passengers and crew alike. Finally all this comes in the price of the cruise including those excellent malt whiskys' Read Less

Despite this cruise being advertised by the Daily Telegraph, booking and payment were made to Scenic and as a platinum member we received all of the normal Scenic benefits, so naturally we expected everything to be as good as all of the other times that we have travelled with Scenic. The ship was beautifully presented in a modern style as usual; the majority of the staff were as efficient and helpful as usual; the included expertly guided tours to Budapest/ Melk Abbey and Cesky Krumlov were excellent as usual and the coaches were immaculate as usual BUT the food was way below the usual 5 star standard. As some friends had joined us on this cruise having listened to us rave about the fantastic food that was always served on board, this was particularly embarrassing. The degustation menu served on the invitation night at La Rive was very good but the experience was so much better when a round table was used because it was much easier for people to converse. The dinner served at Portobellos was average. The food on the lunch time buffet, apart from one or two dishes was also average. We had an alternative choice of steak a couple of times and it was perfectly cooked. The food did improve slightly on the last couple of days when the guest speaker, Mary Berry, joined the ship. Each cabin was given one copy of her latest book 'Household Tips and Tricks', which, considering that most of the people on board were over 60 was not perhaps the best choice. Her latest cookbook would have been more appropriate. She was very interesting and friendly and chatted with everyone and signed autographs, but when she had one of the chefs on board make 3 pastries as per her recipes, 2 of them were a disaster. There were also some timing issues with a couple of the excursions and the 'tailor made devices'. There were a fair number of people on this cruise that had never travelled with Scenic before and I heard a number of them say that they would have expected higher quality food on a ship that is at the top end of river cruising. If I hadn' t been on other Scenic cruises I would be unlikely to repeat the experience. Read Less

All inclusive. Choices for tours. Great reviews. Free time too long. Would be nice to be able to have bus to return to ship. We felt rushed at meal times as staff very busy trying to serve everyone. Food was mostly good but at times steak and fish undercooked. All meals cooked on rare side. We had no choice. Alcohol was good and many choices. Our cabin very small but beds were not easy to sleep on. Twins are very narrow. Maid service was excellent. Cruise director was excellent and very organized. Massage therapist was good. We didn’t use the butler service as we had nowhere to sit to have a coffee.. Tried to upgrade but only suite left and when we went to see it it was being used to store all the dirty laundry bags. We were not prepared to spend 3500 Euros for something we couldn’t even see. The tailormades were not always reliable. Would not always charge. I would recommend Scenic as we were well looked after and the friendliness of the staff made for a great holiday. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary and that Scenic is all inclusive ....drinks,mini bar, food, gratuities and a choice of daily excursions plus extras. The Jasper is the newest ship in the fleet and is beautiful....our cabin was clean and bright with a window that you could lower with the touch of a button making an outdoor balcony Food was very good and the staff were friendly and made everyone feel welcome. Butler service is also provided to everyone and ours responded to our needs immediately. Ports of call were very interesting and all excursions were excellent . Several walking excursions were in cities with cobble stone streets so a good pair of shoes is required. With a choice of daily excursions offered, there was always something for everyone. Overall, this cruise was exceptional due to the itinerary, ships crew and amenities offered. Would definitely recommend Scenic to anyone considering a future cruise. Read Less

Scenic Jasper Budapest to Amsterdam 2017 (Oct18 to Nov 1). Cabin 203 – Junior Suite As I sit here early in the morning two days before the end of our cruise – and docked beside another river boat, I have no idea what the weather is like as it’s very dark in our cabin. If I want, I can look at the closed curtains of the cabin in the ship beside me, but I choose to watch the Bow Cam. Now, this has only happened about 3-4 times, but when it does, it’s pretty disappointing. A dark room without any kind of view. Our cabin is wonderful. It’s a little tight compared with a Junior Suite on an ocean cruise ship, but it’s laid out well with room for all of our belongings (4 regular size suitcases and two carry-ons). Yes, we bring much too much luggage, but everything is put away and there is still room. As well, all of our luggage easily fits under the bed. We have done many ocean cruises, but this is our first river cruise, and we found it quite different. Unlike some others, we go on cruises to exercise and to relax from stressful jobs. We do like to socialize some, but we also really like our time together. On larger ships we don’t spend a lot of time going to Bingo, napkin folding, dance lessons, and the like, but we get why others enjoy those things. What we have found is that a river cruise is pretty busy with tours and socializing. There’s really not that much down time, unless you get sick . . . which we did. I should start by saying our Premium Economy flights were included with the ‘special’ that we got through Scenic. I had booked these flights (through Scenic) 9 months before our departure and wanted to get nice seats as the flight is around 10 hours and is such a part of the whole journey for us. I love flying. Two days prior to departure I confirmed our seats with Lufthansa, but when I went on-line to check in, although we were still booked in Premium Economy, we had been moved from our window and aisle seats to two middle seats in a line of four seats. Right in the Centre with neither is us having an aisle seat. I spent a good two hours on the phone with Lufthansa (cut off twice) where they basically said that they couldn’t help me but to speak with someone at the gate. Long story short, we were told that we didn’t ‘pay’ for our seats and they would do nothing for us, but smiling, asked “Do you want to upgrade to Business Class for 1025.00 each?” Ummm no. I asked her if there was a possibility that someone might upgrade to Business and there might be other premium economy seats available? We were advised to check back which we did, and the lady we met with was much easier to deal with. She would upgrade the both of us for a total of 1025.00. We said yes, as this was a once in a lifetime trip and we really wanted to enjoy the flight. The flight was great but we arrived to find one of our bags lost and when they found it, it was broken apart. There was no offer to replace our luggage, and we were too tired to push for it - our Scenic transportation had left so we took a cab to our hotel. The following day, our one full day in Budapest, was spent looking for luggage. We actually enjoyed this outing as we got in some sightseeing! Budapest – we stayed at the Marriott and it was a wonderful hotel. We found Budapest, the city, to be beautiful, stunning, and warm. T-shirt weather, which we weren’t really expecting. The morning we were to board the Scenic we were told to be downstairs in the hotel lobby (with many others) at 11, and after checking in with Scenic personnel we were told to hang around until 4 when we would be taken to the Jasper. Some people were disappointed with that, but we were in a wonderful city and we just went with it. Our first 5 cruise days went well – we went on tours, met some great people and enjoyed the ship. Day 4 we had gone on the ‘Shop with the Chef’ tour in Vienna and the weather started to change. We had a nice day but it did rain a bit and started to get noticeably colder. I noticed that I was coming down with a cold. By the next morning, my coughing had me convinced that 5 hours on a bus the next day to and from Salzburg wouldn’t be great for my fellow passengers and we decided to forgo this much anticipated tour. But, as Marie Von Trapp said, “When the Lord closes a door, somewhere he opens a window”, and he did! Looking back, that day on the boat from Vienna to Dürnstein was the most beautiful scenery that we saw on this trip. It was incredible. About 16 of us had stayed behind on the boat and we had it to ourselves. An incredible day. Anyway, my husband got sick the following day (with Bronchitis we think) and ever since then we have been trying hard to keep our distance from others so as to not pass on what we have. It turns out that a fair number of people have colds on the boat. The thing is, on this small ship in this weather, there are only two places to go during the day if not on a tour – your cabin or the Lounge. And you know, colds, flu – that happens sometimes when you’re on vacation. It’s not fun but we’ve accepted it and are just trying to make the most of everything. But the strange thing that we noticed (others have as well) is that staff (bar staff, restaurant staff, front desk staff) have not asked how we are, when we see them. We know of a gentleman who has been confined to his cabin with the flu and no one has visited him or asked his wife how he is doing. There has been no talk encouraging people to use hand sanitizers so as not to spread anything around, like they do on the larger ships. It’s a little shocking actually, and we believe that the staff is most probably told not to ask how people are doing. Because we know, that they KNOW we’re sick – no question. It’s a small ship and everyone gets to know everyone. I was asked once, in passing, by the Cruise Director, but I had gone to her prior to the Salzburg trip to let her know we wouldn’t be going, and as well, let her know about the following tour, until I realized that they really don’t want to know. Odd, and disappointing to be so sick and not have people care. Our fellow passengers do tho, which is nice. Perhaps they are worried about being held responsible in some way? I don’t really understand that. Outstanding staff would be our Butlers, Ivan and Danny, and they were very kind and helpful to us. Anyway, today we are in Cologne, Germany where we will spend one more day getting better before we arrive in Amsterdam tomorrow. We feel somewhat better this morning and are going to go on tomorrow’s tour. Yes we are! Pros - Beautiful and clean ship - Good service - Amazing food Cons - Lack of any empathy or interest when you are sick - even when you are missing tours and dinners. We had to order dinner in on quite a few nights. - Docking beside other boats completely blocking your view - Room service is really lacking, especially healthy food. Menu is really limited. Would we go on this trip again? I don’t know. Maybe in ten years? (We are in our early 60’s and from what we could see, we were probably the youngest on the ship). When we’re ready to be busy every day with tours and socializing and don’t need and want as much down time to ourselves. In all honesty, I think we were ignoring little signals that this might not be the perfect trip for us when we booked. Note to self: Listen to your instincts! We’re looking forward to a few days in Amsterdam, and crossing our fingers that we get the plane seats we booked for our flight home to Vancouver Read Less

We piggy backed onto this cruise with friends who had previously booked. Seemed like an interesting idea for a vacation. We were transferred from the Marriott Budapest by luxury coach to the ship and were greeted by the crew. Our luggage was already in the room. Got the keys and away we went. No credit card number was asked for. Most of the passengers were from Australia and Canada which made for a convivial cruising experience. Cruise director Simona was fantastic from beginning to end. Don't know if she ever slept, the poor thing. All excursions were handled efficiently without any mishaps. Excursions were numerous and all interesting from attending a concert at the Palais Lichtenstein and treated to opera singers and ballet dancers. Optional bike ride along the Danube was exhilarating in the crisp October weather, as the Jasper passed us along the river. Lovely canal cruise in Amsterdam at the end with a visit to a cheese shop and the obligatory herring tasting with onions and pickles. On board entertainment was varied and excellent as well. Visits by violinists, dancers and even a zither player. All of the guides were absolutely fantastic. Mostly Austrian or German students, all highly educated, informative and best of all entertaining. I would sear they all had training in stand up comedy. Food was excellent at breakfast and lunch. Dinners were very good although portions were at times on the small side, such as the sea bass dinner which consisted of 2-3 bites. I could have asked for more of course but didn't..there is always something else to eat at dinner. Wines were OK but not of premium quality. German whites and reds mostly which were on the light side; but servers always available to refill your glass. Overall the crew worked very hard to make the cruise a success as well as very friendly to the passengers. And of course a chocolate on the pillow every night. And a shout out to the hidden staff such as housekeeping who were keeping our cabin tidy, resupplying us with clean towels. I would certainly recommend Scenic highly. We would definitely book again if the timing is right and the cruise is on our bucket list. Read Less

After spending a glorious week in Budapest we boarded the Scenic Jasper. From that moment on we were made to feel welcome and valued. The brief waiting period for access to our cabin was passed most pleasantly in the lounge due to the hospitality of the staff and the food and beverage service. This introduction was a harbinger of the rest of our voyage which was indeed 'first class'. As experienced ocean cruisers, we were curious about river cruising and Scenic did not disappoint. The smaller size of river ships and the more personalized service truly enhanced our holiday experience. As well, the carefully curated excursions and onboard entertainment added further enjoyment. The all-inclusive aspect was most appealing. We would not hesitate to recommend Scenic to friends and fellow travellers and we look forward to future river cruise vacations. The only minor disappointment/inconvenience was tying up alongside other vessels which curtailed the use of our balcony and imposed on our privacy. Read Less

We would certainly recommend this type of cruise. The activities with Mary Berry were excellent. We made many friends on this wonderful cruise. The visit to the Christmas Markets in both Vienna and Saltsburg were very enjoyable and got us in the mood for the Festive Season. We enjoyed the visits to Melk Abbey, Shounbrun Palace and the excursions in Budapest. The food, drink and standard of service provided by the staff in the restaurant was exceptional and we enjoyed the service provided by our personal butler. Highlights of the cruise were the evening sightseeing cruise in Budapest, the Christmas market visits and the incredible classical concert which we attended in Vienna. This was our first river cruise and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, thanks to all involved. Read Less

We chose this cruise over a year ago for a 60th birthday and and 27th Anniversary celebration based on on-line reviews and advertised 5 star dining. We paid up to be on the Diamond Deck so we could participate in the "La Rive" degustation dinner experience. I'm not sure what is going on with Scenic but the food product served at dinner is 3 star at best and service is seriously understaffed. Each waiter had about 24 guests and were expected to take orders, deliver, clear tables, etc. Everyone on the ship headed down to dinner at the same time - if you came later you might never get your meal as each course is served like at a banquet. First all orders from all the waiters tables are taken before delivery to the kitchen then everyone gets their appetizer followed by soup, entree and desert. All courses need to be ordered at the same time. Several times I ordered two appetizers and no soup course but never got the second appetizer because they had moved on to the soup course. I gave up on asking because it just impacted everyone else and the rest of service. The farther your waiter was from the kitchen (which was in the back of the ship) the longer everything took as he had to keep running back and forth. There were no waitstations in the middle or front of the ship for bussing tables so waiters had to carry everything to the back of the ship. Our ship butlers also worked the restaurant at dinner but did not assist the waiters unless asked by the restaurant or hotel manager-no teamwork but seemed to be a pecking order of who did what. Our hotel and restaurant manager worked their tails off to pick up the lack and ensure customer satisfaction. They couldn't make up though for the poor quality food products, most apparent in seafood products which were often just inedible. Fish filets OK but very thin. We were hesitant to order anything with seafood after the first couple experiences. Shrimp dishes were these tiny overcooked, frozen product with maybe 1 or 2 slightly larger prawns. If a dish said lobster, you needed a magnifying glass to find it. The two delightful ladies serving wine and drinks also served beverages in the lounge at all other times. They each worked half of the dining room so had about 80 guests each to serve. The hotel and restaurant manager went overboard to try to make our experience better once we had expressed our preferences but their hands were tied by the poor food products provided by Scenic. Not a good area to try to cut costs as dining is a big part of any cruise. We have been on many ocean cruises and never had such hit and miss food experiences. La Rive was supposed to be a degustation experience so we schedule for the 60th birthday celebration. To start, we were served about 1/4 glass of champagne - we had to ask to get a full glass which took some time because they evidently had to find and open another bottle. We were served an entire small boiled potato about the size of an egg with a teeny portion of caviar on top as our amuse bouche. Really - a boiled potato? There were three items on the next plate which we were told accounted for three of our courses. Although there was a foie gras item, it was only about 1/2 bite. We all had the filet for entree which was very good and saved the meal. The staff and cruise director did serve a very nice birthday cake and gave my husband a box of chocolates which was very nice and fun. I would not pay up again to be on the Diamond Deck just to dine at La Rive. The table is at the back of the main restaurant so nothing special there. There is nothing very special about the food; diners in the main restaurant were also served filet although it was described as beef tenderloin. It was hard to hear the butlers describing food items. Portabello's dining was for the anniversary celebration. This is held in the area in front of the bar in the lounge. One of us ordered the seafood pasta which we had to send back - the seafood tasted terrible. Again, a very nice cake and anniversary celebration. it was nice to sit somewhere besides the dining room. The cruise director, Cathy, was fabulous. She was very organized and helpful to all. The tours and special experiences were great. Although we did like the Salzburg tour and Sound of Music experience, I'm not sure we'd go again as it was 2 hours there and 2 hours back in a bus. We would also like to have stayed longer at some of the ports either before or after our tours to have more free time then we were given to explore on our own. FYI, tours generally leave after breakfast around 9 then back to ship for lunch and maybe an hour or so free time if you didn't have it already after the tour. Then the ship would leave sometime in the afternoon. Or we would dock late morning, have lunch on ship then take the tour. Seldom long days like on an ocean cruise. Lunch and Breakfast are Buffett. Egg station at breakfast and carving station at lunch. Good wines available anytime. Gym is very small. No weight equipment to speak of. Yoga at 7AM only in the lounge. We enjoyed our Deluxe Balcony room in the center of the ship and the enclosed balcony window that could be lowered in good weather. It made the cabin seem bigger. The closet doors slid over each other so you couldn't open one without closing the other. Seemed like we were constantly sliding the doors back and forth. Nice L'Occitane products. We heard complaints from guests at the back of the ship in the Royal Panorama Suites that they were often disturbed by engine noise into the night. We had some early morning noise when crew was setting up chairs on the top deck above us. Don't know why they couldn't have done this work after we left the ship for our tours instead of early morning. We'd skip Diamond Deck if we were to take Scenic again as upcharge wasn't worth the product delivered. As Scenic was more expensive then other similar cruises, I'm not sure I could recommend to a friend unless the food product and staffing issues at dinner are addressed. Evening dining is a big part of the cruise experience for us. I would like to go to dinner when I want to, be served as though i were in a restaurant not as though I were at a convention banquet where everyone is served the same course at the same time. Scenic could take lessons from Windstar which has ocean ships with similar customer capacity yet is able to serve excellent restaurant style meals and service at three venues nightly. Read Less

Her port talks were humorous, to the point, we would not miss one. If you had to miss one you could view on your TV in your room. A cruise chosen for it's itinerary, we found to be a worthwhile and enjoyable experience marred by three weaknesses 1] a Scenic induced boarding time confusion that caused our cancellation of a Budapest spa experience 2] Instances of poor food ingredient quality ion our judgement, imposed by Scenic cost controls, and 3] A total absence of basic medical equipment, which, given the average age of cruisers, imposes an unusual risk Our dining experiences, one of the key determinants of cruising enjoyment, were,at best, mixed.Breakfasts and lunches, served buffet style, were generally good, the range of offerings were reasonably broad, with high marks for breakfast quality and for cream soups.Dinners, however, were another thing.Evidence of Scenic imposed cost controls was most evident in seafoods, as in the thin, minnowlike sea bass filets, and,in the La Rive degustation Osso Bucco where the required veal appeared more akin to an aged cow.A one sitting timing was also a disappointment, although the wait team, to a man and a woman, worked with an amazing determination to make the experience enjoyable, serving with humor and grace throughout the trip.We found the wines also not to live up to the advertised premium quality. Cannot speak too highly of Cathy, the Cruise Director, whose enthusiasm and unfailing willingness to offer aid to any need was highly creditable. Similarly, the cabin crew whereas in the case of our butler,Dian, there promptly and always smiling, with help when called upon -- even, in one case, at 5.00am resultant upon my wife's medical emergency.Cabin housekeeping was both thorough and unobtrusive Our cabin,a deluxe balcony, was comfortable and well appoiinted, though the overlapping closet doors were a nuisance The tours and special events were enjoyable and the guides generally excellent.in one case we chose to pursue an individual trip into the Czech Republic, for which Cathy arranged that Sebastian Frankenurger lead us -- a wonderful individual with extensive experience and a great sense of humour. The private concerts were universally of a high standard and thoroughly enjoyable. The vaunted GPS devices too often stopped operating and were therefore more a burden than an aid. In sums pleasant experience with crew of whom we cannot speak too highly, and, cofortable well appointed cabin and public space accommodations. That notwithstanding we would question the promotion of the offering being of premium quality, dinner and wines legislating against that concept. Attention to detail was amazing. The staff went out of their way to make us feel like we were their only priority. Took part in only two shore excursions - simply our choice. Everyone we spoke with that did the shore excursions thoroughly enjoyed them. We happen to enjoy just walking about on our own. The cruise director was amazing. Our butler was amazing. The food was, and I am a food type person, over the top delicious and creative. Wine selection was fantastic. Really have nothing to say that could be negative except I don't think I could ever go on a different cruise line after the Scenic experience. Friends asked us to take this cruise with them and at first we declined because we realized that there are cheaper cruises out there. However we went to the very informative information session and decided to go for it. We are so very happy that we did. Scenic is a class act, and looked after us from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. We were greeted at the airport by a Scenic representative and driven to the ship by the driver, both of whom were extremely friendly and treated us like honoured guests - as we were treated by ALL staff throughout the trip. We never had to take out our wallets. Every single meal, drink, trip was looked after by Scenic including special events not available to other cruises such as an Octoberfest event, A Sound of Music event and a beautiful concert in a palace. I have been told that other companies may be cheaper but that they charge extra for many of the things they offer. Our cruise director covered every possible detail in her port talks so that our daily outings ran very smoothly and she made the trip fun with disco evenings, jokes and on board entertainment. She made herself available to all guests and both on and off the ship . The food was outstanding with gourmet dinners every night and fabulous buffet meals for breakfast and lunch featuring local delicacies. Our cabins (and the ship in general) were immaculate with room cleaning twice a day which included making/changing the beds and linens and keeping our "L' Occitane" toiletries and bar fridge fully stocked. Our own personal balcony was such a luxury! We loved sitting there watching the world go by. We also spent time on the sun deck where we could visit with all the new friends we made and relax in the comfortable chairs. The deck also had a track around the perimeter which allowed me to get my 10,000 steps in every day although most of the excursions looked after that. It was so much better than a tread mill because every time I got around again there was a new vista to enjoy. There was also a hot tub available for those so inclined. The lounge was also a very enjoyable and comfortable place to visit with amazing service by the bar staff, and every possible beverage available. Many choices of excursions were offered and "tailor made devices" made sure that we didn't miss a thing that our guides were saying. Local, very knowledgeable guides joined us at every port. Business casual dress for the evenings and comfortable clothes for the daytime made the trip very comfortable for all. Scenic thought of every possible thing we might need, including getting us back to the airport and to the check in desk. I really can't say enough about it. It was an absolute pleasure to be on board. I will be recommending them to anyone who will listen and will certainly travel with them again. Read Less

Each excursion we took was fun and well done. The meals were beautifully prepared and there was always a wide variety to choose from. Each evening we would have entertainment before dinner and they were excellent. The cruise director was very knowledgeable and an absolute pleasure to deal with. Our hotels before and after the cruise were also great and the transfers to and from the airport and hotels and ship were seamless. We chose this cruise based on recommendations from friends and are so happy we listened. From beginning to end, our experience was wonderful! The ship itself was lovely - the cabin was spacious and comfortable and the common areas- lounge , dining room, sun deck and lobby were attractive, beautifully decorated and welcoming. The Freechoice tours and Enrichment events were well chosen to give a taste of the areas through which we travelled, and at each stop, the tour guides were enthusiastic and had a wealth of knowledge to share. The food was delicious and served beautifully - huge breakfast and lunch buffets and fine dining in the evening, as well as snacks any time of day and unlimited beverages of all kinds. The wifi was sporadic and slightly disappointing. However, the amazing staff/crew was the highlight of our trip! The cruise director, Beate, was incredible ....she seemed to be on duty at all hours of the day, making sure that everything ran smoothly and always available for a friendly chat or advice. Our butlers were always there to assist with anything we might need and were such good people! We had our favourite servers in the dining room and lounge and they made our cruise very special with their great personalities. Thanks to Vladis, Marius, Razvan and Danijela. Having wanted to visit Europe for many years, we wished a trip that would highlight areas of interest in a relaxing picturesque setting. This was a celebration of life: my birthday and our 45th wedding anniversary. Having travelled ocean cruises many times before, this manner of sailing was an opportunity to visit the locations we wished to see, meeting many wonderful people along the way, and not having the stress of making multiple arrangements. Staff were amazing adding to the overall experience. We felt like we were living in a fairytale. Entertainment on the ship and on tours was beyond anything that we've experienced on past travels, engaging participation and enjoyment of all. I can't say enough about the service we were given and the only complaint about the dining was 'too much' and 'too good'. I had the opportunity to experience a massage at the wellness centre to ease my aching muscles and Sisi was magical, enabling me to travel the journey home in comfort. Our cabin was always kept by Cristina immaculately. We were saddened to leave the ship but we have many memories from this trip that will long be remembered as our best journey yet, hoping to experience another memorable journey with Scenic in the future. Did the cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam in a junior suite. Embarking and Dis embarking easy. PROS: The butlers are awesome. Very polite, professional and on the ball. We had 2 meals were they served us, and they are fantastic. The ship was near new and the room excellent. Good bed. The house keeping was great. Room very clean. A couple of the special meals were excellent (the ones served by the butlers. I cant help but think that the chefs put in more effort for these meals compared to the normal day to day meals. Good selection of wine, beer and spirits included in package. The views are spectacular. Sitting on the top deck watching the Danube and Rhine River scenery roll by is fantastic. The push bikes. great fun to take out for a ride along the river bank. The on board gym while very small is good. There is a walking track on the top deck and a small pool. NEITHER HERE OR THERE: Buffet and other meals were a mixture of good to only average. Sometimes mains not hot, and wait staff didn't keep the buffet platters topped up. Despite some really good meals, the failures in other meals really drag dining down. Ships crew not always friendly. said hello a couple of times and got a hello back. Other times they just looked at you and ignored you. And it wasn't a language issue. Many of the on shore excursions are aimed at the older market which didn't suit me or my wife. But this is a personal observation and the older person may think the excursions are great. CONS: The wait staff were understaffed and under trained. Service was slow at times or non- existent. On a couple of occasions the waiters were just rude. In fact if we had of being at a on shore restaurant, we would have got up and walked out. And yes we did complain to the Tour Director. While some of the waiters were very good ( so it is a shame to include a couple of them in this assessment) overall the performance of the waiters was poor. i put it down to not having enough staff, inexperience and some of them who just didn't want to be there. I believe things would have been worse if a new Tour Director , Frank, hadn't come on board after a few days. But the damage had been done and even though service improved, it still wasn't the 5 star Scenic markets itself as. Waiter service overall 3 stars. Just not good enough. The final nights hotel that Scenic put us up in Amsterdam is not a luxury hotel. The rooms were standard, and i believe would struggle to scrap a 4 star rating. Given the price point of this cruise and the expectations of people going on this cruise, it felt cheap. While i have given this cruise 4 stars, i want to caveat that with the issue of the wait staff service which really dragged things down. Overall 3 stars for the Service category is generous. A couple of really good waiters and the excellent Butlers dragged the Service category rating up to 3 stars. Read Less

Friends recommended Scenic and this particular trip. Budapest to amsterdam. We were not disappointed at all...staff, cabins, food, excursions. Everything was taken care of. all we had to do was show up! Picked up by scenic and taken to airport with no hassle. we would definitely go again. Only complaint about excursions is they assume people love to shop! sometimes we were in town a bit to long and might have gone back to the ship earlier. They have 30 E bikes for passenger use. We took them out a number of times which was great. Second last day had a BBQ on the upper deck. Lots of fun for staff and passengers. Cruise director, Beate was amazing as was Frank the hotel manager. Food choices for everyone..lots of wine. Once you pay for the cruise...everything included. Which is great. Entertainment was nice, but not why we were there. Our Butlers Vlad, Marius and Ivan took great care of us. Razvan and Goren in the dining room...super. We havent done other river cruises so cant compare, but would recommend Scenic Read Less

We loved every aspect of the cruise. The service and attention to our every need as top priority for the crew. Once they knew what we wanted, we never had to ask for something again. It was always there for us without asking. The excursions were fun and enlightening, helping us to experience the culture of the communities we visited. The food was top quality. We particularly enjoyed La Rive with the white glove service. What we really liked is that everything was included. We didn't have to pay for excursions. The only costs for us were the souvenirs we purchased. The room was large and we loved being able to lower the windows in the balcony. Scenic had special cultural events only available to Scenic passengers that were very high caliber. From an Oktoberfest to Medieval banquet, to a symphony performance, we were always entertained. They managed the logistics perfectly. We often arrived at our ports early which gave us more time to enjoy our destinations. Read Less

This cruise was a bucket list item that sure didn't disappoint. The Scenic Jasper team was absolutely fantastic. Excursions along with the Scenic Enrich events made for a wonderful combination of opportunities to enhance the river cruise experience. There was a variety of options that allowed people to choose excursions that were of particular interest to them or there was always the opportunity to stay on the ship and enjoy even more of the great service. Superb service, great food, unlimited drinks and first rate entertainment all made for a cruise to remember. From meeting the Scenic rep at the airport prior to our cruise until we were dropped off at the airport at the end of the cruise, it was all first class. The relatively small number of passengers provided the opportunity to meet your fellow cruisers and develop new relationships that we hope will go on for a long time. The smaller River cruise ships provide an intimate venue that supports the ability to get to know your fellow passengers along with the entire crew. You felt like you were cruising with family. If you've never river cruised give it a try? If you want a truly first class cruise then make sure it's with Scenic. Read Less

We could not speak highly enough of the staff. From the cabin attendants through to the nautical crew were all very good. All displayed a great service attitude. The cruise manager (Beate) was the best I could imagine. Her staff were all highly trained hospitality professionals. There was always someone at reception to help with any questions. Nothing was too much trouble. There one a few minor improvements that we suggested such asan extra rail for the hand towel. Nothing very important. The on board entertainment was great and the shore excursions were all very well organised with very informative guides. Interesting places to visit. The bus drivers were all excellent. The buses were always on time and very comfortable. Best of all - they advertise the cruise as being all inclusive. It is. All food and drink (including top shelf) plus all excursions and gratuities were include. The only thing to spend on is souvenirs. Great trip. Highly recommended. Read Less

Travel agent suggested Scenic. She was right, Scenic is the best cruise for the money. Everything was included, tours, drinks, and tips. From the moment we embarked to the moment we sadly said au revoir, we loved it. The cabin was great, but we only slept there. We were kept busy with excursions, entertainment, new friends and great food. The service was first class all around. We had two special dinners on board. One was served by the butlers, explaining the different foods and the accompanying wines. The second was a five course dinner with a different wine for each course. It was like eating at a Michelin starred restaurant, and our chef should be applauded for his choice of menus and the quality of it. The excursions were great and with extra built into it, like concerts, dancers, and local food and drinks. If, no, when we take the next river cruise (Portugal?) we will definitely use Scenic Cruises. Read Less

Went on our first river cruise after many Cruise ship trips. We selected scenic since they advertise a fully inclusive experience. With the exception of our massages EVERYTHING was included except that we arranged our own air and pre hotel. We arrived a few days early in Amsterdam. When we arrived at the ship, we were checked in immediately and they greeted us as they removed our luggage from our taxi and delivered them directly to our cabin. The ship was clean and decorated very nicely. Our cabin was larger than we had on cruise ships with plenty of space for all our clothes and stuff. We had a balcony room that allowed extra seating as well. All rooms were assigned a "butler" to get anything we needed in addition to the room steward. From room service to morning or afternoon coffee/tea all was available. The min bar was refilled daily with anything we requested. Again all included. Each port had multiple excursion available all included. They ranged from hiking and using the on board bikes to trips for the easy walkers. The average age was 65 and 95% of the cruisers were active. Some cruisers were in their 40’s and the majority 50s and 60s. There were private concerts at different venues in port as well as local performances on board. The daily port talks were informative and allowed us to select which level of excursion we wanted in the following ports. The dining room had plenty of space and the food was tasty and the presentation was eye appealing. They were more than happy to cater to any special dietary needs. Daily they offered the daily special, Healthy alternative, Vegetarian meals . If you had any other special requests they were more than happy to accommodate if possible. In addition room service was available as well as the river café for lighter foods. Our cruise director Cathy was always there to make sure everything was perfect. If there were any complaints she was on top of everything to make sure it got corrected quickly. This is an Australian based company so the majority of passengers were from there which only enhanced our travel experience as Americans. We would definitely go on another river cruise with Scenic again Read Less

After much online research, we chose Scenic for our first river cruise! The all-inclusive aspect was very appealing as you do not have to pay extra for anything (except a massage or hairstyling) for the duration of the vacation. Of course you'll need money for souvenirs, and most importantly, always bring .50 euro coins to use the public restrooms in Europe. :) My husband and I are not fussy people and we go on vacation to enjoy ourselves, so we don't focus on seeing faults in the experience. That said here is my review. THE SHIP and CABIN: The Jasper is beautifully appointed. It's kept very clean and well maintained. Embarkation was easy and organized. We only waited a couple of minutes in the lounge, then after a quick check-in at reception, we were escorted by a butler to our cabin. Our cabin was clean and comfortable. Of course it is smaller than an ocean cruise cabin, but that was to be expected. It was well designed to make good use of the space. The bed was comfortable and the linens were SO soft and cozy. The closets were roomy enough for us, and there is plenty of room under the bed for suitcases, souvenirs, etc. The closet has a safe (large enough for a laptop), a mini fridge replenished daily with your choice of beverages. My husband requested some lime wedges to alway have on hand for his water and there was always a small bowl of them in the mini fridge. There are robes, slippers, personal size blanket, umbrella and walking sticks provided. Also, the Tailormade devices to use with a tour guide or touring on your own. Our balcony had 2 wicker chairs and a table. There is a retractable window for fresh air. The bathroom has a lighted make-up mirror, and enough shelf space. The shower was spacious with a great rainfall shower head and a handheld shower head and cool colored lighting. DINING: The food was delicious, reflecting the different areas we visited. Mostly buffet service for breakfast and lunch. Dinner was table service and more leisurely. A couple times it was too slow. All the special dinners on board and at on shore events was great. People normally changed clothes for dinner, but not very dressy except for a couple of special event nights. You really don't need to pack a lot of dressy clothes. SERVICE: The cruise director Cathy, and all the waitstaff, butlers, bar tenders, cabin cleaning service, reception, etc. were friendly and eager to please. Also, a shout out to our awesome captain and his mates who steered us expertly through very narrow locks and under low bridges! The champagne party on deck as we cruised through the beautiful lights of Budapest on our last night was phenomenal. I did not use the beauty salon, but I had a wonderful massage. ENTERTAINMENT: They brought regional musicians, dancers, etc on board on 5 or 6 evenings before dinner and they were very good! There is a piano player that performs every evening in the lounge. It was ok for background music. The concert and ballet dancers at Palais Lichtenstein in Vienna were fantastic! The pianist in Budapest after the city tour also was incredible. The Sound of Music show in Salzburg was lots of fun, with lovely views of the Alps. PORTS and EXCURSIONS: There was way too much to go into detail! The towns along these rivers are lovely and seem to take you back in time. Most of our tour guides were excellent and very knowledgable. The coach transports were nice. There was so much to do and Scenic arranged the tours beautifully! My husband was celebrating his 60th birthday on this trip. That night we had dinner and very funny medieval style entertainment in a castle. They surprised my husband with a dessert with sparklers on it, a card and gift, and everyone sang happy birthday, including the performers! Such a nice touch. The cruise was full of nice touches. PASSENGERS: Wow! What a fun and interesting group of people. We always had great dinner conversations and tours with them. By the end of the cruise, we were like one big family. They truly were a big part of our awesome experience. There were 134 or so passengers. The great majority were from Australia (Scenic is an Australian company), the others from the U.S, Canada and great Britain. Most people were in their 50s and 60s, a few younger and a few older. All were there to have a great time!!!! We certainly would like to travel with Scenic again. Read Less

We choose scenic for For the inclusiveness, excursions, meals, tipping, a more luxury experience. The cabin was quite comfortable (modern), cozy yet classy - the showers were amazing. It was also nice not to have to arrange inland tours and/or meals. The excursions gave you excellent overview of areas and enough free time to do a little independent exploring and shopping. The time options for on board meals were flexible. Not to mention the most excellent cappuccino machine named "Christine" ha, ha, ha Having the "plated" and served evening meals were a nice touch for a more gourmet experience and one was not tempted to over indulge with buffet!!!! The staff was extremely helpful and genuinely friendly. Don't be scared to take a down day from excursions. Don't forget to take full advantage of the sun deck, it's quite an expierence to sail through the countryside and sometimes neighbourhoods. I definately would do another river cruise (different destinations though) Read Less
