As a 40th anniversary trip. We made our own arrangements to get to Budapest and to return home from Amsterdam. We were told by Scenic UK to phone the Jade (which should have been our ship) to find her dock on the Monday. While out walking in Budapest on Sunday we saw the Scenic Jasper to ask if they knew where Jade was docking? The lady at reception looked bemused and said Jade is not due but made a phone call to check and said she was not due....she then asked for our name, then said we were due to board her ship Jasper the following day!! The ship had changed due to low water levels but we had not been notified. We complained via our travel agent about the lack of communication and eventually had a phone call from Scenic UK, the gist being that we had sorted ourselves out so what was the problem! Not exactly 5* customer service, especially as it cost us £14k+. Similar responses after the cruise...no real apology just excuses that HQ in Australia had the information but UK did not! Also our cabin was being changed so UK were waiting for detail....as far as I could tell, we had the same grade of cabin we had booked? They probably knew a week earlier of the ship change as that was probably the location where the ship change probably took place but they do not like to publish that!! We heard the return cruise from Amsterdam was likely to have 3 ship changes! Having said all that, we were on the Jasper for 1 week from Monday 23 July then met up with the Jade on Sunday 29 July. Both ships were excellent and the Cruise Director Cathy (Kathy) and the rest of the crew were all hardworking and friendly with great service. Ship change was so slick although all the suitcases had to be repacked and they were taken from our cabin and were waiting for us on the Jade!! We just went on our tour for the day and were taken back to the Jade! Excursions were well-organised and included more than usually described. Would happily recommend the cruise and ships but not the back-up organisation in UK, etc. Will not be using them again, life is too short! Read Less

Gems of The Danube is marketed as 3 days in Prague and then join the Jasper in Nuremberg for a Danube cruise to Budapest. We signed up in August of 2017, paid and arrived in Prague on time. The transportation provided from airport to Prague was delayed because some passengers were late. The area is small, hot, no explanations, no offer to move us to an air-conditioned motor coach, no offer of bottled water - nothing. My husband inquired of a cab and our inquiry was ignored. We finally got transportation to Prague and arrived at the hotel. The accommodations in Prague are nice, The Imperial, typical European style hotel. We were there for 3 nights. The first night there was a welcome meeting with a class of wine and a walking tour of the area. The other Scenic sponsored tour while in Prague was again, a walking tour. No worries we hired a car and had a wonderful tour of Prague. There were signs early on that something was amiss. The Scenic staff were all a bit vague regarding details. Our guide said he needed to leave ahead of the group to meet other travelers and passed us off to another woman working for Scenic. She rode the coach with us and informed us that morning that we would not be going to Nuremberg and we would not be on the Jasper. She assured us that the only difference between the Jasper and our newly assigned ship would be the name, Jade. The water levels were low and we would not go to Nuremberg, but to Regensburg. None of the travelers seemed concerned, until guide and driver got lost looking for the ship. When we finally arrived we had to walk about 300 yards along an unpaved path to reach the Jade, which was not exactly in Regensburg, but we could glimpse the skyline if we tried. We went to the lounge area and experienced the most cursory greeting from the hotel manager, captain, and cruise director. It's clear to us all now that the company was well aware that we would not be on the ship long and they were all noticeably nervous and in the instance of the Cruise Director, very short tempered. Those on the Diamond Deck are invited to dine at Table La Rive, that is if you are on the ship long enough to enjoy such an invitation. The sundeck was only opened for use on the evening that we were told we would be enjoying the rest of the trip from a bus! Check out my pics of the sundeck. Good Timing. The idea of a butler for every cabin, forget it. These folks are far too busy with the duties of being waiters and bartenders to actually assist in your cabin. Those Scenic spaceship balcony, not! It's a tiny window and when you open it the air-conditioning immediately shuts off and you swelter. If you are looking for group meals, long lines, buffets style dining, long bus rides and cruise companies that prefer to keep you in the dark, then this is your company. We rode on a bus for nearly 8 hours on our way from Vienna to Budapest, we passed our hotel 3 times so we could see the sights from a bus window. The group lunch was at a Hungarian park that our city guide described as his children's favorite playground. he asked if we noticed the wooden fort and castle on the playground, his children love it. No thank you for me and my group. Read Less

It was recommended by our travel agent. We were not sure where to go and she thought this would be a good change. We especially enjoyed the music concert at the Palace Lichenstien. The lunch at the oldest restaurant in Salzburg which dates back to the 1400's was a real treat. We participated in the 35km bike ride along the Danube and that was truly special Ship - very nice and intimate Cabin - small but all that was needed Dining - all our meals were delicious especially the Table de Rive Entertainment - only one night was really good and that was Trivia night Ports and excursions - all were good Tips - if doing the 35km bike ride ensure to bring plenty of water and something to snack on as we got very hungry. We would definiately do another river cruise. Staff was excellent and we were taken care of from start to finish. Not a care in the world !!!! Read Less

The ship was beautiful. The common rooms were large and inviting! The restaurant food was good 3.5/4 out of 5, but the waitstaff was amazing!!!! The food presentation was lovely! The portions were good sized, meaning non-American portions which was a good thing! The alcohol was top brands and a nice to even a heavy pour. The wine was lovely at every meal. The dining experience was great! The staff made every effort to help you find a wine you liked at dinner, but usually this wasn't necessary as their picks were terrific. Our boat was approx 1/4 Australians, 1/4 Americans, 1/4 Canadians and 1/4 Brits. It was a great mix and we loved meeting people from all over! The excursions were great! One negative was that I would have appreciated less time on a bus to get to a destination for an excursion. Sometimes up to 2 hours each way. When we were in Vienna, instead of touring Vienna we bussed an hour or so away. We had time to explore Vienna on our own time, but it would have been nice to have a guided tour. Another great thing: E Bikes! So one day the boat cruised for 22 miles / 35 km and passengers had the option of riding with guides that distance using Ebikes! They were great, even though the terrain was fairly level, if you fell a little behind, you could turn on the battery feature and speed up to catch up! Also, one thing to consider when thinking about a river cruise. Water level. We didn't think of this. The Danube is a shallow river and when we hit the port of Passau, Germanry, we were grounded. The Danube was only 30 cm deep as Europe was experiencing a bit of a draught. We couldn't finish the cruise. So we stayed in Passau instead of continuing onto Regensburg and Nuremberg. The staff are great when this happens and they just go with it, but for the passengers, it's kind of a disappointment! One reason we chose this line is that it was an all inclusive. No tipping, no charge for excursions, alcohol, etc. You know.... There truly were no additional charges. They did have massage therapist on staff as well as some spa items, but it wasn't really pushed or advertised. Evening entertainment was a wonderful pianist who entertained those who stuck around in the lounge. A couple of nights, the cruise company brought in local dancing talents which was fun to see. The scenic crew was amazing and worked hard to give us a week to remember. The food and drinks were great, staff was incredible and the scenery tours top notch. The cabins are small, so two weeks would have been too long for us, but the one week cruise was perfect! The excursions were fun and well planned and the 35km bike trip was our favourite. There is not a lot of activities planned onboard the ship, so you have to be able to relax and watch the sights. The buses for the excursions were very nice with big windows and air conditioning and this was very enjoyable as well. All the scenic guides had great english and were very knowledgeable about the places we toured. We liked that they seemed to all have a great sense of humour which made them fun to listen too. We carried on to Prague and the scenic staff followed and made everything go smoothly there as well. We will defiantly be back!!! Read Less

We chose Scenic after attending one of their local presentations and after extensive research. We were not disappointed. Their attention to detail and providing us with the best experience we have ever had, was exceptional. The crew working as a team did an amazing job in providing us quality comfort. After understanding the efforts of the captain, cruise director and crew to assure the cruise and lock timings, we have a great appreciation for their achievements in making sure our experiences occurred seamlessly. The excursions choices and tour guides were very good and enriched us with a flavour and appreciation of the towns and countries we travelled through. The food was nothing short of exceptional, in quality, quantity and presentation as was the service. Our room attendant and butler were very friendly and accommodating, a service many overlook...but not us. A job well done and appreciated. A big hand to our cruise director Eric, who kept the happy travellers engaged and looking forward to each day. He did an exceptional job, again seamlessly to us, in orchestrating the our cruise and making sure our voyage experience was so pleasureable and memorable. Overall this was a fantastic experience that was made so by a great crew and organization right from the admin staff who arranged our trip to the ship crew and staff and the excursion tour staff as well. We would highly recommend Scenic to our friends and look forward to another Scenic experience in the future. (***We have one concern we would like to share with you. During our cruise, there was a group, that behaved less than satisfactory. They were loud at times and seem to monopolize the small swimming pool, much to the disappointment of others who wanted to use the pool. This was fuelled by large quantities of alcohol. They also captured more that adequate service from staff at the expense of other travelers. We are concerned that this group, based on the type of experience they would relay to friends, would encourage others who feel unending supply of alcohol and attention, is the reason to take a Scenic cruise. We are sure that you would agree with us, that this is not the path that Scenic would like to take as it would greatly jeopardize the quality experience Scenic portrays. We hope that Scenic examines this occurrence and puts into place well ahead of time, actions to correct this behaviour before it becomes a negative irritation to others and tarnishes the experience.) Beyond this...the experience was nothing short of exceptional! Thank you, Scenic. Read Less

Did a Scenic cruise last year for my first river cruise and was totally impressed. Have over 25 ocean cruises in the past. When Scenic talks about all inclusive, there are no hidden surprises. After 15 days on the ship, my check out invoice was $0. We ate every meal, went on outstanding excursions every day with local guides, took advantage of completely open bar 24/7, sent out laundry, enjoyed all the services of an outstanding crew who were completely paid in advance, including tips, as part of the package. There was wonderful entertainment both on board and in ports. Ship and cabin are pristine. It is hard to believe the quality of food that comes out of a galley that is restricted in size by the maximum size appropriate for river boats. I am hard pressed to come up with anything that I believe could have been better. Given the opportunity, I will definitely do another trip with Scenic. Read Less

This is our second cruise on Scenic. We cruised on the Scenic Amber last year down the Danube and it was wonderful. This years cruise on the Jasper down the Rhine was very good BUT......... not as good as last year. Last year Scenic used their own buses for the entire cruise. This year the contracted out to local bus companies. The service was spotty. Some were very good and right on time, some were just ok and ran late. The transfer service from Zurich to the ship was poor. Scenic told us to arrive in Zurich no later than 1:00 PM. Most international flights arrive early morning. When we got our final paperwork 3 weeks before the start of the cruise we were told airport pickup would not be until 2:00PM. This ment we would have to sit in the baggage area in the airport for 5 hours (after an 8 hour flight). After several emails and phone calls, Scenic provided a van for us and 3 other couples. It was an extremely uncomfortable 2 hour ride. The rest of the passengers all arrived at the same time on 3 buses. Not well planned. The service seemed to be out of sinc. Not as smooth as our previous cruise. The food was definitely not 5 star gourmet. Breakfast and lunch were buffet style. The food was no better than good. Dinners were better but not “5 star”. An 8 day - 7 night cruise is actually a 6 day cruise since days 1 & 8 are travel days. Unless you see 2 days in the first port, don’t expect to see much of that stop unless you plan on a pre or post cruise stay.. Read Less

Embarkation was moved to Breisach from Basal, but it was not a big inconvenience. The cruise was wonderful. It was our first river cruise and our expectations were exceeded in every area. The staff was phenomenal; the service superb. I can't think of anything more they could have done to make us feel special from the Captain, the Cruise Director, Reception, waiters, housekeeping....all. The food was out of this world every single day, and every single meal. Our special treat was an evening of Italian cuisine in Portobellos. The tours were memorable...hard to pick a favourite but we totally enjoyed Siegfried's Musikkabinett Museum, an evening with the most entertaining opera singers at Rastatt Palace, and the beautiful Cologne Cathedral. Our tour guides were so knowledgeable, entertaining, and funny! We made some lasting friendships with other passengers and enjoyed some relaxation time between tours. Choices were endless..you could stay on board and relax; do self tours, or join one of 3 other tours offered almost every day. Entertainment on ship was really good. Enzo was amazing, and other entertainers brought onboard were excellent. I also enjoyed a wonderful spa experience before leaving ship. We were so pleased, we haven't stopped looking at the tours for 2020. Well done Captain and Crew of Scenic Jasper! Read Less

I have been on other ocean cruises & river cruises and this time chose Scenic as I was told it was premium quality and a step up from the other European river cruise companies. So maybe my expectation was too high as so far this is no better than Gate One cruises which are about half the costing. The food is ok but nothing superior. The service is mediocre and could be improved. As an example - the first day when you arrive you are told to go and have a drink in the lounge and they will call you when your cabin is ready. This was just not true. We waited & waited like all the others but then noticed that all you needed to do was go and register with your passport and you could get your key. This was frustrating and others were also not sure of the process. Another example was on day 2 in Cologne when we asked a Scenic person helping the scan out process - where did we go for the castle tour or where did we go for the city your? The Scenic people didn’t know but just wanted to scan us off the ship. Fortunately outside there were guides who we could ask and get some sort of help. It’s not realy a big problem but definitely nothing ‘superior’ about the Scenic service or Scenic food . So in summary ,the only advantage for the extra money you pay is the free minibar and drinks being available all through the day at no cost. Next time I would save a couple of thousand dollars and book with one of the medium priced cruises on offer. Read Less

After believing that Scenic was a 5 star river cruise company we were very disappointed with the trip. The dinner on the first night took 2 1/2 hours - every food order was misidentified, hot soups were cold, entrees were cold, ice cream had melted - the worst dinner in my life. We complained and the timing of service improved but the overall food quality was mediocre, the size of the entree portion was miniscule - 1 carrot, 1 small slice of potato and 1 or 2 oz of meat for example. if you just wanted an entree with no other courses you had to wait 1 1/2 hrs. Everybody had to eat dinner at the same time so everything was bogged down. We could only get cabins on the lower level when we booked and they were tiny and claustrophobic and very noisy when trying to sleep due to river water noise on the hull. We had asked twice before the cruise about docking details on Mannheim so we could meet with relatives. The information was wrong and we had to scramble to change plans with a lot of stress. However, the cruise director was terrific in resolving the situation despite the incompetence of Scenic head office. Overall we will never use Scenic again. Read Less

This was our first taste of river cruising and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! We met many new friends on the cruise from different countries and hope to keep in touch. The Jasper ship was very comfortable and luxurious. Bathrooms were spacious and great water pressure and hot water! Our assigned butler for our suite was even able to provide a one time complimentary laundry service: picked up and delivered to our room. We booked a deluxe balcony suite on the second level that had a large window that could be lowered and raised with the touch of a button! Great way to enjoy the beautiful scenery from our balcony and to hear the waves lap along the ship from the comfort and privacy of our room. Dining was all inclusive with much variety at the breakfast and lunch buffet. You could also order certain items off the menu. The dining room waiters/waitresses worked hard to please the guests. However, we did notice that certain tables received more attention than others. The head waiter was always friendly and if he noticed someone was not receiving what they needed, he would be there immediately to provide the required service. Each guest also had an invitation to the Italian Porto Bella restaurant, a private sit-down dinner for a small group with choices from a set menu. Delicious! My husband and I are foodies and we love fine wine. There were some excellent wines served but there were also some mediocre ones. The highlight of our tour was our e-bike cycling tour and the reception and private performance at the Rastatt palace from two very talented opera singers! Local English-speaking tour guides for our shore excursions were very knowledgeable about the history and culture of their villages and people. In terms of scenery, Strasbourg was our favorite city. We also enjoyed the spa services onboard and the massage we received from an excellent therapist. He certainly got rid of the sore neck and shoulders I received from our flight from Canada to Europe. Overall, a very memorable trip and we are now hooked on river cruising! We look forward to a future Scenic cruise. Read Less

We wanted a five star experience to celebrate our birthdays and wedding anniversary. The decor and rooms lived up to our expectations. Clean and modern designs. The staff overall were attentive and helpful. What let the experience down was the food. It was not five star or near, at times the food was served cold or just warm not hot. Presentation of food could have been more imaginative and better put together. After a number of complaints from different people the food in regards temperature did improve. I am not that bothered for sweet food, which was just as well as the menu was limited. It would not take a lot to improve the menu and dining experience. The beverages were fine, plenty of choice of good wines. I enjoyed the tours and had no complaints regarding these. Would I book again with Scenic, yes, but I would look for last minute deals. We paid full price for this cruise which in my opinion given the food was over priced. Read Less

I would highly recommend this cruise to others, especially in the 60+ age bracket. The only complaint I had was that the scrambled eggs at breakfast and some of the sauces had too much salt. Breakfast was easily overcome by ordering from the menu or having an omelet. This was a wonderful cruise. Our cruise director, Eric, did everything possible to ensure we had the best possible time. I also liked the fact that everything was paid up front so I did not have to keep opening my wallet. I would definitely cruise with this line again. The staff were so friendly and attentive. I definitely felt spoiled. We did not add any days before or after the cruise so we were on a tight timeline but Scenic made it work, no issues at the airports, just a seemless vacation experience. I would definitely do another cruise with them in the future. Read Less

We chose this cruise due to it's interesting combination of ports as well as the date. This was our second river cruise - our first was on Viking. We chose Scenic for our second cruise for several reasons: The enrichment activities seemed interesting The electric-assist bikes The potential to do tours on our own using the GPS devices (Scenic Tailormade) Overall we thought the cruise features as well as the cruise staff indicated a good intent, but execution was lacking in several areas. In particular they had significant issues at dinner. Since dinner is very important on cruises overall rating reflects issues in this area. We spent 1 night at a hotel in Nuremberg to recover from jet-lag. The hotel selected by Scenic (Le Meridian) was in an excellent location, allowing easy access to the old city. Embarkation was very smooth. Embarkation was smooth as to be expected on a river-cruise. We were guided to the lounge to wait for check-in. My wife and I noticed we were not offered champagne like other who had arrived on a large bus but we didn't feel it was a big deal. Excursions were similar to what we had seen on Viking. Bus transportation was efficient. The guides were very knowledgeable but tended to go longer/slower than my wife and like but we realize they have to cater to all types. Scenic did an excellent job accommodating those who could not walk well without slowing down the others. As an example, in one venue there was a long walk to the bus. They had a van to shuttle those who needed it to the bus which was nice. We enjoyed the ScenicEnrich concert. The small orchestra was very talented and the singers/dancers good as well. We also enjoyed the night sailing in Budapest to see the lights. In Regensburg we tried the Scenic Tailormade to do a self-guided tour. The concept is intriguing - it shows a map of the town with the interesting sites. When you get to a site you can select it and get commentary. The reality was that the commentary was very silly and irritating. During a day cruise the cruise director put on the commentary over the loudspeakers and this was much better so perhaps it was just the commentary for Regensburg. It was nice seeing Nuremberg but in the end may not have been worth it - when sailing away from Nuremberg you are in a canal for a day with not much to see and only the front of the sundeck open due to low bridges. Breakfast and lunch were served buffet style, and there was a lot of different choices. We also saw wait staff respond well to cruisers with dietary needs. I would rate the quality of the food good for these meals. They insisted on serving coffee to everyone at breakfast, and sometimes it could take a while to get coffee (up to 10 min) when you first sat down with your food. Toward the end of the cruise we would find a waiter with the coffee and ask him to serve us. I've never had to do that at a Denny's much less what is supposed to be a nice eating atmosphere. The coffee machine in the lounge made excellent Cafe Americano and a couple of times I was tempted to walk over there to get my coffee! Service and quality of food at dinner, however, became a big irritation on this cruise. On the whole the appetizers and desserts were good to very good. The entrees and soups were VERY bland. The worse part of dinner was the wait to get the entree. There were many cases where 2 tables would be seated at approximately at the same time, but one table would be served much faster, to the point where one table would be finishing dessert and the other hadn't been served their entree. It really came to a head on the night the chef-recommended entree was chateaubriand. We had to wait ~30 minutes to get the entree. The steak was cooked to a correct doneness, but had no spice (not even salt), was very dry and chewy. It was the worst steak I have had in my life. I asked other passengers about this and they said similar things. The quality of service at dinner ended up being talked about during the cruise because it had become so irritating over the week. We met some nice people from the UK and noticed they always sat at the same table. When we asked why they replied they seemed to get the food faster there! On the last night of the cruise a woman walked over to another table to check if they had received their entrees as her table had been waiting so long. I've never seen that before on a cruise. In one case my wife ordered coffee after dinner - after waiting 15 minutes we left. Note that even when service was OK dinners lasted between 90 minutes and 2 hours so I am not expecting fast-food service! I believe the issue may be the kitchen having to support two distinct menus - the main dining room and Table Le Rive. Service was better at Portobellos when we ate there though the food really wasn't as special as they seemed to think it was. I spoke to the hotel manager about the service situation and he was very open to the feedback but in the end something needs to be done as it became a big irritation. We also saw slow service at times in the lounge. The waiters were working hard, and the bartender was fast, but it would take a while to be served when you first arrived. There just didn't seem to be enough wait staff. I started going directly the the bar to get quicker service. Quality of liquor choice was good (eg, single malt Scotch included Glenfiddich and Glenmorangie). The cruise director seemed very friendly when giving his port talks. I would say however that he tended to over-sell things like the food was unbelievably good and the excursions life changing. It's better to undersell and over-deliver. In private conversation he could seem off-putting and gave the impression you were interrupting what he was doing. I understand his position is difficult and it could be a cultural issue but other passengers remarked about this as well. He did arrange a private tour of Budapest for my wife and I, and that went fine. Read Less

This Scenic Cruise was recommended by our travel agent who understands our tastes and preferences for quality vacations. There was little flexibility on our dates, we booked only 2 months in advance so our best option was the Danube cruise from Budapest to Nuremberg. We were very impressed with the outstanding all inclusive service, fine organization, quality of the dining, most guides, excursions and our overall experience on the JASPER. Every attempted was made to satisfy our every need. Daniel our personal Butler was delightful. Dinner service would have been enhanced by a few extra severs to help with the work load. The ‘Tailor Made’ devices worked very well when we had live guided tours but not well at all on the self guided tours. They are a great idea but need more refinement to become user friendly and a helpful navigational aid rather than a frustration. My husband suffers from motion sickness; the stability of the river boat was superb and he had no issues. There were great options for day trips. Nora, our guide in Budapest was delightful as was Veronica on our tour of the Belvedere. I particularly loved biking along the Danube which was executed to perfection and would have enjoyed even more options for physical activities. We loved the intimate size of the boat and the limited number of guests on this cruise. This was our first experience on a river cruise, I hope it isn’t our last. Read Less

We chose Scenic in part, from a recommendation by our Travel Agent (M. Gaw of Vision Travel) and a local presentation by the company. We wanted a slightly ‘up-scale’ cruise. We liked the idea of a European river cruise to minimize our time in coaches and not having to change hotels every night or two with all that implies. The number of people on the ship was to our liking. It is a group tour done “better”. See fewer countries but at a better pace. This particular cruise fit into our dates available, length of cruise (8 days) with the 3-day Prague extension but also, the trip went to an area we have wanted to explore for some time (Austria/Czech). The flexibility of the included excursions and the availability of E-bikes were an added feature we very much liked. In addition, the help from our travel agent to make sure all the deatils were included and explained along with other factors (early arrival, organization of air travel, etc.), made our confirmation of this choice easy. The use of Marriott hotels at both locations (Budapest and Prague) were great. The whole trip, from the early arrival to departure went extremely smoothly. We were extremely happy with the Scenic Jasper ship but more importantly, in our opinion, the crew were fabulous from the cruise director through the wait staff, were the best. Our cabin was perfect for us. The quality of the food but especially the bar were ‘top-notch’ with real champagne, great domestic and imported wines and a good selection of single malt. Cabin and cruise service(s) were teriffic even if we ‘under-used’ these amenities. We met some very nice and interesting people from around the world and were happy to be on board with other French and English Canadians, people from Great Britian and the USA. The excursion choices were a treat and the ‘guides’ friendly and knowledgeable. Their local knowledge reflected pride in their contries/cities which we very much liked. For the most part, they went out of their way on each excurison to ensure we had a pleasant day. The highlight for us was the Ebike trip but it was over too soon and could use a bit of ‘tweaking’ for a better day. True, we were perhaps too many people in one group (38). It may have been better in two (or more) groups if sufficient guides were available but all in all, we really enjoyed the Ebike tour. One negative for us was the slight rush in between and during the excurisons but we understand that they wanted to cover as much as possible where we would rather see less but spend more time. While we did not travel with children (and none were on board), we would suggest that theis mode of travel would suit kids to broaden their horizons on other cultures. The Prague extension was a treat. While a rough entry to our downtown hotel due to traffic (again the Marriott), once we settled, in it was perfectly situated to explore the old town and all that it has to offer. We would definitely recommend the Prague extension. Except for the (sometimes) ‘sea of humanity’, it was still a fantastic place to visit. As you can expect, we highly recommend this trip and this company and really found little to no fault. We would definitely take another Scenic crusie to explore other areas of Europe but maybe other parts of the world. Read Less

Our agent said Scenic was the best and I believe it was. The ship was top of the line; the crew and service couldn’t have been better. I travelled with my adult daughter. We had separate beds. We chose this trip because of my interest in history and music. The main cities where we spent time fitted in with those interests. Budapest, Vienna, Salzburg, and Prague were all wonderful places to visit. The meals on board were excellent. The guides on shore trips were first rate. After leaving the boat in Nuremberg we went to Prague by bus.All of the buses that were used to get us from the boat to the various short destinations on the cruise were luxury vehicles. Everything connected with the cruise was extremely well organized. We didn’t need them but they were always available- walking sticks and umbrellas. There was nothing to criticize. We were well pleased with all aspects of the trip Read Less

We chose this cruise because it offered everything we wanted to see and do that many of the other River Cruise operators miss out. It was truly 5 star service all the way. The ship was beautiful, cabin excellent (top deck) food delicious - and thank goodness we were not surrounded by an endless stream of food. Breakfast, lunch and dinner was all you needed but you only had to ask for anything in between and it was specially prepared - not something that had stood on a buffet for 24 hours! The shore excursions were excellent and well organised and we saw so many wonderful sights on our 15 day Rhine, Maine and Danube cruise not to mention the extra Scenic enrich excursions which were fabulous. Every member of staff was courteous, the Captain was visible and did a splendid job of negotiating the huge locks with hardly an inch to spare on either side, I held my breath at times, and the Cruise Director Adrian, did an amazing job of keeping all guests informed of what had gone on that day and what was to come the next day via his nightly 'Port talk. He was helpful, always visible and at times extremely funny. A great person to spend 15 days with. On board activities and entertainment was tasteful and varied. My husband and I were celebrating our Golden Wedding Anniversary and can honestly say we enjoyed every moment of our celebration. I was prompted to write this review 12 months after our trip, because I was reading some rather negative reviews of cruises taken later in the summer of 2018 (we travelled in May) - so many negative reviews because of the weather, well tough I say..... river cruises are always subject to the conditions of the river and one should be prepared to take this into account at the time of booking. We chose Scenic as it came highly recommended, we had relatives who were going so we thought we would join them. We were told that Scenic has high end ships and service so we’re looking forward to our cruise. Perhaps our hopes were too high. The food was anything but high quality, just average and some nights not even that. We have been on several ocean cruises and enjoyed excellent food so thought that the food on this smaller river cruise would be the same not so. The crew for the most part did not seem happy, nervous and up tight. There were a couple of crew members that put a lot of effort into their jobs. Adrian and Milos. Our cabin Stewart we saw when we arrived and the only time after that was when he was helping out in the dining room. Was it an alright cruise yes was it a high end cruise no. Read Less

We chose Scenic for our first river cruise, which was a 60th birthday celebration for my sister. There were 3 couples in our group, ranging in age from 45 to 62. It appeared the average age of the other passengers was closer to 70. From the initial booking/reservation experience right through to disembarkation, the Scenic team provided outstanding service. They took care of our every need and request. Very impressive. The ship was extremely clean, as were our cabins. I honestly could not believe how our cleaning lady managed to keep the glass shower enclosure so spotless. We had one of the few basic cabins on board without a balcony. Because of the itinerary, we felt the extra expense of balcony rooms would not be worth it and we do not regret our decision. Our cabins were on the small side (170 sq ft) but adequate and clean. The food ranged from very good to excellent. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style and the selection choices were excellent. I really appreciated the Moet & Chandon champagne mimosas! You also had the option of ordering from the menu (eggs bennie, lamb chops, etc.) if nothing from the buffet tickled your fancy. Dinner was always from the menu. Although the portion sizes were small, it didn't matter as you could order an unlimited amount of food. The small portion sizes were an added bonus as it meant the larger eaters at our table could try out several different appetizers, mains, and desserts! Everything we ordered, with the exception of the beef main in Portobello's, were perfect. The beef main course at Portobello's was served well done and I like my beef medium rare. In the chef's defense I didn't specify my preference. Excursions were another highlight of the trip. All were excellent and well organized. We especially appreciated the special cultural immersion options. Truly unique experiences! The only negative about this river cruise was the lack of on board activities. Besides the one lounge and bar (rather nicely appointed) there were no other areas to hangout. Because of the cold damp weather the outdoor top deck wasn't really an option. We've traveled on several ocean cruises and really love the entertainment and activity choices offered on those. Read Less

Travelled with scenic for my first River Cruise with my Mom. Scenic exceeded our expectations and more. Everything was perfect from the time we arrived in Amsterdam to the time we departed. The company is very customer service focused ensuring that everyone's needs are met. The itinerary was well planned out with lots of variety for active or sedentary folks. The communications about the daily activity and other topics was very good. Can't say enough about the cruise director and the entire Scenic staff - The ship was new, clean and modern compared to other boats I saw on the water. The food was great - lots of variety for healthy eating including vegetarian options. I like the fact that you can choose between buffet or a menu for all meals. Nice touch to do the Table la Riva and Portebella's for guest to offer a different dining experience. Was pleasantly surprised at the mix of people/ages on the boat - some in their 50's, 60's and above (even a few in their forties :) Will definitely travel with Scenic again! Read Less

This was our second river cruise with Scenic, the first being an 8 day Danube in 2016 where all the stops were pulled out, from roses presented to each guest upon arrival to constant phenomenal onboard and offship evening entertainment to very personalized cabin service. So we had a benchmark for comparison on this cruise at tulip time on Netherlands/Belgium route. We were overall somewhat disappointed. Embarkation was smooth but no roses or even tulips this time. Varied buffet meals, snack bar, dinner foods nicely presented, food ranging from average to very good in quality. Excellent table service. Same evening cocktail lounge singer with digital background noise quickly became monotonous, but staff did their best with limited resources to make our evenings onboard enjoyable. Lounge seating could have been more comfortable. Excellent day tour options. 2nd deck balcony suite spacious, well appointed bathroom, comfortable bed. Butler and cabin attendant kept low profile, not sure they even recognized us after check in introduction. In general we did not feel the value or quality of experience was up to what we know Scenic can produce. It certainly lacked the feeling of absolute luxury we enjoyed on the Danube river cruise and we doubt we would travel with them again. Read Less

This cruise was advertised as a 5-star cruise with world-class delicious meal. We certainly paid the cost for a 5-star cruise, but the food was 2-star!! We booked this Christmas cruise 18 months ahead of time. It had the makings of a great cruise. Great destinations, lovely Christmas markets, great Tour Guide, Richard, great Butler Robert and the major of the crew provided very good service. But the food!!!! We had travelled on Scenic before and could make a comparison about the food. Problems: Luke-warm a lot of the time Lack of healthy options for lunch in River Café (eg. fresh fruit and vegetable juices, interesting healthy salads). We usually found it was watery soup, ordinary pasta or sandwiches. Some meals were better than others. Few meals that related to the countries we visited. Little Christmas food types. A couple of biscuit types but nothing special. Christmas lunch was buffet style with all the passengers in one sitting. We had to wait a very long time for a few prawns. There were no Christmas crackers, no roast Christmas dinner, no delicious Christmas pudding or other Christmas slices or rum balls. This was very disappointing. When our friends and family asked about the cruise, we had them how disappointing this had been. Other friends suggested we try APT where the food was good. The day was only saved by the good company on board. The alcohol was free flowing. Too free flowing at times where you had to ask the waiter what was the wine that they constantly tried to fill up your glass with. The ship ran out of some of the wines at times. They also ran out of some of the cocktail mixes and liquors at times. We both had one cocktail each on the cruise, but it had far too much alcohol in it and it lacked finesse. When we asked to pay for a very good bottle of champagne for Christmas the choice was one and ordinary. On returning home and looking at Cruise Critic we realised that Scenic Jasper had had other complaints about the food. We complained to our travel agent and there was no compensation of any kind from Scenic. We would certainly think twice about using Scenic again, unless the quality of the food improves. Read Less

The ship itself was very nice and the itinerary from Amsterdam to Budapest was excellent. The Cruise Director, Richard was very organised, had a good sense of humour and always conducted himself in a professional manner. You were never in any doubt as to what was going on, where you had to be, or timings. However, the dining on board was absolutely dreadful. Waiting staff did their best but food on the buffet and served at the table was cold. There was a poor selection of wines. If you discovered a wine you enjoyed, you were told, they no longer had it! White wine was often served warm as the bottles were not kept chilled. They ran out of Baileys and then, they ran out of champagne!! Christmas Lunch was an absolute disgrace, we had to queue for 35 minutes for 4 prawns, and a further 20 minutes for a few slices of cold turkey and a few cold cubes of roast potatoes. That was our Christmas meal!! There was no gammon in the serving dish, or cranberry sauce. This was our first European River Cruise and we thought when we booked, we had found a 5 star company, on a par with Seabourn, the company who we do Ocean cruising with. However, this was not the case. The whole dining experience was terrible. Scenic promote themselves as 5 star, offering sumptuous, gourmet fine dining, this is definitely, not what you get. Read Less
