We've river-cruised before but have never been on the Danube or to Budapest, Vienna and Prague. This itinerary seemed to fit all requirements and the cruise company was highly recommended. Excellent marks for the staff and service; the land tours were spot on and the local tour guides were exceptionally knowledgeable; the dining arrangements and food were very good with an excellent chef and staff - all very warm, welcoming and friendly, meeting customers, not out-of-site. Highlights of the itinerary for me were Salzburg and the 3-day extension in Prague - extra days would have been even better. For such a supposedly top-quality all-inclusive company, the range and quality of wines was quite disappointing. I realise Scenic try to incorporate local food and wines but this area is not known for top wines (apart form a few German ones) and being an Australian company situated in Europe with many US and UK customers, I expected more wine choices from Australia, France, NZ or USA. After several days I found out there were some other options available (also limited and not top quality) but this was not widely communicated; it seemed they were being kept secret. We had paid for a top-deck deluxe suite but the Scenic practice of mooring alongside their sister ship (Pearl) meant that we could not use our balcony because there was a bedroom of the Pearl very adjacent. We also had to keep the curtains closed whilst using the cabin which was not acceptable for this standard of cruising. I may consider travelling with Scenic again but I will not take another river cruise with them. I need better views from my balcony - and much better wines at this price! Read Less

Then everything is included so I spent 7 euros in a week When you consider the amount of excellence received and wanted for nothing Cabin was spacious and well appointed with huge tv and luxury bedding with a bathroom fully stocked with fluffy towels and la octane toiletries The butler service was great with warm attentive service with wonderful treats and breakfast Delivered daily if you prefer to relax watching the river pass from wonderful open balcony I had good agent too who was excellent in making arrangements for me Read Less

Overall a top drawer experience. Very little to fault. Felt the tour guide in Budapest was a bit difficult to follow at times, but all other guides were professional, knowledgeable, and entertaining. Chef and dining room staff superb. Also a big thank you to the support staff e.g. cabin crew and cleaning staff. The excursions were spot on in terms of local interest. Coach journeys were sometimes a little lengthy, but you can't do anything about the geographical location of the Danube! The evening entertainment was pleasant, and although the pianist/ guitarist was good, sometimes peace and quite is a preferred option (Americans guests are noisy enough). The Tour Director, although sometimes tested to the limit, was calm and professional, and kept the whole excursion running like clockwork, He should be made Chief Executive of Scenic immediately. We will sail with you again, when we have saved up a few pounds. Would 100% recommend Scenic to all our friends. Read Less

We wish we had started one or two days earlier in Bucharest, it is a beautiful city and much better than we expected. The spaceship was fantastic, it looks the part and, boy it is the part. The welcome onboard was 5 star we were greeted royally and nothing disappointed us. We had high expectations and they were fully met and on occasions significantly exceeded. We had a cabin on the top deck ( balcony suite). The suite had everything we needed, everything is so cleverly designed to maximise the space and make everything easily accessible. The crew were fantastic nothing was too much trouble and the service was impeccable as was the quality and presentation of the food. The onboard entertainment is limited but enjoyable - this is not a big ship, 160 or so people, and people get to know each other quickly and tend to chat away whilst enjoying the complimentary drinks. The shore excursions are varied, you usually had 3 to choose from and there was always at least one that suited us. The Scenic Enrich events were great - we went to a local home for a real Bulgarian dinner, it was a great experience! What we most loved was the fact that we never needed money from the moment the driver picked us up from home until he dropped us back home at the end of the tour. If you want to stay in a 5 Star hotel that travels with you then this is definitely the holiday for you. We've booked for another Scenic River Cruise in September to Russia. Read Less

My party and I had 2 days in Budapest before we boarded the ship and added 2 days in Amsterdam at the end of our cruise on the advice of friends who had taken the same cruise. Great suggestion! Embarking and disembarking were both well organized and quick! The Opal is an amazing ship, spotless and well planned out. Dining room, food and staff were exceptional. Chef Norm is a master with food. Our choices each night were hard to choose between. If you tire of the buffet you can choose off the menu anytime. It is not always a buffet if you choose not to. The service from everyone is above and beyond. Entertainment was wonderful, each night Antonio the piano/guitar/singer played songs from all eras. All had such a great time and a lot of dancing ensued most nights. The cruise director Richard Grey brought outside entertainment on ship some nights which had everyone on awe. I cannot say enough about the service from all employees on the Opal, if you needed something, they went above and beyond to get it for you. Nothing was too big or too small, and always with a smile. Ports and shore excursions, I enjoyed all as I am interested in history, however, if you are not up to it or not interested in a certain excursion you can stay on the ship and relax. Your choice! Now for my last yahoo! Our cruise director Richard Grey was the most extraordinary person. He made our cruising so seamless, all excursions on time and fun. If you needed info on anything he would get it for you. Always there with a smile and hello, he remembers many names of passengers, information on the cities we visit, the port talks, and even dressed up a couple of nights (oh, I don't want to spoil it for anyone out there) he was hilarious! One last item, the trip may cost a bit more than another cruise line, however, ALL tips, excursions, food and alcohol are included in your price upfront. No bill at the end of the trip unless you use the hairdresser or masseuse. We had private functions for Opal passengers only, which would be an added cost on another cruise line, but not for Scenic passengers! Amazing trip and amazing people. As you can see, I totally enjoyed my trip and would certainly go again on another trip and different route. I highly recommend Scenic Cruise lines! Debra N Read Less

I heard so many glowing reports of scenic, I had high expectations...they were exceeded. There were four of us (2 couples) travelling together We were on Scenic Opal on the Jewel deck, down at water level. It was fabulous, plenty of space, eye level window, great view of the scenery, but we spent most of our time in the lounge or the front deck or on the top deck, even if we had a balcony cabin we would have been up in the lounge etc so that you can see BOTH sides of the river. The food was wonderful, my friend has many dietary needs was so well looked after she was thrilled. Our cruise director Richard Grey was BRILLIANT the entertainment on board, the excursions, guides and staff were second to none. Budapest to Amsterdam was the BEST way to go. Loved it. Well done SCENIC I marked Embarkation down one point because: One thing could be improved is information on arrival. In the 'Welcome' book it stated we were to transfer to the ship from the front of our hotel at 11am and it also stated 'Embarkation at the ship starts no earlier than 3pm" This caused some confusion. Guessing we would be at the ship by 11:30, were we to stand around for 3 and a half hours before getting on? did we drop our luggage there and go sightseeing for a couple of hours? No it all went very smoothly the coach picked us up, took us along the river to the ship, we went on board to a lovely welcome with snacks and drinks available immediately, while we waited to be shown to our rooms, so maybe the written word of the 'Welcome' could be changed to show that you go to the lounge whilst waiting. Thanks again for a wonderful experience Read Less

All inclusive, significant added extras, very good food, excellent specialty dining, no tipping, courteous staff, good value for money. We booked an end suite which turned out to be very noisy, with significant shaking. A lesson to never book an end room was learned. The cruise itself was excellent, the crew were super, the food varied at each sitting so boredom never set in. The wait staff were attentive and remembered what you liked or did not like. The food was very good. We started out with very little free time unlike an ocean cruise there were no "sea days" just a constant sting of sights to see, it almost seemed like an endurance test but eventually slowed down to an easier pace. All of the sites were worth seeing, the guided tours were well planned with knowable guides and always plenty of free time to explore on your own. The special Scenic events were indeed very special. All-in-all an enjoyable trip. Read Less

We took dad who is 92 and wanted a single cabin right by us. This ship has only one single cabin but you don't have to pay as if you were a couple. Altho there is a lift the stairs are shallow and easy to use. Even up to the top deck, which the lift does not reach, he was fine as there are good rails to hold on to either side. Everything is included in the price - meals, snacks, anytime any type of drink, excursions, tips, entertainment, room service. The food was of very good quality and never repeated. It was great to have different wines from a variety of regions of Europe. There was a thorough and fun port talk every evening by our superb cruise director Richard Grey (altho personally we would have liked more detailed advance information). The excursions were very good and efficiently run. There was always lots to do and something to see going on on the river as well as the ever changing views. We enjoyed going through the locks as well. It was a little disturbing at night on the occasions when we were moving but ear plugs may have helped - we just got up to see what was going on. The ship is beautiful. Very clean and stylish. The staff were absolutely brilliant. Professional and friendly. They never showed any stress even if they were rushed off their feet it dint show. nothing was too much trouble. Second to none. On provisioning days we observed everyone helping. Even the receptionist was carrying huge bags of onions. The crew worked non stop. Very impressive. Have done over 25 Ocean cruises from large to small. This was first river cruise. Although Scenic has been around for over 25 years, they have only been marketing in US for a few years. Picked Scenic based on independent ratings on line, as this was highest rated as of 2016. Was not disappointed. While I have seen many lines market as pretty much all-inclusive, this is the real deal. Based on value, this was the best I have ever experienced. With the exception of some free time expenses on land and river portions, I never reached for my credit card or wallet. The only extra on board was for some laundry service. Tips included, all food and drinks (including alcohol) included, all excursions included. Beautiful ship. Great service. If you want to be surrounded by Americans, may not be the best choice for you. This is an Australian company and vast majority of our ship mates were Aussies, Kiwis, Brits and Canadians.....the friendliest and most fun people in the world. Also, gauge your dining expectations based on the small size of kitchen facilities on a river boat. Food was more than acceptable and was not gourmet level. If you are a foodie, stick to upscale ocean cruises. Individual GPS system allows easy listening on guided tours, create your own tour on every stop, sitting on your balcony and having every point of interest pointed out as you sail by. Read Less

We chose this because it was sailing on the Moselle, one of the few rivers we hadn't yet sailed on-we've taken many river cruises. we had been told that Scenic were good and so wanted to see for ourselves. it was a well-priced cruise.. The ship was always beautifully clean, the staff were all excellent and attentive, and food was generally of a good standard.. The on board pianist was the best we've experienced- he had a great singing voice, engaged well with the customers, and also played guitar. Most of the excursions were really good, with excellent local guides. We appreciated the fact that it was truly all-inclusive, with a wide range of drinks on offer at all times, including champagne, and a variety of gins and single malt whiskies. Gratuities had been built into the cruise price. The cruise director was excellent, and dealt well with any issues. The one disappointment was having to take buses to the places on the Moselle because of lock maintenance. This made for some long journeys. Read Less

Although a late deal, this holiday was chosen to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary year. Embarcation went smoothly though we had to wait a short while for our cabin to be ready. The food was superb, plenty of choice from fish and vegetables for a non- meat eater. The waiters looked after our every need courteously and with good humour as did the bar staff. The entertainments provided were very good, mostly featuring younger, very talented entertainers, though we did not see all of them. I was happy with the excursions and choices provided apart from the problems right at the start of the cruise caused by a damaged lock at Antwerp and lock maintenance on the Moselle. Otherwise everything else was as planned and worked well. The Cruise Director's enthusiasm and commitment was boundless. The staff on board gave every appearance of being a happy, professional team. This was for us a quality holiday which had the added bonuses of being truly "all inclusive " with all tipping included in the initial cost which saved a lot of hassle at the end of the cruise. We may do another River Cruise in the future to a different destination. Read Less

Always smiling, wishing you a good morning, a good afternoon, a good time on your excursions. Richard Grey the cruise director was very entertaining. Food was excellent and the staff in the dining room were amazing. Norm the chef was always around asking if everything was OK and the variety of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic were great. Daniel the waiter was always ready with a smile, a little joke and a cold drink. The staff were always cleaning/polishing somewhere and the rooms were very clean. Excursions were very good and the coordination from ship to bus and return were very well executed. Tours guides were easy to understand. We would definitely cruise with Scenic again and I am sure that we would get the same quality on the next cruise. Read Less

Chosen because of the itinerary and length of the cruise. We have travelled with Scenic before and were entirely satisfied with our previous experience. We were pleased to be offered the opportunity to travel from a local airport and were delighted with the convenience of this on both outward and return flights. Other river trips we have had in the past were of inferior quality. We were very pleased with the space and quality of facilities in the cabin. Our one reservation was the standard of the evening meal which we felt fell below the standard of the lunches. On several occasions we complained at the coolness of the served meals. Excursions were generally very good with good guides. We noted that the mobile headsets provided for the excursions are now very clumsy compared to designs used by other companies. We regret that we will probably not be travelling with Scenic again because we have now completed our European river trip desires and do not wish to experience long distance ocean cruises. Read Less

Firstly, the Romantic Rhine Mosel cruise is about the scenery, and we were not disappointed. The Scenic Opal is a well appointed ship, with staff that are attentive to any request. My wife's gluten free requirements, such as bread service and varied pasta alternatives was efficient and was varied with all meals. Occasionally, her bread service was already at the table when we arrived. Portobellos option is one to book for sure. Upscale food and wine selection will impress. Good job. The availability of different types of seating options in the lounge, hard/soft and or couch/chair provides a good alternative for any seating need. The availability of a public 24 hr coffee maker, for up to 6 different coffee choices is a plus. Varied tea selection will also satisfy most needs. The choice of available excursions, is varied and will satisfy the needs of most seasoned travellers. It is great they are all included and no additional charges apply. This was a special 10th Wedding Anniversary cruise, so we purchased the most expensive Royal Panorama Suite, #336. We were hoping for the best experience of our lives. I would have rated my experience 5 stars if this cabin was deserving. See cabin review below. Read Less

Very Organized excursions an entertaining Cruise Director. Cabin are modern, clean and well appointed and kept very clean. Ship is beautiful and very clean. Regular chef was on vacation an food was at best. 2 star quality. Uninspired, no taste and boring. Veal again, and again and again. Desserts aweful, soups aweful, pasta with no taste. As you can tell...food very very very BAD! I had better food at a old pub. Other than that, really nice. Staff really tried to please everyone. Tour guides were also very good and very knowlediable. Butlers are very concerned to make every need you have for filled. Great vacation but the food was practically unediable. Scenic should've done a better job of vetting their chefs because so many passengers were complaining about the food . Even though there was only 1 kid. We sailed on the Romantic Rhine and Moselle. We flew into Amsterdam and there was a Scenic transport person awaiting our arrival as we exited customs. They whisked us away to our hotel, Hilton Double Tree. The hotel was very clean and its location made it easy to step out the door and explore Amsterdam. We only stayed one night and the next morning we had a very delicious complementary breakfast. We checked our luggage with the Scenic representative in the lobby and they would transfer it to the ship. We went out for a mid-morning stroll. They boat is docked very close to the hotel. If you didn't want to take motor transportation it is a very short walk. So that is what we did. We boarded the boat around 12:00 noon. We were greeted and escorted into the Opal Lounge and then into the front of the ship's restaurant River Cafe. We had a light lunch and the cruise director, Richard Grey, was making his rounds greeting everyone. He was very friendly and very organized. The clients aboard this vessel mostly 60 and older. A few younger passengers were aboard and one teenager Richard did a great job making sure everyone knew what the physical ability levels were needed at each port. In my experience, every port was flat and easy to walk. As all over Europe, most sidewalks are streets are, as Richard said, cobblie, cobblie, cobblie. Most days they offered a gentle stroller group that took things a bit slower as to cater to guest who needed more time. All tours were well organized, interesting and the guides and coaches were great!!! Most tours only took a couple of hours then you had some free time to visit a pub or shop. We did both! Every evening before dinner, they would give a port talk to discuss the next days adventures. Always informative and brief. Dinner was open seating which was great...however, food taste...not so great, well actually awful. The dinner would start off with a choice of three appetizers, which was two bites. Then a choice of two soups one was always a no flavor consumme and the other a cream soup. The a choice of three entrees, usually a pasta selection, fish selection, meat selection. The portions were so tiny. One evening I ordered the lamb. It was three slices that were about .5 cm high by 7 cm long and NO TASTE. It was accompanied by a spear of potato and 2 florets of broccoli and 1 floret of cauliflower. Every night my husband ordered the always available steak and the entree of the day. Some evenings he would order all three entrees. Believe it or not, the desserts were even worse. They seem to be mass produced in a factory somewhere and frozen and thawed. Horrible! The regular chef was on vacation and we had a replacement, so maybe that is why it was so bad...who knows? The waiters were either great or aweful. We moved around until we found one who knew what was going on. Most night dinner lasted 2.5 hours. Waiting up to 30 plus minutes some evenings between courses. Ridiculous! The lounge staff was great always ready to get you a drink. The entertainment was okay. I think they need to have some type of entertainment every night. Kind of boring on nights they don't have acts coming aboard. Overall we liked it a lot. However, I think my opinion would be different if we were not traveling with other people. We kept ourselves entertained. The public spaces were clean and new. There was an outbreak of sickness on our cruise and in my opinion, it wasn't handled correctly. It spread throughout the boat and about 80% of the people became ill with a terrible cough. That was the downside, the upside is the ports of call were fabulous and the locks were interesting. I would recommend it, but I would say, travel in a group because it is a little boring at nighttime. Read Less

15 Days of Unabated Luxury Why Chose Scenic? My wife and I booked the 15-day “Romantic Rhine & Moselle” cruise with Scenic departing Amsterdam for Basle (Switzerland), leaving the UK on 19th July 2017, which coincided with my 70th birthday. We have enjoyed more than 40 ocean cruises, including: Regent, Seaborne, Silversea, Hebridean International and Sea Dream. This was our first taste of River Cruising. We chose Scenic because we wanted an all-inclusive luxury cruise on the Rhine and Moselle rivers. The reviews and UTube videos on Scenic were just excellent - and we wanted to avoid the stress of air travel in favour of rail. We were not disappointed. From Home to Scenic Opal & Return. We were collected by car (operated by Trident) from our home and driven to the Renaissance Hotel St Pancras, where we had booked an overnight stay in one of their “Chamber” suites. This offer, (not booked through Scenic) included a VIP transfer to our Eurostar Coach with fast track through immigration and security without having to lift a bag. A change of trains at Brussels on a Thalys train to Schiphol (with food and drinks!) was straightforward and were met by a local Scenic driver on arrival for a quick transfer to Scenic Opal. The next time we saw our bags was in our (BA) Balcony Suite. We received a very warm welcome and were shown to our suite following a welcome glass of bubbly. Our Butler, Gabriel, introduced himself and showed us around out suite and explained the room facilities. The return journey was equally painless with just a change of station from Gare de Lyon to Gare du Nord Eurostar and home by limousine from St Pancras. All very painless. The Staff, Bar and Meals. Our housekeeping lady was Milanka from Serbia who gave us outstanding service throughout the cruise. All the crew were from Europe, mainly the Former Yugoslavia with some from Poland, Hungary and Portugal. Only 8 crew were “Nautical Crew” with the remaining 50 or so being hotel staff. Bar service was excellent with a large variety of cocktails available in the extensive bar menu. Bar service was swift, friendly and attentive. The food on board was varied and could not have been better with 14 chefs operating in such a small kitchen/galley. Service in the main restaurant, River Cafe and Portobello’s was swift and friendly for all meals. Breakfast and lunch mainly comprised a huge buffet selection with some options provided from the kitchen. The Captain and Chief Engineer both provided briefings during the cruise. Entertainment & Tours. All the briefings and entertainment were organized and introduced by Richard, the Cruise Director with the following day’s programme being briefed the previous evening. Because of hearing difficulties, we chose not to use the “Tailor Made” GPS devices, which were made available to all guests. Every lunchtime and throughout the evening music was provided by Antonio who has a great voice, large repertoire and plays the piano and guitar. In addition, several other excellent entertainment acts we brought onboard, including a disco, classical trio, musical show time group and fantastic bell-ringers. All the tours we took advantage of were very well organized and included some of the very best guides we have experienced. The tour of Koblenz was outstanding and included a cable car ride to a hilltop fortress followed by German accordion and singing with wine and refreshments. We voted Richard the very best Cruise Director we have seen. Onboard Facilities. If you want to remain on the ship then the vitality pool (heated to body temperature and with bubbles) is excellent with lots of sun deck space available if you want to sit and relax and watch the other vessels pass by. Coffee, tea, ice creams and snacks are available throughout the day together with a full bar and room service. There is also a small library onboard. Conclusion. We tried very hard to find fault with Scenic; we failed. This was the best holiday we have enjoyed for many years. We are about to book with Scenic for another river cruise next year. Read Less

Although this is a beautiful ship with a generally terrific crew, we cannot recommend Scenic. The Rhine/Moselle itinerary is interesting and the excursions offered were adequate although we often chose to tour independently to avoid the rather lengthy bus trips. The Cruise Director, Richard Grey, was generally excellent, but he was somewhat handicapped by the continually changing arrival and departure times dictated by lock schedules and river traffic. There were about 144 passengers (not quite full capacity), and the ship's main lounge and dining room often felt very crowded. Cabins are cleverly designed in order to make up for the tight space and were comfortable. We were in Suite 201, a Junior Deluxe Balcony Suite, which is one of the larger suites and still small. Butler service is provided and was well performed by an enthusiastic staff. Everything was kept spotlessly clean. One of our suitcases was misplaced on embarkation due to improper labeling by the crew. We advise putting your own cabin number on your tags. The bar staff is very young, enthusiastic, and totally incapable of mixing standard cocktails. Pre-port lectures by the Cruise Director every evening before dinner were informative, but the overcrowding in the dining room directly afterwards caused the restaurant staff to be severely stressed. Even though there is open seating, tables for four were not always easily located and no Maitre'D was available to help. After dinner entertainment was minimal, but not unexpected for a river cruise. Now for the food, which was largely inedible! Thin, watery soups, insipid salad dressings, awfully prepared meat dishes, baked potatoes that were hard as a rock...I could go on and on. There are buffets for breakfast and lunch, which did not change much from day-to-day. The same stale bagels, watery scrambled eggs etc. kept appearing. Very good made-to-order omelet station is available. Lunch could be scary, with mystery meat and gloppy dishes put out. Dinner was no better. Steak, chicken and salmon was always available as an alternative and was atrocious. Desserts were not much better. Think Army mess hall quality (or lack there of). Bottom line is that this food will not please American tastes. The ship's passenger contingent was largely Australian, with others from the UK, New Zealand and Canada. Some appeared to really enjoy the heavy meat and potato offerings as they were seen going back for more. Curiously, the Table la Rive, Portobello and Captain's Dinner tables did have edible offerings. If they were able to produce those results, why not for the standard meals in the Crystal Dining room? We are disappointed in the value and quality that Scenic offers. If you are looking for luxury and good value, you will not find it here! Read Less

We have done a number of sea cruises but this was our first river cruise. We wanted a 5* all inclusive cruise and that is what we got. The staff were amazing and Richard, the cruise director was the best cruise director we have ever had. The ship was relatively small compared to the ocean going vessels but adequate. The gym had a great treadmill although overall it lacked a variety of equipment (I only wanted a treadmill so I was just fine). The food was usually excellent with one or two minor exceptions. The variety of eating venues for a ship of this size was excellent. On-board and onshore entertainment was super although we lost our resident pianist half way through the cruise (due to sickness) and he was not replaced (a minus there). Cabins were kitted out with some marvellous technology (including a great automatic guide machine) although I would have appreciated at least another 5m2 of space. The balcony with its' "up and down, electronically controlled window" was brilliant. Overall I would definitely cruise with Scenic again but I might also look at other 5* lines. Read Less

They said it was to avoid crowds but the towns were empty even at lunch time. Very badly organised and wouldn't cruise with scenic again. When we arrived no one went through room facilities so had no idea how to operate windows or room service. Butler was good but only knew about him 2 days in. The red wine was not room temperature but stone old so suggest they employ sommelier. Food was excellent though and great variety. Read Less

Chose this cruise because of its top reviews and attention to detail. From the moment we were picked up at Amsterdam airport, Scenic took care of everything. The cabin, food, cruise director, Richard, and the entire staff went above and beyond to make sure we were constantly taken care of. The chef was very friendly, experienced and a great chef. He provided several options at every meal, and made sure we had a taste of every region we visited. The bar staff went above and beyond to make sure there was always a drink available. We can't compliment the staff enough, from the housekeepers to the skipper. Adding the four extra days in Switzerland was definately the highlight of the trip. First class hotels, tours and meals were excellent. All tours and activities were thorough and there was time everyday to have on your own. We will travel with scenic again because they took excellent care of us! Read Less

This was our 3rd trip on Scenic and we will continue to stay with them as the service is impeccable and the inclusive theme is wonderful. The food is varied with something for every taste & great wine selections as we traveled down the river. All of the excursions were well thought out and as they are early in the day you get to miss the rush of tourists and then spend the rest of the day either floating down the river or exploring a town on your own (using the tailor made device that gives you information about where you are). The cruise director kept it lively and all activities went on without a hitch- including the first and last days. If you want a vacation the takes you away, mixes you with interesting travelers in a small number, I would definitely recommend river cruising in general and this company's fleet in particular. I chose this cruise for a group of 38 friends because they worked with me even though I am not a travel agent. Also, EVERYTHING was included. Most of us chose to give additional tips to those who really went out of their way to enhance our experience, The staff was wonderful! Cruise director Richard was delightful and engaging. Our butler, Alex, was wonderful and anticipated our every wish. The shore excursions were top rate. The destinations were beautiful and historic. Food and beverage were excellent and the service was also terrific! I highly recommend doing this cruise with friends. Embarkation was SO easy. We were able to board the ship by 11am and started meeting up with all of our group while enjoying beverages and a terrific lunch. We checked in to our suites by 3pm. There were no children on the cruise and that was perfect for me. Read Less

Chose this river cruise on Rhine River per a suggestion from a family member. This was our first river cruise, after being on several ocean cruises, outstanding experience over larger ships. Boat is limited to 80 cabins (160 customers) which allowed for more personal service to your want and needs. Tailoring to more experienced travelers. Cabins were very spacious and comfortable, enclosed balconies with full glasses view of river with ability to power down upper half of window to enjoy river. Having this extra balcony enclosure gave cabin more room even in poor weather. Meals and food was outstanding all of which were healthy choices. I would recommend Scenic river cruises to anyone who is looking for a relaxing vacation. I was not impressed with special commication devise "TailorMade", not only was it large & heavy it was very unreliable! Batteries would not hold a charge, not easy to use, which caused us to miss most of information of sites along the river. It was designed to work off GPS and beep when ship came up on a site to tell You about history, great idea but failed to beep. You could always scroll though list of sites, but then we had to rely on map to figure out where you were to seek out information. Suggest looking for modern technology, smaller in size, no bigger than cell phone, to hang on neck all day during land tours. I would have agree with another review, the sun deck furniture was uncomfortable to sit in for any length of time. Since there was little bar service provided on sun deck, we were forced to run back and forth to bar on 3rd floor. The few times we did see a bar service personnel on sun deck, they would not always ask if you wanted a drink. Bar service was slow at all times, only one bar on ship and at most two bartenders at any given time. Bartenders seemed overwhelmed and at times you could feel their frustration when you walked up. This trip was recommended by our travel agent as it fit into a meeting that I attended in Basel. All aspects of the trip were delightful - it was busy however with daily excursions. We were blessed with good weather for most of the trip. The staff and especially the cruise director made the trip fantastic. The ship captain and crew lended to feeling of security and safety. The fellow travelers were for the most part compatible and easy to make friends. There were ample opportunities for excursions and often two or three choices at each port. There was a large bicycling group aboard that had their own agenda and apparently had a very nice experience. Three gourmet meals a day, including lamb chops for breakfast. The separate dinners were enjoyable, and the dining crew made us feel as family. There were no children on the ship and this was most appreciated in that river boats are not large and capable of entertaining youth! Read Less
