I chose this cruise mostly as a surprise for my boyfriend, who is an artist and loves history, in particular military history. He had never been to France. I had lived in Paris and traveled there a couple of times since. But some of the places on the itinerary I had never been, too, either. It was our first river cruise and first time with Avalon. I have nothing negative to say. The whole experience from start to finish was amazing. We loved the ship, the cabin, the dining (food and wine), the shore excursions, and the service. Once on board, I was able to discuss my choice of Avalon with other passengers and it reaffirmed that I had made the right decision. We stayed one night in Paris prior to the cruise and Avalon provided the transportation from and back to the airport as well as to the ship from our hotel on the day of embarkation. I prearranged all the tours based on our interests at each port and paid for tips up front. Less to worry about. I was able to rearrange a couple of tours on board after additional details were provided. The last day was Paris, also, so we got in as much as we could in the city considering two days is not nearly enough time. All of the crew worked very hard to make our trip wonderful. They really seemed to love their jobs and it showed. Our cruise director was Jean-Loup. He was excellent - a fountain of knowledge and a whirlwind of activity and organization. Read Less

We wanted to have the extra attention to the Arts and especially wanted to see the Normandy region and the beaches and memorials. We also enjoyed the small group of people cruising with us and the ability to get to know people from all over the world. The entire cruise was just delightful. The staff was super and the Cruise Director awesome. The weather cooperated and we found the balance of rest and shore excursions to be just right. I enjoyed the variety of having early breakfast, snacks in the afternoon, a lovely sit-down dinner and being able to cruise during the daytime to see the countryside of France. The guides on the shore excursions were easy to understand, full of stories and loads of historical information. I enjoyed each one. The entertainment was delightful as well and the service from the food, to the cabin, to the captain, was outstanding. I couldn't have been more pleased with my choice of Avalon for my first river cruise and to be sure, I am looking forward to the next one. Read Less

I chose this as my first river cruise experience because of the dates, duration, itinerary and subject matter. This cruise highlighted the lives and work of various artists as well as the history of Normandy. Prior to embarking, I spent 2 weeks enjoying much of the highlights of Paris and wanted to explore more of the countryside of France. I don't care for ocean cruises because the crowds of people and the on-board entertainment and amenities are not for me. This river cruise, however, was delightful. I was able to find quiet, relaxing time and spaces, and I met very interesting people. The nightly entertainment was always enjoyable. Dining was always good with serving hours available for all schedules and the choices varied enough for all tastes. Embarkation was easy, I was greeted warmly and offered food and drink until my cabin was ready earlier than expected. The cruise director was fun, competent, efficient, helpful, accommodating and available. The rest of the crew and the captain were all helpful, cheerful and able. Disembarkation was also a breeze. The Cruise Director made sure every one had transportation to their various destinations and accommodated our late leaving time. My cabin was very comfortable in size, amenities, location and atmosphere. I particularly enjoyed lying in bed and watching the French country roll by through my floor-to-ceiling windows. I also enjoyed being able to walk off the ship and directly into the villages. The shore excursions offered alternatives depending on what I felt like doing on the day. They were well-organized and provided knowledgeable and sociable guides. I was well-briefed prior to the excursions so I knew where and when and what to expect. The only thing I missed was a swimming pool, but I'm not sure I would have found time to use it, even if it were there. There were no children among the guests on this cruise, and I doubt that children would have enjoyed it. I was traveling with my sister and brother-in-law, but I would have felt comfortable being solo on this cruise. I would definitely schedule another river cruise with Avalon. It was a most wonderful experience. Read Less

Chose cruise because it looked interesting when were were searching on line. We started our vacation search looking on the Globus Tours web site with no idea what kind of vacation were going to take or where we were eventually going. We found Avalon Waterways on the Globus site. Avalon is a partner of Globus Tours, and we took a Globus Tour last year and were very impressed with how it was run. This cruise more than met our expectations. Our room was nice (a little small, but nice). Food (all meals were included) was spectacular. The staff treated us tremendously. The tours and included excursions all were as described in the brochure. All the days' events were extremely well organized, and were accompanied with an itinerary sheet delivered to our rooms the day before. Avalon handled our ground transportation to and from the airport in a fully professional manner. Read Less

Avalon and our cruise Paris to Normandy surpassed all our expectations. Where to start...The food. I gained 10 pounds! The food was wonderfully presented, tasted great and was plentiful as was the wine. The ship's amenities were comfortable and convenient. Excursion options made it a difficult decision each morning on where to go. While on an excursion, the guides were very well prepared, buses were clean and comfortable and we always felt safe. And our cruise director threw in a couple of extras like recommending the light show in Rouen or bringing an author on-board who has researched the Normandy invasion to provide his insights prior to our visit. The crew of the Tapestry II were friendly, always upbeat and presented themselves as wanting to ensure we were having a good time and had all of our needs met. Avalon also reserved a hotel for a pre-cruise stay in Paris. It was conveniently located at the foot of the Eiffel tower. Plus Avalon handled all or our transfers, to the hotel, to the ship and back to the airport. On time taking away all stress related to visiting and navigating a foreign country for the first time. A river cruise is definitely the only type of cruise I'll consider in the future. And I have no reservations on highly recommending taking one with Avalon. Read Less

We chose this cruise based on the recommendation of a friend. The Avalon Tapestry II was the perfect size. Super clean with very comfortable public spaces both inside and outside the ship. Our cabin was clean and spacious with great storage. Bed was super comfortable and we especially enjoyed the bed facing the windows. The bathroom had a spacious shower, double sinks and good storage. Meals were delicious and plentiful. Breakfast and lunch buffet was extensive with many choices including an omelette station for breakfast and a carving station at lunch. Also, fresh fruit and many healthy choices. We appreciated the seating options in the dining room...a table for two, four or six. Our waiter Marius was very attentive. Every member of the staff was very professional, helpful and incredibly hard working. The Ports and Shore excursions were well organized with very knowledgeable tour guides. Wish we had more time in Rouen. Our favorite tour guides were Estelle and Olivier. We would definitely recommend Avalon . Read Less

We really enjoyed our first river cruise. The main reason we picked this cruise was the Normandy destination and history lectures. They were excellent. We are experienced Ocean Cruise people and frankly the river cruise is little too laid back for me. However, if we do another we would choose Avalon. Great service, excellent food and really nice people. We loved our Royal Suite but have no way to compare to other lines. Except for the lectures we found the little bit of entertainment that was provided just average. Also since there is no gambling there is not much to do when you return from excursions. The people at the reception desk were very helpful and although I need A wheelchair to go off the ship, they made that experience seamless. Our Cruise Director was very helpful and did a nice job keeping people informed of activities. We were a little disappointed that many activities started late but that was not an issue with most people. Overall we had a really great time. Read Less

This was our first cruise. We wanted to see the Normandy Beaches, which did not disappoint. We had a WWII historian traveling with us and his presentations were very interesting and insightful! All of the villages and towns had beautiful cathedrals and incredible architecture, so many sights to photograph and experience. The food on the boat was delicious and plentiful! We enjoyed some of the best chocolate chip cookies daily in the aft lounge. The Captain, Cruise Director and the Crew on the TapastryII were so informative and personable. Our room was beautiful and it was such a treat to open the sliding glass door which converted our room to a French balcony to be able to enjoy the river as we cruised! Being able to see and experience all the sites that we had only read about in history books or seen on TV was amazing! I would highly recommend this trip! We are already planning our next cruise!!! This location was a place my late husband had always wanted to visit as a WW II history buff. My daughter and I took the cruise in his honor to visit and hear about the times and places he had such avid interest in. We selected this cruise because of its focus and that there would be a historian to accompany along the trip. Nigel Stewart was wonderful on his delivery of what was happening during the time leading up to the Normandy invasion. His insight on the military figures, leaders and family stories was so engaging. The Captain, Cruise Director and the entire crew and staff were absolutely wonderful and made our cruise such a wonderful, delightful, and special vacation for us. Everyone was so attentive and cared for our every request. The Cruise Director, Tony Williamson, had the perfect communication plan to gather us to advise us on the next day's activities and what we needed to know. He and Captain Rudy were always at at the gang plank to send us off and greet us when we returned to wish us a great trip. Staff in the lounge or dining room were attentive and quickly addressed any requests for extra bread, drinks and freely poured wine during the entire meal. Excellent service by all. The ship was beautiful and our state room was great. Small, but that is what cruise cabins are, and the condition and fixtures were more than accommodating to our needs. The staff always cared for us and made our trip so enjoyable. Meals were amazing and the group dinner meals or the quick self serve lunch in the lounge were equally delicious and delightful. Cruising during meal times added so much to seeing sights along the river while gently cruising along. The only criticism we had was that if you sat in the middle part of the main diining room there were lengthy delays in being served. On one such meal iwe were not served our main entree, when our table neighbors had already finished their dessert. Excursions offered were very enjoyable and depending on the guide, we were provided with great history, background with time to venture around the villages. The only disappointments were a stop in Caudebec and one of the Paris excursions when we returned to port. We arrived at Caudebec, and the excursion offered was not of interest to us, but then it turns out that the village shops were not open on Mondays. So while we could walk around to visit see the village, we could not shop for any local specialties. The Paris bike tour was not as was presented and should have indicated not for a novice rider, Perhaps the group of 11 was too large, but we traveled through heavily trafficked Paris streets and tourists venues. So my own ride was stressful in that I was worried about staying connected to the group and out of the car and pedestrian pathways that I did not enjoy it at all. Embarking and disembarking were flawless, clearly defined processes, bags were picked up immediately as we put them outside our state room, and were outside our transfer without having to identify them first. The ship crew were wonderful and so professional. The Tapestry II cruise was our first ever cruise of any kind and I must say I feel spoiled that I would not want to cruise any other way!!! I loved being able to sit out on the front, top deck or rear lounge areas while we cruised. It was so peaceful, presented great opportunity for pictures along the way, or just to get alone time if you wanted it. Other travelers were so friendly and it was great to meet others and talk about their travel experiences and why they chose the cruise as well. We also booked additional time before and after the cruise that Globus assisted us with for hotel and transfers. All was done with no effort on our part and went very smoothly. The few negatives mentioned, did not spoil our trip and we had a wonderful time. Avalon will be a first choice for a new adventure! Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was a themed World War 2 history cruise. If we hadn't taken a private tour before getting onboard, I would have left disappointed. The guest lecturer, Nigel Stewart, was able to give us a broad overview of the history of the war that happened in the areas we were traveling. He stayed on ship all week and you could ask him questions pretty much at any time. The disappointment of the WW2 history was in the tours that were offered. There is a 2 1/2 hour travel time involved each way, so I understand that their is only so much time. But, we felt rushed during the tour because we had to get back on the bus and go again. So much to see and learn and we left feeling that we needed to go back and see things again because of what we missed. The ship was very nice and clean. A very modern ship. Other than watching the world float by or sitting in the sun, not much else to do on board. The WIFI is spotty at best unless you sit in the lounge area. The food was disappointing, but was okay. If possible, we ate in the lounge every night as they served the same food as in the main dinner area. It was in sample size portions so that was nice to try the different selections. The crew was very nice all around. They made the trip as they were always trying to exceed your expectations. The captain was nice and was always around. Our room was very nice, clean, and felt bigger than it was. We were lucky to not be docked next to other boats all the time, so we had a decent view in the different docking locations. Overall, I would sail with Avalon again, but do things more on my own for tours. Read Less

The cabins were always clean, towels replenished and amenities replaced as needed. The dining crew was fabulous from the chef to the wait staff. The meals were well planned, variety of choices at each meal, delicious and beautifully plated. Wine was plentiful at every dinner. The captain was hands on and always ready to greet each passenger at every port departure and arrival. We would definitely consider AvalonWaterways for future trips as they exceeded our expectations. We extended our trip with transfer to London. The combination witty the Monograms program was magnificent. Read Less

This was my first cruise and it was with my adult relatives. We started from Paris and went to Le Havre with a side trip to Normandy. Each day was 1 or 2 shore excursions that were generally enjoyable as they were to historic areas or buildings. Tours of Versaille and Le Louvre were almost surreal due to the crowds so be prepared. I also had a couple of days before the cruise to see some of Paris which helped the trip feel complete. The rooms were compact but very comfortable, although we weren't in them much due to all the activities. Food was plentiful and leaned towards the high end, definitely not steaks and pasta. Although it seemed we were eating all the time the portions where small (but sufficient) so it was easy to not feel stuffed. Wine is all you can drink. There were also 24/7 snacks available. I would have preferred a little earlier dinner time but since there weren't planned events afterwards it worked out. A great memory was setting on the deck after dinner and watching the scenery go by as the sun set - really amazing. The crew was great, very friendly and helpful. Entertainment on board was mostly just happy hour, with a couple of events like cooking and a classical band - which I enjoyed greatly even though I am a rock fan. One criticism of the tour was that the bus travel cut into the time at the destination. Of course that is inevitable because the river doesn't just flow right up to everything. Normandy felt especially rushed because we went to Point du Hoc in the morning and then the Normandy cemetery in the afternoon with a quick lunch at a golf course in between. I think I would not want to skip either but we needed more time. In my case I probably could have ignored the tour guide because I was already familiar with the historic events so maybe less talking and more wandering would have helped. A box lunch could have saved time, too, although the restaurant did a great job at serving us quickly. I would have liked to gone to one of the private museums along the way. To me this was a trip of a lifetime (so far) and it was exactly what I wanted. The small boat made everything feel much more cozy and not just a floating hotel. Highly recommended. Read Less

The cruise staff all around was amazing. From the crew to the waiters, to everybody we saw on board. We loved all the activities we could choose from. Being able to pick between included excursions made our experience wonderful. The hardest decision was deciding between red and white wine or how many desserts to have! I had allergies, and the maître d’ was able to walk me through the menu each day in order for me to be successful. In our 40s, we were one of the youngest people on the trip, however everybody was welcoming and we enjoyed hanging out with people on the ship. Being able to sit wherever we want it allowed us to have dinner with different people each evening. Sometimes we wanted a more casual dinner and we would sit in the bistro, this was nice because you could pick smaller portions of several different entrées. We would definitely choose an Avalon vacation again. Read Less

Everything about this cruise exceeded my expectations and hopes. This was my first river cruise but won’t be my last. They injected a lot of history and personal experience into their talks. I think what made this cruise was the amazing and professional staff. I always felt welcome and cared for. This was our first river cruise, so we did not know what to expect. We were familiar with Globus, Avalon’s parent company, and had expectations based on that experience. Our pre-cruise hotel, Pullman Paris Tour Eiffel, was very nice and was conveniently located a block from the Eiffel Tower, cafes, and a metro stop. The river was only a couple of blocks away and an easy walk.. There is a pedestrian walkway around much of the river. Avalon’s logistics were very good, getting us to the ship, to/from excursions, and transfers to the train or airport, flawlessly. I enjoyed having fewer guests onboard in a more intimate shipboard environment which allows for easier socializing and making new friends. Cabin size is about what you have on ocean cruise ships. Often we had another river cruise boat nested beside us, so you have to be mindful of that when opening your drapes (make sure you are adequately dressed). Food was outstanding in quality and presentation but we prefer to eat earlier than the 7-7:30 pm 4 course dinner start time. They offered a light dinner fare in the loung which we opted for much of the week but the menu for this option remained the same for the week. I understand Avalon’s dining options for 2019 will offer much better flexibility and options. Crew members were also outstanding, most very personable and engaging. If you needed anything you just needed to ask the crew, and if they could accommodate you, they did. A few, in particular, remembered what we wanted to drink with lunch and supper and brought it to us without having to ask. We were disappointed that there was not much to see along the Seine River landscape as we sailed from Paris to Normandy- a lot of permanently moored river house boats and green landscape. Included and optional excursions were also well-executed. Much of the week required early rising to make the typical 8:30 am departure time. If we do another river cruise, we will definitely look to Avalon first. Read Less

Chose this ship as part of a college alumni cruise. The entire staff and crew had one goal: our happiness. I watched the captain move heavy ramp equipment up steps along with a crew member, a leader by example. Everyone was thoughtful, anticipating our needs. The food and cabin service was exceptional. Shore excursions were well-planned and contracted guides were knowledgable and clear. Our ships tour guide did a wonderful job preparing us for every trip. The ship was smooth and quiet. The Captain allowed short visits to the control room. There were TV channels that showed the forward looking cameras and our map view progress. Although some excursions were crowded, our guides were able to bypass long lines and always made sure we could find our way back to meeting points. The coach drivers handled large vehicles on small roads or city traffic with ease. When we visited the Normandy cemetery there provided us with flowers. The guides were able to think of alternate means of transportation (the cable car) when our tram was delayed. We only had to walk and learn. The entertainment was tasteful and always enjoyable. We chose Avalon because the Viking Cruise was sold out to be perfectly honest. We are very glad the Viking Cruise was sold out and we found Avalon. After hearing experiences that our friends have had on Viking (very good but not amazing) we will plan our next cruises with Avalon. The ship, the food, the staff were all top of the line. The staff really get to know you. Our cruise director, Jean Lo, had the energy of 10 people. I have never met someone so organized. I wish we could take another cruise with the exact same crew, only a different location. When we left, we felt like we were leaving family. I would recommend the spring cruise because of the excursion to Monet's garden in the spring. One of the wonders of the world. It did rain but that's Normandy in the spring. We are looking forward to a cruise in the summer where we can take advantage of the outside decks on the ship. If I could give anyone a tip it would be not to stay in the luxury stateroom because the rooms on the lower deck are nice (my mom and aunt stayed in a 3rd deck room) and you literally only sleep in the room. Previously went on the Avalon Burgundy-Provence cruise and wanted to see France again - chose Normandy because my father fought and was injured there. We thoroughly enjoyed the excursions even though the weather was cold and rainy, which turned to sleet and snow on one occasion. We enjoy the city tours at the ports with the local guides who not only are well versed, but enthusiastic and passionate about the history they share. In addition, we especially like the option of having free time explore on our own. This was the second time we had Jean Loup as the tour director, and he is absolutely one of the best. The staff, as well, are very accommodating and they excel at making the ship your home away from home. We loved the fact that there is no assigned seating for meals, which makes it a great opportunity to meet other travelers. River cruising, in our opinion, is the best way to see the world. Read Less

Friends who have had very positive experiences with Avalon Waterways, highly recommended it to us. It was our first and all our experiences exceeded our expectations. The crew, each one, was extremely efficient, courteous, and especially friendly to the guests which, I must say, were a delight to meet and great to become friends and socialize with. A plus was the knowledgeable cruise director and his meticulous attention to detail, schedules, and in simply directing everyone to where they should be at any given time and in a timely way. What a guy he is! Also, the tour guides were knowledgeable about the various venues we visited. The food served in the lounge and in the dining room was excellent, as well as the friendly ship's company who cooked and served the guests. No complaint or mistake, if any, went uncorrected as far as we know. I might add that the musical entertainment that was presented on the vessel was a pleasant and unexpected plus. The berthing was perfecto. Comfortable, very accommodating, and with marvelous riverside scenery. We are looking forward our booking another river cruise with Avalon Waterways. My wife and I chose Avalon because we had been on one of their cruises before down the Rhine River and found the service and the cruise director to be excellent. We were not disappointed on this cruise. The cabin was very comfortable given the necessary limited size do to it being on a ship. The food was excellent and the service also excellent. Twice during the cruise, various French workers called a one-day strike that created potential disruption to our planned itinerary. The cruise director, Jean-Loup Domart, the captain, Rudy Viellard, and their crew were able to work out arrangements so that the flow of the cruise was not affected. They were working constantly to keep the whole trip moving without any major disruption. The guides for the excursions on this cruise were especially noteworthy. They were very knowledgeable and very personable. This added much to our overall experience and I learned many details from them. On the whole it was a wonderful experience and we will certainly look to Avalon as our first choice for our next cruise. Read Less

This was my first River Cruise and my wife was concerned that I might not like it, because it is uniquely different than the mass market Cruise ships that I have sailed dozens of times. I actually loved the entire experience. Embarkation and disembarkation were so fast that they became a non-event. Faster than checking in and out of any hotel that you might stay at. The ship was easy to navigate around and our cabin was spacious and well laid out. The bathroom was nicer than my master bath at my home. Meals were a pleasure, there is no waiting or reservations to worry about. Every passenger can be seated at one time for meals in the dining room. The food was excellent and the variety of foods made it easy for everyone in our traveling party of 6 people to find something that excited them. The attention that the staff paid to us was was personal and attentive. They all knew us by name almost immediately and they quickly learn what you like to eat and drink. One of my surprises was the constant presence of the Captain, who took an interest in how we were enjoying all of the activities and amenities of the ship and he often stood at the door to the lobby of the ship and greeted us a "welcome home" at the end of each tour. This was also my first time in France and it far exceeded my expectations. The beauty of the River Cruise is being able to be city central in cities of all sizes which were stops along the route from Paris to the Normandy Beaches and back. The shore excursions were well organized and we found that in many cases the guides went above and beyond to ensure that we saw, understood and enjoyed all that we saw. Best of all, getting off and on the ship for the excursions was a breeze, not like the nightmare of getting off a ship with 3,000 passengers with 100 buses waiting! Our Cruise Director was Tony. who was personable, funny, and attentive. My compliments also go out to the Hotel Manager. She and her staff were wonderful. We enjoyed the Happy Hour on board ship most evenings, where there was a very talented entertainer, who played many instruments, including piano. Some evenings we played cards in the lounge, where there was a wonderful coffee maker that created all types of specialty coffee drinks, hot chocolate and tea, with fresh pastries as well. Sometimes we went up to the sun deck to lounge. Overall, I loved the experience so much, that I asked my wife if we could change our plans to take a bus tour next year and find an Avalon River Cruise instead. The River Cruise was also a good value, as the price includes the daily excursions, which for my wife and I can easily run $1,600 to $2000 per couple on any mass market cruise that we have sailed. I think I am now spoiled and it will be quite awhile before we get on a cruise ship with thousands of passengers. If you are thinking about an Avalon River Cruise, I highly recommend that you stop thinking about it and book it! Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary, which included a post cruise stay in London. This was my first time on Avalon, although I have done river cruises with other lines. On board I was very impressed with the staff, the service, the food -- as well as the cleanliness and comfort of the cabins. This was a family trip for seven of us, and we all had a wonderful time. The most important elements to me when taking a cruise are the excursions and the guides. Both were excellent on this cruise. The excursion to the Normandy landing beaches was very compelling and something I will not forget for a long time. But seeing some of the smaller towns like Honfleur and Les Andelys were among the highlights for me. But the highest praise goes to our cruise director, Jean-Loup Dormant. I don't think the man ever sleeps, yet he is always charming, funny and extremely helpful. Plus he works tirelessly to make sure his guests have the best experience possible. An important example of that is the fact that at the beginning of the cruise portion, there was another strike in France that affected the locks, which of course affected our ability to get from one place to another. But Jean-Loup and our captain worked their magic -- and their network -- to ensure that we saw everything on the itinerary. The schedule had to be re-worked a little, and we may have taken one more bus than we were supposed to, but there were no disappointments. In speaking to some of our guides along the way, we found that passengers of some other lines weren't so lucky, and they missed some of their stops. The one disappointment was our hotel in London. The location was excellent -- literally next to the Westminster Bridge and the London Eye. But the food was just awful, and the service well below par. Our family is hoping to plan another cruise with Avalon in 2019 and it's likely our group will expand since we have all been telling friends and other family members about the wonderful time we had. We had the opportunity to sail in a Panorama Suite on board the Avalon Tapestry II last fall and our experience did not disappoint. Everything about this trip was fabulous, from the flawless execution of embarkation/debarkation to the food, the staff, the included and premium excursions and more. I can't say enough about how wonderful our experience was. I have a gluten allergy, and the dining room and kitchen staff was wonderful in making sure I had gluten-free options with every meal. The maitre'd Peter was outstanding and took excellent care to make sure all in our party were well-taken care of. Our server Pavel was outstanding, as well, and our wine steward Valentin ensured that our glasses were never empty. Our cruise director Jean-Loup was outstanding as well. Our cabin attendant Marie took great care of us and our cabin was always clean and well-maintained. Avalon met us at the airport, whisked us to the embarkation hotel, provided refreshments for jet-lagged Americans and then seamlessly transferred us to the ship. We didn't have to hassle with our luggage, and in fact, it seemed like anything we needed was already anticipated. We loved the chance to explore quaint French villages and delve into the fascinating history of this region. We visited ancient abbeys, and hiked to the top of a hill to visit Richard Lionheart's Chateau Gaillard, which was fascinating. We toured Malmaison and Versailles, the villages of Vernon, Rouen, Caudebec and more. The highlight of our trip was our visit to the WWII battlefields of Normandy and the landing beaches, followed by a visit to the American Cemetery there. It was fascinating and heartbreaking, and it is a place that EVERY American should visit to pay their respects to the young men who sacrificed so much there. Thank you to Avalon for making this a truly memorable trip for me and my husband, and please know that we can't WAIT for our next Avalon river cruise! Read Less

We always wanted to travel to France (Paris and Normandy, specifically) and this was the PERFECT way to do that. The comfort with the room was above fantastic and the food and wine was superb! We loved the intimacy with the small crowd and crew compliment and getting to know the service staff made our trip special -- they were very accommodating. And Captain Rudy was very personable and entertaining. He and his crew maintain a nearly perfect ship and the sailing was smooth and relaxing. The on-board entertainment was fun (and the informational lectures were even better), but our main focus for the trip was the stop at the Normandy memorial. It was such an emotional journey and I was so glad to be there...by far the highlight of the excursions for me. However, each stop along the way (and back) were special in their own right and I wouldn't have missed any of them for any reason. they were truly icing on the cake. All-in-all, one of the best trips I've been on and my wife and I are planing many more with Avalon in the near future. Read Less
