I went on this ship as it was the only thing available at the last minute when trying to find a cruise to take my 30y.o. sister on who has never cruised before. I had done this itinerary twice before (Ensenada twice and Catalina Island once) and I had done this ship before in 2015 being in a wedding as my friend was married on it. The ship looks old, worn, and dirty. We saw crew members dusting the walls in the morning but important things like cleaning our oceanview window so we could have a clear view outside and pickup up trash in the public bathrooms were missed. The handwashing machine near Blue Iguana didn't work properly most of the time, just flashing a red light and and hand sanitizer near there was never filled. The bathroom nearest the buffet on port side, the air dreyer never worked and there were no paper towels available. Within 20min of boarding the ship we sat down in the buffet to eat lunch and the wooden bench part of the seat in one of the booths completely fell off the bench making my sister almost fall. Two crewmembers walked by, saw it was broken, and did nothing. Certain coffee makers and other drink dispensers didn't work the entire cruise. Our sheets had holes and there was only one outlet in the whole room. The food in the dining room was more miss than hit and no one encouraged hand washing like they do on NCL. I rarely touched the ladles and spoons to serve myself, using a blue cloth napkin instead, yet I'm still sick the day after the cruise. The casino house edge on roulette is insane with Carnival adding a B (bonus) green space to the the standard 0/00. The lady running the trivia was unfamiliar with the subject matter of some of the trivia games and while generally having people from all over the world work on the ship is an amazing display of diversity, in this case it made trivias less fun when you can't understand the host. Not only when running the Harry Potter trivia was she unaware of simple things like Ron's last name being pronounced Weasley and not Wesley but the second question asked was WRONG! "Of the three main characters, who is the oldest?" The correct answer is Hermione, yet on her sheet (and clearly because she's not versed on the subject matter to know otherwise) the answer says Ron, which is incorrect and leaves a damper on the experience itself when those running a trivia don't know the correct answers. German C, the DJ on board always looked like he hated being there. Nightclub hits was supposed to start at 11:30 in the dance club but normally he didn't stop playing oldschool or 90's hits until 12:15am or later making the fun of dancing to current music only last about 45min or so. Also, our server on the third night in Mardi Gras was not very kind nor patient. And the person staffing the pizza area in the back of the buffet always had an attitude as if you were bothering him. The Cruise Director Ryan Rose was great and so was his right hand man 'Fernando(?)'. They were the positives of the cruise. The two shows in the theaters while short and had basic choreography and wasn't anything new or exciting, was still entertaining and the male lead singer/dancer was very good. My sister enjoyed the nightclub but wished they played current hits starting earlier in the night since it ended early. Too many times she tried to eat a caesar salad but it either had too much or too little dressing no matter how she specified it. Overall she enjoyed herself so in my opinion if you haven't been on many cruises, or haven't been on new and large ships or haven't stayed in a balcony cabin before and don't have much to compare it too you may enjoy this cruise for a quick getaway if you are local to the area. We took this cruise to celebrate a friend's birthday. The cost was right and it seemed like a good time was awaiting us on the ocean. Let me start with, THE GOOD: Good friends Funny times at Karaoke The Tequila part of the Ensenada tour THE BAD: The food was awful. Dinner was not served on time nor at a temperature, you would consider "warm". On one evening, a friend paid for the upcharged "surf and turf", watched all of us eat our "lukewarm" meal, and still hadn't eaten his (after an hour and 25 minutes). Not until we got up to walk around and look for the food service manager did his food arrive. The service was forgettable. How do you include a gratuity on a final bill when the service you received was terrible. Water started with ice then, you'd receive a warm second glass. I'd ask for a coca cola and by the time we were ready to leave the table, the drink would arrive. The excursion is dangerous, in a sense. You take 20 people out to drink beer and tequila, then you entrust them to walk back to the boat on their own?!?! I get it, it's a tasting, but the sensible thing to do would be to make sure "EVERYONE" is transported back to the boat at the same time, the same way we left the boat... TOGETHER... Our bed felt like to twin mattresses pushed together and didn't offer a great rest. Read Less

So I would like to start with a positive. The embarkation process was super easy and organized this was better than on Celebrity, Royal , or Norwegian. We knew that this was an older ship and we really only booked this as a quick getaway from LA to a few places we’d never been to before. Upon arrival to our stateroom , the attendant (who was lovely) informed us that there was no hand soap. They were waiting for it to get on the ship but there wasn’t any yet. I immediately began to panic - if all 2,000 guests are using the bathroom and then not using hand soap , that’s a health issue. So I called guest services to inquire - she told me to use shower gel for now but that I most likely misunderstood the stateroom attendant bc he just didn’t have any on “his” cart. We were then given a bar for each of our staterooms. Day one - 15 minutes on the ship my son uses the bathroom and it begins to back up. We flushed again and it all went down - I blamed my son for maybe using too much paper but he swears he didn’t . Later on after dinner I come back to the room and use the bathroom and it flushed but then would t fill entirely up with water again. Well, I woke up at 4 am to the toilet backed up and a wet floor - I was nauseous thinking about this - called maintenance right away , they came and fixed it and then never cleaned it until our regularly scheduled housekeeping! This was now grossing me out. As we are disembarking in Catalina we had to wait for the tenders down this long corridor and the stench of sewage or garbage began to resonate , luckily before I hurled I remembered that we had laid “faster to the fun” pricing and asked if that meant we could board the tenders first - Thank God! The smell in that hallway where they had people waiting like cattle to board the tenders was unbearable. The smell of garbage lingered and got worse as we got closer to the end of the cruise. Other People on board noticed it too and a few who had been on this ship before thought it was normal. I have never been on a ship where the smell of raw sewage and garbage was ever prominent on guest decks. Bizzaro - Anywho the food was fantastic! The cantina was our favorite and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. Orlando , the cruise director , must be the hardest working cruise director in crushing history. He was EVERYWHERE. He’s a sweet man and made everything fun. The shows for the little ones were great - the kids club watched movies and drew which my kids found boring , the casino was fantastic - Maggie was an amazing dealer who was friendly and personable. The Bingo situation seemed rigged to me - they had two bingos and the prize was supposed to be $5,000 - then each winner only won $250 - my kids were even like - wow what a letdown. Binging bradley went a little too fast on the end and never gave anyone a moment to “catch up” the numbers weren’t on the board while he was verifying - you kind of got the vibe that they didn’t want you to win lol. Which I guess they don’t . Anywho - this was my 2nd Carnival cruise and I loved the staff, the food , and the entertainment- but what are they doing about the most important aspect - hygiene?? Not the place you want to cut corners. We managed to enjoy our time - but I was severely disturbed by how dirty everything seemed . We sat by a window for dinner and you could not see at all out the window - it seemed to have Layers of grime on them. Sorrry if I’m being too harsh on this older ship - but you’ve got to make some changes. If this were my first cruise experience I would have to say - never again! Read Less

A 40th Birthday Celebration with nearly 20 friends was fun, but could've been a better experience. To be fair, this was my very first cruise, so I have no other cruise ships to compare it to, but I do have a lot of experience traveling as I work in the travel industry. Also, I set my expectation fairly low, and it was about accurate. The level that our cabin was located on, Floor 6, Upper Deck, smelled like raw sewage for the last 2 full days and had industrial equipment in the hallways, so I was not sure if something happened or if it is just a regular issue with that ship. FOOD The majority of the hot food was barely served warm, and the broccoli on my main entree plate in the fine dining room was still frozen. There was no sauce on my plate, so I just asked for a side of ranch dressing to add flavor. The baked potato was also cold in the middle. DRINKS The beer selection was fairly varied, in that they had a lager, an IPA, and even a gluten free beer, however, not a lot of craft beer options and the only draft beer I saw was the self serve Miller Lite in the buffet area. The higher end selection of liquor that was included in the adult drink package was great, but when I tried to order an Aperol Spritz, I had an issue with several bartenders, who gave me attitude because they were not allowed to mix a champagne cocktail, so one refused to even make the drink, and another would only give me a glass of champagne first, then wait 5 minutes to charge my drink card for a shot of Aperol on the side and a glass of ice, (there is a waiting period between the number of drinks a guest is allowed to consume in a certain time period). So, I then got charged for 2 drinks, and had to make the drink myself which was ridiculous! Also, it should be noted that this was my first drink of the day, so I was completely sober. ENTERTAINMENT The comedian was hilarious!! The dancers were great! I wish they had a movie theatre or better wifi. I bought the wifi package before I embarked but it was not working so well, so I cancelled it and just used the Carnival App to connect with friends. I made the mistake of staying on the ship when we arrived in Mexico, and there were very limited options of things to do for the day on the ship. The weather was super cold (50's) and really windy, so laying by the pool or going down the water slides was not really an option. The casino was closed, as were the shops and theatre's and even the majority of bars & restaurants were closed until the late afternoon. SAFETY The safety demo that was required, was completely pointless. They made us wait a really long time to even enter the theatre and then all they showed us was how to put on a life vest and kept us in there for far too long to be shown even that. Overall, I think I would go on another cruise line to be able to compare it, but I would never go on another Carnival Cruise again. Not my cup of tea. If you value food, aesthetics, and a higher caliber of service, pay a few dollars more and choose another cruise line. Read Less

I chose this cruise because of the low cost (ha! you get what you pay for!) and the allure of a *fun* experience. The first disappointment was with the room's ventilation system. Freezing cold! To moderate the air flow you had to REACH up to a knob above one of the beds. This was pretty high up...I don't know how a person who is vertically challenged would manage it (I am 5'8"}. There was a horrible odor in the room as well...like a Sulphur smell which made it hard to relax. Turning the system all the way "off" made the room become stuffy since there was then no circulation. I could not breathe at night and woke up puffy eyed and stuffed up. Food: Bad. Very bad. The main dining room, the Mardi Gras, had beautiful menus with descriptions that did not match the actual food being served. A shrimp cocktail arrived on a plate. Not around the rim of a glass. Shrimp were small and flaccid. My Mahi Mahi was overcooked. The so-called grilled chicken breast looked like a Tyson frozen breast with grill marks (although it was moist). Baked potatoes were overcooked and flavorless. I could go on and on. Very disappointing. The food on the Lido deck, for lunch, was just a tad better. The hamburger joint was good. The desserts were good some days, just ok the others. Self serve ice cream station was good. The chocolate chip cookies tasted homemade and were stellar. There was "tea time" on Valentine's Day which was a joke. The tea offerings: Lipton and Green tea. That was it. Unless you wanted to pay out of pocket for herbal. Outrageous. Spa: Clean and well appointed with shiowers, sauna and steam. I enjoyed both the steam and sauna. Treated myself to a pedicure and was hustled to buy every product she used on my feet!!! Not a relaxing experience at all. Weather: Not the ship's fault, but it was terrible. Rained almost every day including the port stop in Ensenada. Not happiness. Could not sunbathe on deck or read. There were a couple of really bad days with the waves in the ocean really rocking and swaying the ship. In the cabin, in the bed, it felt like someone was shaking and tilting the bed frame! Scary. Adult Only deck: The "Serenity Deck" was for adults only. Small but ok. The lounge chairs were plentiful but did not position in a "straight sitting up" position. The straight back chairs were in the back, away from the great views of the water. There was a waiter that came around to take drink orders. Elevators: Very hard to navigate and figure out "what" was "where" and the best way to get there. Cleanliness of ship: Very clean. Carpets, elevators, glass panes in doors. This was impressive. Entertainment: I don't gamble so can't comment on the casions. I attended a couple of comedian shows that were unprofessional and crudely funny, making fun of audience members instead of relying on their own material. Karaoke, however, was entertaining! Drinks: After the tax and gratuity were (automatically) added, all drinks were $11+. I had brought my own Diet Coke onboard so saved that way. I bought the 12-pack bottled water package and that actually lasted for the 5 days for 2 people. Library: Didn't get a chance to really enjoy this room. The times I wanted to go were after dinner (7) and it was being used for the "Chef's Table" sitting. Can't they find somewhere else for this? Staff: Very accommodating and friendly and concerned about any problem brought to them. I complained at just about every meal and every effort was made to satisfy me. Unfortunately, I still wasn't satisfied but at least they tried with a smile. Running into staff in the hallways and asking for directions was not a problem. Everyone was very nice and helpful. Embarking and disembarking: Very organized and fluid. No problems, there. That's about all I can think of right now. I think this was not the ship for me. I like a little more "high end" dining experience and a higher caliber of entertainment. Read Less

Never going back--even if free So there are good things about this cruise. 1. SOME of the staff were very nice. The guy who cleaned our room was amazing-super friendly and always greeted us with a smile. The girls working the excursions. . BUT we had a few VERY BAD THINGS. 1. The FOOD WAS HORRIBLE across the board. It was like bad, cheap mall food and there was hardly any available. The food at dinner was a little better, but two nights, I didn't even eat because it was so yucky. Cold, soggy, smelled "off", and it was obvious that it was premade. In the Mardi Gras room, I tried to eat there twice with no luck. Bad service--one guy got really mad that I didn't want coffee and the next day the guy kept bringing me the wrong food. They tried hard, but it was bad. Room service was lackluster and they charged for everything. 2. There wasn't much to do on the ship except drink and since so much of the ship was filled with smokers, it was bad. 3. They didn't explain anything to us and when we asked we got yelled at. We were very confused much of the time (it was our first cruise)*** come back to this. 4. Excursions were very expensive and they were super unorganized--getting off the ship etc. It was chaotic. 5. The "safety" thing was just the cruise director taking roll and telling us what shows were coming up. And he mentioned that kids had armbands. We would have been screwed had anything happened. 6. Our stateroom was FREEZING. I had on three shirts, a sweatshirt, two pairs of thick socks, a hat, gloves and a scarf and got under the covers. There was no way to warm up. The shower was lukewarm. So we FROZE. It was warmer on the deck in the rain and 50 degrees. I caught a really bad cold and was coughing. It was so uncomfortable. When I asked the man who cleaned our room he said that was how it was. It was like camping, outside, in the winter. This was probably the thing that was the hardest to deal with. 7. The internet for $59 was super slow and you couldn't even access the app without it. Only one person can be on it. 8. The hallway and room smelled like rotting feces at all times. (E78) 9. We were by the atrium where they had parties and loud music and games from early morning til midnight or later. THE WORST WAS this one lady at the guest services. We asked her how to disembark on day three--we thought we should know. She started immediately yelling at us to "turn on the tv!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" when I explained that on the Carnival TV channel there was only ads and a cartoon explaining how to put on a life jacket she got more angry. She told us to TURN ON THE TV!!!! IT WAS ON THERE. Then I suggested that the rooms should have a book or something with information like hotels do---she got upset again. She demanded to know why we were confused. I said that for example we had no idea where to eat or anything and that's when she lost her mind. She literally said, "JESUS CHRIST!!!" and then called me a B**ch Then put her hand up and refused to answer any questions. We were then AFRAID to ask anyone anything. I was in tears at that point because I hadn't eaten all day (due to the lack of food choices) and just wanted an explanation of what time we could leave on Friday morning. There was no need to be nasty. I even explained that it was our first cruise. I left in tears. I asked a man in the hallway to see a manager and he told me that there was no such thing on Carnival cruises and that guest services were the boss. I explained what happened and he said that was up to them how to treat people. Then I said, "so you could verbally abuse me and no one would do anything, not even the captain?" He confirmed. I was crying. I went outside to sit on deck nine to calm down, because there was nothing we could do to get help. I got locked outside for 45 minutes. :( I don't know if I will get a lawyer because of he behavior, but honestly verbally abusing guests is UNCALLED FOR. Also she NEVER told us how to do anything. I went down there at 3 am and asked someone else. To end on a good note, the guys in the dining hall were amazing. Once we figured out where to go and went there every night at 8:15, they went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. Sadly this was our honeymoon and because the stateroom smelling like poop, being about 50 degrees, and being called names and cursed out. It ruined it for us. I am drafting a letter---the old fashioned way and mailing it to them. I hope they refund at least half or it, but even if they do, we aren't going back. It was really, really, really bad. PROS: some of the staff, and the people we met, the comedy shows were good, the entertainment shows were good. CONS: Food, some of the staff, freezing & stinky rooms, no hot water in shower, general confusiong, loud parties outside our room. Read Less

Last year I took a 3 day cruise with Carnival Victory. I’d have to say I was disappointed this year with Carnival Inspiration as I compare it to last year’s cruise because: The ship needs updating badly, there were not enough adult activities during the day, in the adult only deck section (which is extremely hard to find)- there was no bar, guest services was unfriendly along with several bartenders, the food was subpar in the buffet area, there were no areas where food was offered during non-meal times (which Carnival Victory had and I hear a lot of other ships do too), the safety check in Muster C was a waste of time because you couldn’t see the person on stage demonstrating or hear the overhead announcement for safety instructions, you also couldn’t hear the overhead announcements while in the cabins so if you’re not in the hallway or a common area- you don’t know what they’re trying to tell you. I would say Orlando (cruise director) and Alvin (Orlando’s assistant) did a PHENOMINAL job with entertainment. I wish they hosted more activities during the day for adults though, because there were hour stents when there was nothing to do but sit at a bar or on a deck (it was a bit cool, so we barely used the deck). Jodi (stand up comedian) was GREAT and had me laughing so hard that I cried. Mon (our housekeeper) was OUTSTANDING. Mon had great customer service and attended to our request quickly. I was also disappointed there was not a deal on he pictures. Not even the day we left the ship. There were just so many times that I didn’t feel there was adequate customer service. Next year, I’m not sure I would give Carnival another try because I hear so many great reviews about Royal Caribbean. I would like to express how great of a time I had during the horseback riding excursion in Ensanada. Jose was our guide and he did an AWESOME job. All the men at the horseback riding place were personable, made sure we were safe during the ride through the mountains and provided us an overall meaningful experience. Read Less

The price was good. But you know what they say, you get what you pay for. The drinks were watered down so I ordered "shots" instead. But let me tell you, I had 4 shots of (supposedly, PATRON Tequila) and after the 4 shots, I didn't even have a tiny buzz. They were very easy to go down, but even Patron has a bit of a kick. It tasted like water with a bit of alcohol. I am normally a lightweight. One shot and I feel a lil buzz. But after 4 shots? No, something was just not right. And the last cruise I went on, all the food was included, but this time, Room Service was not included and at dinner, if you wanted anything like steak or lobster you had to pay an additional $20 each meal!! That was crazy!! Regarding beverages, it use to be all included except Alcohol, which is understandable. But now, you have to pay for sodas as well... The rooms weren't always cleaned properly and I felt that our person who cleaned our room, was constantly in there. Moving our stuff etc.... we didn't like that too much. Read Less

Carnival Inspiration Stayed in a Grand Suite on a 3 day trip to Catalina and Ensenada (with a day at sea). The suite feels dated and a little scruffy (scraped paint, marks on the walls, etc.). But it was fairly comfortable (once I figured out the non-intuitive and loud air conditioning). On the other hand, the water in the shower never got above tepid. The toiletries were extremely limited. And I could only find two outlets! The room service menu is limited but the food we ordered was good. The main dining room breakfasts were very good (I recommend the eggs Benedict). Portions were small but (although they don’t tell you this) you can order as many sides as you want. Dinner in the dining room was also very good. (Ditto the portion size comment.) Decent wines. I had steak three nights in a row (filet, prime rib, and NY strip) and all three were cooked to order and tasty. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The Lido deck food service was okay (the taco stand is the best) but the whole Lido deck vibe is kind of hokey and unappetizing. The vaunted soft serve is not up to Dairy Queen standards. The equally vaunted Guy Fieri burgers were limp and unappetizing. The passengers are an odd mix of geezers and youngsters. Everybody was very friendly, but almost everybody drank a lot. And in some cases, quite a LOT. The social activities seemed mainly geared to the young crowd (hairiest chest contests, Harry Potter trivia contests, twerking, etc.). The “premium” satellite internet connection was slow. Very slow. Lousy TV service. We did our own shore excursions. The sales pitches—photos, shops, future cruises—are relentless. It got old quick. Annoyingly, when we tried to cancel spa reservations more than 24 hours in advance, they did not refund our money. Seemed like everybody on board smoked when they got into the bar and casino. My clothes reeked of smoke when we got home. All in all, we had a good time but we made most of our own fun by taking private shore excursions. Other than the food service, the on board experience was at best “meh.” I very much doubt we’ll take another Carnival cruise. Definitely not on Inspiration. Read Less
