I went on this ship as it was the only thing available at the last minute when trying to find a cruise to take my 30y.o. sister on who has never cruised before. I had done this itinerary twice before (Ensenada twice and Catalina Island once) and I had done this ship before in 2015 being in a wedding as my friend was married on it. The ship looks old, worn, and dirty. We saw crew members dusting the walls in the morning but important things like cleaning our oceanview window so we could have a clear view outside and pickup up trash in the public bathrooms were missed. The handwashing machine near Blue Iguana didn't work properly most of the time, just flashing a red light and and hand sanitizer near there was never filled. The bathroom nearest the buffet on port side, the air dreyer never worked and there were no paper towels available. Within 20min of boarding the ship we sat down in the buffet to eat lunch and the wooden bench part of the seat in one of the booths completely fell off the bench making my sister almost fall. Two crewmembers walked by, saw it was broken, and did nothing. Certain coffee makers and other drink dispensers didn't work the entire cruise. Our sheets had holes and there was only one outlet in the whole room. The food in the dining room was more miss than hit and no one encouraged hand washing like they do on NCL. I rarely touched the ladles and spoons to serve myself, using a blue cloth napkin instead, yet I'm still sick the day after the cruise. The casino house edge on roulette is insane with Carnival adding a B (bonus) green space to the the standard 0/00. The lady running the trivia was unfamiliar with the subject matter of some of the trivia games and while generally having people from all over the world work on the ship is an amazing display of diversity, in this case it made trivias less fun when you can't understand the host. Not only when running the Harry Potter trivia was she unaware of simple things like Ron's last name being pronounced Weasley and not Wesley but the second question asked was WRONG! "Of the three main characters, who is the oldest?" The correct answer is Hermione, yet on her sheet (and clearly because she's not versed on the subject matter to know otherwise) the answer says Ron, which is incorrect and leaves a damper on the experience itself when those running a trivia don't know the correct answers. German C, the DJ on board always looked like he hated being there. Nightclub hits was supposed to start at 11:30 in the dance club but normally he didn't stop playing oldschool or 90's hits until 12:15am or later making the fun of dancing to current music only last about 45min or so. Also, our server on the third night in Mardi Gras was not very kind nor patient. And the person staffing the pizza area in the back of the buffet always had an attitude as if you were bothering him. The Cruise Director Ryan Rose was great and so was his right hand man 'Fernando(?)'. They were the positives of the cruise. The two shows in the theaters while short and had basic choreography and wasn't anything new or exciting, was still entertaining and the male lead singer/dancer was very good. My sister enjoyed the nightclub but wished they played current hits starting earlier in the night since it ended early. Too many times she tried to eat a caesar salad but it either had too much or too little dressing no matter how she specified it. Overall she enjoyed herself so in my opinion if you haven't been on many cruises, or haven't been on new and large ships or haven't stayed in a balcony cabin before and don't have much to compare it too you may enjoy this cruise for a quick getaway if you are local to the area. We took this cruise to celebrate a friend's birthday. The cost was right and it seemed like a good time was awaiting us on the ocean. Let me start with, THE GOOD: Good friends Funny times at Karaoke The Tequila part of the Ensenada tour THE BAD: The food was awful. Dinner was not served on time nor at a temperature, you would consider "warm". On one evening, a friend paid for the upcharged "surf and turf", watched all of us eat our "lukewarm" meal, and still hadn't eaten his (after an hour and 25 minutes). Not until we got up to walk around and look for the food service manager did his food arrive. The service was forgettable. How do you include a gratuity on a final bill when the service you received was terrible. Water started with ice then, you'd receive a warm second glass. I'd ask for a coca cola and by the time we were ready to leave the table, the drink would arrive. The excursion is dangerous, in a sense. You take 20 people out to drink beer and tequila, then you entrust them to walk back to the boat on their own?!?! I get it, it's a tasting, but the sensible thing to do would be to make sure "EVERYONE" is transported back to the boat at the same time, the same way we left the boat... TOGETHER... Our bed felt like to twin mattresses pushed together and didn't offer a great rest. Read Less

So I would like to start with a positive. The embarkation process was super easy and organized this was better than on Celebrity, Royal , or Norwegian. We knew that this was an older ship and we really only booked this as a quick getaway from LA to a few places we’d never been to before. Upon arrival to our stateroom , the attendant (who was lovely) informed us that there was no hand soap. They were waiting for it to get on the ship but there wasn’t any yet. I immediately began to panic - if all 2,000 guests are using the bathroom and then not using hand soap , that’s a health issue. So I called guest services to inquire - she told me to use shower gel for now but that I most likely misunderstood the stateroom attendant bc he just didn’t have any on “his” cart. We were then given a bar for each of our staterooms. Day one - 15 minutes on the ship my son uses the bathroom and it begins to back up. We flushed again and it all went down - I blamed my son for maybe using too much paper but he swears he didn’t . Later on after dinner I come back to the room and use the bathroom and it flushed but then would t fill entirely up with water again. Well, I woke up at 4 am to the toilet backed up and a wet floor - I was nauseous thinking about this - called maintenance right away , they came and fixed it and then never cleaned it until our regularly scheduled housekeeping! This was now grossing me out. As we are disembarking in Catalina we had to wait for the tenders down this long corridor and the stench of sewage or garbage began to resonate , luckily before I hurled I remembered that we had laid “faster to the fun” pricing and asked if that meant we could board the tenders first - Thank God! The smell in that hallway where they had people waiting like cattle to board the tenders was unbearable. The smell of garbage lingered and got worse as we got closer to the end of the cruise. Other People on board noticed it too and a few who had been on this ship before thought it was normal. I have never been on a ship where the smell of raw sewage and garbage was ever prominent on guest decks. Bizzaro - Anywho the food was fantastic! The cantina was our favorite and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. Orlando , the cruise director , must be the hardest working cruise director in crushing history. He was EVERYWHERE. He’s a sweet man and made everything fun. The shows for the little ones were great - the kids club watched movies and drew which my kids found boring , the casino was fantastic - Maggie was an amazing dealer who was friendly and personable. The Bingo situation seemed rigged to me - they had two bingos and the prize was supposed to be $5,000 - then each winner only won $250 - my kids were even like - wow what a letdown. Binging bradley went a little too fast on the end and never gave anyone a moment to “catch up” the numbers weren’t on the board while he was verifying - you kind of got the vibe that they didn’t want you to win lol. Which I guess they don’t . Anywho - this was my 2nd Carnival cruise and I loved the staff, the food , and the entertainment- but what are they doing about the most important aspect - hygiene?? Not the place you want to cut corners. We managed to enjoy our time - but I was severely disturbed by how dirty everything seemed . We sat by a window for dinner and you could not see at all out the window - it seemed to have Layers of grime on them. Sorrry if I’m being too harsh on this older ship - but you’ve got to make some changes. If this were my first cruise experience I would have to say - never again! Read Less

A 40th Birthday Celebration with nearly 20 friends was fun, but could've been a better experience. To be fair, this was my very first cruise, so I have no other cruise ships to compare it to, but I do have a lot of experience traveling as I work in the travel industry. Also, I set my expectation fairly low, and it was about accurate. The level that our cabin was located on, Floor 6, Upper Deck, smelled like raw sewage for the last 2 full days and had industrial equipment in the hallways, so I was not sure if something happened or if it is just a regular issue with that ship. FOOD The majority of the hot food was barely served warm, and the broccoli on my main entree plate in the fine dining room was still frozen. There was no sauce on my plate, so I just asked for a side of ranch dressing to add flavor. The baked potato was also cold in the middle. DRINKS The beer selection was fairly varied, in that they had a lager, an IPA, and even a gluten free beer, however, not a lot of craft beer options and the only draft beer I saw was the self serve Miller Lite in the buffet area. The higher end selection of liquor that was included in the adult drink package was great, but when I tried to order an Aperol Spritz, I had an issue with several bartenders, who gave me attitude because they were not allowed to mix a champagne cocktail, so one refused to even make the drink, and another would only give me a glass of champagne first, then wait 5 minutes to charge my drink card for a shot of Aperol on the side and a glass of ice, (there is a waiting period between the number of drinks a guest is allowed to consume in a certain time period). So, I then got charged for 2 drinks, and had to make the drink myself which was ridiculous! Also, it should be noted that this was my first drink of the day, so I was completely sober. ENTERTAINMENT The comedian was hilarious!! The dancers were great! I wish they had a movie theatre or better wifi. I bought the wifi package before I embarked but it was not working so well, so I cancelled it and just used the Carnival App to connect with friends. I made the mistake of staying on the ship when we arrived in Mexico, and there were very limited options of things to do for the day on the ship. The weather was super cold (50's) and really windy, so laying by the pool or going down the water slides was not really an option. The casino was closed, as were the shops and theatre's and even the majority of bars & restaurants were closed until the late afternoon. SAFETY The safety demo that was required, was completely pointless. They made us wait a really long time to even enter the theatre and then all they showed us was how to put on a life vest and kept us in there for far too long to be shown even that. Overall, I think I would go on another cruise line to be able to compare it, but I would never go on another Carnival Cruise again. Not my cup of tea. If you value food, aesthetics, and a higher caliber of service, pay a few dollars more and choose another cruise line. Read Less

I chose this cruise because of the low cost (ha! you get what you pay for!) and the allure of a *fun* experience. The first disappointment was with the room's ventilation system. Freezing cold! To moderate the air flow you had to REACH up to a knob above one of the beds. This was pretty high up...I don't know how a person who is vertically challenged would manage it (I am 5'8"}. There was a horrible odor in the room as well...like a Sulphur smell which made it hard to relax. Turning the system all the way "off" made the room become stuffy since there was then no circulation. I could not breathe at night and woke up puffy eyed and stuffed up. Food: Bad. Very bad. The main dining room, the Mardi Gras, had beautiful menus with descriptions that did not match the actual food being served. A shrimp cocktail arrived on a plate. Not around the rim of a glass. Shrimp were small and flaccid. My Mahi Mahi was overcooked. The so-called grilled chicken breast looked like a Tyson frozen breast with grill marks (although it was moist). Baked potatoes were overcooked and flavorless. I could go on and on. Very disappointing. The food on the Lido deck, for lunch, was just a tad better. The hamburger joint was good. The desserts were good some days, just ok the others. Self serve ice cream station was good. The chocolate chip cookies tasted homemade and were stellar. There was "tea time" on Valentine's Day which was a joke. The tea offerings: Lipton and Green tea. That was it. Unless you wanted to pay out of pocket for herbal. Outrageous. Spa: Clean and well appointed with shiowers, sauna and steam. I enjoyed both the steam and sauna. Treated myself to a pedicure and was hustled to buy every product she used on my feet!!! Not a relaxing experience at all. Weather: Not the ship's fault, but it was terrible. Rained almost every day including the port stop in Ensenada. Not happiness. Could not sunbathe on deck or read. There were a couple of really bad days with the waves in the ocean really rocking and swaying the ship. In the cabin, in the bed, it felt like someone was shaking and tilting the bed frame! Scary. Adult Only deck: The "Serenity Deck" was for adults only. Small but ok. The lounge chairs were plentiful but did not position in a "straight sitting up" position. The straight back chairs were in the back, away from the great views of the water. There was a waiter that came around to take drink orders. Elevators: Very hard to navigate and figure out "what" was "where" and the best way to get there. Cleanliness of ship: Very clean. Carpets, elevators, glass panes in doors. This was impressive. Entertainment: I don't gamble so can't comment on the casions. I attended a couple of comedian shows that were unprofessional and crudely funny, making fun of audience members instead of relying on their own material. Karaoke, however, was entertaining! Drinks: After the tax and gratuity were (automatically) added, all drinks were $11+. I had brought my own Diet Coke onboard so saved that way. I bought the 12-pack bottled water package and that actually lasted for the 5 days for 2 people. Library: Didn't get a chance to really enjoy this room. The times I wanted to go were after dinner (7) and it was being used for the "Chef's Table" sitting. Can't they find somewhere else for this? Staff: Very accommodating and friendly and concerned about any problem brought to them. I complained at just about every meal and every effort was made to satisfy me. Unfortunately, I still wasn't satisfied but at least they tried with a smile. Running into staff in the hallways and asking for directions was not a problem. Everyone was very nice and helpful. Embarking and disembarking: Very organized and fluid. No problems, there. That's about all I can think of right now. I think this was not the ship for me. I like a little more "high end" dining experience and a higher caliber of entertainment. Read Less

Never going back--even if free So there are good things about this cruise. 1. SOME of the staff were very nice. The guy who cleaned our room was amazing-super friendly and always greeted us with a smile. The girls working the excursions. . BUT we had a few VERY BAD THINGS. 1. The FOOD WAS HORRIBLE across the board. It was like bad, cheap mall food and there was hardly any available. The food at dinner was a little better, but two nights, I didn't even eat because it was so yucky. Cold, soggy, smelled "off", and it was obvious that it was premade. In the Mardi Gras room, I tried to eat there twice with no luck. Bad service--one guy got really mad that I didn't want coffee and the next day the guy kept bringing me the wrong food. They tried hard, but it was bad. Room service was lackluster and they charged for everything. 2. There wasn't much to do on the ship except drink and since so much of the ship was filled with smokers, it was bad. 3. They didn't explain anything to us and when we asked we got yelled at. We were very confused much of the time (it was our first cruise)*** come back to this. 4. Excursions were very expensive and they were super unorganized--getting off the ship etc. It was chaotic. 5. The "safety" thing was just the cruise director taking roll and telling us what shows were coming up. And he mentioned that kids had armbands. We would have been screwed had anything happened. 6. Our stateroom was FREEZING. I had on three shirts, a sweatshirt, two pairs of thick socks, a hat, gloves and a scarf and got under the covers. There was no way to warm up. The shower was lukewarm. So we FROZE. It was warmer on the deck in the rain and 50 degrees. I caught a really bad cold and was coughing. It was so uncomfortable. When I asked the man who cleaned our room he said that was how it was. It was like camping, outside, in the winter. This was probably the thing that was the hardest to deal with. 7. The internet for $59 was super slow and you couldn't even access the app without it. Only one person can be on it. 8. The hallway and room smelled like rotting feces at all times. (E78) 9. We were by the atrium where they had parties and loud music and games from early morning til midnight or later. THE WORST WAS this one lady at the guest services. We asked her how to disembark on day three--we thought we should know. She started immediately yelling at us to "turn on the tv!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" when I explained that on the Carnival TV channel there was only ads and a cartoon explaining how to put on a life jacket she got more angry. She told us to TURN ON THE TV!!!! IT WAS ON THERE. Then I suggested that the rooms should have a book or something with information like hotels do---she got upset again. She demanded to know why we were confused. I said that for example we had no idea where to eat or anything and that's when she lost her mind. She literally said, "JESUS CHRIST!!!" and then called me a B**ch Then put her hand up and refused to answer any questions. We were then AFRAID to ask anyone anything. I was in tears at that point because I hadn't eaten all day (due to the lack of food choices) and just wanted an explanation of what time we could leave on Friday morning. There was no need to be nasty. I even explained that it was our first cruise. I left in tears. I asked a man in the hallway to see a manager and he told me that there was no such thing on Carnival cruises and that guest services were the boss. I explained what happened and he said that was up to them how to treat people. Then I said, "so you could verbally abuse me and no one would do anything, not even the captain?" He confirmed. I was crying. I went outside to sit on deck nine to calm down, because there was nothing we could do to get help. I got locked outside for 45 minutes. :( I don't know if I will get a lawyer because of he behavior, but honestly verbally abusing guests is UNCALLED FOR. Also she NEVER told us how to do anything. I went down there at 3 am and asked someone else. To end on a good note, the guys in the dining hall were amazing. Once we figured out where to go and went there every night at 8:15, they went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. Sadly this was our honeymoon and because the stateroom smelling like poop, being about 50 degrees, and being called names and cursed out. It ruined it for us. I am drafting a letter---the old fashioned way and mailing it to them. I hope they refund at least half or it, but even if they do, we aren't going back. It was really, really, really bad. PROS: some of the staff, and the people we met, the comedy shows were good, the entertainment shows were good. CONS: Food, some of the staff, freezing & stinky rooms, no hot water in shower, general confusiong, loud parties outside our room. Read Less

Last year I took a 3 day cruise with Carnival Victory. I’d have to say I was disappointed this year with Carnival Inspiration as I compare it to last year’s cruise because: The ship needs updating badly, there were not enough adult activities during the day, in the adult only deck section (which is extremely hard to find)- there was no bar, guest services was unfriendly along with several bartenders, the food was subpar in the buffet area, there were no areas where food was offered during non-meal times (which Carnival Victory had and I hear a lot of other ships do too), the safety check in Muster C was a waste of time because you couldn’t see the person on stage demonstrating or hear the overhead announcement for safety instructions, you also couldn’t hear the overhead announcements while in the cabins so if you’re not in the hallway or a common area- you don’t know what they’re trying to tell you. I would say Orlando (cruise director) and Alvin (Orlando’s assistant) did a PHENOMINAL job with entertainment. I wish they hosted more activities during the day for adults though, because there were hour stents when there was nothing to do but sit at a bar or on a deck (it was a bit cool, so we barely used the deck). Jodi (stand up comedian) was GREAT and had me laughing so hard that I cried. Mon (our housekeeper) was OUTSTANDING. Mon had great customer service and attended to our request quickly. I was also disappointed there was not a deal on he pictures. Not even the day we left the ship. There were just so many times that I didn’t feel there was adequate customer service. Next year, I’m not sure I would give Carnival another try because I hear so many great reviews about Royal Caribbean. I would like to express how great of a time I had during the horseback riding excursion in Ensanada. Jose was our guide and he did an AWESOME job. All the men at the horseback riding place were personable, made sure we were safe during the ride through the mountains and provided us an overall meaningful experience. Read Less

But let me tell you, I had 4 shots of (supposedly, PATRON Tequila) and after the 4 shots, I didn't even have a tiny buzz. They were very easy to go down, but even Patron has a bit of a kick. It tasted like water with a bit of alcohol. I am normally a lightweight. One shot and I feel a lil buzz. But after 4 shots? No, something was just not right. And the last cruise I went on, all the food was included, but this time, Room Service was not included and at dinner, if you wanted anything like steak or lobster you had to pay an additional $20 each meal!! That was crazy!! Regarding beverages, it use to be all included except Alcohol, which is understandable. But now, you have to pay for sodas as well... The rooms weren't always cleaned properly and I felt that our person who cleaned our room, was constantly in there. Moving our stuff etc.... we didn't like that too much. Read Less

Carnival Inspiration Stayed in a Grand Suite on a 3 day trip to Catalina and Ensenada (with a day at sea). The suite feels dated and a little scruffy (scraped paint, marks on the walls, etc.). But it was fairly comfortable (once I figured out the non-intuitive and loud air conditioning). On the other hand, the water in the shower never got above tepid. The toiletries were extremely limited. And I could only find two outlets! The room service menu is limited but the food we ordered was good. The main dining room breakfasts were very good (I recommend the eggs Benedict). Portions were small but (although they don’t tell you this) you can order as many sides as you want. Dinner in the dining room was also very good. (Ditto the portion size comment.) Decent wines. I had steak three nights in a row (filet, prime rib, and NY strip) and all three were cooked to order and tasty. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The Lido deck food service was okay (the taco stand is the best) but the whole Lido deck vibe is kind of hokey and unappetizing. The vaunted soft serve is not up to Dairy Queen standards. The equally vaunted Guy Fieri burgers were limp and unappetizing. The passengers are an odd mix of geezers and youngsters. Everybody was very friendly, but almost everybody drank a lot. And in some cases, quite a LOT. The social activities seemed mainly geared to the young crowd (hairiest chest contests, Harry Potter trivia contests, twerking, etc.). The “premium” satellite internet connection was slow. Very slow. Lousy TV service. We did our own shore excursions. The sales pitches—photos, shops, future cruises—are relentless. It got old quick. Annoyingly, when we tried to cancel spa reservations more than 24 hours in advance, they did not refund our money. Seemed like everybody on board smoked when they got into the bar and casino. My clothes reeked of smoke when we got home. All in all, we had a good time but we made most of our own fun by taking private shore excursions. Other than the food service, the on board experience was at best “meh.” I very much doubt we’ll take another Carnival cruise. Definitely not on Inspiration. Read Less

Let me first preface this by saying that this was my wife and I's first cruise. We figured we would take a 4 day cruise to see if this kind of vacation suits us. We had heard positive things in the past from other cruise goers and thought we would give Carnival a shot. Getting onto the ship was ok. We were 5 minutes early for our allotted time and instead of letting us wait, which would have been the much faster line the person outside chased us down and forced us into the early line which was quite long. We got on board around 1pm. Entering the boat we were ushered to the lido buffet. Into what could only be explained as a mad ant pile of humanity, it felt more like a sardine can than a boat. It took us 30 minutes of stalking people as they ate to find a seat. Finally we did. The buffet food overall was similar to an average all-inclusive resort in Mexico, bland and cold. The shining star in the buffet was the Deli, amazing sandwiches. We could have lived off the sandwiches and Guys' burgers alone. We then went to find our stateroom. It was as we expected small but functional. We were mid ship 7 deck E135. The windows were so filthy that we could barely see out of them. We chalked this up to the joys of being at sea. Clearly a disadvantage of being on a boat that does not have any balconies. The TV only had 4 stations, TBS, TNT, TCM and one movie channel. My wife's luggage was waiting for us outside, but mine did not show up until 4 hours later. Definitely not ideal but not the end of the world. We saw several shows on board, by far the best was the comedy club, B.T. was hilarious both times we saw him. The other entertainment was very lack luster. We got off the boat at both port stops. We rent a golf cart on Catalina island and this is my wife's highlight of the entire trip, it was a blast! In Ensenada we moved along to a shuttle bus that cost $4 round trip to downtown. We were on this bus for all of 5 minutes before it dropped us off at what appeared to be a back yard make shift market place. We felt uncomfortable there so we found the nearest main road and started walking. We walked for 15-20 minutes before realized we could actually see our boat. So we just walked back to it. We are not your average 30 something travelers. We do not drink alcohol or like to party. With that being said we bought the bottomless bubbles drink package. What a waste! They don't tell you they charge you tax on the beverage you've already paid for when docked. And the only time we could use it was at sit down dinner service. The only place you can get I filled is by a waiter or at a bar, good luck with that. They have self service beer stations but you have to fight to get a soda?! In the buffet they only served lemonade and Ice tea. That's what we ended up drinking the entire cruise. Clearly We are not cruisers! now we know. Read Less

Old ship with mold on the windows. Except for Guy's Burgers and the ice cream machine the other food served in the dinning room and buffet was below Carnival standards. Dinning room service was OK. However, when a bogus charge was discovered on my bill I called Customer Service and a Russian or Slavic speaking lady said she would take the charge off failed to do so, I had personally go to the Service Desk to get it properly adjusted. There were no temperature controls in our room and of course, no refrigerator or hair dryers. The hot tubs were filled with the kids. Reminded us of downtown Las Vegas in the old part. One show was quite good, but the rest of the entertainment was disappointing. In the buffet line (if you could get around the elbowing crowd) the bacon and some other edibles could only be doled out by staff members. Although we were told by our room attendant would turn down the room 6 and 9pm, when we left our room (E61) at 6:45 pm. the room was not turned down. When we requested ice for our room, it was provided in a large plastic tub. Not a proper ice receptacle. The music throughout the ship was set at a very loud level, not conducive to those who want to turn in early? The ship smelled of stale smoke. If you wanted even a mediocre environmental cruise, this is not for you. My wife compared this cruise to the paddle boat made famous in the movie "Porkey's". Read Less

We chose this cruise based on the schedule, closeness to home, and our limited time. I'm usually game for a new experience, this will be my last on Carnival. Pros: Cabin size was larger then I thought it would be. We had a window room with two twin beds. Felt quite roomy. Bathroom was small but adequate. Shower was amazing, Water pressure was great. Housekeeping was great, Edzel was always smiling. He was a great worker, an asset to the company. Embarkation and especially disembarkation was an absolute breeze. If you take your own luggage off the ship it takes no more then 15 minutes to be at curbside. Staff in general were very hard working. We only encountered a couple staff members who were obviously not happy. You can tell their jobs mean a lot to them so they go the extra mile. Cons: Food!!!!! Where do I begin. The food felt like a combination of school cafeteria and possibly prison (don't know first hand on the prison food), serving what ever to the masses. The dining room had the option to "upgrade" for $20.00 per person. We did that on two of the nights but it was just fancier bad food. The steaks were odd tasting, the lobster was rubber. Guy's burger joint did have a good burger but I can't eat burgers three meals a day. Breakfast was always scrambled eggs that had the appearance of foam. Just to recap, the food was plain terrible. The ship looks light something right out of the late 70's, early 80's. The wild lights were so outdated, the glass elevator out of service the whole cruise. The carpet and all the brass was over the top. Our cabin floor had an overwhelming smell of mildew, which we found the reason on day 2. The light fixture (yes, light electric light fixture) had water coming out of it the whole cruise. Not a little, a lot. We had buckets placed in front of our cabins, huge fans going the entire trip. At one point water was pouring from yet another light fixture. Entering our room involved jumping over the soaked floor. The stops were Catalina (very nice) and Ensenada (typical Mexican town). I would rather stay on the ship then to visit Ensenada again. The kids that were with us enjoyed the slide, the pool was too crowded. We were able to find something that they would eat every day. Room service is extremely limited, unless you're willing to pay the upcharge. The game show Hasbro was cute for the kids. A mom of a 3 year old went on stage to help out her kid and bent over, exposing her bottom half to the whole audience. This went on for several minutes without a single person doing something about it. When they were called up to the stage again apparently staff didn't notify her because it happened again. The rated G game show went to a rated R by this event. The shows were ok, the 8 entertainers were very good dancers. Not sure why they felt the need to have one of their male dancers strip to his underwear. While playing mini golf we realized this was the place where people game to smoke pot. Not just once, every evening. Is this legal, security was never once there. I like cruises in general, this being my 6th cruise. I would never take another carnival cruise, even if it was given to me. It was the longest 4 nights of my life. Spend the extra money and go on a cruise line that has a better reputation. Read Less

This was a family cruise with three kids. The kids had a great time and loved it. My complaints are with the quality of service. 1) The room attendants were noisy in the morning and managed to wake everyone up at 7am, 2) we had two rooms, 1 smelled like a wet carpet, the other was fine, 3) food at Mardi Gras restaurant is worse than Dennys, 4) food at Carnavale was only good the last night, otherwise like a wedding chicken dinner plate., 5) not enough and not frequent enough waiters taking orders on the deck for drinks (ended up having to go to the bar myself because it would take them 30 min to bring my drink order), 6) main elevators in the atrium out of service, 7) Brittany, the cruise director woke everyone up at 8am to make announcements, 8) it took over an hour for them to do the Muster drill, 9) scalding water in shower, hard to make cooler, 10) staff seemed overworked and miserable. Other than that it was great. I was on Carnival Miracle a year ago and it was a great experience, maybe a newer ship. Read Less

My wife and I took my mom and stepdad because my mom has always wanted to take a cruise but has never had the opportunity. We picked this three day cruise because we weren't sure if cruising would be either of their cup of tea. We've mostly enjoyed Carnival cruises and have sailed on the Inspiration multiple times. This time was different and far worse. First off, we sailed the Inspiration last year with our children. Last year, the atrium elevators were not working. This year, exactly the same. Maybe (conincidentally) they broke again, but neither trip did we see anybody working to fix them. Considering this is a focal point of the ship, it really does make a huge difference to the overall ambiance. Similarly, one of our favorite things are the dinners. We like to get to know other guests and hear about their days - which often give us ideas for future trips. We ALWAYS request late seating so we have time to enjoy the day - especially on shore days. This time we were given early and when I called to see what happened customer "service" did nothing for me. Somehow in a ten topper table "none" of the other guests attended any of the dinners. Service has always been amazing on the ship. Like past trips, the dining room and cabin staff were amazing. Sadly, after booking a $200 spa package, my wife was given the run around causing her much frustration for overpriced "relaxation". Even worse, on our last night, our cabin door was not working and I needed to go to guest services on multiple occasions. Each time no matter how nice I tried to be, the lone person working the desk was incredibly rude and disagreeable. Maybe she was having a bad day, maybe she is just that way. I know all the staff work long and hard so I bend over backwards to be friendly and respectful but definitely did not receive that in return. Lastly, I have to say, all the items on the menu now that are "additional charges" is ridiculous. I get having other services, products and restaurants that a special but putting them on the menu in the main dining room seems very tacky. Are we headed down the path where "normal" people get top ramen and mac and cheese with the option to upgrade? Aside from food, this is basically a floating hotel, especially given the fact that this cruise seemed to have only one show. Maybe our days with carnival are done. Hopefully, other lines still provide the value and service that made cruising a one-stop-shop for family vacations. Read Less

I did not pick this cruise. I accompanied my daughters dance group on their year end "tour" as a chaperone. I have sailed Carnival before and it was fine, not really my style as I am not a "partier" and don't consume alcohol. The nickname for this itinerary is the "booze cruise" from what I heard. I had an interior stateroom (which I like because the light from the windows doesn't wake me up) and it was nice for my wife and I. The one biggest irritation is that there is only one outlet in the entire room. This makes it difficult to keep phones charged for taking pictures. That, in my opinion, is a huge fail. Granted the ship is older and was probably built before the ubiquity of portable devices, who knows. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. We also didn't have hot water in our shower for the first 2 days. I thought maybe at first it was because the ship wasn't moving or something. The second day, I got the water to lukewarm. I told my cabin steward about it and he said he would have a look. When we returned to the room I turned on the shower to check it. Still no hot water. I called guest services and they promptly sent a plumber to the room. After about 30 minutes he had the whole shower assembly replaced and the water got extremely hot. Yay! When we left the room the cabin steward asked about the water. I told him the plumber came and in his broken English (which is fine) tried to tell me "no, it was all good" and that I was doing something wrong, I think. If the plumber had to replace the unit and then it worked, I am guessing I wasn't doing anything wrong. It had been a few years since I had cruised previously and I was stunned that there is an extra fee for lobster and steak!?!? Is that a thing now? To be honest, the dining room food was, in a word, disappointing. Portions were super small and we generally left unsatisfied, almost like we needed to head to the buffet. The molten chocolate cake was very inconsistent. The first ones my table received contained hardly any cake; basically a ramekin of chocolate sauce. The next night is was nice and cakey with some nice melt on the inside. We finally figured out that in order to truly enjoy it you must order a side of vanilla ice cream as well. The buffet food was good...better than the dining room. No complaints there. I will give kudos for Guy's Burger Bar. Those are some fantastic burger concoctions. Because of the dance group we were scheduled for late dinner and there really wasn't that many entertainment options that didn't conflict with that time. In hindsight, we probably should have skipped the dining room and eaten at the buffet or burger bar. Read Less

For Mother's day, I took my family to a 3 day Cruise from Long Beach, CA. to Ensenda. there was a Huge line to check in and get your Room key. it took us about 2 hours to do that, then when we get to go to our room, the elevators are so slow, which took us another 15 minute to get to it.... There is only one Outlet in each room to use. which is really unconvinced. Cruise was sold out, for more then 2500 passengers on board, there where only 3 areas for breakfast, which had more then an hour wait, to get your omelet. the buffet lunch area was okay, but very limited food, for dinner we used the Carnival Restaurant, Staff where trying their best, but the space was so tight to move around. The food was very average. nothing extraordinary. for three days, my kids had french fries and pizza. Then we took the ATV tour in Ensenda, which was another dilemma, the company's name was HM Logistics. please don't book any thing with this people. They took us to the town, by the beach area to Get The ATV's, we've been waiting there for more then 30 minute to get to us, then after 10 minute of ride, their machines where broken, all 3 of them, it was waist of time and Money, we asked for manager, but there was no one to come forward, everyone pretending that they are "not understanding English". On the way coming out of Cruise, it took us 4 hours to go through custom and leave the boat, only two people working for 2500 guest... this was very disappointing. Read Less

I went on this cruise with a group of girlfriends for a fun weekend. We had a great time together. BUT..... The food was pretty bad, just cheap buffet type food, even the sit down dining was just the same food put on a fancier plate. There was no one checking to make sure people washed their hands before touching the buffet utensils. I'm glad i didn't get sick . Drinks from the bar were hard to get to because there weren't enough and always crowded with the partiers. There were barely any cocktail servers. The room was absolutely disgusting. We upgraded to a suite, and it was so tiny we could barely move. The lighting sucked so bad we couldn't use the mirror for our makeup. There was no exhaust fan in the tiny bathroom. Our friends were in an inside room on a lower level, for half the price and their room was nicer than ours. The balcony we paid extra for was unusable. It was so tiny we didn't fit on it, and there was a stairway right outside the balcony for people to walk to an upper level, so they could look right into our room!!! we had to have the drapes drawn the entire trip. What a waste of money for a balcony suite. If i wasn't stuck in the middle of the ocean i would have gotten off and stayed somewhere else. The public bathrooms were so gross i could not use them. The cruise lines do this thing where they charge a gratuity to your room, so no one tips directly, and that is clearly reflected in the enthusiasm and service of anyone working on the ship. Don't expect them to hustle your request or even care. I got an occasional smile from some of the workers, but for the most part they looked tired and beaten down. this was my first and last cruise on Carnival. Its might be a good cruise if you are young and just want to party and drink the whole time with all your friends. Read Less

We didn't choose this ship, is was the last part of a 4 centre US holiday. We knew it was an American ship, which is all about ' You WILL have fun' but as it was only 4 days and we had a Junior Suite, we thought we could just sit on the balcony and take it easy. How wrong we were. Our cabin was on Deck 11, the balcony was so small you couldn't swing a cat on it - it was less than 3 foot deep!! It overlooked the deck below, not the sea, and we were overlooked by the cabin next door. The cabin was directly under the gym and at 10.15 pm on the first night we could hear the non stop pounding of the treadmills in the gym. Guest Services were very apologetic and said the gym should have closed at 10 pm and they would send somebody up there. At 10.30 pm the noise hadn't stopped so we complained again. The noise of the treadmills stopped but we could still hear people up there until gone 11 pm. At 6.20 am the following morning we were woken up by (yes, you've guessed) the treadmills again. After complaining again, the noise stopped for approx. 45 minutes then resumed. Guest Services agreed to move us but had no spare cabins of the same grade. We weren't bothered so we moved to an outside view cabin on Deck 5 and accepted a 400 dollar refund. We can't fault the staff, they did everything in their power to help but we really can't understand why any cruise company would put a gym directly above cabins then have ridiculous opening hours - 6 am - 10 pm. The safety drill on the first day was ludicrous. Our muster station was out on the pool deck and we stood there for over 40 minutes in the sun while we waited for each muster station to complete their procedure. In 20 years of cruising we've never been subjected to such a poorly organised drill. Children and elderly people were suffering with the heat and there was no shade. Crazy. We found the décor tacky and depressing, especially in the buffet - big purple tubes from the floor up to and across the entire ceiling??? It was enough to put us off eating in there. The Mardi Gras restaurant wasn't much better. Despite the dress code emphatically stating that no sleeveless vests were to be worn, it was obviously ignored by other guests (mainly Americans). There was loud music blaring out from every public room, the only semi peaceful place was the Library but that wasn't a particularly inviting place to sit. We spent one and a half days cruising before we docked at Catalina Island which I believe is only 20 miles off the main coast? We couldn't wait to get off the ship and if we could have, we would have made our own way back to LA for our flight home from there. We know this is a 'fun' ship but it's definitely put me off booking any Carnival cruise in the future. Read Less

HI. Let me start by saying that this is our 5th cruise and all of them so far has been on budget ships, so i'm not expecting luxury for the prices we pay. This is a way to bring the kids on a budget and we have been doing this for the past 5 years.Well this is the worst ship ive been on. i'll name a few of the pros too. Embarkation was very good and fast and Patricia was very nice ( I try to remember names). The ship is an older ship but well kept, we choose a late embarkation time because was our first time in california and we spent the whole morning sight seeing. As soon as we arrived our room was already done and a very bad smell was coming from the toilet. My mothers cabin was the same. We didnt pay too much attention and we went to the Lido to have a late lunch. I took my mother on the norwegian last year and she was surprised on how different the food tasted. although i think carnival has more option food wise, i didnt like anything that day, so i had a slice of pizza which was not too bad and because of the time difference we were pretty tired and didnt go to the dining room. The next day we were in catalina, the weather was bad, but this is not carnivals fault, we will just wont travel ever again on winter break, but the island was very cute, had a cape cod feel, we rented a golf cart and had amazing views of the mountains. when we arrived back on the ship, the dining room was closed and was gonna reopen at 6 but we were starving. only the burger place by the pool was open and we all ate that and everybody felt sick on how greasy those things were. my mother once again was complaining that the norwegian didnt close the buffets, and blah blah blah, but if i remember correctly i think she was right. We try to get a few drinks but the mix for most of them had an after taste, yack... we didnt even spent so much money on drinks this time, but didnt enjoy either. that same night we decide to try the dining room and oh Lord. One thing that we most enjoy on our family cruises is the time we spend with the famiy at dinner but this time the food was really awful, nobody ate. The waitress picked up my mothers soup before she was finished, seriously she had her spoon in the air, and never came back with the dessert menu. We got tired of waiting and left without dessert. The entertainment which is my favorite thing on Carnival ships was so mediocre. I remember having other cruises that the director is so great, but on this one She was just ok, actually we love the punchline comedy but beside that every single thing was pretty boring. We loved ensenada. Our cabin steward was awesome. Now for the day at sea is when things got pretty ugly. We woke up in the morning to a very windy temp and very choppy waters, by 10am the ship was rocking like i never seen before. I went to the guest service and complained to the lady and she said that was nothing they could do because was the weather, and i remember had sailing with ROyal Caribbean and had the captain announcing that they were looking for calmer waters, but this captain was going full speed. I heard a gentlemen complain that his wife was getting sick and arguing that we were so close to long beach, so why the captain was speeding up in that kind of weather, so thats when my mother started to get sick as well, we took her to the cabin and before we could get in to our rooms, someone vomited on the stairway. they closed that part and someone vomited by the elevator. I dont know how many people got sick that day, but i saw at least 4. By 3 o'clock we heard an announcement that the captain was going back to catalina to take shelter from the wind, so i ask you why so late? so my trip was a nightmare partly because of the weather, i will never travel on winter break again, there was too cold for swimming and nothing to do on that cruise, the food and drinks was worst then all the other ships i've been to. The inspiration inspired me not to cruise again, or at least for a long long time. Read Less

I would love to wright a great review because their was some really good points, however Carnivals poor customer support to the issue my son and I had was very bad so BAD REVIEW!! First if you travel you can come in contact with these nasty critters. I make a practice to check the bed and furniture and quarantine all travel items when going home or to friends. I did check the mattress and no obvious problems however without bed bug covers you can not be assured!! When we came back in the evening their was small blood fairly fresh splats on the bedding. I checked the mattress not inside the sheets!!! The main person who managed the cabins was excellent and brought someone to check and changed the bedding. I was told the results of their check was negative and I did not see anything?? I noted in two days I had three bites and my son one (bits are three in a row and can look like mosquito bites). As I mentioned this to staff, I waited to have a friend at home who can identify the difference check when we came back before making a formal report to the Carnival. Yes, sure enough bed bug bites. I am glad spent a lot of time ensuring my items were quarantined and treated (25 min in a super hot dryer works and suitcase enclosed in a sealed non torn bag). No concerns at my friends or my home at this time (bed bug cups for under the post of your bed is the best that I have heard of to monitor if the pests hang onto you when you come home!!) Now bed bugs are a reality of travel or even sitting on a bus or movie, however how Carnival handled my complaint was not!!! I was told when I called the customer support line that no follow up call regarding my concerns would occur and this was stated twice!! so no miscommunication. Carnival bad form!! Carnival administrative staff that manages reservations and tabs is also concerning, mainly one who could not read the bill and kept making false statements of what I owed and then after upsetting me would rudely correct her mistake!! We had one on the final night who was satisfactory... It is sad that the customer service department at Carnival is so bad... or despite the bed bugs I would have written a fairly Ok review. The staff especially the person who takes care of cabins were excellent. Even thought their was mostly over 18 activities and activities kids could participate in were not well spaced out, the staff that performed were excellent both on and off stage. Ya to you and all the staff with exception of the front desk/administrative person. Food was great at pool side and ok overall.. ya I was not cooking. We were looking forward to fresh fish and the fish we had each time was pretty not really fresh.. however remember I am not cooking so it was fine!! The hot tub and pool and slide were good and loved the mini golf. I like to make an honest review. CARNIVAL, all I asked was for a call back on a pretty serious situation. please note value for money is that the stress from the bed bug issue and front staff/administrative staff made this a poor value and made the embarkation poor. The cabin except for the bed bugs was very good too!! If Carnival customer service would have been decent we would have consider booking again for a longer cruise. Again bed bugs can happen anywhere just do not bring them home and it is how the place deals with them and you!! I could not have been fairer. P.s I will spread the word as far as I can now.. In the middle of the night on our second night out, the bathroom drain began to back up and filled the room with sewage water. Four cabins on Riviera deck aft flooded. The smell was horrendous. A call to customer service had plumbers down to work on the drains A man from guest services also arrived to find us new rooms. So after about a half hour of waiting around in the hall (the adults from the cabins) they found us new cabins. (So much for the story that they are fully booked and you can't change a cabin once you board.) In two of the rooms, there were children asleep in the beds. They had to be carried out by family in order to avoid walking in the flooded rooms. One of the children was my grandson, and I was able to get him into another family member's room nearby (which did not flood.) Then we had to pack everything (walking around on the wet floor) ourselves and move to another cabin. This was at 2:00 in the morning. It was a nightmare, and Carnival gave us a measly $54 for our trouble. The new cabin was between two rooms full of unsupervised teenagers who made noise all night. There was a large group of teenagers on the ship, some organized group, and I never saw any of them with adult supervision. The noises from the girls' rooms on either side of us with their boy visitors made it abundantly clear no adult was monitoring what was going on. The group was all over the ship, rudely shouting and taking up most of the seating areas. No adult was ever with them. I would estimate there were about five dozen of these children running loose. Customer service was bad. No one ever answered the phone at the number to make reservations for the Suess breakfast, and on the third day, I went to the front desk where they made the reservation for me by email. For some reason, my card was refused on the second day, and I had to go give them another credit card. In all, I made about five visits to the front desk, and I got service, but not much in the way of apology or smile (with the exception of a supervisor named Dorothy who gave me the token $54.) A girl working at the muster station putting bracelets on kids (for safety reasons) does not like her job. She was short and just this side of rude to my grandsons, and to me when I asked a question about the bracelets. I wish I had caught her name. She was blonde, wore glasses, and apparently worked in the youth center. She needs a new job. The wait staff in dining was uneven (we had "Your Time") but most were very friendly and efficient. The bar staff around the ship was always good. The food on the trip was mostly good. The Guy's burger was delicious. The buffet sandwiches were also very good. The American Table concept isn't my favorite, but I found something I liked each night, as did my grandsons. They loved the ice cream in the buffet. The youth program was fine, not outstanding as we have experienced on other lines, but the kids enjoyed playing the games. They did very little, however, in the way of arts and crafts. Outside of the kids' facilities, the boys had lots of fun at the water slide and playing mini golf. We took the kids to the Suess events, which they enjoyed, but we didn't see any other entertainment. Most of the time, we payed in the Casino (whose staff is a notch above the rest of the ship in terms of helpfulness and smiles.) We did not go on any ship-sponsored excursions since we have been to the ports of call before. You get what you pay for, I am told. This cruise was the only thing available at the time we had to go somewhere, so the fact that it was cheaper than our usual cruises (not on this line) made it somewhat more attractive. It turned out to be pretty bad, and I won't be on Carnival again any time soon if I can at all avoid it. Read Less

This was our second time sailing with Carnival Cruise line. The first time we took Carnival Miracle and we really enjoyed it. This time on the Inspiration we were a bit disappointed. The ship is much smaller and walls in the rooms are paper-thin. We even brought a white noise machine and it could not cover the noise from the hallway. Our room was at the back of the ship on the Empress deck and I feel really sorry for those people who stay in the middle of the ship because of all the partying and loud speakers at the atrium. The house-keeping service was great. The restaurant food was also not bad. The only thing that was disappointing was the tea time. It started at 3pm, and we arrived at 3:10. The server placed us at the back along with those who came late. We were only offered smoked salmon and cucumber sandwiches. The same items came back twice. When we asked if there is anything else (sweets and pastries), the server told us no. But we saw some people eating them at the front of the restaurant! We sat there waiting and waiting and the only thing that came was the sandwiches. By 3:30 they expected us to leave and no more items were offered. It was the lamest "high tea" ever! Should have just gone to the buffet instead wasting our time at the so called tea time. The entertainment was not bad. Very similar shows and games as the other Carnival ships. If you are thinking of sailing with Carnival Inspiration, be prepared that the ship is old, the decor are dated, and the walls are thin. But the service was alright and I guess for the price you pay you can't ask for much. Read Less

Took this 3 day cruise as part of a large group leaving from Long Beach down to Ensenda, Mexico and Back. This was our first time on Carnival having previously sailed on Princess and Disney. By far this was the poorest excuse of a cruise one could imagine. Stood in line in the cold waiting to check in for an hour, then people coming late to check in were ushered inside and allowed to board while we were still in line. Nothing special about these folks other than being late. Whats up with that. Got n-on board the ship Riviera Deck outside cabin, Quite small and décor reminded us of Walmart ala Circus Circus, looked like someone threw up color on the carpet and walls, no worries not planning on spending any time in there anyway. Acquainted ourselves with the ship and went to the 6:00 dinner in the assigned dining room. Waited for 30 minutes at table with other guests before we could order, then took another hour to get food. Horrible waiting times as they were clearing other tables before we got our food which sad to say was pathetic, kind of what I would have expected in prison, poor quality and mushy. Never went back! Ship was freezing, there is no heat, so even though it was January and a bit cool there was no way to warm up anywhere on the ship, was told since it is a summer ship only A\C is available so turn off the vent in your room to let it warm back up to 60 degrees. Proble is on the Riviera Deck you sit right above the food lockers, butcher shops garbage dumps etc so if you don't let the air circulate you get horrible smells so either freeze or puke, we chose freezing. Crowd for this ship would have been typical people of Walmart, loud, obnoxious, drunk, no manners or class. Also everywhere you turned, someone trying to take your picture, sell you some cheap jewelry or drain your wallet with other lame merchandise. Second day decided to let the wife do the spa treatments, although over-priced they did a great job and the staff was friendly, professional and accommodating. Kudos to them, this was a solid win. Dinner that night was at the buffet which again was marginal but better than the dining room and off to the musical shows, late night comedy and casino. Musicals were fair, signers were off key, but probably due to the fact that they have ear pieces and can't hear what is going on around them, Comedians were not very good, but I think comedy in general has gone from trying to be funny to trying to shock people so that being said they were just doing what everyone else does, but doesn't mean they are funny. Go to bed Freezing, but sleep in clothes to stay warm. Day at sea is nice spent time on decks too cold to do much else but nice day at sea. Spent time at Casino until smoke was so bad you couldn't see the top of the craps table so left and tried to find something else to do, not much to do during the day. Afternoon was spent in business meetings which was a reprieve from the chaos. Also took Behind the scenes tour of Ship. I would highly recommend this, you have no idea what goes on to keep the ship running but that being said, I get why they have poor food onboard, you can't personally prepare individual meals for that many guests, I like princess and Disney as you could choose to go to a nice restaurant and pay for a nice meal, no such luck on Carnival. Evening was spent in Casino, and early family friendly comedy show which was actually better as the shock factor mentioned earlier was not present. And finally here is where it goes downhill. Ship is scheduled to dry dock for a few weeks so staff is more concerned with preparing to get us all off and on to dry dock so.... They plan to dock at 2:30 in the morning so you can plan on being awake for that loud process, ok, that is part of the cruise, but then they immediately start offloading the ship so loud noise all night now way to sleep during the racket so finally got up at 7:00 having a restful 2 hours of sleep due to these inconsiderate folks and take the early disembark to get away from that floating hell. I will give a shout out to our Steward Kevin who was very accommodating and sympathetic to everyone and overall the staff on the ship were mostly friendly and considerate. But.... That being said, I would rate this cruise a solid 1 out of 5 and will never ever set foot on any of their ships again! Read Less
