Overall, we had a good time, but I'm not sure I would do it again anytime soon. Here are some thoughts: => Boarding was quick and easy, even though we were early (12 noon arrived for a 1pm reservation) => The crew was friendly, every time. => Meals were decent, but not great. The 'Chef’s Table' is seriously overrated, and we would not do it again. Our chef leader (Anthony) was pompous and not fun, which made the whole experience a lot less fun. the food was great, if ‘over processed’ foodie fancy stuff. => This is definitely a party boat, that draws a middle class crowd, that sometimes gets drunken and messy. The good side of this is that it's a much younger crowd and only a little bit geriatric. If you want well behaved, take one of those nice boats with the old folks. => We did not do any of their excursions and didn’t need to. Carts in Avalon were fun and easy, and the botanical garden was great. I did a hike on my own in Encenada, which was fun. => The breakfasts at the Mardi Gras dining hall were much better than the buffet. => What's up with the coffee?! Embarrassingly weak. Pathetic. => The 'Deep Blue Soul' band was quite good! Their base player is AMAZING! => The shows were solid, if not stellar. => Standing in line is no fun, but it really wasn’t that bad most of the time. => We each brought a bottle of wine on board, and were not hassled at all. We are not new to cruising we have been on over 50 cruises. Cruising on the Inspiration 3 times. It had been over 5 years since we sailed on this ship. We drove to the port in LA to embark on a relatives 70th birthday party. We live about 90 miles from the port so it was a easy drive. We arrived at the port around 10AM. We were able to check in at the Platinum line. You are able to sit in the lounge and then be the first group escorted on the boat we boarded by 1:15 am. Ship: The ship is old but it's a 4 day party cruise and served its purpose. After going on the RCL Allure of the Seas and the NCL Bliss it looks really outdated. Dining: We had always loved the food on Carnival however, the quality was just not there as in years past. Especially in the dining room. No tablecloths, it looked more like the local coffee shop. They did bring out the tablecloths on the dress up night. We had fixed dining and our waiters were fantastic. They went above and beyond. Service: Was great no problems. We made our own excursions and disembarkation was quick and easy. We walked off the ship. Read Less

A 40th Birthday Celebration with nearly 20 friends was fun, but could've been a better experience. To be fair, this was my very first cruise, so I have no other cruise ships to compare it to, but I do have a lot of experience traveling as I work in the travel industry. Also, I set my expectation fairly low, and it was about accurate. The level that our cabin was located on, Floor 6, Upper Deck, smelled like raw sewage for the last 2 full days and had industrial equipment in the hallways, so I was not sure if something happened or if it is just a regular issue with that ship. FOOD The majority of the hot food was barely served warm, and the broccoli on my main entree plate in the fine dining room was still frozen. There was no sauce on my plate, so I just asked for a side of ranch dressing to add flavor. The baked potato was also cold in the middle. DRINKS The beer selection was fairly varied, in that they had a lager, an IPA, and even a gluten free beer, however, not a lot of craft beer options and the only draft beer I saw was the self serve Miller Lite in the buffet area. The higher end selection of liquor that was included in the adult drink package was great, but when I tried to order an Aperol Spritz, I had an issue with several bartenders, who gave me attitude because they were not allowed to mix a champagne cocktail, so one refused to even make the drink, and another would only give me a glass of champagne first, then wait 5 minutes to charge my drink card for a shot of Aperol on the side and a glass of ice, (there is a waiting period between the number of drinks a guest is allowed to consume in a certain time period). So, I then got charged for 2 drinks, and had to make the drink myself which was ridiculous! Also, it should be noted that this was my first drink of the day, so I was completely sober. ENTERTAINMENT The comedian was hilarious!! The dancers were great! I wish they had a movie theatre or better wifi. I bought the wifi package before I embarked but it was not working so well, so I cancelled it and just used the Carnival App to connect with friends. I made the mistake of staying on the ship when we arrived in Mexico, and there were very limited options of things to do for the day on the ship. The weather was super cold (50's) and really windy, so laying by the pool or going down the water slides was not really an option. The casino was closed, as were the shops and theatre's and even the majority of bars & restaurants were closed until the late afternoon. SAFETY The safety demo that was required, was completely pointless. They made us wait a really long time to even enter the theatre and then all they showed us was how to put on a life vest and kept us in there for far too long to be shown even that. Overall, I think I would go on another cruise line to be able to compare it, but I would never go on another Carnival Cruise again. Not my cup of tea. If you value food, aesthetics, and a higher caliber of service, pay a few dollars more and choose another cruise line. Read Less

Let me start off by saying this is well worth $350 per person. I have been on this cruise a few times and I was able to see the improvements Carnival has made to this ship. In fact, I have been on brand new ships like the Breeze that were not as clean as this ship. Ancient? YES! Dirty? No. We arrived at 10:30am and we were on the boat by 11:10am (we are Platinum guests). Our room was ready right at 1:30pm and our bags were in our room by 4:00. VERY ORGANIZED embarkation. I saw our room stewardess once in 4 days but he did a good job, just wasn’t warm and fuzzy which is fine with us. Now to the dining room. I would give it a “C-“ at best. Most of the food was bland, not very warm and took forever. Sorry but you get what you pay for. I knew it wasn’t going to be elaborate, fine dining so I wasn’t all that surprised. Our served was just ok but rarely checked in on us. On the other hand, we loved the room service option, pizza, Guys Burgers and Blue Iguanas. The boat stopped in Ensenada overnight because of the rough seas. We are gamblers so we were obviously sad to see the casino close but still had a blast. Both comedy shows were absolutely amazing, the Alchemy bar was some of the best drinks I’ve ever had and we enjoyed being losers at Bingo. I loved the dealers and bartenders at the casino. They were extremely friendly and almost all of the employees were talking about how much they loved this ship in particular because of the people. I highly recommend the drink package for a 3-4 day cruise. I would say I had 9-10 drinks a day on average (you can have 15) and that saved me soooo much money. If you are a beer drinker, it might not be the best package at $60 a day after tip. I also steer away from drink packages on 7 day cruises since you are off the boat for half of the trip. Overall, if you go into this trip knowing it is cheaper than a weekend in Vegas, you will be happy. Don’t listen to the complainers. Read Less

I chose this cruise because of the low cost (ha! you get what you pay for!) and the allure of a *fun* experience. The first disappointment was with the room's ventilation system. Freezing cold! To moderate the air flow you had to REACH up to a knob above one of the beds. This was pretty high up...I don't know how a person who is vertically challenged would manage it (I am 5'8"}. There was a horrible odor in the room as well...like a Sulphur smell which made it hard to relax. Turning the system all the way "off" made the room become stuffy since there was then no circulation. I could not breathe at night and woke up puffy eyed and stuffed up. Food: Bad. Very bad. The main dining room, the Mardi Gras, had beautiful menus with descriptions that did not match the actual food being served. A shrimp cocktail arrived on a plate. Not around the rim of a glass. Shrimp were small and flaccid. My Mahi Mahi was overcooked. The so-called grilled chicken breast looked like a Tyson frozen breast with grill marks (although it was moist). Baked potatoes were overcooked and flavorless. I could go on and on. Very disappointing. The food on the Lido deck, for lunch, was just a tad better. The hamburger joint was good. The desserts were good some days, just ok the others. Self serve ice cream station was good. The chocolate chip cookies tasted homemade and were stellar. There was "tea time" on Valentine's Day which was a joke. The tea offerings: Lipton and Green tea. That was it. Unless you wanted to pay out of pocket for herbal. Outrageous. Spa: Clean and well appointed with shiowers, sauna and steam. I enjoyed both the steam and sauna. Treated myself to a pedicure and was hustled to buy every product she used on my feet!!! Not a relaxing experience at all. Weather: Not the ship's fault, but it was terrible. Rained almost every day including the port stop in Ensenada. Not happiness. Could not sunbathe on deck or read. There were a couple of really bad days with the waves in the ocean really rocking and swaying the ship. In the cabin, in the bed, it felt like someone was shaking and tilting the bed frame! Scary. Adult Only deck: The "Serenity Deck" was for adults only. Small but ok. The lounge chairs were plentiful but did not position in a "straight sitting up" position. The straight back chairs were in the back, away from the great views of the water. There was a waiter that came around to take drink orders. Elevators: Very hard to navigate and figure out "what" was "where" and the best way to get there. Cleanliness of ship: Very clean. Carpets, elevators, glass panes in doors. This was impressive. Entertainment: I don't gamble so can't comment on the casions. I attended a couple of comedian shows that were unprofessional and crudely funny, making fun of audience members instead of relying on their own material. Karaoke, however, was entertaining! Drinks: After the tax and gratuity were (automatically) added, all drinks were $11+. I had brought my own Diet Coke onboard so saved that way. I bought the 12-pack bottled water package and that actually lasted for the 5 days for 2 people. Library: Didn't get a chance to really enjoy this room. The times I wanted to go were after dinner (7) and it was being used for the "Chef's Table" sitting. Can't they find somewhere else for this? Staff: Very accommodating and friendly and concerned about any problem brought to them. I complained at just about every meal and every effort was made to satisfy me. Unfortunately, I still wasn't satisfied but at least they tried with a smile. Running into staff in the hallways and asking for directions was not a problem. Everyone was very nice and helpful. Embarking and disembarking: Very organized and fluid. No problems, there. That's about all I can think of right now. I think this was not the ship for me. I like a little more "high end" dining experience and a higher caliber of entertainment. Read Less

This was my first cruise and I was treated like a king. I am from Las Vegas and I see service and hospitality issues all the time. But, I have never had so many staff members treat me so well. And, I am a low profile person. I went on the cruise by myself and loved it. I didn't want to be a part of a group and so many people wanted me to join there party. I was fine and I only did about 10% of the events offered. But, I still did too many things to keep track of. I loved it so much. I have planned 2 charity cruises already and I just got off of the ship 2 weeks ago. I will be back next January, at the latest. And another cruise that I may be on is in July. You rock!!!! The food was wonderful. The customer service was top notch. The choices of activities was endless. Now that my trip is over, I wish I had taken more advantage of the excursions and activities. Thank You Roxelle and Nanagn and so many other staff members of the Carnival cruise line team. And, thank you to the entertainment staff at the Playlist productions "Studio VIP show". I was part of the show. YEAH!!!! Do you have my video??? In closing. The staff made my first time the best travel I have ever had. And that gives me new dreams and goals to attain on the next trips I plan with them. Read Less

It was fine for a quick getaway, and even though an older ship, there was a lot to like. However, the corporate cutbacks are really starting to show (especially to those of us who've been cruising Carnival for a while). We can remember actual free drinks for the Captain's toast, then a dollar off any drink, and now just a dollar off Bellinis. The cutbacks in dining rooms and staterooms mean lots of small changes (no pastries unless you ask, long waits for breakfast/brunch, pushing the once-a-day room service, etc.). The other main negative for us was the small number of hot tubs (4), especially since one was always out of service. The ones in the Serenity area were always packed and the Carnival workers just ignored the smoking that we saw frequently on the Serenity deck. The staff overall were friendly, if not consistent. For example, two of our dinner tablemates joined for the first time on the last night and were shocked how friendly and accommodating the dinner servers were since that hadn't been their experience at other meals. Our dinner wait staff were excellent, and the food was mostly good (a few clunker dishes, mostly due to being inadequately spiced). But overall, even on the Lido, the food was fine. There wasn't a lot to do on the ship, but with only one sea day, it was fine. The weather was perfect, which helped. One of the solo guitar players was a Janis Joplin-style performer, who we enjoyed, but the seating in the Atrium where she often performed was very limited and the casino area, also a main music venue, was often set up for photos and was very smoky. The cabin was old and showed it, but was still pretty big given our experience on older ships on other lines, The bed was super comfortable, but the shower was small and slow-draining. Overall, it was a good value for what we paid, and we had a nice, relaxing time. Read Less

My husband and I sailed on the Legend for our honeymoon and loved it! Being on the West Coast, our options were limited for another sailing, and having heard others complain about these 3 and 4 day "booze" cruises on an old ship, we weren't sure what to expect. But the price was amazing and we decided to give it a shot. We're very glad we did. First of all, the November dry dock on the Inspiration was noticeable. Rooms looked very updated (compared to some other reviews we've read before the dry dock). Bathrooms looked practically brand new. Food was good throughout the ship. Didn't love the menu every night, but we were generally pleased with the food in the MDR. Service was good enough, and we enjoyed not having to cook. We really went on this cruise to relax, so found it nice to have options for entertainment when needed, but also were content just sitting around reading or playing games. Enough to do for a 4 night cruise. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't very good, which is no fault of Carnival. But, I was very impressed that the captain managed to get us a few hours of sunshine. Our itinerary got moved around, and I was convinced there was no way we'd actually get to Catalina with the storm and the need for tendering, but because of the move, we had sun on our sea day, a few hours of dry on our Catalina day, and nearly a full day of sunshine in Ensenada (all while Los Angeles was getting drenched). Very pleased that they were able to do it. All in all, a great cruise. We wish it were longer. While I want to try a mega-ship, we were very pleased with the Inspiration. Read Less

This was our first cruise and a great family vacation all in one. Total 8 adults in our group with 4 cabins. Embarkation was fast and easy, we opted for the faster to the fun upgrade. Once on board we were a little lost, not sure how to charge drinks and just trying to figure out what was Aft and what was forward! Great lunch on the lido deck and a few yummy cocktails made us feel right at home before we even got to our rooms. Our rooms were small, but that was expected, the window size was a nice surprise to me..it was bigger than I had expected! Lots of storage space and a nice desk/vanity area. Only complaint on the room was the amount of electrical outlets, only one in the guest room area and one in the bathroom. Jovana was our steward and she was awesome! So friendly, room cleaned right on time everyday, always a smile on her face and how do they remember everyone's name!! Michelle at the Alchemy Bar kept us happy with tasty drinks every night prior to dinner, it quickly became one of our fav. spots, meeting there with family each night. Our dinner time was 6pm, dinners were always fantastic, almost always in part to our server Sharon! She was the happiest person everyday, truly enjoying her job. She knew us all by name, what our favorite drinks was and for a few of us she even knew what we would order! She helped us to celebrate not only Christmas, but a birthday and an anniversay! She sang and danced along with us making each night a night to remember. I had steak every night and found out the the demi chef Michael cooking my steaks was Sharon's husband! I loved learning that and hearing how Carnival really works with married staff and keeps them together where ever their contracts may take them! Really tells you something about a company when they care about their staff that much. It was reasons like this that this cruise is def. above average! My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful couples massage while on board, I misplaced their names but it was one of the best massages's I have had! Great service, comfortable, and so passionate about what they do! Again kudos to Carnival for keeping employee's happy! We enjoyed the comedian one night, a song and dance review, and love love loved the piano bar, Jeff was amazing and fun! Loved the karaoke bar, they could really use a notebook with songs available, enjoyed all the food, great room service for breakfast. We did early disembarkation and took our own bags, got off really early but missed out on all the long lines! Only cons would be lack of power outlets, really slow internet (so not worth the $$), smoking in the casino, several public area toilets were out of service, and the pools including the adult pool seemed too dirty to use. We have done this 3 day cruise 2x now. All in all, fun. Booze Cruise; though I don't partake. Lots to do...plenty to eat; buffets, dining hall. All of it, though mostly fresh, was not that good. Great dining staff, they were all friendly and fun and accommodating. Shows were fun. Casino staff was fun. Now for the not so fun. One outlet in bathroom and one in cabin. We asked and received a power strip. On this trip, the room cleaning service was not good. Trash from past guests and a dirty bathroom counter greeted us. They cleaned it right away and apologized...but then, saw not a little but a ton of mold in the bathroom. I know it's a ship in the water but this was unacceptable. Get some bleach and clean this! Which they did but, eeeeeeeeewwwww...not what I want to see on vacation and it's not healthy to be around. They didn't seem to care much this happened on the ship or after we called when we came back. They gave us minimal on board credit for a future cruise....I just don't see doing this cruise ever again. Again, we had fun, went to shows, gambled, ate, went to Ensenada, played bingo, art auction...etc but the gross cabin infringed on my experience.Uhhh, and that bed, oh man, I was glad to get home...Less towel Elephant, more hygiene.
