first time cruise - last time now this company. Welcome aboard - had to argue that we had pre-purchased a drinks package! Food was only ok - most days stale bread was delivered to the table. albeit the waiting staff were very pleasant and attentive. Spirits (drinks) watered down. Which i proved to the staff. The surcharges and additional fees are a total rip! Whilst I embrace a multicultural world and appreciate that English is not the native language of the Nightly MC - it would have been to understand what he was saying not having to second guess every other word. The evening activities are extremely limited and only one entertainment bar open - which (my opinion) allows children to run around the dance floor till the early hours - why? The casino, both time i visited - closed???? The cruise director - i really didn't need to hear ''i love you all'' every-time you spoke. When departing the ship we got hit with unexpected charge of nz$480.00 fees and charges we couldn't understand.... leaving the ship was similar to boarding, we felt ripped. Congrats Carnival you sure understand customer service - not! Read Less

Where should I Start? This was THE worst experience ever. The entertainment was excellent and thoroughly enjoyed, that is all that is good on this ship. The food throughout only catered for asian customers. Even the Western Restaurant was western food with asian flavours? asian spices, weird food pairing? we were served steak on a bed of noodles? unbelievable, plating combinations never before seen not to mention we were served stale bread every single evening. Drink orders took in excess of 30 mins every single time in every single venue, most drink orders would come back wrong. The staff are not across the english language therefore the entire cruise was very frustrating. We tried the coffee in every single cafe/restaurant/eatery, no-body on board could make a proper cup of coffee. We were in a group of 7 and we all purchased drinks and coffee vouchers on arrival to find we cannot have a cup of tea instead of a coffee as it was terrible. The staff refused us tea which is cheaper than a cup of coffee, therefore we did not use our vouchers. No customer service and no effort to make customers happy in any way. Staff smiled and greeted us constantly all through the ship but could not show any compassion or accommodate any reasonable request. We collectively will never recommend this cruise to anyone. This was chosen for its itinerary. This had the most convenient stops for our family reunion of 45. BUT DREAM DOES NOT CATER TO BIG GROUPS. 2 months before embarkation, we requested for dining reservations so we could dine together. Our travel agent forwarded the email sent by dream reservations that this could only be done upon embarkation. We showed this to reception manager Aston Tan who said THEY DO NOT DO THIS SERVICE. IT’S FIRST COME FIRST SERVE. Our family reunion did not turn out to be one. What a disappointment! So, if you’re cruising as a group, DON’T GO WITH THEM. They’ll make it so hard for you to be together. Food was bad. Meals included in the cruise fare can only be had at the Dream Western fine Dining Room, the Chinese fine Dining Room and the Lido Buffet. Meat was over cooked, tough. In the Chinese one, all entrees meant to share...all entrees meat and vegetables mix with sauce, the scallop was over cooked, so rubbery. Also, all serving staff were not trained to wait on tables. I can’t count anymore how many times their elbows were right on my face. Other restaurants were considered as specialty .. pay extra for these. Even popcorn and ice cream had to be paid for Read Less

We chose this cruise as a great opportunity to spend time with family and see NZ from the seas. It seemed like a great idea and that's what it remained - a great idea. The reality was awful and I would never take a cruise with this line again. I have cruised before on other lines and the Dream line is so sub par and average that I left the ship feeling relieved to be off it - not the anticipated way they wanted to have guests leaving! My real feeling on this is it's a great example of a company entering a market and clientele they know nothing about and simply not doing any research or homework. To be fair, I have specified which bits were average ( there was nothing outstanding) and which bits were simply awful. I am hoping the feedback helps others before committing to the steep costs and overpromising of the cruise line as well as help the company know what they should do better. Frankly, they did not seem open to feedback on the cruise so this could be hoping for too much! Cabins - outlined below Food - just awful with VERY limited choices or changes. Three main restaurants - the Lido buffet - average and like eating in a hospital cafeteria, The Dream dining room had average middle of the road food and the Pavillion - Chinese which was simple AWFUL the day we ate there with cold congealed food. A note as well: all patrons at dinner (including children and tots ) expected to wear long trousers. My son at 12 did not have long pants but we tried with his dress shorts and a collared shirt and shoes and were turned away so be warned! This limits your choice to the Lido only. Hours for food were also very limited as far as cruises go so you felt under pressure to get to the food areas in time to eat - a bummer on holiday! Snacks were the same every day and gross plus only available in one part of the boat. Bars only had peanuts as a snack and only when you asked which I thought was really poor form. Food was not replaced quickly and was mostly cold and often congealed. The swipe card system felt very dated and antiquated and the packages were expensive for what you got. Service was slow and I felt like we were always waiting for drinks, which arrived separately for our group on almost every occasion and they ran out of rose, shiraz and other options three days in. They needed to swipe your individual cards each time you did anything even if it was included in your package - I have never experienced this in modern times where wristbands are almost always used. It was frustrating and they had no wait staff on the pool deck circulating. I was also frustrated with obtaining the bottled water in my package - they tried to press tap water on me or bring me already opened water - I had to be really firm to get my water unopened. One highlight was the pizza / pasta bar. While this was not included in any of the food packages, the food was well cooked and not too expensive and the staff here were really awesome - Jorrie and Gede made our lives much better and the chef and the rest of the team were really accommodating. No burgers or other sandwiches really available except in the Dream dining room or the upstairs bar on the top deck which had to close a lot due to the weather so options were really reduced. A menu re think would be a GREAT idea. Kids and pool goers don't really want to do a buffet when they are outdoors. Activities: Very average and areas where everyone had to congregate for bands and shows were crowded without enough seating. The shows were weird times - 7.30 and 9.30 which meant you were rushing from dinner or it was just too late. Activities for youth / early teens was EXTREMELY limited to the arcade area and ,again ,not included in the package and cost $2-6 per game which meant they could blow through $50 quickly. No activities or hang outs for my tween and no mechanism for meeting any other kids through designated movies or activities aimed at their age groups Pool: tiny with only 1 for the whole boat - misleading as photos show 2 but only one is for general use - the other is limited to the Palace guests. Water was also freezing and more like an arctic plunge pool.Slide which should have been a hit with the kids was too slow and long queues. Not enough sun loungers and one row was right by the smoking area of the boat which was super unpleasant for us non smokers Technology: WiFi was fine thankfully or my tween would have been unpleasant! The Dream App which promised the ability to check your bill, see upcoming activities and book shore excursions simply didn't work at all for any part of the cruise so you had to line up manually to do any of the usual things you could do online. Bag check out was the evening before which made it tricky to know what to do with toiletries and PJs etc in the morning. There's probably more I could think of but that's enough I'm sure to give you an idea of what to expect (or not expect) from your cruise. My feeling is that this is a cruise that sets out to say it is one thing but actually is only interested in doing things their way and make as much money as possible without consideration for the guest experience. Every other cruise I have been on makes it easy for you to eat , drink, relax and meet new people - this is the total opposite and I will not be back. It was double what I paid for other cruises which were true all inclusive where you knew what you were up for before stepping on board. Read Less

We travelled on the 29th for the New Years cruise The food on this ship is just awful. We had to dine at the restaurants to get a decent feed. The tapenyaki bar cost us $179 for 2 people, which didn’t include drinks. Outrageous. Also Beware of the hidden costs in credit card charges & service fees. Not really much to do unless you liked to gamble. The pool was closed the whole time we were on the ship. The bands were really good at palm court so that’s where we hung out every night, there were no other bars on the ship. The only passengers that were happy were on their first time cruising, everyone else that had done others cruises were not impressed at all. Heard all their complaints wherever we went. Our cabin was nice, but we had the balcony, paid more of course. I would definitely not recommend this ship, glad it was only 7 days. Was very disappointing. Read Less

Wanted to do a family cruise for Christmas and it turned out the worst cruise ever taken We experienced bad weather down the West Coast, which one could expect, but what we did not expect was that the noisy cabin with drawers kept opening and had to be wedged closed with clothing, Family in next cabin had to put a pillow in the wardrobe to stop the door kept banging. The Lido cooked food was nearly always cold and slow to replenish empty trays, poor selection of cereals and fruit, No orange juice had to purchase with added 18% service charge, only weak watered down cordial. The Dream Dining Room given a piece of paper with a table number and had to find your own table. This resulted in being missed out one night, and second night only got the entre as the main had got missed. This cruise was not very conducive to children and the charges for playstation was excessive $10.00 an hour Lack of other entertainment like other cruises that we have been on. Nowhere to sit on the deck.. The time table was not satisfactory having getting to the sounds very early and also Napier before Seaworld or Mini Putt was open, as the time off was indicated by the shuttle ticket. The majority of the staff could not speak very good English making it hard to communicate The Theatre had very good shows, but the downside was that the seats had back notices stating for The Palace, in all other cruises anyone could sit anywhere not discriminated Have taken 13 cruises, sea and river all of which had finesse and attention to little extras, like the cabin turn down and being taken to your seat in the restaurant. Would not use this company again and certainly not recommend them Read Less

Cruise Auckland Auckland, Visiting Bay of Islands, Milford and Doubtful Sounds, Dunedin, Wellington, Napier, Auckland. 5 New Zealand Adults Xmas day in the Sounds was simply amazing couldn’t have had a better day we were blown away by the serene atmosphere. We had a pretty rough trip down the west coast but rest of the trip was reasonably calm. The visits to each town were great but short on time. With regards to the ship there were some good features but a lot of disappointing features. The boarding and disembarking processes were well managed in each town. We were not allowed to take any fruit or food on board. In Napier there was a food market with amazing fruit boxes and I noticed one person had brought one and had to throw it out...a bit odd as we were in NZ with NZ fruit. Most of the Sailing however is in International Waters? GST is charged on drinks if you are on shore but not if in International Waters, so buy the Drink Vouchers when when out at sea. On our first day the Safety Drill was very poorly done, communication over the speaker was was very difficult to hear and understand what was being said, there was a lot of other noise around and the crew did not seem to know what to do as they did not speak English. A lot of the passengers did not listen to the instructions being announced on the speakers and they kept talking making it difficult for others to hear. We received a notice the next day to say that because we did not attend the drill we had to do it again but we had attended? but we were happy to do it again and it was easier the second time as there were less passengers. Communication: When all loud speaker announcements were done in English the Non English passengers continued to talk and same when announcements in Chinese the English passengers talked. All announcements should have been done twice in each language to ensure we could understand and hear what was required. The announcements did not go into the cabins so we often did not know what was happening. Cabins: The whole ship was not fully renovated most of the work had been done in the Palace Suites, our cabin a seaview was comfortable although the toilets on our deck 8 were constantly out of action particularly in the morning. Cabin 8002 where our Daughter was, was too close to the front they experienced a lot thumping during the night especially when going down the West Coast, this was very disappointing particularly for a first experience on a cruise. We had to give them some sleeping tablets for each night to get some sleep. Cabins 8522 and 8526 we experienced constant vibration on the beds which was quite disturbing during the night. My Sister in 8526 was very sick (along with many other passengers) on the second night going down the west coast, there were no green apples openly available which is normal on a cruise we had to ask for one for her to eat and no sea sickness tablets to purchase only wrist bands. We were not allowed to take food out of the Lido to our cabins. Food: The Lido: Sugary orange cordial drinks was free, no free fruit juice for breakfast. Hot chocolate instead of tea or coffee was not free. The Cakes for morning and afternoon tea were always the same tiny sugary/gelatine/sponge mixes. Continental breakfast was very limited and never the same each day muesli only on one day. Barely any fresh fruit. Lots of cooked and fried food choices - Chinese, Thai, Curry. Xmas Dinner was done on the 24th the food was pretty basic, they did a Turkey and Ham but it was not cooked properly...disappointing. The Ham was very watery and fatty. There are only three free restaurants- Chinese was authentic Chinese and set menu. Lido was Buffet and lots of choice but food tasted like it had all been cooked in oil, limited veggies but some salads. Often we could not get in to dine as too many passengers were dining there so had to wait. The Dream Dining was a set menu each day and the meals were ok but very very small, the guys went up to the Lido to get more food. It was noisy in this restaurant as it’s in the back part of the ship near the propellers. Good options and reasonable cost if you wanted to pay for meals in the other restaurants but many of these places were in a noisy children’s game machine areas. The main front lounge area “Palm Court” was a nice area but there was constant activity on the stage, music, exercising, quizzes and the sound system was very loud with English being the second language of the announcers so having a quiet drink was near impossible. Ordering a drink often took a long time, often went up to the bar to order it rather than wait for service. The Library was in the same room so no quiet space to read or play games. A Casino was also on the other side of the Palm Court but never seemed to be used, we sat in there for some quiet time but got moved out. There was a total lack of indoor and outdoor spaces with quiet areas to relax or read a book not even a deck chair on the main promenade decks they were only available by the noisy pool areas. Where it could have been possible to have reading areas they were taken up by duty free shopping places. Three very large areas on the ship were dedicated to pokey machines and casino areas and were not very well occupied. Smoking areas were impossible to avoid which was disturbing at times. Staff were polite but many did not understand English well. Online check-in/Onboard App did not work. We did not get pre cruise information about their theme nights and this was very hard to find on their website. The Shows in The Zodiac Theatre were dramatically lit up with lazers but story line very strange, some good dancers. We walked out of one show and didn't attend them all. Musicians and music around the ship was limited and nothing out of the ordinary. Piano player was ok. So to sum up we would not choose this cruise line again, my sister has cruised with P&O in Australian and she says it was a completely different experience with lots of entertainment, food was all free at lots of restaurants and quiet spaces all over the ship. We think this itinerary and ship has been designed for the Asian market not for the 70% of Aussies and Kiwis who where on board this time. So a great experience to travel around NZ at Xmas time with the family and enjoy a quick look at the towns - not a lot of time in each town if you want to explore more, we did not pay for any excursions did our own thing. This was the worst cruise ever, having previously done 11 ocean and 2 river cruises Cabin small no fridge. The drawers would not stay closed had to wedged closed. The Lido very minimum selection cereals, no orange juice or iced water the cooked food was consistently cold and slow to refill items. The main restaurant not taken to your table, this caused us to be missed out. No attention to detail as our main got missed. Had to get two drinks as the wine waitress was to busy to come back. The charges for the playstation is excessive this ship is not very child friendly. The timetable needs amending to get to ports later and leave later ot increase the days to make this possible. Example getting into Napier 2 hours before things open. The theater had seats marked for The Palace made you feel like second class I would not recommend this company Read Less

I wanted to have my husband experience a cruise as my experience in Greece was so good. If we were Asian it may have been better as the staff seemed to spend more time helping them. I asked for a double as it was for our anniversary and we opened door to 2 single beds. The food was awful and small sevings. The breakfast choices were terrible and the service was non existent as we had to ask more than once for our drinks and they got the order wrong. They couldn't understand English and we had to repeat ourselves. I was glad it was only for 2 days. There were no instructions or information when we got on and the loud speakers for lifeboat training was incoherent. We we no giving information on what was on until the last day. We saw a special deal, fly, accommodation in Singapore, and 14 night cruise back to Sydney. Sounded ideal! Especially as the ship had been launched in April 2019, millions of dollars spent on refurbishment, and a maiden voyage. THE SHIP IS 20 YEARS OLD! Our excitement cooled off even before we left home. The company got my wife's date of birth wrong, the port of departure in Singapore was wrongly specified on our boarding pass which was printed the day of departure from Sydney. When we arrived at the wrong port, we had difficulty getting a taxi to the right port, as none were available. We then had to queue for 45 minutes whilst they checked our boarding pass and Passport three times. This was all before we got on board. Once on board, our cabin was small and filthy. We complained and were given another one in the same category, after we sailed from Singapore when there was a 'no show.' Dinner in the main dining room was chaotic. Waiters had very limited English, and all the food came out at once, including dessert while still eating our appetiser! Only two white wines and one red available. The cost of the wine almost $50 which included the service charge. The carpet was grubby, rarely vacuumed. It was obvious they were catering to the Chinese market, with a majority of Chinese passengers on board, who pushed, shoved and shouted; behaviour quite unlike that of the many Chinese friends we have in Australia. We felt like getting off at the first port, which was Jakarta, Indonesia. The gratuities are compulsory. We prefer to give to our cabin steward and to waiters in the dining room and other people who have been kind to us. The speciality restaurants are very expensive. The only ones included in the fare are the main dining room, the Lido (buffet), and a Chinese restaurant. Tea and coffee making facilities in the cabin were great, except milk was $3 extra. Our main concern is safety! Many passengers did not attend the safety drill which is compulsory by Maritime Law. We can only imagine the stampede if there was an emergency as many passengers couldn't speak English. We love reading and the library consisted of two small cupboards...five books in English, the rest in Chinese!!! However, we must say that the stage shows were very good, but the three shows were then repeated ... Travel agents beware...don't recommend this Cruise Line.. Read Less

We choose this cruise due to the itinerary it stopped in Hong Kong, Vietnam and Singapore. The ship was on its way to Australia. This ship is not ready for the Australian market. Very focused on its Asia market. Service was terrible and slow. Very disorganised staff who didn’t know how to apologise. Had to go looking for service. Drinks took ages to be served. Took 3 hours to get on ship. Most of that in a corridor standing and given no explanation for delay. They checked our passports 4 times! Embankments and disembarkments were very slow and disorganised. In Hong Kong we took a shuttle from port and only had three quarters of an hour in a city mall. In Vietnam we had to wait 3 hours for us to get on a tender. So we cancelled next port visit which we were disappointed. Not enough chill out areas. Some of them got closed for private functions which left few options. Room bathroom had nasty smell. Reported 5 times nothing changed except the strength of the air freshener. Activities only focused on Chinese travellers. Entertainment for the 3 shows we saw was very good though. There was a contingent of Australians on board that almost everyone were moaning about the same things. Not a ship to recommend unless they can prepare better for the Australian market. We chose this ship because it had been revamped and visited destinations we hadn't visited before. Firstly we were herded into a tin roof waiting area and then pushed along by some of the most arrogant people I have ever met. There was no organization, no dividers to keep people in line , no water as we advanced on our two hour journey through the first shed into a larger area all the while in extreme heat. We were security checked at least 6 times in the line at different spots. There was total chaos. Once aboard we were offered a refreshing drink and warm welcome. The buffet was our first disappointment, it looked like recycled food. You had to be scanned by your cruise card to enter the buffet as was the case with every entry into the buffet or dining room for a meal. Elderly people forgot their cruise card often and had to return to their cabins to collect. Entertainment was excellent for the first 3 nights but after that they were repeated and the only new show was by a purchased ticket at a cost. The rooms were lovely very adequate for us, a very large window , seperate shower and toilet. Rooms were not usually cleaned in our area until around 2 pm when we would find our Dream News on our bed for that day. Food in the dining room was very nice, well presented , although carpet was filthy, service from Shanghai to Hong Kong terrible, after that it improved. Hardly any English speaking waiters or staff at help desk or pursers desk. There was only exercise classes held in the main forum of the ship right next to the help desk so impossible to hear or talk. The ports were certainly the worst part. we stopped at Hong Kong and due to some problems on the ship we were shuttled into an area at 5 pm and was told the last shuttle back was 5.45 pm or to catch a taxi back. Nha Trang was a highlight , the tour company was very well organized and English speaking. Ho Chi Minh City , we caught a shuttle bus to the port gate and then told we had to catch a taxi into Ho Chi Minh about an hour and half away. Had we got our News the previous day we could have caught a bus in, but all tours were extremely expensive. Nha Trang cost $137 each for the day.We then departed the ship in Singapore. Our passports were confiscated for the whole duration of the cruise , this is a very dangerous practice as if anyone should miss the ship due to unforseen circumstances they would have had no way of getting out the country let alone boarding a plane to meet the ship at the next port. This is my 28 th cruise and without a doubt my 1st and last with this cruise line. So many people wanted to cancel drink packages when they realized they were charged $90 a day and there was only two drink waiters we saw each evening for the entire dining room. Chinese people were given special treatment during dinner time, allowed to bring in alcohol in boxes, had food bought in from the speciality resturant . There was only one Australian wine and one NZ wine listed and the second night they did not have the Australian wine left. Service was so slow we walked out without breakfast after 50 minutes, and another night they forgot our meals altogether. One morning a breakfast was put in front of a passenger and after about 5 minutes when they realized it was the wrong meal , the waitress picked it up and then put it at another table, fortunately the lady had seen this and refused the meal. There was no bin near the toilet door so you could use a paper to open the door , nor sanitizer. a very large group had a meeting with the purser and demanded their gratuities refunded, when I asked I was told I booked through an agent so couldn' have it refunded. I had booked my cruise direct with the company. Read Less

We have school reunion in Hong Kong so total 110 of us took the 5 days Vietnam cruise. If you have taken other legit cruise ships such as Princess, Celebrity, you will be solely disappointed. This cruise line just catering to Mainland Chinese, who are interested in Gambling and sight seeing. Most of them do not know how a real cruis ship oprates. We were only allowed to go into the eating area once for the 3 meals, or you will get charged extra. But for the foods they serve, no one willl want to go there the 2nd time anyway. For lunch buffet, therre were warning signs about not get burned by the steam, and I amost got burned a few times when trying to get food from the pans which were heated underneath by the steam but leaking around the edges. For dinner, we needed to have 8 people, as they serveed 8 people on each table, and they served 6 Chinese dishes family style meaning everybody digged in with their chopsticks. So you did not want to have dinner with strangers.. The protions were unbelievably small. They had some afternnon snacks, the cookies were worst than the Dollar General store varieties. My friend carried 2 cookies that he did not finish and got stopped by the ship staff that no food could leave the dining area. Had one so so dance and singing show 1 night and the ship staff forced us to stand up, applaud, and applaud, and took up 40 minutes. The show was only 30 minutes. They had music singings right in the middle of casino, with people smoking away. Had 2 levels of Casinos, with VIP rooms where they made most of their money.. Chinese passengers running around in their pajamas. One man sitting next to me during the show, messaging his bard toes. The night before the disembarkment, I asked for the luggage tags. They all gave wrong answers. Finally I got the tags from the Service Desk. They wanted to save the luggage tags also. Took 2 hours to get on the ship for 1500 passengers. And 2 hours again to get off ship. Person in charge of disembarkment admitted his job was to manage a restaurant. And they were not cheap. We paid about US $100/day per person. experience. This cruise line should be rated -1 stars if poosible. Read Less
