They promise 'luxury' but the reality is very different. Last year the ship was refurbished and to be fair some areas of the ship are stunning.
The pros:
* Relatively good value
* The dining room areas are beautifully designed
* The cabins are well laid out
* Everywhere is kept spotless
The cons:
* We didn't get the cabin type we paid for - big let down
* The best meal was ...
Over a week, Sunday to Sunday, we went down and up the east coast of NZ. We were scheduled to circumnavigate NZ - going down the west coast after going past Cape Reinga, and then into Doubtful and Milford Sounds in Fiordland, but very big swells (reputedly 8 metres) forced a change of plans. EVERYONE was really disappointed, as the Fiordland part was a main attraction, but better to be safe. ...
We had high expectations as the ship is marketed as a 'luxury' refitted ship, but we didn't see much luxury about this ship.
Though the cabins were okay, the beds were rock hard, and I mean really uncomfortable. I barely slept for the whole seven nights.
Though many people complained about the bland food, we enjoyed one decent meal in the Chinese restaurant on the last night! The rest of ...
My first time cruising experience with Explorer Dream was overall an average to below average experience. Possibly a consequence of both my recent broken leg and bad weather or maybe it actually was a bad cruise.
All Crew staff were and are amazing.
Boat very rocky even in calmer weather not sure if that’s normal or if that’s normal for NZ waters ??
Shows in the Zodiac Theatre were ...
This was chosen for its itinerary. This had the most convenient stops for our family reunion of 45. BUT DREAM DOES NOT CATER TO BIG GROUPS. 2 months before embarkation, we requested for dining reservations so we could dine together. Our travel agent forwarded the email sent by dream reservations that this could only be done upon embarkation. We showed this to reception manager Aston Tan who said ...
While there are definitely good aspects to Explorer Dream, these are unfortunately outweighed by the indifferent or bad aspects.
The good aspects are:
- Great headline entertainment in the main theatre
- Friendly and energetic staff
- Spacious on-board health centre, including hair salon
The bad aspects:
- Onboard 18 per cent service fee for food and beverages came as a shock to ...
We chose this cruise as a great opportunity to spend time with family and see NZ from the seas. It seemed like a great idea and that's what it remained - a great idea. The reality was awful and I would never take a cruise with this line again. I have cruised before on other lines and the Dream line is so sub par and average that I left the ship feeling relieved to be off it - not the anticipated ...
We travelled on the 29th for the New Years cruise
The food on this ship is just awful. We had to dine at the restaurants to get a decent feed. The tapenyaki bar cost us $179 for 2 people, which didn’t include drinks. Outrageous.
Also Beware of the hidden costs in credit card charges & service fees.
Not really much to do unless you liked to gamble. The pool was closed the whole time we ...
Explorer Dream. Around New Zealand. Embark 29th December 2019. Disembark 05th January 2020
Firstly, this is certainly not a luxury boat, as was described to us from a Genting Cruise agent at the 2018 Cruise expo in NZ (and what prompted us to book), and it is unlikely that we'll want to travel with Genting again.
Cabins: Whilst of an adequate size, ours with a balcony that could seat 2 ...
After 3 years since having been on its inaugural sailing, I went with the family on a 2 night cruise out of Singapore to Bintan Island (Actually more of a gambling cruise then for the ports). Stayed in the Palace Suites once again and service has improved vastly. Upon embarkation, we were escorted from the cruise terminal through security all the way up to our cabin. This is was done by the event ...
