Cruising for me is a wonderful experience no matter what. I have traveled by cruise ship 30+ Times. This shop was by far the worst in terms of food quality and options. I would gladly pay more for better quality food. The drink package is deceptive. We upgraded 2 times and still had to pay for a bottle of water to take in shore. Their menu in the dining room was not what I expected. Very limited and mostly lie cost meals prepared poorly. When I complained about this I was given a complimentary dinner at one of the specialty restaurants. It was the worst lobster I have ever had! How in the world do you mess up a lobster?? Never got ice with my drunks even though I asked multiple times. I will never cruise with costa again. The excuse that they cater to a European crowd as unacceptable. I have had some amazing food at restaurants in the untied states. Read Less

Bought the cruise as an alternate Christmas gift. Looking forward to seeing the islands and just getting away. What a disappointment! Most of the staff had trouble with English. The cabins had daily changes of towels but the bedding was not changed for the whole 11 days. The tour office gave incorrect information and if you wanted to cancel a tour you were out of luck. That required a doctors note. Tours were not as advertised, well some were, some not. I was sick 5 out of 11 days due to the food...and not the only one. Table selection was not available and after waiting an hour to have seating changed were advised what we wanted Was not possible. We paid for the specialty restaurants, not so special. The menu on the specialty restaurants were similar to regular dining rooms on other cruise lines. The entertainment was marginal. A lot was from the crew...no headliners. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the low cost. Unfortunately, the old saying...you get what you pay for....is totally true. First, the pros: Embarqment and disembarqment was quick and smooth. Specialty restaurants were very good. A couple of the shows were very good. Ship and rooms were clean but showing some wear. Now the cons: English was definitely the 2nd or 3rd language for the staff of they spoke it at all. All announcements were in italian, german, french and ,if lucky, english. No room service after 3:30 so no bed turn down. No wash clothes were available in the rooms. You had to ask for them daily. Toilet failed and took 4 hours to get repaired. Food in the buffet was same every day and very bland Dining room food overall very poor with exception being pasta options. Customer service desk always had long lines, up to an hour. Then the rep either didn't speak English or very poorly. Overall, it seemed that most employees were just "going thru the motions" . It created a negative attitude that even filtered to the passengers. Overall it just wasn't a fun time and it was Christmas! Read Less

I am not a seasoned cruiser, rather this was my second cruise to almost the same ports. We chose this cruise because the dates lined up with our vacation timeline. My first cruise experience was with Carnival. This is where my husband and I set expectations for this cruise were based on that experience from a year ago. We were continuously disappointed to learn everything we thought would be standard were up charges. We expected to have free room services, as is standard on Carnival. We did not. It was not explained to us when booking this cruise either. Food We expected there to be some sort of free food options available at all times. There was not. In fact, we boarded the cruise ship late (9:00 p.m.) and was stunned to learn that there were no free food options for us ... and that we would either have to pay additional fees or go hungry until breakfast. It was myself, my husband and two teenage sons. Drinks On the Carnival cruise we did not pay for a drink package but were fine with drinking water, milk and tea at any given time. On this cruise, we paid for a drink package (we were told it was an all-inclusive drink package, but soon learned it was only during meals.) We paid an additional 480$ and was told we would need to pay an additional 600$ for the all-inclusive dink package. The drink package we had was only during lunch and dinner (lunch we were on excursions all but two days.) And dinner in the restaurant meant beer was not included either. Times One afternoon we returned late from an excursion and rushed to the deck to get lunch/snack/ something. They had cleared all but one bar and there was a rope blacking it and we were not allowed to grab anything before they cleared it … we were told we could go to the opposite end of the ship to grab a salad. The lovely food was right there … and instead we ate salad. Again, this would have been ok, except we had eaten a salad the last two days for lunch as it was the only thing open once we returned from our day trips. Dinner was four hours later. Staffing This would not have been a big deal, except the tea, milk and water machines that were supposed to be up and running 24 hours a day we're not. Instead, we consistently had to hunt down someone to fill the machine. A majority of the time we were told it was not their job. In fact, that was the standard statement from most of the crew when asking for help. My husband went to find the big screen gaming for my teenager and each person he talked to gave him the same statement, “that is not my job.” Customer Service Our TV in our room did not work half the time … which is frustrating, because this is where you were expected to check your ship balance and find activities. The TV in our sons’ room did not work either. Their toilet overflowed. I thought maybe it was them until my toilet overflowed. Then I had a lady from the ship chew me out for putting facial tissue in the toilet. When I told her I had not done such a thing she called me a liar and said he had found facial tissue. I could not believe she was calling me a liar. I know what I packed. Activities There were not enough deck chairs and activities for visitors while out to see … people circled like hawks looking for a place to sit down. The pool was tiny and did not allow enough room for kids and adults to hang out. The variety and timing of activities were also limited. Communications While on Carnival, we were able to communicate with each other through their free app. Additionally we were able to see daily schedules, and excursion times using the app. We were also able to see what time we needed to return to the ship via the app. These were all HUGE misses during this trip. Having had been on 10+ cruises before (Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian, MSC) I have to say that this cruise line is the worst when it comes to customer service. Travelers used to good customer service should not sail with Costa. We sailed as a family for New Years 2018, and while we had a good vacation overall, it certainly was not due to the staff aboard the Costa Deliziosa. It felt like not only were they understaffed at all times, every day; but the staff was also grumpy - felt like they were just there to get the job done and get their paycheck. While you can see the details of our experience below, overall, I would not want to sail Costa again, or would recommend it to any American friends, or anyone that expects decent customer service. So here we go with the detailed review: ~~~Let's start with some general good things I liked about the experience: + Boarding process was very quick (both on the first day, as well as when we got off/on at the various islands). + For international passengers, they do a good job at making the announcements in various languages (it's obnoxious as they get longgg, but good for those that speak something other than English or Italian) + Bags were delivered very promptly on both the first day, as well as the departure date. + While the variety of food wasn't doing it for us, the quality of the food was really good compared to other ships. + A lot of great live music throughout the ship every night / they have a lot of bars + Drinks package and upgrade to the middle tier package was worth it. Lots of drinking throughout the week. + Mobile app with free chatting (only available for iPhone) was very useful to find each other on the ship as well as to see the the daily planner. ~~~But the list of bad things outweighs the good one: - The temperature in the ship was borderline hot, especially in the gym. Couple of times I had to step outside to get some fresh air. - On port days, despite having odd port hours they did not adjust the schedule for the buffet. At one particular port there was a 20+ minute line to get... Salad, since it was the only available thing. - Rooms in the back of the ship vibrate a lot. One particulate night the vibration was so strong that when you sat on the toilet it felt like you were in a massage chair. Alternatively, you could also get a free shaking massage while laying in bed as the vibration is equally as strong there. - Calling room service or customer service was futile - you were placed in a permanent hold without anyone ever answering. After spending 20+ minutes one day, I discovered that the call is never answer. The trick? If placed on hold, hang up and try again until a human answers the phone. Why even have a hold system them? -- If you managed to get through the line for room service, you'll be playing a guessing game of whether the food will arrive or not. One particular night we placed an order that never arrived. I was too tired to call back and have them deliver it after waiting 45 minutes. - No ironing on board, which is standard in most cruise lines. We decided to send a couple of clothes to the dry cleaner to get them ironed. We requested same day delivery, and at 6PM nothing had arrived. I had to call to have someone go check and get them, and I was told that the clothes deliver only starts at 6PM (keep in mind, first sitting for dinner is 6PM). Seems like same day service is not viable in most cases. - Room is only serviced once a day - no turndown service, or change of towels in the afternoon. - The buffet: in general they had a very european selection of food which wasn't my favorite, but I knew what I was signing up for when going on an european cruise line. - Pool towels: They do not have a place where you can go exchange your towels. They apparently come around every evening knocking on your door and asking if you need fresh pool towels. Well..... We must have never been in the room around the time they came because we never got that option. Not only that, after I once called to get fresh pool towels, they were never delivered. - While they had an iPhone mobile all, they didn't have an Android equivalent. The iOS app, which we installed on the embarkation day, also decided that it needed an update midway through the cruise and kept bugging you about updating (hello? no wifi!) it every time you opened it. ~~~Special mention to the TERRIBLE evening dinning experience The first day was bad. We had three rooms under the same reservation, and they sat some of us together, and some of us in a different table.... After talking to the maître d' they fixed the issue on the second day. And things got worse... The second day was terrible. Our waiter was extremely rude*. He was just rushing to get our orders, rolling his eyes at my grandparents for taking long time to choose, and brought the wrong food (and tried to force us to eat it before fixing the issue). It was so ridiculous that I had to call the maître d' over to talk to him about his attitude. After this incident, on the third day things started to get better after being assigned a new waiter. Our waiter was ok when it came to his attitude, but the issues with the food continued. Between courses it would take a good 20-30 minutes before the next course arrived. Dinner usually lasted two and a half to three hours every night. Not only that, but in between courses the servers would not refill your water or wine unless you managed to flag them down. One night I didn't like my meal, so I sent it back and asked for another meal. The waiter continued to bring the rest of the meals, and brought my food after bringing my dessert.... *note that we later realized that the reason why service was so slow and the waiters were so bad is because they're understaffed. On most cruises you get a waiter and an assistant waiter. This cruise line only has one waiter per table which makes the entire process extremely slow. Read Less

Briefly; SAMSARA SUITE #11005 - the second largest cabin size on the ship (I believe) - ONE plug socket for guest use (oh and one behind the wall mounted TV) - Massive balcony with tub but horrible blue fluorescent lighting (stops junkies I guess) - Poorly designed bath screen needed a dressing robe cord to stop it banging all night - WiFi signal practically non-existent - Very noisy cabin stewards outside door from 7am - Very noisy "vacuum flushing" system every 10-15 mins from 7am (not toilet) INTENDITORE Drinks Package - massive choice of two wines available at bars (majority of which are closed until 7pm/8pm) - Heineken the only draft beer available (or their own draft from one bar open from 7pm) - No cordials such as lime, blackcurrant etc (maybe too expensive at 30p a litre wholesale) SERVICE LEVELS - bar/lounge service ranged from OK to extremely slow - I go out of my way to be polite to staff but it made little difference on this cruise BUFFET RESTAURANT - went once - not to be repeated - cold food, limited choice and no method in its layout (treasure hunt to make a meal) THE CLUB RESTAURANT - staff training = zero - maitre'd was their for his benefit not to ensure the guests had a great experience - rushed courses despite asking several times for it to be slowed down - plates removed while my wife was still eating - new cutlery put in place even while my wife was still eating - extremely (EXTREMELY) limited choice but what we did have was nice - please, no more mozzarella or pasta dishes (Italians cannot eat only this surely) - vegetables twice in 7 days (5 runner beans one day and a carrot on another) - screaming children running around restaurant (its supposed to be a dining experience) SHOWS / Venues - Italian and in Italian (90% of the time) - but I expected it so was ready I guess - very little variety of music around the bars and minimal seating in most - theatre layout really poor - estimate 20% of audience could actually see the whole stage ENTERTAINMENT (quizzes etc) - italian and in italian BILLING - overcharged 114E so queried at reception only to be told I had to go to the Spa to get it corrected. I had never set foot in there so why do they expect their guest to do all the chasing - overcharged again by the Spa - this time for 210E. I went there this time as I was closer to them than reception. The Manager simply told me "you really shouldn't worry about these things, they will get sorted" - perhaps if they didnt happen TWICE for somewhere I had never set foot in, I would have been a little more understanding. DEPARTURE - carry your own luggage as this helps you to get off the ship faster (you will thank me) SUMMARY We have now taken 41 cruises, 6 of which were on another Italian line MSC. Costa is by far the WORST cruising experience we have EVER had. The noisy, rude groups of Italians weren't the issue as they're on MSC too. Just about everything about Costa was the problem - poorly designed ship - minimal staff training and therefore mostly poor service - limited bar times and extremely bad choice of drinks in each - poor but expensive wifi - limited food choices in The Club Restaurant - billing issues TWICE Yes, Costa are a cheaper alternative - but they don't even seem to want their guests there. This was our 3rd with Costa (and 26th overall) and we had always had great experiences previously with Costa so did not expect anything different on this cruise. We were very disappointed overall. The ship overall was very nice. It was well maintained and decorated nicely for Christmas. Whilst the layout of the ship is not the greatest (you have to go up or down to get where you want to go sometimes) and the public toilets are not well signed, it is functional. Getting on/off the ship in ports was possibly the easiest ever. Debark we were off the ship collected our luggage and on the bus within 5 min of our appointed time. Now for a quick review on each area - Cabin - Despite many complaints it never got below ~22/23c - the only person who cared was our cabin steward. Food - MDR - Very inconsistent in quality/taste/variety/service. The first night dinner took just under 3 hours and on average we were 2+ hours with the first dish coming to the table approx 1hr after sitting down. One night I ordered from the kids menu to find something I would be happy with (I am a picky eater, but can normally find something I can eat). Also Breakfast was always a Scrum, even though I thought they did a great Ham and Cheese Omelette, I could not handle the craziness. Buffet - Very inconsistent in quality/taste/variety/opening. It was a treasure hunt to put an actual meal together. Teppanyaki - By far the worst we have ever been to. It was tasteless with some poor quality meats and the show was not good either. Burger Place - Decent but nothing to write home about. PIzza Place - Yes you have to pay for the Pizza - This was by far our best meal on board. Staff - Except for 3/4 people I found most staff to be rude/unfriendly. Now I don't expect a lot but common courtesy goes a long way. Bars - Overall quite limited. We ended up in the Beer bar on deck 5. Even at €2.50 a beer with our package was worth it. Also the service was top notch! We did speak to the Hospitality Desk about some of our concerns and the International host called me back 2 days later to discuss them. Offered Pizza or Crepes as an apology, I suggested an OBC to cover part of the teppanyaki and she said she would see what they could do. Here I am at home and I am still waiting to hear. I want to be very clear, I was not expecting any credit when I complained, I really just wanted a colder room. I did however think the Panettone left in the cabin on Christmas Eve was a nice touch. I could continue, but overall we are just disappointed after great experiences previously. Read Less

Not many English speakers anywhere the food is terrible everywhere buffet,.. Restaurant... Main dining... Just awful in all areas not only bad tasting but not many good choices... Mostly pasta... The chef on this ship should be FIRED! The ugly... Make sure you know what you're getting with the sink package... We called ahead and were told it was all included but when we got in the liquor was included and the mixer was not lol yes for real. The bartender and wait staff are so so.... Or dinner waiter was nice but I had one bartender argue with me about that I hadn't told him one of our drinks... The buffet is only open weird hours,. The pizza is not included in dinner buffet and when they close you ain't getting another morsel if food.. This cruise line sucks when you are used to Royal Caribbean or Norwegian or one of those... Many on the ship said they would not be back as I will not. If you're looking for a cheap floating hotel this cruise is for you. If you're looking for the standard cruise experience spend a couple hundred extra for the real experience this cruise line sucks... The food sucks... Embarkation onto the ship was unorganized and took over 90 minutes. We arrived in the middle of the day so the wait time was unnecessary. The internet packages are priced well but do NOT work as described. Was even charged twice for unused service. Customer Service said they would add more usage but would not credit account. I had two days left on the cruise and told them I was not using their service any more. I had them freeze the service to prevent any other charges. Found out later that a good potion of the cruisers were experiencing the same issue. Final bill DID show a credit. The food was bland. The specialty pizza was good. Not very much light and healthy food outside of deli meats. Bar attendants would walk around so we would ask for an alcoholic drink or specialty coffee drink. Their response was “this is self-serve.” ONE bar area on the whole ship went out of their was to serve you. The rest of the ship was not as service oriented. Alfredo, Catrick, Warren, Wilson, Jose and crew in the Grand Bar made all of their clients feel good. The shows were extremely under the European flair - opera and acrobatic. First word that come to mind is blah. Singers can sing but production is below basic. The other group of staff that MADE the cruise was the Activities team - Marena, Francesca, Cristano and rest. These guys went out of their way to visit with us when we met on the ship. They provided answers and assisted us any way possible. The housing staff was unseen. The cruise staff is unorganized. They are not punctual or ON time at all. We waited over 45 minutes to leave the ship for a 2 hour excursion. Port time was 5 hours. They can not guarantee a cruise to start on time nor return to the port area on time. Thus, one excursion we wanted to do in the destination port (Ft. Lauderdale) was nixed because they could not guarantee they would be back by the 3 p.m. deadline THEY set. Good thing we did not do the cruise on debarkation because we had to wait 1.5 hours to disembark. Costa said we could disembark starting at 6. Yeah, we did not start to disembark until 7:30 a.m. To recap, if you like unorganized, no set schedule (even though there is a printed schedule), self-serve drinks, no regular eating hours then this cruise is for you. Thank goodness for the Grand Bar bar service crew and the Activities crew for making the cruise tolerable. Read Less

We chose this cruise as it suited our dates and meeting up with friends from the other side of the world. Costa cruises have not understood what they are selling - it seems they think they provide a transport when they SHOULD provide an experience for their customers! * Very poor service - always long queues at the hospitality service, who where the only ones to answer any questions, even though they didn´t understand the language. Poor service. * Additional costs, which you didn´t know about. * Poor service at the cabins, we had bought a full drinking package which included minibars - but they didn´t fill it up or they filled it up with what they had on their carriage - meaning Sprite, Coke. No water. * Very poor foodquality at main dinner! And slow service - they didn´t know how to serve at a table. Unexperienced, untrained personel..... Very rude Head waiters! As I wrote before - I wonder if they know why they are there! For whom...... * they asked us to fill in 9-10 on their evaluation - because they had all these 900 personel working up to 12 hours a day, 5-11 months a year, without any days off - which they were bragging about. I should be embarrased to say that at all!!!! Maybe that is why they cannot fulfill their work - they are exhausted... Summary, bad service and bad organisation. It is so little needed for the customer to be satisfied. And they failed it totally!!! DO NOT BUY A CRUISE WITH THE COSTA FORTUNA! Read Less

Embarkation from Marina Bay Cruise Centre was a breeze. There was sufficient manpower to direct the guests. They took notice of guests with young children or aged guests. We took 15min to board since we brought along aged parents. HOWEVER, disembarkation at the same port at the end of the cruise was a nightmare because 2000 guests were leaving at the same time. Despite being assigned staggered disembarkation timings, it was one big pandemonium at the exit points. We were assigned the first group for disembarkation but the meeting point was already congested. So, we were sandwiched for an hour like in a subway peak hour carriage. Disembarkation at other ports were uneventful.I wished we were offered a cold drink or a cold towel though. All guests should note, the check-in luggage porters can only accomodate suitcase/trolley luggages. Sports utility bags, shopping bags, backpacks are out. I think guests who are travelling alone will appreciate the availability of single cabins, considerate dining arrangements of table for twos at the buffet corner, as well as in the restaurants. The water slide was closed. The gym was closed after second day. The pools were crowded. Sigh! Considering that the ship is plying around Southeast Asia which is humid, hot, and wet weather all roll into one, the absence of ice-cream parlours, water coolers and memories of seeing long queues of people filling their water bottles and milk bottles at the buffet stands were a sorry sight. One last caution. Pasta is freeflowing. Pizzas? You have to pay. I am sorry but I missed Costa Victoria. Read Less

I think over all entertainment was very very POOR. Not up to usual standards for a 3 week cruise. No big shows, no professional dance troupe. I expect more than 3rd rate entertainment, for 21 night cruise. Food was very nice but usually served a little on the cold side. Soup was hot in restaurant and we had a great choice but in buffet nothing was in servers to keep it hot. Always a very good choice, but don’t want to eat my meal with most of it luke warm. I’ve only cruises with Carnival and Royal Carribbean and this was my first Mediterranean cruise. I’m used to cruise ships having a huge variety of food available 24/7 all inclusive and tons of entertainment. The food on this ship is an absolute joke. Nothing but the same old pastries every single day for breakfast unless you want to sit in the dining room with extremely slow service. Terrible entertainment. Only a few channels in English in your cabin. The news and stock market. Hardly anyone speaks English, so you can’t make friends. We paid for an ocean view room, but there was a lifeboat in front of our window. There’s a fee to have your room cleaned everyday, per person in the room, even if your room has not been cleaned. They charge an arm and a leg for everything on Costa. The transportation to excursions are very poorly organized. Just don’t bother. Read Less

This was a group trip that I decided to go on. There weren’t many staff members who spoke English well enough and getting answers to many questions was challenging. Many of the European guests were very rude, often pushy and cutting lines during meal times at the buffet, ignoring dress codes and walking in with wet swimsuits and towels or robes to the buffet. There was not much of a variety of meals. Most of the meals consisted of an enormous amount of bread and pastries. Perhaps that is the European way but, we Americans definitely were not accustomed to the food preparations. Several of my companions and I (27 in total) had been on numerous cruises before so this was highly unusual that there wasn’t a larger variety of international food. Also the buffet closed at 830pm nightly so if you were hungry after hours be prepared to pay. It was my birthday week so I was hoping for a great time. Our waiter George in the dining room was often rude, once complaining to us that he wasn’t feeling well and was working longer than he should have been (8 months) and should have been allowed to go home. Really??!! Several times our food was being served so slowly and at lukewarm temperatures might I add, that it was interfering with the next seating and we were asked to leave before the meal was completed. This put a damper on our trip as we had great expectations based on previous cruises. I’m not saying that other cruise lines are without fault but I felt a little put off by the lack of hospitality. I felt a little racial bias when it came to bar service. We were passed over while we arrived at the bar waiting our turn while someone not like me was helped immediately upon arriving at the bar. We had to tell them that we were waiting first.. I will say that we did meet several very nice and interesting people on the cruise. But there is so much more to complain about but why bother. Needless to say I won’t be traveling on Costa cruise line again. Read Less

We chose the cruise for the destinations which we had not been to previously. The embarkation in Valencia was a fiasco and no assistance when entering the ship from Costa staff. Beautiful ship, we had a classic inside cabin which was fine. We did notice that the carpet wasn’t too clean but other than that okay. Went to buffet to get a bite to eat and drink!!! No way, it is only open for short periods of time. Luggage did not arrive in time for us to change for dinner so forced to go back to buffet when it had opened. Wish we had not as food was very unappetising and was the same repeated every day for the whole cruise. Breakfast was a case of a free for all... never any clean bowls or cutlery not to mention a clean table. We gave up some days and went ashore to eat. Dining room okay but not a lot of choice and very rude waiter. Had to pay extra if you wanted a pizza or burger, the two most inexpensive foods!!! Entertainment was just okay and the general service on the ship is poor. All the destinations were good, we did not use ships excursions as they are too expensive. Was very surprised to find that Costa have now made the service charge (tips) 10 euros each per day mandatory. When I questioned this at Reception I was told by a very officious man that I had signed for terms and conditions and so must pay them. I would not mind if the service was good, but it is not so 200 euros for bad service!!! This just cannot be right. We have cruised now for 15 years sometimes twice a year and never have had such a negative feeling about a cruise. Apart from the destinations and the ship is beautiful there was nothing else to praise. It is said that it is relatively easy to get new business but very hard to keep it. Costa don’t seem to realise this, they certainly lost us. Read Less

We choose this sailing because of the itinerary. We are experienced cruisers and have been on over 30 cruises. We had never tried Costa Lines but virtually have sailed with all other cruiselines including Norwegian, Holland America, Carnival, Royal, Princess etc.. We had thought how bad could Costa be? Firstly. when we boarded, our Passports were immediately confiscated When we questioned why we were told that this is common practice for cruiselines for non-Europeans guests. When we advised that it definitely was not common practice for our passports being taken away (as we had been on many other European cruises) Costa advised us that it was mandatory. They insisted on holding our passports in their safe until the end of the cruise. We went on a shore excursion from Savona to Monaco booked through Costa that required our passports. When we asked for them we were told that Costa was having trouble 'finding them,' The tour bus had to wait until they were finally found. There were less than 80 English speaking passengers out of 3,800 passengers on board. Very few of the staff spoke English. As a result almost all of our excursions that were booked with Costa were either cancelled the night before (by way of a note left in our cabin stating that there were not enough English speaking people) or we were forced to go on an excursion where the tour guide spoke either Italian, Spanish or German. We understood very little of the few words in broken English that were said so these excursions were a waste of money since we could not understand a word. When I complained politely to one tour guide her name was Fernanda, that I was sorry but I could not understand (I asked her if it was a Church where we were stopping) she told me in very broken English and in front on the whole group that I had a bad attitude. I honestly felt humiliated so kept quiet for the duration. Most shows were all in Italian or Spanish so the entertainment on board was impossible to enjoy or even understand. The food was not anything that we had ever experienced to on ANY cruiseline. You could not get a slice of Pizza unless you were willing to pay an extra 4.25 Euro per person. (Please see photo) Quite surprising on an Italian cruiseline. There was no coffee available anywhere on the ship from 11am until 4pm unless again you were willing to pay extra. (see photo). There were signs on every coffee machine saying 'Washing Mode' everyday from 11am-4pm. No coffee after dinner in the tdining room either. No ice cream the entire time without paying extra again. My husband ordered the Chicken Parmesan in the Main Formal Dining Room. (Please see picture.) no sauce was on it, the processed cheese was not melted. When we asked for some sauce he was told that was not available. Finally he asked for Ketchup as it was extremely dry and was served packaged Ketchup like one would get at McDonald's. Many of the staff including waiters were very rude and seemed frustrated that we only spoke English and they did not. We will never go on Costa again.. Read Less

The good points are cabin excellent and kept clean. Boarding was efficient and the terminal very clean. Most staff were hard working although if you're English speaking some didn't seem to understand unless basic requests at the table. Entertainment was good, especially the Tenor singer. Wasn't keen on the night the staff provided the entertainment, some were good others pretty mediocre, bit like BGT. The on board dance team were great, providing lessons as well. That we did enjoy. The bad points are: tips being compulsory and not being told upfront, probably in the small print which no-one reads, and not told on booking. Bottled water not included in the drink package, but tap water is ok. The food in the restaurant was poor. Some meals were just ok but mostly it was cold or tepid at best and I even suspect some was leftovers from the buffet, re invented. One particularly unappetising dish was the meat skewers. One piece of lamb or beef (couldn't tell), piece of a sausage and a piece of chicken, in bread crumbs and fried, served with a scoop of mash potato that was grey and lumpy. There was no sauce, so was very dry. We waited nearly half an hour for our starter one night also. Uninspiring desserts also, often something frozen. Better deserts in the buffet area. No gelato ice cream or pizza available unless you pay for it. I expected this at least on the menu as it's an Italian ship. They pick up and drop off at every port, meaning the muster drill is carried out every time and takes place in places where passengers are trying to enjoy themselves, like the Orlav Bar. We had to sit through it or move on. Lots of tannoy speeches in lots of languages, which one time interrupted the dancers who had to jog on the spot until it finished and then try to carry on. The quizzes were Italian based, e.g Italian cities and types of pasta, so unless you were Italian not much chance of winning. I know it's only fun but you like a chance at least. I used the spa and was given a dressing gown which I had to carry from there to my cabin each time, and if I didn't hand it in at the end of the cruise there would be a charge of 79 euros. Also for the pool towels left in our cabin. My husband used the gym, but one day loads of unsupervised children entered and just basically ran about and played on the gym equipment even though a sign said no-one under 16 allowed in there. There was potential for injury. The poor staff were continually pushing a lobster dish for a price, which became a bit tedious. We didn't do any of the shore excursions. So overall I would not choose Costa again. I have cruised with other lines so I do have something to compare it with. This was my 2nd Mediterranean cruise, the previous being with NCL which was a far superior experience. I could go on with more disappointment but I think enough said, I don't want it to become a novel. Read Less

THE best parts of this seven day Geek island cruise, the wonderful food and the great staff in the Dinning room. A special thanks from our family to Natalie the English guest representitive, she went above and beyond her duties to help us. Cabin staff were uninvolved with us , unlike other cruises we have been on. We had an incident were one of our party was locked out of her cabin and after one hour and four people being asked to he[p she arrived at our cabin extremely upset. No apology or explanation was given in an event that was quite traumatic. Again attributaed to the lack of involvment of the cabin staff. We were really disappointed with this cruise line as it advertised itself as not really a family ship and they gave no discounts to children. I find this really hard to believe as this ship was full of families and young children along with strollers everywhere. Beautiful children that we loved but as an older group we were trying to get away from our own families and choose this ship because it stated it was not a family ship. The noise level on deck was unbelievable as all these families joined in the constant loud music and dancing. One could not find a place on deck to sunbathe and read a book or just have a normal conversation without shouting. If you want that do not choose this ship. I would like to thank them for helping us when our baggage was delayed and missed the ship complicated by the change of ports due to bad weather. Costa went out of its way to get our baggage to us. I am unsure if I would use Costa again or believe what they say in their advertising. Read Less

We chose Costa as at the time RCL and NCL were already booked. Unfortunately we could not booked this cruise earlier in the year due to work schedule, etc. According to Costa website is “ Italy’s Finest “ with a slogan of providing every guest with a pleasant experience from our Italian heritage. We have to give kudos to the check in process, ship was clean and elegant, cabin was clean and comfortable with a balcony Now comes the best part : Buffet menu is the same items every single day. Getting a espresso coffee must be done at the bar, and wait in line for it. Getting eggs and bacon (who knows what kind of bacon it was ) it’s another story. By the time you search for the items you want, your food is cold. Of course you might think, why not visit the dining room and enjoy some delicious eggs Benedict! Well, we tried, Egg Benedicts with mayonnaise instead of hollandaise sauce. Waffles?? Imagine a piece of toast with the waffles mark on it and the same selection of items in the buffet just arrange differently, do you want a cup of Italian espresso? Please leave the dining room, find a bar and order it. Walk back to you seat and find your food cold. Or just have a cup of regular coffee and shut up Too much for Italian Costa Hospitality !!! Dining room for dinner - please do not ask for a cocktail before dinner , no no no. Go to the bar and order it. Walk back and seat down. This is not a joke, we had the drink package and the waitress the first dining night saw our cards and said “you are from the USA , you only get water “ wow welcome aboard !!!! Samsara Restaurant - €30 per person to book a more “exquisite dining “ experience. The restaurant is totally outdated. The ship is not However the menu was all seafood. My spouse is allergic to seafood. We asked for a different menu , they brought us the choices from the main dining room. We were ask for an extra €17 upcharge to get a steak. As I ordered the entrees, one of the was lamb chops. To my surprised they have been boiled then braised to give some chard to the meat. The taste ? Terrible. The pool area is very small for a 2500 passenger ship. Entertainment onboard is a bunch of crew members who has no talent and don’t want to do what they have been asked to do To recap, please take RCL or NCL even if the prices are higher. Better food and service, the crew will be more pleasant as they are not onboard a ship for 11 months at a time. Don’t waste your money ! Vacations are important and you work hard to enjoy them. My wife and I booked this and it's following cruise through a travel agents promotion in Australia. It looked like a good deal at the time. I have been on cruises with several other companies which have all been good. After booking this cruise we looked at cruise critic and were a bit shocked at some of the reviews which led us to be apprehensive about the trip. The embarkation was ok as it can be a bit chaotic on any cruise. On checking out the ship on arrival we were impressed overall especially the cabin which looked like it had just had a refit. After that it was all down hill. You cannot get an ice cream on board unless you pay for it not even in the main dinning room with dinner. You basically have to pay for everything extra. I always have a sauna when on the ship. When I couldn't access the sauna I enquired and was informed that it was 25Euro a day to use it which is a ridiculous amount to use a sauna for half an hour. No wonder the sauna looked unused. I have never paid for the use of the sauna before. Now for the real bad. The bistro was the most unbelievable place you could ever imagine. There is no hygiene control. No one uses the chemical supplied to sterilise their hands when entering the bistro. People touch food, cutlery and plates with their hands without using same. There are signs to show entry and exit but no one uses this. It is a free for all, pushing in to the middle of the que and going up the wrong way is just normal. It is normal to get pushed aside by people who think they have right of way. There are no staff as in other cruise lines controlling this. On other cruise a gloved staff member hands out the plate and cutlery after you have sterilised your hands. I don't know if this is normal on Italian cruse lines but the amount of food taken off the ship by people going on day trips staggered me. It looked like they were feeding a hoard. It was normal to see cruisers off the ship sitting eating the food from the breakfast session in the middle of cities we visited. Gratuities on this cruise line are compulsory and enforced and as such should be included in the fare not added on. In this case I would not have paid any gratuities as I found the food average, entertainment average and the service in most cases average. Mostly Italian is spoken during shows and entertainment which is a real problem for english speaking cruisers. Shore excursions were expensive. This is a cruise line built for Italians and only Italians. In my opinion if you are not Italian don't use this company. If Costa wants to improve it's image it needs to change its business format becoming an International cruise company catering for all nationalities. In its present format I cannot see Costa prospering as a major cruise line. The only area of the ship I liked and enjoyed was the Piano Bar. The staff in this bar were the most efficient and personable on the whole ship making it a pleasure to go there each night before and after dinner. Read Less

My mother and I traveled on Costa Luminosa from Venice to Greek Islands ( August 24 - September 1). This was our first cruise so we went with an open mind and not really knowing what to expect. We had a balcony room thank goodness I can't imagine a room without a balcony - so that was a positive. Waking up and having a coffee on the balcony was really nice. We are Canadian - English speaking and found language to be a barrier most of the time. Some cruise employees knew English but far and few between and when we needed assistance the limited English on board became an issue. Be prepared to hear a lot of Italian by fellow cruisers and employees - They do announce things in English but it is not very clear and can be easily missed. Overall, I found the Italians to be rude on board - pushy and always butting in line and smoking in your face. The food at the buffet was nothing special. I have stayed at all inclusive resorts for fraction of the cost with better food. Trying to find a seat at the buffet was impossible most days we had to sit with other people and the tables then became crammed. That being said the Taurus restaurant for dinner always had a good and unique selection. Rooms service was good - always cleaned on time and enough room to be comfortable. Drink package - this DOES NOT mean alcohol - the only thing that is included in the base fair is water from the tap..... I did not know this and my travel agent did not advise me of this. Juices, pops, coffee, tea , cappuccino is all extra - if this is something you want I would look into that drink package. A coffee in the morning in the room cost 1.55 Euros..... botttle of water 3.00 Euro. The Ports we traveled to were all unique and different - also know that you can get same excursions on land as what Costa offers for fraction of the cost.... once you get into port there are locals and agencies who have same tours - we never had an issue doing tours this way. Overall I wouldn't travel Costa again due to lack of food quality, language barrier and felt like because we weren't Italian we were looked down upon. Pack your patience if you travel Costa..... We have been on 10 cruises and Costa Magica does not rate very well compared to the others. We booked this just to see what other cruise lines had to offer and were pleased with the price but overall disappointed. Embarkations was the easiest so far....flawless and no lines. The ships overall appearance seems to be nice and updated. The rooms are roomy for a cruise ship and we were pleased. We were assigned seating for dining and loved the family that we were paired with but we do not like the assigned seating and prefer the "Freestyle Dining". This allows much more flexibility and not such a rigid schedule while on vacation, The food was edible but not good. Several times we tried what they brought out but chose not to eat it or ate it because we were starving.. We were also disappointed that they do not serve coffee with dessert. Coffee is only served during breakfast and at the bar. Breakfast is good and we chose to go to our assigned dining room for breakfast because it was not as hectic as Deck 9 (which is a free for all). They do offer a menu and serve you coffee as well as a continental breakfast. We were usually off the ship during lunch so we do not know how that went. The service during the Dinner was below average. We constantly had to ask for water and very seldom would pour it for you. The server would just set it on the table. Entertainment was average. We never book shore excursions with the cruise lines because they are too expensive and the groups are too large. We did hear that the ship offered a really good program for the kids which is a plus for families. One of the big things we noticed was they were not require you to clean your hands prior to meals and did not offer warm wash cloths/sanitizer to clean your hands when you are coming aboard the ship after touring another country. Hand sanitizer was unavailable when boarding the ship in some ports and the one going into the dining area did not work properly. Also, we never saw them sanitizing the handrails, etc on the ship. The workers told us they work 8 months a year, 11 hour days, 7 days a week which I am sure this contributed to the poor service. Hopefully, they were given the gratuity that is automatically added to your bill. Our cabin as mid ship on Deck 2 and we could hear the crew working throughout the night most every night. Between the food/service/sanitizing I would not recommend this cruise line. Read Less
