We booked this cruise primarily to escape the usual Christmas hype and also to experience the brand new Costa Diadema ship. We spent two nights in Barcelona prior to joining the ship on 22nd December 2014 and must admit to feeling some trepidation as we had never before cruised on a ship with so many passengers, however, we went with an open mind and were determined to enjoy the holiday.

I sometimes wonder whether some people's expectations are just too high.
My daughter and I have just got off the Costa Diadema and can honestly say we had a great week. Yes, you have to pay for water at dinner, yes, the service charge is mandatory and yes, there are Italians on board - but we all knew this (or should have known this) before booking.
The ship is shiny and new, the cabins are ...
Boarding was an apocalyptic chaos, despite the fact there was to be priority embarkation. Took us an hour to get to the gangway only to be told that we had to back to check-in because they had forgotten to give us health declaration forms. An hour later we were on board.
Somebody else's bag turned up at our door with our bag tag 24 hours after boarding. We returned it and liberated our own bag ...
We flew to Milan and spent a night there before joining a coach to Savona to board the Costa Serena. Quaotic lack of organisations on at Milan airport with a total lack of proper organisation and little better when boarding. However we are both wheelchair boarding passengers and this was arranged reasonably well. Cabins were more than adequate, clean and comfortable with excellent steward ...
We took the Christmas cruise from Dubai on the Costa Serena in a premium balcony room on deck 8. The room was quiet and well positioned although seemed smaller than the 20sq.m that Costa claim. Room was made up appropriately each day. The itinerary was good. (Dubai, AbuDhabi, Muscat and Kasabh)
I'd echo other people's concerns about cutbacks. Most of these are simple things but they leave you ...
The newest, and most efficiently run ship but the worst cruise ever been on. All about Costa maximising profit.
No entertainment like lectures or port talks
Ridiculous prices for drinks, which are in euros and not pounds as previously suggested.
Breakfast is just cake and bread and one variety of cheap processed cheese and meat, unless you get up early and go to main restaurant, which is only ...
Costa Cruises is really awfull. I have never experienced such a bad taste, bad service, bad food, bad acomodations and very bad common areas. I have done a lot of cruises including the "high end" like Silversea but also the "standard" ones like Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, etc., which by the way they are also going down all the way in terms of quality and service; and ironically Costa costs as much ...
I am a 55-year-old American professor of literature who has been working in Dubai for eight-and-a-half years. My wife is a 47-year-old high-school math teacher from the Philippines. The local schools are closed for three weeks during the holidays and we wanted to get away for awhile. We travelled extensively last summer by plane and will do so again next June: the time-saving convenience of taking ...
This was our first Costa Cruise, eighth with six different cruise companies.
Embarkation was extremely efficient. From arriving at the terminal, we were on the ship and in the cabin within half an hour. First impression was excellent. The ship is very grand, nicer than the Queen Elizabeth, whilst our room an inside cabin on deck two was very high standard
Unfortunately our experiences on our ...
