Excellent itinerary - The pearls of the Indian Ocean including Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar and Reunion. We are frequent travellers from Norway and we have been on cruise many times with Cunard, RCCL and Celebrity. We were rather surprised to read about the bad critics made by other travellers. We decided therefore to write this review in order to give other points of view regarding Costa Cruise. Although the Costa Victoria is old, she is very well maintained and very clean. The overall organisation and logistics on board are outstanding. In my view at same level as the other companies we know: RCCL and Celebrity. The security is taken very seriously and the service everywhere is excellent. The food is better than average and one will always find something he/she likes. Very large variety of menus. However, after 2 weeks, one loose appetite, which is rather normal. We "upgraded" our meals to the restaurant Club Victoria for 5 days at an additional cost of EUR 25 per day including breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant is more elegant and smaller. The service there was more personalised and sitting place/time flexible. Activities on board are good. Dynamic teams entertain people on deck. In my view, there are a little bit too much activities on deck, but it probably suits younger people than me. There are quiet places many other places on board when it gets too noisy at the pool deck. The shows in the evenings were exceptional nearly every night. Bravo to the dancers! The fitness room needs to be refurbished. The size is too small and not adapted to the large number of users. The cabin (with balcony) is not very large but comfortable. The beds are good. We did not use the excursions proposed on board because we are used to take local taxis or other transportation means when we are on land. Excursions sold on board are too expensive. The spa and massages are far too expensive as well. But overall we will highly recommend Costa Victoria and the itinerary in the Indian Ocean. High value for the money paid. Read Less

My wife and I chose this cruise for its itinerary, its cost and not the cruise line. We had read a variety of differing reviews and were expecting to have some problems with availability of free drinking water and hot drinks. We encountered no such problems as both were readily available in the self service restaurants throughout the day and late evening. Staff were approachable and friendly given the fact they had to contend with so many different nationalities. Once we had recognised we were aboard a ship reflecting the United Nations we embraced the opportunities to interact with our fellow passengers who reciprocated in a similar manner. Fellow passengers were friendly and it is to be expected with so many people in a confined space there were some occasions when people acted in a discourteous manner. Embarkation was the quickest we had ever experienced and everything was available for us to use once we were aboard. Disembarkation proved to be a similar experience and because we were going to hotel later on in the day we were able to stay onboard enjoying the benefits until no later than 12 noon. Our outside cabin was comfortable and clean. We had no issues of disturbance from entertainment sounds even though we were below the Concorde plaza which had live music until the early hours. Lifts were plentiful and efficient. However, our cabin was on deck 6a and to get to it we had to climb down a flight of stairs from deck7 which would be challenging for anybody with mobility problems. Staff easily changed our assigned dining time to our preferred time. The menu choice in restaurants and buffet was varied given the large numbers of diners. The Sinfonia restaurant provided a more relaxed environment for breakfast and you were able to order items from a menu additional to the buffet. On our 14 night cruise there were two Gala dinners and dress code was optional, black tie, suit and smart casual. We were not able to find out before embarking on the cruise what the dress code was going to be. Additional to the two formal nights we had a white night and an Italian red white and green night, all of which were optional. The daily diary, delivered late evening, was full of the days activities, timings and venues. We participated in some and watched others entertain us and fellow passengers as is usual when cruising. Entertainment in the the theatre included a variety of genres and overall it provided a pleasant experience. Visiting the Seychelles for 2 days enabled us on the first day to tour the Island using the local buses from the central bus station in Victoria for 7 rupees per journey. On the second day we used the services of one of the many tour touts ,outside the port gates, to provide us with a days tour to to the marine reserve, Moyenne Island, snorkelling and Creole meal for 90 euros each, which was cheaper than the cruise line. During our 3 days in Madagascar we used the excellent services of Madagascar Excursions to provide us with 3 excursions offered by the cruise line but at a much reduced price. In all the ports we visited taxis were available to negotiate a price for an excursion and we heard of no one being disappointed by using them. In Reunion Island we chose to hire a car from Avis, who have a pickup location five minute walk from the cruise terminal. The location also provides rentals from Budget. We chose to tour Reunion using a car because it gave us greater freedom of choice. We booked the car knowing we had to find overnight parking which we were pleased to find was available in the cruise terminal char park. In Mauritius we secured the services of Mauritius taxis, operated by a Mr.Charles, to provide us with an 8 hour tour of the south of the island for 83 euros between 3 persons. Both Mad’Ex tours and Mauritius taxis can be contacted by email. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed the islands we visited acknowledging we have only had a snapshot of them. Read Less

We have chosen the itinerary not the ship but as the agency recommended this ship as a 5 stars from Costa fleet I expected the best of it. Well unfortunately expectations were far too high compared to reality. First of all is not a 5 stars and if I take the quality of the cabin and restaurant grounds is not even 4, I would give it a maximum of 3. The whole ship looks like it would have been furnished in the 80`s with a lot of kitsch elements. Golden metal, dull colors, and a wallpaper that can be unappropriated for certain ages. The cabin was ok in size but far too little place to put your stuff in especially if you are a family of 4. Best you have the least of luggage pieces as there is no place but under 1 bed to store it. The bed was pretty comfortable but had a dirty head far too small for practical use but we avoided touching it anyway as was stained. Bathroom was the classical small one and except soap there was no other toiletry provided and I mean just soap not shampoo. You could call for some cream or shower cap if you wanted. The shower curtain was matter of few cms too short to make sure you inundate the whole space when showering - couldn`t they afford to buy few cm more to save the stress of leaking water... Once we got paper napkins which I think was a mistake as the box disappeared after without being replaced. The towels and bed sheets always had some spots even if being newly replaced - I have never seen in a ship or high end hotel so many spots on "freshly changed" stuff. Not sure they came this way from cleaning or just the cleaning lady somehow poorly handled them - I called several times to be changed till gave up. It was also clear that the cleaning lady is overloaded - in the days they embark there was no way she manages all the cabins. Restaurants were a bigger issue. The buffet restaurants upstairs were always very dirty and disorganized. Imagine you come first thing in the morning and your marmor imitation table is dirty which I believe was left dirty from dinner as typically you`ll find ketchup and bread crumbs. Worse is that the servers didn`t cared too much even when they were told. Once the lady I asked to clean it just cleaned half of table ... anyway the way they cleaned was passing an already cluttered cloth which would leave a disgusting watery surface I used to anyway dry again myself with paper towels. Actually by the end of the cruise my morning routing was to pick up directly paper towels and clean my table... Food was plenty but nothing you would really say wow - there was an Italian theme indeed not all the dishes were tasting as expected. Prosciutto was something I enjoyed but the mozzarella they said is done on ship was not really good. Buffet was fine even if twice I had to get out a piece of hair from my grilled meat. Worse was the dinner as there was no single time when I could say wow - in other cruises we took we really had dinners where you could feel the difference to buffet in high end food here I think better stick with buffet. Twice we returned the main dish without touching it. Once we got at extra cost lobster - that came just grilled ok we asked grilled but expected some fancy tasty sauce as a completion - was not bad but that was just grilled lobster they want 25 euro for. Desserts were a huge disappointment - whatever had white color was just wiped cream that they call it one day mousse the other panna cota and so on. I remember one time when they had a chocolate cake in the buffet that was really good, tasty not something you would just take in as need of sugar. We ended up buying gelato for kids and that was extra cost but good. Standard coffee from machines was poor in taste, I used the decaf one that was not so bad on the other side. The button on their coffee machine was broken and fell down every time you pushed it so you had to pick it up stick it back and hold it so it doesn't fall again - in the 2 weeks we were there nobody bothered to repair it so you would just feel the need to tell to the newcomers the secret how to keep it in place. For drinks you need to pay extra - we just took a lunch and dinner package to have drinks during this time and we wanted to upgrade for cocktails but failed to do this on line and on the ship we were surprised to find out that it costs more then double in price so we said we buy by piece whenever we want and frankly we were happy we didn't wasted money on it. The wine they get you at lunch and dinner is really low quality and the cocktails especially at the pool bar didn't look at all appealing neither is size, care in preparation or content. The restaurant allocated for dinner was not fancy in any way and worse was that it had some separation for waiters with sinks and cupboards and if you were unlucky enough to be on the lower side facing these places it was extremely noisy as they were throwing in cutlery and plates. It was like eating in a kids canteen. Service at the first table we were in was too relaxed, we had to serve ourselves for refills with wine for example. We wanted to ask a change just because of the noise and surprisingly one day we get a paper that we were allocated to another table by our request - good news but actually we didn't made that request so suppose was their way to force us to move. We were happy with the new siting both table and service but one day after another paper, another move. This time we were so upset with our 3-rd waiter attitude that we went and asked the change ourselves and gave negative feed back - we believe that the reception lady gave this negative feed back to another waiter. Anyway at least last 3 days we had a normal service in a place where we should not feel like in a canteen. One huge negative point the dress code. For evening I expect on a cruise that people dress up a bit if not they can go in the buffet. Here in the formal restaurant at dinner I have seen people in flip flops and plastic slippers, a lot of loose sport wear and plenty of sporty shorts. I expect the personnel is keeping and reinforcing the dress code. Also no welcome to the dinner restaurant if there was more then 1 waiter there they would chat between them. Public toilets close to restaurant were at noon still missing towels, I didn't had the courage to visit the ones near pool preferring to return if needed in the cabin. Service overall was exactly that: no interest - I have read the reviews of other passengers and looks like many agree the personnel is completely not motivated, no smile, no interest I`am not even saying about any extra mile to make your stay magic. Seemed from outside there is little connection between their various levels of personnel. This is the only ship or resort where people simply don`t smile, not even when they were paid to welcome you. Photographs were having a too imposing attitude. Dinners were worse as you chew your food and the guy pops up and almost commands you to take a posing position. I looked by curiosity on the photos they print and was not impressed with quality either. Reception was another negative. If you come with a complain their attitude becomes not pleasant and if you come for another reason mostly they would redirect you to someplace else. I`m not sure why they call hospitality desk as it`s anything but not hospitality. They would not solve a problem for you but have enough time to chase you for feed back. We had to ask 4 times or even more we get the daily bulletin. On the other side they were more than happy to fill our postal box with tons of wasted paper on what they sell in the shop. The daily journal was just ship`s activities, could be nice they include something on the port of calls like we had on other ships. The upper deck was pretty busy so if you want a chair in the shadow around the pools you must literally be first thing in the morning ready to grab your chaise long if not up in the sun. For the size of the ship I expected bigger facilities in entertainment. They have 3 pools but their were smaller then on a small ship with one. f you had few kids in it was already full - felt you were in a larger bath tab. The big water slide was a catch definitely for kids - in sea days expect big lines, also is opened only few hours morning and resp after noon. In terms of activities and entertainment for us the huge positive point was their kids club - limited a bit by the languages they spoke but still you could practically have the kids there almost full day and they cover even lunch and dinner time. Other wise you have the standard by the pool games, some dance classes, aerobic etc as in any resort or ship. The theater had some attractive shows but we were never able to catch them in full given the dinner settings - not able to catch first and too late for the second. In terms of embarkation and exit from ship we can heavily complain about the start of our trip as we were canceled a flight and had to join the ship only second day while we were still paying the full cruise. We have called both agency and Costa help desk and they told us as we already paid the cruise in full we can embark second day when ever we want - so even calling once more just before leaving our hotel and getting insurance from Costa we can embark we come on place and surprise we need to wait till standard embarkation time> we were neither returned our money for the first day we were not on the ship. We took only one single trip from them directly - as practically is almost double in price compared with local agencies which is not fair if you take the fact that mostly on cruise bought trips there will be large groups and less flexibility. Worse was with kids price as if local agencies give you 50% or more discount Costa discounts were minimal for kids. Here once again no proper communication as we bought this trip in advance on line on Costa site but nobody told us we need to actually get the tickets personally on the ship - we never experienced this before as on other cruises they will put the tickets or waist bands in your post from own initiative or at least give you the info what to do. Good we asked a day in advance and they said they are out of free places and it`s not their fault - after further discussions proving there was zero communication on procedure we finally got our tickets and we were surprised to see the second day the tour was not even full. There were also several changes in the second week in terms of timing of port stay so get a margin when you plan for shore excursions on your own. This of course is not always at cruise decision and depends a lot on weather. Language on board counting that most serving of personnel is Asian will inevitable turn to English. I have several times called the room service for change of dirty towels or lack of soap and even if they answered in Italian I had to reconfirm in English or they brought the wrong item. What was pretty good on the other side is that we never waited in long queues to get back on ship and probably that was because most of stops were full day and people had more flexibility on return time so would not head all in one at the entry. All in one we were not satisfied with our ship experience from the quality of service overall but the 14 days mixture of islands they offer is really interesting. For those interested in the itinerary suggest o check other similar offers with different companies or pay a special attention to price if they decide for Costa. Read Less

Full disclosure: I won this cruise, so my only choice was itinerary, and after reading many negative reviews, I was quite worried. My worries were unfounded and we had an amazing time...as Americans, the Italian flavor added to the experience...rather than detracted, in our opinion. The last night, the dining room was rocking as waiters danced with passengers, the Italians started a conga line and everyone...Italians, Americans, Germans, French, etc....sang Italian songs. There are some things that will seem inefficient to Americans, but just chill out and enjoy a little bit of the European experience. It was particularly fun to watch the Super Bowl on the big screen by the pool with the other American passengers and stand for the national anthem...the grill was also open late that night, so we could indulge in burgers, hot dogs and fries. I will never forget the look on some of the crew's faces when Big Boi performed in that giant fur coat for the halftime show! As far as entertainment, we liked all the shows, but especially Davide, the tenor and "The Voice at Sea"...where passengers competed in a sing-off. All competitiors got encouragement from the audience and we had a little nationalistic pride when an American won. Bingo was done a little differently with push-in cards and the caller reading off the numbers in 5 or 6 languages...again, FUN! I didn't buy a drink in a bar, but my son and his fiance did and they said prices were even a bit lower than those in Vegas, where they live. We only took one tour with Costa...in Jamaica...and it was well-run with awesome guides. They only spoke English, so I'm not sure if the Europeans enjoyed it as much as we did, but most of the activities did not really require a narration. We loved the dance lessons and shout out to the Latin Dance team who would dance with passengers in one of the bars at night. The musicians at all of the venues were excellent....if you like to dance, you will LOVE this ship! Cabins were okay...maybe a little dated, but comfortable. Many complain about lack of turndown service...I think most of us are capable of doing that ourselves. My room was always made up when I returned from breakfast, gym and spa. We had second dinner seating, which started out tough for us, being American, but we adapted by eating a salad or dessert at the buffet and then going down and having a delicious dinner in the dining room. I have seen complaints re charges for pizza and burgers...you can eat those for free at lunch...no need to pay at all. As our itinerary progressed, we were actually glad for late seating, as we got back late at some of the ports and would have rushed to get to the first seating. I used the spa and gym daily...part of the reason I only gained 1 lb, despite indulging in dessert 2x/day. Both are excellent and the spa package was a great value...especially during sea days. Be sure to register your credit card at one of the kiosks when you get on the ship (this was one of my only complaints...why can't you register it upon check-in at thea port?) or you will need to settle your bill in person at the Hospitality Desk, which had a very long line as our trip concluded. My only other complaint has nothing to do with the ship or cruise, but just that the Costa customer service department in the US had an incredibly long wait time on the phone before I was even connected with an agent...and that they would not return phone calls or emails. All in all, a fantastic cruise...one of the best I've been on...and it had little to do with the ship, but mostly because of the atmosphere. I lived in Germany for 3 years when I was much younger and loved it...I always found that if you travel to other countries and want things the same way as they are at home...maybe you should just stay home. We chose this cruise to join some friends on a vacation and the ship went to islands we had never been to before. This is the first time on a Costa cruise. I had read previous reviews about pushy people, etc., but we found all co-cruisers were good mannered people all enjoying vacation. The food was quite good at the evening dinner and buffets at breakfast and lunch. The entertainment overall okay but it was mostly too loud on the 5th floor dance area and in some of the lounges, one could hardly talk to someone sitting beside them and once it actually hurt my ears just walking through the area. This isn't evening "disco" time I am talking about this is early evening music entertainment. There is definitely opportunity there to turn down the music a bit. The other opportunity that Costa could look at is their dinner service. It was slow most the time. Often our dirty plates sat in front of us for quite some time, slow on wine refills and they didn't offer coffee service in the dining room. For cruise pictures...I think the Costa should move to digital. Who really wants 11X17 pictures for their walls? This cruise was excellent value for my money. I would travel on this ship again. Staff were all pleasant, food was very good. The ship overall had a nice ambiance. I really enjoyed one day while the ship leaving the island for the day, the "opera" singer, singing the song "Time to Say Goodbye". That was a nice moment. Read Less

You get what you pay for. Do yourself a favor and book a real cruise, not one that works you over at every step of the way. Save a little more money and do it right. Way to many cons vs. pros to mention. Only good thing was our cabin and room steward. These people work like dogs all for the almighty corporate profit. No costumer service. So many different languages, very little is included. You pay extra for just about everything. They rush you through dinner and kick you out before you're done if your server is slow. With all the fancy words on the menu you don't know what you're eating and half the menu you have to pay extra for, including water. Who ever heard of such a thing. Sometimes they would make the crew do a show while you are dining and it's so loud you have to hold you ears. Entertainment was loud and boring like from the 1970's. Pool is tiny and so crowded you can't enjoy yourself. No towels. I mean I could go on and on. For us, never again. I've been on Princess, Holland American, Regent and Seaborn. Don't make the same mistake we did. Read Less

Regardless of poor reviews that we read, we embarked on the Costa Deliziosa due to provided price discounts (~70%) for 2 x 10 consecutive days. And, the following is our personal opinion: 1. Food and its variety was very good in taste and the quality terms. Except: a) there was very poor choice of tropical & exotic fruits like Papaya (popular in Central America), Dragon, Pepino,.....etc. Kiwi were to hard and not well matured. b) often we encountered a shortage of water melons. c) often there was an annoying line-up for the food at pick hours d) service over the supper lasted too long (~ 2 hrs). e) free coffee was of poor quality 2.There was too many outdoor cigarette smoking places. The smoke from outside was entering main corridors through the door openings into the Buffet area making difficult to find a smoke-free place. Smoke was even evaporating on walking / jogging path on the top deck. Also, the walking path was blocked by people laying on chairs. Cigarette's smoke from the balcony was penetrating over the day and some night hrs inside of our balcony, hence we were very limited to have the benefits of balcony. Read Less

Cruising for me is a wonderful experience no matter what. I have traveled by cruise ship 30+ Times. This shop was by far the worst in terms of food quality and options. I would gladly pay more for better quality food. The drink package is deceptive. We upgraded 2 times and still had to pay for a bottle of water to take in shore. Their menu in the dining room was not what I expected. Very limited and mostly lie cost meals prepared poorly. When I complained about this I was given a complimentary dinner at one of the specialty restaurants. It was the worst lobster I have ever had! How in the world do you mess up a lobster?? Never got ice with my drunks even though I asked multiple times. I will never cruise with costa again. The excuse that they cater to a European crowd as unacceptable. Chose this cruise due to outstanding places, visiting Singapore, Bangkok, Khuala Lampur, Phuket, Langkawi, Penang, Ko Samui, Sinahoukville. All were great places to visit with lots of temple, artifact, great people and fabulous food. Best of all, Bangkok. A city so vibrant, lots of cafes and restaurant in every corner with so many dishes to choose from, its an unbelievable city. Next on the list is of course Singapore, so clean, friendly, cosmopolitan and a bit on the expensive side. Phuket was not that great, of course if you like athmosphere towns like Ibiza or Ayia Napa full of restaurants and bars and night clubs, than Phuket its for you. Had a nice meal in a hotel restaurant and overall was good. Local dishes were great! Prawns in quantity and abundance. Cambodia was a let down, I wonder what the local government is doing about the state of the city. After all they suffer, the population demand and expect better, tourist are flocking into the city, money is coming in, but the total structure is way below poverty line. Feel very sorry for the locals. The ship (Costa Fortuna) was a bit of let down, cabin was good and spacious, restaurant were mediocre, buffet very crowde as expected due to lay out. Far too many DONT for a crusie liner, hence the heading of cutting services. Far too many member of the catering team in the buffet area, speak other language execpt the language to connetc with guest. Meaning, if a waiter is from Indonesia or the Philippines, they continually speak own language aloud in public areas. Denying English Breakfast Tea at breakfast time, afternoon tea time and any other time, contrary to other company in the market, which tea is always welcome and available. Some guests were asking for lemon for the tea, and were told no more lemon. Run out of Prosecco on board, run out of sparkling water with 5 day to end the cruise. In the restaurant, lots of supervisory member walk around the floor, including the Manager, but none interact with guest in checking that food is appreciated and of the standard required, in few occasion had to send back the dinner due to food being cold. Felt sorry for the waiter, but after all I paid for a service that didnt get accordingly! Have another cruise booked with Costa in March, and have lots of concern of fulfillment and pleasure. Worst of all, at the end of the cruise, you are lumped with a bill of 200 euro for service charge which the company say its compulsory making the total of cruise much higher than expected. Surely this is against the law in the UK. Read Less

The itinerary looked good and so I booked the cruise allowing Costa to book the flights. This was a big mistake, you cannot trust them. I normally book my own flights and allow for possible flight delays by staying overnight the night prior to boarding. I was due to fly Manchester /Paris Charles De Gaulle changing for flight to Mauritius. They allowed 85 minutes to change planes, anybody knowing this airport would think this tight. This ultimately was not a problem as the first plane was cancelled as my taxi arrived to take me to the airport. I rang Costa who told me to go to the airport and they would contact me . I was left for about four hours without contact, finally with the office now closed for the weekend, I received a call from India in broken English. I could not hear in the busy airport, so went to hotel for Friday night and rang India for instructions. I offered to go home or go on the next cruise with compensation. I was offered to fly me to Seychelles and miss the first 3 days of the cruise, the unnamed hotel was with food , a drink with meals and no entertainment. It meant one day stay in place of 3 days fully inclusive on cruise, I said that I would prefer to stay on the ship and return from Seychelles, so that I would get what I paid for. I would go on the shorter cruise if compensated. I was assured that the compensation would be made onboard. Once onboard, it was left until the day before I left to be told my cruise was not being extended and my compensation was €50 a day. I find this to be grossly undervalued plus all the stress. Upon my return, the offer of a €100 per person off a future cruise was derisory. Entertainment was boring with few entertainment staff working hard. Tours are very expensive and poorly organised. Madagascar very dissapointing. Cruise operating in rainy season did not help. I dined Ist sitting on a table for 12 in Sinfonia Restaurant, they brought another chair so 13 could sit there. This squashed everybody and annoyed next table waiter, who kept telling me to move my chair in. He was friendly, I asked him for a spoon and he told me to ask my waiter. The cutlery offered was often bizarre, a knife and fork for spaghetti. The food was terrible and displayed with pride as you entered the restaurant, it looked unappetising and nobody waived a magic wand when it appeared on your plate. The portions were small, poor quality and often served colder than desired. A doctor sat with me shared my concerns as the restaurant became half full, I developed diarrhoea for five days, so I moved to the upstairs buffet. This is self service and first night a Chinese girl vomited on my table, this could happen anywhere, however I had my suspicions. Every night half the dishes were lukewarm. I never saw anybody with a thermometer and I reported it to a supervisor. He went and spoke to chef, he came back and said that chef would do me some hot food if I wanted it. Says it all Costa have lost control on this ship. Please and thankyou are not used on this ship. Smiles seldom and rude waiters tolerated. This cruise shows the low level now tolerated by Carnival. you think about a relaxed vacasion, fine entertainment, nice cabin, ship in good shape, interesting excursions, see new countries, meet nice people, have a good time? Nothing of all we found at a world-cruis with Costa Luminosa, starting 5. of Januar 19 till now (30.03.19). Explanation: the averig of the guest ist probably 75, that means we travelled with a lot of guests older than 90. Nothing against old people, but that is a special thing, severel in Wheel-chairs, probably 60% of them are sick, and we and almost all the other guests get also sick, for weeks, we called it finally the "Costa sickness", worst cough, fever, inflamed eyes, even people who never get sick otherwise, got sick, mostly for weeks The ship is old and in bad shape, old dirty carpeting, lamps, floors, dishes, we had a "Samsara cabin with balcony", Samsara means you get free entrance to the spa, be aware, maybe you get there some virus there (ist ugly dirty) You want to drink a free coffee at 06.15: bad luck, wait till 07:00 or make one yourself in the cabin (capsules), You want water to drink, you have to buy it, 12 bottle for US 36,-- (packet) You want Internet: you have to buy it, but you will be surpriced, often it is not working and the Connection is so terrible, that I could´dt never open my Banking account, I had to wait for land, Looking there vor a Restaurant and asked for Internet. Looking for a movie at night; you get one (1) per day, there is nothing more The tour plan itself: we got around 60 see-days (from together 112), that means we sit at the ship waiting for the next Landing, sometimes we had 5 see-days on a row, often we had to be at 05.00 p.m. back Ankering: we think Costa wants save Money, so the ship is ankering instead of pear, that causes you wait for the tender boat and the last tender boat is 04:00, There are other 10 Things to write, but ist not worth the time. Now why is my Rating one Point and not sero? The Food is good and the Service People try their best Read Less

- I got a last minute offer from an agency (on 2nd January and the cruise started on 5th January from Savona), and it was a good value for the money paid, but if I had to pay the full price, I would be disappointed. It was not our first time cruise with Costa, but in general the service is of lower quality than on MSC and that reflects also on prices. The embarkation went smoothly when our time arrived, but we had to wait for more than 1,30 hrs although we arrived late (approx. at 15,00 h). Usually, when we arrive this late we are immediately scheduled for embarkation. The disembarkation went more smooth, since we waited until 10,30 h to disembark, and not push to be the first to get off the boat. SHIP - the biggest in the Costa fleet - a small city on the sea - balcony cabin on the left side of the boat (8th deck); great, spatious cabin, always clean; got a bottle of sparkling wine since I am in the Costa Club - the cabin choice was good for some rough sea that we have experienced - Dining restaurant is huge, service staff was nice, but it took them a long time to get us drinks; also, since I bought a package of soft-drinks, once they get us drinks in glasses, and once we got them in cans (more hygenic) and the size is different. Food in general is of average quality, but it downgraded from our last trip (in 2017). There is no more scrambled eggs, the line for breakfast eggs is soo looong, there are no American pancakes for breakfast. The staff in Diana Restaurant (deck 10) is generally less hospitable than in other restaurants. The ship was overcrowded with families, well, basically with kids, but we are used to this. If you are looking for a high-class cruise, peaceful and with lots of attention, this is not a cruise for you. Entertainment was great, and we loved Jose Navarro, the tenor. Service in our room was good, although we were a bit surprised that we did not received 3 hand towels but only 2 although there were 3 adult persons onboard in our cabin. Service in general area and in the restaurant Adularia was good. Ports visited were great, but we have visited them already, and we enjoyed visiting them again. The tours booked on the ship are too expensive in general, so we opted for self-organised tours, mostly with taxi (cheaper, visited some other places, had enough time to visit inside the building if we wanted, get time also for shopping and return to the ship afterwards - like with our private driver and guide). I travel with my teenager doughter and she was much happier 2 yrs before, because we had more international group. Italian kids do keep for themselves and do not mix much with others. We will definitively go for another cruise, but maybe with a different fleet, different ship or different itinerery. Read Less

So I'm just gonna be straightforward with the good, bad, and the ugly. Buckle up kiddos, because you're in for quite a ride with this one. GOOD: -Embarking and Disembarking was a very simple process -- usually pretty quick. -Rooms were nice and clean with decent amount of space -- Balcony rooms came at a great rate. -Photographers were experienced and friendly. Pretty much were willing to try whatever you wanted for memorable photos. -Great if you want to interact with people from different cultures & diverse backgrounds. BAD: -You could literally feel the ship moving at all times. We've been on other cruise ships before and no other ship has rocked as much as this one to the point where it interrupts your day. Members of my family were literally sick for whole days on this ship because you could constantly feel the rocking. Apparently this is a common problem because the front desk gives out seasickness pills for free... -All help desks/excursion desks are open at strange times and for very short hours. -There is a language barrier a lot of times in general with most employees because most of them speak Italian, French, or Spanish as a primary language. Service overall is TERRIBLE. -Waitstaff is understaffed, especially in the main dining room. Service is slow due to the fact that one waiter is assigned to about 4 tables to serve 3-5 course meals per table without assistance. Meals can last up to 3 hours. -Nothing is included in your package except for dinner and the buffet. All other food places, spa areas, snacks, movie theater, decent fitness classes, even WATER, etc. all cost extra. This was different for us compared to Royal Carribean because all snacks, movies, and such were included. -Pool is tiny. Only two hot tubs. Not much on the top deck. -Not much to do when at sea. Entertainment is basically the same performers doing different things. Mostly music acts. "Parties" only include a DJ and pretty much nothing else. The only club on board is what the ship uses as the "Teen Club" during the day and converts it into the adult club at starting at midnight. UGLY: -Excursions poorly planned and priced. Most excursions are 2x-3x more expensive than if you purchased the same trip after arrival at the local excursion booths. We signed up for an ATV adventure and it was not in the pamphlet nor did they tell us ahead of time that we needed Sneakers and Drivers Licenses with us when we arrived. One employee told us it was fine, but another told us 15 min before departure that it was mandatory. Had to run all the way back to the ship to collect our things frantically, returned only for the group to have left without us. Employees were rude when we asked questions and basically told us it wasn't their problem. Highly DO NOT recommend doing excursions with Costa. If you HAVE to take this ship, do excursions with the locals on land!!! -Food is poor quality-- bland and very strong/unclean tasting fish. For an Italian ship, pasta was often not made very well. Was often undercooked and sauces were bland. There was also never much variety. You will basically be eating the same food every day. -Food areas are open at weird times. The buffet is open for about 2-3 hours at a time for meals. If you're hungry for a snack or something in between, you will have to pay extra at other places. TL;DR The service sucks. The food sucks. The experience sucks. This ship sucks. If you want a floating hotel, this is a cheap option. If you want a cruise, look to Royal Carribean, Princess, Carnival, or Norwegian instead. This is not worth your time or money. Read Less

Bought the cruise as an alternate Christmas gift. Looking forward to seeing the islands and just getting away. What a disappointment! Most of the staff had trouble with English. The cabins had daily changes of towels but the bedding was not changed for the whole 11 days. The tour office gave incorrect information and if you wanted to cancel a tour you were out of luck. That required a doctors note. Tours were not as advertised, well some were, some not. I was sick 5 out of 11 days due to the food...and not the only one. Table selection was not available and after waiting an hour to have seating changed were advised what we wanted Was not possible. We paid for the specialty restaurants, not so special. The menu on the specialty restaurants were similar to regular dining rooms on other cruise lines. The entertainment was marginal. A lot was from the crew...no headliners. Read Less

Our cabins were EXCELLENT and we had pleanty of room. Hot water all the time, confortable bed and lovely view. The shore excursions are all great BUT extremelly expensive. We got better deals on each port by manuvering around by ourselves with locals. I personally found the decor of the ship a bit too much, but again...my aunt LOVED IT! The theme is music and violins and lots and lots of mirrors. There is a spa worth every penny, large gym, excellent staff and accomodations. There are great deals at their stores on perfumes, watches and jewlery. I loved the food and the amiable service by their restaurant staff and the men that serviced our cabins. YUNANTA was the Best!!!! The food quality was superb, the choices...endless and the taste BEYOND AMAZING. I just spent 7 days crusing Saint Martin, Catalina, Tortola, Martinica and Guadalupe (At Tortola they did not allow dominicans to desembark). My only problem with Costa Cruise line is the fact that they did not inform Dominicans before hand of the issues with British island of Tortola and their refusal to allow us to desembark. Their options for entertainment were not to my liking. The music and amenities were more fitting for older people (my aunt of 76 LOVED IT!). However, the staff in charge of such activities were always hipe, funloving, attentive and willing to show guests a great time. The entire staff of the cruise was really kind but not very good about giving the adequate information. We had issues with the information given since our arrival at the Dominican port at Romana. The staff contradicting information provided for several confussions throught our stay onboard. Nevertheless, I would still say that my overall experience on Costa Pacifica was VERY GOOD! Read Less

The worst cruise line ever! Rude and unprofessional staff in every department. The self serve Restaurant was always packed and we often had to wait for a table and the counters were also so busy that we had to wait in long lines for the most unappetising food I have ever had the misfortune to eat !! The desserts were the same every day, both at lunch and dinner. In the main restaurant it was awful service and disgusting food at breakfast. The hot plated breakfast looked over cooked or reheated and most of the staff were clueless when we asked for anything. No waiters or Maitre ‘d introduced themselves or explained the menu items at dinner time as was done on all other cruise lines I’ve been on. The cabin was a disgrace, it looked like a cheap motel room from 1980. The balcony was unusable as it smelled of paint and cigarette smoke. To sum up, if you’re looking for a decent cruise with good standards, pleasant staff, good food and a nice cabin, don’t even contemplate Costa. It was awful! Read Less

DO NOT BOOK any cruise with Costa! I have never experienced a company before that care so little for their customers. I should have known that it was going to be bad. Before we even set sail they were impossible to contact. They do not answer the phone or reply to any emails. All I wanted was some information, apparently even that is too much for them! They ship's decor is ugly and old. Do not expect anything special. Cabins are even worse. Ours was again old and ugly and not maintained properly. Mold in the shower and in the light fittings that were falling down. Scratches and chipping all over the units and fittings. What looked like a blood stain was on the out door mat, which was next to the bed. Couldn't open cupboard under the TV without hitting it, the design is terrible. The balcony was totally pointless. The view was totally obstructed by the life boat, if this was the case then why weren't we informed of this whilst booking. I would have paid the extra money. The balcony is also in terrible condition. I understand a boat's exterior must be repainted to maintain it but the paintwork was the worst I have ever seen. Paint splashes everywhere. It was just disgusting to look at. Oh and the disgusting passengers smoking on their balconies ruined it too, what a waste of money. Don't expect to ever see your steward, never saw him once on the whole holiday. Dinning is horrific!!! The worst food you could imagine! Expect a lower standard that school dinners with 'chefs' that have no idea what is going on. I was served pink chicken and not one single person in that whole restaurant cared. Even with me telling them that they could have killed someone who didn't see it i.e. the older or children. Absolutely disgusting, the reply I got was 'I'll get you a new one'. Do you really think I want a new one when you can't even acknowledge that this a problem? The rest of the buffet food I can't even describe. Just awful. They serve things like chicken curry and don't label it that it contains bones! What an awful surprise and again just as well I am of an age to cope with it! I dread to think what could happen with children. For the last 3 nights of the cruise I ate potatoes and cabbage for my dinner every night. Costa seem to want to spend as little as they possibly can on food, you won't find any fruit that is ripe or even has a taste. The queues in the buffet are spectacular, especially at lunch time! Expect to wait up to 20 mins to get the burgers and chips. Oh and the most shocking thing I thought for an Italian cruise ship, you won't get pizza or ice cream unless you pay a lot of extra money! Also expect the other passengers to behave like complete pigs, 90 of them are absolutely disgusting because staff let them do what they like. Like I said no one cares. You can go and sit with you shoes on and put your feet all over the tables. What an appetising site. Don't expect to get a seat in the buffet dining ever! Also don't expect staff to help you find a seat. They will shrug their shoulders and walk away from you. I think the experience in the proper dining room is even worse. Expect to get shoved on a table with total strangers. Thanks Costa for again ruining my holiday with this! I don't know these people!!! I don't want to sit with them and make small talk!! The waiters will not explain the menu to you, you will have to decipher it yourself and try and get some sense out of them! Now for the best thing! All of the food on this menu comes from frozen! Nothing on it is fresh! And the staff on board will rave about this restaurant, it's amazing! NO IT'S NOT! It is terrible! The weirdest food you have ever seen cooked extremely poorly! A poached egg is a pumpkin cream, and that was the best thing on the menu. It's a nightmare. And there is no tea or coffee after your meal, and no will come and tell you that. We sat at our table for 30 minutes and no waiter even came to ask us what we were waiting for. It is even worse at breakfast, they literally have no idea what is going on. My Mum sat for 30 mins waiting for them to actually bring her what she ordered while the wrong thing just sitting in front of her. 4 times I asked for a table for 4 and was given a table for 8! Stop putting strangers on a table it is disgusting when you don't want that! When you order a coke the staff do not inform you that it is Pepsi not coke. I don't drink Pepsi so I am not paying for that! Also if you order something like lemonade or Fanta then they will bring you a diet version without telling you, again I don't want to poison my body with sweeteners but they don't care! So... in case you haven't guessed, my biggest issue with Costa is their staff. Staff do not say hello or speak to passengers as they walk round the ship. They purposely avoid you, it's disgusting. Lower level employees I actually feel a bit sorry for as they are just not trained. The people that work in the restaurants and bars have no clue. The bar staff kept walking past us not taking our order even though we were literally the only people there. There is never any cutlery available at the buffet and if you ask someone to refill it they will huff at you. Oh I am sorry I am asking you to do your job. The restaurant staff will pointblank refuse to meet your needs and any Costa staff eating in the restaurant will barge in front of you and I saw a woman shoved out of the way whilst getting cutlery. God help you if you have some sort of food allergy! I think Costa will try and kill you. I saw a young boy try to find out if there was mushrooms in a pasta and the staff couldn't answer him. Staff all stand and smoke openly of the lower deck. It is absolutely disgusting! People in chefs whites standing smoking in front of passengers, I dread to think of the kitchen hygiene if they think this is acceptable. Don't try and get any information about practicing your muster station, no one knew and we spent 2 hours waiting in our cabin. The next day we got the rudest letter telling us it is illegal for us not to do it! What on earth?! We tried to find this information out for hours. You are disgusting Costa, you need to learn how to treat your customers. The spa staff are so annoying, all they do is try and sell you treatments that are 6 times the price you would pay in a fancy hotel. They will accost you everyday. The worst staff are the ones that work on reception. Don't even bother standing in the queue for 20 mins to speak to them. They look at you like it is a hassle for them to even talk to you. Most of the answers they give will be a shrug and a blasé attitude. It is absolutely disgusting. In fact, it got the point that I was close to tears as I was so frustrated with them. All I wanted was an explanation but I got an answer of phoning when I get home! How can I do that when no one answers! Costa claim that all staff are fluent in English. They are not. If you ask them anything other than what is usual they will not have a clue what you are talking about. Frustrating does not even explain this. This is my biggest complaint of all, Costa do not know how to say sorry. Noyt a single staff member said sorry once. Never. They are not capable of this. They are robots that only care about themselves. How miserable we were every day was actually laughable. We spent so long complaining everyday that my family were bored of it and we had to make a pact to not complain to each other! I think that lasted 10 minutes! It was just one thing after another. It literally did not stop 24/7. Costa could not meet a single need on the whole holiday. It was like going from one ordeal to an other all day long. I am still so angry just thinking about it now. What a waste of £4500. On our return we managed to get an email address that would actually reply to us. Guess what?! They didn't care! Again no apology and basically denied everything that we told them. It is awful and so upsetting. They have absolutely no customer service. The emails were all copied and pasted and generally did not reply directly to what we said. Their grammar and spelling is awful too. Don't expect even coherent sentences or an address or sign off. No apology and no offer of even a little refund for what they put us through. Overall if you chose to have a holiday with Costa, Expect horrible staff Expect rude staff Expect untrained staff Expect rude passengers Expect terrible food Expect long queues Expect dirty rooms Expect balconies to have no views Expect to be angry 90% of the time EXPECT AN ORDEAL NOT A HOLIDAY! We chose this cruise because of the low cost. Unfortunately, the old saying...you get what you pay for....is totally true. First, the pros: Embarqment and disembarqment was quick and smooth. Specialty restaurants were very good. A couple of the shows were very good. Ship and rooms were clean but showing some wear. Now the cons: English was definitely the 2nd or 3rd language for the staff of they spoke it at all. All announcements were in italian, german, french and ,if lucky, english. No room service after 3:30 so no bed turn down. No wash clothes were available in the rooms. You had to ask for them daily. Toilet failed and took 4 hours to get repaired. Food in the buffet was same every day and very bland Dining room food overall very poor with exception being pasta options. Customer service desk always had long lines, up to an hour. Then the rep either didn't speak English or very poorly. Overall, it seemed that most employees were just "going thru the motions" . It created a negative attitude that even filtered to the passengers. Overall it just wasn't a fun time and it was Christmas! Read Less

I am not a seasoned cruiser, rather this was my second cruise to almost the same ports. We chose this cruise because the dates lined up with our vacation timeline. My first cruise experience was with Carnival. This is where my husband and I set expectations for this cruise were based on that experience from a year ago. We were continuously disappointed to learn everything we thought would be standard were up charges. We expected to have free room services, as is standard on Carnival. We did not. It was not explained to us when booking this cruise either. Food We expected there to be some sort of free food options available at all times. There was not. In fact, we boarded the cruise ship late (9:00 p.m.) and was stunned to learn that there were no free food options for us ... and that we would either have to pay additional fees or go hungry until breakfast. It was myself, my husband and two teenage sons. Drinks On the Carnival cruise we did not pay for a drink package but were fine with drinking water, milk and tea at any given time. On this cruise, we paid for a drink package (we were told it was an all-inclusive drink package, but soon learned it was only during meals.) We paid an additional 480$ and was told we would need to pay an additional 600$ for the all-inclusive dink package. The drink package we had was only during lunch and dinner (lunch we were on excursions all but two days.) And dinner in the restaurant meant beer was not included either. Times One afternoon we returned late from an excursion and rushed to the deck to get lunch/snack/ something. They had cleared all but one bar and there was a rope blacking it and we were not allowed to grab anything before they cleared it … we were told we could go to the opposite end of the ship to grab a salad. The lovely food was right there … and instead we ate salad. Again, this would have been ok, except we had eaten a salad the last two days for lunch as it was the only thing open once we returned from our day trips. Dinner was four hours later. Staffing This would not have been a big deal, except the tea, milk and water machines that were supposed to be up and running 24 hours a day we're not. Instead, we consistently had to hunt down someone to fill the machine. A majority of the time we were told it was not their job. In fact, that was the standard statement from most of the crew when asking for help. My husband went to find the big screen gaming for my teenager and each person he talked to gave him the same statement, “that is not my job.” Customer Service Our TV in our room did not work half the time … which is frustrating, because this is where you were expected to check your ship balance and find activities. The TV in our sons’ room did not work either. Their toilet overflowed. I thought maybe it was them until my toilet overflowed. Then I had a lady from the ship chew me out for putting facial tissue in the toilet. When I told her I had not done such a thing she called me a liar and said he had found facial tissue. I could not believe she was calling me a liar. I know what I packed. Activities There were not enough deck chairs and activities for visitors while out to see … people circled like hawks looking for a place to sit down. The pool was tiny and did not allow enough room for kids and adults to hang out. The variety and timing of activities were also limited. Communications While on Carnival, we were able to communicate with each other through their free app. Additionally we were able to see daily schedules, and excursion times using the app. We were also able to see what time we needed to return to the ship via the app. These were all HUGE misses during this trip. Having had been on 10+ cruises before (Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian, MSC) I have to say that this cruise line is the worst when it comes to customer service. Travelers used to good customer service should not sail with Costa. We sailed as a family for New Years 2018, and while we had a good vacation overall, it certainly was not due to the staff aboard the Costa Deliziosa. It felt like not only were they understaffed at all times, every day; but the staff was also grumpy - felt like they were just there to get the job done and get their paycheck. While you can see the details of our experience below, overall, I would not want to sail Costa again, or would recommend it to any American friends, or anyone that expects decent customer service. So here we go with the detailed review: ~~~Let's start with some general good things I liked about the experience: + Boarding process was very quick (both on the first day, as well as when we got off/on at the various islands). + For international passengers, they do a good job at making the announcements in various languages (it's obnoxious as they get longgg, but good for those that speak something other than English or Italian) + Bags were delivered very promptly on both the first day, as well as the departure date. + While the variety of food wasn't doing it for us, the quality of the food was really good compared to other ships. + A lot of great live music throughout the ship every night / they have a lot of bars + Drinks package and upgrade to the middle tier package was worth it. Lots of drinking throughout the week. + Mobile app with free chatting (only available for iPhone) was very useful to find each other on the ship as well as to see the the daily planner. ~~~But the list of bad things outweighs the good one: - The temperature in the ship was borderline hot, especially in the gym. Couple of times I had to step outside to get some fresh air. - On port days, despite having odd port hours they did not adjust the schedule for the buffet. At one particular port there was a 20+ minute line to get... Salad, since it was the only available thing. - Rooms in the back of the ship vibrate a lot. One particulate night the vibration was so strong that when you sat on the toilet it felt like you were in a massage chair. Alternatively, you could also get a free shaking massage while laying in bed as the vibration is equally as strong there. - Calling room service or customer service was futile - you were placed in a permanent hold without anyone ever answering. After spending 20+ minutes one day, I discovered that the call is never answer. The trick? If placed on hold, hang up and try again until a human answers the phone. Why even have a hold system them? -- If you managed to get through the line for room service, you'll be playing a guessing game of whether the food will arrive or not. One particular night we placed an order that never arrived. I was too tired to call back and have them deliver it after waiting 45 minutes. - No ironing on board, which is standard in most cruise lines. We decided to send a couple of clothes to the dry cleaner to get them ironed. We requested same day delivery, and at 6PM nothing had arrived. I had to call to have someone go check and get them, and I was told that the clothes deliver only starts at 6PM (keep in mind, first sitting for dinner is 6PM). Seems like same day service is not viable in most cases. - Room is only serviced once a day - no turndown service, or change of towels in the afternoon. - The buffet: in general they had a very european selection of food which wasn't my favorite, but I knew what I was signing up for when going on an european cruise line. - Pool towels: They do not have a place where you can go exchange your towels. They apparently come around every evening knocking on your door and asking if you need fresh pool towels. Well..... We must have never been in the room around the time they came because we never got that option. Not only that, after I once called to get fresh pool towels, they were never delivered. - While they had an iPhone mobile all, they didn't have an Android equivalent. The iOS app, which we installed on the embarkation day, also decided that it needed an update midway through the cruise and kept bugging you about updating (hello? no wifi!) it every time you opened it. ~~~Special mention to the TERRIBLE evening dinning experience The first day was bad. We had three rooms under the same reservation, and they sat some of us together, and some of us in a different table.... After talking to the maître d' they fixed the issue on the second day. And things got worse... The second day was terrible. Our waiter was extremely rude*. He was just rushing to get our orders, rolling his eyes at my grandparents for taking long time to choose, and brought the wrong food (and tried to force us to eat it before fixing the issue). It was so ridiculous that I had to call the maître d' over to talk to him about his attitude. After this incident, on the third day things started to get better after being assigned a new waiter. Our waiter was ok when it came to his attitude, but the issues with the food continued. Between courses it would take a good 20-30 minutes before the next course arrived. Dinner usually lasted two and a half to three hours every night. Not only that, but in between courses the servers would not refill your water or wine unless you managed to flag them down. One night I didn't like my meal, so I sent it back and asked for another meal. The waiter continued to bring the rest of the meals, and brought my food after bringing my dessert.... *note that we later realized that the reason why service was so slow and the waiters were so bad is because they're understaffed. On most cruises you get a waiter and an assistant waiter. This cruise line only has one waiter per table which makes the entire process extremely slow. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it suited the dates we wanted to be away. The Good: The ship and cabin were nice and clean. The Staff in general work so hard!! They have so much energy!! We really appreciate their enthusiasm! We enjoyed the shows and had great time at the Mirabilis bar. New Year's Eve was a blast! The Bad: Food was very plain, every day at the lunch buffet, they offered the same thing, over and over. The meat, chicken, and pork were dry and lacked of flavor. In the restaurant, the menu contained choices that really didn't jump on your eye. Nothing interesting or tasty. We didn't get the chance to pick our time for dinner when booking the cruise. We requested it to be changed and never heard back. We didn't book it directly, but we registered on their website to pick some excursions. We never received any formal communication on the time of embarking and/or what to expect. We would have appreciated some details before hand. Two of our excursions were canceled due to the wind at a very last minute, and the "excursion desk" was closed for business. We couldn't find any alternatives. The data plan was a bust... again not entirely clear what you were getting. The drink plan was decent. But sparkling water nor water of any kind was included. As other reviewer said, you get what you pay for. The crew and social staff were wonderful, but because of the food and lack of communication we unfortunately won't go with Costa again. Read Less

Initially chosen for the price......and as we live in Florida very easy access. I always read cruise critic and in most cases have agreed in general with the comments. I admit I was a bit concerned about this cruise from reviews I had read....prior to the cruise. Embarkation was quick and went very smoothly..we arrived at the port about 12 noon. Dropped our bags, parked the car and walked into the terminal and after a very brief scan of luggage and person onto the ship. photos were made as we entered the main area of the ship on deck 2. The ship is beautifully maintained ...artwork and colors were very tastefully done in an Italian baroque architecture style. Note: All announcements were made in multiple languages with the primary in Italian...then onto English, French,Spanish,German...etc. I found this a nice touch as it made us feel we were farther away than the Caribbean is to us as Florida residents. We were then directed to the buffet are on deck 9 for lunch. It was quite good with a large variety of hot and cold dishes. After lunch we did a bit of exploration then headed to our cabin. We had a basic balcony cabin which was very nice, bathroom and room about standard for most balconies we have encountered..but pleasantly surprised by a long ,comfortable leather sofa for seating area. The balcony was very nicely sized and had comfortable seating as well as a table for drinks or snacks. Our balcony was fully covered and felt very private. Dining was a choice of traditional first or second seating or the buffet. (No anytime/flexible dining on this ship) We had been assigned the second seating which was at 8:45 PM...at a table for 8. Our table mates were quite enjoyable and we looked forward to the evening meal. The entertainment was terrific...great singers and dancers....good quality shows. We even had the opportunity to be entertained by an Italian tenor who was magnificent. He had such a beautiful voice and he sang both modern tunes and opera..it was such an emotional performance. The activities team was really enthusiastic and great at getting the passengers involved in many things from singing, dancing to exercise and games on the pool deck. This was a very talented group of young men and women. Super friendly staff and highly visible around the ship. The Captain and officers were highly visible and frequently joined in with events about the ship. Service was excellent and the quality was as well. Our cabin steward was great and met our every need. The ports were very familiar to us as we do a lot of Caribbean cruising so we opted to stay on the ship the entire trip. This turned out to be a great choice..lots to see and do, The main pool on the Lido deck has a retractable roof so we were very comfortable even with not so perfect weather. There was a large back deck on Lido as well with restaurant seating and another pool. On New Years Eve we went to specialty dining in the outdoor restaurant for lobster and champagne...again fabulous with a live band playing reggae. Lots of comfortable seating all over the ship..so Sea days were not an issue. Loved the Casino, very bright and laid out nicely, Good variety of tables and slots for everyone to enjoy and "non-smoking" at all times. I wish every ship had this policy. We are not smokers but the designated areas seemed to be located so as to provide minimal contact with the general areas....even on the open decks. We were not traveling with children but there were many vacationing families on board. There appeared to be many programs for all ages and they had a Captain and Princess for a day program that was adorable. On the last night at sea they had a special reception in the main salon especially for the children...the boys were dressed in the Captains uniforms and the little girls in beautiful gowns, They had a small parade into the room, were each introduced to the audience and then had a special dance with their parent. It was a lovely event. Disembarkation was a breeze....we did walk off...gathered at the ramp exit on deck 2 at 6:20 am as instructed the day before...by 6:35 we were headed off the ship..thru terminal and in our car by 6:45. Amazing! Looking forward to another COSTA cruise in the very near future. Read Less

My daughter and her family included me as a whole family Christmas vacation. None of us had ever been in a cruise before. We loved every minute of it. We loved our dining room experience. Service was impeccable by Joseph. My cabin was always clean and neat. Irwandi was extremely friendly and polite. He was eager to help with anything. The rest of my family had the same experience. We loved the shows and really enjoyed the piano man who was above and behind the bar in the main lobby. He had an amazing voice! Every night after dinner we sat there, had a few cocktails and enjoyed the music. We also made some new friends! We had a problem with the boys, ages 14-20. Their wasn’t really any type of entertainment for them. We learned everything was being setup for Peppa Pig. The arcade was closed and everything was focused on much younger kids. Our boys got bored. They said they still had s great time but they did get bored. Our trips to the stops were enjoyable. We did not get to do any of the excursions. We had a catamaran scheduled, but it was cancelled due to weather. We had another let down when we got to Miami, our airboat tour was sold out. We had some weather issues, high winds, some rain, but you can’t control the weather. When we had to leave the ship in Miami and wait to return to the ship...wow! That wasn’t well thought out. The majority should not have to wait for hours to get back onboard because some people did not obey the rules. We sat quietly but as the wait got longer, the people who had been there for a very long time got pretty rowdy. There was shouting, yelling, booing as the late stragglers finally made their way off the ship. Something should be done about this. Some financial penalty should be issued to those stragglers. All in all we did have a great cruise. One of my grandsons and I practiced Italian with the app on my iPhone. We all decided that being on a ship that was not American was interesting and fun. We got to experience so many different things. Oh, our cruise plans were made about 2 weeks before we left. It was a complete surprise to me because it was a Christmas gift for me. It was a good one!! Read Less
