If our taste buds could make memories, we will have to get some therapy because our one and only meal on board left a horrible taste in our mouth. Everywhere we looked for lunch was deep fried , frozen or just not great Chefs who specialise in food would not be involved in this display of un healthy food. Carnival you really have to change the photos of the food and the description you are not telling us the whole story. This would have to be the worst food we have ever been offered. After walking round all the food court food outlets we made the decision to leave the ship before it set sail to Sydney for our health If taste buds can make memories, yours will savour your Carnival cruise for years. Step aboard and enjoy everything from anytime casual dining to multi-course degustation meals. This was my first cruise and probably the last one. To start with when we arrived we were not told that the bags could be checked in and taken to the rooms when it was ready later. The room was not available until 2 pm. We had a check in time of 1130-1200. The service form the start was terrible. We were not informed of any of the events that were planned for the cruise. We missed the clue game, that ran for the entirety of the cruise. I am a disabled veteran and I was trying to get the priority boarding. I was not able to get this and even when I was there and talking to the Carnival representatives, the only answer is that we can get a wheel chair. This is not the issue. What i needed was time to be able to get on and off, not in the crush of people. A sign we should have recognized as the beginning of the worst vacation customer service we have ever had. The first 2 days the trip was miserable as you could not walk around without wobbling because the ship was so turbulent. There never was any announcement or mention as to what was going on, or saying that we apologize for the roughness and let us do something to make it better. The room was small and run down. The bed was supposed to be a king but would not pass for a queen. The remote would not work. The ship as a whole looked tire and rundown and in need of maintenance. The food was mediocre at best. The hot food was not hot and the cold food was not cold. The plates and silverware was often dirty. The tables were constantly dirty and we had to move the dishes and things so we could sit down. The tables when cleaned was with a cloth, no sanitation spray was used. The serves were touching their face with the gloves and not changing them before serving food. Even the Posh Restaurant was simply OK. All of the steak was choice steak not prime rib or otherwise stated. To find clean silverware you had to check at least 4 sets. Overall not memorable food, even Guy's Burger Bar was not that good or up to my food standards. The best meal of the trip ended up being the BBQ place. Even that was simply OK. The pool was very small and always packed with kids. The kids were in the hot tub constantly and getting them dirty with orbees and other items just thrown in the hot tubs. When this was brought to the stewards attention, there was nothing done about it. There were teenagers running around throughout the ship at all hours of the day. The shore excursions was another aspect of disappointment. The one had a snorkeling session. The session was less than 45 minutes and then they were worried about getting us back to the shops. The focus seemed to be about shopping and not the excursion and some shopping on the side. It seemed to be that the on-board shopper was getting some money back for getting us into the stores as that was the primary focus for 2 of the 3 excursions. That is truly not what we were vacationing for. Once back on the ship we talked to guest services. The excursion manager was quite rude and explained that all of the excursions with water activities was 15-45 minutes. This was not in the magazine description whatsoever. Cleanliness was also a disappointment. My children went to Camp Ocean once and only once. There was over 1500 kids there. There was 2 attendants for over 70 children 6-8 years old. There were several that threw up due to sea sickness. The way they cleaned it up was by placing a towel over the spots. There was limited activities, no drinks or snacks. It took us almost 2 hours in line to pick them up afterwards. Smoke was also an issue. There was smoking on level 5 of the ship. You could still smell it several decks above. All of the music and entertainment, pictures and so on was on this level. This was extremely disappointing as we like to play games and listen to music. Something you could not do without putting up with second hand smoke the entire time. We were also conned by the on-board shopper. The man could pass for a modern day snake oil salesman. All of the savings that he supposedly had lined up were lies. We never received them even with the coupons. Also after the shore excursions were completed he conveniently disappeared for the remainder of the cruise home. When addressed with guest services we were told that we would have to speak to corporate. They simply passed the buck and did not care. The final insult to this disappointing trip was the debarkation process. We were all kicked out or our rooms at 830 am. We were then told to stay on the 5th floor or the 9th floor. They also did not limit the smoking for this process. so the smokers were puffing away. I am sensitive to this and it causes my sinuses to become swollen and painful. I would not use carnival if you value your health, happiness, money, or time. They do not care and are only looking to make money and your need and desires comes dead last. Read Less

First of all this is an OLD boat that sounded like it was losing parts along the way. We paid for a window room. The window had barnacles, paint spots and dirt, therefore we could hardly see thru it. The food was disgusting and tasted old. With the coronavirus going around they did take precautions by not allowing anyone to serve themself at the buffet which was a good thing. The excursion we pre paid for was a complete misleading false ad. We were stranded on a little beach and we had to plead with the staff to plse take us back to the boat. I would never travel carnival again. I would definitely travel to orlando an cruise with norweign or royal carribean. Carnival has turned into the dollar general of cruise ships. Seemed like all they cared about was selling you something on this old boat. The staff were nice, but didnt understand much english Read Less

Ship needs refurbishment badly. Rips, tears and holes in furniture throughout. Stained, dirty upholstery. Ripped, stained, faded flooring throughout. Chipped and peeling paint throughout. Broken window in the Silver dining room. Decor is very old, odd colors, strange designs. Water shut off during lunch hours two days into the trip for floors 8&9. 9 is Lido, the buffet. Sewer problem 1st floor. Oceanview rooms are on floors 1 & 2. Staff party hard with loud, thumping music, yelling and cheering until the wee hours 1am, 2:30 am. Their game room is mid ship, floor zero. So if you have a midship Oceanview room, good luck getting any sleep. Had to complain several times. Customer service is poor and many of them are seen walking around doing nothing or cutting up. A select few staff tried really hard to correct what the others lacked. Breakfast service and evening dining service in the Silver dining room was enjoyable. Staff were efficient. They could do without showtime because it just interrupts the dinner experience. They could really do away with elegant night. Not many people dress up anymore because most people vacation to relax. Pool areas were relatively clean. Photographers are pushy especially in the walkway on the 5th floor next to the casino. I felt like we were in Nassau being harassed to take photos. We didn’t care to have a photographer walking around the dining room trying to take pictures while we were attempting to eat. Lido buffet was always organized and clean. Food was good. Except for the barbecue upstairs. It was terrible-dry, greasy, overcooked. Overall the ship is ok. The staff needs to be trained in customer service. She ship needs the 2.0 upgrade and dry dock overhall. Read Less

Of the seven cruises this was the worst, no recognition for past cruisers in captain party. No update on current carnival status. Just two free bottles of water. Went to dinner in at our time 8:15 was so turned off by staff. Food was terrible, staff was rude. We ate rest of time I On Alito deck same food each day. Yuck. Bartender in lobby bar was rude and down right ugly to me and several other customers. Didn't like working cause Costa Maya port cancellation due to weather. No corvid19 testing or checking just health form. Only good things cabin steward were excellation and very personal. Activities director Juana from buffalo by. Was one of the best we seen. Shows were not of carnival ranking we have been on before. Why were we not inform of covid19 at cozemel prior to the cruise. 1st case was found in Mexico city on 28 Feb our cruise date was 2-7 mar. Several crew demonstrated very rude and disrespectful attitudes to us and other people. Ship needs a complete cleaning. Rust on outside in several emergency boat launchers and noticed on ship in a lot of places. Our first cruise was on the non smoking ship paradise. That was in 2001. Back then carnival gave little pins with the ship name on them. That was a cruise. Read Less

Close to home, part of a group we have travelled on many times (Princess, Cunard, P & O International & Holland America), but this was all so different. Before we left we received an email that stated there would be extra health checks, what a joke, we signed a piece of paper & we were on board. Our biggest shock was there was no hand sanitation enforcement, didn't happen until the last few days of the cruise, and that was hit & miss, outside the dining room no-one supervising & many people just walked past. Overcrowded, terrible dress code, even on Elegant night in the dining room had to suffer bogans dressed in muscle shirts, board shorts & rubber thongs. Sorry I don't want to share a meal with hairy armpits. Met some lovely families with young kids who wouldn't even let their kids in the pool LOL We were on a cruise to the tropics. PS: it was not school holidays! Children running unsupervised everywhere putting themselves & others at risk, children were served soft drinks at the Casino Bar sitting on stools in the evening. No lounge bar was opened for pre dinner drinks, never saw the bar operating once in 10 days in the Cool Lounge, Piano Bar only open for about an hour later (after dinner). Won't go on any more, guess you have the picture, so I'll add some good things. Our room stewards were great, only do the room once a day, but that was okay. Good waiters & the food was okay, just restricted. Loved the singing waiters, and we booked a Ocean Suite but was upgraded to a Grand suite. The suite was huge with lots of cupboard space, spotlessly clean, a bit dated but every thing worked. Read Less

Hey everyone I just want to share my one and only cruise with carnival. At the beginning of March we made a spur of the moment decision to try out a cruise for a small get away. We booked our cruise and after that everything just went down hill. Prior to our cruise we booked our VIP dolphin swim, paid gratuities, ordered and paid for our alcohol, I ordered us an anniversary cake to be delivered on the last night of the cruise. So let’s start from the beginning we boarded on the seventh deck which just so happen to be the same floor our room was located. We got The ocean view stateroom. So after boarding the ship we had to wait until 1:30 to get our room which was fine. We get to the room my luggage is there but my boyfriends is not. We wait until 4:30 still no luggage, 6:30 comes around still no luggage 8:30 comes around still no luggage, this went on until 12:39 am. When finally a random stranger brings us our luggage in the middle of the night and says he found it in his room. So our first day we did not to enjoy the hot tub he was still wearing jeans. They gave him a t shirt and said we would get 20% off of the gift shop for his luggage. Okay so thankfully we got his luggage in the middle of the night. So everything else was okay until our shore excursion day..... well guess what the. VIP dolphin swim we booked with snorkeling and kayaking and water boarding - we find out as we are literally heading to do it they cancelled all water activities except swimming with dolphins. We were supposed to leave at 9:30 we didn’t leave until about 10:15 so that is 45 minutes we were practically cheated out of out of a 4 hour excursion. Then we swim with the dolphins everything was great went and ate lunch and listened to a sales pitch at our lunch for photos then 10 minutes later it was 1:00 and it was time to head back to the boat. So we check with check with guest services and due to us being aware of the water cancellations we get No sort of compensation. Basically what I’m saying is if you want to be screwed over. Cruise with carnival. So back to the cake we ordered for our anniversary. It was pretty cheap. I got the chocolate heart cake that was supposed to say “happy anniversary” and we got a white circle cake with the letters “HA” idk if that’s supposed to mean “happy anniversary” or “haha we screwed y’all over”. The entertainment was great. Food was not what we expected but it was tolerable. I called them to just give feed back. They don’t want to hear it. Today I was taking to a lady about the cake they totally got wrong... they wouldn’t even refund me back on a 11.00 cake they messed up!!!!! Just because we signed a shore excursion ticket we don’t get back anything for the 45 minutes they screwed us out of. Not including all the water activities they cancelled. They are totally not worth cruising with. I would rather just stay at a resort and spend my money knowing I will be treated the right way. Because at a resort it is about QUALITY not QUANITY, and we were treated just the opposite on carnival fantasy cruise. Oh and I forgot to tell you all the bathroom smelled horrific in our cabin. We Chose this ship as we were under the impression that after having a recent refit etc and having been on Carnival Legend we actually thought Splendor would be great, how mistaken were we. The embarkation and disembarkation processes were not too bad but they were the only good things. The whole boat was filthy when we first boarded and when we got to our cabin we had asked for two single beds and a double bed was made up, when the double was seperated and i went back into the cabin I stood on a rather large hair pin left by a previous passenger. I tried to find the stateroom steward to no avail and only saw him twice fleetingly on a seven day cruise.Four days before our cruise we were advised that Isle of Pines was closed,(the Australian Government had posted this information a week and a half to two weeks prior) so we would be going to Moreton Island, when we got there we were told we could not go ashore as the weather was too bad but they still launched at least five tenders which all passengers could see thus if the weather was too bad they were putting their own crews lives in danger. It was learned later that for at least four previous cruises nobody could get ashore at Moreton Island so why go there. The food in the Lido Bistro was lukewarm at best and the service was non existent, bar and waiter service was also nonexistent and there were children playing poker machines in the casino and staff had to be told but it still happened all day every day. The serenity lounge was overcrowded and there was also a group of girls flashing their breasts at everybody, these same girls were later seen on the smoking deck pole dancing and flashing in front of elderly passengers and children, it was also noticed that there may also been some nudity photos of these girls taken. There were fights onboard every night to which the security seemed indifferent and the same can be said about the underage drinking that went on and if Carnival have a responsible serving of alcohol policy then they don't on Splendor. There are many, many more things i could put up on here but they would take up too much room. And before anybody ask there were complaints made and ignored Read Less

They said we had to turn around.we never left the dock! Oh and we couldn’t eat and the pool and two front jacuzzis were not working because they “hit a storm” coming back and things weren’t working. we left the port at 6pm with half a motor working. They skipped amber cove and only gave us 50$ back. The whole trip was horrible food was awful. Our floor always smelled like diarrhea. We docked on time and they set sail for next cruise! Easily the worst vacation either myself or my girlfriend had been on. For the most part we were treated pretty poorly. Room service never came the first morning with breakfast even though they called us with a question about our order then just never delivered it. We didn't get a card for the 2nd morning room service. 3rd morning after I made a complaint, we did get a card and got the room service for breakfast but when it was delivered, it was already cold. Not even lukewarm... Just plain cold. After failed with room service the first morning (and also the 2nd and 3rd and each morning after that we just gave up), we went for breakfast at the Sunshine Restaurant. One of either mine or my girlfriend's orders would be messed up. She would order, for example, French Toast and then I would order French Toast as well AFTER her. When they brought over our meals, they would bring me french toast and nothing for her. This happened with different foods each morning and by the end, just accepted whatever we got and stopped correcting the wait staff - absolutely ridiculous. This was in addition to the fact that my girlfriend was basically invisible to anybody who worked on the ship. Our stateroom steward, as ONE example, would quite literally scream my name from down the hall to say "Hi" but rarely ever even acknowledge her even though she was right next to me every time. Similarly in the Sunrise restaurant for breakfast and other places as well. In Grand Turk, our ATV excursion got cancelled and nobody told us until after we showed up for it. Apparently we were supposed to receive a letter when we got on board saying it was cancelled and were never supposed to receive our tickets for the excursion. Well, we received the tickets and when we were told that the excursion was cancelled after we showed up for it, we were also told that all other excursions had already been booked and there was nothing they could do. That was an entire vacation day wasted because even on the ship during the day there weren't many activities going on as it was a port day. The port days and excursions are the main reason we love cruising so much. The one and ONLY consistent and good experience we had was dinner. The food was OK, but what really made dinner was our waiter, Wijaya. He treated us very well, recommended dishes, got to know us and what we like/don't like and adjusted food and drink recommendations based on that. He was literally the best part of our cruise. Even the entertainment was at best OK, but variety was lacking in the evening and as much as I love trivia, having a host that has absolutely no interest or knowledge in the themed trivia that they are hosting is just plain disappointing and frustrating (Harry Potter trivia and Game of Thrones trivia as two major examples). Whereas The Office trivia was hosted by two people who clearly LOVE the TV show "The Office". I'm not saying every host needs to love everything, but it would be better to cancel or not have a themed trivia when the host is very obviously not interested in what they are doing and are clearly there just because it's their job and want to move on to whatever is next. Tacky decor, way too much pink. The ship was meant to have been recently refurbed but I don't know what they refurbed because things in the rooms were broken (lamps, bedside tables). The mirror in the bathroom had been moved however the old holes werent patched. The staff were not friendly, apart from the cabin staff and the 3 staff we had in the dining room. The food was absolutely awful. Only 4 options of salad and mains in the bistro and a lot of the food was tasteless and cold. The bistro had 4 sections but they all had the same food. However the chocolate soft serve was amazing and tasted just like a chocolate paddlepop. The dining room had almost the same menu as the bistro. The ship is not easy to navigate and we often got lost, especially trying to get to the dining room as you have to take multiple lifts and walk to the other end of the ship. We cruised to tasmania and it was incredibly rough on the way there, so bad so that they had to cancel our port in Port Arthur. Stayed docked overnight in Hobart. Tasmania was beautiful. We asked about getting off to fly home but were told we werent allowed to, even though we were still in Australia it was an international cruise line. Thankfully it was much smoother on the way back so we were able to enjoy it more. Would not recommend this cruiseline to anyone and will not be sailing with them again. Read Less

This ship can NOT. Handle rough seas. Very frightening. Loud banging ceiling falling down. Scary and unpleasant. Mild seas were fine but we hit a significant storm with winds hitting between 43 and 66 kts. And a very roiling sea. This ship felt as though it was going to break apart. Heat and air stopped working. We had ambulatory assessable room. Plenty of room for ecv. But has step to very small balcony. Room has no chair to sit in. Just two step stool type blocks to sit on. Great for ambulatory handicapped but not for completely wheel chair dependent. Many hallway and corridors too narrow for wheelchairs. Very few handicapped bathrooms. Better to go back to your cabin bathroom. The layout of the ship is odd. Having to go through Lounges or smoky casino to get to restaurants is weird Quality of food awful. Even the pay restaurants were sub par. Buffet meh and always crowded. Or cabin was 6017. Not a bad size but a wheelchair would be very tight. Sturdy pull down shower seat. This is most definitely a party cruise. You do not walk into a beautiful atrium you step right into a tacky huge loud bar with tons of drunk people even though they had only just boarded a few hours earlier Entertainment was very subpar. In every way I loved having this being a younger crowd and lots of families and children. But the amount of drunkenness was disappointing. Also unsupervised kids in the 13-14 range were loud roaming and running in the hallways and running into people and small children Their are many reasons for not cruising with carnival sunshine but for me the mist disturbing thing was the very poor way the ship handled a serious storm. I must say though that EVERY crew member I encountered was pleasant and very helpful. Some went way out of their way to help me. And since I am handicapped and was traveling alone this trip that was was greatly appreciated. Lol I wish I could have many of the crew members on a better ship. Read Less

What a piece of junk! Needs refurbished, or at least fixed. I never thought it possible for a cruise ships food to be so terrible. The biscuits resembled hardtack not actual biscuits. The crew is either complete novices, or imbeciles. Dining service was cold and had no feeling. Food was terrible. The breakfast buffet was yesterday's leftovers, and the breakfast brunch in Washington dining room was even worse if possible. Tried an egg benedict and it was a soft boiled egg still mostly in the shell on a piece of ham smothered in a yellow gravy that only resembled hollandaise. The cabin was nice. Had a deck 1 porthole. However, some exhaust fan on the crew deck had a broken blade or something that banged against the hull of the ship all night making it nearly impossible to sleep. Overall the service was not up to a typical cruise standard. Perhaps the saddest thing is that Carnival used to have a reputation of being a fun ship. Now it is a sad ship. Entertainment was non existent. Everything in the Ivanhow theater was about shopping excursions, or sales on the ship. How can you take a game such as beer pong and make it so boring that everyone leaves? Sad. Drinks are just water. Food is cold and inedible. Service is non existent. Ports of call, Cozumel is fine. Progresso is a crap town. Took over 1 1/2 hours on a bus to get to merida Centro and stll not much to see. Carnival nickels and dimes every single thing and the cruise director kevin/devin/gavin whatever his name was only cared about selling more crap onboard. Ship felt loud noisy during a bad storm part of ceiling came down. Stateroom 6017. On the bow. Not a good place during a severe storm Ambulatory assessable cabin was decent sized and easily fit my ecv. But not in the bathroom step out to the balcony. Food average entertainment meh. Definitely a partiers Cruise. Lots of very drunk people. Passing out drunks Nothing to do of value education or interest. Just beer pong and hairy chest contests. Etc. meh But the worst was feeling that the ship was not safe in a severe storm. The loud banging and whistling wind and part of the ceiling coming down during a thirty hour storm. Very scary and miserable. I tried to call about the piece of ceiling that fell down but never had the phone answered. So I ventured down to the cruise desk and they were very nonchalant they just said to tell the cabin steward and he would contact the electrician. Well I did and nothing ever happened. So I told them again in the morning and same answer so I just disembarked. Nothing else I could do. Carnival is a crummy company. My husband and I just went on our honeymoon to Mexico on the Carnival Valor. The service provided by the crew was absolutely amazing but there are things to know about the cruise itself before deciding to go. My biggest problem was all the hidden fees. Before we even got on the ship they took a $100 deposit out of our account and then after the cruise is over you have to pay for expensive gratuities and port taxes and they WILL NOT let you off the ship until you’ve paid them. Also PLEASE don’t go unless you have money in your wallet. The first stop at Cozumel you can’t go to ANY beach without walking for hours unless you get a taxi or rent a scooter. I would HIGHLY recommend shore excursions that way you have a sure way to get where you want/need to go. The ship itself did not have much to do (aside from drink alcohol). Its definitely a good place to go if you like alcohol. They have plenty of it. I will say that room service was AMAZING as were most ALL of the crew members. They are all kind and accommodating and want you to have a good time. The actual restaurants on the ship have really good food but the buffets are not very good at all (especially dessert). We wish we would have stayed in an Airbnb or resort instead. Like I said it’s a good place if you’re older or you drink alcohol. Also I would recommend going to a less touristy part of Mexico. Even while we were on the beach, people were pressuring us and yelling at us to buy things or get massaged. Read Less

I have been on many cruises - all have been Carnival except I 2. I always choose Carnival because they are "FUN". We chose The Breeze for the itinerary. Truely wish I had stuck to a smaller ship. Not sure if the size of the ship accounts for the poor quality of food, poor service and lack of "FUN" on the Lido Deck. But this was only the minor part of disappointment. The Breeze has festering mold and whatever else in their air system. If it had only been my husband that had major and I do mean major upper respiratory issues - I would account it to his allergies - but reading all the number of upper respiratory issues Guests had on this cruise - it has to be something in their air system. They can't be oblivious to the fact they have an issue - and it is sad that Carnival doesn't do something about it so their Guests don't get sick. We did what we could - we changed rooms with our friends thinking it was the Lysol I sprayed to disinfect the room (yes I use Lysol at home and it doesn't bother my husband), the problem did not go away. We finally stopped room cleaning after the 2nd day hoping that would help - it did not. The only thing that helped was getting off the Ship. I was sick on both sea days - but I do have an open mind - and am accounting it to rough seas and sea sickness. Even reading the number of people who were sick outside of respiratory issues I will still say it was rough seas. I have never written a bad review about Carnival in all the sailings I have taken with them - so I am not one to just write a bad review. This is not to bash Carnival - it honestly is to hopefully stop other Guests from getting seriously ill on their cruise. As I said - the sub par food, lack of "FUN" we have always had on the Lido Deck and the not so happy staff may be accounted to the size of the Ship. Not sure how it can be - but it always hard to manage anything when the Staff grows in size - so I will account this part to the size of the ship. Will I sail on Carnival again - yes - will I sail on the Breeze - absolutely NOT until it goes into complete refurbishment or they cancel a sailing and thoroughly clean their air system and replace carpets etc. We all know this is not going to happen since they will loose revenue and have pissed off Guests who's sailing gets cancelled - so my recommendation is................sail on another cruise line or a different Carnival Ship. Friend selected cruise. She had been on carnival spirit. Horrible. Horrendous. Scrap assault. Food poisoning and food pressure. All of us. Drinks taking varnish off tables. Bad behaviour. Bad food and alcohol. Lack of security. Boss food. No information tool third day. Terrible planning of the ship. Nothing to do. But drink. Eat food that is killing you. Aggression on the boat. Thinking food drink and whatever they were using to clean the cups plates. No vegetarian gluten free options. Msg in the food. Best thing. Comfy beds getting off. Again I thank the universe I didn't take my son. Children young ones. Children touched everything. Do yourself a favour and never go on this ship. It was my first, scared me for any travel ever again on a cruise. My boyfriend's first and last. Nightmare. I feel terrible. My friend organised this cruise. One chess board. Slides kids didn't even ride. Boat rocked in call waters. Crew had no idea. People trying crew like garbage. I felt trapped as in jail with people that fight. Group of men hit on and beat up others. Man cut his girlfriend's face with glass. Kids in adult section with smoking. This is a nightmare of a cruise. Read Less

Wanted to give it a try have always gone on royal Caribbean. Service terrible food even worse. We had a suite 7245. The toilet would not work tv didn’t work door handle to deck was falling off. They would constantly try and sell u shots and trinkets worse than the streets in Cozumel. None stop nickel and dime u to death. We bailed dinning room food was so bad went to restaurants and paid for dinners our Cruise left a day late not their fault but sucked. If u want to party at the golden coral of the seas they will sell u drinks and a bunch a cheap crap. It’s worth paying more for the amount of work that’s goes into it.. the little show we went to good the cast was great had fun there. If you want a nicer vaca save a little more. I know royal is owner by carnival but two different experiences that’s for sure. Never again warning.... Read Less

I have been on over 10 cruises using 5 different cruise lines over the years. We were invited on this cruise with a group. I would not have chosen it but, then I thought, how bad could it be? Dining room food was terrible. Cold, fatty, soggy, runny, undercooked, overcooked, sparse, lack luster....you name it! I was shocked at how bad the food was. I even upcharged ($20) for a steak one evening and lobster another evening. It took one hour for my steak to arrive (everyone else at my table had already eaten). Dining room staff was trying to get me to hurry and eat since the second seating was waiting to get in! Lobster was cold and rubbery. Had Eggs Benedict in dining room one morning that was cold with hard yokes. No potatoes added on plate, nothing. Just two eggs on untoasted english muffins with a little hollandaise sauce. So went to the Lido buffet for breakfast the next day to powdered scrambled eggs! I will say that the hamburgers and Mexican food on the Lido deck by the pool was good. Rooms were as expected but the "refrigerators" do NOT cool. Ever. We thought ours was broken but then they corrected us by referring to them as just "coolers", not refrigerators. But they were warm inside, so why have them? My cabin mate's insulin had to be put in an ice bucket with ice changed twice a day. Couldn't even keep our soda's cool. They were warm. Room cleaning service was good but has gotten sparse. Instead of checking/straightening your room twice a day. It is only once a day. So if you shower before dinner, your towels are not replaced. (No more turning down your bed and placing a mint on your pillow.) Embarking was fairly smooth but disembarking was a crowded and disorganized mess. Long lines to get off and get through customs. Tables out by the pool would sit un-bused for hours before a staff member would come and take dishes away. One day we could not find a clean table to sit at so I went searching for a staff member to bus and clean a table so that we could sit down. Some lady dressed in a navy blue suit (looked like a team leader or manager) walked out and picked up one plate and took it away before coming back 10 minutes later to take another plate. We stood there holding our plates in disbelief at her lack of urgency. Finally, another young man came out and took the majority of the dirty dishes and placed them on another table. Once he wiped off the table we finally sat down. He never came back for the other dishes. Another couple walked up with their plates full contemplating where they would sit since all of the tables were still dirty. Out of disgust, I got up and picked up every single dish/glass/wrapper etc on every single table and piled them on one single table. Then I took some napkins and wiped every single table. The couple thanked me but still no one showed up for another 30 minutes to clean that one table. I even watched several staff members walk by but not one of them attempted to clean the table. Overall, I was disappointed at the steep decline of the food and service. The last Carnival cruise I went on was about 6 years ago on the "Elation" and I thought both the food and service was great! But this experience made me feel as if the staff doesn't care anymore! Read Less

We have sailed with Carnival before but this time was just horrible. We always eat at the sit down restaurant because buffet food is not always the best and we actually got up and left twice. Once the food was horrible and once we never got our food. The lobster was like mush, it would literally squish thru your fork. The veal parm was so hard it was inedible. We were at the roulette table for 2 1/2 hours and no one ever came to get us a drink. On another night a group of us were at the slot machines and someone had to leave a machine and go find a waiter. It was a huge disappointment. I hope it was just this ship but we will never travel with Carnival again. The one good thing was we had a beautiful balcony room and Anton was an amazing steward. This ship needs major help! Waited in line 30 minutes in the red frog bar to buy a beer for happy hour to be told they were out! We opted for a SPA balcony, very hot, absolutely miserable. Call 3 times and still sweating! The ship seems to be grossly understaffed for the number of passengers. Even as a platinum member, service is terrible by customer service. Dining room staff is good but again understaffed. Lines are long and move extremely slow. The bars are the worst, very rude staff but it appears this is due to overwork and understaffed. The bars were NASTY, especially the red frog bar. Ship looks terrible, carpets are dirty and it generally smells everywhere. The shops are extremely dated withe the same old junk. It appears that Carnival has no new items for the past 10 years. I paid too much for this vacation for the terrible service! Read Less

My two best friends and I planned a Birthday trip for this cruise back in August. All of our birthdays are in January and the destinations (Dominican Republic & Turks and Caicos) seemed so perfect. Everything was going smoothly up until the very first night. We experienced extreme rockiness aboard the ship. The ship was making very unusual sounds that had many of us scared. This was my 3rd cruise and I had never heard anything like it. The director of the cruise failed to update us on these weird sounds. Throughout our first night, at about 12am we heard scraping sounds and the ship began to shake. We were absolutely terrified but thankfully, the noise and shaking eventually stopped. By Monday morning, the captain notified us through the speakers that we would not be able to make it to Dominican Republic due to the engine having problems. The speed of the boat slowed down tremendously and there was no way were going to make it to our destination in time. We were outraged. We had excursions planned for ATV riding and Ziplining. This was going to be the highlight of our trip, and missing out on it due to THEIR own error was uncalled for. However, they let it be known that we would be refunded for all excursions. Carnival also mentioned that we will receive $50 in return which is absolutely ridiculous!! Tuesday morning comes, we reach Grand Turks as promised. The captain gets on the speaker to notify us that the wind is too strong and we will not be able to go to Grand Turks. You can only imagine everyone’s reaction to hearing about a cancellation twice in a row. We were heartbroken, we were livid and didn’t want to believe this was actually happening to us. We took time off work, we scheduled flights, we planned everything extensively. All of our money went to waste and all Carnival wanted to offer us for a SECOND cancellation, was another $50!! They expressed time and time again that it was due to the strong winds that we couldn’t dock, but we all know for sure it didn’t have anything to do with the wind. It was without a doubt, their poorly made engine. We were stuck on the boat for 4 days and we felt as though we were being treated unfairly. Everyone on the ship absolutely deserves a Free Cruise. The captain made a decision to dock at the nearest location for the next day, which was the Bahama. Thankfully we actually made it there and off the boat...because by this time, no one wanted to believe a word they were saying after being let down 2 times in a row. We were being lied to. They stated that we couldn’t get a refund because it was due to the weather which is out of their control. I spoke with Jen, the director of the ship. She stated that it’s in the fine print of not being able to receive a Refund. I told her I understand that part, but what about the engine?? I asked her is that in fine print too? Because the engine has absolutely NOTHING to do with us. That is on their part. The engine was suffering due to human error. When I asked her that question, she did not have an answer for it. The very same day the captain told us we couldn’t dock to Grand Turks due to strong wings, that night, being on the ship felt like a nightmare. I was dozing off in bed when it began to shake tremendously. All the champagne glasses in our room and everything on the counters rattled viciously. I was having a nervous breakdown, I was palpitating because I was fearing for the worst. I just knew we weren’t going to make it home. I was in such distress, it took me forever to fall back to sleep. Once again, this has been the worst cruise experience for me and I would not wish this on anyone. There was many people on the ship cruising for the very first time. My best friend was one of them and I hate that they had to go through this for their first experience. It was very traumatizing. The last thing I want to mention was how the Director of the ship appeared to not have any concerns for the people who simply wanted more out of this horrible situation. Carnival set up a Q & A where all passengers got to meet in the theater and ask any questions they had about what had just occurred with the canceling of our destinations. The director’s attitude was very unpleasant. She was being sarcastic and nonchalant when it came time for her to answer any questions. I was in shock because this didn’t seem like the same upbeat, lovable person who was dancing, hosting, and entertaining passengers just hours before. Everyone who was onboard Carnival Elation January 11-16 most certainly, deserves a free cruise after what we endured! Read Less
