We chose the cruise to have a fun New Year's Eve and relax after the business of the holidays... We didn't expect a lot because we've cruised with Carnival before, but it was available and close to home. There was nothing exceptional about the cruise. Our room only got cleaned in the morning (no night time turn down with chocolate on the pillow), no extra special touches at all. The food in the dining room was not good, one night the service was so bad that we left without dessert. We had to pay an extra $38 per person to eat at the steakhouse to get a good meal. No band at the pool, always a DJ playing techno music which is grating after awhile. At Cozumel we had booked a bike ride with another company and no one informed us of the time difference so we were late and had to take a different tour than we booked. We tried to just be grateful that we got to go on a cruise, but it was very pricey for what we got. Not recommended. Read Less

Rude waiters and waitresses in the casino. Food selection was bad at the buffe. Selections in the dinning room was so so. Dirty bathrooms parts of the ship smelled And dirty. Things not working the whole trip like the elevator hand dryers in the bathrooms. Would not do this again and would not recommend this trip to anyone! Heard the ship was 30 years old. They should retire it and make rooms for the homeless veterans! Crew needs some attitude adjustments. The fun director was good. Announcements were not coming out plain on the speakers. Guess they are old too. Rough rough rough seas !!!! This is our 4 cruise with the carnival lines and this is the worst. Sooo many kids. Someone did tell us there were lots of kids on this one! Guys burgers were good as usual. We did enjoy the breakfast on deck too!!! Unhappy customer!!! Read Less

Sailed with friends for their 50th birthday. Our first cruise and I had gone with the thought that it would be like a club on water, I was correct. I was not overly impressed: lines and long wait for most meals, especially the deli, wok and Indian. As for getting a poolside seat or pod especially in adult only areha : forget it. The small pools and spas were disappointing and also crowded. Long wait to get off at our ports and on one occasion over an hour wait to get back on the boat. Paid a premium For internet and it rarely worked amd asked for a refund! Entertainment all bar the comedians in punchliner was very average ,reminded my of my daughters dance concerts. Port stops were nice especially isle pines and mare: amazing waters but the rest were nothing too exciting: noumea was a waste of time and the $55 per person ride around the island on a train was a bit Pricey, a balcony room Located on deck 9 in the middle of the boat we paid $5200 for the 2 of us, add about $700 spent on board for port excursions, drinks and some Entertainment like bingo, it worked out to be an expensive time. I’d rather go back to Bali, Vietnam or Thailand for a lot less money amd More freedom in what we do , with no lines and much better food. I’m assuming Cruising is not for me, and I won’t be rushing to do another. Read Less

This was our 7th annual New Years Cruise with Carnival. We were excited to be on a new boat, and were looking forward to our trip. Although overall we had a great experience, Carnival Panorama seemed to try very hard to not make it a good trip. I will start with the negatives, and move on to the positives: Walking on board was a huge disappointment for us as we were used to walking on to a large and sprawling atrium. This one is 3 levels high, and we did not even enter the boat at the atrium itself. The floor to ceiling video projection pillar is very cool. But it was not the atrium we were used to on other ships. Checked luggage. Two of our three bags arrived right on time. Our third bag (the one with all of my girl-friend's clothes) did not arrive until nearly 6 pm. When I asked about this from a luggage person, I was told that it was because one of our bags had an item confiscated, and suggested I go to guest services. I said there was no way an item would be confiscated as all it had was clothes. But he insisted. So I went to guest services. After waiting for 35 minutes (the line was full of people having difficulty with their keys), I was told that the bag would probably not arrive until 7:00 pm and that was their policy and that I could read the website and find out the same thing (I did read it, Carnival, and nowhere does it say that your luggage will arrive 2.5 hours after departure). The bag finally arrived, but well after the time we were hoping to have dinner in the dining room. Dining room. Carnival hub allows you to request a table and not wait in line. We did this three times, and never once did it work well. We were told to go to one part of the ship and we went there, and then were told our table was not available at that restaurant, and we had to go elsewhere. Every time we went to the dining room they couldn't find our correct table from the app and we had to wander around following someone trying to find it. The service was ok. However even though we requested it, we were never seated in a spot in the dining room where you could watch the show the servers put on. Room-service. We like to take advantage of the limited breakfast delivery service and like to put in an order for coffee, cereal, and bagels to start our day. Never once did our order come correctly or on time, and once not at all. They advertise that if you put out your order by 3:00 am, they would deliver. On New Years Eve we put out our order at 1:30, and the next morning it was still on our door. The "Liquid Lounge" theater where the nightly shows are put on was a huge disappointment. The shows themselves were outstanding. But the theater is way too small for 4,000 guests. On the last night guests were lining up 3 hours in advance to get a seat. We estimated that MOST of the seats are obstructed in some way - both upper and lower level. (Tip - they will allow you to stand at the bar for the show which was by far the best "seat" we had). The "Limelight Lounge" served as the venue for the comedians and the New Years Eve night-club. It also had Karaoke. While the lay-out was great, it was WAY too hot and stuffy most of the time. Even the DJ complained about it. This stuffi-ness was present many times around the ship and in the cabin. Be prepared to pay extra: Everywhere you go on the ship there are people trying to sell you stuff. Every time we ordered a drink, the server requested we make it a "double shot for just $2.00 more." They were often annoyingly insistent. It was difficulty to walk across the ship without someone shoving a "raffle ticket" in your hand requesting you come back to hear their sales pitch. There are multiple dining options, but almost all of them have extra costs. "Open Times" are not as advertised. On our last day the only thing we had left that we really wanted to try was the Mongolian Wok restaurant which states they are open until 2:30. We got there at 1:15 and were turned away because they were "too busy". Another time at lunch in the lido buffet one of the buffet bars was randomly closed at 2:00 - even with food still there. I just wanted a bread-roll and was told I would have to go to the other buffet. It rained on us during one of our port days. No problem with rain, it's unavoidable. But what really bothered us is that on the lido deck the rain pools up in the bar area. You cannot walk across even the covered areas of the lido deck without walking through an inch or two of water. The PROS of Panorama: THE ENTERTAINMENT IS BETTER THAN ANY WE HAVE SEEN. As at least one other reviewer said, the Rock Revolution is better than any show we have seen on Carnival. THE FOOD IS OUTSTANDING. Guy's burger joint is an upgrade. Even better is Guy's "Pig and Anchor" - even though there is almost always an extra cost. However we went down during our first sea day and it was a free buffet with some of the best barbecue we have ever had to be sampled. We ended up paying extra for two dinners there because it was so good, and the extra cost was not extravagant. The taco stand was also a favorite as they make fresh tortillas as you order, and are some really great tacos. THE CABIN STEWARD "RICKY" WAS OUTSTANDING! Ricky really went above and beyond for us. We had a bottle of champagne that we were saving for our last night, but Ricky made sure it was always on ice for us. CLOUD 9 SPA IS AN UPGRADE! We have done several cruises with Cloud 9 amenities, and we liked this one the best. Although the whirlpool is way smaller, it was overall a better experience. We just got back today and both agreed that was a good experience and we do not regret it. But we will not be going with Panorama ever again, and may give up on Carnival all together as the direction that the company seems to be going is to pack more nickel-and-dime opportunities on their ships. We chose this cruise for the New Years celebration and wanted to check out the new ship. This would also be our first Carnival cruise as we have sailed Royal Caribbean once and twice on Princess. Embarkation was fluid and the most organized part of the cruise. We scheduled to arrive at 2 but got there at 11:30 and they let us right on. Being our 4th cruise I felt like we knew what we were doing somewhat though it's been a decade since our last so things have changed. But there is so little information given and it seems the cruise line relies on you seeking information or already knowing what you are doing. I also felt the food outside the main dining room was pretty below average with the exception of Guy's Burgers, Blue Iguana and the Omelet Bar. I do not get the hype on the pizza, it is just globs of cheese on soggy bread with very little flavor to the sauce. Pig and Anchor free lunch is also terrible but the paid meal was alright. Buffet always looked gross with the exception of fruit or sealed items like the yogurt. The sandwitches at the sandwich station were all flavorless and just not very good. The premium coffee's weren't that great. The entertainment was great if you could catch it, but the fun times is so overwhelming that it is tough to really plan your day around it, so you just catch what you can. Emma is a great host though and had loads of energy the whole cruise, I'm not sure how she is going to keep it up for 9 months straight. The new year's deck party was kind of lame, even the countdown was somewhat botched. The new years eve eve party was actually better. They really struggled keeping billing correct. We were billed for laundry service we never used. We received a happy birthday gift card in someone else's name. We were double billed for a spa treatment. And we got charges to our credit card that exceeded what we were supposed to be billed for the final sign and sail total. The ports were great though, had the most fun in Cabo which coincided with the best weather we had the entire cruise. Puerto Vallarta was ruined by unseasonable torrential rain, not the fault of Carnival of course. And debarkation took forever. They start with people on deck 1 who didn't check luggage and work their way up. They got to deck 6 then started calling people who checked luggage. It took almost 2 hours to get to deck 9 and then another 30-45 minutes to get through customs. I'm not sure I'm cruising Carnival again, I think I need to cruise another line to see if the entire industry has gone down hill or it is just Carnival that is the problem. Or maybe it was just a product of a new ship and crew still learning? I hope that is what it can be chalked up to. Read Less

First off, the ship is new and definitely nice. I appreciated knowing everything would be somewhat clean and barely used. Rooms were decently sized and our ocean view on the 1st floor had 2 bathroom for just the two of us, which was appreciated. However, some big gripes. They charge extra for a lot. Specialty restaurants, items on the menu every night, internet is a huge rip off, $1.25 per game arcade, and much much more. I was not willing to spend extra for anything and it really felt like 40% of the experience was missed. While I know that isn't true, it just felt that way and that I was missing out on a lot of what the ship had to offer. The cruise ran out of Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Peroni, certain basic wines, and much more with 3 days left on the trip... I am not sure how that is possible. Do they not have accurate estimates on how much they need to have on board? The dining experience was lacking. We ate in the dining room where you choose your time. Each night we had a different waiter and they were slow and it took a while every night. The main issue I had with the dining room was that the dinners and desserts always came out luke warm as if they had been sitting for a while. Entrees were warm and ice cream on the desserts was melted every single night of the cruise. The last 2 nights I stopped ordering entrees and desserts and just went to the buffet or pizza afterwards (I had to go to the dining room to be with extended family for dinner). The cruise is packed and every morning people had their beach chairs picked out by 9am. Anything left after 10am was in the wind and cold locations. No one would be sitting in the beach chairs until noon, but there was no enforcements and people just left towels clipped to the chairs. Read Less

My wife and I picked this cruise despite the fact we swore we wouldn’t sail with Carnival again after our last trip a couple years ago. Compared to NCL and RC, we just weren’t impressed with our last cruise. But we booked because we wanted a quick weekend getaway on the cheap. Well we got what we paid for. First off, if you have even slight concerns about motion sickness, avoid this ship at all costs. It has no stabilizers so you can feel every wave. Even with my bonine pills, I still had occasional moments of queeziness. The ship is relatively small compared to others I’ve sailed. So the entertainment options were kind of limited. The pools are not really that kid friendly and there aren’t a lot of things available to entertain kids, so it’s not an ideal family cruise compared to others we’ve been on. They had a water slide but it’s not accessible from the main pool deck so you can’t keep a close eye on the kids if you want to sun bathe while they slide. The dining was mediocre at best. The main dining room had pretty standard options each night. The “Featured Vegetarian” entree was the exact same dish all three nights. Not great for my wife. Seriously? They couldn’t come up with 3 different entrees? I had a pork chop on the first night which was tough and dry. The other dishes were decent but nothing compared to the elegant dishes I had on NCL and RC. Breakfast room service was a bit of a joke. We normally order it out of convenience but their offerings were extremely limited if you didn’t want an extra charge. We could get fruit, cereal, danishes, yogurt cups, juices, and coffee. Basic Continental breakfast. No hot plates. One of our bananas was half mush and the melons were all under ripe and flavorless. We went to the main dining room after the first morning. Much better options, which were quite good. The stateroom was clean, with the one exception of a leftover sock in one of the cabinets. The air conditioning was impossible to adjust. We had a thermostat but it didn’t appear to do anything. Always chilly in our room. And it was incredibly noisy. Constantly sounded like we were on an airplane. It was that loud. The ship is in desperate need of a makeover though. Lots of salt-wear on deck rails, chipped paint, etc... The mandatory safety briefing was not great. They communicated relatively well but never gave us a warning for when the alarms would sound. They just blasted in our tiny stateroom and scared us to death! Just give us a heads up. My one real complaint was regarding their prohibited items policy. We have packed a small power strip for every cruise we’ve ever taken, including our last Carnival cruise. This time they confiscated it before we embarked. I pointed to their website policy that says power strips are an exception (they said with careful use, whatever that’s supposed to mean) but they refused to return it until the end of the cruise. They had no explanation for why I was allowed to use it on our last cruise, nor why it was such an objectionable item. They basically just said, sorry not sorry. The stateroom only had one US compatible receptacle. How are we supposed to charge two phones and two watches at night? Again, the ship is out-dated. With regard to entertainment, the only show we saw was one of the comedians. We went to the PG show so it seemed he felt restricted in his act considering there was a 10 yr old in the front row. He wasn’t all that great to be honest, but in fairness he had a pretty quiet crowd. We did listen to a few musicians at random times. They were alright. Nothing spectacular. Found it funny when we went to a bar that advertised “acoustic jams” and were greeted by a blues musician playing electric guitar. Must be that “new” acoustic all the kids are talking about! He wasn’t bad though. As usual, there was lots of attempted upselling for photos, drinks, art auctions etc... Pretty typical in our experience. We did actually buy a couple of photos from the studio photographer on the Cruise Elegant night. She did a nice job. The prints were overpriced but good quality. Speaking of Cruise Elegant night, the dining room was not strict on the dress code for that evening. There were plenty of guests in T-shirts and jeans. We took one excursion but it wasn’t booked through the cruise line so I’ll rate it separately. Overall, we made the most of it. Easily our least favorite of all our cruises but for the price it wasn’t awful. We spent plenty of time relaxing. Not much on deck due to chilly temperatures but still pretty comfortable. If you are a local resident to the Miracle’s embarkation point, it might be a nice weekend booze cruise. But not worth an expensive flight and long term vacation expectations. Read Less

This is was our second time aboard the Sunshine and honestly our first trip wasn’t that great. We sailed on the Sunshine when it was in Florida (Orlando maybe?) and was hesitant to sail on it again but simply selected this cruise because of its convenience out of Charleston. We had sailed out of Charleston before aboard the Ecstasy and had a much more enjoyable trip. Fist off this ship is nasty. Everything about it looks dirty and old and not well kept. Our stateroom bathroom smelt of urine horribly and the balcony made you feel dirty just stepping out on it. We decided to enroll our children in camp ocean and our children hated it. They were not entertained at all and did not want to go back. On the final day I asked them if they wanted to try it one more time. They went for little over an hour before I got a call about youngest one would not stop crying and wanted to leave. I go in there and they basically put the kids in a room with a few basic toys but were not interacting with them at all. I found this odd because I have talked to other parents that had used camp ocean on other ships and their kids loved it. Then there was the food. The dinning room and buffet were absolutely horrible. If it had not been for the burger joint, burrito bar and sandwich station I don’t know what we would have done. There was very little selection on the buffet and generally nothing for small children to eat (tell me what child is going to eat fish with clams that taste fishy). We ended up eating the main dining room every night because at least they had a kid’s menu even though the rest of the adult menu wasn’t that great. I have been on many cruise ships and the Sunshine is at the bottom of the list for food. I also enjoy craft beer and now that carnival started pretty much only selling their brand brew, they don’t have that great of a selection anymore. I love IPA beer, but the carnival Parched Pig IPA lacks a lot to be desired. On the upside the terminal in Charleston made the boarding and embarkation very smooth and easy. Now if they would just switch ships again they would be golden. Read Less

Food in the dining room was excellent as usual, but the buffet was not nearly as good as it usually is. Desserts on the buffet were tasteless and lacked variety. Cookies were hard as rocks. Breakfast at the buffet was delicious, but lunch and dinner were awful. There were about 5 choices for each meal. Room stewards were friendly and the service was wonderful. They kept the room spotless. Wonderful team! The entertainment was not great. It mostly included loud dance parties and trivia. There was little variety. The one saving grace was Cee Jay Jones, one of the comedians. Very talented and professional! On embarkation day, we got into our room pretty quickly and got into the buffet right away for lunch. They told us we'd be leaving by midnight, but I was disappointed to wake up in port the next day. It was frustrating that the crew told us one thing yet didn't deliver. Disembarkation was unorganized and chaotic. Cruise director called the deck numbers way too quickly, not allowing time in between for the lines to shorten and elevators to clear. Read Less

We decided to take a Christmas cruise. It was a nightmare. 12&13 year old knocking on doors in the night n running away. Water dripping from the ceiling in the dining area. Food n dishes left every where. Children breaking glasses at the dinner table. While the parents sat at another table. The staff didn’t look happy to be working. We waited at dinner for 10 minutes and no one never came over to greet us at dinner. We had to go find a waiter to place our dinner order. Several people walked out and never got served that night. The service has went down so much. And the food was not good. Not enough activities to do. And they charge for so much now for everything. You could at least charge half off on port days for the movie’s. I made several complaints to guest service and was told next time don’t take a cruise with kids. Which was funny when we had ours with us. So disrespectful n rude. I couldn’t enjoy my balcony room from the noise above us. Making bigger ships and taking away all quality n respect. I don’t mind paying for more if I got quality and some respect. So if the staff was rude n they just look unhappy. Many complained about their pay. Please take time and listen to your consumers n your staff. This is why so many are going to other cruise lines. Last but not least I had to look for staff people to fill up the wipes in the gym just to clean the equipment. Not my job but wanted to clean from working out. Read Less

Chose this cruise for a relaxing, quiet Christmas getaway. Could not have been more wrong. Boarding was short sharp and shiny. Stateroom was excellent, but that is where it ends. Parents unleashed an array of noisey, unruley brats on the the entire ship. Hygene supervision at the buffets was non existent, People were handling food with their hands, tasting it and returning it to the trays.YUK!!! Trying to get food from them buffet was was almost like taking your life in your hands. You would think these people had never seen food, judging by the way they pushed and shoved to get to the buffet. The food was was mediocre to say the least. If there was no salt and pepper, there was no flavor. People were active on the ship until early hours of the morning, as to be expected on a holiday. The only thing to eat was from a pizza servery that had a queue arond the ship, as did the other food servery points, but the whole ship closed at 830 pm, except for the casino. The staff are to be commended for their service. They all deserve a pay rise for their outstanding servive to the passengers. the only saving grace on the whole trip. If you plane to go ashore anywhere, dont plan on going far from the ship. Docking is at 8am, getting off will be at around 11am and you jave to be back at 415pm for the last tender. 3,800 people CANT be accommodated in that amount of time. Save money and DONT buy on shore tours on the ship. They will charge you twice as much. Get a local tour when yiu eventually get ashore, only half the price. In conclusion, this ship is promoted as a floating resort. If that were true, facilities such as food and entertainment would be available until after midnight. If it was a resort parents would be held more responsible in maintaining their children. This ship is not a floating resort. It is an over priced floating caravan park. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway, stay away from this ship. Read Less

This cruise was going for a great deal. I know why. I’ve sailed on carnival many times and this ship just didn’t have what others do. Pros: The ship was very clean and renovations were obvious. The Flying Scotsman was great! Cons: The food was poor quality, even in the main dining room. The ship lacks entertainment in the evening. The shows they had were just so-so. I’ve seen much better on other ships. The store was always closed, so when the ship hit storms, the store wasn’t open for meds. Overall, most staff seemed inconvenienced and didn’t seem to enjoy their jobs, like on other ships I’ve been on. Most were not friendly or fun. The overall climate of the ship needs a lot of work. The layout of the ship takes some getting use to, but that is the least of this ships cons. Sadly, I would look to cruise on a ship other than this one. Read Less

Poor coordination attempting to start the shore excursions. Worst of all, the food was mediocre at best! The entertainment was a highlight. The shows were great and the band Sweet Emoceans were very very good. Our cruise director Alex was also great. And overall the staff was very good. I sailed in December of 2019 to the Eastern Caribbean for 7 days on the Breeze - the fourth Carnival ship I have sailed on. Carnival Breeze was the roughest ride by far - the first two days we did up to 45 knots to get to our first port of call, and the entire Breeze wallowed, shook and rattled at that speed, which made sleeping difficult. The Breeze is not an attractive ship. It's interior is VERY plain and predominantly light yellow, and it's decorations are sparse and cheap looking. It feels like a floating Motel 6. The Breeze is a very loud ship - all of the music in all of the locations was just a little too loud and bounced off of it's hard plain walls. The Breeze was the dirtiest Carnival ship I have been on - the carpets had stains on them, spots of carpet powder that were never removed, and guests leaving food like shrimp tails and pizza crusts in weird public spots. I got the impression that the ship is just too big for the crew to keep up with. Summary - The Breeze will appeal to cruisers who enjoy the latest in entertainment and on-board activities, which were varied and impressive. The Breeze will not impress cruisers who value ambiance, and will prefer the lavish decor of ships like the Carnival Miracle, which encourage the guest to explore it just to see details. Read Less

I have wanted to go on a cruise for years, so my husband booked one as a surprise for Christmas. We chose Carnival Sunshine simply because we live in North Carolina and Charleston is the closet port (4 hour drive). Let me start out with the pros: Everyone on board, crew members and other vacationers, were SO friendly. We had the pleasure of meeting the cruise director and the captain and both were very personable. We loved our cabin steward, Aris. The atmosphere on board was really positive and that goes a long way. For food, we really enjoyed Guy's Burgers, the deli shop, pizza, and the salsa bar. All were delicious. All drinks we ordered were also great. Our favorite part of the trip was Half Moon Cay. We wish more days could have been like that. The process of getting there and back was fairly simple with a shorter line than most other activities throughout the week, the beach was truly perfect, we loved renting an affordable clam shell for sun protection, and there were walking paths, gift shops, a fun pirate ship water playground, and a regular playground. My husband and I both agree this was the best day of the ship and we truly felt like our son had fun that day. Our cabin was small, as expected, but the bed and pillows were super comfortable. Also, we did enjoy the fitness room and being able to workout while on board. I wish I could have used the spa but did not end up booking anything. It smelled wonderful and was really pretty! The spa staff were super nice, too. Now for the cons: The muster drill took over an hour, which was really challenging with a tired toddler. I have talked to so many people who cruise regularly and many from our area take Carnival Sunshine because of the convenience. I was under the impression that the pool and sports complex would be bigger and better than it was. However, the main pool was the size of a regular backyard pool and the two whirlpools were very small. The sports complex was also very small. My son is young and we got up early every morning trying to get him to the sports complex so he could shoot some basketball. Finally on the very last day he got to shoot some baskets because there were only a few kids on the court. It was so over crowded the whole time. This isn't Carnival's fault, but the wind on the sports complex was frightening the whole time we were at sea. It just made it one less place for us to play. Because everything was so crowded and it was so windy, my toddler spent most days climbing up and down the stairs on the inside and outside of the ship. Luckily I brought him some new trucks to play with, coloring books and crayons, and shows on my iPad. Those kept him entertained when there was truly nothing for him to do on board. This is a just a personal preference, but we did not enroll our child in Camp Ocean. I am not comfortable leaving him with people I've never met. When it comes to traveling, I am a big planner. I research all the best options, what to do while we are there, how to get around, I watch YouTube videos for cruise tips, etc. I also work in public health and even read the ship's sanitation reports beforehand. I want to know it all! Even after all the planning and preparing, I felt completely lost on board and I know others felt the same way because we would get on the elevator and all be lost on where we were going. Additionally, I have a major problem with the secondhand smoke on this ship. The secondhand smoke from the casino is extremely offensive and can be smelled on every floor because SMOKE TRAVELS and sticks to every single service. I find it completely unreasonable that the outside smoking area is in the same area as Camp Ocean for children. Anyone wanting to visit that area has to take their children through a cloud of smoke, and secondhand smoke is a health hazard especially for children and anyone with asthma or other lung conditions. We ate the buffet most evenings because of the convenience with a toddler. The food was alright but not as good as I had expected with how everyone raves about cruise food. Room service was very disappointing. I ordered my son a peanut butter and jelly sandwich one afternoon, which arrived with stale bread and stale potato chips. The entertainment (especially the "morning show") was disappointing, though Mikey was a great cruise director. We were really looking forward to doing Build-A-Bear but it was not enjoyable because it was so chaotic. The music was way too loud, you had to shout to communicate with the crew members doing the event. When we stopped in Nassau, we were looking forward to a nice relaxing beach day. We got off the ship early to spend as much time in Nassau as we could. It was so horrible we were only off the ship for 2 hours. The taxi rides are terrifying and the beach was really sketchy. We were definitely mislead for which beach to attend. My husband and I have enjoyed traveling together for years and a cruise was really something we had looked forward to. Unfortunately, I found myself feeling completely trapped this entire trip. I was counting down the days until we could get off the ship and it just feels like a waste of money and time off from work. We will never take another Carnival cruise. Read Less

This is one of the worst ships I’ve been on! This was my 2nd Carnival Cruise. I will stick with NCL or RC from now on. This was a family cruise so we had 7 ppl with 2 staterooms. The activities were good and we especially liked the Dr Seuss breakfast. Cookie the cruise director was hilarious and likable. The shows were good. The dining room staff were excellent and our cabin steward was wonderful as well. We just couldn’t get past all of the issues this boat has. Water leaking all over the place, Several blowers in hallway (deck 2) everyday. VERY LOUD noise from welding and whatever else they were doing EVERYDAY! Chemical/paint smell in our cabin that made some of us sick. Shower drain bubbling up with what smelled like sewage water. Sewage smell really bad in certain areas including lido deck. That sure affects the appetite!!! NO ONE MONITORING HAND WASHING OR SANTIZING OF HANDS AT BUFFET! Most of the time sanitize stations were completely out! The only positive was the exceptional crew! EVERYONE was super nice! Read Less

We have used Carnival for many years and have enjoyed it and considered it a good value for a vacation. Traffic, waiting in line to get on and off the ship is expected and a concession you’re willing to make when the rest is relaxing and paid for except for the drinks. There was 11 of us and we will probably be willing to pay more for more enjoyment and less annoyance in the future. A lot of people feel this way. Upon getting on the ship there was an incredible stench off raw sewage. It was much better the next day but was intermittently noticed throughout the trip. Room cleaning has been reduced from 2 to 1 time daily. Twice is nice for rooms this small. Lobster now cost $20 extra as are some other items that used to be included. Smoked salmon, one of my favorites, was no longer offered. Food was good not great and pretty common items. Nothing special. Pizza and sandwiches were good if you were willing to wait. Even the safety drill was incredibly long with no explanation. We were entertained by having members of the audience tell jokes while waiting to be released. Announcements were particularly annoying since we had to go into the hallway to be able to hear and they were pretty much always commercial announcements. But you had to listen in case it was an emergency. Returning from shore excursions, was somewhat unpleasant due to constantly being told to keep moving whether. There was anywhere to move to or not and some of the cattle herders were impolite. Overall atmosphere was that there was an effort to cut costs through reduced services and personnel as well as general maintenance and food costs. Also very notable that exiting the cruise ship was very slow and some people appeared to randomly be searched or at least their luggage was. Read Less

Short Review: Embarkation/Disembarkation: Fast! Good Ship: Big, cheap feeling, wasted space. Bad Cabin: Great! Dining: Good overall. Pizza wait is atrocious. Dining room cramped. Entertainment and Activities: Too much country music! Too much football! All texas all the time. Service: Service people, great. Supervisory staff, annoying. Ports and Shore excursions: Standard cruise fair. Great Carnival beach at Mahogany Bay. Carnival tends to get a bad wrap, not sure why as this is our 3rd Carnival cruise and have had great experiences with Carnival in the past. We have also cruised with Norwegian so we have a basis of comparison. Embarkation/Disembarkation: Embarkation onto our ship went as smooth as it ever has. I believe we might've spent less time getting onto the ship in Galveston than we did in New Orleans or Miami (Norwegian). Disembarkation was also pretty smooth, getting off the ship was quick but the customs line was long, but nothing onerous. Ship: Big and spartan. Ya they can fit a lot of people on this ship... but it feels much smaller than the Carnival Dream. The atrium has that cool martini glass structure in the middle but it lacks the wide open spaces, chandeliers, and glass elevators of the Carnival dream. The dining rooms are somehow more dated looking than older ships. There are more 'bad' seats in the dining areas than good. Your chances of ending up next to a pillar, the kitchen exits, or next to a busy thoroughfare are much higher than getting a good seat. Great you included an IMax theater on a ship! Unfortunately that's space the ship could've sorrily used and I for one wouldn't bother watching a movie with my hard earned bucks after spending a few thousand to sail the tropical seas. You like hot tubs? Too bad! They are notably lacking on this ship. The Dream seemed to have hot tubs everywhere and, at most, you'd be dealing with 4-5 other people. On the Vista the hot tubs are always packed and usually with kids. Sports areas are pretty good but packed together so your mini-golf, pool, and foosball, shuffleboard, twister, etc... are all on top of each other. Cabin: It was good! We had a balcony room for the first time and the views were great, the beds were comfy, and it was bright and open. Lots of plugs and usb ports to charge your electronics. Bathroom was tiny but well laid out and all the plumbing worked as expected although our faucet occasionally considered hot to be steam, warm to be hot, and cold to be still hot. Dining: My kingdom for a pizza. Holy crow was El Capitane's pizza busy. Every minute of every day there was a line up. At night the place was a zoo. On the Pride and the Dream getting a Pizza was simple and convenient. Now with the advent of limited room service people have figured out that grabbing a pizza is the only convenient thing to do in the off-dining times. Blue Iguana and Guy's Burger lines weren't bad at all. Also the food was always really tasty but definitely skewed "American", therefore everything was super salty, but we didn't mind much. The dining rooms were a little disappointing because of the aforementioned bad seating, the dishes were almost 100% identical to dishes we've had on other Carnival cruises, I think the only new things were the peach and mango soups. Fortunately the steak on this cruise was excellent and I would recommend that as a go-to, I'm guessing this is because Texas is known for it's beef? Gelato was amazing and I wish I had it every day, but our schedule often conflicted with it. If you like Asian food I would 100% skip the JiJi's Asian Kitchen. It's awful. I'm a little biased since I've traveled in Asia quite a bit but this stuff is bland as all get out. On the Dream the stir-fry place was just part of the buffet, quick and convenient. On the Vista you often need to wait for a seat at JiJi's Asian Kitchen to get bland and tasteless mall food-court level Chinese. Easy pass! Guy's pig and anchor is located on deck 5... somewhere... never had it once, couldn't comment. It's off the beaten path when you're thinking food (same deal on the Dream). Entertainment/Activities: You from Texas? No? Too bad! You like country music? No? Too bad! You like jokes about football and... more football? No? Too bad! This cruise doesn't leave Texas! If you never have to hear a country crooner cover Third Eye Blind consider yourself lucky. If you're from the Southern US you'll probably enjoy the entertainment but other than the Violin players (they're great) and the major shows everything was Texan focused. It was also hard to take in much of the entertainment because my son would refused to go to kid's club because he was being bullied by some older kids, can't really blame that on the ship, but maybe a bit of intervention from the counselors could've went a long way. Water slides were fun but there's just two. The waterpark for smaller kids was good too. The rope course and sky cycle were fun but the cycle required you to line up for around 45 minutes to an hour. The Liquid lounge had some good shows but there are a lot of blindspots behind pillars so get there early if you want to actually see. Service: Service was a mixed bag. On the highs were the waiters, cleaning staff, waterpark staff. Mario from Bosnia in the dining room was always cheerful and accommodating. Dylan from Scotland from the sports area saw my daughter was sad (because she was 0.5" too short for the sky cycle) and gave her a Carnival medal that brightened her day. Interestingly the supervisory staff were rarely pleasant to deal with. Our party ended up getting booked into two different dining rooms/times despite being all booked under the same reservation. Dealing with the Maitre'D (don't remember name, he was Italian I believe) in the restaurant had us banging our head against a brick wall because "we booked two different dining places" which is stupid. The Maitre'D convinced us that the problem should be handled by guest services. Guest services told us to talk to the Maitre'D and convinced us that whoever we booked the cruise with must've caused the goof but there wasn't much we could do and we should go to the Blue Frog Pub to get our reservations straightened out. When we got to the Blue Frog Pub they told us to talk to Maitre'D. If you die and go to the bad place this is the type of stuff you do for eternity. At this point we gave up and just took our chances with your time dining with usually crappy tables for all but 2 nights. Also, I came on the ship with a jacket that made it to our stateroom but when we were packing up to leave I couldn't find it anywhere. It was dark blue and I was worried that it accidentally got taken out of the room with our beach towels. I asked our room attendant and he said emphatically that nothing can possibly leave the rooms. So magic jacket-eating rooms could be either a pro or con if you believe in magic. Not a pro if you have to fly into Detroit in mid-December in a T-Shirt. Ports/Shore Excursions: I pay thousands of dollars for a vacation I'm not spending thousands more for other stuff. That's no crack against Carnival or any other cruiseline that's just me. Carnival's beach in Mahogany bay was great, and free. Sandy, and lots of amenities and great snorkeling off the dock. No complaints at all. Belize city we didn't do much just walked around the port, it was bright and clean though. Cozumel was dirty and run down, but that's not on Carnival. We went to a nearby public beach that the locals use, it was full of broken glass and had a few homeless people. But if you just grab your snorkel gear and go out in the water there's plenty to see and the kids loved it. (Despite what you might've read above, we're not hard to please) Congrats you made it to the end! Sadly this was my least favourite cruise I've been on. I think the major reason is that our experience on the Carnival Dream was so much better in every way. If you're a Texan and you have better luck than us, and you like paying for extras you might have a great time. If you're a Canadian who has to pay a lot of money just to get to Galveston and you have bad luck, you might not have a great time. If it's any consolation other than the bullying my kids had a great time and would gladly go back. Read Less

We just got back from our 3rd cruise with Carnival and it was our worst so far. We took my parents for their first cruise so of course, nothing went as well as we talked it up to them. There were multiple arguments had during our short cruise and so many rude people. During the elegant night, we were one of the few groups of people dressed up, there were multiple tables of people in hats and bathing suits. None of the staff or security seemed to care about two drunk women screaming about a cheating boyfriend during the middle of our meal so us and several other people got up and walked out during dinner one of the couples stopped by our table and shared how disappointed with the cruise they were as well. The food was mediocre, we mainly lived off of salad and Guy's Burgers which is always good. The Carnival Hub App had so many problems with Chat on this cruise most of the time we were unable to send/ receive messages. Our steward was awesome and very helpful. Debarkation on this ship was the worst we've ever had. Nobody followed directions on waiting to be called and everyone was shoulder to shoulder pushing and yelling at each other to get off. We were planning on taking another Carnival cruise at the beginning of next year but we will be considering another cruise line. I know most of the problems we had were because of the guests but Carnival seems to just ignore the problems. Read Less

The gratuities per person where automatically charged on my card without informing the me (customer) which was weird. Food- being a Vegetarian it was a hell to pick the right food, the spoon where actually mixed between Veg and non-Veg, I ordered a Veggie Taco and there was meat on it. I ended having cereal the entire cruise time. The food didn’t look good quality for me. No cash transaction was accepted on the cruise, I couldn’t even buy/exchange a photo at the nth moment while debarking which was disappointing as well. The rooms were cleaned regularly and entertainment was good, the team had tried to do the best. There were lots of programs for all the age groups which was excellent. The entire crew are/ were trying to do the best to make customers happy. Some feedback for improvement. The food / dinning department , should have a separate counters for Vegetarians /Vegans. There should be an update to the new technology which should be ease to use and customer friendly. All mode of payments should be accepted not depending only on credit/sail and sign cards. Read Less

We booked a family vacation for 8 and drove down from NY to Jax. Immediately the smell onboard was off putting but we decide to ignore as best we could and have a good time. Staff appear to be working hard and the entertainment was good . The food was sub par tasteless and lukewarm. Pizza was good so we ate that a lot . Buffet is in supervised by staff and kids were touching everything. No one was encouraged to wash hands. No one enforced rule of hot tubs . It really was a germ fest. On Weds 12/5 our youngest began to vomit . Now on our drive home all the kids are sick IN THE CAR trapped! Worst cruise ever. The Ecstasy needs to be retired and the Head chef needs to be replaced and forced to eat from the buffet! It really baffles me why Carnival continues to sail this ship. Such a waste of money for us. I found an incredible deal on a 4 day cruise so I took my sister with me and got on board. The boarding process was quick and easy with plenty of smiles to go around. Only 4 days means you can carry everything on so you can avoid the whole checked bag system that is often a nightmare. The ship itself (Liberty) is fairly small, which can be an advantage, and never felt overcrowded except once on sea day when it was 65 degrees outside and most people were trying to stay inside. The room attendants all appeared to be happy and friendly, saying good morning to everyone that passed by them. The room was kept tidy and I liked the towels. The layout of this room, non-converting twins, was roomy and spacious for sisters not wanting to sleep three inches apart or in bunk beds. So, that was the good. The bad was a little more extensive and the meh is even more so. Our cabin, 2201, was freezing, with the AC stuck to full on. Did I mention it was in the 60s on this cruise? So inside the cabin was probably in the low 40s. We kept on shoes and jackets and propped the door open a little. Once we ran the shower on hot for 10 minutes to heat the room so we could change our clothes. When we reported it we were met with “how cold exactly?” Like we carry a thermometer... the next day, water started pouring out of the light fixture above one of the beds. The cabin steward acted fast and drug the mattress off the bed and put a trash can there, calling for an emergency maintenance crew. They had the leak fixed in about 4 hours and we were allowed back into our room. We were glad to get to put in our bathing suits finally so we could find a hot tub- our air was still cranking out at super-freeze temps- but right when we made it to the hot tub on our at sea day, I was told I couldn’t get in because they were about to close them. Now the two by the main pool were full of the 8-10 year old crowd, and one in the Serenity adult area was roped off and taken apart- the whole cruise. So, no hot tub for us... Cold in the room wasn’t all bad though, because I keep my medication refrigerated and the “cooler” in the room was warm. Not like upper 60s warm, like 78 warm. We reported it and were told “it’s not a refrigerator, it’s a cooler” by everyone we told. So, we hunkered down for another freezing cold night in the room after reporting once again (4 times total) that it was too cold and we couldn’t get the cold air to stop. The next day, we came back from breakfast and a walk into our port location to find workmen in our room with the ceiling taken apart. All good signs, but we had already been kept out of our room the day before. One guy said 15 minutes. We came back a few times over the next 5+ hours as they installed a new AC fan unit and finally at 4:30, they had our room vacuumed up and blessedly the same temp as the hallway! So much for not doing a tour so we could get a nap in. That takes us to the end of our second full day (day three they call it) and we are now able to use our room. Our cooler still isn’t cool. Day four in the room is uneventful. The horrid pink trim still clashes with the burgundy and gold carpet (which was only squishy wet until we woke up on day 3 from the previous day’s flood), the ceiling was still scratched and rusty, and an entire wall was just a big empty, plastic wallpapered ugliness. Mixed with the old dim lighting fixtures, it is pretty grim despite the lovely layout. The meh is all the service. We stumbled upon a few crew members that were smiling and friendly, but for the most part, outside of the cabin stewards who all seemed very friendly, they walked around doing a resting-*itch-face impression. The food was OK. The portions were way too big, the service was slow and sort of polite- at best. They take your entire order, including dessert and drinks all at once, stack up old dishes-including scraping old food into one big pile- right next to your table and leave it there for your whole meal. Yuk. There is always a line of an hour or more for customer service, the library is not well stocked at all, and the cakes they put out at snack time were frozen solid so the servers couldn’t even cut many of them for hours. There were dozens more of the meh variety but this is getting long, so suffice it to say, the service wasn’t the end of the world, but it wasn’t good. In the end, what did they give me for not having a good or working or accessible cabin for well over half the cruise? A $20 meal upgrade in the main dining room and a drink. Just one drink. Read Less

1. The staff drill that began at 9:30am one day and featured extremely loud alarms and constant talking IN OUR STATEROOM completely terrified our two year old and woke us all up. It was completely unnecessary and we had no warning. 2. The entire ship smelled like cigarette smoke. It really agitated my family's asthma during the cruise. A lot of people smoke in the casino with open airways to the rest of the ship, and I'm pretty sure they also smoke in their rooms because we smelled strong smoke smells everywhere, including the Camp Ocean area. 3. The boat is difficult to maneuver around. Camp Ocean makes us walk from one end of the ship to the other through many hallways. Very hard with a toddler. They could at least have an elevator or staircase that goes up to it. Also, the Lido deck food area has an inconvenient set-up. 4. The buffets and dining room are not open long enough and usually only briefly open for breakfast and dinner. Most of the time, it was a struggle to find any food except pizza and sandwiches. 5. Camp Ocean does not follow their own scheduled times and activities. A few times when we went to drop off during open hours, they were closed. And at times when the schedule said arts, crafts, party, fun activities, games, etc, it was always just "kids choice" which means unstructured free play with toys or watching a movie. My kid does that all the time at home. I was hoping for something different on board. Also, the room looks super boring. Same color blue carpet, walls, and ceiling with very low lighting. Read Less

I've been cruising for 40 years, starting in 1978 on the emerald seas. I've taken over 40 cruises and am a gold carnival member. We took advantage of the many hotels that offer a park and cruise program where you can stay the night before departure and leave your car in their parking lot and take a shuttle to the port. We swore off carnival a couple of years ago because of bad experiences, but the ports were interesting and this was the first "large" ship we sailed at 130,000 tons. Apparently Carnival has decided to attract a certain demographic that were the most disgusting group of human beings I've been locked on a ship with. Their foul language, rude behavior and no consideration for the kids and ladies was horrible. On deck 11 above the main pool area as we were sitting with new friends we met, this group next to us started fighting and yelling the MF words, F words and then one of them got up and yelled across the pool to someone saying "hey MF come over here". They kept up the foul language until I stood up and threatened to knock him out if hey didn't shut his mouth. Told him there were kids and ladies here and didn't need to talk like that. Carnival had no security around. On the last night in the atrium level 3 another gang started yelling profanities, this time the security team removed them, but they were back 30 minutes later. These groups would travel in packs and my wife was scared to move about the ship unattended. On formal or dress up night they let these gangsta's come into the dining room with baseball hats, shorts, wife beater shirts. Carnival never enforced the dress code or any behavior rules. That being said, we booked this cruise for our 17th anniversary. Embarkation was for the most part fast. They herd you like cattle, long lines for everything, there was a black long hair in my eggs, when we were at the second "formal" night our personal carnival cruise planer DJ Myrick arranged for a anniversary cake and they gave it to another couple who had no idea why they were receiving a cake. Not being deterred, they ate our cake. I gave the cabin an excellent rating because it was a outside ocean view deluxe which had plenty of room and a FULL BATH AND A HALF BATH. The picture window was big enough to watch the ocean as we sailed. if I had kids I would NEVER sail with this company until they clean up their act. One more thing, Carnival now rents scooters. Not exaggerating, there were 400 scooters running into people, clogging elevators, running into the back of your legs if you take to long in the food line, One kid was playing with a scooter, lost control and cleared out a table of people. People were so feeble our departure was delayed due to a medical emergency and when we were disembarking a lady fell out of her wheel chair clogging the only way out. They called the ship doctor and when he arrived he told the people helping that he was familiar with her. While in port at Grand Turk the sister ship Dream had a medical emergency and they had to life flight someone to St. Thomas. A cruise is not the place if you're not not able to walk and your health is such that you may have to be left in port. That's expensive and on you. What a total disaster and waste of my hard earned money. Read Less

As a regular carnival cruiser I was so disappointed in this last cruise on the Horizon. Air did not work correctly ANYWHERE on ship, water dripping from ceiling everywhere including while using restroom, playing in casino and sitting in dining room, food selections were slim and sub standard compared to last cruises, public bathroom were poorly marked, door locks didn’t work and common areas were not clean. Trying to find anything was a joke-the new design has everything scattered. The biggest problem was not getting a good night sleep the entire cruise. The lady in next room woke us the entire night coughing and I’m not sure what was above us but it sounded like a gymnasium at all hours of night. Guessing they cheapened the building materials because there was no sound barrier at all. And if you are looking for the entertainment you are accustomed to you won’t get it on this ship-no bands, limited daily activities etc. I have always used Carnival but never again on this ship Read Less
