Melbourne to Melbourne, so no added cost of flights or hotel. Short cruise for friends who were first time cruisers. Smooth embarkation, plenty of staff to help you with luggage, however they lost the tag off ours, so had no clothes to change into for dinner. Took a while to locate it. Canaletto Dining Room (Formal Dining) this would be the hardest restaurant to find, only one set of lifts go to the part of deck 6 it is on. Food was average. Crown Grill not up to Noveau restaurant on Carnival Spirit. Wine prices were far too high, realise the demographics of delivery and storage and expect to pay more, but $9 wine selling for $46 Is not acceptable. Advise to take your own and pay the corkage to drink your own in the dining rooms. Cabin and shower area small, our steward kept it very clean, wardrobe space had a good supply of hangers. Entertainment ok and Roel de Vries in promenade bar was exceptional. Read Less

We wanted a shorter cruise that provided interesting ports of call. This cruise from Melbourne fitted the bill perfectly. All ports have their own unique reasons for being places worth visiting. As we are from Sydney, so cruising from Melbourne gave us the opportunity to travel to Melbourne a few days before and spend time sightseeing, which we haven't done for many years. The whole experience of embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly. It was easy to catch a taxi from our accommodation in Melbourne CBD to Port Melbourne and the bus organised by Princess Cruises to get to the airport after disembarking was hassle free. The ship was very good, decor very nice and the fixtures well maintained. We had a mini suite, which was very clean and well maintained and we really appreciated the extra space. A key part of going on a cruise is the dining and the dining experience on the Golden Princess was excellent. We had no problem choosing something to our taste at every meal, the meals were delicious and the wine list was very good. There was a very good mix of entertainment and activities to keep us occupied. The shows we attended were excellent and we'd have happily paid to see the same standard of shows at home. There was a good mix of entertainers on board and we had no problem being entertained while enjoying a drink or two in the bars and lounges. The service provided by the crew was very good and we felt well looked after. Our cabin steward was excellent, as was the wait staff when we dined at Sabatini's, one of the speciality dining restaurants. The ports of call were interesting with a good mix of excursions to suit most people. The highlight for me was Phillip Island and the Penguin Parade. However, I enjoyed our day in Adelaide, where we didn't book any excursions as we've been their a number of times before, but spent our time visiting the Art Gallery and city centre. The only disappointment was the cancellation of the Kangaroo Island stop due to strong winds and rough water preventing the ship from anchoring. Would we do the cruise again? Definitely, though we would probably prefer to do a one way cruise starting in Sydney with the same ports of call and then fly home from Adelaide. Read Less

First cruise and I was terrified due to negative reviews on here. Our review...well we are now hooked....an amazing cruise. We ate everywhere...enjoyed it all. The ships crew are constantly cleaning to keep the ship presentable. The entertainment is amazing. Attend as much as possible. All incredibly enjoyable especial the Maquee live shows. Entertainment crew hilarious Mathew Dom Pablo Miguel etc. We had the smaller cheaper cabins which were perfect for our budget and needs....hot showers were amazing. Many reviews complained about the interior being old....well I'm no spring chicken either any more but it's how you present yourself and this ship is no different....the decor is gorgeous. We did a few pacific Islands and pre booked our tours through the ship and had a great time being emersed in the culture and saw some amazing scenery. All our kids 3-17 attended kids clubs Turtle cove HQ and HQ+ and loved it experience. We also had EDGE packages. These were prepaid great for 7-25yrs. Our adults would probably pay per session next time as didn't get the value from pre purchasing. Thankyou from the bottom of our hearts for your passion to serve. Sad to see you retiring but hope to travel again with P&O and see some familiar faces. Read Less

Everything went perfectly on the cruise, went on a 7 night from melbourne around australia. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was excellent and was worth the money. We had a balcony cabin, Our cabin was abit tight but thats probably because i didnt know what to expect. The dining was perfect, weather it was the free buffet or the fine dining restaurants. The entertainment was really good. Didnt expect so much but was really happy. There was never a dull moment. Either in the day shows or the adult comedy shows or even sitting at a bar having a few drinks. I went with my partner and i advise couples to get the ultimate romance package. Very good value. The shore tours are good but have to book them in advance to get a good one and be prepared. But once again i cant stress enough the great service from all staff. Thank you guys so much for the wonderful journey Read Less

It was relaxing Cruise to South Australia with mininium Sea days and more ports which were great.Good cruise with Princess high quality of food probably need to change the menues as it is the same after a number of cruises we have travelled and the same with the entertainment especially the Dance shows currently five are repeated with different people. Tours were good and exciting. Need to improve dress standards in the dining rooms. All staff are friendly and helpfull especially the cabin stewards.Always something to do during the sea days and easily disembarkment on port days and could always find your tour with good transport to the cities if required. Princess cruises high standards have been maintained. The Golden Princess has been refurbished for the better with new carpets and better lighting in the dining rooms. Specilased shoping was good at reasonable prices and good specials on board,no hard sell. Very good cruise Read Less

We choose this cruise because was relatively cheap and great for short break. Pretty much everything was mediocre. Food very ordinary. The pantry was boring with the same food each morning. Desert station was good. The main restaurant wasn’t any better. We had really bad weather and there was not much information or updates. Never seen The Captain and I think I heard his voice twice during our 4 days cruise. Entertainment didn’t met my expectations until last night where everybody was enjoying good, old rock’roll. Cabin was old with very firm bed and worn flat pillows. Decor was very ordinary in need of updating. There was not enough attention from the crew towards people who were sick during the really rough sea. The cabin crew on the other hand was very helpful, polite and friendly. Cruising on Pacific Jewel was my first experience with P & O . Never again on Pacific Jewel! Read Less

We chose this series of Cruises as a cost effective way to increase the number of cruise nights for status recognition with Princess Cruises working towards Elite. We are based in Melbourne but flew to Sydney for a Comedy cruise to Melbourne, then Melbourne-Eden-Melbourne, then Melbourne-Hobart-Kangaroo Island-Melbourne (total 13 night). We were expecting a 3* experience and that and a little more was delivered. The Public rooms of the ship have been refurbished and are very pleasant to spend time in and the Waterfront MDR has a more intimate feel than the larger MDR's we have experienced. Ocean view Cabin (9182) was spacious for two, Cabin stewards very friendly, accommodating and responsive to ad hoc requests. Cabin cleaned well. MDR service varied between very good and below average with food OK, depending who the table staff were. Food was average compared to other cruise lines with less variety (reduced variety expected in selecting these cruises) Live Music was very good with a standard range of free activities (We didn't try any of the Edge Activities at an extra cost) Speciality restaurant (Salt) offered better quality food and attentive service but were pricey compared to other cruise lines ($AU 59 per head, wine extra) We have booked 3 short B2B cruises again for similar reasons as we took these cruises Read Less

This was our first cruise with Carnival and I have to say that I think it was our least favorite. That's not to say that it was bad, it just did not come up to the standard, overall of other cruises we have been on, this being our seventh cruise. Embarkation was smooth, but very little information was displayed and the staff did not tell you much at check-in. Other cruise lines issue the room key at check-in, but Carnival have it an envelope at your door which was not told to us until we asked and two different people told me different things???, The decor of the ship is......... how do you say.................unusual. Very dark and very unusual to the point of being gourde. Not to everyone's taste I am sure. Dark wall panels, lots of ancient style paintings and most of the coulombs were made to look like an urn. Our room was spacious and well appointed and the hotel staff, as always were excellent. The room was well laid out and even if it is the same size a other cabins we have been in it appeared larger and more spacious. We chose an inside cabin and ended up with a window with an obstructed view which was excellent. No you did not have a view of the ocean, but a large window with a view where you could see the sea whooshing by. Much better than just an inside cabin. The food, while of good quality, was not as good a variety as we expected. The Lido deck was very popular and busy and the amount of food outlets was too small to cater for the numbers. The free Pizzas and Hamburgers were good, but the wait could be considerable. The Truffles restaurant menu was not very appealing so I think most people chose to eat in the Lido deck buffet. As to the bar service, Carnival have chosen to have seats all around the bar leaving no room for service. Lots of people buy drink packages now and particularly on the first night you could not get near the bar. They need to take out three or four seats and have a sign "Service Only" so others can get to the bar and the bar tenders know who is next in line. Bar staff were very busy all the time because lots of people order cocktails, which take time to make. I just wanted a beer and my wife a wine, so we are always waiting for ages to get served, and only take a few minutes to serve and be on our way. The price for the three day cruise we did out of Melbourne was quite expensive for the three days. We have been on two day cruises that were a quarter the price. Overall, we enjoyed the cruise and the break, but of the seven cruises we have done this would be our least favorite. It would be appealing to people with children as they cater well for the younger set ad they boast that their cruise line carries the most families and children. Although very busy, all the staff were very helpful, happy and extremely hard working and we have no complaints about any of the staff. Read Less

In dire need of recharging our batteries after a very stressful year, wanted something that would let us have time before we needed to start seeing ports of call and this ftted the bill perfectly. Cannot fault any of the crew on this ship they were all awesome and did a wonderful job. they really made the whole experience for us pleasureable. We did not do many shows as we needed rest and relaxaton, picked the perfect cabin.. We were surprised at how many people who were using/needing some kind of aids were determined to use the tenders to go into ports as this cruise was 85% tenders, and the weather wasn't always good, The staff patience was unbelieveable and attetion to detail was flawless weappreciated everything they did. We are so looking forward to booking another cruise with princess, it will be easy to find something that wil impress Read Less

The crew, security and cleaning staff were all stellar. Melbourne folks are an absolute blast to party with. Carnival Liberty sells more alcohol than any other ship in the fleet largely due to the good folks from Melbourne's love for celebrating life to the fullest! If your looking for a glass-half-full trip then this is the one. It's also largely suitable for families, we could see no evidence of any impropriety.. just great great times. Truffles restaurant was great and they would break the dinner up with their dancing cabaret through the enthused diners. We didn't really try the buffet up on the Lido deck except for cooked breakfasts. The staff were so very courteous and helpful. They made the whole experience very personable one which I really love. The best advice I can give is don't try to participate in all the activities all the time - you will exhaust yourself. Just pace yourself and give yourself a little buffer to go and enjoy the view of Bass Straight from the observation deck. Read Less

I don’t know why I picked this one should have picked another one, ship looked run down toilets kept blocking food in the horizon court was poor quality more aimed towards the Asian market, prior dining room times and seating arrangement changed to anytime dining,I get the impression princess didn’t care about the passengers on this cruise bathroom in the public areas paper towel runs out and they put a box of tissues in to use to. Dry your hands entertainment average in the lounges and bars atmosphere was flat, Promenade was always beening closed, have a lot more to say but read the survey I filled in selling poor quality power adaptors that didn’t work no speciality restaurant like Curtis stones SHARE , or sterling steak house , so that just lets me know princess have a lack of communication unless it’s plus for them, I now refer to the golden princess as the goldenPig Read Less

To see New Zealand again on a third attempt to see Milford Sound and Auckland - plus catch up with friends in Wellington. One out of three happened! Tender service long and slow - long waits to disembark at ports and to get back on again, standing in rain and sun with no protection. Overcharging for drinks - limited day time activities, when at sea for more days than expected. Acceptable to not be able to enter Milford Sound with weather condition for safety reasons, but hey provide more things to do, lots of miserable and moaning faces. Auckland was also missed dearly for a lot of people unaware they could not catch up with family, due to technical difficulties (hey, can they not sort that out with 6 weeks prior to departure?) Most staff were lovely - a few very inexperienced and it reflected more as the cruise passed. Not as much entertainment as on previous cruises and as usual the slowest internet, that made even more people grumpier! A lot of money to pay to feel we couldn't wait to get home :( Read Less

The Pacific Eden is a lovely ship, with very spacious cabins, and luxurious bedding. This ship was a treat to move around, and all of the entertainment and dining areas were very well appointed. Some real blessings on this ship is that it is easy to find where your going, and has a bright and inviting feel. The floor shows were well presented, and very professional, and the bed in our cabin was the best and most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. These were the good points to mention, as I came aboard expecting to have a very poor experience, based on the many poor reviews this ship has received since it arrived onto the P&O fleet. Embarkation onto this ship was horrible in Melbourne, and it took us over two hours to get onboard from arrival at 12 noon. Why P&O don't recognise our Platinum status and priority Boarding with Princess, is just crazy? I feel this ship lacks good leadership, as customer service is atrocious on this ship, and staff seem to be going through the motions, and performing well below par. For starters, I never once met our cabin boy, and he never made any effort to meet with us, and he just never seemed to be around. Our cabin was always kept clean and tidy, so I do know he was around from time to time. Word of warning, upon arrival into our cabin, there was a very well presented robe and slipper package left on the bed, giving the impression it was complimentary with the cabin, and packaged as a take home pack, but if you turn over this package, there is a difficult to read note attached, stating that these goods would be charged to your account if it was taken home. The Main Dining room we were not impressed with, and the choices on the menu were poor, all meals arrived lukewarm, and lacked vegetables, also Ice cream was delivered to the table already melted. The staff were never engaging and showed no personality. Waiter staff asked to take my wife's cruise card back to the bar, just to confirm to them that she had the soft drink package sticker already attached. On day two we attended the Specialty Asian Restaurant and found the experience was better dining, however the portions were very small, and again the menu seemed lacking very much in choice. On day 3 we attended the Italian Speciality Restaurant, and believed this as being the best dining experience on the ship. This area seemed well managed, and the staff were engaging and friendly. Tender disembarkation, was just horrible on this ship, and it took well over 90 mins from receiving a tender ticket, before we were herded onto a tender. Staff were very sharp with their instructions, and the experience was not pleasant at all. Because of the delays getting passengers onto Kangaroo Island even the all day onboard tours were delayed in getting back to the ship by over an hour. So as you can see, customer service is very poor, and it all seems to stem from their Management right the way through to the staff. This is a shame as the Eden is really a beautiful ship in my eyes. One of the highlights for me, was viewing the floor show "Side Show Alley", which was one of the most entertaining shows I have ever seen on a cruise ship, and all of the entertainment was of a very high quality. Disembarkation was quick and without any issues. In summary, the Pacific Eden, will continue to get bad wraps, until Management take control of their customer service, and poor communication skills. The staff need to be more open and engaging, and the meals need to be delivered hot and tasty, all around the ship. Would I go back onto the Eden, yes I would, because when they get their customer service under control, this ship will shoot straight up onto the P&O leaderboard. What P&O need to do is recognise long term loyal passengers from their sister companies, and provide priority boarding along with the very few VIP guests they offer per cruise. Read Less
