As most of you know I can no longer go ashore but stay on the ship, Costa's team in Genoa & on board, made this cruise special for me, and a great big thanks to all involved in helping me cruise again. Firstly I had a loan of a wheelchair for the whole cruise, which proved wonderful as I could push myself round ship & to Club Dining room. The cabin (Suite) on deck seven was just the same as most other ships of the fleet, spacious, clean & really nice although we do prefer those aft we did like all the service provided by our Butler, who turned up three nights during the cruise & took me in the chair up to the dining room, certainly a call above their duty. The ship itself was kept beautifully clean as were the cabins, even though we are late risers & often only left the cabin just before lunch. Of our time on board we of course could tour the facilities without crowds, & I must say all seemed excellent and well supported on sea days. There really is plenty to keep you entertained by reading the Diario di Bordo daily you can plan ahead, although to be fair it does take some understanding at first. One down side on this particular cruise the English host was not as friendly as most, we always make a point of contacting them whenever we get the chance, but it seemed she was not willing to chat. The only time we really got to know her was at the Wine Tasting where she talked about herself while the host described the wine. On to the restaurant we ate in the Club Dining Room on deck Eleven lovely surroundings but very limited choices, although I do agree that food waste must be reduced on all cruise lines to stop un-necessary wastage, this went beyond that Taste & Flavour had given way to presentation Lots of plates were returned particularly the beef which seemed to be on the menus nightly, either under or over cooked. But don't be put off with these comments although I am a fussy eater I manage to find some nice every meal, if a plate was returned they always offered you either a better replacement or different dish, Costa now serve the same choices in every restaurant which does reduce waste. Would we cruise on the Favolosa again one of the nicest friendliest ship we have been on. Read Less

I have cruised before, but my wife had not, and she was looking for "an over the top" experience". So I began searching for big ships doing the Mediterranean in November. MSC had a lot of ships and the Meraviglia is one of the top 10 largest ships afloat, very new, and the video was amazing. The reviews however, were anything but amazing. Like lukewarm and even negative reviews about our favorite restaurants, I have learned that most negative reviews are more about missed/too lofty expectations than reality. The biggest gripes about the Meraviglia seemed to be food and staff. Since the boat is so high tech and wondrously equipped, no one really complained about the ship. Sure enough, even our tablemates as well as others on board echoed the Cruise Critic complaints. They ranged from now having butter and iced tea (both free, readily available) to non English speaking staff who were "unfriendly". If your attitude is "I am the guest and I expect to be served", you will be disappointed. If you engage the staff with your own smile and understand they work 11 hours a day, even my first time cruising wife was amazed at how every waiter and staff person smiled back.....even when they had to say "no" (like when we were late for dinner and the gatekeeping waiter apologized saying he was not allowed to let anyone in past 7:45, so I asked him to ask for his captain, which he did, and of course, the captain, his boss, let us in). MSC offers the lowest prices afloat for the most interesting itineraries and the newest boats.....but unless you are traveling Yacht Club, you just cant expect white glove service--but you can expect politeness and cleanliness and entertainment and "service". And we got all of this and more. Dinner. We only ate at the standard Waves Restaurant. Three sittings, We were the second. The appetizers and desserts were great, the entrees, though varied were not as good and need improvement. Not to worry though because the astonishing buffet, open 20 hours a day, had stupendous selections of excellent food from simple salads, to homemade pizza, Halal and ethnic specialties, rotisserie *the roast veal carved to order was smashing), plus an on board mozzarella factory (you could see it being made) that ensured great caprese salads and more. And they changed the offerings every day! Housekeeping. In a word, perfect. No goofy doorknob hangers telling staff to clean up the room. Just press a button. Spotless. The Room. We opted for an admidships deck 12 interior cabin because my wife was worried about seasickness. The cabin was huge, with a queen plus bed, great pillows, lighting, etc And the bathroom has the best shower afloat in my experience with infinite hot water! And a blow dryer!. Staff. What a great group of waiters and support staff rom Central America to Ukraine and Africa. Just knocked themselves out to please! It surely helped that we engaged them instead of treating them like servants. Prices: For 5Euros we got any two items delivered free to our room. Drinks were 6Euros. The best ice cream and chocolate (made on the boat) were $1-3Euros. The coffee, water, tea, ice tea, etc. were all free at the buffet. So no complaints about the "extras" The experience: 32 elevators, four pools, an arcade full of shops, sky bars, full size basketball court, full size bowling alleys and a water slide that went OVER the edge of the ship, outstanding singing and dancing "Broadway" type shows and Swarovski glass staircases made onboard life hugely satisfying. The guests. Where were all the seniors? This was the first cruise I have ever been on where there were so many families, disabled people, young honeymooners, babies, kids, etc. from so many different countries. A true multi-cultural experience. Our table mates were from the Dominican Republic (an MD and his wife), honeymooners from Colombia, and a couple from Florida. A great itinerary and all of the above for $1300 for 7 nights? Yup, and we cant wait to go again! Read Less

It was my 6th Cruise with MSC. Have earlier tried cruising with Orchestra, Poesia, Divina and Preziosa. Was good and value for money. Now should I try the new one. Meraviglia. Balcony cabin was nice. Breakfast and lunch in the Markedplace buffet was ok. Could also go to the restaurant in the ship and get it a la carde, but in the evening I was forced to go to the Markedplace restaurant. No carpets on the floor and very noicy up there. The waiters was not good. Forgot several times my orders. Said to the receptionist that I couldn't accept to be placed in this restaurant in the evenings. I would have to be placed in one of the main restaurants in the ship on deck 5 and 6. Here is a nice atmosphere, but it was not possible, because the ship was overbooked they told me. They put me on a waitinglist and then I dit not hear anything from them. The evening at Galla, 3 waiters came during the restaurant with the icecakes. After starter and main course I asked about the ice. There were no ice. Then they gave me a card so I could choose an another dessert. Think that they took the ice to the main restaurants. There were no photographs during the nights in the Markedplace restaurant, but in the gallery we could see all the photos from the main restaurants. Dissapointed. The show in the theater was bad. Not the same quality as on the other ships. Cirque du Soleil did we no see. Then you had to pay at least 15 euro. The bars was ok, especially the pub onboard. Very nice waiters here. Will not recommend this ship. Choose one of the other ships or another company. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we were told the food was French and gourmet. Well, the food ok but not great. Also the destinations were very good: Sicily, Crete, Greece and Corsica. Ship is a bit old, but the crew were very nice and always helpful and polite. We started to return to Marseille, FR from Greek Katakolon GR with a full day at sea on 18th of October 2016. We were schdeuled to stop and visit Adjaccia, Corsica on 19th. After that we were to proceed to Marseille, FR arriving the monring of the 20th. Events changed things. About 22:30 PM on the 18th a public announcemnet indicated that we were changing course for Naples, Italy becuase one of the passengers was very ill and need to be hospitized as soon as possible. We were to arrive in Naples about 3:00 AM on the19th to drop off this passenger and then proceed non-stop to Marseille, FR. The stop at Adjaccio, Corsica was cancelled for 1700 passengers. with no mention of compensation. We and many other passengers were very dissapointed. We discovered that the ship was to disembark all of us and immediately pick up 1700 new passengers to embark at 17:00 PM. It seemd to us that we were now just some cargo. We would not have taken this cruise if we had known that over 80% of the passengers were over 80 years old. There were many people in wheelchairs. On Wednesday, the 19th, mid afternoon the Italian Air force had to send a rescue team in a helicopter to airlift a 93 year old man to Livorno, Italy. We later discovered that 4 other people had been disembarked in ports along the way because of health issues. Smoking was permitted in some areas. This is not good Excellent captain - very precise movement and control of a large ship. This ship has good stabilizers. Nice music in bars in evening, but sets were always too short, no more than 45 minutes. Internet was poor by satellite MTN out of Miami, Florida. Various payment plans - Example 100 minutes for 39 Euros. The software design for Internet was very bad. Some kinds of alcoholic drinks were free, but we had to pay for mineral water. Some of the outside restrooms awere dirty and smelled bad. - others were ok. Carpets in the hallways were dirty, stained and worn as was the carpeting on the stairways. We had 5 days of problems with the front desk re our credit. It was actually a problem in their databases and information management. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had never been to France on river cruise. This trip was in our top three favorite vacations of all time. Viking Cruises, in our opinion, is the best way to travel abroad and get the most bang for your buck. The Cruise personal are second to none. They seem to make it their mission to get to know every passenger and try to meet all of their needs. The boat, in our second experience, only holds 190 passengers so we get to meet lots of fun and interesting individuals. We have made lasting friends on both of our cruises. We are in the process of planning our third cruise with a couple we met on our most recent cruise. All of the cruise personnel are professional, kind, friendly and very helpful in every way. They sincerely care that you have the best experience possible on their cruises. The food and service and service personnel are second to none. Everyone needs to experience a Viking Cruise. We are planning our third cruise. Read Less

We booked very much last minute, and didn't pay a lot, so didn't expect much...how wrong we were! The connections from the airport to the ship was easy, embarkation stress-free, and on arrival in our cabin, we were pleased with the space allocated, as well as the standard of the room and its furnishings. As good as any other we have been on. The food in the buffet restaurants was fresh, varied and tasty, with something to suit everyone. Staff are always on hand to offer assistance, and to get drinks, as well as clearing away empty plates efficiently. The restaurant, New York, New York, served food as good as any quality restaurant in London, and we said every night that we would have willingly paid a lot of money for food and drink of that standard. The service was on the same level, and all staff very helpful, friendly & cheerful. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone, and it seemed that their only wish was to please us, and they succeeded, so much so, that we are already looking at booking another Costa cruise. Before we left home, we were the butt of many jokes from family & friends because we were travelling "Costa" but the joke really was on them as we had such a great time!! Read Less
