I had Read so many reviews slating this ship - so decided see for myself. Big mistake! Should have avoided! Food stone cold. Restaurant rush you through your meals. 5 courses in 40 minutes! The only thing good is the drinks package because we wouldn't have got through this trip without it! Service appalling. No one around to serve if you want a drink in the pool area. Staff non existent in bars except behind it. Staff give the impression they really do not want to be working for this company. Thank God it was for only 4 nights. I feel sorry for people booked for two months! Cabins dated and awful. Nothing to do in the day. Disabled beware as very little facilities to get on and off at ports. Never again. Miles to civilisation once on shore. Complained but too late - they already had my money so they are not bothered. You have been warned! Read Less

I’ve read some of the negatives about this ship but we were pleasantly surprised. Don’t take any notice of the whingers! It’s not ‘old’; it’s well maintained, spotless, and very comfortable. We chose this cruise because it sailed out from Greenock in Scotland and we were visiting Scotland from Australia at the time. We chose a cabin on Columbus deck and were pleasantly surprised to find our cabin had two big square windows looking out over the deck outside, and clear views to the sea and land. The cabin was an adequate size for the two of us. Embarkation was brilliant - it took us less than 15 minutes to check in, our luggage was whisked away, and we were shown to our cabin. The international crew were fantastic: friendly, helpful, interested and hard working. We loved every aspect of the Marco Polo - the meals in both the Bistro and the Waldorf Dining Room were excellent with a huge variety to choose from. Our wine waiter at dinner was knowledgeable & friendly. So what if the bacon was tough! There were plenty of other things to choose from. Apart from looking at the view, and relaxing on deck, there weren't many planned activities during the day. It would have been good to have daily yoga or fitness classes for those of us who like to participate. Frilly scarf making, jewellery making, quizzes and Bingo were mostly the only activities. Art classes would have been great every day rather than only occasionally. The shore excursions were quite expensive. We chose only the Flam Railway tour and could have done that ourselves by buying tickets at Flam Railway Station. Other than that, we did our own excursions on shore by foot. We had some wonderful dinner companions each night and all enjoyed each other's company. The Greek Captain mingled with the passengers every day, and invited my husband up onto the bridge one morning which was a highlight. The after-dinner shows were entertaining and lots of fun. The entertainment group were an energetic young group of very talented singers and dancers and we enjoyed their slick performances. The crew worked hard, as a well-oiled team, and everything ran to clockwork. All in all it exceeded my expectations and we had a wonderful 9 days. Can't wait for the next one! Read Less

My husband has a few mobility problems and a couple of years ago we decided that cruising might be our way forward. We were fortunate to chose Marco Polo for our first cruise as the crew really go the extra mile for passengers. We have since returned twice, the latest trip being to the Baltic. Every time we find that there are crew members on board who always remember us and make us feel at home. It has enabled us to visit places that would be unattainable otherwise. The food is varied and the stewards always made sure that we had a nice meal even when the menu offering did not offer something to our taste (that did not happen very often!) Our cabin stewards have all been excellent and looked after us well and you have not lived until you meet the wonderful "Lovely Jubley" our poolside and breakfast chef. He is quite a character and makes everyone feel good with his chat! On arrival at Leith we had our cases taken and were told they would be outside our cabin next time we saw them (and they were) We were then directed to a bus which took us to Rosyth as there had been a last minute change of departure port, there we joined a queue to check in which did not take to long, from there we were taken through the port by bus to the ship and boarded right away. Because of time changes we were directed to Marco's Bistro for lunch before heading to our cabin. All went quite smoothly The ship is well maintained with ongoing maintenance throughout the cruise. Oh! we have just booked another trip to add to the 2 already in the pipeline. Says it all I think. See you soon folks. Read Less

After reading a few mixed reviews for the Marco Polo, we were a little dubious to say the least. We could not have been happier. The ship, although this is not a luxury 5 star liner, I can only compare her to Royal Brittania! She is a truly wonderful old lady, a little noisy, but her elegant Art Deco furnishings are a delight. Our room, although small and compact, was all that we needed. The single beds, were the most comfiest beds we have slept in - we are convinced they were memory foam matresses! (Much better than P&O's beds!!!) Having Rod Stewart and Frank Sinatra singing seductively via the in-house radio, wonderful 1920/40's music was heaven. We chose the 8.30pm dining, and were seated with a lovely couple, and "Rocky" our waiter could not have done enough for us, and he always had a friendly and welcoming smile. Although the weather in Amsterdam & Antwerp could have been a little kinder to us, we had a fantastic time, and I would recommend Marco Polo to anyone - I have since booked another trip for August 2012 aboard her sister ship "Ocean Countess" and I am sure she will be able to match or maybe even better the Marco Polo. Well Done to Cruise and Maritime, I hope to sail aboard the Marco Polo again in the near future. Read Less
