The ship was super clean, the crew were very friendly and the food was great. My husband wanted to go on a Transatlantic since he previously worked on a cruise ship. We went with 2 other couples. Weather was warm and calm. Overall a great first cruise! The camel ride and tour of the Volcanic National Park on Lanzarote was a definite highlight of the shore excursions. We stopped at 3 Canary Islands and Nassau. I thought the days at sea may be boring, but they were not. We enjoyed the art auctions, trivia contests and exercise activities. This was a great value trip. We bought the deluxe drink package and enjoyed all of the specialty coffees and drinks. The crew made a special point to make sure we were happy with all food choices and were quick to make things right. Overall a great experience--liked it so much we are doing it next year from Rome! I wanted to do a Transatlantic and the price was really good on this one. I don't usually sail on Royal, but I couldn't say no to this cruise. The ship itself was wonderful and the crew was fantastic! The only real downfall in my estimation was the dining. What I really enjoyed was the friendliness of the staff from the room stewards to the Captain. They worked very hard to keep us happy and entertained and they succeeded! The ports of call were excellent as well. We started from Malaga Spain which is a real hidden treasure in Spain. Wonderful city with a lot of things to see and great food! We stopped at Lanzarote, Grand Canaria and Tenerife, 3 of the Canary Islands. They are just amazing to see and go back to, volcanic islands with fascinating scenery and all different. I had just been to 2 of the 3 in April this year and was happy to be there again. The last stop was Nassau which I've been to many times so nothing really exciting, but I'm sure there were many on the ship that had not been there before. I would do this cruise again and on this ship in spite of the dining disappointment. Read Less

We knew this was an older ship, but the price was right and the ports of call were interesting. Also, we've been on the mega ships and are a bit tired of the floating malls. We were looking forward to enjoy the real cruise feeling of the smaller ships again. We were not disappointed. The ship was in great shape. A little wear and tear in places, but everything works. The cabin we had was very quiet, had lots of storage and the shower was great. Good water pressure, nice hot and no temperature fluctuations like we often find in newer ships. With the exception of one guy at the future cruise sales desk, the crew was very friendly and eager to please. Outstanding was the diningroom service (Tatiana, Jan and Maria - we love you). Entertainment was average, and the cruise director was excellent. If there is any improvements that could be made, its in the entertainment venue. It does look ancient. During the first two days, the food was marginal (strange spices, luke warm soups). But then, for some reason, it got much better. To the point where I would say the food was outstanding. Meats were great, especially the roast beef. Soups were nice and hot, and desserts were top of the line! I understand the Chef is an Austrian pastery chef, and it definitely shows. Would I go again? Absolutely. In fact, we're considering a little Caribbean hop on this ship in the spring. Read Less
