My wife and I are platinum level cruisers, needless to say we have stayed true to Princess. We decided to try the newest in the Princess fleet that is the Majestic Princess, unfortunately the experience was not what we expected. The atmosphere we experienced on previous cruises with Princess on obviously smaller ships (Golden princess, Diamond Princess, Sea Princess) was not there. On this occasion it was just as if Princess have focused on getting as much as possible from passengers, giving very little back...No more happy hour...Elite/Platinum special afternoon get together s were dismal to say the least. Overall a very average cruise experience definitely not up to Princess standard...Hopefully it will not be the standard for future cruises, because if not then a lot of regular Princess cruises will be looking at other cruise lines. Ship:- A beautiful ship - clean and definitely Majestic Cabin:- Balcony cabin M629 was great with all anyone could ask for..No noise with easy access to lifts - stairs - buffet area and the Wake Bar at the very rear of the ship. Dining:- We had anytime dining and did not experience any problems getting a table. We were however disappointed with the meals on several occasions. Meat was not cooked (raw) one one occasion not edible. Other dishes were very repetitious and bland, definitely not as described. The buffet was as expected for the first two days, but it never changed ????what you saw to-day is what you got tomorrow.... Entertainment: Went to the Theater once and saw a juggler and comedian...great show Went once to a Princess production show and did not go again...It was loud and suitable for a very young audience, certainly not for the majority of older folk. In cabin TV was great with a good selection of the latest movies... Activities:- A good selection of daytime programs to suit most tastes. most of which were around the Atrium area of the ship. If you could get a table... Service:- Could not fault the service from any area of the ship...staff were always ready to assist and help. Ports:- Having done this cruise twice before we were familiar with the ports visited, however still enjoyed every aspect every time. Shore Excursions:- I guess this is always a bone of contention for regular cruises as they are aware that the cost of an excursion from Princess is going to be far more expensive than purchasing from local operators..Always a good idea to do your research before buying an excursion from the ship. Drinks:- One would think that sailing duty free ect would be great, sadly this is not the case. The average price of a beer was around $8.95 with the price of a glass of average wine was $10 per glass. A bottle of wine for which we would purchase in Australia for around $10-$12 per bottle, started at $46 and went up from there. I, like the majority of cruises who enjoy an ale or glass of wine consider this to be exorbitant. If you dont drink at all thats fine but an average Aussie considers this a part of the social experience and looks forward to it. The so called Duty Free alcohol on board the ship is just ridiculous, you can buy better from Dan Murphy on a regular day. Why Princess and other cruise lines think that passengers are silly is beyond me. Conclusion:- A big ship and definitely an experience, but for a regular older (65+) cruiser I would probably choose a more traditional ship, I can go down to Westfield Plaza and sit in a coffee shop and have the same if not a better atmosphere. We loved the itinerary, but were so disappointed to find that our excursion had been cancelled last minute by Princess with no offer to help replace it. So we were on our own in Wellington. Then the ship had a delay with fog in Dunedin and could not dock an hour later because the tides were too low for this immense ship. The one Princess excursion to Waitupo and Rainbow Springs that was not cancelled was excellent! We also loved the Milford Sound fiords day. The entertainment on the ship was also very good, with Magic, Encore, and musical productions. It’s important to get there at least 30 minutes ahead if you want a seat though. Restaurant service in Anytime Dining was good with Ferdie as our favorite waiter. We were also extremely frustrated with erroneous bar charges that took multiple trips to the desk over several days, along with phone calls. Each time we were assured that it was corrected only to find that was not true. ( We had ordered just two glasses of wine one night but were charged for six!). These were finally corrected just an hour before we debarked. All of this left a very bad taste with Princess! We have never experienced problems like this on other cruises including Norwegian, Holland America, Gate One, or Azamara. We have already scheduled future cruises with Azamara and Celebrity, and will probably not sail on a large Princess ship again. Read Less

We have previously sailed with all the big liners so the decision to book with Princess was a no brainer! Princess are at the top their game?? Are they not?? Or so we are led to believe!! We booked 12 months in advance and couldn’t wait for our trip to come around - We booked and paid for all specialty dining and shore excursions prior to departure - However 3 of our 7 shore excursions were cancelled prior to sailing and we were told via email that the money would be returned to us in the same manner it was paid ie; into our bank account - Yet it wasn’t, after 3 weeks we had received nothing, so we contacted Princess to query where our refund was? We were informed that the money had been credited to our “onboard” account?? Yet we were not even on board?? Are you serious? We didn’t cancel these bookings, Princess cancelled these bookings (and well before sailing) and only after requesting to speak with the manger were we provided with the refund we were entitled!! So our cruise finally arrives, we pre-ordered drinks and snacks for our balcony ready for the sail out of Sydney - 4pm The prawns were described as 10 pieces served on ice with cocktail sauce?? What eventually arrived was 50+ pieces of frozen, unclean, wet, slimy, imported prawns .. Bait prawns could be helpful in describing what arrived but even bait prawns are bigger than the rubbish that we received .. I called room service and advised them that the product we received was definitely not as described on the menu and requested a full refund!!! The room seadvice mgr agreed that the product was of very poor quality and agreed to the refund - Once again credited to our on board account! It’s becomming clearer that Princess will rip you off every chance they get - The passenger must pay even though the cruise company is at fault!! Three days in and another 3 shore excursions are cancelled - We receive notice the night before each excursion (because that’s plenty of time to make new plans for the day ahead) But this time we actually got a an explanation - “Not enough people were interested in the excursion you booked” Well Princess, if you know that your clientele is 80% elderly, why on earth offer excursion options like quad biking, 4 wheel driving and jet boating that only appeal to the odd 20% of passengers? Only to disappoint them and cancel the night before? Maybe you need to revise your excursion options .. This cruise was one problem after another, not only for us but it was common talk amongst guests the the shore excursions were problems for many of them, with cancellations the night before, changes to excursion itineraries without notice, excursion duration shorter than described, itineraries not as described, meals not as described, locations not as described - All common problems with no apologies, reimbursements or refunds .. Honestly, we couldn’t wait to get off the ship, we had very little options on board once our excursions were cancelled .. We saw very little of the country we had paid so much money to see!! We didn’t pay top dollar to stare at the 4 walls of our stateroom, yet that’s exactly what happened! The dining room food was ordinary, not much variety, even the buffet was lacking in appeal .. The specialty restaurants were nice, but we also pay more $$ for these so no surprises here!! This list of problems we had goes on, but who has all day to read about it?? The ship is beautiful, immaculate and the employes are wonderful but unfortunately this doesn’t make up for the personal expense of such a poor experience .. We could have flown to NZ and seen much more for half the cost of this cruise .. Not happy princess, never again! Read Less

First, readers should know that if the itinerary of the Majestic suits your desire, I would not let my negatives dissuade you from booking this ship. This particular cruise covers a good part of Australia and most of New Zealand. Embarkation in Sydney was fairly smooth with the exception of one of our suitcases arriving at our cabin soaked with water pretty much through and through. Everything was wet and we had not even left the dock! The cabin steward and staff were exceptionally helpful though, and they agreed to wash, dry, and hang everything in the suitcase and return it to us within a few hours. They kept their promise and, of course, there was no charge. Our balcony cabin was quite comfortable with more then enough room for all our belongings. The bathroom was about as small as I have seen on a ship. Not an inch more then absolutely required. We ate virtually all of our meals in the dinning room where we found excellent service and a good choices at every meal. The food was beautifully presented and, and always adequate. Steaks were my last choice as they were the least appealing. Fish and pasta wishes were much better. This voyage had 5 sea days including 3 back to back sea days. While others may find the on board activities to their liking, I am not a fan of art auctions, karaoke, gambling, shopping or zumba. There were a few lectures about culture and sightseeing but really not enough for my taste. My main complaint is the.that the ship seemed unable to handle the 3500 or more guests she can accommodate. There were two shows each evening in the Princess Theater and guests would need to arrive as much as 45 minutes early to be sure of a seat. The entertainment staff found this amusing and suggested we "camp out" in front of the door to insure ourselves a seat. Cute, but not really funny. However, if you don't care about the shows or like to stay up a bit later and catch the late show, this will not be bothersome. The shows themselves were lavishly produced and the local talents were enjoyable enough. Princess says that saving chairs on deck is not permitted, however, its unlikely any crew member would enforce this and as far as I am concerned, they should have a contest for the most creative deck-chair saving method. I was quite impressed with the one shoe method. The Majestic Princess is a large ship- about 144,000 MT. She seemed designed to insulate passengers from the sea. From the window-less theater through the main deck 7 with heavy curtains or the dinning rooms with small windows, passengers rarely see the sea. Some readers might enjoy this as you can easily forget you are moving at 17 or more knots and will be delighted to see a new port when you open your windows in the morning. This observation is strictly personal. Finally, disembarkation, with so many passengers was a bit hectic but we were off the ship and our way in a bout 90 minutes after we left our cabin. Read Less

The ship was excellent though too big. We had a balcony cabin on the 16th floor very good with unobstructed views. The staff couldn't be faulted.always smiling even though 50% of elderly passengers were rude and demanding without manners.!!! The children on board were better behaved with better manners than some adults. Not enough seating in the indoor entertainment area's of the ship.(piazza and the theatre's) had to get to an area for the show you wanted to see at least 45mins early. No area around the ship for a good walk the promanade deck only went up each side of the ship and very narrow. The market dining area we felt left left a lot to be desired. most food cooked in oils or butter, no plain or steamed food, no sandwich making facilities. Even though there were several area's of choice the food daily was same, same. The resturaunts were fantastic especially the pizza and sympony dining.the hamburger bar on the deck was good too. Too many people just walking in the dining area's without washing there hands. worry about nova virus with poor hand hygiene. The excursions were fantastic and the tour guides very good value for money and saw a lot of the islands. The ships staff getting you on and of the ship did a fantastic job with the number of people most of them very pushy and rude to the staff and other passengers. We went on this cruise to celebrate our 50th wedding had a fantastic day but because of limited entertainment seating indoors when the weather was too cold to sit on deck we spent most afternoons in our cabin watching the TV . could have done that at home.will go on another princess cruise but will go on a smaller ship. Getting on and off the ship was expidited with reasonable speed at the begining and end of the voyage. couldn't fault that. Overall feeling was that the ship catered for the Chinese and American market rather than the Australian. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was one of only a few options going to Fiji, which was my son's choice for his grad trip. We haven't cruised Princess before and thought this one-year old ship would be a grand experience. While owning "The Love Boat" theme and it's integration throughout was a cool touch, overall the ship and experience was average compared to other carriers / ships. Cabin size was disappointing (we were in a PREMIUM! - I'm 6'2" and this was a ship built for the Asia market so I guess I should have expected it), dining was good (not great), entertainment was good but limited, service was actually not very good, and excursions varied dramatically. Generally the ship was built for cabins, not venues - and so we ran out of things to do quickly - especially on multi-days at sea. It was very much a senior cruise - as are most 10+ day cruises. Expected. The itinerary was great although I would question the Noumea port. Not much to see in the city so without an excursion it was boring at best. We *really* depend on the carrier to provide good solid port information - probably a lesson learned there. Sydney is an EXCELLENT port from which to embark/disembark - especially at sunset. This cruise was its initial cruise from Shanghai to Sydney via Korea, Hong Kong, Nha Trang, Saigon, Singapore, Darwin, Brisbane to Sydney. As an experienced Princess cruiser I was very disappointed at the start, but over 22 days the service improved markedly. Primarily, the problem was the lack of experienced waiters and chefs, and inadequate numbers of staff overall. The ship had been crewed by many Chinese and they left the ship in Shanghai to be replaced by a very large number of inexperienced staff. The situation improved when more staff were loaded in Singapore. The food was very disappointing as it rarely matched the menu. Too often the food was poorly cooked or sometimes not cooked at all! I had never experienced a dining room on Princess where at times there were no supervisors present and no waiters - they were all out the back trying to find meals. I wrote an extensive report on our experiences as the voyage progressed which was passed to Princess at the completion of the voyage. I hope they read my comments (and that of many others who also submitted reports) and have made significant improvements. The cabins (mini suite) were OK but smaller than normal. The cabin staff were excellent, always courteous and helpful. I wrote much more on our experiences but readers can get the idea. I expect Majestic Princess will improve on all its Pacific voyages. Overall the voyage was pleasant but not up to the standard of Princess. Read Less

I chose this cruise from COSTCO as i trust Costco for most major purchases. My wife and I had been thinking about a cruise for some time. This cruise was visiting many countries we wanted to see; Shanghai, Hong kong, Japan, Vietnam, South Korea, Thailand and Singapore. Boarding was very time consuming, about 2 hours, long queues. After a day at sea I got a really bad sore throat like swallowing a razor, in the morning it was not too bad but by late afternoon I was taking 3 advils at a time for the pain, this lasted until we deboarded finally, a day later i was okay. went to their medical but they wanted 95 bucks just for initial consultation, so i just put up with it. i never found out the cause, it was not a virus. Their restaurants wanted 29 bucks a head for speciality dining, like a steak or something, which i thought was way over priced considering we paid for meals. I read somewhere else, someone saying their food quality was equivalent to Mall court food - this is a good assessment. Staff were friendly and helpful. getting off at the ports was time consuming, the first port was Hakata in Japan, lots of pshing and shoving by guests to get off, i had one british woman try to climb over me and my backpack in the queue. typical of british women. i’d say the guests were 60% Aussie/NZ, 25% UK, 10% Asian and 5% USA. Cabins were nice but very small, bathroom were a total squeeze. Read Less

We are 'elite' rating and have travelled on many Princess ships. We were happy until now. Here is our summary, first the good part: food as good, piazza is lovely, lots of things similar to other Princess ships. But here is the bad part: cabin seemed smaller, 17th deck walking track is user unfriendly as you just cannot keep walking but have to enter the basketball court and exit on each walking round (strange design), walking track is dangerous when wet (I fell), definately do not board this ship if you want to smoke! The smoking area on the 17th deck is totally exposed to wild sea weather. Assuming you were indeed able to light your cigarette be careful as the ash flies around in the strong sea winds and may burn holes into your clothes. But if it rains just forget smoking alltogether as there is no rain protection at all.The seats could be easily dried with a towel when the rain stops, but you will have to do this yourself most likely. Could not see staff there for some time after the ra I n stopped. Not enough ashtrays and small tables but after Kuala Lumpur more ashtrays arrived. One more thing. Why on earth would Princess enter an Indian port (Cochin)??? Getting the visas was a challenge and extremely expensive ($A200 per person for us). Add to that the immigration entry fiasco on the day of our arrival in Cochin (it took almost 2 hours to go ashore!) and one wonders why an experienced cruise line would punish their passengers with this? So, to sum up, do not book this ship if you smoke or enjouy doing your rounds on a walking deck. How will the Chinese/Asian customers (who tend to smoke a lot?) Cope with this ship? What kind of ship design/market research people does Princess hire? Read Less

we chose this cruise as it was a new ship and wanted to try Princess cruising. we chose the wrong ship for the Princess experience. our cabin was good (mini-suite), but every time it rained, the balcony was flooded and took quite a long time to empty - no drainage - therefore there was already signs of rusting on the paintwork. the ship is lovely, but poorly set out. no quiet bar areas with just light music to sit and enjoy. all areas very open and noisy. the buffet had good choice of food, but never hot. always luke warm!. anytime dining completely separate to seated dining, felt like second class passengers! food just so so! again always warm not hot!!! Alfredo's (pizza/pasta) was excellent, soup delicious & hot, pizzas wonderful. Crown Grill also delicious, but noisy as it is open to their bar area. the crew on the whole were excellent. found the chinese crew not so, didn't seem happy to be on the ship. the cruise director should go back to cruise directors school, he and his group were boring. the casino area and so called VIP gaming lounges always smelt of cigarettes as you were allowed to smoke in them. phew!!!!! the tours were expensive and poorly organised, ending up cancelling 2 of ours. not enough time in most ports! and why oh why would the crew be sanding back the varnished outside stairs and re varnishing when ship only 3 months old?? so ship always smelt of varnish or paint - again phew!!!! photographers took boring photos, same ole poses...they need to try modernising their sittings and take better photos. although we had a good cruise and relaxed and enjoyed our holiday, this has put us off doing another Princess cruise. definitely enjoyed Holland America & Canrival cruises more. I dont think building a ship for a specific market (Chinese) has worked! and to cap it off most of the cruise half of the public toilets were out of order! Read Less
