We decided on a cruise around Britain departing on the 7th April for my partners birthday on the 19th when we returned home .I have to say we were very- very disappointed with every aspect except the cabin as it was spacious for a small ship .The food was like a load of cardboard at breakfast in the upstairs bistro ( if you could obtain a seat ) often undercooked and only warm with no small yogurts only in dishes with no indication as to the content even in the restaurant it was a bit hit and miss as you sat any where as a lot of the fellow passengers seemed reluctant to talk as only the Americans & Canadians seemed chatty as the class structure is still alive . At night in the allocated restaurant the servers were very surly with very small helpings and often only warm as my partner sent hers back nearly every time compared to other ships it was very poor more like a cross channel ferry . As for the entertainment it did not last even an hour with passengers saving seats often rows of them so only the poorest seats available with no interaction with the crew as I did mention the seat situation but it was met with deaf ears .Talking of the crew we noticed that there was very poor communication skills as I did not meet one British person wearing a uniform it seemed the norm just to laugh at the passengers and they would go away. There are better cruise companies and ships so do your home work. Read Less

We had cabin 5016, small but with an extremely comfortable queen sized bed, plenty of room for clothes and spotlessly clean. We found the whole cruise extremely enjoyable, staff friendly & efficient, food absolutely amazing, plenty of activities and good entertainment. Information onboard was good, other passengers very friendly, the ship was easy to negotiate and we thought just a nice size. Plenty of sunbeds on various decks and always a quiet corner if you wanted that. Would not hesitate to book again, very good value for money- well done CMV. Don't know where the negative comments come from, if you want to pay thousands for a cruise do so, but don't be so negative - its a holiday- just enjoy it. All the staff onboard just wanted everyone to have a good time , you can't ask for more. Read Less

I have to agree with ThomasUK. We have also just returned from trip to Fjords, sailing from Newcastle. From embarkation, very quick, to leaving, the staff were efficient, cheerful and helpful. Our cabin steward was excellent and couldn't do enough to help, our waiter in one of the main dining rooms was always smiling and nothing was too much trouble, his young assistant likewise. Everywhere around the ship the staff greeted the passengers with a smile. yes the ship is old but it is spotlessly clean and it is unfair to compare it to other lines, it is half the price. Food and entertainment were very good. I unfortunately needed the services of the medical team but again they were first class. Cabins are not large but enough for two people and beds were comfortable. My only complaint would be the noise from the engine during the night but that is no one's fault. All in all it was an enjoyable cruise with breath taking scenery in the fjords. Read Less

I sailed from Dundee, not Newcastle but the option to put that on the review wasn’t there! First cruise for me and I went alone. Boarding was quick, efficient and simple. Plenty of staff to show you the way to your cabin. I felt the whole trip (to the Norwegian fjords) was extremely good value for money. Excursions were well organised and informative. On board activities were fun and well attended. The restaurants were efficient, friendly staff and good food. The Chef’s Table was a superb evening. Book it if you get a chance. Cabin was clean and spacious and tended twice daily. If I had read some of the awful reviews before going I might have cancelled but I have absolutely no complaints. This isn’t a 5 star luxury miner so if you want that, go elsewhere. It is a small(ish) friendly ship which I really loved. I will sail with this company again. Read Less

Chose this ship and cruise because I didn't want to holiday on a ship that held thousands! Was my first cruise on a larger ship, having only done river cruises, so was a bit apprehensive, but once embarked, everything went smoothly, and I didn't find the amount of passengers on board too daunting. This was a cruise that included the Shetlands and Orkneys, as well as Iceland and I enjoyed every port of call. I thought Rekyavik was beautifully clean and fresh, as was Lerwick and Kirkwall. Disembarkation too went smoothly and I was off the ship in less than 10 minutes. Personally I wouldn't use Raffles self service as it was a free for all and seating was difficult to find, plus many persons were lacking in manners! So I dined all three meal servings in one of the two waited restaurants, and I couldn't fault the service from waiters and most days the food was good. As for the show entertainment in the theatre - well, I've seen many West End productions and the shows on the Magellan excelled and were thoroughly enjoyable. All-in-all, generally for me it was a very good cruise and value for the money I paid. We did encounter some rough seas - only to be expected in that area, but if you were careful, and took heed of the advice given, walking around on ship was easily negotiable. And sea sick pills were given out free from reception desk! Read Less

We booked to go on the Easter Getaway and River Seine Cruise as I so wanted to go again to the Scilly Isles again after 30 years and as I had never been to Guernsey that too was a great attraction. As we were finishing our booking in procedure I happened to notice a flyer saying due to adverse weather we would after all not be going to both the Scily Islands or Guernsey! At this point we both felt like turning round and going home,we were now going to Rotterdam Cherbourg and Portsmouth!! We unfortunately carried on with the cruise as we thought we had no other option and we can go to Rouen and Honfleur as we had never been there and they were as we were told very pretty we had booked an Excursion and were looking forward to that. We were shown our cabin 7038 inside as that was all that was available at the time of booking it was very clean no frills but adequate, but also very noisy the district roar we hoped it would substitute as we sailed away ,this was not the case it was like sleeping next to the mother way.On complaining to reception a engineer came and listened and said go back to reception and speak to them, which I dully did and nothing was done. To cut a long story short we could not sleep for a week Rotterdam was dire so was Cherbourg Portsmouth was as we have been to many times before. On sailing up the Seine the Captain informed us we could not go to Rouen as there was a strike!!The whole cruise was a disaster.Needless to say we will never go with Cruise and maritime again I must add when sailing from Cherbourg to Portsmouth we met to adverse weather conditions. I booked because I wanted to go to the Scilly Isles. The other stops also looked good. My daughter wanted to re-visit Guernsey. The five ports all held interest for us. When we got on board I noticed a leaflet on my bed regarding a shore visit to Cherbourg, this was not a port on our itinerary and I panicked thinking we were on the wrong boat. Then I saw there was a change of ports, due to bad weather. We were being taken to Cherbourg and Portsmouth instead of The Scilly Isles and Guernsey. To my mind the only reason to go to Cherbourg is to get off a car ferry and head straight out. Well as for Portsmouth, only an hour away from home and another place very low on the want to visit list. It beggars belief that the cruise line thinks these were a good exchange. The cruise line knew of the change before we boarded. They should have offered a refund before sailing if had wished one. To make matters worse the French dockers were on strike and we never got to Rouen. Only two ports were of interest. Had we known about the change we would not have gone on this cruise. Such a disappointment, it ruined our holiday. The cruise line we felt had "made us prisoners" we were certainly taken places against our will. The ship itself held a mixture of feelings. We had to sort out problems. There were two cabins booked for myself, daughter and grandchildren. Yet they put us on different sittings, so we had to alter that. The cabins were very hot and that had to be seen to. The toilet in my cabin blocked three times and on a fourth time it flooded. The cabin was very noisy, a large notice at reception said the boat was full and there would be no changing of cabins. I and my daughter are very heavy sleepers, but we were kept awake most of the night, and my daughter ended up like a bear with a sore tooth. The food was reasonable, but not for foodies. The shows were for a mixture of tastes and some, especially the Easter Panto, were very enjoyable. The staff were all very polite and helpful with smiles (except the reception desk, no smiles there) The cocktails were nothing 'to write home about', had much better on other cruise lines. I asked for some monetary compensation but the cruise line will not give me any. That would have helped to sweeten the bitter taste. Therefore this is not a cruise line I shall use again, and certainly will not recommend, in fact I shall advise against them. Had we been aboard and the weather worsened so we could not go to our chosen destinations I may have felt a little sympathetic, but they knew before we got on and could have said something. Very dishonest. Read Less

We boarded at Tilbury and was shown our cabin 5136. We had to call reception as water was coming up through the shower drain, but this was soon fixed by an engineer. We was surprised by the number of very old and less mobile passengers on this cruise, walking sticks, Zimmer frames and mobile chairs. We later found out this cruise was used by Saga. This had obvious problems when disembarking and embarking at the various ports of call. The ship on first impression looked modern but there is something fundamentally wrong with it. Had I read the reviews of December 2017 and January 2018 beforehand we would not of booked this cruise. The ship was very noisy, there was a constant smell of sewage outside the cabins and in reception area , the lounges would be cold due to the air conditioning temperature being too low, there was a constant sound of people coughing and yes we also went down with a chest infection. The Kensington restaurant was excellent but we found the Waldorf service disappointing. Raffles Bistro was like a canteen. Entertainment enjoyable. Read Less

We choose the cruise because of the places it visited. Almost immediately we realised the number of people with mobility issues, were frail and elderly or had other serious health issues who were on the cruise. As we embarked we followed an elderly couple, she was in a large wheelchair and he used a walker with a seat on which he had 6 large carrier bags which make it too large to get on board without the help of two crew members. It took a further 4 crew to get his wife on board. At the safety exercise it became more apparent that the people who have mobility issues would not be able to participate in climbing up two flights of stairs to the lifeboats. The exercise lasted over an hour. I would estimate that 30/40% of passengers had mobility issues or were frail & elderly. I do not know how the company work out how many disabled passengers they can manage safely or how they risk assess passengers based on the Medical Declaration we were asked to complete a week before we travelled. Looking at the deck plans there are only 4 disabled accessible cabins. Many passengers had falls when the sea was rough and had black eyes, bandages & plasters. One elderly lady had 6 stitches in elbow and other injuries when her husband fell on her. Like others have mentioned many people including me went down with bad chest infection - hard cough, high temperature and bad chest. Again a large number of passengers were affected. My husband & I would not Travel with this company again and would check on the Safety and Risk Assessment s that are carried out before we cruise again. The Bistro , as others have said was overcrowded with too many people filling too small a space - avoid at all costs Read Less

My husband and I chose this cruise not just for its itinerary and reasonable cost but for the convenience of the return trip from Liverpool; disembarkation went smoothly but we were surprised our hand luggage was not scanned or inspected in any way, we could have been carrying anything - very disturbing given the times we live in. The Magellan is very dated, desperately in need of a refit. Public areas are drab and uninteresting but there are plenty of places to sit. We had an outside cabin which again was set in a time warp but it was quite spacious, ample storage and the bathroom quite roomy. There didn't have to be much of a swell for it to creak and groan which sometimes kept us awake. The walls seemed to be very thin as we often heard nextdoor's TV and the toilet flushing, also it got very hot and stuffy due to the air conditioning knob not being adjustable. Dining had its ups and downs - mostly downs. Raffles Bistro is the self service option which was a nightmare at breakfast, obviously not big enough with insufficient seating, most mornings we were forced to sit outside which was quite chilly and uncomfortable. We did try the other two restaurants for breakfast and lunch but the Bistro had more choice, better fare and we didn't have to put up with some of the ill disciplined waiting staff's shoddy service and lack of decorum. There was far too much fooling around, loud chatter, singing and banging of crockery. From behind the waiters' stations we heard one say to his colleague 'move your ass' when he came in with a tray of meals and on another occasion a waiter mimmicked a northern English accent. Our designated restaurant for the evening was the Waldorf, I might add that our two waiters were very pleasant and attentive, one of whom even gave us a napkin folding after our meal. But mostly we ate in the Bistro as there weren't many people - guaranteed table for two, it had a cloth on it and we had a view - happy days! In and around the bars a few of the barmen and male waiting staff had the same clowning around attitude but most were very professional and good at their job. We found all the female waiting staff extremely efficient, attentive and you certainly didn't have to wait long to be served. The entertainment was dire, especially the singing which was amateurish, out of tune and performed with fake American accents. Far better was heard from passengers on the karoke night, one girl sang 'Fields of Gold' - she was superb; knocked spots off the so called professionals. As for the comedian, well, he was an embarrassment and totally inappropriate, not only were his 'jokes' lame and inane but he sang some ditties ridiculing world leaders, one targeting Mugabe, the lyrics of Old MacDonald changed to that he no longer had a farm - this odious creep thought that it was funny that people had lost their way of life and their livestock in such horrible cruel acts of violence. I can't comment on the shore excursions as we made our own way around. Activities such as paper plane folding and creating flowers from crepe paper and plastic bottles didn't exactly appeal so just as well we took the £17 p/p p/d drinks package which was very good value and worth doing, so no complaints there. Overall, even though we had our gripes, we saw the places we set out to, seeing beautiful scenery. I know it's a cliche saying 'you get what you pay for' but this cruise surely endorsed that. 9 nights was enough. And no, I wouldn't go with CMV again. Read Less

Embarkation was to say the least chaotic, headless chickens come into mind. However we got on board and started our holiday. Have cruised before and this was the worst, not bad however and had we not cruised before our expectations may not have been so high. Layout of ship is weird, if you dine in the Waldorf restaurant, we had no choice, you have to go past restaurant level, onto floor 9, and then back down to floor 8, not good for the less agile diners, or wheelchair users. We didn,t use any of the organsied excursions, but chose to do our own thing whilst on shore. This saved us as a couple well over £150.00, all similar excursions are available independantly onshore. You have been warned. When going ashore in Andalsnes, the exit was on level 5, the gangway was VERY steep, therefore less mobile people struggled to get off, causing huge congestion. In my mind it was Dangerous! People wanted to get off to catch their excusion buses or trains and were getting frustrated. It took the crew a long while to get passengers off, until they decided to open a door on level 3. This should have been done in the 1st. instance. The staff seemed to be in a complete panic as to what to do. All of the staff do their best, but sometimes their poor English language makes it difficult to get understood. All in all not a bad cruise, they do their best to keep your holiday pleasant, entertainment quite amatuerish, but I suppose you do get what you pay for. This is not P&O or Cunard. A good value cruise, but Tilbury was rather disorganised for embarkation especially as previously we had experienced Newcastle which was excellent. The ship is small enough to navigate where one needs to get to easily, without getting lost. The dining is excellent with lots of choice,& the staff are very obliging. Second sitting see the show before dinner, & first sitting see it after dinner. The shows reminded me of school productions, with gaps between scenes, & lots of whooping, & loud whistles. All the costumes were good, & the musicians were excellent. Some interesting history talks regarding the Russian Tsars, which gave us background for our trips to Peterhof Palace & Catherine Palace. The palaces are out of this world with lots of gold, & wonderful fountains, & I would highly recommend visiting them. They were the highlight of our cruise. A visa is required for Russia if you want to go it alone, & are expensive. If you pre- book online with a Russian tour company you do not need a visa, or indeed with the ship. Beware, we have been charged twice for our trips, & are in the process of trying to sort it out, so keep all your paperwork when you get home! We visited Copenhagen, Warnemunde (a pretty seaside place so advise not to spend 6 hours on a couch to Berlin.) Helsinki, & Tallinn. The days at sea mean the Raffles self service restaurant is inadequate to seat everyone, so rather chaotic, but the food was very good, & plentiful. We booked direct with Cruise & Maritime & expected to get the best price booking direct, however on the day we were booking Planet cruise were offering it for £100 less & CMV would not price match, so shop around! Use this cruise line at you peril. The only good point was the cabin porter and the fairly good food. The rest was a total shambles myself and other passengers complaining that rooms allocated on check were not the ones on documents when booked and more people complaining and telling others about their experience on arrival than I have ever encountered anywhere. Most of the staff on the customer service desk were not trained, surly and arrogant. Could not sleep due to rattling engine noise. I could write a small essay of every complaint on this weekend away but quite frankly they would not take any notice and nothing would change. It would not surprise me if this company went out of business very soon. They need to get one of the experienced cruise lines to show them how it is done before it's too late. Transpired that the ship had that day just arrived from a world cruise!!!! and the last passengers had only disembarked at 3pm, hence the chaos at the dock. The one thing they should be mindful of is that word travels even faster on a small cruise ship and in a blink of an eye everyone on board gets to hear about any complaints! More importantly if this was there idea of customer care what in heavens name would it be like in a real disaster, doesn't bare thinking about. Read Less

this was my wife and I first Cruise and we were both really looking forward to it,embarkation went smoothly and we were soon under way. We were assigned a table for dinner along with three other couples. The food was average although the presentation was good, and the other couples were good company. The entertainment on the first night I thought would be a sign of things to come, I wasn't wrong, it was embarrassingly bad, the singers couldn't sing, the cruise director looked like he was working out his notice, and would rather have been anywhere else but on board. The best singer was the waiter who gave our dinner table a rendition of (Iam sailing) The main reason I have for writing this review though is a much more serious one. My wife has never smoked and I cant remember the last time she had a chesty cough, By the end of the cruise she sounded like a homeless person who had just spent the winter on the streets of London and who smoked 20 cigs a day. This didn't just apply to my wife,i noticed whenever we went on shore excursions,(we went on3) at least 70% ofpunters were coughing and sneezing or in some way feeling not right.I sincerely believe shipboard environment is a very unhealthy one and anyone considering a cruising vacation should think about the health implications. Cruise to Iceland on Magellan. As usual really enjoyed it and met some very nice people on board. Sadly there were the usual moaners, mostly about the food. If I have any criticism personally, it might have been slightly over salted for some people's tastes, but I found it just perfect. My cabin was large and roomy, best showers of any ship I have been on and I have been on quite a few. All kept spotless by lovely cheery staff smiling and chatting even though they seem to do very long shifts. The weather was very rough but you don't go to Iceland for 30 degree heat and a suntan. Although some passengers never cease to amaze me as one woman thought she could be out on deck sunning herself and the brochure was misleading showing blue skies! The lectures were very good being varied and entitled living on Scottish Lighthouses, Van Gogh Sunflowers and The Aurora Borialis, saw a great film as well - Bridge of Spies. The scenery was spectacular and unfortunately a bad trip for quite a few passengers who were airlifted off the ship and ambulances waiting at quayside to take them to Hospital, however this was quite thrilling to watch for the rest of us and I hope all are well on the road to recovery by now. Going back to other reviewers moaning about the food, I'd like to know what they eat at home or in UK restaurants. There was always a choice of 4 to 5 starters, two soups, two salads, 4 to 5 main courses, 3 to 4 desserts, cheese and biscuits and coffee or tea to finish. The soups may have been on the thin side, however if you can manage 5 courses stating with a hearty lentil and bacon, then you are doing well. Choices included venison, halibut, lemon sole, ginger chicken, the pistachio ice cream was fabulous. Bear in mind this is a very reasonably priced cruise, you can't expect the same as Crystal or Seaborne. Go with that in mind and you will have a great time. Read Less

Two friends had booked the Norwegian Fjord cruise on the Magellan after seeing an advert in the Daily Telegraph. When we saw the itinerary we decided to join them as a late booking. Embarkation in Dundee was very quick and efficient once we had arrived at the ship, our taxi driver got lost on the way to the quay, apparently cruising from Dundee is a new and fairly infrequent event. This was our tenth cruise with various other companies and non have equalled the quay to cabin luggage speed of CMV. Our cabin numbered 5172 was on the port side on deck 5 and was four from the stern, not where we would have selected but late bookers have no choice. We found the cabin accommodation to be very satisfactory, clean with a large picture window, plenty of hanging and drawer space, comfortable beds, a reasonably sized shower room and shower enclosure with soft lighting instead of the usual hard spotlights so prevalent on other ships. So far so good we thought. That was until the ship left the quay and started to pick up speed. Whilst still in the sound and under the control of the pilot a strange and persistent clanking noise began to make itself heard. We thought that this was a glitch which would be attended to but no. if anything it increased in volume when the open sea and cruising speed was reached. When we retired to bed it became glaringly obvious that sleep was out of the question so we contacted reception to report the noise. At first nothing was done, but on complaining again at about 2am a member of the crew came to listen and arranged for us to be moved temporarily to a "sleeping cabin". The following morning we were offered another outside cabin numbered 5054, situated amidships. Bliss, no noise whatsoever. Our friends, who were situated four cabins away from our original cabin also had to put up with the noise but when they complained they were given ear plugs! Another couple who were closer to the stern did succeed in getting moved. I checked the starboard side stern area corridor and found the noise to be there as well but the volume was a bit less. It is obvious that the Magellan has a problem which would appear to be with the propulsion system and this has the effect of making the last ten or so cabins on deck 5 suffer from a distressing amount of mechanical din. I cannot comment on other areas in the stern, it certainly could not be heard on deck 8 in the Waldorf Restaurant. Apart from this unfortunate shortcoming it has to be said that the Magellan is a very pleasant ship to cruise in. The staff were all attentive and polite, the food was very satisfactory with adequate choice, the whole of the ship was spotlessly clean, entertainment more than satisfactory allowing for the fairly small size and drinks reasonably priced. We did not encounter any rough seas so cannot comment on the sea worthiness, The ports of call were delightful and the shore excursions we took were enjoyable and well supervised. Would we cruise on the Magellan again? The answer is yes but we would make sure that we were well away from the stern especially on the lower decks. Read Less

Sailed from Newcastle on the Magellan. Embarkation was excellent and we were on the ship and shown to our cabin in no time. Luggage arrived ten minutes later. The cabin was clean and modern and the cabin steward was excellent. The entertainment was excellent. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. However, what let this cruise down was the food., Worst food I have had on any cruise ship. The bacon at breakfast was inedible, mostly fat. Food was very bland with no emphasis on healthy eating. I think with most of the passengers being elderly it had the 'care home' style menu, soft and mushy! Dinner menus choice was limited and I was advised by the waiter not to order the beef wellington as it was tough, with undercooked pastry. I also had steak one night which was so tough and without being offered a steak knife was also inedible. The trips were a little disorganised and I felt that this needs to be addressed. The ship is old, but clean and well fitted. We always have a balcony but only the Junior Suites have these so would not use this company again as there are not enough balconies. The Norwegian Fjords were excellent and this was the main reason why we used this company as they sailed from Newcastle which is only 30 minutes drive away. All in all we were well looked after by the staff, but I did not like the way at breakfast at 10 o'clock in the buffet restaurant a waiter shouted 'chop, chop' because they were closing. Chosen for destination and port of departure. First impressions were good. Cabin perfectly fine except toilet required cleaning. No shampoo dispenser - it eventually arrived on our second last day - shower gel dispenser didn't 'dispense' - steward couldn't fix it. Lifeboat drill was comprehensive - much more thorough than other lines. Ship was very clean, gel dispensers everywhere though I saw quite a lot of passengers ignore them. The crew were, in the main, pleasant. Most were from Eastern Europe, especially the Ukraine. Some - a minority - were pretty gloomy looking and seemed to find the job demeaning. They should pack up and go home as their attitude do the company no favours at all. The food on board was absolutely appalling!! Think poor school dinners and you're almost there. Loads of choice but nothing remotely appetising either in presentation or, more importantly, taste. It was truly awful! I wrote to CMV to complain and received a prompt response from them which was basically along the lines of 'one man's meat is another man's poison.' They pointed out that they provided plenty of choice. Yes, they did BUT it was ALL dreadful. They did say that they would pass on my comments to the ship. I do hope they do AND that things improve dramatically. Regarding places to eat. The Bistro on Deck 10 was nearly always heaving and it could be problematic finding a table. Some seemed to regard 'their table' as a place to spend the day - reading and even sleeping - with no food in front of them. The restaurant staff did ask some to move and were met with blank stares and very grudging compliance. After three truly vile meals in the Waldorf Main Restaurant (including the much vaunted 'Gala Dinner' which was beyond dreadful) we used the Buffet. At least there we could see the various dishes and choose the one that looked least repulsive -- which usually meant salad for all main meals! Although we had a '55% Off' deal, it was no bargain! I would never, ever, sail with this company again and could not recommend them. Read Less

We actually embarked in Dundee but it doesn't show on the options. This is a great holiday for those over forty. The ship was kept immaculate the staff were attentive and the food was abundant and very appetising. The Waldorf restaurant served 5 course dinners with coffee with several choices for each course. If you do not like dressing for dinner you can go to Raffles which is buffet style. We went there for breakfast and lunch great choice and very tasty. Afternoon tea is also served there with sandwiches and cakes. If you are still hungry after this they had a chocolate buffet one night with magnificent sculpture in chocolate and a gala buffet on another with savoury treats. This was the friendliest cruise we have been on being mostly Geordies and Scots no airs and graces although plenty of opportunity to dress up. Drinks are reasonably priced entertainment was of a good standard the onboard entertainment team and orchestra put on a different performance each night. Alan Wright the speaker did several talks and was very entertaining and Alan Brown the comedian did make me laugh. The disco was great playing mostly 60's and 70's music. The best thing was no kids! Had a different cocktail every day the CMV is to die for. The only minus was the excursions in Norway they are not very exciting but the scenery is fantastic. It is very expensive in Norway you need a gold card to buy anything. If you go at this time of the year it is very cold and you do need to take appropriate clothing. I highly recommend this cruise line and will try them again somewhere warmer. Read Less

I had read the reviews for the Christmas cruise which Magellan did and I was very close to cancelling our cruise, however we decided to make our own minds up on CMV. The entire experience was excellent, if there was any minus point at all it was that the hairdryer wasn't as powerful as I would have liked. The Embarkation process was flawless, they took the cases from our car in the car park and we were able to board the ship at the time that was stated on the tickets, so don't bother arriving early, they stick to times. The cabin was more spacious than I expected and was warm and comfortable, the heating is controlled in the ceiling. Everything was clean and tidy from the cabins to the ship. The food in the buffet is really good, there is everything you could want at breakfast and the curry served one lunchtime was second to none. There is a wide range of dishes. The main dining room was lovely and the waiters are polite and helpful, again food was excellent. The drinks package is worth every penny of the £17 pppn as a glass of wine is £5. In the package you can have beer, cocktails, wine, shorts etc but not Baileys/Irish Coffee. The ship felt stable at all times and I never saw any leaks at all. Two of the lifts were still not working but there were never any queues at the others. It didn't cause any problems. The disembarkation process was even better than embarkation, we sat in the bar until we were called, disembarked, got on a shuttle bus to the car park then located our luggage easily as it was in rows of deck numbers. It was flawless and very well organised. I would recommend CMV to anyone, great value, excellent food and staff. well done! Read Less

Four of us booked a Fjord cruise having never cruised before, we were a little worried by the varying reviews on the Magellan, however all we can do is give our honest opinion....we loved it. On arrival at tilbury there was a little bit of a hold up as the last trip had arrived back late so there was a two hour of the ship trying to play catch up. After that slight hiccup everything was super. Our cabin, an inner was roomy, very comfortable beds, plenty of wardrobe and drawer space and the bathroom a decent size. The food on the ship was lovely, though we heard grumbling a of 'small portions' there was 5 courses every evening...how much do people really want to eat. Breakfast, plenty of choice from continental to full English. Breakfast not being long over then lunch, again something for everyone. Afternoon tea from 3ish...who could possibly eat any more? The staff on board we met were all very friendly, happy to chat and a pleasure to talk to. We were undecided as to take the drinks package...we did and when we cruise again we would probably not use the drinks package as the drinks were on par with UK pub prices. So unless you drink quite a lot, it's probably cheaper to pay for drinks as you go. We took a couple of the trips, but we all felt that the trips we took, could have been booked and arrange very easily independently, just do a bit of homework before you travel. Around the ship all he areas are spotlessly clean, there seems to be a staff member cleaning all the time. The ship,is immaculate. Not really sure why the ratings are only three star...we will certainly book again...loved every moment....well done! Don't worry about the negative reviews on the Magellan....we loved it! Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had always wanted to visit the Norwegian Fjords. We got a buy one get one free offer. The facilities on the ship were excellent. It was all very clean. The food choice was amazing and the staff were very friendly and polite! The entertainment was brilliant and the comedian was very good indeed. I'd never had a cocktail before, but now I think that they're lovely!! The musical entertainment was superb, especially the pianist and the violinist. There was also a large number of shore excursions to choose from. The guides were very knowledgeable and friendly. The Captain went around and spoke to people, which we thought was very nice and he seemed a really nice guy. All of the staff worked incredibly hard and they were always very attentive and smartly dressed. All in all a superb cruising experience and we would go again! Read Less

I will not re-state the title because we had a wnderful cruise. The food was excellent, the crew were excellent and the entertainment was excellent. The itinerary was as expected and enjoyable. The weather was as expected and changeable. If we had just pulled out into mid-Atlantic and gone round in circles, I would not have complained. The evening buffets/ displays should really have been photographed not eaten. I am not a wine buff but the house wines were good and much enjoyed. Embarkation at Tilbury was good, disembarkation was a little chaotic but we got there in the end. We had a table for four (163) where the bench seats were a bit low and my wife asked for (and was given) a cushion but if this is a complaint, it is a small one. The cabin was comfotable (6150) but I would have preferred a cabin with a bit of daylight - but this was my fault not CMV's. Overall - great!! Read Less

We're do I start to payed just over 650 each for a large inside cabin crew which was spotless our cabin girl elana was great cabin number 7092 so a good start to holiday ok the magellan is a old lady of the sea which gives you her lots of charm. as for the food it was realy very good the waiters and the chefs and we're first time class. The entertainment industry run by Johnathan and his team work in endless to entertain you plus a classical duo guest guest comedian and and opera singer and speakers and there was always something to do. We met at some lovely to people who and there were a few tears on the last day. On a negative note the passengers are a little on the older generation side which is nothing wrong with that but did a lot of complaining about silly little things instead of of looking for a the good things. Then there is was the young at heart that were having a good time whatever. Anyway thats it thank you to all the crew and to cruise and maritime a realy excellent cruise and I forgot to mention the drinks and package which is really good value for money even if if you're only a average drinker served by the hard working bar and restaurant waiting for staff Read Less
