we've just come back from majestic fjords with beautiful scenery and weather but alas was a disaster the ship was full the room was small uncomfortable and very noisy broken sleep with funnel next door no transfer of room available several complaints unresolved reception issues couldn't get a buffet table was like being on a Costa ship Also the cost was very reasonably priced on the face of it.. but.. When you factors in cost of excursions and car parking then not so reasonable. So.. if the basics are not right.. then you can't really fully enjoy the good bits. Good Majestic fjord land Very relaxing with beautiful scenery Awesome in fact but that's the natural side of fjords for you with 3d passages that melt away and mountain overhangs you can almost touch as the ship sails through occasional narrow channels but you have to be up on deck at the right time to see them 1 particular spot was like the scene from Jason and the argonauts were Neptune pops up out of the water to save the ship from clashing cliff tops. Weather from other previous holiday comments weather could be very wet especially in Bergen but Unexpectedly the weather was gloriously sunny all week although occasionally very windy and cold Room Free use of safe Tea making but limited with small table and kettle Only 2 sockets in room Bed very uncomfortable and small for me Food Good value food with excellent English breakfast On gala and captains night the cuisine was excellent on other nights could be average though Cream teas and biscuits are to die for unfortunately everyone else felt the same.! when everyone comes back from days out at same time there are queues and shoving going on then finding a table is difficult too when ship is at capacity, which rather takes most of the pleasure out of it. The food is very good in general if not repetitive tho, sometimes bland and not very hot all of the time but one has to remember the cost of some of the cruises. The service is good in general as the staff trying hard to accommodate everyone but again because of this you can be waiting for 15 mins or more for a drink in certain bars. Cocktails of the day are usually very good and reasonably cheap at £3.50 per day. They did a wheat beer at same price which was a bonus as it's 1 of my favourites even tho its £1.25 in aldis I was just happy to see it as most cruises don't seem to accommodate wheat beer usually Bad Beds uncomfortable Small room and shower Tv poor Our room 5111 very noisy all day and all night Also had smelly gas smells from engines and main funnel Complained twice but not taken seriously. Like trying to sleep on a rollercoaster 1st time they sprayed carpet for smells 2nd time gave me ear plugs which were not adequate. Said they were full and couldn't change my room but found out later that they hold back some rooms in case of emergency. So our 50th and 60th birthday holiday was spoiled through lack of sleep and rest. 1st dining time too early and 2nd too late Only 1 buffet restaurant which was packed full several times with no spare tables and a scramble to get anything. The 2 main service restaurants too slow when busy and food some times not hot enough even when not busy. Excursions over priced and not good value when you can walk off and do some of the so called tours for nothing or a lot less when you just pop into tourist information and a small "what's available?" My friend and I thought this would be a fun way to check out Cruise & Maritime's Magellan ship. Plus we thought it was a pretty good offer, £99 for dinner, a show, an overnight stay and breakfast the next day. We actually splashed out and upgraded to a Superior Plus Twin Ocean View cabin so it cost us £129 each. We came by train. The weather was atrocious (not Cruise & Maritime's fault) and no taxi rank at Tilbury Town station. You have a short walk to a cab office hidden beside a fish and chip shop. We were very pleased to find a lounge offering tea and coffee plus snacks that you could buy while waiting to board the ship. Embarkation seemed relatively painless, we were in the first group, A, to board the ship. You still have the usual nonsense of them wanting to take your photo and holding up the queue. You're not shown to your cabin by an individual but there are crew on every deck to help you find your way. The atmosphere on the ship seemed very jolly. Not as many Christmas decorations as we would have expected especially in the dining room, the Kensington restaurant. There were 3 sittings for dinner and we had the first at 5.45. I was quite glad of that because I suspect if we'd been on the last sitting, I would have drunk quite a lot by the time that rolled around. I think that happened to a lot of people. There were certainly a lot of merry people later on. Everyone seemed to make an effort to dress up for the occasion. Some ladies looked very glamorous and a few men were wearing tuxedos and bow ties (older men). You had the obligatory photos taken at your table. I don't know what happened to the welcome cocktail because we never received one. My friend doesn't drink so got one diet coke for the entire meal, which I thought was a little mean of them as they said, half a bottle of wine per person. The quality of the meal was ok. I wouldn't say outstanding. That did surprise me a little because it is Cruise and Maritime's chance to show you how good they are. I'm gluten free and the menu did show everything that you can request to be gluten free. I was pleasantly surprised when I received two slices of gluten free bread without having to ask for it. However, when ordering our choices, our waiter skipped past the salad course and implied you couldn't have it. So, we were surprised when we saw other people having it at the next table. So, our 5 course dinner was only a 4 course one. I had to have cheese to end with and the portions of cheese were very small. They looked a bit sad on my gluten free cracker. My friend and I ended up on a table for six by ourselves. We made the most of it but I did feel a little conspicuous. I'm not sure if I'm being unreasonable to think CMV might have done something about it once they realised no one else was turning up. There was a parade of the baked Alaska pudding and the chefs came out and went round as well, which guests enjoyed. I regret now not making the most of the limited time available to view the different types of cabins. We managed to get to see one suite, which had a disabled bathroom. The suite was nice but again, seemed quite small to me. It is good that CMV offer this. They did have some discounts if you booked a cruise while onboard but not a great discount and I don't know how people would have found the time. We went to the first show. The theatre is impressive, much nicer than the one on the Marella Spirit (now no longer sailing). The show, was quite fun and a couple of the young singers had good voices. Overall, not outstanding. The drinks waiters in the theatre were very prompt and efficient. We then visited a couple of the bars and had a walk around the ship to get a feel for it. Our favourite bar was the Captain's Club and Sinatra's Bar. The latter had someone playing the piano for a little while, which was nice. Drink prices were reasonable. There did seem to be plenty of bars. The spa looked nice and the prices for treatments looked reasonable. We went back to our cabin about 11, which was silly of us. We should have stayed up later as we got woken up several times by noisy, late-night revellers returning to their cabins. The next morning, we made the mistake of going to the Kensington restaurant as only 1 floor up from us. It was packed and there was an announcement soon, saying that there was no more room and advising guests to go to the Waldorf or the Raffles Bistro for breakfast. You had to queue quite a while to get your breakfast. Also, the nearest Ladies to the Kensington has only 3 toilets, which is ridiculous. You are asked to leave your cabin by 7.00 a.m. and disembark by 9.00 - 9.30. We disembarked quite early. A very nice CMV staff member ordered us a taxi. The cab driver told us that we were sensible to go early as he said it gets mad at the cruise terminal around 9.30. Overall, I enjoyed our stay although a little disappointed about the meal. I think it'd be a fun event for a group to go to. The ship reminded me of the Marella (formerly TUI) Spirit that I sailed on this summer. I'm sure that CMV is making money out of these events but not that it's succeeding in its primary purpose, to persuade people to go on a cruise with them. Read Less

I don't usually write reviews for cruises but having travelled on the Magellan three times I feel the need to add some balance to all the negative reviews posted on this site. I've just come back from another great holiday, sailing from Newcastle to Norway for seven nights. The Magellan is an old ship and can never compete with the new-build state of the art ships run by Royal Caribbean etc, but what it does excell at is excellent service and value for money. We were in an inside cabin on deck four. "Isn't that down with the crew and the engines?" one ill-informed and rather stuck up fellow passenger asked me. It was a room for two, with plenty of space and a comfortable bed. I have a very sensitive sense of smell and despite what's been written here before, there was no smell of diesel or sewage. Nor were we stricken down by the killer air conditioning. The room was serviced twice a day and I slept well every night of the cruise. The low, mid-ship position of the cabin meant I didn't feel any motion when the ship was moving. The passenger decks are all clean and comfortable, with enough bars and sitting areas to move around across the day. The quality of food and drinks are where CMV really excels. I've done six previous cruises with Royal Caribbean and Celebrity and can honestly say that the food and wine selection onboard Magellan are far superior to those companies. We had all our meals in the ala carte restaurants to avoid the buffet scrum and I enjoyed every one. We also ate in the speciality restaurant Fusion, which was open two nights of the cruise, and this too was outstanding. We took out the VIP drinks package, which is far cheaper than packages on Royal Caribbean, with a much better wine selection (I think the quality of wine included in RC's packages really let them down). It also included a private cocktail party which was a nice opportunity to meet other people, and allowed 50% off the speciality restaurant. The service from all staff is excellent. Another area in which CMV scores over it's bigger competitors. There are always staff on hand to take drink orders, and if you do go to the bar to order for yourself, someone will bring the order to your seat. Even at very busy times, such as after the evening show, I never waited long to be served. I enjoyed the entertainment this cruise. No, it's not as expensively produced as on other lines, but the main theatre shows are all well performed by a talented team, headed by Cruise Director Jonathan Dulson. We weren't interested in the craft activities but there seemed to be something on every day for those who were. I did hear a lot of moaning from other passengers but it was all ridiculous stuff. "This porridge is made with milk, I wanted it with water." Someone else was very rude to a waiter when she didn't receive a plate of fruit with her breakfast , a plate of fruit she didn't order in the first place. People complained when they turned up at the ala carte restaurant and there was no buffet there. All absolute rubbish from people who should take responsibility for there own failings rather than moan. We met someone else so mean spirited that he'd worked out how much he thought the staff would make in gratuities, and then bragged how he'd stolen a pen from a waiter. I suspect all these people will delight in posting their negative reviews but don't believe it. As mentioned above this is my third time on Magellan and I loved it. Would we book again? We already have. Read Less

This was our sixth cruise, one of the previous ships also belonged to CMV, the Astor. The Astor was a lovely ship with the right number of passengers. We soon realised that most passengers on the Magellan had chesty coughs and bad colds, so we were furious that, after getting through the winter with just one cold, we fell for the bugs on this ship. Before embarking at Tilbury each passenger had to complete a health questionnaire. I don’t think people were entirely honest. Even on the excursion buses we were surrounded by unhealthy people so felt really uncomfortable. Our cabin was well appointed but the biggest problem was the air conditioning. Either it was too noisy or, on four occasions we had the smell of diesel oil. Just awful !! The same smell was evident in the lift area on Pacific deck 7. Because the air con was a problem we had to keep it shut meaning a stuffy air cabin. The Raffles Bistro restaurant was the worst food experience of any ship we had been on. There were too many people trying to eat there at popular meal times. If you could get near the food you could not find anywhere to sit. We ate in the Waldorf restaurant and the food and service were excellent. Staff around the ship were friendly and efficient and even tried to assist us with ingress of diesel in to our cabin. We booked this cruise at least six months in advance and paid full price for it. I think we can safely say that many of the passengers would not have paid the same ! On formal nights, for instance, people would turn up in T shirt and jeans when most of us would be in DJ. To add to the bad experience we have found out since getting home that this cruise is being advertised at Buy One and Get One Free ! This was a twelve day cruise and five of them were at sea. Too much ! The Scenic Reykjavik excursion was rediculous. Who wants to see a housing estate and a church that was closed ? The entertainment was good and the lectures were from experienced professionals. Having highlighted the good and the bad parts of this cruise we would not travel on the Magellan again, and especially out of Tilbury which was a logistical nightmare. Read Less

Coach transfer We arrived at Victoria coach station, greeted by cruise and maritime representative. Suitcases were put on coach, We did not see them again, until they arrived outside cabin, Embarkation On arrival, we were told to take a seat, wait for colour of our tags to be called out, this was a matter of minutes, we then proceeded to get the boarding card, then Register our Credit cards, this was done all very swiftly, no hanging around we was on the ship within 20 minutes, Cabin 7126 Our cabin was a superior inside 3 birth, which was spacious and had two very comfortable double bed, and bunk bed, There was a generous sized en suite including toiletries. There was plenty of storage space, three large wardrobes, It was kept beautifully clean by our cabin stewardess who came in twice a day to ensure it stayed that way. It Was equipped with air-conditioning. Raffles Bistro, (self service) commonly Known as pig troff, Not quite the case this time, Food was excellent, different each day, and plenty of it. Dinner Waldorf Restaurant 1st sitting, 5 course dinner! Well what can one say? Well presented as if I was in a first class restaurants, food was delicious, lots of it, there was 27 different cheeses on board boat ship, Cheeseboard was different every night, The staff in the Waldorf were amazing, nothing was too much trouble, I like port with my cheese, port was not on the drinks menu in this restaurant, but the waiters soon got it organised that I was to have my port and Calvados at my table every night, we even made small changes to Our food orders, we even ordered a prawn cocktail one night, which was specially prepared, nothing was too much trouble, Drinks on board We had drinks package, I drank my normal for on cruise, by god they were not watered down or full of ice like some cruise lines, you could get intoxicated quite quickly. Entertainment Magellan show team were first class with great shows each night, two special guests performing, as well as many and varied day time activities. The part nobody wants to see. Medical department My mother was taken ill, blacked out, days into the trip and needed to use the ships medical department. The treatment She received was first class 3 ECGs blood tests, all don and results back in 30mins, the doctor decided to have our cabin changed, to 5034. she was put on heart pills and sent to bed, and go back next day for another ECG, she was then fit to enjoy the rest of the cruise. On the day leaving the ship, doctor had written a full report, which was left in the cabin to take way. Cabin change 5034, Our cabin was now a superior outside which was spacious and had two very comfortable single beds. With bunk bed, There was a generous sized en suite including toiletries. Also included were tea and coffee making facilities. There was plenty of storage space and it was good to have a window. Was told to put all clothes in suitcases, and they would to the rest within 10 minutes the cases were at the new cabins door. Cruise director Word got around my mother was taken ill, when the cruise director, stopped us and asked my father how his wife was, as he had heard she was taken ill, every day if he see us he asked how she was, The ship, Old looking on the outside, but new modern on the inside, lick of paint here and there on the out side, handled with weather quite okay, not a problem for me.... loved it Now the negative bits I can’t think of any! We wanted a winter cruise to celebrate my 70th birthday. Having called into the co op travel agents in Lincoln ,this one was recommended to us by one of the cruise specialists.we couldn't have enjoyed it more! The staff on board were all amazing and friendly- nothing too much trouble. I was ill a couple of days into the trip and needed to use the ships medical department. The treatment I got was first class and with a couple of days intensive treatment I was fit to enjoy the rest of the cruise. Food on board was delicious and plentiful and was presented in the first class restaurants as if in a top class hotel. There was a less formal restaurant but the food was excellent in there too. Entertainment was first class with terrific shows each night as well as many and varied day time activities. There was also a wide range on shore excursions ( not cheap as Norway is expensive) and we took advantage of a few of them which we thoroughly enjoyed. We made some good friends who we hope to cruise with again in the future with this line. Now, try as I might, I can't think of any negatives. There was an incident of burst pipes which I believe caused flooding to some areas but the staff worked so hard to sort the problem and did so quickly. I did overhear some guests complaining about various things but they all sounded quite trivial to me. I do feel that some folks complain for complaining X sake!! However, everyone is of course entitled to their opinion. We certainly enjoyed ourselves and would highly recommend cruise and maritime and the Magellan to anyone. Many thanks for a memorable trip. Having cruised numerous times but never with Cruise and Maritime, we decided to try the overnight Christmas party night. The embarkation from Tilbury was excellent and quick. The cabin was standard and clean. The food and service in the restaurant was good. However, our reason for writing this review is as a warning to other passengers. The following morning we left our luggage in the designated area manned by 2 CMV staff and were given a ticket with our cabin number on. We left our luggage there whilst eating our breakfast. Upon our return, approx. one hour later, our suit carrier containing our clothes from the night before was nowhere to be found. We reported it straight away to Reception, who were not really interested and told us it happens all the time. The Head of Housekeeping came to speak to us and told us that he would sort it out but didn't come back. We were kept waiting at Reception for 45 mins and largely ignored during that time. In the end we demanded a claim form, which somebody duly appeared with. Our contact details were taken and despite contacting Head Office twice now we have been told that it is not the responsibility of Cruise and Maritime, even though it was an area manned by their staff and with no warning sign to passengers stating that they accept no responsibility for loss or damage. As far as CMV are concerned the matter is closed and we on the other hand have lost £400 worth of clothes! The cruise line itself is let down by extremely poor customer aftercare. Read Less

This cruise was a charter for Cruiseco in Australia who hired it to host a Rock the Boat themed cruise 2017. We saw the advert in the supplement in our Saturday paper and although it seemed expensive for 7 days around the UK it did have a fantastic line up of acts from our era so we decided to jump in and book it. We took the upgrade which included the drinks package and gratuities and an outside cabin which seemed ok to us. We booked through cruise 1st who were efficient in the beginning but let us down when it came to booking parking at Newcastle. It took us weeks to sort it out and finally after saying they could not book it, CMV ended up doing so.No vouchers arrived so contact with Australia was necessary in order to get one sent by email which we printed off and all went well at Newcastle. We have never had such an efficient and quick embarkation as we had at Newcastle and the same was true on our disembarkation. Newcastle has really got it's act together, something other ports to take a lesson from. We were shown to our cabin 6064 and found it bigger than other ships and a double shower was very good. The walls had sticky finger prints all over as had the doors and wardrobe doors, otherwise it was clean and had a kettle, hairdryer but no fridge. We found the ship quite easy to get around with all the bars etc on the same deck but finding the Waldorf MDR took a bit of getting used to. We did not like the house wine offered with the drinks package ( dry rough Spanish plonk) so went without with our evening meal ( CMV need to look at this, we will not have the drinks package again and the only beer available my husband found undrinkable). The food left much to be desired, having read some good reviews on the food by other cruisers we can only assume that as this was a charter the usual chef was on holiday. We enjoyed 2 main meals but not much else.Very poor cheap ingredients( Talapia fish for example) buffet food varied but often luke warm , bland or just unappealing. We went onshore and bought a decent meal out when in port as I believe did some of the crew! It was only the superb entertainment and the bands which made this cruise enjoyable and the lovely people we met but I cannot imagine we would go on Magellan again if the food is standard. Pity because we liked a lot about the ship, cabin etc. MDR staff very good but bar staff left much to be desired at times as did buffet staff and the officers rarely acknowledged passengers in passing. Too many nationalities , many having little or poor English and we saw quite a bit of friction between them as some seemed less efficient than others. Read Less

An e mail dropped into my inbox with an exceptional offer 6 weeks before this cruise & it was the first time I had seen it advertised it just had to be done!! Suzie Quatro, Troggs, Manfreds, Animals, Slade, Big Country, Jam & many more the entertainment was fantastic & future cruises will be a little quiet in comparison. Embarkation in Newcastle was a breeze it took all of 15 minutes which is the fastest ever (this was cruise number 13 & 6 different cruise lines) We were shown straight to our cabin which was lovely we normally have to find it ourselves & our cases were already there. The cabin was spacious & comfortable (6206 superior single inner) Although its called a single It had a queen size bed which was 2 pushed together & space for 2 people it caused much confusion before we sailed as I had seen a photo online with a single with upper bunk!! We had dinner in the Waldorf restaurant & were superbly looked after by James & Aung they went above & beyond & really made us feel special, the food was amazing & among the best that we have had at sea, 5 courses to choose from, well cooked & presented & always hot. The Entertainment was spectacular we haven't stopped talking about it this was a different cruise to normal so can't comment on the usual entertainment. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it sailed from Liverpool and what a send off we got, fantastic sail away party and it set the scene for the next 12 days. The ship was spotlessly clean, you could often see the crew cleaning around the ship. The rooms were of a good size and the food was of a really good quality. We found the entertainment to be excellent and very professional. All the crew were friendly and approachable, nothing was too much trouble. We did not have the best weather whilst we were visiting Iceland, but his did not detract from a vey enjoyable holiday. We enjoyed the excursions that we went on and most of the ports of call, possibly with the exemption of Isafjodur, which was a bit bleak. The Golden Circle tour was definitely value for money and must do for anyone visiting Iceland. We have already booked to travel on the Magellan again next year. Read Less

My wife and I decided to try a cruise, just a short one from Tilbury to Amsterdam, Belgium and back. We were luck enough to have Royal Suite 01 on deck 11 - however that is where the luck started to run out... I must firstly say our steward 'Roberto' works very hard, is very pleasant and was the one element of the cruise that lived up to standards and expectations. If you read my 'Tripadvisor' reports you can see we have been lucky enough to stay in many fine 5 star hotels that have exacting standards — however the Magellan falls VERY short of a classy hotel. Other passengers informed us it is a very old boat and really should be 'put out to graze' as they put it. Some even called it a ‘Ferry’… We had three nights of no sleep owing to a banging door somewhere, a gap in the balcony door that caused a constant whistle/whine, and the toilet stopped working on six occasions and affected all the toilets on the first few decks - not sure about the lower decks. Coupled with this, our water stopped working on the night of the 7th May 2017 and in the night I got up to use the toilet and was about to get a drink of water, but as I turned on the tap - brown sludge water appeared (good job I had the light on and spotted it). On two separate occasions we asked girls by the main bar area for an 'Afternoon Cream Tea' (or where we could find this). Each time, the young girls replied 'I get you cup of tea - wait here.' And as you've probably worked out - a cup of tea arrived... This is poor staff training and also the girls need to improve their English language skills. We also asked one guy on deck 8, 'Where is the area they are checking passports please?" His answer was 'No!' and he walked off. Delightful service... We had an onboard passport check that we queued an HOUR' for, and to disembark for Amsterdam a further HOUR wait — that's many elderly with sticks and bad hips - dreadful. The entertainment was a 60's weekend and the first tow bands (Swinging Blue Jeans and Cheatles) were not too good - repeated the same set (and patter) whichh was a waster of time watching both their sets. However the Dreamers were talented, professional and went down very well. Would we every go on a cruise again? NOT ON YOUR LIFE!!!! Thank you Magellan for ruining or weekend and expectations. I chose this as it was a Maiden World Cruise and as such had a certain amount of expectations, one being that we didn't limp out of Tilbury without a fanfare, band or drink. Embarkation at Tilbury had boxes overstuffed with xmas decorations in there corners and dead flowers on windowsills. The cabin was suitable except there were no fridges, no coffee or tea making facilities and no heating. My bathroom flooded umpteen times and my bed was the source of an ant infestation. You couldn't find a chair to eat lunch al fresco and the food was poor. Entertainment all round was poor, no expert speakers for Panama or Suez. Hardly any entertainment on deck despite the tropical weather and very few buffets. The speakers were few and far between as was the cabaret acts. The theme nights were mostly a miss. The Bollywood amounted to a buffet and a showing of a Bollywood film. The ship was subject to flooding and leaks from pipes everywhere with blows being used to dry the large areas. This caused capers to small and staining on ceiling panels. The shore excursions were expensive and the amount of container ports was a joke, there were no facilities and no taxis and dos shuttle buses laid on Over 200 people got together for a meeting but management would not come and address everyone's complaints. Those that wrote letters needn't have bothered as they were not answered. A cruise from hell and if anyone has similar complaints I would love to hear from you at michele@mattmonro.com Read Less

Just returned from a 3 night cruise with my partner from london to amsterdam then onto antwerp. Overall, i had a wonderful holiday. In regards to some of the things I experienced on the ship, at times i was flabbergasted and felt compelled to write this review, . PROS . Waldorf restaurant in the evenings is wonderful. Ample menu, good food, Mostly good service (I'll come back to this). . Ship very clean. Our cabin was very comfortable. . Evening shows entertaining, well scripted, brilliant dancers and singers . Very relaxed atmosphere- the friendliest cruise I have been on and we found the other guests to be great company.(good mixture of ages too) . Destinations were amazing. We had a thoroughly good time on shore and id love to return to Amsterdam. Port staff also really friendly, helpful and welcoming CONS . Lunch in the top 'informal' restaurant has not nearly enough seating and the food selection was very poor. . Hot tub was cold... too cold to even attempt to get in . We arrived late in both ports by 1hour- 1.5 hours . No drinks packages- something most cruisers expect as standard. (my bar bill cost me a small fortune!!) . And now my biggest complaint- Poorly trained/selected staff that could use some serious senior management. The restaurant staff were fairly professional, however they do require some English lessons on key restaurant terms ( a confusing couple of episodes re 'lemonade' and the wrong starters). RECEPETION... front of house and the face of any business... absolutely dismal. I took a dislike to one girl with a face like a wet weekend and a serious attitude problem- the others were not great either. ( I think she was head receptionist which is where these issues may lie). They seemed to have no regard for passenger welfare, solving issues or being remotely helpful... every time i went to the desk it was chaos and nobody knew what was going on. Bar staff all seemed to be doing their job efficiently, particularly one guy in the Tavener pub who was one of the only members of staff i came across who seemed happy to be there and actually engaged with guests. Some port staff were very rude and unhelpful- smoking in front of guests also- The biggest NO NO of tourism- very unprofessional At times the cruise was chaotic, stemming from the lack of staff ability and organisation. I would seriously recommend the management of this company travel with other cruise liners to get a feel for what good customer service is. Read Less

Second time on my birthday..the catering and waiting staff brought a sparkle birthday cake singing happy birthday...food was in plenty and of a very good standard and variety.. We could not fault our trip..I am a retired nurse and very keen on good hygiene and the whole ship, cabins, food was A+++. I saw a programme rip off Britain with a passenger saying that paint affected him..I say rubbish...NO fumes whatsoever came from the paint.I use inhalers and it did not affect me at all....Maintenance and cleaning is high on the agenda and none of us found either the painting or cleaning obtrusive at all. Please go and enjoy your trip..highly recommend this company... Entertainment was really good, the cruise director was friendly ,the girls and boys of the entertainment troop were fabulous..service and waiters were friendly and caring.. The captain was very good at given out information of the routes and weather conditions.. Highly recommend.. Read Less

We took this cruise as it was convenient to our home and needed a break. We have cruised for 20 years and have never experienced such a miserable cruise. 5 hours late in departing which we understand can't be helped. The ship then went back to Antwerp which they said was due to bad weather. We were due to go to Gibraltar and therefore missed out Lanzarote. We picked up a lady and a child who were family cruise members. The ship is advertised as child free! I was told that they would only be allowed in crew areas but they went anywhere in the ship and disturbed guests.Trades description! The cruise was supposed to be festive. The Christmas dinner was disgusting and no one had heard of mince pies or Christmas pudding. Decorations were non existent. The staff worked hard but were restricted by the appalling management. The cruise home was through the Bay of Biscay in a force 9 gale. Necessitating the use of a helicopter to lift off injured folk. Many folk, including the child and mother had left in Lisbon as they were aware that the Bay was going to be very rough. In fact folk had been leaving throughout the cruise as food and entertainment was the worst we have ever experienced. Cruise Maritime refused to accept that it had been a disastrous cruise and wanted folk to go through the trouble of ABTA because they know that guests were so fed up they couldn't be bothered. I can only sum up by saying that it may have been a one off terrible cruise. They knew it was well below accepted standards and should have held up their hands and apologised. I would never cruise with this company again. After cruising with most companies I feel able to classify thus company as deceptive and having no care for their guests. My advise is just don't trust them. They want your money but not are prepared to provide the basic services. Read Less
