This cruise was an award to employees of my wife's healthcare facility. I had to pay my own way... We don't have any frame of reference. As a man, I know this may sound strange but I don't like large, tight crowds or high stress/high anxiety situations. Initially, I was kind of reluctant about going on a cruise and having to deal with wall-to-wall people. We drove to Long Beach from Phoenix and spent the night on the Queen Mary. As a first time cruiser, I thought it would be more stressful than bording an airplane. It wasn't! We got to the terminal early, they had a convienient parking garage nearby. We walked over to the exit of the parking garage and there was a gentleman collecting luggage for the cruise. I had pre-printed my luggage tags and attached them so I just left my bags with him! Easy peasy! We hung out in the sparse terminal for about 30-45 minutes. They started bording early, (we were in the 1:00-1:30 bording group) and we borded around 11:30. We relaxed until our bording group was called and we went up the ramp and borded the ship. Again, low stress! We borded the ship, were directed to the Lido deck for lunch and only had to kill time until our room would be ready at 1:30. We grabbed lunch, a drink and explored the ship. When we got to our room, our ID cards were tucked in behind our room # badge. We grabbed them, stuck it in the door and it opened. All we needed was luggage. I had noticed luggage carts near one of the elevators on our floor so I went down there and found our luggage, (they would have brought it to our room but we wanted our bathing suits!). From there on, it was smooth sailing! (No pun intended). We didn't have any expectations since we'd never been on a cruise but, I have to say, it was a riot! The party in the atrium every night was a lot of fun! I enjoyed seeing so many people having fun together. We saw a 70's and 80's show, a Motown show, two atrium parties, had an nice dinner, went to a, "Tase of Mexico" excursion in Ensenata to learn a couple of Mexican culinary staples as well as some tequila! (Margarita's while making food then 6 shots of tequila when learning about tequila). There were other excursions but we live near Mexico and the the towns don't vary much so we weren't interested in shopping. Our excursion was within walking distance of the ship so we walked back after our excursion. All in all, I only have a couple complaints. For first-time cruisers, you have to get to know the schedule for on-ship events. Also, there is a new schedule that is put out for each day of your cruise. Some are duplicates, some are different. We'll know to get a new schedule every day on our next cruise. Second, I never received any tickets to the excursion we paid for. I only had the receipt that I paid for it. They asked me for my tickets and I didn't have any! I figured they could get it off my "cruise card". No bueno. We got around it and they wrote a, "duplicate" pass but I didn't know I needed tickets. We're both 60-ish and like to relax in a kid-free environment. Don't get me wrong; we knew there would be kids on the cruise. They have an, "adult" area with two small hot tubs and a bunch of lounge chairs. That's fine. Except, they NEED MORE hot tubs and chairs! The chairs were always full and so were the hot tubs. This adult retreat needs to be bigger. On the Lindo deck, the hot tubs were always full of kids, surlely pissing them. I also thought the pool was quite small considering the ship holds 2000 people. These are minor complaints... Lastly, my wife and I like comedy shows. They had comedy shows every night. The problem was, the early shows, (9:30) were PG rated to accomodate kids! We would have to wait until at least 10:30 or later to see the adult shows. I think, if you have adult comedy, they shouldn't' have to dumb down their act to accomodate kids under 12. Give them their own show in a different room with, oh I don't know, Mickey Mouse telling Minnie Mouse jokes. What I'm saying is, when you're 60 and get up for work everyday at 3:45 AM, trying to stay up until 10:30 to accomodate children is not what I've worked for, for 45 years! I'm still giving the Inspiration 4 stars overall. We've already booked an October cruise, hoping there will be fewer kids.The whole experience was fun, enlightening, easy and memorable! Read Less

Picked this cruise because I wanted to transit the Panama Canal to celebrate my 70th birthday. Everything was just perfect with one glaring exception. I booked one of the 6 Owner's Suites which are all located at the very stern of the boat. I purchased Princess' Premium Unlimited Internet Package for an additional $199. The signal strength in our cabin at the stern of the boat was so poor as to be nonexistent. If I took my Ipad to a public area a midship on the boat the internet worked OK (not particularly high speed). If I tried to log on in my cabin either I got no connection or if it connected the signal would be dropped after a few minutes. If you need to stay in touch with the outside world DO NOT book a suite at the rear of the Pacific Princess. Food was better than I expected, especially in the specialty restaurants ($29 P/P upcharge). The public rooms are quite nice and remind you of the luxury liners of the past. The staff on board were all very friendly and knowledgeable. They really strive to make you feel special and they go the "extra mile" to make sure you are enjoying your experience. The boat is quite small (650 passengers) so you get to know almost everyone. Read Less

As a travel advisor I wanted to experience life onboard a Princess Cruise. The embarkation and Disembarkation process was very efficient. There were many venues onboard with different nightly entertainment. The public areas never felt crowded. The SPA experience was great and the thermal suite can be enjoyed daily at an extra cost. My cabin had a veranda, mid ship. My companion suffers from motion sickness but staying mid ship was very helpful and she did great onboard. I recommended to anyone looking to experience cruising for the first time. It is a great value for the money. The food in the main dining room is good. The menu changes every evening with a decent selection of choices. The food at the buffet as well as the coffee can be improve. The staff is very friendly. The pools were heated and there were 4 spas to relax and watch outdoor movies on the big screen. Read Less

Since we are more mature and seasoned cruisers (over 50+), we probably have different expectations and reasons for cruising. We have sailed NCL several times, but this was the second, and probably last, on their mega-ships. The first was on the Breakaway out of New York. This was a repositioning Coastal Cruise; LA to Vancouver with stops in San Francisco and Victoria. We took it for a quick and close getaway and the two stops are favorites of ours. We flew to Los Angeles from Phoenix the same day and reserved a Supershuttle to take us to the pier. Easy, peasy, and cheaper than taxis or transfers. There were no other stops, since all passengers were going to the port. The Bliss is a beautiful ship with a sophisticated vibe. There are certainly plenty of places to go and things to do, with go-karts and laser tag as NCL’s latest entertainment venture. We tried the go-Karts - $9.95 for a double (two person) kart – 4 laps. Singles are the same price, but you get 8 laps. Caution: the seats are VERY tight and anyone with flexibility issues may want to reconsider. They were lots of fun and certainly a first on a cruise ship. There are lots of bars, restaurants and specialty shops (Ice Cream, Starbucks, etc.). The Bliss has a rather large selection of Specialty Restaurants as well, all with an up charge. So let’s talk about food. The food in any of the three main dining rooms was good, but not exceptional. Free style dining works for many, but we like having the same waiter and fellow diners, especially for dinner. There was rarely a feeling of care that we have received on other cruise lines. The buffet is huge, but the selections were not memorable. Trying to find a table during peak times is a challenge. We tried three specialty restaurants; Le Bistro, which is a favorite, La Cucina, the Italian Restaurant and Q, the bar-be-que place. Le Bistro never disappoints; the food was excellent, servers friendly and efficient and the décor soft and sophisticated. The only strange thing was the location; on Deck 16 close to the go-kart entrance. Access was through an outside deck near the elevators and on a chilling evening, could make you walk faster. La Cucina was very nice, the food was very good and they accommodated us when we arrived a bit early. Q is more casual and pricing a la carte. They have a country band playing there, so the atmosphere is appropriate; also very good food and friendly servers. The Atrium is an area on deck 5 where most of the passenger activities take place; trivia, game shows, cooking demonstrations, etc. This was a major disappointment. The area is ringed by a bar, customer service desk, future cruise desk and Internet café, so there is lots of traffic, with most of it not engaged with what’s happening on stage. The area is open above and the Local (Pub style restaurant) has a bar where passengers can eat lunch and view (and comment on) what’s happening below. Children would run around the stage – chaos ensued. Noise level was through the roof. We had a balcony cabin(13300) located on deck thirteen. It was a good nice location, aft and close enough to a bank of elevators, but far enough away to avoid noise. Beds were comfortable; two different types of pillows and wonderful top quilts. Storage was somewhat different. Nightstands were about 9 inches wide with one shelf (no drawers). There were two storage cabinets adjacent to the desk, again no drawers. The closet was RIGHT NEXT to the couch, so accessing hanging clothes was a challenge. The bathroom was roomy and had glass shower doors and enough shelf space for everything we had. There were more shelves in the closet, as well as the safe. Workable, but not my favorite configuration. As far as entertainment on board, there were lots to choose from. Jersey Boys was excellent, Havana was good, but about average for a production show, but the music and costumes were very good. My advice is to book pre-cruise for these shows. They are complimentary, but if you want to see the earlier shows, book in advance. There seemed to be enough duos and bands, but they played in restaurants and/or small bars, so dancing was difficult. The guest entertainers were diverse and a hit or miss, depending on your personal expectations. In general, while the ship is beautiful, it seemed more like a hotel/resort than a cruise ship. There is a center aisle along most decks and very few windows, so you might not know you were at sea. Good for some, not for others. This is a ship more for families and young adults. Prepare to pay for many things above and beyond your fare. Also be aware with so many passengers (Over 4500) the noise level and traffic will be above average. Read Less

This is a nice ship with lots of things to do if you want to pay extra for them. NCLs free at sea program is anything but. It cost more to book with free at sea than with a sail away rate, you are charged tips on the drinks you could have not the drinks you do have. Most of the fun extras on the ship like the race track and laser tag cost extra. There were 1/2 empty drink glasses and beer bottles sitting aroun all the time, probably because drink were free if you choose that package. Bartenders were kept very busy. They repeated the main stage shows for 2 nights which left limited options on the other nights for something to do. Waste baskets are built in to the walls by the elevators but are not labeled and basicly hidden. I loved that the smoking area in the casino was glassed off. Lunch menu was the same every day. Because of the free at sea program we never ate dinner in the main dining rooms. Specialty dining was ok, but not excellant. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we could sail to Alaska for 12 days plus no airfare as it left from Los Angeles. This was the main factor for choosing Princess. Having sailed many times with Princess we were expecting the best as we had always experienced before. We have always rated the food quality with Princess equal with Celebrity----no more. I can honestly say the Star Princess dining experience was the worst we have ever had with Princess and it ranks among the world of any cruise experience and we are not choose eaters. The dining room staff and service were great as usual---clean as usual--but the food was not good. I ordered a pork chop one night that I could not cut. I requested a steak knife and still could not cut it. Finally they brought me fettuccine. My wife had a beef pot pie. The beef was like shoe leather, she couldn't eat it. We ate at the steak house 4 times to avoid the dining room. The steak house was fantastic. For over 50 years I have taken my coffee with half & half and never had a problem on a cruise except this time. The Star Princess does not carry it--your choice is milk or skim milk. You can request heavy cream if you can get a staff member to go to the kitchen to get it. Talking with other people at dinner our opinion of the food quality seemed to be a common opinion. Read Less

We have taken a Princess Cruise to the Mexican Riviera six times. Have very much enjoyed The Crown Princess and The Ruby Princess but, Wow, The Royal Princess with the Medallion technology is fantastic! Having the Medallion streamlines so much and quickens the lines, waiting periods, and simplifies getting into your cabin, ordering meals and drinks, making purchases, pretty much every activity on board, and that means casino gaming is even easier, if you are so inclined. A noticeable improvement is consideration for those traveling with wheelchairs and walkers. The entire ship is navigable and that includes The Sanctuary. Previous trips have made The Sanctuary inaccessible because there was no elevator that went up there and even worse, no bathroom. Finally, that has all changed with elevator service and a pretty large accessible restroom. My favorite part of this trip was the fantastic Cruise Director and his team. I always think I have the best C.D. but Matt O’ Brien is in a class by himself. Funny, clever, inventive and his enthusiasm was inspirational to jump in and join whatever was going on. His team of Assistant Crew Directors has excellent hosts with many fun games and shows. We will do this trip again! Read Less

We have completed a Coastal California cruise previously and had such a nice time we wanted to take the cruise again. We loved the Island Princess. It is a smaller ship but great for those cruisers who like to meet people and enjoy a smaller ship experience. Lots of wood used which made it seem warm and inviting. Entertainment was really good with a standing ovation one night for one producation. There is a Sabatinis and Blue Bayou Cafe on board. We ate at Sabatinis and had a good meal and wonderful service. There were lots of activitities including Harmonica lessons and Quilling as well as bingo. The ports were one of the reasons we chose this cruise. With Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Astoria and the beautiful Victoria BC one can't help but have a great time on shore. I recommend Butschart Gardens in Victoria. Beautiful experience if you love gardens and Muir Woods / Saulsilito in San Francisco. Read Less

I had never been to Alaska (or Canada) before, and I already had experience with Princess, so we booked this cruise. First off, the ship was really nice, way better than the Star Princess (which desperately needs an upgrade). The beds are very, very comfortable. I booked a mini-suite, which I prefer over the suite due to the combination tub/shower. (I disliked the separate shower in the suite because it's tiny and there is nothing to hold onto). There was plenty of sitting room in the living area, plus there are two tv's in the stateroom. I enjoyed the overall look of the ship, which seems to have undergone an upgrade. The dining was good news/bad news: The Michaelangelo and Da Vinci dining rooms served very good food (included in the fare). The Crown Grill was just as outstanding on the Ruby as it had been on the Star (try their filet mignon!) and well worth the $29 charge. However, the Share by Curtis Stone and Salty Dog restaurants (which are not included in the fare) were major disappointments. The entertainment activities need improvement. There just isn't enough to do on the ship during the day. I enjoyed the night time entertainment in the various venues, and I really appreciated the first-run movies at my disposal. But there really isn't much to do before dinner. I would recommend replacing the often obnoxious trivia games with something more substantive, such as a lecture series. The service was really, really good. I cannot say enough about the consistent helpfulness of everyone I encountered. Bravo to Princess' training department! The ports were pretty good: Loved Skagway especially. I recommend taking the train ride there. I also enjoyed viewing Glacier Bay although I think it was twice as long as it should have been. But still, very beautiful. I would definitely go again. Read Less

For our 50th anniversary, we took a 12-day Princess cruise to Alaska originating in Los Angeles. From the moment we stepped aboard the 5-star Ruby Princess, we were surrounded by helpful, smiling faces of staff. Our balcony room gave us a wonderful view and fresh air throughout our cruise. The bed was SO comfortable with cozy Egyptian linens. Our cabin Steward, Christopher, was so helpful and attentive. The ship holds about 3500 guests and about 1500 very service oriented staff- which is a nice size and ratio. The restaurant meals were fresh and fabulous with very attentive waiters.There were fresh food options 24- hours a day! We enjoyed the flexibility of "anytime" dining. The entertainment was nonstop. We especially enjoyed the nightly musical shows in the Princess Theater. They have very talented performers- bands, singers and dancers.The different lounges also had good entertainment and often dancing. The casino is spacious and has lots of variety, including blackjack tournaments which are really fun! The gym provides nice machines with an amazing view! We especially enjoyed the tram excursion in Juneau and the train in Scagway. We plan to fly to Anchorage on our next Alaskan trip to explore the more northern regions and to do a land tour to Denali. We highly recommend Princess cruises without reservation! We look forward to our next Princess cruise!! The 12 days flew by!! Read Less

Within a few days of Princess releasing the 2019 schedule, found a cruise that met our needs. Ruby Princess, doing round trip to Alaska out of Los Angeles on 4/23/19. We now require an accessible cabin due to mobility issues. We prefer the Caribe deck, due to the setback of the superstructure. I call and secure one of the three accessible cabins left. 565 days out and as usual, Princess is asking full price for newly listed cruises. Over the next year we get new passports with only two weeks turn around. By chance I find that they have used our cabin as the example of an accessible cabin https://www.cruisecritic.com/photos/ships/ruby-princess-443/accessible-balcony-cabin-276108/accessible-balcony-cabin--v12728343/ As time goes by, we take advantage of two price drops. 75 days out, news groups going nuts about the one comfortable chair being removed from most of Princess’ balcony cabins. Questioned Princess on this policy since we require it, I was basically told too bad. On a second call speaking to an executive assistant, I was told that because I have a accessible cabin, that chair may or may not still be there, they simply have no idea at corporate what is happening on their ships. Still hoping on having a good time, without having to stand. 60 days out and the emails start. “Information about your cruise” from Princess. Cancellation?, change in itinerary?, cabin reassignment? Each time a flutter of anxiety I see it in the inbox. Soon learn this is Princess’ way of trying to get into my wallet before the cruise. Wine, excursions, specialty restaurants etc etc. I quickly learn to glance at them before hitting delete. Embarkation day has arrived. Get a late start out of the house, at the docks “rush hour” has already started. Utter bedlam from people not knowing where to drive, stop, park or drop off passengers/baggage. Inside the cruise center total calm, walk right up to the desk, have passport scanned and have cruise cards within seconds. Slight bottle neck at security because of the number of pax arriving. On the ship in about 90 minutes from when we left the house, far from a record, but nothing to complain about. Point of interest, I had two power strips (not surge protectors) in my carry on, no issue by x-ray or security. At some point after we pass through, new policy takes effect with security checkpoint. ANYTHING looking like a power strip is being confiscated and a receipt being issued. Attention Princess, while they are not your direct employees, security is your representatives and some education is needed. Since we ran into same situation over ten years ago and there has been no improvement. I predict there will be no action from Princess now. Another “new” policy is in place on the ship, fire doors going to cabin walkways are closed. All 3000+ pax are directed to the public areas on decks 7 and 15. To avoid the masses we grab a table near the Trident grill near open sky. We enjoy a bite to eat and start our favorite past time onboard, people watching. I will take this time to point out I’m not a millennial or generation X’er by any means. We retired three years ago, but looking around, I feel like I’ve been dropped into a convention of Wal-Mart greeters who have been terminated due to age. The wife, who notices these things, has counted less than twenty children in total. I have a feeling they will soon be bored. Just an observation, the vast number of passengers fall into two groups: retired Americans or younger foreign tourists, mostly from Asia. Per two crew members, the average age of this voyage is 65 years. Seems the common dinner conversation concerns medical procedures, prescriptions and what relative has recently died. Not all passengers observe the same dinning etiquette and a lot of food has been seen going into bags headed back to the cabins. To some, the idea of getting in line for services is foolish. Much simpler just to step in front of everyone. At times just getting from A to B is an obstacle course going around people who change direction without looking or just suddenly stop in their tracks in front of you. My wife and others using mobility devices seem invisible to the crowd. About 90 minutes pass and by chance I discover cabins have been made available, no PA announcement was made. Before running off to customer service, I check and find the “barrel chair”, removed from almost all balconies is still in this cabin. Only upgrade to the cabin is the 43” LG television mounted on the desk surface above the refrigerator. Doing my best Houdini impersonation, I am able to get a hand to the left side to plug in a HDMI cable. All that effort for knout, this TV is set to “hotel mode”, no changes possible. Won’t be able to watch media off my lap top. Old habits still die hard, first morning I awake at the usual 6:30 AM to a beautiful sunrise. At7:45 AM, the PA gongs and the Captain twice makes an announcement of a medical emergency C255, which is twenty five feet forward from us. No matter the emergency, I know I am of no use to the situation. But of course curiosity makes me open the cabin door and look up the hallway the two doors to C255. No yelling, crying, alarms or flashing lights, had I heard wrong? 7:47 I hear the thumping of running feet coming from every direction. Brown, blue and white uniforms race by. Radios, medical equipment and a gurney are there in a span of seconds. Medical goes to the cabin and security takes over the hallway. This is happening at the forward bank of four elevators. They lock up three of the four to keep anyone from stepping off this deck and the fourth is kept open for transporting the patient. More security is dispatched as far back as mid-ship in this corridor to keep passengers and the curious away. Through the peephole there are 7-9 people standing around for an extended period of time. Around 8:20 AM an empty gurney is taken aft via the confines of the Caribe hallway. Our steward, Damodar Sheldekar (who did exceptional job), later stated that the passenger was in medical getting treatment. Four days later I see two people on 255’s balcony, a full recovery? FOOD I’m not going to say the food was disappointing, just adequate. Basic ingredients prepared various ways. Chicken done Italian, French, Asian, Mexican or Indian is still chicken. First three nights, the menu for the main dining room appeared just tired and boring. Didn’t bother to get “dressed up” and just did Horizon and Crown grill on first formal night. Crown was a ghost town, only five other tables occupied. This was an example for the entire cruise. Fourth night we relented and went to dining room. I again am proven wrong in the need to “clean up”. Jeans, T-shirts, jogging suits and even ball caps are seen in the room. Feel overdressed in dress shirt and slacks. Nine years ago you always went to the main dining room, now there has to be something interesting/special on the menu. Horizon Court, Café Caribe, International Café, Trident Grill, Slices and room service deliver as advertised. As a side note, don’t disrespect the ingredients. We both made the mistake of ordering lobster 2nd formal night. Extremely tough from either over cooking or being held at too high a heat after the cooking process. On second formal night we were seated just before the “Baked Alaska” presentation. Was not impressed by the electric candles stuck in a fake pies. Entertainment? The “Main Offenders” keyboard, two guitars, drummer and female lead who must use iPad for the lyrics. Four fair musicians in search of an adequate front person. AJ Jamal, solid stand up comedian. TWO separate 45 minute sets on different nights. Very unusual to have 90 minutes of material. David Guidice, a “good” piano bar performer. Put into the theater, backed by seven member ship band that’s amplified. Then add reverb to the vocal, computerized moving lights and some fog. Three more shows in the much smaller Explorers. Learned later he’s been doing the cruise circuit for over eleven years. Jack Lee and The Ruby Princess Showband. The above mentioned seven piece back up band steps out on their own. No special effects, reverb or over amplification. Straight music by guys doing their thing, not the charts brought on by the hired help who get off at the next port. Hello Princess, you have an untapped resource here, use them. Tricia Kelly, another Las Vegas lounge act dropped into a theatre setting. Elyse Branch, gave a solid Motown review Medallion Net, I can only compare to experience nine years ago. True, no “dead zones”, but same slow speed. Forget streaming, two minutes from log on to get to first email, 30 seconds just to load a page. “System” was down for over seven hours one night. Another night it took 2:19 to log on, then 12 minutes to retrieve ONE email and write a two line reply. We had complimentary minutes; if we had paid out of pocket for this poor service I would be demanding a refund. Slow service was experienced on two iPhones, lap top and Kindle Fire. On Demand, I have both Netflix and Amazon Prime. Had seen almost all the films offered. On demand movies in roo is far cheaper than having fresh live acts. KETCHIKAN Princess ties up at Berth 4, street construction to the South or is it cheaper. Sales people have taken position at the foot of the gangway, however are not pushy at all. First ship of the season and there is a lot of “on the job training” around the docks. Tourists haven’t spoiled it. JUNEAU Again Princess ties up at the furthest dock away from town. Next to the Chevron fuel dump that has it’s own stench that drove passengers off their balconies. Several thousand feet from town, cheaper or Princess wants you to observe the homeless while you walk to town? More excursion booths at the dock, but salespeople a little more aggressive. Have lunch at a place looking over the sea plane operation, do some shopping then back to the ship. SKAGWAY Due to landslide, the primary dock is unavailable for the foreseeable future. Have to walk to the train for the only Princess backed excursion that is accessible. Wonderful small town, can’t imagine the place over run by three or four ships. Lunch at the new “Sweet Tooth” Café, sign says they close at 2 P.M., they will quickly learn to stay open while tourists are walking around to save for that long cold winter. This will always be a small town. OBSERVATIONS We have been away from cruising and Princess for nine years, I can only go by my own past experience. Princess has changed their target demographics to an older crowd. If it were just this cruise, it would not explain the shift of the dinner service fleet wide to earlier times. There were a couple of days of warm weather at the start and end of the cruise, yet this cruise had the least number of physical actives we have experienced. Musical acts concentrate on songs 40-60 years old. While speaking of musical acts, adding fog, reverb and 60 computerized spotlights to a so-so act still leaves you with a so-so act. My opinion the stripped down sets by the ship’s band were far better than any other act We had already experienced the Princess onboard sales pitches of a decade ago, but that has quadruped. Hard sales pitch while eating breakfast and dinner. Almost every organized event ends with some ship’s store “sale” sepal. As I write this, it’s day ten of twelve day cruise. I have collected close to an inch of ads shoved under my door. Oh, another issue. As stated we are in an accessible cabin. Whose bright idea was it to remove the “mail box”. There are quite a few people on this ship who can’t do the simple act of picking up anything from the floor. The idea of charging more for a specialty restaurant is fine, except there still has to be value. I am speaking from experiencing the first offerings so many years ago. A screened off section of Horizon Court called “Sterling Steak House” for the exorbitant surcharge of $5.00 getting huge steaks with large sides. Rather off putting paying $29.00 at the “Crown Grill” for a $15 steak and a bowl of potatoes and vegetables. As stated before the place was deserted at dinner. Another side note, same venue used for “English Pub Lunch” with the same wait staff. The airs of a high end restaurant disappeared quickly as a two hour line snaked from the entrance. Looked like a toy store on “Black Friday” with waiters confusing what orders to what tables right off the bat. Cruise director and staff were both approachable and knowledgeable of ship’s activities. Although at times some events were questionable for upper end cruise line; paper planes or egg drops………Please disregard comment about paper airplanes. Just saw over 200 people entertained by 50 pieces of paper thrown off deck 6. Princess requires separate form NOW should you be bringing mobility device on board for each cruise. Why not ask for letter of need/requirement of accessible cabins. You keep records of past passenger’s information, this would be a onetime verification and data entry. To get to the balcony of this accessible cabin, a narrow metal plate falls into place to bridge the gap between the inside/outside ramps. Great idea, except the only way to retract this plate is to reach down and lift it up with a finger. If there was a mechanism to lift this plate, it was broken a long time ago. Can’t comment about others, but my wife is physically unable to this maneuver. Princess still “offers” coin operated washer/dryers. Very useful on extended cruises, easily reduces amount of packed clothing over 50%. Although the machines look like the originals from the ship’s maiden voyage, the cost has increased over 100% since our last cruise. $3.00 wash with inadequate spin cycle resulting in a sodden load. Another $3.00 for a 35 minute dryer cycle on high to get a warm damp load that ended up being hung about the cabin. Can I bet a large some of money that Princess will soon totally do away with the laundromat, forcing passengers to use the more profitable ship’s laundry. Bottom Line Been away from cruising close to nine years, but have been on twelve Princess cruises for a total of 100 days. I know what cruising on Princess WAS. I can only say that except from crew performance, this cruise was of a lesser quality. From conversations with others and this experience, it is unknown if we will return. I do know I would not recommend Princess to a relative or friend at this point. I do know a large number of passengers on this cruise volunteered they will not be returning to Princess. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it started in Los Angeles and returned to Los Angeles, we did not have to Fly either way. Also we did not have to worry about weighing our luggage. We loved having a balcony, the King size bed was heavenly and the food was fabulous. We came on this cruise to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary, at our Dining Room they brought us a delicious dessert and the staff came arround our table and sang Happy Anniversary to us. We met 3 other couples that were sitting at our table and we ate together every night and we became very good friends. The 12 days of the cruise we were very happy with everything on the ship, the excursions were terrific. All the shows, games, auctions were so much fun. So glad that the weather was somewhat comfortable, and that Mr. Sun was with us the whole time. Read Less

It took over 11 hours for maintenance to unclog our bath sink, had to use the shower to wash our hands! My companion got food poisoning on our first night, I called medical and they told me to COME DOWN FOR THE MEDICINE! I hung up the phone and abot 10 min later medical called to inform me they were still waiting for me. When I told them I couldn't leave her they came to our room with the med's! The waiter and helper was very poor. The helper was gone for exactly 20 min getting pre dinner drinks one time, we waited over 20 min for the table to be cleared for dessert. The food quality was also very poor, NOT what we were used to or expecting from Princess! It appears that Princess is trying to save money at the expense of customer service, and I can tell you, IT IS NOT WORKING!! I doubt if my loyalty to Princess will survive my next cruise line choice!!! Read Less

The embarking and disembarking went smoothly, even the tenders were easy. There were a good balance of sea days and port days. Just a LOT of people on that ship, hard to get an elevator. The food is amazing, and the specialty restaurants are awesome. There was not much room at the pool, unfortunately there is only one adult only pool. The one thing I found to be unfortunate is the standard for dress in the dining rooms. No one seems to want to get dressed up anymore. This in my opinion, lowers the standard of the people on board. I used to look forward to dress up nights. Even at the Theatre shows, shorts and t-shirts. Though the staff are diligent about washing hands, my husband and I both picked up a bug and were sick for the last few days. We enjoyed ourselves, and the excursions were as promised. Read Less

This cruise went from Los Angeles to three ports in Mexico and back again to LA. We have taken about 25 cruises with Princess and many with other cruise lines. We have also done this itinerary many times with different cruise lines from San Francisco, San Diego and Los Angeles. EMBARKATION Immediately after picking up our two bags at the baggage claim area, we found the Princess representatives nearby and were told to leave our two large bags with them and follow a representative to the bus. We walked with her and were handed off to a couple of other guides during a walk of about a mile to reach the bus. Fortunately we are in fairly good health and the walk did not bother us. Some of the other passengers were having problems. Luckily it was not raining or we would have been soaking wet by the time we reached the bus. The ride to the ship took about 45 minutes. When we reached the check in area, we were escorted to the elite line and the check in process went smoothly. There we received our Medallions, which replaced the cards usually used for room keys and charging items purchased on the ship. The Medallions have other uses, but we did not explore those. CABIN We were onboard by noon and the cabins were not yet ready, so we had lunch at the lido restaurant on Deck 16. About 1 PM they announced that the cabins were ready and we went down to unpack our carry-on bags. We had room C309 on deck 10. I had a small bath with three shelves on one side of the mirror for storage of personal items. There was a stall shower and toilet. The bath was more compact than on other ships and moving around was difficult. Outside the bath were a dressing area and a large closet between it and the sleeping area. There was also a very small closet with shelves and a safe between the bath and the larger clothes closet. The sleeping area had a queen bed, a dressing table with several drawers and two night stands. Each one had two drawers and a storage shelf. There was a reading lamp on each. Across from the desk was another cabinet with a small frig. Outside was a tiny balcony with a table and two chairs. There was a large, flat screened TV hanging on the wall opposite the bed. The cabin seemed clean and comfortable. Only the floor showed stains on the carpet. Our cabin stewardess greeted us soon after we arrived at the cabin. FOOD We ate most of our meals in the main dining room, but also had some in the lido restaurant. The food in the main restaurant was fair to good. I had prime rib the second night and it was tough and somewhat tasteless. The fish dinners were usually good. There was a noticeable lack of vegetables included with most of the dinners. A typical fish dinner would have the fish placed on top of risotto or succotash with no vegetables. One night I had one slice of potato and a few julienned carrots. For those wanting more vegetables, I would suggest a salad before the main course. The service in the main restaurant was somewhat slow the first two nights, but improved as the week progressed. The waiters were always pleasant and efficient. The food in the lido restaurant was usually tasteless, which is normal. The quality is also not a good as in the main restaurant. There was a good selection and several types of themes were followed. We noticed Mexican several times and one night they had Bavarian food. This ship has a serving area that we have not seen before. There were several lanes running across the ship from side to side with serving areas on each side. Even though the ship had over three thousand passengers on board, there was never any problem getting to the food items. One lane had only desert items. These were very tasty and well prepared and presented. The first day we had hamburgers with fries at the grill near the pool and they were very good. I also had a slice of pizza one afternoon and it was fair. We have had poor luck at the specialty restaurants in the past so avoided them on this trip. The gelato at a cafe on a lower deck was good and the price was right. Two large scoops for $2.10 and they were enough for the two of us to share. ENTERTAINMENT We don’t care for the productions shows put on by Princess, so we usually avoid them. We did see one on this trip and it was just so-so. There was a good comedian who did two shows, one in the Princess Theatre and one in the Vista Lounge. A singer, Lou Gazzara, did two shows and he was quite good. He apparently was on the Idol TV show 17 years ago and now lives and works in Las Vegas. A married couple did a comedy/magic show one night. Unfortunately, they were not funny and the magic was boring. They used people from the audience several times and the tricks were drawn out far too long. Overall, the shows were better than on other Princess cruises we have taken in recent years. One afternoon, we watched a movie in our cabin. There was a large selection of movies and TV shows available on demand. This is a new feature we have not seen on other Princess ships. OUTER DECKS We primarily took this cruse to see the ship. This was the largest Princess ship we have ever been on. At 142,229 tons it was impressive. The interior décor was very well done. We often stay onboard when the ship is in port and use the pools when there are far fewer people around than on sea days. We look forward to swimming in the enclosed pools, because we both are easily sun burned. However we were surprised to learn that this ship did not have one. There is one pool in the center deck and one forward near the Sanctuary area. Neither is covered. VIBRATION The ship has serious vibration problems in certain areas. Mostly it is on lower decks and from the center of the ship to the rear. My wife was in a store on a lower deck and noticed that some watches in a display case were vibrating severely. While she stood near them a glass door on a nearby display case shattered and glass fell all over the floor near her. Thankfully she was not injured, but the glass could have caused serious problems. We went down to the area several hours later and the broken glass was still all over the floor of the shop. We also noticed the vibration while in the dining room on deck 5. Our cabin was towards the bow on deck 10 and the vibration was not as serious up there. We only noticed this problem on one other ship about 25 years ago. DISEMBARKATION On the last morning of the cruise, we went to the Vista lounge, which is the area where Elite passengers wait to leave the ship. The Captain’s Club representative was there to assist in the disembarkation process and did a very efficient job of announcing the departure time for the various groups. We left the ship a little ahead of schedule and were escorted to the bus. Unfortunately, it was another walk of about one half mile to get to the bus. Once onboard everything went fine and we were checked in at Southwest Airlines and off to our waiting area within minutes. The flight back to Sacramento was quite bumpy and the attendants were therefore unable to serve any refreshments. SUMMARY It was an enjoyable cruise with quiet seas all the way down and back. We were surprised that the weather in Mexico was actually cooler than we were having at home in northern California. We expected it to be hot, but most of the time it was overcast and cool to warm. On the two days returning from our last stop in Puerto Vallarta, it was very windy and too cold to enjoy any time on deck. We had one unfortunate experience while on board. We returned to our cabin one morning and found the floor to be soaking wet near the bathroom. I was afraid a pipe had broken so my wife sought the cabin stewardess and was told she had knocked over a bucket of water onto the carpet near the bathroom. She said she had tried to soak up the water with towels, but it apparently did not work. She made no effort to take other measures to clean up the mess. We immediately called the head of housekeeping and asked to have a wet vacuum brought in to remove the water from the carpet. We then left to spend the afternoon at the pool. When we returned, nothing had been done and the floor was still wet. My wife got on the phone to housekeeping and we also went to the front desk to ask for a cabin change. We were told that no cabins were available, but a supervisor was called to the front desk and he made arrangements to have a dryer brought to our room. Unfortunately, we had to stay in the room for several hours while the dryer was going, because we had to leave the door to the balcony open and did not want to leave the cabin while it was open. We had to cancel dinner reservations given to us as a perk by Princess at the Italian restaurant and were unable to get a decent time on another night. We were very surprised that the problem was not attended to without our intervention. We suggest that anyone having a similar problem should immediately get in touch with someone at a higher level. Don’t leave it up to your cabin attendant to clean up the mess or it might not get done. Read Less

With our second cruise on the same ship we noticed some degradation in quality, especially in the dining experiences. There seemed to be less staff to bus and clean tables on this trip. The food was mediocre at the buffet, much better at Guys Burger and the delicatessen. Pizza advertised as pan pizza definetly was not and had a coat of flower on the bottom, crust was dry and thin and crispy. We ordered a complimentary Ceasar Salad it was horrible. Did not resemble a Ceasar in any way. The dressing was a tasteless milky substance and we refused to eat it. Room was clean and well tended by Mega, who was very friendly and attentive. Slight odor in bathroom. Cabin windows needed to be cleaned on the outside. Entertainment facilities were well used and fun, the mini golf area had been renovated since our last visit. Shows were fun and lively. Staff throughout the ship was friendly throughout the ship; although, it seemed far fewer spoke adequate English on this cruise and was often difficult to communicate with general staff. The two excursions we chose were fun and informative, great value. Overall a fun experience and we still consider the cruise full of positive memories. Read Less

When I cruise, which is every few years, ¬I welcome the chance to join a community specific to our choices to be together on an adventure. The community we create is supported generally by the staff of the cruise line. I have needs, but I usually accommodate myself. However, on my last cruise I experienced a different community. It wasn’t the fellow cruisers but the actual cruise line that reduced my ability to have fun. I have been home now for 3 days and I thought long and hard about writing this letter. First the compliments which will take up more space than the complaint. Most of your staff were excellent at their jobs, and those who were very new to their jobs can be excused as poor English speakers which led to few interesting misunderstandings which were humorous and easily resolved. Mihael who was my first maître d’ was very kind and sincerely supportive. His commitment to customer service is exceptional and sincere. When we are remembered, we feel valuable, it was very kind. When I dined at Taste he was so kind and helpful. Our room steward, James was very responsive, and great at his job, we a party of 3 adored him, were grateful for his help and kindness, not to mention his towel folding ability was greatly appreciated. The food was great, some of the best that I ever ate. I loved dining in the Manhattan Room, the broths Pho in the Garden Buffet was amazing and lifesaving to both my cabin mate and I. My friend spent a ton of time at the smoker’s area on Deck 17 and had a blast with all the wonderful people she met there. I was very fond of deck areas on 7 that were outside and so comfortable, I found many folks there who like my friends and I enjoyed being out of the harsh sun. We saw everything we wanted to and marveled at the wonders of nature that we experienced. Whales, flying fish and the west coast equivalent of the end of the continent. My ADA stateroom was clean and welcoming. When we began to plan this trip, we were unaware that our cruise began on the day of the show we had waited for 2 years to see, would premier on the first day of our cruise. We were VERY concerned about what we should do, and my internet package which was suggested by one of your call center employees allowed me to watch Game of Thrones, which was an event that my cruise mates were so excited to share. Thanks to that person for making our day. I wish I had written his name down as it was soo special to be able to do that. Attention to hand sanitizing was vigilant and I appreciated the staff assigned to those stations. A couple of my cruise-mates I and have worked in many theatres and we were not very impressed with Havana, as it was a confusing storyline. However, it was well sung, danced and the acting was pretty good. That said, Jersey Boys was a treat to the senses. The singing was great! Despite the noise from below our feet as the show was in its first half hour, and the rolling of the ship, the cast did not miss a beat or step. The lighting was unexpected, and I would like to extend my appreciation for the cast and crew. They transitioned from one effect to costume changes to moving of set pieces in a non-obtrusive manner which is appreciated by those of us who have worked for many many years in this field. One of our party is a Drama teacher and I am a retired stage manager, who is married to a lighting designer. In other words, we know a good show when we see one and we saw a great show on this cruise. The ship is beautiful, huge and well designed. huge It could use better signage, maps and directions as it’s a huge ship and mid ship is hard to find. Now for what was not great, no, not great at all. I was very uncomfortable navigating the halls with your room service carts. I rented the smallest of scooters and still got stuck nearly every day in the halls due to them taking up all the hall space that would allow walking and those of us requiring mobility assistance needed to proceed. Your staff seemed inconvenienced by my NEED to have them position the cart so that not only I but others could navigate to our staterooms from the common areas. A suggestion: can the staff move the carts into the alcoves of the rooms that they are cleaning? Could they somehow be more aware of their blocking the hallways which is dangerous for us. As the rooms they are cleaning are usually empty, this seems like an easy fix for those of us with strollers or other mobility assistance devices required to have the same experience as those who can walk. People are very helpful, but they are not always. Those who can walk are sometimes unaware that they should be more aware of those who cannot walk. I saw parents bring this to their children’s attention, but not for days did it register. I pay to be able to travel without discrimination and the lack of any way to get to my stateroom due to the elevators being crammed full of people who could walk, was really frustrating and off putting since it was easily corrected. This brings me to another complaint. When we who require an elevator to navigate from our staterooms to any place on the ship, we have to wait because there is no room for us in the elevators, We wait and wait for nearly 20 minutes as I did my first day, it seems obvious to me that at those peak hours you reserve a family/mobility assistance elevator for us? That way people like me would not look into an elevator full of people who are clueless and do not even appear to notice that they could use the steps instead of monopolizing the only way we with mobility issues would be able to get to where we need to go, this was true at the muster and every day there was a shore excursion, and again at debarkation. Signage, like busses have reminding people that they can/should give others a chance. This usually applies to those traveling with children, disabilities and others with special needs. To throw us into the general population to fend for ourselves is not a way to assist us with obtaining our needs. Additionally, please provide the ingredients on the menus, like agave instead of honey. I am allergic to agave and when I ate at Margaritaville, I had a salad that had agave instead of honey. I did not put this food allergy down as with my shellfish allergy manage it myself. However, I was sick for 2 days and very uncomfortable and felt terrible. I will never not list that again, however, remember, until this trip and my meal at Margaritaville did I need to even mention it. No restaurant, café, nothing before this instance. And finally, I was called twice from 8:00 am to 8:05 am to ensure that I come to guest services to collect a nonrefundable deposit. Since I was returning my scooter to the same place it was in my plans anyway. When I got there I got into an expected line. I waited while the staff took care of each one of the guests who proceeded me in a very efficient and what appeared to be a very respectful manner. When it came to me, I was asked to wait as the person answered a call, then he went to another guest at a location where they were seated. He then went behind the desk, remember I have now waited in my mobility scooter, while he cared for no less than 3 guests ahead of me while I was seated first in line. As I have mentioned, I waited a lot on this trip and at the end of it demanding that I wait while others were receiving respectful treatment was truly above my patience level. I yelled and pointed at the very rude gentlemen, who sent over a really nice Asian woman, who apologized for my dissatisfaction with my treatment, to which I told her, I appreciated her gracious apology, but it did not excuse the rude behavior that her predecessor had assaulted me with. You see when it has been clear that the only thing about you, that mattered to NCL was the money I spent. My comfort was never a priority, that is a really a bad thing to say about a cruise, isn’t it? As you may be able to tell, I enjoyed this as much as I could, but in the face of rude and disinterested staff, which by the way, this is my 5th cruise but my first and probably last on NCL. You see there was cruise to Greece presentation that my cruise mate and I had always wanted to take, which because of my rude treatment we both decided that we would look elsewhere, I was also interested in purchasing a trip for my sister to Hawaii as a retirement present. One person is responsible for those choices otherwise I would be booked for at least two more cruises for at least 6 more people. This is a very unfortunate choice that I feel I MUST make for my own safety, and the enjoyment of my companions. Please consider that I am aware of the difficulty of managing everyone’s good time and how hard that work can be. However, it was a costly trip, I was denied upgrades because of my mobility disability and the above difficulties made this a very painful experience both emotionally and physically. Getting stuck in the hallway was scary. This was a treat for myself and my friends of over 40 years. They helped me tons. They were not supposed to have to. They are both nearly 70 and they were moving carts out of the way, not your staff, whom were oblivious to what they caused in the hallways and when they were asked for help, they were as I said with few exceptions notably inconvenienced. Getting on board was very efficient both I and my travelling companions were so impressed by your staff and their understanding of the mobility challenged and the same was true once I got a wheelchair and was off on the debarkation adventure. I was so secure in the gentleman who helped me to get off the ship and to the bench before I caught the cab. I found so many comfortable places to rest play and eat. I needed the rest, as did my companions and we all enjoyed the Observation Lounge and the side decks around 7 and 8 which had the perfect shade and temperature for us elder travelers. When I tried to contact the special assistance coordinator, all I got was a form letter, twice. Weather was great, travel to and from was great, only the items listed above were reasons to mention anything other than my appreciation, that said there should be nothing. I was appalled that a person in a walker was left to fend for herself at the dock in Puerta Vallarta. Equally appalling was the fact that this was witnessed by several cruisers and let’s face it the woman using the walker was the most responsible in her party as she was at the dock. Hoping for rescue only to see her chance sail away. NCL is not completely responsible and did everything to warn those who went ashore that they were to keep to ship time, and it was clear that these people were not able to adhere to the rules, nor keep time, it was still horrible to see an elder left at the dock. My culture says that we never leave our elders out. I understand that this is unique. ¬¬¬ Please understand that it is solely my poor treatment at checkout that cost you two cruises, and about 6-10 thousand dollars Thank you for a good time as far as it went. I wish I didn’t have to bring your attention to the details above, but they were glaring to me and deserved comment. I will attempt ¬¬to warn others about the possibilities they may face at the guest services check out desk and, in the hallways, as well as the elevators. To be treated as a lesser species by the very people who are benefiting from my spending, is harsh treatment to say the least. Read Less

We wanted to get away for a short cruise so went on this 7 day to Mexico on a Medallion class ship. The medallion level isn't what is cracked up to be. Where as your embarkation is supposed to be faster, I saw no difference from my Elite Priority Boarding. They need to get staff up to speed on this new Medallion boarding, example: We preregistered on line by scanning passports and photos, yet we had to produce our passports 3 times when once would have been adequate. The upgrade of the TV system is excellent when it was working, was down 3 out of 7 days and why they would only have 4 episodes of Love Boat is beyond me as Princess Cruises has always touted their affiliation with the Love Boat series. They should have all of the episodes available. The ones they were displaying were the same ones we had on our Japan Trip last year. The food was not what we consider 5 star, the beef being served in the dining room and buffet was tough and tasteless. My experience in the dining room was excellent (waiter was very attentive) and for the 17th time I did not get assigned to the table with the correct number of passengers, ask for four got two. The 2 production show were superb especially the one with the guest vocalist. The comedian was horrible. , . The disembarkation was was flawless was fast and efficient. Unfortunately, this cruise had several issues which made the experience less than optimum. This was our 43rd cruise, our 9th on Princess. We normally cruise on Celebrity, so we have something to compare. The overall cruise was very nice with the following exceptions: (1) The "best internet at sea" was much less than the moniker would indicate! There were problems logging on, and even worse, logging off. The first day we used all 250 minutes while trying desperately to log off! To their credit, the minutes were restored, but the problems continued throughout the cruise. There were times when the service was extremely slow and others when it actually locked up. Could be a band width issue. There appears to be many issues which need to be addressed before this internet service is ready for prime time. (2) Two of the production shows were the same ones we saw in December on the Crown Princess and were good but not spectacular. The third production show was only thirty (30) minutes long with no costume changes or set changes. Singers and dancers were good as usual, but nothing exceptional. The Naturalist actually saved the day for us! He was interesting, knowledgeable, and in many cases extremely funny and personable. He was our highlight of the on-board entertainment. (3) Now for the main issue that soured the sweetness. The Anytime dining experience started out with 10-15 minute waiting times, which is acceptable for the first few days. During the middle of the cruise, the waiting times disappeared as one would expect. But on the final Formal Night (which, by the way, should be made OPTIONAL, since the dining room staff was allowing people in jeans and tee shirts in the dining room on all three Formal Nights!) we were told that the wait would be about 15-30 minutes. We were given a pager and retreated to the hallway outside the dining room where we waited FIFTY (50) MINUTES. We finally went to the greeter with our complaint and were escorted UPSTAIRS to the other dining room, where we were seated and then waited 10 more minutes before getting served. Apparently they were accommodating two (2) tables of $100.00 a plate "special diners", and it appeared that they were sorely understaffed to serve everyone. The lobster was tasteless and the usual cheerful wait staff appeared to be less than thrilled to be working that night! Very strange indeed.... Makes me want to rethink my cruise line choices in the future. Having trashed Princess, let me say there were pluses on board. Again, the Naturalist was our saving grace for the lecturers. The other lecturer was focused on Olympic history and was interesting for the first ten minutes, but after that worked the same as a double-dose of Nyquil for me. What the hell, one can always use a short nap on a cruise, right?!?!? The other highlight of our cruise was the Starlight Lounge, which I have commented on above. Read Less

We choose this cruise as it went south rather than the 4 day cruises we have done in the past. The weather did not disappoint. I was worried about the size of the ship, but there was no need to. With the areas organized the way they are, there is always a place to find solitude if that's what you want. Yes, if you want to sit in a specific area for Princess Theatre or Movies Under the Stars, you must get there early and yes, we found lots of people saving spots, but we got to those areas early enough (usually an hour early) and found what we wanted. The Entertainment was fantastic. We went to the early Princess Theatre production every night. Horizon is amazingly large and easy to navigate which we were so pleased with that we never even made it to the dining room on this cruise. We did not choose a cabin that we liked, as we were directly under the area of the outside burger place, and during the day there were chairs scraped across the floor and lots of foot steps overhead, but it was absolutely fine in the evening and at night. Service was terrific. Wherever we were, lots of people asking if we wanted or needed anything. I cannot say enough about our Stateroom Steward Christian. He always remembered our names and if he was going down the hallway, he would open our door for us before we even got there. Medallion is still in it's infancy and we only used it for opening our doors and to pay for drinks and merchandise. Messaging was easy (as long as you check frequently). Overall, yes, we would do this specific cruise again and yes, we would choose the Royal Princess. Read Less

We always choose Princess. This was convenient because we arrived at the port by bus chartered by Murdock Travel here in St George, Utah. We love your Horizon Court. It has a great variety of food to choose from. Also traditional dining was excellent. Those that waited on us did a great job. The one complaint we has have was at the Crab Shack. We have enjoyed crab legs in the past on previous cruises but those served that night were fishy and tough. Those that waited on us were excellent. The entertainment in the Princess Theater was outstanding. We especially enjoyed the individuals that were guest performers. Our room steward Dennis, was cheerful and very helpful. We are always impressed with all those that work on the ship. Everyone was very friendly and always looked very nice. We have sailed over 25 times on Princess and will continue to support this fine cruise line. Read Less

This is my 3rd cruise w/ Princess, and 2nd on the same route. The ship’s decor and public areas are kept neat and clean while our cabin were always pristine. Dining is a big disappointment, both buffet and formal dining, food are either average or below, very poor quality, and salty at times. Ship crews need to smile more and learn to throw pleasant greetings - it’s a stressful job but this is a customer service oriented business. Shore excursions are fun especially with booze included, food are not impressive, no varieties except selections of chicken, pork and steak tacos. Most of the excursion locations are overflowing with other cruise passengers that it’s like a zoo out there - not enjoyable seeing people instead of learning what the excursion is all about. These locations could have served a premium drink instead of unlimited watered-down drinks. Embarkation and disembarkation are well managed and efficient. Read Less

Coral Princess is my kind of ship. The public areas are extensive, comfortable and inviting and there was rarely a crowded feel. We had 8 sea days, and were never bored. Princess had a packed schedule every day and there was always something to do. The food in the main dining room was excellent, varied and beautifully presented. Breakfast in all venues was uninspired but the quality of the pastries, breads and fruit selections was wonderful. Afternoon tea was fabulous! Although I loved the lunch I had eaten in the dining room on the first day, we decided to pass on that and just scavenge at the buffet the rest of the trip (excellent cheeses, breads, sandwiches, salads and shrimp) so we could justify attending the tea. I love the way Princess makes it a point to seat people in groups in the dining room - at every meal you meet and enjoy different people and make new friends. Even when we decided to eat at a table alone, we were so close to our neighbors that it was easy to strike up a conversation - or not, whichever worked best. "Ocean Concierge" is a very fine feature. We logged into the ship's internet, and could see the day's schedule right on our phones. We could tap in and read about the shore excursions we had scheduled, and add daily events to our own personal itinerary. I could "share" an event with my husband, who could then add it to his list. The app also offered texting capability, Although this was of limited usefulness since you didn't know there was a text if the app wasn't open. Still, it made it easier to "find each other" on those busy days. We booked all our shore excursions (and we booked at least one at each port) through Princess and were really glad we did. Two of our excursions were the last to arrive back at the ship, and they arrived after the "all aboard" had sounded. I would have been a nervous wreck if I hadn't known that the Coral would wait. The excursions were generally quite good, the ports were interesting and the organization was superb. We have been on far too many ships where the instructions were to "meet the bus on the pier" and let the devil take the hindmost. Each of our tours started out in the dining room, where we were given our group number, and we were called and escorted off the ship when our group was ready. Specialty dining was a waste. We only did it because it was a gift, but we had been looking forward to a nice, spicy meal at the Bayou. Instead we got a lot of salt and too much meat. It just confirmed my long held belief about specialty dining: We're better off in the main dining room. Everything else was lovely. Common areas were beautifully decorated and all carpets and artwork were attractive and tasteful. What more to say? I would go on the Coral Princess again in a heartbeat. Read Less

Choose for the Panama Canal crossing. The entertainment was good overall. The meals were medium good but not noteworthy. We ate in buffet, both main dining rooms and 3 specialty restaurants. Only Cagney's was worth the money. Desserts with the exception of ice cream were uniformly disappointing. The shops devoted too much space to high end jewelry and perfume (money makers?) and nothing to makeup or sundries or candy. Liked the shore excursions we took and fond them very enjoyable. Staff was very friendly. Enjoyed cruise director Dave and the Captain too. the hypnotist/comedian was not anyone I would want to see again. Jennifer Fair was delightful once again. the production band and cast did a very good job. Atrium music bounced up to the internet cafe and was deafening! acoustic issue. Although recently refurbished, The Star seemed drab and and the decor old. Overall we had a good time but are unlikely to choose another NCL cruise unless family or friends invite us to sail with them. Read Less
