Embarkation at Southampton was quick & efficient, cabin was fine though a little minimalist in its decor. Our cabin steward, Anand, was excellent and we thanked him very much for his work and his friendliness. Dining: We generally ate in the MDR as the Oceanview Cafe was like a ferry with good food options but chaos trying to move around the serving isles and finding a table... One fellow passenger referred to the Cafe as "...a bunfight.." The food in the MDR was good overall and our servers - Jobita and Pavel, were very good, friendly and efficient. The Aqua Spa Cafe was a nice touch though it wasn't clear exactly what was included and what we had to pay for, also the staff there were fairly miserable.... We ate in Murano twice and Tuscan Grille once, the food was good BUT not worth the extra $50 per head extra on top of what we'd already paid for the MDR. The menus are limited in each restaurant. I also did a galley tour whilst on a sea day and that was good but ended up as a selling exercise :( Three sea days on the trot is not much fun when the sea was rough and we couldn't wait to get off at Sao Miguel. All the port days were very enjoyable as were the two excursions we did - Sao Miguel - Crater Lakes and Teide National Park, Tenerife. In general the crew and especially the officers we saw around the ship were quite offish and made little or no attempt to even say "Hello", this we found very odd and rude and not like other cruise lines we've used; perhaps some customer service training would be a good idea? So they remember why we're all here on the ship. Other niggles were : $4.50 for a small bottle of water!!! $10 for port shuttle buses and why are coffees/teas not included free with a meal, especially in the speciality dining rooms? We didn't once order a coffee after a meal as we knew we'd have to pay extra for them. This is poor and again unlike other "premium" cruise lines. Entertainment: OMG, I don't think we managed to last more that 10 minutes at any event we went too, it was somewhat Butlins like and not for us; and judging by the empty seats then not for others either! The cruise director was too loud & over the top with her 10:00 am announcements and general chat so much so that I'd turn our cabin TV up so we'd not have to listen. So, overall it was a mixed cruise experience and we're unlikely to use Celebrity again. Shame, as we'd heard good things about them. They may think they're a luxury/premium cruise line but the level of service is the first thing you'd notice. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary as we had cruised in the Mediterranean previously and wanted to see somewhere different. We stayed in the Blue Keys Hotel in Southampton which was really lovely, we had an excellent meal there. I would recommend as it approximately 10 minutes from the port. Embarkation went very smoothly, no queueing. While the ship was lovely there was less to do on board compared to the Jewel of the Seas which had a rock climbing wall, pool table, mini golf and a sports court, also there was more entertainment in the various bars and certainly more seating. We felt that the ship was very crowded, we were on the second sitting in the Cuvee MDR and having finished our meal we found it almost impossible to find a seat to enjoy the entertainment in the Passport bar. We would then have to trawl the bars looking for seats. On the last silent disco evening we had to pull stools from the Casino in order to sit down. There were 2 couples in our party and having spent almost €10,000 (this included flights and hotel stay in Southampton) between us we felt this was not good enough. There was a similar situation in the Ocean View at breakfast and lunch which felt chaotic at times and also in Cafe al Bacio, a beautiful space but with not enough seating. We found this very frustrating. Another issue was the fact that they ran out of drinks several times, we felt having spent a fair amount of money on the classic drinks package that this was unacceptable. When we went to customer services to complain we were told that the Beverage Manager was too busy to come and talk to us, which was very bad form indeed. We had already complained to the bar staff but the buck stops with the Beverage Manager. There should have been more space between the sunbeds, they were so cramped which would be ok if you knew the person on the sunbed beside you but way to close for comfort if you didn’t!! I have to give full credit to the staff and crew they were all excellent, so professional and friendly. Overall we had a good time but Celebrity really need to sort out these issues and give customers what they have paid for. Read Less

This was our third cruise on Silhouette and took us to the Azores Madieira Tenerife and Lisbon. We thought the food and service were excellent. Our main grumble is the same as previous reviews in that there are too many passengers on board when the ship is not in sunny climates. On the way to the Azores we had to vere a different course to what was planned due to the remnants of a Carribbean ,this meant the weather was not good enough to sit outside with the result everyone was in public rooms . There was no spare seats anywhere and obtaining a table in the Ocean view dining area was very difficult.Because of this we chose to have several lunches in the grand dining room whi Ch proved to suit us better. Another problem with the overcrowding was when we had our boat drill in the theatre it was impossible to exit due to so many people waiting for lifts.Celebrity class there ships as luxury ,in luxury I do not expect to have these problems and yet they are still going to add more new cabins in the upcoming refit. Mont seems to be the main thought in Celebrity's motives. Read Less

Food was inconsistent We had cold rib eye steaks Tough/ undercooked duck Semi frozen French toast Cold Lobster Been on the Celebrity Eclipse many times. Never had a problem. Also drinks package "classic" would not let us have sparkling water only Soda water BUT In the bar a double Henessy brandy no problem. Staff generally were brilliant let down by poor chef. The ship sailed through Bay of Biscay and withstood terrible weather. The Captain re routed on the way out to avoid bad weather. Captain George was very good when he gave 45 minute address. Entertainment was not bad but the Phil Collins Tribute was poor and we walked. Michelle Monro talks were all excellent . She gave emotional address every one of 4 lectures we went to. DNA talks by visiting Dr.Gary on board about Amanda knox and an american footballer O.J.Simpson were also very good Shifting of deck furniture at 3.30 am above us deck 11 was not welcome. Room service for breakfast on last day was not available. Blu opened at 6.30 am and we had to disembark at 7.00am . Not good. Read Less

We were recommended Celebrity by our TA who said once we had used them we would never go back to other cruise lines. The check in was very good and we were on board by 11am in good time for lunch, but our first impression of the ship was dull and drab. The general look was brown and beige with seating that would not look out of place in a nursing home. but I will go in more detail later. The food in the buffet was very good and the service for drinks was quite quick, there is enough seating in the buffet and the staff were good and always happy to have a chat. We ate most of our evening meals in the MDR and found the food to be of good quality and with a good range of choice but they do seem to have a thing for mashed potato. the service was quick but a little strange. We were on a table for 10 (though it should have been 2) my wife sitting next to me was always served first followed by the other ladies on the table and then the men were served with me last, this meant that my wife had almost finished her course by the time I had got mine served. I know its manners to serve the ladies first but I did think we were in the age of equality. There was no issues with the drinks though at all times even in the bars they need both of your cards when you are on a package and yet other lined seem to cope with only one, it is pretty obvious when you are together and not getting drinks for a third party, but I guess rules are rules. we were very disappointed with the entertainment on many levels, firstly the theatre shows; the Jersey Boys tribute on the first night was very good but things went down hill from there. On the second night the team did a vocal tribute to the shows, starting with La Mis. and then they got very self indulgent singing songs from shows that no one seemed to have heard of. The stage setting is just a blank black stage with no props and no scenery. We went to the next production show and once again it was a blank stage and just about killed the show, a lot of people were walking out but out of respect we sat through to the end and it was dire. Other acts around the ship (at most 2) were set either in the atrium of the pub style bar on deck 5. The atrium has big nursing home style chairs and a capacity for about 30 people. if you are not in a seat by 6pm then you have to either stand or sit on the floor to see the act. In the bar on deck 5 there is more seating but most of it is well away from where the act is performing, once again the chairs are large high back and they take up a lot of room limiting the availability. Every other ship we have been on (and there are a lot) have an entertainment lounge at the back of the ship to compliment the theatre at the front. On this ship that space is taken up with select dining that does not seem to be used as much as it should. If you like to dance then this is not the ship for you, there are only two spaces; one being the atrium with a very small odd shaped space and the other is the sky lounge with a good floor that goes wasted for much of the time. They advertise a "Ballroom playlist hour" in the sky lounge each evening at 8pm and we went very expectantly. The music was on auto play at background music level and there is no member of staff to organise it. The music is so quiet that you can hear your feet on the floor over the music. Some novice dancers were unsure what dance was playing and it ended up with about four different dances being attempted at the same time. We gave up after that but asked the entertainment manager if they could sort things out but her reply was "we only really do food and if you like dancing you would be better going on P&O) not a good representative for the company. On the day we were to land at the Azores we were informed that we would be 3 hour late but as a sweetener they would show a film, the film was set to run from 12 noon for over 2 hours so the choice was either lunch or film, bit of good organising there. On one night during the evening meal we were approached by the maitre d of the main dining room and asked if we had considered the speciality dining and I explained that we found the cost to be prohibitive. He then offered us the opportunity to experience the "Tuscan Grille" at a reduced price of $25 and we agreed and the meal was booked for 6pm. We were sat in a large empty room just the 2 of us for the first 45 minutes, so not very popular. One of the courses I ordered was a half portion of meat balls in spaghetti, part way through the meal I started choking and my wife pulled a long piece of string (about 2ft / 60cm long) from my throat. The string was quite thick and having been cooked with the spaghetti it was the same colour and indistinguishable from the pasta and could have caused a fatality. My wife called the waiter who took the food to the kitchen and the maitre d and the head chef came to the table to apologise, the food was not replaced and they just served the next course. We did not hear anything else about the incident. On checking my account on the following day I found that we had been overcharged ($30 each I would have expected at least some recompense for the incident ) I then approached the same member of staff who had made the offer and he denied that he had made the offer. I then explained that due to his denial I would now be making a formal complaint via guest services and this would continue via the channels I am now using. Whilst I was reporting the matter he came over with the head of the Tuscan Grille stating that they would resolve the matter. The following day my account had been altered to $25 each, though this is what we had originally agreed it goes a long way short of recompense for the pain and indignity of the whole experience. Finally would I choose Celebrity again? if you had a bad meal in a restaurant would you go again, if you had a bad time in a hotel would you go there again and if you had bad treatment on a ship........ Ill leave you to fill in the space. The last place I need to report on is the Coffee lounge, again it had nursing home chairs and people spent all day there either asleep or reading books. Every one we spoke to called it the nursing home, and don't expect to find the fancy cakes you see on the videos it is mainly danish pastries and muffins. Read Less

I'll apologise now if this is a long review but it has to be said. This was our 5th Celebrity cruise and the 2nd on The Silhouette. We love the Celebrity brand and have only ever cruised with them. I often read reviews and realise that SOME people exaggerate. I hope to give it a fair and balanced review. First the good points ! Stateroom fine 1245 on Deck 10 Concierge. Near the lifts but not noisy in any way at all.Considered going Aqua for same price but was warned off by reviews which said that Aqua staterooms were under pool areas and were noisy early morning with chairs being dragged around. Our steward Jon was fabulous and deserves a mention. Everywhere was kept clean and he was very friendly. For reasons that will become apparent below we were really glad that we had our own balcony and we used it a lot. We ate in the Main Dining Room at a table for 2 ( We had asked for a 2 when we booked but were initially put on a 6 and this was quickly rectified) Thank Goodness because we must have had the BEST waiting staff ever. Yanti, Santi, and Sommelier Aneesh really looked after us well and were so friendly and kind it made the cruise for us. Assistant Maitre D' Pero never stopped walking around making sure all guests were happy and always had a friendly word, lovely man ! On other cruises we have always eaten at 8.30pm and watched the late show at 10pm This cruise was dining at 6pm or 8.30pm with the shows at 7pm and 9pm. In our opinion this didn't work. The theatre entertainment was at best fabulous to very very bad. One comedian was horrendous and deeply out of his depth. One of his first comments was something about Americans then "That's why the Brits hate you !" You can imagine the feeling after the initial intake of breath? He needs to find another job because he wasn't funny. The 3 guys singing Motown were superb as were the resident band and entertainment team. Sue Denning the Cruise Director did a great job with Pete as her assistant and never appeared to stop working. Music acts around the ship was ok but with some the songs were repetitive as was the late night disco...same songs each night. All the staff on board were brilliant,we couldn't fault them. They work long hours but always have a smile and a polite hello. Now for the down sides. There were 600 (Babies to 18yrs) children on a cruise that patently couldn't cater for them. They would have been better suited on Royal Caribbean where they have more things to do. First I'd like to say that the majority were well mannered and polite. However there were a huge minority who were not and were allowed to run feral around the ship with the accent on run ! They must have been bored because they were forever playing on the stairs. They ran through Oceanview buffet restaurant or walked at you in groups with no intention of moving around you. These tended to be 9-14 yr olds. I also personally saw a child on his own run through the main dining room to the toilet with waiters carrying trays loaded with food having to swerve out of his way. At night they congregated in the Hideaway or the Library, swinging around in the chairs, throwing cushions around, leaving cans lying littering the floor. The older teenagers seemed to walk around in packs and although I never saw any bad behaviour they seemed blind to the fact that other people were around. I've read a review earlier on from a parent criticising Celebrity for not putting enough things on for kids. I don't think they realise that this is not that sort of ship ! in our previous cruises there were about 20 children and you hardly ever saw them. That's why we were astounded to find 600 on board ! If we had known we would never have booked this cruise. Celebrity please either change how many children you welcome on board or let people know its going to be like Butlins ! The New moon party on deck was something we looked forward to. We didn't expect there to be both pools full of screaming children of all ages, the youngest we saw was 3/4 and this was at 10.30pm. Because they were in and out of the water the deck was awash and a poor pool attendant was desperately trying to keep everywhere dry to avoid accidents as it was very slippy. We didn't stay long as this was more like a Carnival or Disney cruise and not what we'd signed up for. We spoke to many parents who didn't know where their children were and some who obviously didn't care. I spoke to a couple who said their 14yr old son had come back the night before at 1.45am and they were in bed ! I could go on but I think you get the idea by now. DON'T book a cruise in the school holidays with Celebrity. I spoke to many people who said it was their first cruise and would never cruise again. Such a shame ! It has put us off cruising with Celebrity again after singing their praises previously. We may try it again out of school holidays or try an adults only ship with another company. Besides the children we were disappointed with the shops on board. They had exactly the same things as they did last year. Everything very overpriced or cheap and nasty stuff in the sales they had. Excursions were ridiculously overpriced and the overwhelming feeling was that Celebrity are getting greedy, pushing trips, speciality dining and photographers circulating the Dining room while you are eating then charging silly prices for photos. I'm sorry if I've gone on but I wanted to give a balanced view instead of moaning about one thing. Despite all this we managed to have a nice time. Read Less

Chose this cruise because it was one of the very few Med itineraries offered by Celebrity they seem to mostly do Northern Europe or canaries. When booked early June was surprised to see how many cabins where still available. Embarkation was very good as usual, just after leaving Southampton Captain announced visit to Vigo was off due to bad weather these things happen so no problem. 1st sea day weather was not good so not a lot of people on deck but started to notice how full the ship was, mostly families was told by members of staff there where 600 children on this cruise compared with 16 on the previous cruise. The ship is starting to look a bit tired now rust and flaking paint in lots of areas but was informed it’s going to be refurbished next year.the cabin 1B balcony had a few issues sound on tv wouldn’t work sometimes and no night light in the bathroom which was repaired on day 2. Dining in the MDR was ok but seemed rushed we where on select dining and booked all our times on the cruise planner days before which was good because a lot of guests who just turned up ended waiting up to 60 mins to get a table Oceanview cafe was always busy due to the large amount of guests on this cruise a few complaints about the food not being hot The entertainment was average have been on a few celebrity Cruisesthe last few years and the main shows have not changed Service was not as good as recent cruises I think it may be due to the crew/ guest ratio on this particular cruise Ports of call, missed Vigo due to weather,Lisbon,Barcelona and Gibraltar were the only stops we got off which were all good, stayed on the ship for the other port days and it was heaven Sea days sunbeds not a problem just no space to pitch one, families taking 4 beds at a time but only 2 being used, impossible to get a bed by the pool unless you put a towel on a bed at 7am, (9 cruises on Celebrity never seen this before) Have been on Royal Caribbean ships and are great for families mainly because there is loads for children to do,flow ride, mountain wall ,etc.but on Celebrity ships they haven’t got these so children make there own fun ,chasing up and down stairs in and out of lifts. how much soft scoop can I get in a cone to name just 2 but their where a few more and staff didn’t seem to bring the to task, this was more like a Royal Caribbean ship but without the activities to use Will probably do Celebrity again but not in school holidays relaxing this cruise was not. We chose this cruise as we have sailed with celebrity twice before on different ships and were very satisfied with them. As it was our wedding anniversary we upgraded to a corner sky suite with a larger balcony (Was the best thing about the cruise). Overall it was a disappointing experience due to the high amount of passengers and cramped deck space. It seemed like there wasn't enough capacity in the bars and restaurants to cope. The evening entertainment was also in the main poor with a rush to get seated for the big shows and very little in the way of waiter service. The lawned areas of the deck in my opinion are also a wasted space useful only for more revenue for celebrity to charge extra for alcoves. As this was our anniversary we were told that we would receive a meal in one of the specialty restaurants but this did not happen and flowers and champagne bought for us by a friend only arrived when we were going to bed. We didn't even get a window seat in Luminae that night. The last time we cruised with celebrity was my wife's 50th birthday and was treated to the captain's table and an expensive bottle of champagne. Excursions were good and well organised. Overall it wasn't a bad cruise but for the money I would expect a lot better. Read Less

My wife and I are fans of Celebrity, they just know what they're doing when it comes to cruising, service etc, usually that is! This cruise we felt Celebrity may have bitten off more than they could chew - so many kids set the crew up for a difficult set of circumstances. I'm sure the security guys were glad to see the back of (some) of the kids. That along with some bumpy weather, this cruise could be considered hard work for the Celebrity crew. We thought the food was always good, the Oceanview cafe was crowded, but once your seating was secured the meals were fine. Whoever was cooking the 'Indian Delights' needs a pay rise - loved it! The guys in the main dining room always do a great job, once again we thought the food was good, consistent standard, plus if you want more, just ask! As usual (with Celebrity) our stateroom attendant was awesome, always had our room spotless, she was even working thru the days she wasn't feeling great. (Bumpy weather) We thought the nightly shows were a touch inconsistent, a couple of beauties a couple of duds. The acrobatic kids were a definite highlight, so brave! We love a good comedian, we had three different guys this time - one great, one not so good and the other actually sang better than his comedy. Altho he came up with a couple of cracker jokes! My fav was about what his pet hate was? Having to give our first port of call a miss due to bad weather made for a few more sea days than we had expected, daily activities were a bit limited. The ports of a call were all interesting, altho a few extra costs involved with shuttles etc didn't go down well with most people we spoke to. Especially in Marseille, passengers asked to pay $20 for a shuttle into the city, only to go past the free shuttle 100m down the road!! Even though this cruise had it's issues, and it wasn't our best, we always enjoy our cruising, so didn't let the problems spoil the fun!! Read Less

I chose Celebrity because we had sailed on the Eclipse two years ago and then Royal Caribbean’s Independence last year and felt that Celebrity was the better option. But I think they have got complacent and it seems to have extended to the bar staff who need a serious lesson in customer service. The bar service, particularly in the Sky Lounge was appalling, rarely a smile or any eye contact at all....perhaps it was being reserved for Premium package customers...! Entertainment poor by comparison with previous cruises. Theatre group had a couple of decent shows but the ‘Cabaret’ acts were poor....particularly when you consider the cost of this cruise. There was a reasonable Phil Collins tribute (although why he felt the need to keep doing the splits was somewhat bewildering) and a comedian, Jon Courtenay, was the highlight. The rest was forgettable. The last comedian had taken 36 hours to get to the boat....and spent the first 20 minutes of his act telling us all about it...he needn’t have bothered....he died on his backside. Dining was good...but let down again by lack of drinks waiters in Sea View....and just lack of availability in main dining room, particularly for ‘anytime’ diners. Big shout must go to John, our Cabin attendant, who was outstanding and also Tessa, a waitress in the main Theatre. Both could teach the bar staff a thing or two about customer service. It actually seemed that the staff in the lower paid positions actually offered the best service.....maybe when they get to Bar Staff they are encouraged to turn their smile off...! The stop offs were mostly good; we made our own arrangements for each one because of the extortionate prices of the onboard excursions. Shame they only had one ‘pool party’ which was in Barcelona because we stayed on till later. The sonly rice would have to improve considerably if I were to consider Celebrity again, particularly in view of the prices of the 2020 cruises....particularly on the new boats. Read Less

We chose this cruise to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary paying full price at the start of the year, first time ever cruising so expected to be wowed! Our room is clean and comfortable and we have no complaints there. The main pool area is in my mind ‘Benidorm on Sea’ loud, packed like sardines next to each other and with children dominating the very small pool. People reserving beds. We have resulted in either sitting in a chair on the back deck or lying uncomfortably on the grass. I did make a complaint about this but I did not receive any further correspondence. Food is excellent, large choice offered with choice of self service and formal dining. However all meals are warm only not hot as they should be. Some fellow passengers do not make an effort to dress for dinner which is disappointing and not as expected on a higher calibre of cruising company. Frustrating to know that some passengers have paid half the price we have during sale periods and that children are free. Evening entertainment is good in the main stage area however late evening disco/band for over 25’s is non existent apart from a silent disco, great fun but finishes way too early. First day on board we joined a guided tour of the ship to be told the Silhouette is having a full refurb at the end of the year. It does look tired in some areas. Read Less

The itinerary was what prompted me to take this cruise, the ship was luxurious and the staff very professional. The average rating comes from the main dining room food, small portions, and average quality. Some excursion staff is sadly lacking in experience knowledge and organization! Missing excursion tickets, after several attempts and frustrating times dealing with the excursion staff at their counter, after quining up the day prior to the excursion. The day arrived for the excursion, but still no tickets. Again a very frustrating time at the excursion desk trying to explain my predicament and then finally a different staff member, just "reprinted" the required tickets, of cause I asked why not so in the first place?? Some on ship meeting points were too small and too many people squeezed into this space for too long at the time, very bad! Instead of leaving the ship as 1 group on the correct advertised time, guests were already on the tour bus and those on time were almost late! Bella balcony cabin has no chair, a cube. The theatre entertainment started to repeat after 7 days on a 14-day cruise. The gangway was often a problem, whether it was only 1 in use for passengers coming and going with a lot of elderly people in wheelchairs or walking difficulty, so a very slow process. Then some times the gangway in use was just too steep, even for a healthy person. Upon your return from your excursion, unlike many other cruises lines, there was No refreshing welcome drink and cool handtowel waiting for you........... Read Less

We have taken more than 20 Celebrity Cuises and chose this itinerary as it sailed from and returned to Southampton for a no fly Cruise as my wife has walking difficulties and did not wish to fly. We had an Accessible Suite which was ok but looking dated in decor but was otherwise finebut the wet room shower leaked water all around the bathroom which we avoided by placing towels s a water break. The main problem was incessant noise from the cafe overhead and overnight disturbing our sleep in the small hours of the morning. Also a strong smell of fried onions and garlic pervaded the corridor outside the cabinand at times was also inside the cabin. The ship is otherwise a modern cruise ship with. good facilitates but in inclement weather there is insufficient comfortable seating . Unfortunately we had several days of poor weather. The seating looks modern but the seat depth does not work well if you are much under 6 foot as your feet might not touch the floor. The quality of the food has deteriorated and many of the steak meals the meet is tastes likeit has been heavily over salted. This was explained " the tougher cuts of meat aremarinated to soften the meat and make it edible". The service in the Luminae Restaurant was excellent We enjoyed the shows but the timings have changed to 7 pm pre dinner and 9 pm post dinner which means a rush to get ready for the early show and then struggling to get a tableat 8 pm and eating late or eating early and rushing to be finished in time for the show. This is the first time that we have questioned whether we will book another Celebrity cruise especially as we were impressed by many aspects of our Cunard Cruise last year admittedlly in a Queens Class Cabin although the entertainment was not as good. GOOD POINTS Food Service Shows Rooms Silent disco Average age for cruise was 65 yo ! NEED TO IMPROVE: EXPENSIVE drinks when not on package. Package encourages an unhealthy amount of drinking and too expensive for most people. Should be able to have a few drinks at a price equivalent to a nice bar price and $US11 for a reasonable glass of red wine is far too much!! Expensive wifi should be free or much cheaper. It doesn't cost them any extra to provide access to more customers. Expensive restaurants - this is why they were rarely used. Not enough live music options in bars - no piano singalongs. Bars on board didn't have a great atmosphere like other ships. Not enough seating on L14 and L3 lounges for shows - many people standing. There was plenty of room for more seating to be added. Having sailed on several Celebrity ships, this was previously my favourite cruise line. We chose to sail on the Silhouette this time, as we are totally fed up with the hassle at airports, so wanted a no-fly cruise, and the Silhouette is now the only Celebrity ship that sails from Southampton. However, after our experience on this ship, we definitely won't be choosing Celebrity for future cruises for two main reasons; firstly, we chose fixed dining and requested a table for two, as we prefer to chat between ourselves at dinner time. Unfortunately, the table we were allocated, was a table for two, but it was six inches from another 'table for two' on one side and a table for four, six inches on the other side, so effectively, we were at a table for eight! We complained to customer relations, but they chose to ignore our complaint, so we were stuck with the table for the duration of the cruise. My second concern is that Celebrity have abandoned the formal dining evenings in favour of 'Chic' evenings. Subsequently, on these evenings, whilst some guests made an effort and dressed reasonably, many of the guests simply dressed in whatever they liked, some of whom must have bought their clothes from army surplus shops and obviously didn't know the meaning of 'chic'! I have to say that ship is nice, the cabin was nice, the food was excellent, the service from all the staff in all departments, was excellent, but the management could learn a lot from their staff, as they clearly don't care whether you cruise with them again or not. So it's goodbye Celebrity from now on. Read Less

We went to Norway for a week with the Eclipse in May and had a good time, with great service and decent food, so we decided to go again to the Azores, Madeira and the Canaries for two weeks in September. The cabin steward Ovideo, was wonderful, but the balcony cabin needs an update....bathroom a bit grotty and the carpet too. The plumbing from the cabins above were so noisy that it sounded as if a chair was being scraped across a metal floor when the toilets were flushed, and that started from about 6.15 in the morning, it drove me mad. My main problem was the food. The Ocean View was fine, and we ate there most days for breakfast and lunch, eggs benedict in a self service....great. I ate Indian most days, and most of the English specialities were good. The pizza and pasta and Mexican was not to my taste, having had the best pizzas with Costa in the past. The Grande Cuvee restaurant was mediocre. The tables are very close together, the food was poor most of the time, apart from 2 or 3 really good dishes. I don't think it helps that we are retired restaurateurs, 35 years our own restaurant and my husband is a chef. The food was not nearly as good at the Eclipse. The waiting staff were wonderful, and no gripes on that front. The lobster on the last evening was not good and I sent it back and they gave me one that was ok, served with unpeeled boiled potatoes, two asparagus and a wedge of lemon. The entertainment was quite good, with daily quizzes and good shows. We have been back for 5 weeks and have not yet received anything from Celebrity to fill in about the cruise. The Wifi prices are outrageous, and the drinks packages are pretty pricey. One week after returning I reserved our next two 12 day cruises for next year.....but not with Celebrity. Read Less

Sailing from Southampton. Good selection of ports. Celebrity have been every good on previous cruises. Object to paying for shuttle buses and boat shuttles. Corsica was originally scheduled with no shuttle boat. Four of us went together having 2 adjacent rooms with balconies. Unfortunately all of us were very sick at some point during the cruise. Most unusual as 3 of us are very fit with only 1 being disabled. This ship partly chosen as lawn games could be included. First week lawns were being rested which should not have affected our choice to play bocce.Second week lawns were being used for sunbathing. Not appropriate I thought. Previous cruise on reflection this did not happen.Evening theatre entertainment not as good. 3 shows we walked out of which we've never done. Standard seemed to be either very good or poor. Sunbeds were sometimes reserved from first thing yet not used all day. Most selfish especially only requiring them for 2 hours maximum at a time. Embarkation and disembarkation excellent. We were very disappointed that our latest cruise on Silhouette did not come close to our expectations, especially as our travel agent had personally recommended Celebrity. Our previous cruise on their Eclipse vessel was a much more enjoyable event. I had recently suffered the loss of my mother, close to our holiday date, and was in need of a refreshing break to assist the grieving process. The problems started on the very first evening with a lack of staff in the Martini bar, both preparing drinks and serving customers. This got worse on the second day when I waited at the sports bar for over 5 minutes for a member of staff to appear, I left before anyone came to serve me. I had purchased the 'Premium' package, however on many occasions I was informed by the bar staff that the drink I requested was not available from that location, on some rare instances the bar staff went to fetch the required brand from the nearest point that the stock was available from, on others I was only offered what was available from that serving point. On receipt of many drinks the tonic supplied was flat making the drink very poor to the taste, later in the cruise the tonic became of a cheaper brand, then in the last few days no lime was available from the bars. Not my definition of a 'Premium' package at all, and possibly in breach of contract! I along with other passengers reported a trip hazard in the Sky Lounge which could have caused a fall, it took over 5 days for the rectification to be completed, far too long with the many elderly and poor mobility passengers on board. There were also some strange decisions regarding the scheduling of events during the trip, the very popular comedian Steve Womack had his second show put in the small show lounge, even when the main theatre was not being utilised. A great number of the passengers were not able to see this show due to the lack of space, many that attended were unable to find seats and had to stand for the entire performance. Towards the end of the cruise the quizzes which were very popular were relocated to the bottom foyer on deck 3, this was ridiculous due to the lack of seating available, with many guests having to stand if they wished to participate. The Sky Lounge was reserved for a poorly attended art auction, which could have been moved to a more suitable location rather than relocating the majority of passengers to the bottom of the atrium stairs. This happened on more that one occasion, to the annoyance of a great number of passengers. There were also issues with regard to the serving of alcohol to obviously inebriated guests, this happened on several occasions, both in the bars and casino area. We now come the the false description issued regarding the berthing in Ajaccio, in was published that the ship would berth in the docking area, however that was changed to a tender provision. Several passengers with poor mobility were unable to leave the ship, those that did should be given a rebate for the reduction in mooring fees levied on the ship. In other ports it was obvious that we were being berthed in the cheapest available spot, which caused long walks to be undertaken, or worse still expensive shuttle journeys arranged by Celebrity. The standards of customer service offered are now far below that of a perceived premium brand, that Celebrity aspires to be.Too many corners are being cut in order to achieve bottom line results, with total disregard for paying passengers, who have a choice where to spend their hard earned money. An example of this was the very miniscule canapes delivered to us as concierge level guests every afternoon, which must have been an embarrassment to the person preparing them. On a positive note our stateroom attendant Clifton was extremely efficient and polite, displaying a level of service sadly lacking from his employers. The standard of cuisine on the main restaurant was again very high, and the choice in the buffet upstairs was also very good. However there were too many areas that were not to the expected standard, and did not represent value for money, we have cruised many times in the past 20 years with a rival company, but moved to Celebrity at our agents suggestion. If we were alone in our disappointment it would not be as concerning, however during the two weeks we had conversations with many other passengers, most returning Celebrity travellers, without exception they all reported that standards had gone down and were not totally satisfied with their holiday. We will have to think long and hard before seriously considering another Celebrity cruise after the past two weeks on the Silhouette. Read Less

This was our first cruise and had been looking forward to it for such a long time. Overall we enjoyed it and ensured we had a good time. However, our experience was marred by poor service on a number of occasions along with indiscretions from two employees who were managers. Whilst the good old British class system is still alive and kicking, you don't expect it from the crew !!! The ship is beautiful and was a pleasure to be on. The food we found to be very good and we thought that Britannia Club dining was ideal for us. The drinks are very expensive in general, but the wines are extortionate. So how come P&O are more reasonable ? Our balcony room on deck 8 was bigger than we had expected and was very comfortable. However, the bathroom is small with a shower that was absolutely tiny. The water being either very hot or scalding no matter where the temperature control was set. Deck 8 is not ideal if you want a lie-in as the scraping of deck chairs from 06:30 becomes your early morning wake-up call. We also had to make do with the mini-bar contents being left on top of the cupboard, the entire two weeks as our cabin person didn't seem to want to move them anywhere else after "emptying" our fridge. Embarkation was efficient, although disembarkation was a complete shambles. Time in ports were limited. I suspect that they are just long enough for the official excursions from the cruise line. Could have done with longer to enjoy the local atmosphere better. Overall, like I said we did enjoy our holiday but it could have been so much better. It was the little things that let it down, mainly service and maintenance - shame. Read Less

As a solo traveler I had hoped that this cruise would be enjoyable, it wasn’t. A lot of the time I felt that the ship was too crowded and it could be difficult to enjoy everything it had to offer. For instance, the sun loungers. Plenty of them, but most draped with towels even though no one was using them. Obviously people would bag their lounger and keep it all day. The lido restaurant, often I had to eat later than I wanted to as there were no free tables. The staff were efficient at clearing the tables but the layout of the food areas was confusing. It would be better if the service area was more thoughtfully laid out. Lots of people seemed to be walking around looking for things. The cost of drinks on board was very high, not unlike London hotel prices. Fair enough, however, I was charged an exorbitant £25 for a large glass of Cloudy Bay wine in the restaurant! Plus all drinks carry an extra 15% service charge, and then they leave space for another gratuity. All this when you are also paying a “one off” service charge of $161 per person for the fortnight. We chose this cruise as it was visiting Oporto and Lisbon - well meant to have been. On the first sea day we were advised no Oporto due to technical failure which would be rectified in Lisbon. A late arrival in Vigo and evening departure From Lisbon to compensate! However with the speed we travelled on departure from Lisbon we are sure an earlier departure would have enabled a half day call at Oporto. Two sea days with little to do on board were rather tedious and we would not have booked a weeks cruise to have three sea days out of the 6 full days, Otherwise we were pleasantly pleased with the cabin HA Balcony on C deck with a 10ft deep balcony. We had travelled in January on the Celebrity Millenium and the cabin on there was dreadful by comparison. The food on board was of a high quality again unlike the Millenium, and the service from the restaurant staff and waiters on board was very good. Would I travel on the Ventura again? I very much doubt it. The ship has 3,500 pax capacity far too many people when endeavouring to disembark/embark by tender with 3 hours total spent queuing in Guernsey. I much prefer smaller ships such as a Queen Victoria and Oosterdam/Nieuw Amsterdam. Read Less

First, Southampton is fabulous for the easy of embarkation! Great job!!! So easy. We boarded early and it was about 8 GBP (pounds) fare from Southampton Central Station to the ship. Easy to get on and reacquaint ourselves with Indy. We had an inside cabin overlooking the Royal Promenade which saved us hundreds off the original balcony room that we had. Guest Relations was FANTASTIC! They teased us (and vice versa) with their Unicorn (the mascot who has her own crew badge) and our Petunia (a hippopotamus) and Eeyore (a donkey). Our waiter was the ultimate GREAT buddy every evening. Malachi and Mr. Thomas (the back waiter) were Fantastic. Now - -for the grim news. WHERE was our Captain?? Absent without leave??? We NEVER saw him except for the mandated appearance (Captain's Corner and photo night). Marc the Cruise Director???Toooooo busy to talk with us mortals! Almost EVERY RCI ship that we've been on has either the CD or Captain visit the lounges, walk the ship or just say "hi" but NOT these two! The entertainment was quite good. The Ice Shows were utterly fantastic and scared many of us old cruisers. Wonderful Talent and we THANK THEM for sharing their talent with us. The stand up comedian was hilarious. The rest - - we've seen. We have been to most of the ports before and had our own tour of Fatima with a private vendor. ONE OF THE BEST TOURS OF OUR LIFE! Many of the crew on the ship were "just going through the motions". There was very little spontaneity. While on this cruise we asked ourselves "after almost 300 nights with RCI, is THIS the best that they can provide??" Just so-so, check the box, and say that the job is done. I've seen other reviews, many from early cruisers, and I am VERY glad to see that they loved the ship, but for experienced cruisers - - - "Eh?". Read Less

Ticked all the boxes including free drinks package when booking. Not enough daytime lectures/talks (Lady who delivered talks on pop stars had a poor delivery style). There were a number of quizzes but the venues got so full that it was very difficult to find seats. Great service by restaurant and bar staff who, for me, went out of their way to be pleasant and helpful. Some good entertainment - ?ice Skating and cast shows (Grease for example) were excellent, but too many comedians? It needed more variety. Health and fitness talks were merely a 'front' for hooking you in to buy their products. Once you are aware of this then you can deal with it - but it can be a hard sell and when you reject their first attempt, they try keep going with alternatives. Beware! 4,000 passengers seemed to mean that it was always full in all the public areas. Overall, good weather in Med in autumn and a reasonable experience made it worthwhile. Read Less

We have cruised with Royal Caribbean before and found them to be of good quality and good value. Not this time. Prices have gone up and standards have gone down dramatically. The main restaurant where food has always been good now resembles school dinners with such delicacies as mince and onions making an unwelcome appearance. I ordered scallops au gratin. The scallop had been diced into tiny cubes and served in an escargot dish, I suspect so that you had a chance of finding the minuscule pieces in the dimples designed for snails. I ordered spiced prawns, it arrived, there were two prawns and one half of a lobster tail. This was supposed to be a main course it would have been inadequate as an appetiser. Whilst I appreciate that not everyone likes formal dining there were however people arriving for dinner dressed in shorts, vests and football shirts. This was not challenged by staff. The unlimited drinks package is not all it seems, I’ve never seen so many drunk people, on going for breakfast at 9.00 am one morning we had to report vomit in the lift it had clearly been there for some time. Excursions have always been pricey however we opted for the Florence by train trip priced at $63. We were advised we would be in a private carriage with charging points etc. We were on the public train from Livorno, no private carriage. The only reason we got seats was that we were first on. By the first stop we were inundated with people and luggage in our ‘private’ carriage. This would have cost about €10 had we booked ourselves. It was a complete rip off. Cabin staff and dining room staff are without exception superb, sadly the same can’t be said for those working in guest services and future cruises. We found them to be both rude and dismissive. when we were charged twice for an excursion and questioned it the person who dealt with us was woeful. He waved us away from his desk when the questions became too difficult. The ship itself is shabby, I understand that the refit deals only with public areas and not staterooms. Simple things like missing curtain hooks meaning that curtains don’t close properly. This type of issue could be rectified at minimal cost. She needs a bit of TLC. I appreciate this review is largely negative but when paying top price for something and receiving mediocre in return it leaves a bad taste. We will not be using Roya Caribbean again. Read Less
