It's definitely not the cream of the crop - it barely rises to the top! - Neither worth the money nor the experience.

Celebrating a 25-year wedding anniversary of friends. Check-in was slow and tedious. Personnel unable to properly read vaccination certificates (due to dates in UK and USA being written differently!). Debarkation was an absolut disaster. They blamed it on the US Authorities. Not sure it's to be believed. The dress code, although highly-touted, was neither applied nor enforced. Don't bother ...

Didn’t live up to the hype

First of all, I am a very experienced cruiser including very high end like Regent and more moderate lines like Celebrity. I was very excited to sail on Cunard as I had heard so much praise and accolades for the white star service, the food and the elegance of the ship. So my perspective is comparing to what I know of other lines. First of all, the good. Hands down, the cocktails are the ...

This is my first cruise on QM2 after having lost my dear brother and sister in law within 5 days last year. Started off very well, poor tour in St Thomas but we did get a partial credit. Kings Court Is always very busy struggle to avoid other people when carrying food though the waiters do sometimes assist me if they see me struggling. Our steward was fantastic until he disappeared but was ...

Having been on the Queen Mary 2 a few times before we knew what to expect, excellent food, beautiful cabins, and wonderful crew. What a disappointment: the ship looked tired, there were stains on the carpets in our cabin, the shower nearly scolded me, bits of silicon was missing around the shower tray and taps around the sink, the food was so average KFC would have put them to shame, the ...

Not as luxurious as one is led to believe

The ship has become tired looking, in particular on the outside. The first impression is rusty and a tad shabby. It can now longer be described as luxurious (there are too many truly luxurious ships out there now). The passenger population consisted of a primarily older age group, with many of 70 years plus. A huge number were immobile, infirm and with conditions that led to emergency ...

Complacent. Relying on the Cunard name.

We selected this cruise to celebrate my 60th birthday and our 40th Wedding Anniversary, so it was very special and important to us. The embarkation at Southampton, despite the queues, was very well organised and slick. Our stateroom was not to the standard we had been accustomed to aboard other cruise ships. The room was very small and the bathroom tiny. A refurb is very much needed. The ...

Old and tired

Personally I have never been interested in going on a cruise but it was the choice of in laws and I ended up being dragged along. After initially booking Britannia we ended up taking advantage of a cheap upgrade offer to Queens Grill. It didn't start well at Embarkation when there was a scrum of people surrounding the doors into the hall in Southampton and no indication of where the priority ...

I had been on QM2 before in 2004 for her maiden Caribbean trip, 18 years ago and remember the experience as exciting (especially sail-away with a band playing us away on the quayside and free bubbly!), delightful and sophisticated. Maybe it's because I am older now and have become more demanding as regards to the finer things of a civilised existence that I found the recent crossing to New York ...

Queen Mary 2: Fool Britannia

To judge from the adverts, Queen Mary 2 is a veddy, veddy British ship, right? The answer is, sort of, but not always in that good way. She is a Cunard ship, something you are never allowed to forget, given that every deck is plastered with “historic” Cunard posters and displays. But in fact, “Carnival Corporation & plc,” the Miami-based company that owns many of the major cruise ships today, also ...
