Queen Mary 2 underwhelming
"The theater seats were quite uncomfortable and no drinks were allowed. There are no USB ports in the rooms, there was no electrical outlet in the bathroom and our balcony had substantial rust visible and the door rattled quite loudly during high winds...."Read More

The Old Lady isn't what she used to be

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Queen Mary 2 (QM2)

First Time Cruiser • Age 70s

We've cruised about 25 times and this was I believe the 5th trip on the QM2 - one of the worst experiences we've had. The ship felt cheap. Meals in the dining room were well prepared, but were extremely small portions. There used to be (pre-covid) standard options (steak, salmon, chicken) daily if you didn't like the featured items, but no longer. The theater entertainment felt more amateurish ...

Poor food selection and taste

We don't fly so the QM2 is our way to return from Europe. This is the first time we have sailed with Cunard and I was very disappointed. First, the good parts, our cabin was very nice. We choose an inside cabin to try and settle our seasickness. We have a balcony cabin with NCL on the way over. The ship was clean and tidy. The bad, food selection was not good. The same kinds of food ...

Carnival is trading on Cunard's reputation

I have always wanted to cross the USA by train, and since Covid, I have lost any appetite I had for flying. The QM2 gave me the opportunity to sail to the US, travel across the US by train both ways, stay a few nights on the West Coast, and pick up the QM2 from New York back to the UK. The time gap between the outward voyage on 13th November and the homeward voyage on the 3rd December - 12 ...

Not as good as expected...

Interesting to read other recent reviews - our experiences were very similar. It wasn't a bad cruise and there were highlights - we enjoyed our cabin and the housekeeper was generally good - but otherwise we left thinking that we wouldn't rush back to Cunard. Service was our biggest gripe- Britannia restaurant was very hit and miss - one head waiter actually told me off loudly for sitting at a ...

We took the Queen Mary 2 from Southampton to New York the week of June 24 to experience an expected up-scale trip from our usual cruise line. I’m sorry to say we were somewhat disappointed overall. First off, the computer network including the free wifi used to check accounts and book reservations only worked sporadically and for very short periods of time. Even when we went to the purser’s desk ...

QM2 old but still elegant

Just back from a 2 way transatlantic voyage on QM2. We had been upgraded from deck 5 with a sheltered balcony to deck 11 with a full balcony, which was nice, but unfortunately with inclement weather we got little use. The weather on the way to New York was fine but cold and very windy and on the return was stormy for most of the way till our last day sailing. I enjoyed our cruise, however it ...

QM2 needs urgent TLC and cabin refurbishment

I wanted to do a westbound roundtrip transatlantic crossing which was on my bucket list. I come from the city where the original QM was built. I booked a Balcony cabin, sorry stateroom, (obstructed Deck 8) but was given an upgrade to a sheltered balcony on Deck 4. It may be an upgrade for Cunard but it felt like a downgrade to me. Whilst clean and bed very comfortable it was dreary and dull. ...

The checkin before boarding was efficient and fast. Stateroom cat. BF with balcony at the 11th deck was very confortable and large enough altough the bathroom was so small but functional. Britannia restaurant was great but meal was not so special: i never see foie gras or escargots! King's court buffet was great altough entries was always the same all the week long. Some waiters was ...

Disappointed in QM2

To sail Cunard was always my dream and after 12 cruises on other lines we decided to book for our 40th Anniversary. There were 6 in our party, ages 63 to 81 years in inside and balcony cabins. The ship was beautiful. The cabins well equipped and our cabin stewards could not have been better. The lecture series was very interesting and informative. But we were very disappointed in the food served ...

We (2 couples) chose this cruise to return from a European vacation rather than fly back to the US. We knew the cruise would be very formal but as one English passenger said when I queried him about his experience on the 2nd day of the cruise, "They are quite serious". LIkes: We booked the Brittania Club, therefore we had our own private dining table for four each night with the same servers. ...
