Value for money cruise, great service, friendly and helpful staff. Plush cabins with pleasant décor. The ship is stunning, spotless, with a great variety of venues to relax and enjoy. Dining is good, although we do miss the ability to eat when we want with fixed time dining still being the norm and having to share a table is not what we prefer these days. However, MSC did an excellent job of matching us with our tablemates. There could be a wider range of alternative dining venues, as the Sante Fe Tex Mex, although good, is the only real alternative to the MDR. The buffet is a good size, but as with all lines can get busy and so getting a seat can be a challenge. The variety is good and so you won't starve. The opening times are also longer than I have experienced on many other lines. Photo costs are more reasonable than other lines, as are the beverage prices, gratuity is more reasonable as is the daily service fee at €9 pppd. The layout of the ship is really good and so passenger flow is excellent, only access to the Villa Verde restaurant on deck 6 can be confusing at first. Internet access is basic, but far more affordable than other lines. Although you can 'upgrade' to faster service (faster by giving your access higher priority). Entertainment is adequate with the team encouraging people to join in on many occasions, but not forcing you. Plenty of events during the cruise from a 70's 80's evening to a White Party, Gala evenings are still observed with many in formal attire and the photographers are fantastic with the results! Excellent & Faultless!! We booked this cruise with a group of friends [agegroup 25 - 70 English] because it included the drinks package. One couple had only cruised with NCL and we wanted them to experience different standards. My brother is Black membership level we are Gold so knew what to expect. We made our own travel arrangements via our personal travel agent, my brother, cruise specialist of North America Travel Services, for transportation to Southampton and return flight British Airways to LGW airport. Then booked a 9 seater Eurpoacar vehicle to transfer LGW to LBA. Embarkation was unbelievably smooth and were able to acces our cabins imediately. But, we did find it strange to have to open our cabin & fumble in the dark for our key card to activate the lighting system! Then we had 24hrs to register a credit card to the account [usually done landside at check in.]-- this needs addressing by MSC as not the best sustem BUT our only complaint on the whole cruise.Faultless! I must mention that we have cruised on Luxury cruise ships, to mid market, to freestyle - American, English & Italian. The ship is Prestine - the hygiene policy is amazing! The Inside cabin was the largest we have ever experienced. The staff were happy, with the ability to open a conversation and confiem we were having a good time. Our steward was incedibly attentive as if we had our own personal butler! asked for extra hangers -immediately a dozen New hanger were delivered - not damaged tatty hangers left by past cruisers! We have enjoyed MSC precviously but the food has never been above average - this time far, far improved.- Tip think Italian in choice and even timing - lunches fantastic. We had read the buffet at breakfast was chaotic so decided to eat less and enjoy a wake up call & breakfast in our cabin. super arrangement, always on time & coffee very good. The wake up stretch and zumba and dance classes excellent and fun! The facilities and bars were so good we only managed to make 3 shows but very good, taking into account the constraints of language. we didn't use any MSC excursions but made our own plans. However the limitations of the restricted port visits MSC are know for did not restrict our plans or sightseeeing. i.e. In Barcelona we disembarked at 8am for a leisurley stroll on La Ramblas experiencing it coming to life! I reiterate the staff were happy and enjoying their jobs. This is the essence of the passengers having a great cruise! Thank You MSC we will be back to enjoy yet another fantastic cruise! Maybe possibley organise the disembarkation better - I had to find a little fault! Read Less

I love this ship and i love MSC, I think people lose sight of the value for money you get with an MSC cruise. We have just done a one week northern europe cruise for £450 each including the Allegrisimo drinks package. The ship is beautiful, the staff were lovely on the whole, the food is very acceptable and way better than the majority of all inclusive hotels. The only downside for me is the entertainment which is dire at best, but im happy with a good book. I do think the theatre is a wasted space. It hosts 2 sessions of a 30 minute 'show' (dont waste your time on it, thats 30 minutes of your life wasted you wont get back) each evening and nothing else. Sack the show company and put on some decent films instead. The Allegrisimo drinks package is great value and well worth paying for. There may well be better cruise experiences out there for a higher cost, but for the money MSC are hard to beat. Read Less

Wished to visit the northern european destinations. At the time of boarding, the crew mistook us for yatch-club members and took us to a wrong cabin. Then, we were told that we have to buy the water bottles for drinking at the time of dinner. Later we came to know that water was included in our ticket. There was some code on our key card which said so. But not all dining/eating places on the ship would honor that. Even the wine-package that we purchased would not serve us wine at the dinning table. We had to get our wine-glasses from the bar outside the dining hall at the time of dinner. At breakfast and snack time, no drinks were brought to our table. No artfully folded towels, or chocolates in the state room at the end of the day. Basic minimum services we have seen in other cruise lines were not offered in MSC. Never to cruise MSC again. MSC Splendida was a beautiful ship. It had the largest and nicest stateroom we have ever stayed in, and this was, I think, my sixteenth cruise. The biggest problem was with excursions. We arrived on ship and attempted to book excursions on Interactive TV. It NEVER worked the entire trip. I met with one employee at the excursion desk and he was rude, disinterested, and not helpful. I felt like he thought we were all just a bother. (I remember his name, but have not provided it just in case he was having a bad day). I also attempted 3 excursions in Belgium, and was told I could not go on these particular excursions because they had no English speaking guides left. I should have said "I do not care, I still want to take the canal cruise." Instead, I was offered a transfer to a town, where there was a beach. Paid for the transfer, but was not happy at the beach. I really wanted to participate in one of the excursions. I would have booked them online, but thought I would get more information when I was on the ship. Did not happen. If ITV worked, I could have possibly booked one of the excursions in Belgium that I wanted. Now I feel like that was just a wasted port for us. And we cannot get it back. We paid for the internet package, which was a waste. It did not work very well. My wife talked to the guest relations people, twice, about it. I told her I wanted to cancel it, but she chose not to. Service was slow in the dining room. One day, my wife was the only person eating the main course for about half an hour. One of the women at the table next to us complained about the service. I thought it was sad that we could not ask for water at dinner without being charged for it. So we brought our own water to the table. When there were specialty items which were not on the menu, our waiter never mentioned them. I picked up the cards which were in front of my wife and I, and asked, "can we order this?" These cards announced the steak, lobster, or the tastes of the ports we visited. The folks on the other side of the table were not aware of these items until I showed them. And the food was not very good. Everyone at our table complained about this particular cruise, primarily about the food (or how unfriendly a lot of the guests were). We talked to folks who said they were going back to Carnival, Princess, and Royal Caribbean. After we disembarked, a woman my wife had befriended was crying about being treated poorly during the entire trip. The buffet room did not flow. It was just a giant free for all. The arrangement was chaotic. I decided the only meal we would eat there was lunch. The food was not very good here either. A number of us talked about how this was the first cruise we were going to lose weight on. Also, no employee took control of disembarking at the ports. We had several lines, instead of one. And guests who came up the stairs just jumped in front of the converging lines. If an employee was present to assist, it would have been very helpful. Employees on these ships work very hard. But with this cruise I am thinking that one of the problems with service, now, is that cruise lines take tips (service charges) up front. So some employees feel like they do not have to work hard. They know they are getting tipped any way. I would have adjusted my tips down, if I could have. But I don't want everyone to suffer for some of the problems on the ship. I am a Federal Law Enforcement Officer, 49 years old. Followup: Tried to complete after cruise comment form online, but had problem with the system. So I called MSC and the tech told me to use the comment section on their website. The website keeps telling me that my email address is being used by someone else. That would be me. Read Less

We did this cruise mainly for the price and the convenience of departing from Zeebrugge. We cruised with our son (aged 2,5) and this was his second cruise. Let me start by saying that we had a very good week and really enjoyed ourselves. The criticism below are actually details on the cruise. We will sail MSC again if the price is right. Here are our findings: Embarkation at Zeebrugge: Very unprofessional. Only 86 people embarked. Even though we handed over our lugage at 11.30, it only arrived in our cabin at 19.00. The muster drill was held during the first seating, so we could not attend it. This evening was also one of the gala evenings. Since we didn't have out luggage, we could not partake in this. Instead we had to go to the buffet wearing the same clothes we embarked in. CABIN: Cabin state: Looked OK, but looked older than it actually was. The carpetting on the floor was really thin and you could feel the metal floor. The beds were quite good though. Cabin stewart: Not consistent. He had good days, but mostly bad days. He actually removed the sign "make up room" from our cabin. DINING: Main dining room: Felt small and tables were very close to eachother. The food was OK (daily avaliable pasta however was very good). The waiter was very busy so we didn't get a chance to talk to him. They did have a daily changing kids menu, which is a plus. Buffet: Pasta and Pizza were excellent and by far the best I've had on a cruise ship. I don't understand however why they close half of the buffet during the evening. The pasta station wasn't even open during dinner. Service: Our finished plates often remained on our table until we addressed one of the waiters to clean them up. It seemed to us that they were not motivated (instead of uncapable) to do their job. ENTERTAINMENT: Shows: Mostly the same shows but with different music and costumes. They did have some nice acrobatic acts, but these repeated in almost every show. Cruise director: A middle aged Italian man who considered himself funny by doing a certain pose after each speech (accompanied with saying: "PING"). After a while this can get annoying. Activities: Very few things to do. A sea day had less activities than other cruise lines have on a port day. Some of the entertainment staff was very good however and the made up for it. Bars: Service can be slow. And I really can't understand the decision to suspend bar service until 17.00. KIDS: Baby care service is offered for free for kids under 3 years old. This for 2 or 3 hours per day. The location seemed nice. We cannot give feedback on the actual service as we didn't make use of the service POOLS: The covered pool was nice. We had some good times with our son. An advantage is that they do not use chlorine in the pools, but use seawater instead. They drained the pool each evening. Read Less

Chose this cruise based on value for money, we are experienced cruisers and have been with several other cruise lines. This ship is beautiful but the food quality and service lets it down. Embarkation was not bad really, and our cabin was ready, that's a first for us on any boat. Our luggage arrived almost immediately, again very good, we have normally waited hours on other boats. Our balcony cabin was very nice and the best bathroom I have experienced, even had a bath. Muster stations is tedious as you have to listen to many other languages. The itinery is like a bus route with passengers embarking and disembarking at every port. The first disappointment is the quality and presentation of the food, compared to other cruise lines it is poor and has a predominately Italian theme, hope you like tomato sauce with everything. The buffet features spaghetti and pizza daily. As a non meat eater my choice was severely limited especially in the dining room. Usually on cruises the food is a wow factor with lovely presentation, I'm afraid this comes nowhere near, more like school dinners. The other let down is the attitude of some of the staff, not all of course, but there are definitely some surly faces among the waiting staff and an almost lazy attitude of some of the bar staff around the pool who seemed to prefer to keep you waiting rather than serve you. Another noticeable feature seemed to be the lack of hand hygiene around the ship, although there were alcohol hand wash dispensers, most passengers ignored them and no effort was made to ensure the use of them. There were many passengers with coughs and colds on board and good hand hygiene could have avoided the spread of germs. We did two trips, one to the windmills and canals of Amsterdam was great and very good value, the other to Honfleur was well overpriced for just a ride to the town, having said that Honfleur is beautiful. Entertainment in all fairness must be difficult with all the different languages to cater for so that was limited and we were not tempted to go to the theatre. There were dress codes and theme nights, some effort was made on gala night to dress appropriately but most passengers wore casual/smart outfits. Overall we enjoyed the trip but would pay more for better food and service next year Read Less

we would not recommend the food or service. the ship was covered in ramps, which made it impossible for my wheelchair to get over. the dining was terrible, if you has salad it was ok, if you had a hot dinner it was cold. my cabin was not wheelchair friendly and the banging was terrible. we only went to the casino and we did find some excellant staff. the port and shore excursions was for able bodies person, not wheelchair bound. disembarkation what a farce, the time was no good, if they went good for them, if wheelchair guests were told to meet on la prua but we needed see anybody, we went alone but had to queue with disembarkation and staying on the ship people. we did not travel with children, good good really. I recommend anybody wishing to do these trips find another company. it was nice a get home Read Less

The travel Agency Arch Vacations chose this Cruise and ship. The cruise was to Ireland/Scotland/Germany. It had primarily Germans and Italians and only about 100 English speaking passengers. The travel agency should never book for English speaking persons. It catered to the Germans. The food was not very good and the entertainment and activities were lacking in every way. I would never go on this cruise or recommend it to anyone. It stopped at fewer ports than the Princess would have. I have been on two previous cruises and bragged about how wonderful they were and was so disappointed in this one. To say something good, the waiters and cabin help were very nice and helpful. The room was bigger than I have had on previous ships. Shore excursions varied from good to poor. A couple of them had no one on the bus to give you the history or what you were going to see. They had to speak in many languages and the English was so short you could miss what was said. Wasted my money. Read Less
