This was our second cruise with Royal Caribbean and when we decided to book, we opted to go on the Anthem of the Seas as it was such a new boat and the deal we got was amazing. Embarkation went so smoothly and is the reason I prefer to cruise from the UK rather than have the stress of the airport. The ship was fantastic, it ticked all the boxes and more. However the only disappointment for me, there didn't seem to be a lot of bars and there wasn't enough outside space. We actually preferred the set up in the Adventure of the Seas (this being the only other RC ship we have been on). The service was fantastic especially Erdi and Daniel in the Schooner Bar. Our holiday was made excellent by the staff. We only did a couple of the shore excursions, one in Rome where the only disappointment was our tour guide liked to walk fast, not that easy in 40 degrees especially when there are elderly people. Went up the Rock in Gibraltar and saw the Aquarium in Lisbon. The dining on board was excellent, whilst the Windjammer was very repetitive, the food was an acceptable standard. We dined in Chic and American Icon Grill and was very impressed with the food, we made the most of it as it was complimentary, often having 2 of everything (always good to try something you have never had before) and once again the staff were fantastic. My one advice is to pre book the restaurants before you get onto the ship. We didn't and found it impossible to book some of the restaurants. We only did Chops Grille (extra payment) and whilst the food was excellent especially my Fillet Steak the staff weren't as good as in the complimentary restaurant. The surf rider was excellent as was the North Star but be warned that you will be weighed if you are on the larger side. We will Rock You was fantastic and would have loved to see it again but again it required to be booked so again pre-book before you board. The entertainment overall was excellent though I did wonder what the Gift was about. We opted to carry our suitcases off ourselves at disembarkation, as last year was so messy, definitely the best choice. Off the ship and in the car within 15 mins. Overall our holiday was excellent and we didn't want to come home but the one issue I have is the reserving of sunbeds. I'm an early riser and found beds reserved with towels and personal effects with no-one there from 6.30am every morning. If you are going to reserve them then sit there!!! Most of the time we were never able to get outside on a sunbed. This unfortunately happens everywhere so not unique for RC. We will most definitely be booking again with Royal Caribbean it's just having to decide where to go. Read Less

From the moment me and my husband got on the ship we were very excited, it was a 31st Anniversary surprise, that turned out to be a nightmare,I am so disappointed and disgusted We have travelled on RC for many years and never experienced anything like it. are first meal we had in silks was just un believable,(before i came on the cruise I bought a soda and non alcohol cocktail package)could not get a non alcohol cocktail nor could i get a fresh or carton orange juice, but i was offered a fizzy kids orange juice not to mention the bar waitress was offish with me for asking for a non alcohol menu, then we witness the waiter getting told off by the head waitress, followed by food on the floor waitress and waiters walking around them only to see the waiter kick the food under the counter, not very hygienic in the least.Dirty toilets with toilet tissue and urine on the toilet floors not to mention the over flowing wet hand tissues from the bin to the floor and work tops this is a laugh when they tell us to wash and sanitise they can't even keep there toilets clean lack of staff i had a piece of cling film in my soup also my bowl of soup was spilt all down the sides and served to me in Chic restaurant in American Icon the waitress brought my soup and calamari out at the same time which resulted calamari being very cold and me asking it to be changed only to get a cracked bowl with my sauce in imagine the germs that could of made me ill.I never ate it nor did i stay to have my main course it put me off completely, there were dirty towels on all the sun beds yet no staff around to pick them up and tidy the beds so people never knew if the chairs were available to sit on, under most of the sun beds their were dirty bottles and glasses cluttering up. Glasses left all over the ship and in the lift area not pleasing to the customers eyes rude bar waiter ignoring to serve me because he wanted to fill up the ice machine, when he did serve me he didn't take my card for 20 mins and left me standing for another 15 mins whilst he filled up again meanwhile the ice was melting so i asked the other bar tender to take my card and he alerted the man who served me who told me to wait again for 5 mins then he snatched the card from me as to say its my fault he's had to stop what he was doing , Cafe promenad only had 1 girl serving so no one was tidying cups and plates off the tables no clean tables to be found we had to clean it ourself also the coffee and tea area was dirty all the time so was the pizza restaurant next door . I filled a cup with coffee not realising there was a dirty teabag in the cup only when i stirred it I realised. The wind jammer behind the stack of plates the counter had dust on and not to mention the sink facilities are a good idea if someone cleans down the sinks they were in a bit of state. The grand restaurant is meant to be formal, but the staff were letting people in with jeans and hoodies and football shirt in,so annoying because i wore my evening gown and my husband was in his dinner suit like others then their was other people in very casual clothing on, surly the rule is the same for everyone , it was very annoying!!! Never saw entertainment because of the time of my dining at 8 pm kept missing it and there was not another show on like on other ships the show is on for the later diners on the good side my cabin was nice and clean by Glenda who was very pleasant every day and night lovely lady with a lovely smile ,Also my meal in wonderland was nice and Izumi was nice Ask if I would recommend this ship ? No I Would not. Read Less

We had a wonderful cruise on Oceana and enjoyed our time on the ship and the different ports of call: Lisbon Cadiz Gibralta Barcelona Cannes Livorno Genoa, back to Livorno Naples Dubrovnic and overnight in Venice. Cabin good, food good, entertainment good. Weather was perfect apart from showers in the afternoon in Naples. Sail in to Venice with a very good commentary was wonderful. Our only complaint and it was a big one: Lack of communication regarding transfer back to Southampton from Gatwick. We booked online following an email about the cruise and checked to see how we would get back to Southampton from Gatwick. No problem, there would be a coach transfer. No there wasn't! We only found out by talking to someone at dinner (freedom dinning is great) We asked at reception about a coach and were passed to future cruise desk. The lady didn't know but said she would look into it and to come back next day. When we returned the next day we were told by a very smug man Lee Mudkins that there wasn't a coach and that their contract with us ended at Gatwick, end of story, however he knew straight away the cost of a taxi £150. No help, advice, assistance given whatsoever. We were not the only ones in this position and one poor lady only found out as we disembarded. Poor show P & O. Lesson learned....phone and check everything! We eventually got back to Southampton at just gone 11pm and I cannot praise the parking people at "Meet and Greet" enough. After we phoned them to say we would be arriving at Southampton Central Station at gone 11pm the lady said not to worry they would bring the car to us at the station. They saved us a taxi trip to the port. Well done Meet and Greet. To rub salt into the wounds...people had phone calls or emails to say that they could leave their cars at Gatwick and a shuttle would be there to take them to Southampton. We didn't get a phone call or email. It would have been much easier for us to park at Gatwick which is 2 hours drive from us and we had to pass it on our way to Southampton. As it was a four hour drive to get home and it was so late getting to Southampton we spent the night in a Hotel and drove home next day. Read Less
