Very nice winter break
"The main dining room Seven seas was very good. The ports in the Canary Islands are not very interesting and not as developed as, for example, ports in the Caribbean, but we found a good ship excursion in each of them...."Read More

Garden cafe areas very crowded. Quality of food is poor in specialty restaurants

Itinerary was excellent. Lisbon to Miami 19 days. Excellent ports of call full of history and geography and culture. All of the staff on board SUN is wonderful. Assistant Cruise Director Carlisa is very friendly and welcoming. During the renovations NCL added extra specialty restaurants which are not up to NCL standard. Moderno restaurant has very poor table service. Salad selection is ...

Sun’s Transatlantic crossing in April 2023 was advertised online so we booked and paying our deposit in our NCL online account. This is where the first problems started, we seemed to be charged additional fee when ever we booked on specialities dinners (part of the original cruise package) or add and pay for shore excisions. At lease three times we had to call the Florida office to get these ...

Nice itinerary, some niggles with service

The itinerary appealed…Lisbon,Madeira, Canaries, Gibraltar, Malaga and Cadiz. The Sun didn’t seem to cope as well with the Atlantic swell as other ships we’ve been on. Food generally excellent, los lobos was disappointing. Restaurants mostly quieter than on other cruises, I do wonder if it’s because of the “à la carte” pricing adopted by NCL which has dramatically pushed up the cost. ...

Nice itinerary, shame about the ship

Generally good itinerary, with particular highlights being Madeira, Lanzarote, Malaga and Cadiz. Could do with longer at Cadiz, and prepare yourself for choppy weather on the 1st sea day. However, what brings the score down is the ship itself. The Sun is one of the smaller vessels, and often you have to navigate through other public area to get to your destination, the spa is particularly ...

The little things that make for a great cruise were mising

Sailed on the ncl sun from lisbon to the canary islands and while the cruise was ok it was far from great. time after time we saw little things that showed a lack of attention to detail. there were many examples. the cabin stewards filled the halls with cleaning equipment early each morning and it stayed there unused until late in the day. there were no washcloths. there was no towel animal! ...

Very nice winter break

Mainly because my Asian cruise was canceled and a mess in aviation I chose this cruise to a warm destination and closer to home. The N. Sun was the smallest ship I ever traveled on. There was not much on board and the singers and dancers were below any expectations. Also most of the shops, bars and entertainment staff were not as brilliant as I had on other ships. Despite the recent ...

Just OK - could do better

Review for a Europe - All Cruise on Norwegian Sun

My partner and I chose this cruise to escape UK weather and in that respect it was a success. The weather was pleasant and warm for the 10 day cruise. I suspect if the weather had not been so pleasant my view of the cruise itself would be less forgiving. Positives: We were on the ship within 10 minutes of arriving at the terminal in Lisbon and our luggage was delivered within 1 hour. ...

Picked the cruise for the great itinerary 9 ports in 11 days Spain, Portugal & Canary Islands in the Winter. The guests embarking in a few locations was new think that worked. Old school life boat drill not sure why we are revisiting that. Stood on deck for a 1/2 hour and got shushed a few times before the drill started. Entertainment 3 shows well done great singers and dancers. ...

Floating Nursing Home

Between the two of us, my husband and I have been on 8 cruises, with various lines (Carnival, MSC, Norwegian, Princess and Royal Caribbean), so we generally know what to expect on a cruise. What we didn't anticipate when we booked an early December (2022) ten day Cruise on NCL from Lisbon Portugal to the Canary Islands, Gibraltar, Spain and back to Lisbon was to be on a floating nursing home. The ...

Canary Islands in November

Review for a Canary Islands Cruise on Norwegian Sun

The Norwegian Sun is a lovely fairly small ship with a maximum capacity of 1,936 passengers but it seemed really spacious as it was just 80% full. It was built in 2001 but refitted in 2018, so looked like new (after a 2 year pause for COVID). Embarkation in Lisbon was very easy and the 8 day cruise finished at Málaga having visited Madeira and various Canary Islands. In November 2022, ...
