Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Silver Moon

After several cruises with Crystal and Seabourn, my spouse and I decided to try Silversea. We were excited about their new Silver Moon ship, but we quickly realized that marketing promises did not match reality. The embarkation process was tedious and confusing. After all the time spent to enter personal data and travel documents online (before the cruise), we found out that we had to start ...

Silver Moon - disappointment

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Silver Moon

We were looking for a luxurious experience. We got a standard cruise with a few fripperies thrown in. The ship was lovely, though a little corporate. We were too late booking the speciality restaurants so had to rely on Atlantide and Salt, both of which tried hard but were lacking in the taste and quality of the food provided. Breakfast were a bit of a melee, ie the buffet area is not big enough ...

A miserable Oceania Marina cruise

Review for a Mediterranean Cruise on Marina

This was my 4th time cruising with Oceania, the 3rd one on Marina. It's a shame this cruise line deteriorated so far, it used to be my favorite. No complaints about the ship itself, it is beautiful, comfortable and not too large. However, since the last time I have been on it (2019, just before the pandemic hit) it went downhill all the way. The food is not the same, for example, the Polo ...

After the Covid drought, we decided to undertake two cruises virtually back to back to ease ourselves back into the wonderful world of cruising. The two cruises we chose were – one a 10 night sailing on Oceania’s Marina and the second a 14 night cruise on one of Celebrity’s newer ships, the Apex. Both very different offerings. This Review will focus on our experience on the Marina, our first ...

My wife and I have been cruising more than 25 times. We decided to try Oceania after hearing / reading about its fabulous food quality, ship service, itineraries, etc. This past May, with 14 other friends, all first time cruiser with Oceania, we decided to give Marina a try. The months prior to the cruise date, we constantly receive nice printed materials from the cruise company, many of which ...

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on L'Austral

John and I were delighted to discover this one-off food- and wine-centric itinerary on the L’Austral. We enjoy the French ambiance, excellent food, and great wine onboard Ponant’s ships. This cruise promised more of the same by including a Michelin-starred guest chef, guest experts on wine and cheese, and special wine and gastronomic events. The Ponant Corporate Chef was also onboard this ...

Vale SilverSea: never again

We are 4 times cruisers with SilverSea and have cruised with other lines. After all the lockdowns and travel restrictions over the last years, we were very much looking forward to our 5th cruise on the Silver Wind. Sadly, this will be our last cruise with SilverSea. It is difficult to know where to start. If you want to read on, grab a tea or coffee before you start: - Embarkation – the process ...

Well below expectations

This was a Smithsonian Journey and on a previous cruise we met a lovely couple and we became good friends. They had booked this trip and asked if we would consider doing so and enjoy a holiday together. Sadly this trip did not compare in any way with our previous experience while cruising with Ponant. The only special part was meeting our friends. Our cabin left a lot to be desired, ...

Uniworld Queen Isabel disappoints

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Queen Isabel

10+ Cruises • Age 70s

I have sailed with Uniworld twice before and with Viking a few times. I chose this sailing because of the beauty of Portugal and the friendliness of its people. Although the scenery was lovely, people do need to understand that the regulations on the Douro only allow for sailing during daylight hours. This means very limited time in port and a lot of time on the ship. Also, except for Porto, ...

Some pleasant times, some disappointments

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Silver Whisper

We have sailed with Silversea three times now. This time, we joined Silver Whisper in Lisbon and headed north. Our cabin was comfortable and well positioned. Generally, the food was good, though we found La Dame unexciting. The wait staff, bar staff, butlers and stateroom staff were lovely and helpful. The talks were interesting, the entertainment varied and a little patchy. Loved the jazz group. ...
