Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Le Champlain

This was a Smithsonian Journey and on a previous cruise we met a lovely couple and we became good friends. They had booked this trip and asked if we would consider doing so and enjoy a holiday together. Sadly this trip did not compare in any way with our previous experience while cruising with Ponant. The only special part was meeting our friends. Our cabin left a lot to be desired, ...

Review for a Europe - All Cruise on Maud

They focus on nature and making a difference. I don't like cities on water. I don't like nightclubs and casinos. I like focus on nature, stillness, away from the city. Of the beaten track. Hurtigruten offers this. I like to leave a small carbon footprint when travelling. I enjoy travelling with older people or retired people. They make for better conversation. The group on this trip was ...

We chose this cruise because of the interesting ports of call and the possible excursion options (and prior experience with Hurtigruten). After our arrival in Lisbon, we did a private half day tour of the city prior to arriving at the ship - a very nice city to explore Embarkation went very smoothly and we were in time for dinner. Watch the lights of Lisbon fade away as we departed ...

In August, 2018, we first cruised along the coast of Croatia on Le Lyrial. It was fabulous-great weather, beautiful scenery with clear bright skies and turquoise waters. Our choice to do the Laperouse cruise was in part due to coordinating it with the end of the Croatian cruise on Le Lyrial. We had a wonderful week in between the two cruises in Portugal before embarking on Le Laperouse. The ...

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Silver Explorer

Arrived at the Wharf to find out the ship was still in drydock in another country and wouldn't be ready for 2+ days. Not only did we lose this time, two ports were eliminated and time cut short in three ports. The cabins were like a building site with coke and beer bottles, razor blades, screws and nails on the floor, bathrooms flooded, no TV movies and faulty aircon. After complaints 50% of ...

Gastronomic adventures in Portugal, Spain, and France

I recently returned from an amazing foodie experience that included tasting ports in Portugal, tapas and seafood in Galicia, oysters in Brittany, Calvados in Normandy, grand Cru wine in Bordeaux and regional cheeses, fish, sausages, pastries and wine all along the way. This was offered on the Silver Explorer, an expedition ship better known for penguin sightings in Antarctica and walrus and seal ...
