This must be the worst ship in the fleet for service. Food isn't great either and hygiene standards in the restaurants are unusually low. There seemed too few staff to offer a good standard of drinks service and service at the bars was random (unless you tip, which we did!). Managers were disinterested in feedback. Cocktails were dreadful, never had the same mix twice and no at seat service in the show lounge. I suspect that the further away the company get from the origional Thompson brand the lower the standards become. Food was cafe standard in the main dining room, tapas was lovely but the italian was distinctly average too. Dont expect the usual frills with your suite either, no canapes or bubbly on this boat. Usually, the good point outweighs the bad, but this time it just tipped the other way, I would never want to go on the explorer again. Read Less

Me and my husband have just returned from this cruise and we can honestly say we loved it. We will definitely be going again next year. I looked at all the reviews and spoke to some people and quite honestly, some were awful, so I wasn't expecting much from this so we were very pleasantly surprised. The food was very good, our outside cabin was good although a little small, but that's not thompsons fault. We had a look at some other cabins, so next time we know where will choose. The entertainment team are very good, although the 2 little bands who sing around the ship at various times need to shake up their repatoir a little. Having the sunny destinations to visit after the constant downpours in England was amazing. The trips are quite reasonable although we only did the Madeiran one, we got the shuttle bus on Lazarote as its a bit far to walk. Embarkation was very good, easy. And a reasonable time to vacate your cabin min the last day, 9.oclock in the morning. Hygiene was maintained at all times, and very clean. The photographers were not to persistent, and the maid service was especially helpful and very polite. All in all, a great time was had. Read Less

We choose thompsons cruise as we had cruised with the before and really enjoyed the experience. What a big mistake. The cruise was a disaster. We paid a supplement for an upgrade of cabin, you could proverbly not swing a cat in it. It was tiny to say the least. the shower had mould in it and rust round the door, shower curtain was disgusting. Feel sorry for cabin staff who have to clean cabin they are fighting a loosing battle. The towels were definitely passed their sell by date. The food was mediocre, but the waiters was very attentive. The drinks package was a joke, more drinks had a supplement attached to them. If you drink Guinness be prepared to be stung. The pool and jacuzzi we full of screaming kids. If you want a sun bed be prepared to get up at about 7am and put your towel on it, otherwise you won't get one. When you get off the ship be prepared for a long walk to your destination, if there is a shuttle bus you will most likely be asked to pay £5 each to go on it. Think Thompson has lost its way with the cruising experience. Or they want to encourage families with young children to cruise, if that is the case they should advertise this cruise ship as a suitable for families only. Read Less

This was our 3rd cruise with Thomson the first two cruises were on the Dream and the Celebration both of the later were really fantastic and the food was excellent the drinks packages were fair and affordable the cabins both times were spacious and comfortable the staff were fantastic nothing was to much trouble and both holidays were fabulous. when we booked our holiday for the 7/3/15 we were excited so when we arrived at the ship and taken to our cabin we were surprised to see the tiny cabin we were allocated we could hardly move in it was so claustrophobic, but the beds were comfortable and clean. The self service restaurant was clean but the food was not up to the same standard as on the previous cruises it was very mish mash, there was not a lot to choose from nothing seemed to go together there was not much in the way of vegetable's and the only fruit was melon or pineapple. some of the food cooked out on deck was cold by the time it was given out, there are not enough tables so a lot of the time you have to share . the service restaurant was fantastic the food was excellent although again some times we had to share with two other couples which is not romantic. the toilet facilities for the two self service restaurants two bars and a sun deck were appalling there were only two male and two female toilet's people spent a lot of time queuing up and complaining. The drinks package is very expensive as there was only two of us at nearly £400 for the week its a lot and we noticed there is more of the drinks that now have a extra charge on the last day we had to leave our cabin at 9 am my husband was taken ill with stomach pains and sickness a asked to pay extra for a cabin so he could lie down but I was told no, so I took him to the medical centre where he was give IV medication and rest for an hour he was told he had gastritis probably caused by Helibactor Pylori which is a stomach bug caused by contaminated water of food. he was so poorly I don't now how we got home on the plane I dint think it was going to happen. The staff were fantastic as always nothing is to big or small they work relentlessly to make sure every thing is clean and neat, they are so polite and helpful. Read Less

We stayed on the MSC Armonia for family vacation (one week cruise). My parents booked the trip and my girlfriend, brother and sister was traveling aswell. I took time off work to go on this trip and can say on behalf of me and my girlfriend that we most likely don´t want to go on a cruise ever again. The experience was not good at all. My advise is don´t ever travel with MSC cruises! - The customer service was non existence. Generally language wise employees had problems understanding english and some didn´t understand english at all. In addition the reception gave bad information regarding activities at the designated islands where the cruise ship stopped. We were told that we had an all inclusive package, but experienced extra fees everywhere if you wanted something out of the ordinary (like smoothie etc.) - The standard of the cruise was depicted by the travel agency was not at all near our expectations. I agree with other comments here regarding the standard was poor, it was said to be a newly renovated cruise ship. This was NOT true, I got an allergic reaction on my noose because I´m sensitive to dust (picture can be provided). Even my GF got sick by staying on the ship because of the dust and air quality. In addition the bathrooms looked old and tarnished. We actually had to clean our own cabin when we arrived ourself because there was hair in the bathtub. - We were promised that there would be gluten free alternatives onboard, my girlfriend has gluten intolerance. The restaurants there had almost next to none alternatives, they provided some dry bread, thats it. We had to use all day and our time and effort to find alternatives for her.Every time we arrived at the restaurant we had to explain and ask for gluten free alternatives even though there was the same people that served the meals every time. In addition my parents had problem with their cabin the air ventilation did not work and there was a bad smell in the whole cabin. The people working there came up with no good alternative. They said the cruise ship was full, so they had to sleep in this smell for seven nights.   Read Less

This was a horrible cruise. Chaos and pandemonium at embarkation. 3 hrs queuing with no explanation or organisation. Many people either missed their evening meal or were too exhausted to go down to the dining room. Lack of hand sanitizers, especially around the pizza bar in the buffet. I complained to maitre d'i. He said he would be picking up 6 more in Tenerife! They clearly don't value our health on MSC Armonia. If you don't like cigarette smoke, stay away. Half the pool deck is devoted to smokers along with areas in other bars and they even have a dedicated bar. For 3 days we had no lights in our cabin and the air conditioning blowing out cold air. The lifeboat drill was a joke. 2 youngsters running it hadn't got a clue. It lasted for about 1 minute, slice ce wasn't called for and I was told by a fellow sea-faring passenger that the life jackets were old and out of date, safety wise. You rarely see an officer about the ship and beware if you do, they barge ahead into lifts, up staircases etc, never a nod or acknowledgement and they are scruffy, dirty shoes and creased trousers. Whole experience was horrible. Haven't even mentioned the dining room food yet. On the plus side there was an excellent pizza chef who seemed to be at his post 24/7. The flamenco night in the theatre was excellent. One of best I have seen. Our waiter in dining room was good but, without saying as much, even he knew he was serving rubbish. Our cabin lad was very pleasant too and helpful. But it needs more than a few well intentioned staff to make this a good cruise. Armonia is a nightmare. Read Less

Recently returned from Colourful Coasts cruise with Thomson on the Celebration. First time on this ship, have been on the Spirit twice and Island Escape once. Haven't had the experience of other cruises so can't compare but we love Thomson. Transfer and Embarkation very smooth. Disappointed though that we joined in Gran Canaria with a small number of fellow passengers. So no sail away party night and we felt a bit left out. On arrival in our cabin ( pleasantly surprised) was spacious by Thomson standards and as ever spotless. New shower and fancy sink, flat screen tv wasn t great as couldn't see the screen too well if on an angle. Tea and coffee , kettle and hair dryer meant we were Platinum! Nice surprise to receive a chilled bottle of sparkling wine with compliments of Thomson as we've cruised before (plus have another Thomson cruise booked for June)! Ship was clean, recent refurb was OK, staff friendly as usual, cabin steward marvellous, they work so hard. Food was not self service as they were all in major stress mode following a novo virus outbreak the previous week. Staff served you in the Lido buffet, did feel a bit lime being back at school! The curries in there some nights were outstanding, midnight feasts after a few drinks ( we maximised our drinks package investment). This is best pre booked before arrival , we got it for £129 for the week for us both . Itinery great weather brilliant, only one day out of 7 (last day) was showers and cloud, the rest sunshine. Great places except Agadir, not the best of places. If I ever went again I'd stay on the ship. Fantasy show and Souk excursion was rubbish. We did laugh as felt like we were in some sort of 70's carry on film at the show. The women dancers were all over 60 and didn't dance much thankfully. Snake charmer wasn't charming at all and was basically cruel to the snakes. souk was big indoor market with stall holders jumping out at you every 5 secs. Glad to depart Morocco. We ate every night in the Meridian waiter service, never tried the cover charge place. Food standards have slipped , clear that they are cutting back on things , still good value for money overall. Entertainment great, good singers and they could dance well too. Disembarkation smith and stress free. Overall a great cruise again and can't wait until the next one.   Read Less
