Upon arrival the room as ready, clean, and as expected. We booked an obstructed veranda, to save a buck. DO NOT pick a spot between life boats, as the obstruction is LARGER on this ship. Looking over the lifeboats is barely obstructed in my opinion, and well worth the savings. Room was roomy with plenty of storage. Even drawers under the bed. Four pieces of luggage fit nicely under our bed too. The hall closet doors are an area of conflict. They do not fully open, and you can’t pass by them. Using the closet is a one-person proposition. Our friends oceanview was wider (and less money) - annoying. We had already heard complaints about the angled toilet. What we did not understand is you can’t sit on it at an angle. Your knee hits the shower wall. #stupid. But that shower was WONDERFUL - the largest of any we have had in almost 30 cruises. Our room stewards were FANTASTIC. Some of the best. THE AWFUL!!! Room was great UNTIL - we wanted, no NEEDED to go to bed at 10/10:30. This room is NOISY. And not just a little. I believe the ship has a defect. It is louder IN the room, than in the hall or the balcony. THUMP THUMP, BANG. Lasts until midnight or later. They must KNOW they have a problem. This room should NOT be sold - but be used by staff, or those sailing free. Perhaps a deaf person could be accommodated. IF HAL insists on selling the room it MUST come with a significantly reduced price - AND - a fair warning. Yes, we complained LOUDLY. They were NOT sympathetic, but The next to the last night we did receive $300obc. But since it was so late in the cruise all we could do is book one specialty dining the next night. IMO - this noise should have resulted in a 50% future cruise credit, as 50% of our vacation./sleep was ruined by the noise. But more importantly the situation needs to be addressed, and corrected. People don’t vacation to be bribed into happiness - they ask, expect, and demand a satisfying and relaxing time. fyi: there are COUNTLESS complaints about the noise on Cruise Critic and the Web. Obstructed view with large lifeboat. I could still see the shore and plenty of what was going on outside. I’m 5’2” and was able to see enough. Was decent for the price and extremely quiet for sleeping.

Cabin layout was a king bed, and a sofa (which folds out to a bed). Interior was very small, had barely any space to walk around once the sofa bed was folded out. Decors are minimal and functional rather than luxurious. Corner wine cabinet waste too much space. Storage adequate for 3 of us. A safe deposit box similar to previous cruises. Bathroom consist of wash hand basin, toilet and shower cubicle. All very clean. Shower cubicle surprisingly large, hot/cold water pressure were powerful. Unfortunately it was a connecting cabin and noise travel through connecting door. We could hear most of the loud Chinese neighbour's conversations. External verandah space consist of 2 deck chairs and a small stool. Overall adequate, but we hardly enjoyed it, as Icelandic and Norwegian temperatures were windy and cold. Downward views obstructed by lifeboats, but views above horizon unobstructed. Read Less

Cabin was clean and well-kept, small compared to other cruiselines (particularly small compared to Disney). Bed was uncomfortable. TV options were somewhat better than some other cruise lines (limited new movies and shows available on demand at no additional charge). Bathroom was actually really nice. Shower was larger than I am used to on cruise ships. Read Less

It was partially obstructed but for the Caribbean, where you only see water at night, it was great. I wouldn't choose obstructed for Alaska, Panama canal, or Fiords, but fine for Caribbean. We could see everything except straight down along the hull. The service was a 10, the shower refreshing, and the bed super comfortable. The balcony is small, but there was only two of us so it was plenty big! Read Less

I wanted the lowest category of balcony cabin available with an obstructed view. I scrutinized the floor plan to make sure we were not above any of the entertainment venues and from what was available I chose 4103 which appeared to be above a storage closet. I have paid for a VA (most expensive balcony category) cabin on the Oosterdam before was was very disappointed because the view was blocked by the jutting of the ship on one side and the hoists for the lifeboats on the other so I was not going to splurge again and still get an obstructed view. I was not disappointed in 4103. The only obstruction was the top of the lifeboat if you were sitting on the chairs on your balcony, otherwise you could see the whole vista perfectly. Because the cabin is midship and a low level you felt very little movement of the ship. However, 10 days into the 21 day cruise the ship started going at a faster rate and there was more than just calm seas and we started hearing a terrible "knocking" in the room. We investigated all the closets and drawers, the safe and the refrigerator and we could not find the cause of the noise. In the morning I went to the front desk and complained and they said because the ship was moving through rougher seas it was just the movement of the ship. I have been on about 10 cruises and have never heard this kind of noise before and said so. It sounded like someone was knocking at our door. Indeed, we got up in the middle of the night to answer the door when the knocking started only to find no one there. They came to our room to hear the noise and said there had been previous complaints about noise in this room and they pointed to shims placed above the molding where the wall meets the ceiling where they had tried to prevent the noise. This ship is only 1 year old - it should have been made better :-( Long story short they moved us to another room, problem solved! Other than the mystery noise, the shower was great but the new configuration of the toilet leave you with your knees up against the shower wall. The bathroom is very small but I think they all are now. Read Less

At first we were a little concerned as we had an obstructed view, but it turns out we had a great view. You could see the top of a lifeboat but beyond that the view was the same as all the other veranda rooms. The room had a Large window as well as a door that leads to a large balcony. I was impressed with the size of the TV as well as all of the movies available on demand. They also provided a powerful blowdryer and a magnified make up mirror for the ladies. The bath room was very modern with a handheld showerhead that has a really good water preasure. We loved the room nd our room stewards Oom and Harris were great. Read Less
