Arrival at Gatwick did not go according to plan as there was conflict regarding checking our bags in the night before. ON FLY CRUISES YOU CANNOT DO THIs Otherwise embarkation and disembarkation was speedy and efficient This cruise came up to all our expectations with one major exception that is the volume of the entertainment on deck 9 and in the Atrium. In the afternoon on deck 9 it was what they call Trivia which was quizzes, music etc. The compare had the microphone on full volume, to the extent it was difficult to talk to people and too read. The same applied to the music in the atrium in the evenings. In our case there was a guy with a guitar playing and singing. The volume was such that you could not carry out a conversation, we along with others had to move.Again in was a case of the volume being turned up too loud,Music in cases like this should be back ground you should not need to compete with it to talk to people a few feet away. I hasten to add the guitarist was really good. The bar staff on deck 9 in particular Jodi and her brother Christopher was excellent, super efficient and very happy people a real pleasure to be served by them. The classic car trip in Havana was good but Havana itself did not impress us. Would recommend the panama canal excursions,In Montego Bay. I did the Chukka Zip Wire. Superb fun and the instructors in particular namely Gray Goose Oka and Gossy Vernon. Excellent at their jobs. All in all everything about the cruise was superb in particular the food and our cabin boy Ikhsan, he really looked after us.My wife would have appreciated an Act of Worship on Sundays as practiced on other cruise ship. Finally talks or discussions would be appreciated as and alternative to going ashore or in addition too.sea days Read Less

I have cruised with tui for many years but this has to be one that I can stay will stick in my mind for the wrong reason. Getting to the ship was as usual very good as you would expect with marella cruises from leaving Manchester to arrival in Montego Bay. Could not fault cabin very good as usual, but when you go for evening meal in 47 Restuarant here is where it falls down. Firstly the waiters lean across table to serve other dinners on table,rather than by your side as with normal Restuarants, If you have steak for an evening meal don't expect steak knife cut through with blunt knife, you are not offered tea and coffee now you have to ask. The second day was good easy to get sun bed no worries. I took two evening shirts for formal nights but did not wear because on the evening of dress to impress I had a quick look over the Atriaum balcony and what I saw changed my mind, I was going to wear my formal wear but when people are wearing shorts and bathing wear why bother. I make my way again to 47 Restuarant that evening and was dressed with shirt bow tie trousers and shoes so as far as I was concerned smart but then dinners walk in in shorts open toed sandals so why bother. After evening meal went for walk on ship and easy to get to other areas through Broadway shops good quality into show lounge. Here maybe the show team are new but not the best I've seen I am sure they will get better. After show of to venue bar for game shows very good and funny entertainment team were very good. After shows of to love room where the casino was and again could not fault. If you are still hungry in the evening then go to Glasshouse and get a good evening buffet recommend the curry. The service in all areas was great and the waiters are very friendly and if you go often even rember what you drink which is amazing. The ship is very good indeed and unfortunately had to visit medical centre because my wife became ill, these people really do care and look after you, if it's an insurance claim don't worry they sort out the whole thing. To them I send a big thank you. So all in all here are my main points about this cruise, 1....Think about how waiters serve meals and correct utensils for meal 2....Think about dress code and monitor it Hopefully these can be improved, I realise I could have gone to Islands which is self service but I like to be served in evening. Let's hope things do improve am on discovery in December so hope for better things. Read Less

We booked this cruise as a "transitional " from the Caribbean to Palma calling at various places , we particularly were looking forward to Cuba ,Nassau and Lisbon and Bermuda ...the first three destinations were cancelled shortly after the final balance was paid ( nice!! ) We booked an upgrade and were given cabin 8031 The ship looked good , staff brilliant , food very good with a wide choice , cabin horrendous , the vessel had a major refit in 2016 , former office space was converted into cabins ( 6 in all on the port side ) On this vessel the engines are amidships and as the cabins are by the open atrium they are subject to a lot of noise , worse still they are also afflicted with constant vibration from the engines ( particularly at sea ) and creaking from the wall panels and windows .We had to move to another cabin to save our sanity .... All this made the cruise a nightmare at times , which was a shame because resturants were very good , entertainment suited most people we talked to , the other thing to note is that you cannot get away from piped music ( loud at times ) wherever you walk or sit it will always be there which is a shame because there where some very nice places . There is a complete walk round on deck ( 4 laps 1 mile ) We would probably have enjoyed the cruise more with a better cabin as the ship has a lot going for it but sadly the vibration issue afflicting it spoiled our enjoyment Read Less

Just wanted to let fellow cruisers know of an amazing place near Amber Cove where you can volunteer to spend either half or full day at Dove Missions. Check out their website and trip adviser. We had such a worthwhile morning spent meeting children from one of the poorest areas around tbe barrio. At the school we played games, crafts and helped them with learning English. Martina and the staff are amazing and make you feel so welcome. You leave with a memory that will last a lifetime. Back to the cruise itself. I loved joining the' A Band on Ship 'learning to play the ukelele. My husband joined the choir. The singers, in particular Braxi Music and Dan were excellent, and we couldnt fault anything regarding entertainment. The theatre shows were outstanding. Food was fab, public areas beautiful, the whole ship was very impressive. The only downside of the whole experience was disembarking at Palma. Poor Brett put himself (very admirably) on the front line to take responsibility for a very badly organised departure from the ship. Should have kept cruisers in the groups which pertained to the colour of their luggage labels denoting their flight destinations and moved people group by group rather than the free for all experience of taking an hour and half to get off the ship. Despite that one hiccup we had an amazing time and will definitely look to cruise with Marella again Read Less

We sailed with friends, choosing this cruise based on destination and price. Dreamliner flight from Glasgow was amazing...only to be ruined by the immigration fiasco in Montego Bay. Given two cards on arrival..no pens available, herded into a hall/corridor with no aircon! Had to lean on walls/floor to complete forms, whilst security shouted instructions from the other end of the area. Form 1 taken at security, without being checked, form 2 taken as you disembarked the coach after transfer to ship. Found out after speaking to other guests, Manchester flight were given the forms onboard...how much simpler was that!! Be aware. Boarding was seamless and found cabin with no problem. Given we had got a great price for trip, our cabin, midship deck 5 was fine, a little small but you only sleep in it so was not a problem. Shower-room a little tired but spotless. Cabin staff work really hard, couldn't fault. Dining became a full time job! Food was varied and plentiful, anrything we didn't like was personal taste. Ate between two buffet restaurants during the day and Orion in the evening. Our waiters were Joseph, Samuel and Eugene...what a team. I celebrated my birthday whilst onboard and we booked Mistrals, amazing food and service. Best steak I have ever eaten. It was so good we booked again for the last night of holiday. We upgraded to Premium All Inclusive. To be honest, not worth the money..would have been cheaper paying the supplement per drink. One of our party is t total but had to pay for the upgrade as both passengers must take this. Perhaps something could be done Thomsons. Captain Harris was seen around the ship regularly, talking with his crew and passengers...something we had never seen on Royal Caribbean ships. We had 6 sea days going transatlantic, The weather here was some of the sunniest. I found this ok, enough to do if you made the effort. Entertainment crew work so hard always with a smile. All in all ship and crew were great and we would cruise with Thomson again. Tho only thing I would like to make you aware of was the timing of this cruise. We were the last ship to leave the Caribbean..end of season..most shops had little stock left. It was also over Easter or Holy Week as the Islanders called it. There were days where bars etc were closed on the trips as no alcohol can be served before 6pm, but it meant you couldn't get juice or water either. The weather was iffy, humid, plenty clouds and rain and some sunshine. Wouldn't cruise at this time again, normally go in November, weather better then. Malaga airport was a nightmare after checking for flight home. I had been warned it was the 'worst airport ever' and it lived up to this..boarding gate was changed 4 times...one of them boarding, the flight was going to Glasgow....but with Ryanair,not Thomson! All in all a great holiday with friends,can't really fault this trip Read Less

this was our 2nd transatlantic cruise our 1st was a rough crossing this one was very calm we stayed in an inside cabin deck 7 very clean spacious great nights sleep our cabin steward cleaned twice a day always polite and smiling we paid for the drinks package this time and where very pleased with the fantastic choice on offer coffee and tea's are free of charge if you are on the drinks package but if you used the speciality coffee bar there was a small cost £1.40 for a large latte we ate in the Orion restaurant for breakfast and evening meal all the staff in the Orion gave great service we also used all speciality restaurants for a small cover charge yes the ship is ageing but so are we LOL and they keep the ship in excellent condition shows were very good the new casino area very nice my only gripe would be not enough staff in the medusa lounge many were training and the experienced left the ship to join the new ship the discovery when we docked in cadiz we did not go on any excursions but did use the spa treatments very good afternoon being pampered the ports we visited were superb we visited Bermuda the Azores cadiz malaga Alicante Dominican republic and Palma no tenders at any ports all disembarkations went very smoothly we even had extra hours in a couple of ports as the captain used to say every day buckle up and enjoy the ride thank you to all the staff for there professionalism courtesy and friendliness. What a dissapointment. My husband and I have been on many cruises, with lots of different cruise lines. Expected this cruise to be high up on the list. Mr Thompson you set mediocre standards and fail to attain them. A glorified rust bucket, you even had to pay for the water on fully inclusive package ! The food served in the Orion Restaurant was bland and sometimes cold, the showers were dangerously hot and the toilets which were not plentiful were often blocked. The lifts were extremely slow, the air con in our room didn't work, and embarkation was at a snails pace, a lot of passengers were getting irate as they were hot and thirsty, but no welcoming glass of water available. There was only a handful of positive views on this cruise, the first being the fantastic crew, without these lovely people the ship would sink ! This ship apparently had a refurb last November, but honestly, I think it had a slight lick of paint and lots of silicone. The whole ship is in a bad state of repair, loose decking, loose toilets, shabby carpets and curtains. On the drinks package I could have got a pint glass of spirits at no cost, but yet, had to pay for a bottle of water. Not logical! As soon as you get on the boat they want your money. The one day it rained, the tried to sell flimsy bin liner type ponchos for £3.50! Cheek. Read Less

Thomson Dreamliner is a fantastic plane. Lots of leg room and free food and drink during the flight. But, what started well, ended badly. The Jamaican airport was hot, humid, crowded and queued. No where to sit, no air conditioning, no water and no where to rest in a confined corridor containing hundreds of people. Tempers flared after hours waiting to get to embarkation and some felt faint. A musical group from the island greeted us at the ship but the singer was out of tune and the musicians seemed fed up of playing it took that long for everyone to board. The buffets were always full of food and refreshments and the restaurant was great for an evening meal. However, the food was mostly overcooked, warm at best when eating and not very tasty in all the eateries. I did not like the fact you helped yourself to buffet with tongs. It would have been more hygienic to have been given the food by buffet staff. Despite the fact the ship had antibacterial dispensers throughout, many passengers ignored them. I had a bad tummy in the middle of the first week and was told by a passenger that the ship had had Noro virus aboard the week before resulting in the closure of the Jacuzzis. I was also by other passengers that many people were being treated for a bad cough, an outbreak which had been on board since December with antibiotic drips having to be issued for pneumonia and also that 5 people had died on board during this time. Myself and my husband both went home with a bad cough at the end of the cruise. One woman was badly burnt by a soot gob that had been blown from the ship's funnel. Many passengers had broken their arms whilst on board. Health and safety was an issue as I saw a crew member carrying two stacks of cups on his tray down a spiral staircase. Smoking was allowed on the decks which was very quickly extended to inside the ship and door areas by smokers who ignored the rules. It was hard to get away from cigarette smoke on the deck areas. We found it very difficult to get a sun lounger before 10am and these were hogged by selfish passengers all day despite the fact that they were not using them for hours. The ship had an overcrowded feel during the sea days and the days were quite strained. The behavior of some of the passengers was terrible despite their mature years. Tempers flared and a fight broke out over the use of a lift which carried on in the sun deck. There was a lot of foul language used by some of the down to earth types which did offend other passengers with their rudeness at times. Some of the deck flooring was bubbled and torn. The first port was La Romana. I wish I had stayed aboard the ship. We were transported by shuttle to the nearby town and was immediately bombarded by very persistent venders that were very intimidating. We all immediately got right back on the bus and returned to the ship. This port did not match the description at all. My favourite ports were St Maartin and Antigua. Shops were wonderful and there were many nice places to go. The Virgin Islands were a little boring as we had not been able to book a tour but on returning to the ship many passengers were disappointed with their trips here. One had gone to see whales and was told by locals that whales are a rare sight in April as they don’t arrive until June when the season for them starts. We did see some flying fish and dolphins on the sea days. Gibraltar is a nice place but there was very little time to visit more than one venue as the ship departs at 2pm and we had to be back on board by 1:30. We were talked out of using the cable car by the port taxi drivers who said that we would not have time to use it. The port inspector confirmed this when asked to back up the statements but on speaking to the tourist visitor centre they said we would have had plenty of time to use it. So I think we were conned into using them at a cost. To sum up, I personally quite enjoyed my time on this cruise but I know that quite a few other passengers were very disappointed and if rumors were correct some did not return at all. Read Less

This holiday is based on deception by the tour operator. If you want to be realistic about expectations this cruise should be judged on a one star basis. When we embarked at Montego Bay there seemed to be a problem the week before with a virus as the staff served all the food and drink for the first 2.5 days. The sauna also was closed for the same duration. The notice displayed on its door verified it was closed as a health precaution. Passengers we spoke to, who were on board the previous week, verified this, adding that the problem seemed to be profound in deck 5. On our last week aboard, there were a large number of passengers who had a flu like virus. In fact, on disembarkation, the number of fellow passengers around us coughing was alarming. Maybe people should assess this when booking a cruise on a ship like this as the vast majority of cabins and public areas are sealed and are fed by recycled air. Perhaps going on a cruise with a cabin that has a balcony has health benefits too. Is it a coincidence that the medical centre is down in the bowels of the ship? In my opinion it should be next to the shops, so the passengers can see if there are any queues developing outside it. The top end of the entertainment team was fantastic but the others who entertained during the day were no better than the ones in a caravan park. One word of caution: there is a new "dream team" on board for the summer season in the Med. They appeared for one night on our last week and were grossly inferior to the incumbents. On the transatlantic crossing we had to lose 7 hours in order to reposition to European time. This was done at 2 o'clock in the afternoon which made the time move to 3 o'clock. This meant that one hour of quality time was being lost on these days. It just so happens Thomson then had one less hour to feed, water and entertain passengers. Even the staff lost out as apparently Thomson took an hour from their break during the day. Quite despicable of them as the staff work in excess of 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. Surprise, surprise when The Dream travels from Europe to the Caribbean in the Autumn, the clocks are changed backwards overnight which prevents the exact opposite situation ie passengers having more time to eat, drink and be merry in the afternoon. The best advice I can give is bring a face mask with you for sleeping as in my opinion the air quality in the cabins is extremely poor . Read Less
