I chose this cruise because I was going with a group of other couples as a couples/family trip. The experience was ok for the most part. This was our 1st cruise bc we mostly fly to our destination of choice. When we got on board we had a hard time finding our room, bc again this was our 1st cruise, the guys at the entrance way asked if we needed help and we told them our room # and one guy just pointed us to the elevators. So when we got on we noticed on the outside there were letters but the inside there were numbers. So we went back and motioned for him to come show us how it worked and again he just pointed to the elevators. So luckily one of the couples we were with showed us how the numbers corresponded with the letters. Ok minor all is well. We go to our rooms to get settled and put our luggage away, when we get a knock on the door and a few seconds later some worker is walking in, talk about invasion of privacy and this happened on several occasions. So then we get finished with the safety review and head to get drinks ( cheers package was already purchased) and food. The guy at the bar seemed very annoyed that we were ordering drinks bc granted it was pretty busy, but he seemed that way throughout the trip. So again we let it go and we started having a good time. Now let's fast forward to the time where I asked for extra cheese on my Guys burger and asked for it to be melted on the grill instead of a cold piece of cheese being thrown on burger and they guy literally rolled his eyes. WOW! So now we get to the end of our 4 day voyage and we get a bill with an additional $55.96 x's 2 for additional "gratuities for your team members". Then once we get home we checked our acct and noticed we were charged for the cheers package twice a total of over $1000 for DRINKS when we have a receipt for $537 total. So bc we were told there would be several holds on our acct we waited to see if the other charges would fall off, they did not so I called Carnival Cruises Customer Service and was informed that one of the charges of over $500 would come off bc it was a hold but the additional $111.92 was there to stay bc we didn't stop by Guest Services to advise them we didn't want to pay the additional for tips. Mind you in the cheers package you are already charged 18%=$82 EACH PERSON for gratuities and now we were charged an EXTRA $111.92. This is a complete rip off and we will NEVER book with Carnival again and will advise any and everyone we know who is thinking of booking Carnival not to do so. The customer service was not all that great and Carnival had the nerve to charge for additional gratuities, what a joke. I am completely not satisfied with this experience at ALL. Read Less

This was my first cruise, and I have to say that everyone I interacted with (with the occasional exception) was truly FANTASTIC! Cam (the Cruise Director) was phenomenal; the bar staff including Lulu, Hery, Luzviminda, Cherrie, Rosita were INCREDIBLE; our room steward Yudi was truly AWESOME; and the entertainment crew including DJ Alter and Bingo Bella were EXTRAORDINARY! I literally have no complaints about the majority of my cruise. The room was slightly aged, but the service made it worth it. The ship showed some signs off wear, but the crew was always cleaning and repairing it. It shows they care about the presentation, so any minor cosmetic defects were easy to overlook. The dining room service was EXCEPTIONAL, and the Guy's Burger and Blue Iguana Cantina were really good. I will say the dining room evening food lacked a little flavor, but with some salt and pepper it was much better. Our family could not be more grateful to everyone for our experience, and we will be returning on another cruise in the future on CARNIVAL. Read Less

So to start this review it must be known that this was my 13th cruise and 3rd on Carnival. I selected Ecstasy because it fit my travel time and location. Embarkation and debarkation was a breeze. That was very good. The ship is outdated which I did not care about. It was the 1st cruise for my adult kids so they didn’t have anything to compare it to. Entertainment was ok. No huge complaint there. Service was good. Everyone nice. My only major complaint was the food. It was bad. I like food more on the bland side but this was bad. No flavor. A lot of food wasn’t warm. We only ate in the dining room once. Meat was dry and lacked flavor. Our only saving grace was the deli. Kids liked the pizza ok. I did somewhat enjoy the lunch tacos. Guys burgers were extremely greasy. I will not sail on Ecstasy ever again. People warned me. They were right. Save your money. Read Less

I enjoyed myself sooo much. embarkation & disembarkation went fairly smooth, I had my birth certificate, and although you didn't need a passport, I highly recommend it, it makes the overall process easier, as well as getting on & off the ship when you are at port. we had an oceanview cabin, it was nice, spacious for the most part & clean. the food was amazing, I didn't try every restaurant like I wanted to, i mostly stayed at Guy's Burger joint, which have the best burgers I've ever had in my life. the entertainment and activities were fun, our cruise caption Cam made my first experience that much more greater, I loved how there were activities to do every hour of the day, you were never left with nothing to do. the staff were amazing, kept cabin neat & clean, everyone was always smiling & willing to help with anything. I'm glad i picked carnival cruise line for my first cruise. already planning my second & third cruises. I'm happy to now be apart of the cruise life. Read Less

This was a quick get away for my husband and I. Thank you jelly, Cam, the cruise director, Blessings, Superda, from Thailand, Danny, Roel, and especially Hery our cabin steward, also Lelia. You guys were great and made our cruise even better. It was a delight to feel so welcome and you went out of your way to ensure that we had fun. There were so many of you and I hope I haven’t forgotten any of you. Thanks Allison for your guidance during shopping. We got held up in DI in The Bahamas and didn’t get all the perks but that’s ok. We will definitely see you again but not on deck 7. Room E66 was not a great choice for us because of all the noise. It’s a party ship Blessings to you all. What an awesome Captain: can park a ship on a dime. Great job!! Never been on a ship where the captain actually got engaged with us and kept us abreast of everything. We am platinum members and this was by far the best cruise ever. Freeport absolutely sucks. Should be dropped from all ports of call. All I saw was containers and junk. Not attractive. Read Less

The cruise was relaxing. We went to Princess Cays, where we got a Sanctuary Bungalow that we enjoyed very much. We weren't fans of the Nassau market off the port since we don't like having all the vendors constantly trying to convince you to go into their shop (or get your hair braided). The food in the MDR was great. We had your-time-dining and only had to wait once. We enjoyed the music shows and went to both showings both times. I wish there had been more of them instead of only two nights. The main reason for my review is to share a warning about room E82, and really all the rooms around there. I had no idea how loud it would be in that room due to the music in the Atrium. I had researched the room beforehand and hadn't seen any warning, so I decided to add my own review afterward so that others would know better. This isn't something that would be better one or two rooms further away. The noise was loud enough that I wouldn't recommend any rooms in the midsection of the Emerald deck at all. I would recommend going with a different deck, or perhaps all the way in the Aft section. Read Less

Where to start... 1. Lines, be ready to wait in a lot of them. From dining, boarding and getting off the ship you will spend 10-15% of your awake time standing in some kind of damn line. Also be prepared to have terrible communication from the cruise director as to where you should ACTUALLY go to stand in line as well as poor planning on how to execute service excellence Examples A. Initial boarding - 15-20 Agents are there to check international travel documentation, rolls through semi smooth. Exiting - Only 7 agents to check documentation, causing major delays in getting off the ship. *important if you have a flight to catch. I’ll also mention you are in a steel building in 100 degree Jacksonville heat with no AC. Dip security personal announces “welcome back to the real world, citing line length and to suck it up”. They already have your money, at this point they don’t care about your experience. 2700 people exiting the ship and only 7 lines. Example B. Dining We went here on our honeymoon and never once got to eat breakfast or lunch together. It’s unorganized lunchroom chaos. You can’t start out in 2 different lines and arrive at your table 20 minutes apart. Example C. Excursions If you are told to be on deck 3 to exit the ship; don’t plan on going to deck 3 and expecting to walk off. The line to exit starts on the deck 4 and wraps down two hallways. Don’t expect a carnival agent to actively be communicating this or managing the lines either. This also pertains to your final exit from the ship as well. It’s not that it’s an oversight; it’s just that they don’t care enough to come up with another system. Additionally, Princess Kays lunch had impossible lines for Hamburgers and hotdogs the entire time we were there. We weren’t going to take an hour out of our time there to stand in that line. We are when we got back on the boat. But seriously, 2700 people in two lines to get hamburgers and hotdogs. 2. The “cheers” package. If you think this is going to be all inclusive , its not. It’s limit of 15 alcoholic drinks a day (does not apply on the carnival owned Princess Kays island either, you are paying full price there). This is somewhat expected however here at the ‘extra’ limitations. A. If you are an early riser and would like a coke product or an energy drink in the morning; don’t expect to get it before 8am. Additionally, expect to wait in a separate line if you want a coke with your lunch. *Most important, they won’t give you a unopened (single can) of coke to add ice to and drink in the morning before the bar areas open. I had to ask for a supervisor after my wife requested one for me and got shot down. B. “I’d like a double” is taboo with Cheers. They don’t have the capability of pouring more than one shot at a time. You have to wait 5 minutes and get back in the line and wait for another shot to be added to your glass. Lines vary, but expect a double of liquor to take 15-20 minutes total. Additionally you can not pay extra for a double.m205 3. Beach chairs and pool size Chairs are less than an inch apart from each other on the ship and at the carnival resort. Expect to be right on top of one another and to see many people trip trying to navigate between them. If you don’t like crowds, then you will never swim in the pool. It’s filled to capacity most hours of the day. It’s roughly 1/4 of an Olympic pool size for 2700 guests. 4. Entertainment Pro- Actually really good music Cons- Emphasis on jewelry purchases and art auctions. A lot of emphasis on this. Comic/magician from Chicago was terrible. 5. Broken elevators, 2700 guests. Do the math. 6. Beds are similar to those you’ll find in a camper. 7. Dinners were all actually really good; with great service. Everything is loud. Like REALLY loud. Don’t expect to communicate with other guests if you are a stones throw from any entertainment venue. 8. Carnival rates the ship for 2056 passengers (guests). We were told 2700 were exiting the ship. We departed from Jacksonville, FL and went to Nassau and Freeport. We left Thursday afternoon and returned early Monday morning. My friend and I are both wheelchair users. In order to help preserve the health of my shoulders, I rented a motorized scooter and left my chair in the room as I used the scooter to get around on the ship and for land excursions. The wheelchair accessible room we had was SO small. It clearly didn't start off as a w/c accessible room but rather it was updated to be up to ADA code at some point. Both of our wheelchairs and scooter didn't fit in the room so my wheelchair had to spend the entire time on the balcony. Not exactly the end of the world but it was an inconvenience and a surprise that an ADA room was not big enough to accommodate 3 mobility devices. If my wheelchair wasn't taking up room on the balcony and I was able to get out in the balcony it would have been impossible because like I mentioned, it used to be a regular room. The original layout had about a 1-2 inch lip leading out to the balcony which they "fixed" by affixing a piece of plywood to create a "ramp". It was the same deal with the bathroom. Completely unsafe and difficult to navigate. Regarding the bathroom, the toilet was VERY low which is a safety hazard for someone who is paralyzed. There is a reason why wheelchair accessible toilets are up so high. The beds were another issue. We literally SUNK into the bed. It was like being in a waterbed. It was difficult to roll over and even to sit up from laying down and neither issue was due to our disabilities. One other thing was the location of the thermostat for temperature control in the room. It thermostat was ON THE CEILING. In a WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE ROOM. What were we supposed to do? Fly to the thermostat? Our room was freezing so we call guest services and they said they'd be right up. So we waited a while as we realize we're not the only disabled passengers on the ship. When a half hour passed by they were like "OMG we are so sorry. We'll be right there." Well, "we'll be right there" was another half hour. VERY poor planning on Carnivals part on placing the thermostat on the ceiling Carnival REALLY needs to up their game when it comes to making their staterooms wheelchair accessible like their website says. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. Our room was U224 just to warn you. As far as the rest of the cruise it was fine. Super friendly people and wonderful employees. Our waiting staff in the dining room were awesome and always provided a fun dinner. Read Less

We sailed on the Carnival Elation out of Jacksonville on September 5th, 2016. We chose Jacksonville because it is an easy drive for us, no airfare required. The Elation is an older ship that has been renovated. We had no complaints with the ship. It's not quite as large as most of the newer Carnival ships, with approximately 2,000 passengers and 900 crew. Swimming pool is rather small and often crowded. Our cabin was clean and roomy enough for us. We had an ocean view cabin on Deck 7 / Empress deck, it was nice being on Deck 7 since it is closer to dining, shows, bars, pool, everything, in fact. than the lower decks. We were pleased with the food and dining, for the most part. Breakfast and lunch buffets were mostly the same each day. Dinner provided a good bit of variety and the service was quite good with only one exception. We were disappointed that many (but not all) of the vocals in the "live" shows, were lip-synced. This was a departure from what we had seen in previous Carnival live shows. We were also disappointed that one of the performers was pretending to play a guitar during the "Epic Rock" show, which he was obviously faking. The one comedy act we saw was really funny. His name is Jimmy Carroll and we were both laughing out loud. His ad libs were even funnier than his jokes. We visited Nassau on foot, on our own, and found it was a quick and relatively easy walk to Queen's Staircase and Fort Fincastle. We also enjoyed a brief visit to the Bahama Historical Society Museum on the way. All for free! Half Moon Cay was a blast, great swimming beach and loved the "Shipwreck Bar". The "Beach BBQ" was no great shakes, hamburgers, hot dogs and marinated chicken. Nice gym with good views out of the front of the ship. The casino was smoky at times, we'd love to find ships that are completely smoke free! We were also disappointed that the $10 Blackjack tables only pay 6 to 5 for Blackjack, so there is no advantage to playing the $10 table vs. the $6 table. You have to play $15 minimum Blackjack to get the 3-to-2 payout that should be the norm. We only used room service one time for late night sandwiches, they were delivered in about 20-25 minutes and were pretty good. Read Less
