This was a last minute booking. I booked on Sep 12th around noon and got in the car to drive South. We like sailing at of Jacksonville as it is not to hateful of a drive from Ohio. We were just looking for a quick get away and Carnival Ecstasy did not disappoint. Since we booked so late, our check in time was 1:30PM however, we showed up early on the of chance they were ahead of schedule. We were on the ship around 12:30. Fifteen minutes from the time we parked till we got up on the Lido deck. The ship is showing her age but she is slated for dry dock on October which I expect consist of a good paint job and new décor. We will find out as we are booked on the Ecstasy in November. We had a port hole cabin on the main deck. The room was extra deep based on its location. The room was very clean. For the most part, we ate only on the Lido deck, Bonsai Sushi express or room service. We looked at the dining room menus through the cruise and everything sounded good. I only packed shorts, so we did not go in for dinner. I know that you can but cruise casual to me is at least a golf shirt and pants. Its not difficult and I will they would at the very least enforce the current code even though its to lax. The cruise director Cam and the Fun Squad were very good. Everything we saw, we enjoyed. DJ Spike was one of the better ones that we have seen in a while. The dancers were really good and you could see their practice paid off. This was our first time to Princess Cay. I still prefer Half Moon. While the beach is very pretty, they cram a lot of beach chairs in the various coves so it is hard to get away if you are looking to truly relax. We would definitely go again though. We didn't spend much time in Nassau. I was not feeling great so we just walked around for a few hours Read Less

Over 20 cruises with Carnival. Each one an experience. Although this ship is a little old now,she is still a fun ship. Great staff on this ship makes the voyage lots f of fun and entertaining. Cam,the cruise director is definitely one of the best. He really puts his all into everything he does. One of if not the best singing/dance teams we have seen. Ardestra Gardens in Nassau was beautiful. Small garden with marching flamingos! About $18 for ticket and a $20 taxi ride there. Definitely worth a visit, highly recommend. Half moon cay was beautiful as usual, watch out for jellyfish! Otherwise beautiful sandy beach with lots of room for fun and relaxation. Looking for jewelry? Check out Effy on ship, Marianne or Alexandra are 2 ladies who know their stuff. They also give away lots of cool stuff. Guys burgers are always a hit, and they have improved their desserts in the lido restaurant. Had ocean view room, which was comfortable and plenty of storage space for 2. There was worn spot in shower floor which was repainted during cruise while we were out and about. I also recommend that when looking at reviews to take more notice of this who have done more than one review. These folks have cruised often and know what to expect. Just saying! Read Less

Carnival review First I would like to say that the staff on this ship was excellent! Unfortunately the overall cruise left us rather disappointed. I knew going in this was going to be a budget get away but I expected more from Carnival. It is obvious they cut corners to cut cost on this older ship. Now for the details: Jacksonville Port: 5/5 stars. We paid for parking at the cruise terminal and parking was right there in front of the ship. Since we had Faster to the Fun we walked right in, checked in, had our bags scanned, and were on the boat without any wait at all. Our car was safe for the week and we were able to disembark, walk out to the car, load up, and drive away within minutes of getting off the boat. No need for taxi or shuttle. Ship: 2/5 Stars. The Carnival Ecstasy is an old ship. Overall it is still in good condition but it does show its age. There was a smell of sewage or trash on occasion in different areas of the ship. I do not think it was lack of cleanliness, as the staff was very attentive to keeping things clean, but more due to a lack of ventilation on this old ship. This layout of the public areas is choppy and makes for crowded events. The pool is way to small the hot tubs are tiny. The one club with a dance floor was extremely small. The Buffet is small. The putt putt golf course is unusable space due to wind. Overall its just a poor design that lacked functionality for a cruise ship. Cabin: 3/5 stars. Cabin M262 Ocean View (6b) was a good size. The window was nice to have. On Port days we could feel a good bit of engine vibration as the ship positioned itself and the tie ropes were pulled out. However since we were already waking up for the day this was not that disruptive. Our room steward was excellent. I did notice some stains on the linens and the pool towels looked old. The room needs more draw space and at least 2 power outlets. The TV worked fine though it was small. The first night it was kind of warm but apparently they fixed something because our room stayed nice and cool after that. Food and Dining: 1/5 stars. The food was very lackluster and basic. Breakfast buffet was equal to a basic hotel breakfast. It was exactly the same every day. On 2 occasions my husband got spoiled milk! The lunch and dinner buffet was not better. It was small, had very few options, and the desserts were not good. There was a serious lack of vegetable options at all dining venues. If you are hungry later at night your options are soft serve ice-cream that melted faster than it could dispense into a bowl or pizza from the 24 hour pizza counter (which we never tried). The dessert selection was mediocre at best. I found some chocolate chip cookies a couple times that were pretty good and resorted to taking about a dozen back to our room to have as a snack after the evening comedy show ended. The main dining room food was good but not "great", for example the steak was flavorless. The staff at the main dining room was great though sometimes they took a little too long to bring dessert menus or refill our water glasses. There were a few things that were good but overall Carnival needs to up their game on this cruise’s menu. Entertainment and Activities: 2.5/5 stars. Before 7pm it was total boredom unless you wanted to hang out at the pool which was way too small and over crowded, play bingo, or gamble in the casino. After 7pm the entertainment was pretty good. The evening stage shows were excellent. The Comedy guys were pretty good. One guy was better than the other one but both made us laugh. Beyond the stage shows and the comedians there was a piano bar /sing along which was cool until overly drunk people came in and were so loud and obnoxious you couldn’t enjoy it anymore. There was a violin duo which was very good but there wasn’t much room to sit and listen or dance while they played. There was a band at another bar area that was great but it was right in the main walk through so you couldn’t dance there either. There wasn’t really anywhere to go to dance other than the one “nightclub” room that was small and had a DJ that played music based on a theme (80’s, 90’s, Motown etc) for about an hour. Service: 5/5 Stars. The staff and crew are all very hard working and attentive to the guests. Only one staff was somewhat rude. My husband stopped a buffet staff member to tell him about the spoiled milk and his response was “get another one” and he walked away. Later we let the head staff member know about the milk and he seemed aware there was a problem. Ports and Shore Excursions 2.5/5 stars: We went to Half Moon Cay which was beautiful but lacked activities in my opinion. We did not try to eat at the cook out on the island and went back to the ship for lunch. In Nassau we just walked around close to the port since we stopped here right after a major hurricane and there was a huge influx of refugees from the other Bahama Islands. I was happy to find a Starbucks for some coffee and we shopped at the touristy souvenir shops. Obviously there is more to this beautiful Island but we just did not venture very far. There were a lot of people urging you to take their taxi or carriage ride or buy from their shop. This is expected and no one was too aggressive, a polite “no thank you” from us and they moved on to the next passenger that walked by. We took the Behind the Fun tour on the ship and it was enjoyable. If you like to learn how the ship is ran it’s a great experience. Unfortunately we had rough seas the day of our tour and by the time it ended we were quite sea sick. Read Less

Yes it was a great price for a suite with other spiffs thrown in. However, Dorian did cause issues. Were were not contacted with final details until 6pm the day before the cruise. Had to be at Jacksonville port between 2 and 6 pm. We would park at Jacksonville port and take a 2.5 hour bus ride port carnival and the cruise would end at Jacksonville port. Okay, not a major deal for us because we were driving. This is our second experience with Carnival not able to handle some bumps in the road during embarkation and disembarkation. We arrived at 1:30pm busses waiting. It’s 95 degrees and outside. It’s was a ridiculous wait. Had several empty busses just sitting there waiting to be loading. You had port security checking boarding passes and Id ( why I have no idea why ....we never entered the port and carnival was checking boarding passes and Id). Obvious no preplanning and no one actually in charge. Busses hold 50 people and carnival staff were trying to figure out how to load the busses. The boat is dated which we expected. Our balcony cabinet was clean and had plenty of room. Had no issues with cabin or steward. Ships’s staff was generally courtesy and helpful on the cruise. Food was below average. The only good meals served were breakfast and guys hamburgers. The buffet served the same meals for lunch and dinner. For three days they served roast beef or prime rib.(I could not identify by looking at it). They served cold baked ham the last day and 2 inch size pieces of fried chicken with little meat and mostly bones. Myself and other cruisers could not determine what part of the chicken they came from. The food in the dining room was boring. Nothing but average diner type selections. The pizza on Carnival is usually good..but not on the Ectasy. The pizza had a little sauce and some cheese and whatever topping you wanted. Pizza was dry. The deli....well I can’t give it more than a two. I ordered a BLT. It was served on sourdough bread. The bread was so tough..it was like biting into a piece of leather. The ship’s design blocks any head winds on the outside decks. If you are at the pool level you will not feel any breeze at all. If you are on the level above the pool area you will not feel any breeze at all. You have to be at the front to the ship to get any kind of breeze. This design does not go well with 95 degree weather. If you outside and not in the pool you will be roasting. The only things that worked great were the bartenders and disembarkation. We were off the ship at 8:30. I don’t recommend this cruise. Read Less

I have been on 3 Carnival Cruises and my wife has been on nearly 10 of them and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had on a cruise. First, I realize that we cannot control the weather but as another person included in their review, our itinerary remained unchanged until late Sunday evening when we were informed we would be going to Key West instead of Princess Kay. No big deal, but then we spent the rest of the cruise on the damn boat. No other ports that we could go to so we spent 4 1/2 days at sea of a five day cruise. Secondly, I will echo another reviewer in stating that the Captain continuously placed us at risk by getting too close to the hurricane. Although the status of our location said we were safely away from the hurricane, there were more than two instances in which the ship was sailed into the green area of the hurricane. On Tuesday morning at 2:00, the ship was rocking so bad from the waves that it literally caused my wife and I to roll in the bed. It kept us up all night, not to mention the kids that were in the room next to us. Sounded like construction going on all night long. Went to guest services, they apologized and said if it continued to let them know. Well guess what, it continued. We called guest services and were placed on hold waiting for someone to answer. And this was at 1:00 in the morning. Still nothing done. There was a strong sewage smell that stayed the entire cruise. We could smell it in our bathroom, down the hallway, on the Lido deck, practically everywhere. The explanation we received was that it was "Sea Water". Sorry, but the only place it smelled like that was actually on the boat. So back to the rough waters of travel. On Wednesday (last day at sea), the waters were so rough that dinnerware was sliding on the tables, deck chairs were sliding on the decks, and chips fell over in the casino at the table I was at. But we were continuously reassured that all was safe. Each day, the Cruise Director and Captain held a Q&A session regarding the status of the cruise and the hurricane. Once we were informed that we would not be going to any other ports after Key West, we were told they were going to add a lot of entertainment on the ship to make up for the missed time from our destinations. If you consider adding trivia games and back/arthritis seminars as added entertainment, then you have different expectations of what entertainment is than I do. One of my biggest complaints of all is the fact that while we were at sea, they never made an announcement or sent a letter to our stateroom to inform us that they provided all the passengers free WiFi so that we could contact our families to let them know we were alright. We found that out from other guests who were at our dining table. Piling on with some of the other reviews on here, we arrived to Port Canaveral and was sent on a charter bus for two hours to the Jacksonville Port after being told multiple times that they were going to extend the cruise until the Port was open. In conclusion, I called Carnival Customer Service today and inquired what they were going to do to satisfy our complaint. I was informed that when we booked, we signed a disclosure that stated Carnival reserves the right to alter the cruise itinerary at their discretion and would not be offering any reimbursement of credit for this cruise. Ultimately, Carnival said screw all of the unhappy guests with the decisions that they made and we are going to keep your money for a cruise that did not reach one destination on the itinerary (Key West was not on the original itinerary), offered nothing more than an apology for the inconvenience, and couldn't care less about the members who have CHOSEN their cruise line. We were planning on taking a family cruise for our family's 10 year anniversary next year but you can rest assured it won't be with Carnival Cruise. Their Customer Service can now be ranked up there with AT&T and Comcast. Read Less

Terrible. Crusty ship. Brown water from bathroom sink. Captain was terrible and kept Sailing up into the bottom of the hurricane causing us to have an unnecessary rough ride. He would find the roughest seas at night so that no one could sleep from the rocking. We were lied to from the get go. They should have canceled the cruise because of the hurricane but they are too money hungry. They kept saying no change to itinerary so that we weren’t able to cancel or change dates without penalty. We didn’t end up going to any ports except lame Key West for only a few hours and there wasn’t enough time to do anything. And to top it all off they refuse to reimburse any money or make it right in any way. They were basically just like oh well too bad. So we paid full price for a trip we didn’t get to take. Didn’t see a beach once. And they also said that if the port to return home was closed they would stay out to sea until it opened.. more lies. They dumped us off at Port Canerval and made us take a 2&1/2 hour bus ride to Jax. NEVER cruising with Carnival again. It’s the sucky low end of cruise ships anyways. Choose a different line. Our cruise experience was doomed from the start. About a week before our cruise hurricane Dorian started forming. As our sale date approached we kept a close eye on the projected path and Carnival‘s website. As it became clear that hurricane Dorian was going to affect the Bahamas we regularly checked in to make sure that our sailing was still happening and we were going to be going to our ports. Our first day on board was relatively OK. We had clear skies and the lunch buffet was actually really good. That’s the only positive statement I have for the entire cruise. Dinner time rolls around and the dining room was horrible. The bread was under baked . Both my steak and their signature dessert (melting cake)was over cooked. The first night the boat was extremely rough. I had hoped that that would be the only rough seas we would experience. Day two was a day at sea. About halfway through the day the captain comes on and informs us that we were not going to make it to princess Cay and that the port will be substituted with a trip to Key West for a half a day. Key West was OK but definitely not the Bahamas. I had hoped to find a beach only to find out that Key West does not offer beaches. While in Key West my sister calls me and informs me that the Carnival corporate website has updated stating that our trip to Nassau for the next day has now been canceled. We went to the service desk and asked what port we would be going to instead of Nassau. Mind you Nassau was the whole reason we booked this cruise. Absolutely love going to Aquaventure at Atlantis. So we were very disappointed to find out that we were not gonna make it to Atlantis. The service desk denied that the port had been canceled and told us that they couldn’t speak to what their corporate website said. They lied to us. As the ship pulled away from Key West the captain came on and informed us that our trip to Nassau had been canceled and no other ports were available so we were going to be getting a third day at sea. I booked a cruise to the Bahamas ! Not a cruise to float at sea for four days and get a half day in Key West. On top of being stuck on that boat our captain insisted on finding every possible patch of rough seas possible. I couldn’t sleep at night because the boat was rocking so bad. Pool lost half of its water from spilling over hitting waves. And the Lido deck buffet we sat there and watch plates fly across the floor. On our final day at sea the captain informed us that there was a chance we would not be able to return to Jaxport on Thursday. The plan initially was to spend an extra day at sea until the port reopened. Dinner time on our last night at sea the captain comes on to inform us that we will be docking in Port Canaveral and receiving shuttle bus rides back to Jacksonville. It’s really sad when we arrived at port Canaveral customs and border protection waived us on through saying we didn’t take a cruise to anywhere so we did not have to declare anything. Our cruise director found it funny to joke about how we were on a cruise to somewhere but he didn’t know where. Carnival really let us down. They should have canceled our sailing knowing that they were not going to be enough ports available to substitute adequately. But they wanted their money. To add insult to injury the whole reason they docked us in Port Canaveral was so that they wouldn’t have to delay their next sailing. I called the customer service line after we got home and they refused offer us any compensation. I always knew in the contract that they could change ports but I never expected them to treat us so poorly. So our beautiful beach vacation to the Bahamas turned into a week of rough seas, never seeing a beach, and never putting on our bathing suits. We took a cruise nowhere and didn’t even make it back to our original destination. At this point I will never cruise with Carnival again. Read Less

I cruised as part of a large group and because of the group I was with had more fun than I have ever had on a cruise. I purchased Faster to the Fun and it was totally worth it. Skipped the line at embarkation, cabin was ready as soon as we boarded, and disembarkation was quick. If I were ever going to cruise Carnival again, I would pay for that. Also, the cruise director Cam was fabulous. I enjoyed the activities, especially the lip synch battle, and the mixology contest. Also had fun at Karaoke and Stripes. That being said, however, the ship itself was a huge disappointment. At such a low price point, I wasn't a luxury cruise, but the ship was not only old, but dirty. One of the public bathrooms on the Lido deck was filthy and I had to go back to my cabin to use the restroom. The entire ship had a noxious odor that was inescapable. The water was undrinkable due to the odor and I ended up spending the $3.75 per bottle water available in the stateroom. There is rust everywhere and wherever you look you are reminded that you are on a budget cruise. The food was merely passable. Nothing exciting. The burgers at Guy's were good but I didn't want that everyday. Ship personnel were not rude, but unlike on other cruises I have taken, they were not friendly either. I would never cruise with Carnival again. I don't feel there is any excuse for allowing a ship in this condition to be put in service. This doesn't speak well for the level of commitment to cleanliness, safety and sanitation they have throughout the fleet. Read Less

I rely heavily on reviews when planning my vacations. I tend to start my trip feeling pretty well informed on the good, bad and ugly to expect. I am also not one to complain and would much rather write a 5/5 review than anything negative. I am going to write todays to hopefully help other first time cruisers be prepared. This is the first time my family of five had been on a cruise ship. We booked to try something new and the price fit our budget well. We had a great vacation and made many happy memories, we enjoyed times on the ship and there were some flaws. I will start with the good. Embarkation/Debarkation and any other typical waiting lines (buffet, shows, guest services) all ran quickly and smoothly for me. I never really felt the crowds kept us from having a good time. We all enjoyed the food. I really enjoyed the breakfast burrito at Blue Iguana and found there was rarely anyone else there so always had quick service. We had the early seating at the Wind Song and I found meals to be good. Our servers were also polite, friendly and helpful. The entertainment kept us busy. My kids had a great time dancing during the parties and always found something to do. Many times we had to choose between one or two activities because they overlapped times. Staff were friendly, I always heard hellos, good mornings and such while walking around. I also always saw staff hard at work cleaning in the early morning. The bad I knew the ship was older and I understood I would see the wear and tear because of that. I just didn't realize how extreme it was. You can definitely see at any area of this ship its age. That said cosmetics are not going to make or break my vacation and we ignored this. My kids did not like the kids clubs (we made them go one morning to try). It may be personality, but my 8 year old stated they made him feel like a baby. My 10 year old said most the video games did not work, and they were not allowed to use the ones that did (age limits), my 16 year old said she was the oldest one there and left right away. We attended a Family Bingo in one of the rooms. Not well set up, a dozen families cramped into a small space, sitting on the floor. Than getting lectured by the cleaning crew because they were blocking doorways. Should have been set up somewhere everyone could fit. People are correct about smells. Not every where and not always. We were on floor 6 near the back of the boat. By day two every time I walked a certain way down the hall to get to our room you would get a garbage smell. By day four there were a few walkways around the pool area that smelled heavily of sewage. The Ugly As I stated I was not going to let the cosmetics of the ship affect our vacation, but it was hard to look past the fact that our bedding was always dirty. Normally I don't have rooms cleaned each day, but for this trip I had housekeeping change things daily. Each day more than one of our five bed linens had stains. This part is on me, I don't like complaining and I hoped each day when they were changed it would be fine. The bugs I could not get past. I fully understand this is an environment where critters can spread easily and its not always 100% fault of the service. When my daughter woke up day 2 covered in spots (she was sleeping in one of the upper bunks) I truly believed it was an allergic reaction. She took allergy meds for the next couple days and we continued on. When night 4 she woke crying that her feet were burning, had more bites and the meds were not helping I knew. I gave her more meds and informed guest services of my concerns. I am not assertive enough, I was asked if she needed medical attention and that was all. The next day was debarkation and we were herded off with no time to return to complain. My poor daughter had more bites, and by this point all of us had a few, but hers were extreme. My entire trip home all I thought of is how they move us out and more in so quickly. Some poor other family or child may end up with the same problem. As soon as I returned home I contacted Carnival on the phone. I felt better that they said they would have the room checked and assessed again and went over the protocol that each room goes through at turn around. Not perfect (obviously) but apparently they try. At least this will help the next family, but did nothing to help my daughter who spent three days of her vacation medicated to stop the itching. Not to mention I am still redoing laundry and quarantined my luggage to be sure we did not bring along these extra souvenirs. So through this all I will say this. Would my family cruise again--I think so Would we use Carnival---I really don't know Will we return to the Ecstasy--Nope Read Less

The bartenders at every single bar I'm not exaggerating were so rude gave you an attitude every single time you order to drink I overheard one of them telling another bartender the good thing about this cruise is it's almost over. Our Room Stewart took our towels out of our Room and never brought them back we were quested new ones never got them twice I asked for them.. My boyfriend ordered a drink at the alchemy bar 1 of the bartenders accidentally hit a drink in the glass shattered and the drink spilled all over me and my boyfriend and she gave us an attitude about it he apologized even though it was her fault and she rolled her eyes I contacted get services and they only offered me a $50 on board Credit. We bought the Cheers program faster to the fun and our tickets and together we spent about 4000 $ on this cruise and we got the worst service I could have imagined we tipped over the gratuity and still got bad service we never saw anyone smile which is unlikely, like I said I have cruised with carnival pleanty of times before. I have video proof and images of the staff being so nasty and rude I will never cruise this ship again and tbh how the customer care lacked to take care of this I doubt I'll ever cruise carnival again. Public bathrooms were always dirty. Hand sanitizer units weren’t displayed well and encouraged to use. People were using water station to fill up their own containers. Juice seemed to be never diluted which made impossible to drink. Comedians weren’t very good. Tea time activity was poor. Didn’t even provide herbal tea except if you asked and they would then charge you $2 without informing you. Flex dining time was disturbing as 30-40 min wait. No speciality restaurant. Option in main dining room on menu but not worth the price. Lack of chicken or turkey bacon and burgers option. Only thing I enjoyed was over 21 serenity section on deck 9 but no one checked and ones under 21 were there all the time. Read Less

We found this cruise and the price was pretty cheap for a short getaway. The ship is in pretty good shape for her age. I want to add that I was all over the ship for five days and never smelled sewage once. We were in cabin U90, a Grand Suite with extended balcony. The dining room and buffet food was less than average. The saving grace was Guy's Burgers and The Blue Iguana. Both are great. We only saw the comedians so I can't comment on the rest of the shows. We enjoyed the comedians. Very funny! We couldn't even get near the pool. It was completely full all day and all night. Kids took over the hot tubs. The hot tubs in Serenity were always full as well. Our cabin steward was wonderful. He always made sure we had everything we needed. The service in the dining room was pretty bad. They didn't seem to want to be there at all. The service everywhere else on the ship was hit or miss. Quite a few of the crew were crabby and acted like they were bothered with having to do their jobs. The biggest complaint I had is that rules are not enforced. Parents let their kids run wild all over the ship unsupervised. Running and screaming in the halls, not using tongs and touching food in the buffet, playing with the ice cream machines. Crew members just watched them do it and said nothing. The kids on this cruise were the worst I've ever seen. I won't do this cruse again. Read Less

I was there for a family anniversary. From the moment I stepped onto the ship I felt welcomed. My stateroom steward was (I Nengah) and he was awesome and very polite. I stayed in the oceanview room with a king size bed. The bed was very comfortable. The food was better each day on the cruise. For dinner time my group had the best servers ( Friska and Imade) I love their energy and was impressed that they remembered all 12 of the names of my family members seated at the table each night. The captain was very friendly and funny! The entertainment was off the charts and had everyone involved. The embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. I love the different photo sessions available each day on the cruise. Me and my fiance went to get a couples massage and it was lovely! I have no complaints and I will return on another cruise through carnival. Read Less

I chose this cruise because I was going with a group of other couples as a couples/family trip. The experience was ok for the most part. This was our 1st cruise bc we mostly fly to our destination of choice. When we got on board we had a hard time finding our room, bc again this was our 1st cruise, the guys at the entrance way asked if we needed help and we told them our room # and one guy just pointed us to the elevators. So when we got on we noticed on the outside there were letters but the inside there were numbers. So we went back and motioned for him to come show us how it worked and again he just pointed to the elevators. So luckily one of the couples we were with showed us how the numbers corresponded with the letters. Ok minor all is well. We go to our rooms to get settled and put our luggage away, when we get a knock on the door and a few seconds later some worker is walking in, talk about invasion of privacy and this happened on several occasions. So then we get finished with the safety review and head to get drinks ( cheers package was already purchased) and food. The guy at the bar seemed very annoyed that we were ordering drinks bc granted it was pretty busy, but he seemed that way throughout the trip. So again we let it go and we started having a good time. Now let's fast forward to the time where I asked for extra cheese on my Guys burger and asked for it to be melted on the grill instead of a cold piece of cheese being thrown on burger and they guy literally rolled his eyes. WOW! So now we get to the end of our 4 day voyage and we get a bill with an additional $55.96 x's 2 for additional "gratuities for your team members". Then once we get home we checked our acct and noticed we were charged for the cheers package twice a total of over $1000 for DRINKS when we have a receipt for $537 total. So bc we were told there would be several holds on our acct we waited to see if the other charges would fall off, they did not so I called Carnival Cruises Customer Service and was informed that one of the charges of over $500 would come off bc it was a hold but the additional $111.92 was there to stay bc we didn't stop by Guest Services to advise them we didn't want to pay the additional for tips. Mind you in the cheers package you are already charged 18%=$82 EACH PERSON for gratuities and now we were charged an EXTRA $111.92. This is a complete rip off and we will NEVER book with Carnival again and will advise any and everyone we know who is thinking of booking Carnival not to do so. The customer service was not all that great and Carnival had the nerve to charge for additional gratuities, what a joke. I am completely not satisfied with this experience at ALL. Read Less

This was my first cruise, and I have to say that everyone I interacted with (with the occasional exception) was truly FANTASTIC! Cam (the Cruise Director) was phenomenal; the bar staff including Lulu, Hery, Luzviminda, Cherrie, Rosita were INCREDIBLE; our room steward Yudi was truly AWESOME; and the entertainment crew including DJ Alter and Bingo Bella were EXTRAORDINARY! I literally have no complaints about the majority of my cruise. The room was slightly aged, but the service made it worth it. The ship showed some signs off wear, but the crew was always cleaning and repairing it. It shows they care about the presentation, so any minor cosmetic defects were easy to overlook. The dining room service was EXCEPTIONAL, and the Guy's Burger and Blue Iguana Cantina were really good. I will say the dining room evening food lacked a little flavor, but with some salt and pepper it was much better. Our family could not be more grateful to everyone for our experience, and we will be returning on another cruise in the future on CARNIVAL. Read Less

So to start this review it must be known that this was my 13th cruise and 3rd on Carnival. I selected Ecstasy because it fit my travel time and location. Embarkation and debarkation was a breeze. That was very good. The ship is outdated which I did not care about. It was the 1st cruise for my adult kids so they didn’t have anything to compare it to. Entertainment was ok. No huge complaint there. Service was good. Everyone nice. My only major complaint was the food. It was bad. I like food more on the bland side but this was bad. No flavor. A lot of food wasn’t warm. We only ate in the dining room once. Meat was dry and lacked flavor. Our only saving grace was the deli. Kids liked the pizza ok. I did somewhat enjoy the lunch tacos. Guys burgers were extremely greasy. I will not sail on Ecstasy ever again. People warned me. They were right. Save your money. Read Less

I enjoyed myself sooo much. embarkation & disembarkation went fairly smooth, I had my birth certificate, and although you didn't need a passport, I highly recommend it, it makes the overall process easier, as well as getting on & off the ship when you are at port. we had an oceanview cabin, it was nice, spacious for the most part & clean. the food was amazing, I didn't try every restaurant like I wanted to, i mostly stayed at Guy's Burger joint, which have the best burgers I've ever had in my life. the entertainment and activities were fun, our cruise caption Cam made my first experience that much more greater, I loved how there were activities to do every hour of the day, you were never left with nothing to do. the staff were amazing, kept cabin neat & clean, everyone was always smiling & willing to help with anything. I'm glad i picked carnival cruise line for my first cruise. already planning my second & third cruises. I'm happy to now be apart of the cruise life. Read Less

This was a quick get away for my husband and I. Thank you jelly, Cam, the cruise director, Blessings, Superda, from Thailand, Danny, Roel, and especially Hery our cabin steward, also Lelia. You guys were great and made our cruise even better. It was a delight to feel so welcome and you went out of your way to ensure that we had fun. There were so many of you and I hope I haven’t forgotten any of you. Thanks Allison for your guidance during shopping. We got held up in DI in The Bahamas and didn’t get all the perks but that’s ok. We will definitely see you again but not on deck 7. Room E66 was not a great choice for us because of all the noise. It’s a party ship Blessings to you all. What an awesome Captain: can park a ship on a dime. Great job!! Never been on a ship where the captain actually got engaged with us and kept us abreast of everything. We am platinum members and this was by far the best cruise ever. Freeport absolutely sucks. Should be dropped from all ports of call. All I saw was containers and junk. Not attractive. Read Less

Do not book a cruise on this ship!!!! It smells of sewage !! Very disgusting !! Although the food and entertainment was decent it wasn't worth dealing with the awful smell thru out the boat. With so many travel options out there why spend your hard earned money on this ship... Also the crew were all very pleasant and always seemed to be working the ship looked tired and worn.. It was difficult to find a clean table in the buffet area.. Although we did see the clean up crew working constantly. Perhaps there was not enough staff.. Anyway beware ! I'm sorry my family and I ignored the negative reviews about this ship.. We just assumed you can't make everyone happy all the time.. But the reviews of the ship smelling of sewage was right on. When we contacted Carnival corporation about our awful experience aboard their smelly ship they couldn't have cared less. Read Less

The cruise was relaxing. We went to Princess Cays, where we got a Sanctuary Bungalow that we enjoyed very much. We weren't fans of the Nassau market off the port since we don't like having all the vendors constantly trying to convince you to go into their shop (or get your hair braided). The food in the MDR was great. We had your-time-dining and only had to wait once. We enjoyed the music shows and went to both showings both times. I wish there had been more of them instead of only two nights. The main reason for my review is to share a warning about room E82, and really all the rooms around there. I had no idea how loud it would be in that room due to the music in the Atrium. I had researched the room beforehand and hadn't seen any warning, so I decided to add my own review afterward so that others would know better. This isn't something that would be better one or two rooms further away. The noise was loud enough that I wouldn't recommend any rooms in the midsection of the Emerald deck at all. I would recommend going with a different deck, or perhaps all the way in the Aft section. Read Less

Where to start... 1. Lines, be ready to wait in a lot of them. From dining, boarding and getting off the ship you will spend 10-15% of your awake time standing in some kind of damn line. Also be prepared to have terrible communication from the cruise director as to where you should ACTUALLY go to stand in line as well as poor planning on how to execute service excellence Examples A. Initial boarding - 15-20 Agents are there to check international travel documentation, rolls through semi smooth. Exiting - Only 7 agents to check documentation, causing major delays in getting off the ship. *important if you have a flight to catch. I’ll also mention you are in a steel building in 100 degree Jacksonville heat with no AC. Dip security personal announces “welcome back to the real world, citing line length and to suck it up”. They already have your money, at this point they don’t care about your experience. 2700 people exiting the ship and only 7 lines. Example B. Dining We went here on our honeymoon and never once got to eat breakfast or lunch together. It’s unorganized lunchroom chaos. You can’t start out in 2 different lines and arrive at your table 20 minutes apart. Example C. Excursions If you are told to be on deck 3 to exit the ship; don’t plan on going to deck 3 and expecting to walk off. The line to exit starts on the deck 4 and wraps down two hallways. Don’t expect a carnival agent to actively be communicating this or managing the lines either. This also pertains to your final exit from the ship as well. It’s not that it’s an oversight; it’s just that they don’t care enough to come up with another system. Additionally, Princess Kays lunch had impossible lines for Hamburgers and hotdogs the entire time we were there. We weren’t going to take an hour out of our time there to stand in that line. We are when we got back on the boat. But seriously, 2700 people in two lines to get hamburgers and hotdogs. 2. The “cheers” package. If you think this is going to be all inclusive , its not. It’s limit of 15 alcoholic drinks a day (does not apply on the carnival owned Princess Kays island either, you are paying full price there). This is somewhat expected however here at the ‘extra’ limitations. A. If you are an early riser and would like a coke product or an energy drink in the morning; don’t expect to get it before 8am. Additionally, expect to wait in a separate line if you want a coke with your lunch. *Most important, they won’t give you a unopened (single can) of coke to add ice to and drink in the morning before the bar areas open. I had to ask for a supervisor after my wife requested one for me and got shot down. B. “I’d like a double” is taboo with Cheers. They don’t have the capability of pouring more than one shot at a time. You have to wait 5 minutes and get back in the line and wait for another shot to be added to your glass. Lines vary, but expect a double of liquor to take 15-20 minutes total. Additionally you can not pay extra for a double.m205 3. Beach chairs and pool size Chairs are less than an inch apart from each other on the ship and at the carnival resort. Expect to be right on top of one another and to see many people trip trying to navigate between them. If you don’t like crowds, then you will never swim in the pool. It’s filled to capacity most hours of the day. It’s roughly 1/4 of an Olympic pool size for 2700 guests. 4. Entertainment Pro- Actually really good music Cons- Emphasis on jewelry purchases and art auctions. A lot of emphasis on this. Comic/magician from Chicago was terrible. 5. Broken elevators, 2700 guests. Do the math. 6. Beds are similar to those you’ll find in a camper. 7. Dinners were all actually really good; with great service. Everything is loud. Like REALLY loud. Don’t expect to communicate with other guests if you are a stones throw from any entertainment venue. 8. Carnival rates the ship for 2056 passengers (guests). We were told 2700 were exiting the ship. We departed from Jacksonville, FL and went to Nassau and Freeport. We left Thursday afternoon and returned early Monday morning. My friend and I are both wheelchair users. In order to help preserve the health of my shoulders, I rented a motorized scooter and left my chair in the room as I used the scooter to get around on the ship and for land excursions. The wheelchair accessible room we had was SO small. It clearly didn't start off as a w/c accessible room but rather it was updated to be up to ADA code at some point. Both of our wheelchairs and scooter didn't fit in the room so my wheelchair had to spend the entire time on the balcony. Not exactly the end of the world but it was an inconvenience and a surprise that an ADA room was not big enough to accommodate 3 mobility devices. If my wheelchair wasn't taking up room on the balcony and I was able to get out in the balcony it would have been impossible because like I mentioned, it used to be a regular room. The original layout had about a 1-2 inch lip leading out to the balcony which they "fixed" by affixing a piece of plywood to create a "ramp". It was the same deal with the bathroom. Completely unsafe and difficult to navigate. Regarding the bathroom, the toilet was VERY low which is a safety hazard for someone who is paralyzed. There is a reason why wheelchair accessible toilets are up so high. The beds were another issue. We literally SUNK into the bed. It was like being in a waterbed. It was difficult to roll over and even to sit up from laying down and neither issue was due to our disabilities. One other thing was the location of the thermostat for temperature control in the room. It thermostat was ON THE CEILING. In a WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE ROOM. What were we supposed to do? Fly to the thermostat? Our room was freezing so we call guest services and they said they'd be right up. So we waited a while as we realize we're not the only disabled passengers on the ship. When a half hour passed by they were like "OMG we are so sorry. We'll be right there." Well, "we'll be right there" was another half hour. VERY poor planning on Carnivals part on placing the thermostat on the ceiling Carnival REALLY needs to up their game when it comes to making their staterooms wheelchair accessible like their website says. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. Our room was U224 just to warn you. As far as the rest of the cruise it was fine. Super friendly people and wonderful employees. Our waiting staff in the dining room were awesome and always provided a fun dinner. Read Less

We sailed on the Carnival Elation out of Jacksonville on September 5th, 2016. We chose Jacksonville because it is an easy drive for us, no airfare required. The Elation is an older ship that has been renovated. We had no complaints with the ship. It's not quite as large as most of the newer Carnival ships, with approximately 2,000 passengers and 900 crew. Swimming pool is rather small and often crowded. Our cabin was clean and roomy enough for us. We had an ocean view cabin on Deck 7 / Empress deck, it was nice being on Deck 7 since it is closer to dining, shows, bars, pool, everything, in fact. than the lower decks. We were pleased with the food and dining, for the most part. Breakfast and lunch buffets were mostly the same each day. Dinner provided a good bit of variety and the service was quite good with only one exception. We were disappointed that many (but not all) of the vocals in the "live" shows, were lip-synced. This was a departure from what we had seen in previous Carnival live shows. We were also disappointed that one of the performers was pretending to play a guitar during the "Epic Rock" show, which he was obviously faking. The one comedy act we saw was really funny. His name is Jimmy Carroll and we were both laughing out loud. His ad libs were even funnier than his jokes. We visited Nassau on foot, on our own, and found it was a quick and relatively easy walk to Queen's Staircase and Fort Fincastle. We also enjoyed a brief visit to the Bahama Historical Society Museum on the way. All for free! Half Moon Cay was a blast, great swimming beach and loved the "Shipwreck Bar". The "Beach BBQ" was no great shakes, hamburgers, hot dogs and marinated chicken. Nice gym with good views out of the front of the ship. The casino was smoky at times, we'd love to find ships that are completely smoke free! We were also disappointed that the $10 Blackjack tables only pay 6 to 5 for Blackjack, so there is no advantage to playing the $10 table vs. the $6 table. You have to play $15 minimum Blackjack to get the 3-to-2 payout that should be the norm. We only used room service one time for late night sandwiches, they were delivered in about 20-25 minutes and were pretty good. Read Less
