Incredible, excursion-packed trip with NO at-sea days
"Pros: great staff, comfortable cabins/beds/showers, a great spa, good food quality, no at-sea days (on our cruise), decent excursions, a decent amount of tv channels and movies, internet included in the price for all guests, one free excursion at each port, free room service, limited free drinks and snacks in the room (water, soda, juice, nuts and chocolate bars) and a free alcoholic drink with lunch and dinner.Lots of seafood, sushi, and other meats from which to choose, including MTO meats and other dishes, and they did their best to keep the buffet as germ-free as possible (but there will always be at least one person who reaches into the pile of cookies with their bare hands, or the guy who blows his nose while in line, then handles the serving utensils!..."Read More

Incredible, excursion-packed trip with NO at-sea days

Review for a Europe - Eastern Mediterranean Cruise on Viking Star

We chose this cruise because of the many ports and countries, and ZERO at-sea days. Our primary reason for cruising is to see as much as we can, off of the ship. Viking delivered. The food was great for the most part, though we thought the Chef's Table was overrated, and much preferred Manifredi's. The buffet was pretty good, with only a few dishes that we didn't care for. Lots of seafood, ...

traveled as a single with another couple. The food was great, the tours were great, the size of the ship was great. The crew was friendly and efficient, My only issue was that as a single person who had paid double I had hoped to find other single on the cruise but did not,as a result iI did feel awkward and I am sure that it did flavour my enjoyment of the trip. The included airfare was very ...

The Explorer Cafe was our favorite place to hang out.

We chose Viking because we had a great experience with Viking three years ago on a Rhine cruise. The cabin was beautiful, but there was nightly work being done on the deck above our cabin that woke us up almost every night. We complained, but it still happened. Also, upon boarding we had difficulty finding our cabin. When we boarded the river cruise, there was a crew member escorting every ...

We wanted to visit Istanbul and Italy and we picked a cruise that would allow us to travel between Turkey and Italy. We specifically selected Viking because they are the BEST! Best food, best service, best ships, best crew, best itinerary, best on board experience and best schedule. Did I mention that Viking is the BEST! Every aspect of our cruise was a wonderful experience. The "basic" ...

As a history buff, my husband had a desire to visit Troy and Istanbul. I was not comfortable visiting that part of the world. When I saw the Viking cruise from Istanbul to Venice, I knew that would be the way to get him where he wanted to go. We booked almost 2 years in advance. Unfortunately, our trip was scheduled about a week after the bombing in the market in Istanbul. So, the ship did not ...

This was our first cruise and we were not disappointed. What a fabulous ship! We had not really been interested in cruising in the past as most ships looked more suited to younger cruisers, or like floating clubs, but Viking has changed all that. This ship embodies the best of Scandinavian design. Rooms were quite spacious....even heated floors in the bathrooms, and all rooms have balconies. ...

We have enjoyed the Viking River cruises, and trusted Viking to please us once again on this new ocean cruise. They did not disappoint! Although we were greatly unhappy that the tour of Istanbul had to be cancelled (our main reason for choosing this cruise), we loved all the other ports of call and excursions. We consider every aspect of Viking cruising of 5-star caliber, and Empires of the ...

We arrived in Istanbul several days early to explore the city with the three other couples in our group, using Tours by Locals online in advance of the trip to find a guide. This was our fifth cruise, but our first on Viking. We had a wonderful experience, with great food at all venues and uniformly excellent service from all staff members. This ship is beautiful, and even our "deluxe ...

Fantastic time

This was our first 'ocean' cruise. We had avoided cruises because of the size of the ships and the impression we had of people being herded. The Viking Star was a great size - only about 800 people on our cruise. We began with the pre-cruise extension to Gallipoli and Troy. First class accommodations and an excellent guide. We were unable to go back to Istanbul. Viking had made the wise decision ...

Delightful Cruise

Beautiful ship, friendly staff, excellent food. Never seemed crowded with only about 900 guests. Everything went smoothly. Stateroom was top notch. Don't think I'd ever go on a large cruise ship again after going on the Viking Star. It was a luxurious experience. Even the public restrooms were first class. There are plenty of common areas, beautifully decorated in Scandinavian style. ...
