When reading the Hurtigruten publicity for the refitted Trollfjord you would expect to find an exquisite small cruise ship, what you get is an overcrowded cheaply converted coastal ferry. The standard cabins are small with low cost fittings. Our bathroom cabinet didn’t close and the shower fitting fell to bits. The bed was uncomfortable. We chose the cruise on MS Trollfjord after seeing an article in a women's magazine the previous year. It was a Northern Lights cruise with Wildlife. Michael Strachan was on the ship for a few days which was an added attraction. I always wanted to go to the top of the world in the middle of winter, it was a wonderful experience. This is a once in a lifetime trip to see the northern lights, and also experienced complete darkness for more than a week while above the Arctic Circle. We enjoyed our cruise from Bergen to Kirkenes very much. We did not opt for an upgraded cabin. The standard cabin was fine for sleeping and showering. We did opt for a window. We were on the port side, and my spouse could hear noise when the shipped docked and left at night. The scenery is great and changes constantly and there is a lot to see from either side of the ship.
