1-10 of 29 Hurtigruten Nordlys Cruise Reviews for Gay & Lesbian to Norwegian Fjords
we chose to travel on Hurtigruten Bergen-Kirkenes-Bergen because many years ago my in laws did the same trip and said it was the best trip they had ever done, and if we ever found ourselves in Norway we should do it too!
Well, we found ourselves in Norway....
Firstly it is not a cruise in any sense, but a working ferry. Do your research before you book. Our cabin was fine - but basic - the ...
This was a "bucket list" item, to see the coastal scenery of Norway.
Every day had an almost endless abundance of raw natural beauty, with many jaw dropping moments, whether it was the midnight sun bursting from behind cloudy/moody mountains, majestic views of hundreds of miles of partially snow-clad mountains and fjords, or Orca gently gliding through a bay.
The food exceeded all ...
We were so grateful for the great time we had on board - thanks to the cruise team we had the holiday of a lifetime!
There was absolutely nothing to complain about, but many points to praise:
+ the staff were always cheerful, friendly, hardworking and efficient - they really made you feel welcome and showed genuine interest to make this holiday the best experience you could have
+ very ...
We had seen this cruise advertised in the newspapers quite a lot and knew several people who had been on it. This one is different from other cruises as the ship has a schedule to meet to fulfil its obligations to the Norwegian government. We liked the idea of stopping at ports several times a day (and night!) and seeing lots of different places.
We booked through ROLCruise and the price ...
We hoped to see the Aurora and experience the stunning arctic scenery. We chose the 7-day Northbound cruise with flights back to the UK from Kirkenes.
The prices for the excursions were very high, nevertheless we chose the dog-sledding as an experience of a lifetime. It lived up to expectations. The 'Cathedral tour' at one town though, was priced at over £100pp - we decided to walk the half ...
Even though we saw them on 3 nights, be aware - Northern lights are NOT coloured to the naked eye.
If your cabin is on the gangway side you get woken in the middle of the night with all the stops. Not enough to do on board except sit in the lounge area, some good talks and films. Board games available.
The gangway area and walk path to coaches were not treated, so snow and ice v. ...
We wished to see the Norweigan coast. Even though the price was high, it is a ferry. People without sleeping accommodations sleeping all over seating areas. Food quite diverse but very good. The buffet breakfast and lunch are like fish feeding frenzies . Ran out of popular items. Other than for two servers the meal service was horrible. Very short staffed. Also bad timing for one of the lunches, ...
• Background Information
We are a retired couple who have travelled a great deal; however, we’d never done a cruise being put off by the thought of thousands of people on the same vessel. A fellow traveller recommended Hurtigruten after doing one on MS Lofoten. We liked the idea of a smaller ship without the nonsense of casinos, bars, and stage shows.

We chose this cruise because it advertised exactly what we were looking for and wanted something special to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary. It surpassed all of this. Embarkation and disembarkation was a very smooth event. Staff were helpful and friendly at all times during the voyage, The expedition team were fabulous, keeping us constantly informed with points of interests and gatherings. ...
So the ship is a working ferry and it desperately needs a refurbishment. Scuffed carpet, stuffing coming out of chairs in the lounge etc. Coffee machines that don't work. The ship made roughly 20+ stops but most of them are for only 15 minutes so you cannot get off. I was able to get off in Alesund (gorgeous), Bodo (gorgeous), Trondheim (gorgeous) and Tromso (gorgeous) and Honningsvag (gorgeous). ...
