Enjoyable but weather didn't help

Review for a Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Kong Harald

We chose a 12 day cruise that took us from Bergen up to the Russian border and back. Bad weather intervened on the return journey so we were stuck on board for most of the time and there's not much to do other than read, gaze out at snowy mountains, doze and eat. We would choose a shorter trip next time and fly back from Kirkenes. Snowmobiling at Kirkenes was brilliant helped by glorious ...

Not a cruise, more an excursion with benefits

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Kong Harald

We wanted to celebrate my 70th birthday, to put behind us a challenging year, and to learn about a country and locality that we wouldn't normally see. The first thing to say is that if you like cruising with all the associated comforts and amenities of cruising, don't choose the Hurtigruten Atlantic Fiords trip. The business of Hurtigruten is to supply all of the large and small coastal ...

We went to try and see the northern lights which luckily for us did make an appearance on at least 2 nights of our trip. Embarkation and disembarking work really well especially embarkation. The expedition team on board were fantastic. Bjørn, Robin and Caterina worked well together and Caterina is very knowledgeable, the Norwegian way times were informative interesting and amusing with Bjørn and ...

A "Must" if you want to see the Northern Lights!

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Otto Sverdrup

This Cruise has been on our "Bucket List" for the past ten years. Earlier this month we eventually boarded the Hurtigruten, Finnmarken and was pleasantly surprised. Being under the impression that this is a "working" ship, we found the amenities being similar and equal to that of other "Commercial/Passenger Liners. Calling at most of the small towns on the Coast Line, makes this a ...

A newbie's impressions

This was our first experience of a cruise proper (we had previously sailed to New York on the Queen Mary II). We went principally as a way, we hoped, of seeing the Northern Lights. We were most unfortunate in that the weather was not very good - rain and low cloud plus strong winds. However, we did see the Northern Lights on three occasions although they were a little weaker than ...

An enjoyable experience overall. Staff polite and friendly. Food good but after a few days became much of the same. But healthy and lots of choice Excursions expensive. Take care with Bodo and Saltistrumen one unless you know the tides will allow you to see the advertised and talked about Maelstrom. We got there and water calm as provervial millpond A rush to get excursions in as stops are ...

Thoughts on our trip

We enjoyed our cruise very much. It was very good for the liver as alcohol prices were so high we hardly touched a drop, and given the Norwegian economy, the same can be said for all the excursions. However, having said that, we had wonderful R&R, saw the Northern Lights in all their glory, saw a bit of local life and enjoyed the fabulous scenery. Of the ship itself, the food was amazing, the ...

My husband chose this cruise for my birthday as I had always wanted to see the Northern Lights. Unfortunately we didn't see them but the cruise was really good. The places we visited were unique and the people were so friendly. The snow was amazing and the views from the ship really spectacular, even at 3 in the morning! We would like to do a cruise again maybe in the springtime to see the ...

Very enjoyable cruise!

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Nordkapp

I choose this cruise as it was apart of a bigger tour that I was on, the boat itself is pretty much as I expected from what I read and all the information I had received prior. I am not actually a cruise person I do not enjoy the big boats as I feel you never have enough time on land to experience the country you are in. This cruise however was more for the scenery hence why I decided to ...

Review of my 7 days Northern Lights Voyage with Hurtigruten's MS Trollfjord, January 2019. Northbound from Bergen to Kirkenes - Arctic Circle crossing, Polar night, Northern Lights, North Cape, Dog Sledding, and Kirkenes Snowhotel. Hurtigruten is operating 11 vessels along the Norwegian West Coast - daily departures from Bergen to Kirkenes and return (total of 11 nights). It was not a ...
