We just arrived home from seven day cruise in Hawaii aboard the Pride of America. We were so excited to board as this was to be the trip of a lifetime. Boarding the ship was very easy and within a couple of hours of boarding our stateroom was ready. We had a room with balcony on the 10th floor. Oddly our balcony had walls on each side hindering the view. The room is small but room enough for two. Storage is limited. Drawers difficult to open and shelves dusty. Definitely need some upgrading of the rooms. We had booked adjoining rooms as we were travelling with friends. Thinking our balconies would be adjoining as well but were disappointed to find they were not. Food was mediocre. Both complimentary dining rooms serve the same menu. Aloha cafe is dingy and very crowded. Entertainment was good. We only seen our room Stewart once and that was because I had to contact him with an issue. Often there were odours throughout the ship that I don’t even want to know what it might be. Most ports the ship is docked at cargo units. Not much of a view to enjoy. They seem to like to do repairs and maintenance on the ship when docked in port. Doesn’t make for quiet relaxation on balcony. Always noisy. We received a notice one day they would be painting balconies and workers would be entering through staterooms. They announced on a Tuesday they were skipping our next port call in a Kona due to minor mechanical issue. Not to worry though each stateroom got a $50 credit. Wow! Please do not book this cruise. It just is not worth it. Read Less

Don't bother going on this cruise liner...…...staff were very good on the whole but nothing else was!!!!! FOOD - no diabetic or low calorie choices, even the packet breakfast cereal was high sugar. Bread was stale, fruit and vegetables not ripe. We arrived at 6pm for dinner and they had just opened the casual dining café....the food was cold!!!! even the French fries were cold?????!!! PAID FOR DRINKS PACKAGE - but each drink was taxed so even if you chose a drink below the stated $15.00 limit once they added tax and service charges you ended up with a charge on your account. SMOKING AREA- only one for the whole ship....and it is a big ship! The area allocated was small, hard to get to for older passengers or those with disabilities or those not good climbing two lots of stairs with buffeting winds as it was aft and on deck 13, totally unprotected from the elements!!! CABIN- LAYOUT & SIZE OK. Rooms were not ready till approx 4.30pm. Our balcony door could not be locked and on one night because of rough seas I had to get up 6 times/ grab the curtain pull it back inside the cabin and shut the door. I was travelling with my elderly mother who attempted to do this when it first happened and she fell and could have SUSTAINED A SERIOUS INJURY AT 87 YEARS OF AGE! When I rang guest services there was no answer although I tried several times to report the faulty door. The next morning I went to guest services and complained....late that afternoon a workman came to replace the locks and stated he had been VERY BUSY AS MANY DOORS HAD TO BE FIXED!!! Towels and sheets were not changed throughout the 7 days. Toilet broke down on the second day and was not fixed till late that afternoon approx 4pm so had to access the public toilets all day!!!! Hand basin plug not functioning and could not drain the water out of handbasin. Again was not fixed till late that afternoon. LIBRARY - unable to get library books out on weekends and only after 5pm weekdays....what? most people want to sit on deck , relax, lap up what little sunshine we got and read a book IN THE DAY TIME??????? And as we were stuck at sea it would have been nice to get a book and read for the day as there was nothing else to do!!! ENTERTAINMENT - very poor, stuck at sea for two full days, unable to dock anywhere and no extra entertainment organised to help pass the time. The shows we did see were amaturish and short (one only just over half an hour). No movie theater or big screen. PORT & SHORE EXCURSIONS - We were suppose to dock in six ports and got to call into two apart from Honalulu were we joined the cruise........ Read Less

We are so disappointed in NCL. First they cut the cruise from 7 to 6 days, less than 2 weeks before embarkation. Promised to refund 1 day's cost. Have only received $10.87. Cancelled my shore excursions due to itinerary change. Have not refunded my $408 and seem to have no recollection of the excursions but do show a payment. Huh? Was refused entry to the Aloha Buffet because I was wearing a tank top looking bathing suit top. Was wearing shorts, shoes, and socks and had on more clothing than most at the buffet. Had a flood in our bathroom. Said we could move to another cabin but never followed up.Cabin steward said they sent a plumber to clean drains. We waited 3 hours but never saw one. Said they came while we were at dinner. Situation improved slightly but continued to flood with every shower. Sent to a hotel, not of our choosing. Only assistance at hotel from NCL were 2 women with signs pointing to registration. Were not able to assist with getting a wheelchair for my husband. Luggage was not delivered in a timely manner and when I went to check, I was told if I though I could get it faster I could go get it myself and directions to find it. I went there and a lovely woman from the hotel helped me find my luggage. I hauled them to our room, my self. Not acceptable. Calls to NCL have given us no results. Told me to put it in writing on-line and that it will take 15 business days for a reply. Never again!!. They are holding over $1200 of our money and don't seem to be willing to return it Read Less

I went on the Pride of America for one reason only, it went out of Honolulu and didnot have to be at sea for 3 days from LA. If you didn't do daily excursions you literally died of bordem. The daily activities had no substance to them. Very few educational lectures. Making things out of beads was not on are list of things to do. Thank God for great excursions. Found the young staff working in the buffet to be sub-standard and had to be on them to get anything done. Go on Princess to Hawaii. I have never ever before paid to use a steam and sauna. The hot tubs were cold. There are more food places you have to pay for than ever before. I found the ships stores to be small and lack of good inventory. We were use to much better over all customer service. Tired of being nickeled and dimed to death. On Princess, the coffee bar on deck 5 you paid for the coffee and the pastry was no charge. Not on NCL. Now there is a special ice cream place on deck 11 that charges you through the nose. We have decided no more cruises. we will go back to land trips. Barry Zuckerman Read Less

We were told by several people that Norwegian was a good cruise line and this was a great itinerary. It was a great itinerary. Imagine what it feels like to pay $4700.00 for a cruise, flying to Oahu, presenting Boarding documents and ID, and being denied boarding, accused of wrong doing and physical intimidated by a Sumo wrestler looking security guard. Also my wife is 75 years old and I am 72. We are both physically disabled and walk with a cane. We arrived they first tried to put us in an ocean view cabin. No explanation, no excuses or anything. Then they wanted us to move to another area why they tried to sort it out. We refused since by then we had already waited half and hour. When I repeatedly asked to speak to the supervisor I was told to sit down and be quite. In the meantime we had no idea where our luggage had gone to or how this might get resolved After more than two hours Bianca Cincu told us we had the option to leave or take the ocean view cabin. She said they had sold our cabin to someone else and that they could not contact their home office to clear up their doubts about our reservation. They promised that we would get the first balcony that might open up but no promises. The ocean view cabin was surrounded by college students who were running around knocking on each others doors and ours until all hours of the night. The following afternoon around 3:00pm the said they had a balcony for us from someone who had to go in for surgery. She said we could keep to water they had purchased. There was not any apology or anything offered inconsideration of what we had experienced. The new balcony was right next to the elevator doors so each evening we heard the drunks waiting for the elevators. We wrote up a compliant and personally put it in Bianca Cincu's hands on the third day of the cruise but we never received any response what-so-ever. The food was below par in main dining rooms and the service in the level five dining room was poor. The staff did not know the basics and seemed like they really did not like what they were doing. We complained and did get better service in the level six dining room but the food was still bad. It tasted like greasy spoon food. The Bistro, a specialty restaurant, was ala carte. They served a crab appetizer that was awful. I took one bite and called over the Maître D who told me it was canned crab. The food in the cafeteria, upper level dining, was not bad. We have been on about 27 cruises at this point on five different cruise lines. All of them had better food and while some were not perfect but every time there was a problem they made some effort to apologize and make things whole or at least better. This is the worst experience we have ever had and there has been no apology and nothing to offset what we experienced. For some reason NCL seems to think we did something wrong. All we did was ask for a supervisor after being denied boarding on the cabin we booked and paid for. Read Less
