I chose this cruise because of the destinations ie Vietnam and Australia. I had read some poor reviews before taking this cruise on Sun Princess but I gather it’s mostly people who like a whinge who write reviews. I believe in trying it and see for yourself. Yes the ship is getting old but we loved every bit of this ship. From the atrium to the 24 hour cafe to the Marquis dining room and especially the hot dog burger bar on deck 14. The food was excellent and covered everyone’s tastes. Some people complained the evening entertainment was too short but I found 45minutes long enough especially if you were on the late sitting for your evening meal. If you want a table for two for dining you should book the fixed dining restaurant and book the table before cruising. If you are in the other restaurant you just wait for a few minutes for a table to become free. I found no one upmanship regarding ‘elite’ guests. On the contrary the two couples on our table hid the fact. We took 3 cruise organised tours and they were excellent. The Ho Chi Min city tour was rather expensive but we had no choice as there were no other means of getting there. The ship docks at a container port miles from anywhere. The stewards were excellent and went out of their way to please you. We had an amazing time. We made many friends who added to our enjoyment of the cruise. I didn’t think the drinks were expensive. Much the same price as I would pay at home. Remember when $13 dollars for a glass of wine is quoted this in Australian dollars. And yes I can buy a bottle of wine from Aldi for the same price as a glass on the ship but you’re drinking it on a beautiful ship like the Sun Princess. Loved it! Read Less

This was our 37th cruise and 10th on RCCL. By far, the ship was the biggest disappointment we have ever had and not up to the standards we have come to expect from RCCL. Voyager of the Seas is heading for drydock next year but by the looks of her, she should have been there last year. * The hull is a patchwork of rust and paint. Usually, they paint them so much that it always looks beautiful. * The carpet in the hallways is dirty and has numerous holes where luggage is left. * The public restroom floor baseboards were gross. There are not enough restrooms in public areas which results in long lines after events. The entertainment was lacking. The productions shows are always wonderful and the Broadway in the Movies was especially great, with numerous costume changes throughout. And the skating shows are always amazing considering the small ice surface and the movement of the ship. Other than that, the theater shows were lacking. One juggler (?) just thought it amusing to continually drop things. The comedian was not funny and the singer from the Philippines was fine but not very entertaining. Many people walked out of all of these shows before the end. We traveled from Hong Kong to Singapore. It was disappointing not to have any speakers to help us learn about that fascinating part of the world during our sea days. Our cabin had no coffee table so the only place to eat was on the balcony. Unfortunately, it was so hot we had to rush to eat and then run back in. Then where are we to leave our room service tray?!? I'm not sure where anyone could eat in an inside cabin. The dining room staff is obviously overwhelmed. We asked for a table of 2 but were assigned a table of 9. The tables are so squished together that the staff has trouble serving. One couple was consistently 15-20 minutes late and then the staff would slow our service for them to catch up! And the food was just plain boring and awful. For example, the JUMBO fried shrimp was 4 very small pieces with rice. They could be swallowed in one bite...that is not JUMBO! The Windjammer was JAMMED! There's lots of food stations which is great and it's huge but we struggled every time to find a place to sit. Overall, I would describe this cruise as very disappointing. We were in a wonderful part of the world and we would have appreciated enrichment and entertainment that reflected Southeast Asia and enhanced our trip. We know RCCL can do much better! Read Less

This cruise and the two following cruises on June 1 and June 6 were booked as an offering by Cruise 1st on a back to back basis, AND SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN OFFERED TO UK CUSTOMERS. The whole ship, including the food, and entertainment, was designed and set up to cater for Chinese and other Asian guests, NOT US. SIMPLY NOT UP TO STANDARD AND VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING. Noise level on board and in the Windjammer totally unacceptable from the 4000 Chinese guests. We only found out about an english menu being available at HongKong airport on the way home from other miserable UK guests who, like us had to wait for 11 hours minimum to get the flight home. This menu was never offered to us in any of the 4 restaurants and consequently we did not know of its existence. I managed to get a ships wheel chair for my partner who has limited mobility but when we got back to HongKong at the end of the first leg we were refused permission to take it off the ship to re-board in Shenzhen. THREFORE WE REFUSED TO GET OFF. So we stayed on whilst the ship was moved along with another couple. We did not need our Chinese visas at all AND ALL THE BRITISH GUESTS WHO HAD THE TRAUMA OF GETTING OFF AND ON COULD ALL HAVE STAYED ON BOARD AND NOT BE DISTURBED. SOME EVEN HAD TO CHANGE CABIN. We all had to attend three safety assemblies conducted in Chinese, get three boarding passes, and register our credit cards three times, ALL TOTALLY UNNECESSARY WITH GOOD ORGANISATION AND WE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DISTURBED IN THIS WAY. . The trips off the ship were badly over-priced and I really object to paying USD 14.15 for a single glass of red wine. When we got to Okinawa for an overnight stay on-board the shuttle bus from the ship into the city centre was only advised as running on the evening of arrival AND NO MENTION OF THE NEXT DAY. This would have meant getting off the ship close to darkness. I managed to find out that this was not true and that the shuttle was running the next day and changed my tickets. SOME OF YOUR UK CUSTOMERS WERE REFUSED THIS CHANGE WHEN THEY ASKED TO DO SO. The two theatre performances that we attended were so poor that we walked out both times and never came back. Typical example of the poor food is that when a roast joint was made available there was only gravy, mint jelly and mashed potato available to have with it. No roast potatoes yorkshires, and cooked vegetables, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Most days any chips on offer were stone cold in seconds, and of the type offered by Macdonalds, SIMPLY NOT ACCEPTABLE. Retired couple with 20 + cruises many different cruise lines: Second time on the Jewel. Just OK. Food all restaurants greatly improved over last Jewel cruise (2014). Garden Buffet expanded in more and better entree selections. Le Bistro still our favorite. Proper cleanliness throughout the ship - male thermal suite always maintained well. Entertainment fair to poor. Same shows as 4 years ago. Music way to loud all venues. (When asked to pipe down upon port arrival [so we could enjoy Japan's Pier Greeting Performance by musicians and dancers] the topside pool musicians said no because its in our contract. Ruined the arrival for many.) This being an Orient cruise only 1 local entertainment brought on board although we ported at 8 different piers. Most disappointing. Cabin bedding terrible -- Norwegian changed mattresses for us and still could see the slump in the beds. Felt like sleeping in a hammock. Service charges are non-stop. Though our service charges were paid up front, still hit up with charges every time we orderrd a drink, food, or activity. These are a major rip off for all cruisers. Unusually long waits for NCL sponsored Destination Tours, and long lines on-board to book these tours. Do so before sailing. Read Less

Great ship that is well maintained, with lots to do especially if you are young and mobile. We are still on this ship headed to Sydney, and in an inside cabin again which we will never do again because of the toilet flushing noise which is a design fault, but they do offer you ear plugs. On the cruise out of Hong Kong we were on level 10 below the kids club which resulted in us being unable to go back to the cabin during the day with the kids jumping and running around, and of course the toilet flushing that occurs during waking hours starting at about 5.00am - we complained a few times and were moved to a quite balcony cabin. This time, and for the last time, in an inside cabin again - no issues with other ships, but the Ovation has a major design flaw with the plumbing !! Very friendly staff, especially the Captain, Hotel Director, waiters and even our stateroom attendant which I met after 6 days. Would book again on this ship, but not an inside cabin - so diminishing value for money. Read Less

wanted to see Vietnam and bangkok both spoilt by very poor admin.Unless you fold napkins, dance, play trivia there is no daytime activities as they only take about 20 peoplefor water class eg, In Singapore 3000 diamond members got on the ship and think they own it and just took over all bars in the evening wher we had a drink before dinner, We missed our day trip n Bangkok because of bad organisation costing us $500 out of pocket as I cant use the ship tours and plan my own. It was a disgrace we were treated getting off in all ports ecept Adelaide and Hobart. The food was not up to the standard we expect fro RCCL, I use a scooter and there was only 2 spots in the theatre for disabled and from Singapore there a lot got on with wheelchairs, scooters, walkers so was very hard to get to the shows unless which is what we did line for over 1 hour to get a spot. The ship is far too big and very badly managed. we are emerald after this trip but no way will we get any higher as we will not travel RCCL again back to Princess for us where you get treated more like a human. Also the drinks are so expensive $17 US fpr aglass of wine in the dining room.the waiters we had would not get a job in the local RSL here. wrong dinners served many times. So to sum up never again on Ovation Read Less

After 7 years this was my first cruise on Silversea again. Food was outstanding, crew fantastic. I did not try Le Champagne. Food in La Terrazza, main dining room and Pool grill was just great. We had to cancel on port cause of bad weather but I think it was a wise decision cause of safety reasons. Yes the ship does need some refurbishment but it is still a beautiful ship. The crew was absolutely fantastic. I never heard anyone saying no to a request or a question. The few shore excursions I've attended have been really good. Especially the trip to the Railway and Floating Market outside of Bangkok. My cabin was great as always and my butler and room attendant did everything they could to make my stay another memorable one. I loved it so much I will be back on the Shadow in February 2018 cruising again South East Asia. Read Less

cruise review 1.the food in windjammers was terrible ,the same boring pub style food everyday. There should have been far greater verity.ie more soups styles from Vietnam (pho) fresh spring rolls, some seafood. 2.terrible embarkation at Hong Kong, not organised, staff had no idea what they were doing, its only our good fortune that we are experienced cruisers and knew that photos had to be taken as many passengers got to the security check and were told to go back and get photos 3.poor entertainment on board, no bands on deck during the day. 4. poor selection of free movies in cabin. 5.ran out of drinks and food. 6. ports were toooooo far from towns ho chi minh was a minimum of 2 hours each way, hoi an / Danang also a minimum of was 2 hours each way. 7. the first day should have been refunded as most passengers did not get on board until 9 pm and then had to do a safety drill at 10.15pm this was NOT a "cruise" day.it was a joke. your company should NOT have allowed the previous days cruise out of Hong Kong to Shenzhen just to make more money on gambling from the Chinese, this was at our expense as we were the passengers that suffered the inconvenience just so RCCL could make a buck. we complained twice to guest services only to be given the company line that there is nothing they can do and NO compensation would be offered. (only the standard bottle of wine rubbish that we get every time RCCL is at fault.) 8. there is no beer or wine package offered only the ultimate at $65us a day 9. the spa,s in the adult area ...most of the jets were not working many persons complained that they had paid good money like everyone else and should be able to use the spa. 10. sapphire dining room was way under staffed and the were very long waits to be served, and also a couple of the drink waiters were Chinese and had no knowledge about drinks, eg asked for Stella and got Amstel. 11.in general the ship needs a lot of maintenance and should be taken out of service for a refit ASAP, stop selling this cruise ship it wouldn't be excepted in the usa Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary. We explored our departure and ariival cities on our own. We used some of the ship's excursions and also those provided by Abercrombie & Kent. The ship definitely needs to be refurbished - it's old and tired looking. The gym, spa and beauty parlor also needs to be modernized. Our cabin was nice and spacious - just a bit dark and very small veranda that needed to be better maintained. The TV in the room didn't work well and the ship should provide more than 1 hour of wifi service per day. The food and service in Main Dining Room was very good. La Terraza restaurant was OK and the buffets offered during the day were mediocre. Room service was very good!! Our meal in Le Champagne was outstanding! The evening in La Terraza on the 19th featuring the visiting French chef was excellent! The Grill during lunch was OK but the wait staff were frequently overwhelmed with the number of guests to serve. The SilverSea singers were very talented and enjoyable, the pianist, Nataliia was excellent but the guitarist/singer Charlie's repertoire was not current. The girls in the Beauty Parlor should speak better English. Our wait staff were all great as were the butler and his assistant. The Concierges need more training on what if offered in the Ports of call. It's time for the Cruise Director to retire. We would go again perhaps on a newer ship. Read Less

Chose this trip due to places to visit, had experience before on other Celebrity vessel, was very disastrous indeed. Gave second change, but invane the company has got no expectations, no whow factor, no one on board seem to be excited to serve guest, breakfast very shambolic, coffee at buffet always cold, charged a fortune on service charge and gratuities which I declined to pay!! At each port, there where long and long queues, in some port the city where very very far indeed, the company should have planned or done something about it! Never again to say the least. There are many other cruise liners in the market who wants your custom and deliver what it is been asked for. It was great to see the Wall of china, and all the temples in Korea, the best of all was Japan. There are more but dont want to pursued any longer because I feel to waist my time. Read Less

We chose the cruise for 2 reasons. To experience the Brand with a view to using them again and to see the destinations on this trip. That was - Hong Kong down to Indonesia. The ship is dated and the air con is ferocious everywhere. People were in the show lounge each night with outdoor coats on. Whilst some people do stick to the dress code, it is not encouraged and there are people in the dining room with jeans and Tshirts at dinner. The food was good initially but was quickly repetative and the standard dropped after the first fortnight. The cost of the trips is eye watering and the ship docks at container ports and long distances away from the featured destinations. It is then necessary to take their trips as the time schedules for departures are tight and there is a danger of not being back on time if you decide to go independently. Many people complained about this as this cruise was all about the destinations! We chose an ocean view cabin but were very disappointed as the noise from the next cabin was terrible. After enquiries it turned out to be 4 children aged 8 and 12 years who were in the cabin alone and unsupervised. Reception refused to move us stating the ship was full. This was untrue as it was not full at that time. We then had to wait to the end of the first leg of the voyage and pay for an upgrade to get the peace we were entitled. Reception saw no problem with 4 children alone in a room. THIS IS VERY BAD HOLLAND AND AMERICA. The entertainment was often poor with much repetition and weak resident singers. They need a new cruise director. Read Less

After several cruises on Celebrity we decided to try NCL for my wifes birthday. We had just sailed a very similar itinerary on X Millenium for Xmas and NYE. Our concerns started several weeks before the cruise when we read about the azipod/propulsion issues. The cruises before ours were also affected and those passengers received compensation of 150% and then 100% (in various formats) while ours only received 20% with NO option to cancel. The 2 Thailand stops were removed and an extra Vietnam stop was added. The most concerning issue was the way NCL handled this, they refused to provide any information about the ship problems, no option to cancel, refused to give updated information and even worse were usually hostile and downright rude on both the telephone and on email. In the week leading up to the cruise we received 3 different itinerary changes from our TA and all of these differed to what other passengers were reporting on our Rollcall. On embarkation our itinerary changed again and this had a major bearing on our plans to see more of Singapore and be able to contact relatives about an operation one was having. Our TA (the largest online) called us as we were boarding the ship to tell us of the new itinerary - they were clearly embarrassed with what NCL was doing. Interestingly, the captain joined the ship on our cruise and was quite forthright in stating the ship should have been dry docked. Embarkation was average, it took about an hour or so. I am not sure how much of this is NCL and how much is the Singapore port. The ridiculous water policy of NCL was also causing havoc as people were buying 1 or 2 bottles at the port (it is over 30c in Singapore) only for it to be confiscated. Once onboard we went straight to guest relations and they were great, they let us call our relatives to get an update and took a record of what had happened with head office. We decided to move on from the problems and have a good time and this is exactly what we had while onboard. We decided to not go ashore at any port as we had cancelled all our private arrangements with the itinerary problems and refused to give NCL anymore money especially as they would not give the partial refund until post cruise. The ship is quite old but a good size, it takes a bit of getting used to in terms of navigating as it does not flow smoothly, you often have to change floors and then return to your original floor in a different location to get to your destination. Most passengers referred to it as a maze. The decor reminded us of Las Vegas, it is a bit gaudy but it matches the fun, freestyle atmosphere they are trying for. It was very different to the classical designs we have found on most other ships. We loved the promenade deck, the atrium, all the little seats in the public areas, the various bars and activities but did not like the pool area (too smoky and not enough loungers in shady areas) especially all the slides (made it feel cramped and they have a kids pool anyway). We hated the uncomfortable theatre. Our cabin was an OV with picture window. It was a different layout then normal and felt cramped with the 2 desks and the extra bed mount. The bed was great and very comfortable. There was plenty of storage but don't like the shelves hidden in the closet. Loved the shower and bathroom design. Dining - large amount of options. Loved the casual atmosphere of Aqua (and the ship in general), liked the design of Versailles. There was a lot of meal choices but the food quality was average at best. Service was very good. The best aspect of the ship is the choice and we loved dining in Osheehans especially for breakfast and lunch; Ginza was a nice alternative as well. The buffet feels like a school canteen and we don't like the lack of an outdoor area adjoining the buffet. Food was reasonable with plenty of choice. Bars - we had the UBP which was great from an alcohol perspective but terrible for anything else, this is the most expensive package we have seen and it doesn't include water, coffee, canned soft drinks, juices etc. We felt it was poor value overall. Bar service was mostly excellent with plenty of table service in most venues, I don't like the concept of pre made cocktails but they were always prepared to make fresh ones when we asked. There was a good selection of most alcoholic beverages with the exception of wine which was very limited and of a very low level the ones that were included. Entertainment - we loved all the activities and the staff who ran them (special shout out to Tiara and Natasha). We did them all, trivia, puzzles, shuffleboard, wii games, game shows etc ... it was a lot of fun. Shows - we hated the theatre, it was cramped and difficult to get seats with everyone on the aisles and there is nowhere to put your drinks. The stage was clearly too small for the production shows with the dancers lacking space. The productions singers were the worst we have heard. The production shows were average (with the exception of the last one). We loved the crew talent show. The professional acts were mostly good with the comedian a standout, the one singer was average and the rest were circus style acts mostly of good quality. Service on the ship was mostly outstanding which is impressive considering all the problems the ship has had. We were disappointed that they wanted money for upgrades considering the ship was only 3/4 full and with the itinerary problems and poor compensation they could have used this better in these one off circumstances. Ports - we have been to all these places before and chose to not get off. Most of our friends were disappointed as places like Sanya and Nah Trang have little to offer; Saigon and Danang ports are miles from the port. We only heard negative feedback relating to NCL shore excursions with buses breaking down, lack of time at venues, poor seating at shows etc being regular feedback - not to mention the high prices. Overall, it felt like NCL was going out of their way to nickel and dime to try and recuperate their losses from the recent sailings. There were no onboard discounts to try and make up for all the problems. We still had a good time and enjoyed trying a different cruise line. We would consider using NCL again due to the onboard experience but their head office behaviour certainly doesn't help so it will more than likely come down to price compared to our usual lines. Travelling is one of my work, I go aboard almost every month. However this trip, I really had some bad experiences and want to share with all the travelers. We left from Hong Kong and cruised to Okinawa and Xiaman, then back to Hong Kong. We had a horrible weather and unsmooth sailing. Owing to the bad weather, shows were cancelled most of the night, most activities were cancelled because they have to secure the safety of the performers that I can accept. Since all the entertainments were suspended, we can do nothing but hangout bars. There is one piano bar named " Schooner Bar". It operates daily from 6-11 pm with different performers to play piano. However, surprised me that on Nov 8, I went to Schooner Bar at 6:15pm, I found two tables of ladies were playing Mahjong ( Chinese chips game )while the pianist was performing. I talked to the bartender and requested him to stop those irrespective ladies affecting my enjoyment. He asked me to go to guest service center to find some officers to handle. I went to the guest services centre to lodge the complaint at 6:29 pm. It seems their guest services officer didn’t know how to tackle this kind of question. He tried to make some calls and comforted me that someone is going to handle. I went to the bar and waited till 7:00pm. No officers came. To show my full support to the pianist, I sat in front of his piano and applauded loudly until those ladies felt sorry and left. On the next day , Nov 9, it happened again. One table of ladies was playing the same game while pianist and violinist were performing. I urged to talk to the manager who responsible for the bar. The bar tender called couple times, 30 mins later, I can’t believe how efficient the staff is. A gentleman named Douglas,Beverage Manager ,came, I asked him how come they are allowed to play games in a piano bar that disturbing us to enjoy the performance. Ironically, he replied “That is their right to do that”. “Come on, this is a piano bar, not a game room, I have my right to enjoy the performance too”. “They have their rights to play their game, same theory applies to if someone talk loud in the bar, should I stop them from talking?” I was so disappointed and angry to his response, so I begged “ Could you please talk to them and ask them to switch to other places to play their game because the sound made in the game was annoying” “ Sorry, I won’t do that. You need to accept it is a public area” “ Why you won’t protect your staffs from his work” “ He is doing fine.” A china mainland lady ,who I met her on the deck couple days before, told me she heard “ THE MUSIC OF ANGER” What a shame that being a manager will reply a customer like this. He didn’t even try to do anything but just gave me a negative answer. I talked to some passengers in the boat, I was told it was the worst cruise they ever took. 1) No substitution for the cancelled show. The first night we went to 270, show cancelled and nothing played in the theatre. Not even a singer to sing. 2) Complimentary foods suck. On 14/F, everyday foods are the same, If you want to have a nicer food. please pay. 3) Activities for flowrider , rock climbing and Bum Bum car needed to queue for long. Why can’t it make reservation? Flowrider is the activities I really want to play but I queued for 45 mins, I gave up. Because, everyone can have only 2 mins to play. Surprisingly the IFlow can operate even the bad weather ( because it is charged?) 4) Room cleaning is bad. I took some beers back to the room, after cleaning, the empty bottles were still there. I took a glass of whisky back to the room, after cleaning, the empty glass was still there. The cleaning standard is far behind those 3 or 4 stars hotel. 5) I can only put the thumb up is the attitude of your front line staffs, they are cheerful and helpful. I recorded what happened on Schooner bar on that night, I think no one will accept it happened if you are in the same cruise. Soon or later I will post it in youtube and Weixin to share my memorable cruise. Read Less

Whilst we enjoyed the cruise - new places - new people and warm (too hot) lol weather, many aspects were disappointing. I would suggest mainly due to bad management. This was our first cruise with RCI and from what non whingers had suggested previously had high hopes. Day 1 - missed out on lunch as we were advised that we would not be boarded until 5pm so rather than sit for an anticipated 3 hours in the terminal changed our transfer. from 1.30 to 3pm. When we got there the terminal was all but deserted as everyone who ignored the timings were just boarded when they got there!! Quote RCI "Beverage & Wine Packages: It is not truly a vacation until you have a fruity drink with a tiny paper umbrella in your hand. Start enjoying your vacation with a refreshing beverage the moment you get onboard by reserving a beverage package." On route to a bar we passed the beverage package sales person and just asked what I thought would be a simple question and really didnt get the answer I expected. Me " is there a list anywhere of what drinks we can have on this package - which wines and what other drinks/coffees. RCI Drinks package specialist " That package is no longer valid for wine, beer it is now only a soft drinks package" 40 minute wait at customer services who just said the advice was incorrect and yes we could have wine and beer Oddly? they didnt ask who had given the "Soft drinks only" line my feeling is that the whole thing was engineered by RCI - They had told the drinks package sellers to say what they said. The bar "menu" in anchors aweigh had 3 intriguing cider type drinks unfortunately bar staff had not heard of them? Dinner Romeo & Juliet - First night dinner was terrible food and service (Other reviewers have said that food was good and it was brought in containers from the US.) In this case many containers were left in the dock in hong kong and at question time it was admitted that the beef was not very good as it was from China. Variety and quality of food in R & J was poor compared to other MDRs. Fish referred to in the menu was always "not available" and was substituted by another. Service was variable - one night took 2.5 hours we were not offered bread and plates were removed one at a time and taken to the station. A few days into the cruise we eventually found a table with delightful, efficient, friendly and entertaining waiter and assistant, (Tu and Joy Lish) so we just turned up there every night. Table for 10 usually only 8 of us and our team made sure we were never late for a show. This was the only table we used where between courses the crumbs were removed with a knife Talking of the shows - these were poor productions by the rcci singers and dancers compared to others we have seen. Some of the "brought in" acts were good 3? very good and one was dire. Not sure about the centrum as a venue not enough seating or standing room for that matter and if lucky enough to get a seat couldnt see much that was going on. Day 2 - (no I am not doing a day by day whinge) Went to the first lecture on Chinese art we gave up after 20 minutes of the presentation system not working or the presenter not being able to operate it and didnt bother with the rest after that. This was followed up in the afternoon by a "Shore Excursions information talk Ports of call in asia. " On other cruises we have found these very useful - details and pictures of what you will see on excursions and what to do in port if you are not on an excursion. This was sadly lacking as the talk was delivered in very poor English and was simply read out from the description on the Shore excursion sales info. Fairly clear the presenter had not actually been to any of the places. Also on other cruises we were given small maps with directions and main places of interest the day befor the port so you could plan a route. ( if only to the nearest bar) Although expensive we enjoyed the classic excursion to Manilla guide was very informative and English very good. Excursion to the underground river. - One mad dash there and back- guide was useless gave no information or commentary (unlike others) gave one answer to a question from the people in the front seat and didnt even bother telling it to anyone else. Pointed us to the boat waiting area - didnt accompany us. On to the hotel for lunch pointed out the dining area and left. The boatman was very good had his own commentary additional to the electronic one. I will say nothing about the poor tendering arrangements as this may or may not have been controllable however the system for issuing the van/ coach tickets seemed rather complicated- this was made worse by the dispatcher not being able to pronounce sticker and ticket with sufficient clarity to distinguish the difference. Other problem areas - we enjoy quizzes and whilst there were many the team was not at all organised. The questions were not properly prepared in advance at least twice we had the same questions, and on 2 others the printing was incorrect. On sea days the schooner bar is too small to accommodate quizzes and the venues kept changing after people had complained. We know its meant to be fun but even so, well organised fun is better. The schooner bar and centrum were also used for crafting and dancing and participation games but both were far too small. Last and least : Future Cruise team - make an appointment? anyway I noticed that no-one was waiting and it looked like they were finishing so I hung about to ask a question to see if I wanted to make an appointment. Next appointment came in and I asked if they minded me jumping in front of them to ask my question and it was not a problem. Future Cruises however seemed taken aback at such an idea, but I asked my question anyway. Did they have any details of the cruise to Barcelona on Lots at the end of its days in Australasia. The answer came back that they were taking no passengers on that cruise. ( I wear hearing aids in both ears and bearing in mind that the answer was delivered in a very heavy chinese accent I rephrased the question in case I had misheard. Something like - so the ship is sailing back to Barcelona without any passengers? The second reply simply confirmed the first so I just gave up. Thinking about it perhaps they meant that whilst it was a future cruise that would have passengers and it was within the onboard future cruise offer period this was something else that RCCI were not going to honour. As the ship has been sold I cant see RCCL taking much note of anything regarding the vessel but there was nothing wrong with the vessel or the crew but the lack of organisation and supervision of the crew (75% new to the ship I understand) meant a lot of people were less than pleased with the overall cruise.experience. Went on this cruise for our anniversary and my wife's birthday, what a disaster! We flew 10000 miles total to start the cruise, booked over $1100 in shore excursions months ago, and were very excited to be going. Took our passports away in Hong Kong without any prior notice, scrambling to get at least photos of them as they rushed us to the next waiting area. First few days ran out of foods, water, ice, coffee, juices, soft ice cream, and on and on! After 10 days, no changes. First big tour we had paid for was canceled at 11pm the night before. No call or notice, just happened to read it in the room daily information paper. Took the $and put it in the on board account rather than the credit card we had paid for it on. The second port was a very bad snorkeling trip, in one of the most beautiful places to visit to see underwater life. A roped off spot with nothing empressive to see. The third spot, bali ,we were told we couldn't leave the ship until after all the tours through the ship were gone, we got to port and were cleared by customs by 7:30am but can't go to shore until almost 11am! Then when returning to the ship we had to wait for 2 hours to get back on board. This was on day 8, still empty ice cream, ice machine, water, juices machine, coffee, food still running out all the time, front guest services desk just doesn't seem to care, ask a question about anything and you will get a different story from each person behind desk, usually none of them is the truth or right. Shore excursions desk the same, both very abrupt and of no help. Now when we got back from shore we're left a message that or great barrier reef tour has ben canceled also! $600 paid months ago not put on my c card, but in ship credit. Everyday has been another battle with one of the two desks. If we try to get another tour we're told it's too late they're sold out. Also it is average 30 min + wait to get nowhere with them. This is a very short list of the problems we, and hundreds of other passengers, if not 10 times that are encountering daily. I would not have believed that RC would be this bad.and along with all this they keep pushing for you to book another cruise in advance. IN SHORT, Do not book with this company, or at very least, legend of the sea. RATING . 000000 Read Less

Just came back from Hong Kong. OK the ship is tired, the food has been better but the entertainment was good. Anyone who makes my bed, cooks my food and washes the dishes I love. What about the lovely girls who keep the public toilets clean. Always around bless them. They are the ones I tip. Keep RC coming to Brisbane. Just put a wharf the other side of the bridge and bus us from Portside! We have substantial cruising experience, and go on several cruises each year. We love the trivia section, but please assign the trivia session to staff who can speak English. James is absolutely first class as a trivia presenter. I don't need to tell you that trivia is very popular. However, Schooner Bar is too small to accommodate the crowd comfortably. Crown and Anchor is much better. We would also like to express our appreciation to Laura Martinez for the great hospitality she and her staff in Diamond Club provided. A lovely lady. Read Less

Food inedible, staff inexperience, condition of ship old and tired. Never been offer so many pasta dishes for dinner. The cheapest food you can provide. Pasta with fake crab, chicken and tilapia. Watery oat meal, for breakfast. Fishy smelling fish for lunch, watery orange juice, and milk. For 18 days cruise we never saw lobster, and only once was offer a prime rib, unfortunately, it is so tough that it cannot be cut using a steak knife let alone edible. Why would a cruise line offer such low quality food when food cost is one of the least expansive operating cost. The offering on TV is a joke, there is only very old reruns like big bang theory, and person of interest and only ONE episode of each to be rerun for 18 days and night, really??? Other passenger who have been on this same boat only 10 months ago reported that the good was better. There is a feeling that since the ship is sold, we don't need to try and let just take the money from the passengers and give them the absolute worst and cheapest food the company can buy as the boat will no longer be associated with Royal Caribbean. This is by far the worst cruise I have been on and the worst vacation by a long shot. I feel that Royal Caribbean need to provide full refund plus damages incurred by their passengers. Read Less

A mental picture: We never, never ever complain. Having just returned from the HK to Brisbane RCI 18 day cruise we feel totally disillusioned, debarking from a third rate floating craft. There were so many glaring issues on board that one would not even comprehend where to start to list them plus the fact I have only a certain amount of time atm. This cruise was so unlike previous RCI cruises we have travelled on - the last one only 6 months previous on the same ship. We were 1st sitting every night in the MDR on a table of 10 of which only 4 occupied for the most part, the food choice and quality was non existent, giving us both food poisoning after a few days, it was no better in the Windjammer with the same menu just about every day - the fruit bread pieces were indeed 'fresh' for only the first 2 days of the trip and were hard from thereon. After the first 4 days one was convinced that we had boarded a training ship, for a multitude of reasons! C'mon RCI you surely can do better than this, after all we had paid you the full fare and to be treated as such, really turns you off your product. On a brighter note the main staff went about their duties well and I'm sure everyone loved the antics of Keith and Saini under the command of Captain Kjell Nordmo (who certainly knew his task) and it was also nice to meet new folk (who concurred with the issues) albeit under such circumstances. As the title says was or first Royal Caribbean cruise and as a group of 6 was so disappointed having sailed last year with P&O from Singapore to brisbane was excited to be going with Royal Caribbean but what a waste of time even doing any pre cruise planing they just don't even know what's going on From the first afternoon with a lost bag was given the run around then when it came to dining as a group we book 5pm ha ha yer you guessed it 8.30 and all sitting at different tables wasn't until the next night that they tried to sort it ended up at one temperary table that was later made as ours Then well the shore tours one major stuff up again booked the first boat only to be put on three different boats and left at the ferry by the tour guide to find our own way lucky somebody sort of knew a bit about the fact we had to get radios and hard hats at the underground river or we would still be waiting Ext was the major tender stuff up in Benoa standing on the wharf for 40. Minutes in the hot sun nice not Then mmmm about the extra charges on the bill after having pre paid Gratuities then having them removed on the second day because of all the drama getting double charges for specialty dining Overall you would think that they would get it right but no After many long emails and phone calls to get offered wow $50.00 each future credits what a joke Read Less

We chose the cruise for the Ports of call & arrival destination of Brisbane (our home city). Sailed from Hong Kong with stops in Manila, Puerto Princess, Kota Kinabalu, Bali, Darwin, Cairns & Airlie Beach. The ship has been sold & it felt evident during our cruise. Staterooms very dated. Food in dining room very disappointing (numerous meals sent back). We had room key issues with having to get one sea pass replaced 8 times during the journey. Wifi advertising misleading so we opted for none. Shore excursions misleading (wildlife sanctuary in Kota Kinabalu is a Zoo). Cruise arrived in most ports after 9am which meant that you couldn't book a local tour of the reef as they all depart by 9am, one staff member said they have to sail slowly because there is shopping on board. On board activities - not enough indoor - didn't improve until last 3 days. Housekeeping staff were excellent. Cruise Director - WHO? Saw the Captain more than the CD. All that said we had a lovely holiday. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary. The port experiences were as expected, quite happy with the ports ..... all first time visits except Australia. It was a very low budget cruise ..... but the cruise price wasn't!!!! Embarkation was very smooth at the Kai terminal. It is huge, the team were organized and kept the crowd moving smoothly. It was nothing like the mess we had heard of from previous cruisers. They have listened to previous reviews .... thank you for that. The cruise clientele was mixed, Australian, US, Asian, Canadian and European. A wide range of tastes to accommodate. The food was repetitive, and pretty much boring. The beef was horrible, there was more salmon served then I have ever seen. The 'used food' in the buffet had no flavor and obvious ..... last night's Yorkshire pudding, veggies, roast meats chopped, sliced etc and recooked..... tough, dry and tasteless. Small but I loved it .... there were poached eggs and hollandaise in the buffet every day. =0) Many of the staff were new, lacking training and nervous for the first few days of the cruise. No one seemed to know what they were doing. The dining service improved as the days went on. Many officers seemed to be in active clean up duty. The bar staff were all excellent. The CD team was wonderful. We really enjoyed James, Sophie and Shreta (sp), they are personable, professional and top notch. The spa offers were generous. I had my gel nails repaired, excellent service. The comedians, musicians, hypnotist, orchestra and small bands were all very good. The officer entertainment was the best! It was really nice to see the officers in events during the cruise. The dance team were good, the shows were not what we have come to expect from RCCL. The Diamond teams in both the lounge and Viking overflow and our cabin staff Okle and Ide were also excellent. The ship was in good condition. We weren't sure what this would be like considering it has been sold, delivery to happen in 2017. It was not a good example of an RCCL cruise, many first timers we met said they would not choose RCCL again. We took the Legend in 2007 to the Mexican Riviera, and it was pretty much the same. We found it very strange and interesting that it hadn’t changed. The ship won’t be available …. But not sure we would do this itinerary again. Read Less

The embarkation process in Hong Kong was smooth and quick. The Legend of the Seas, whilst small, was a great home for 18 nights. The crew were helpful, although a few of them were new and learning it didn't interfere with the amazing service. Our cabin, with balcony, was clean and big enough for the 2 of us. Our cabin steward was excellent and kept it clean and tidy the whole time. We dined in the dining room very night and our food was delicious and plentiful. The staff there ensured my gluten free diet was looked after properly. There was plenty of activities and entertainment, although there was a bit of time in the afternoons where not too much happened. Either way you could find something to do if you went looking! Overall, the service was excellent and given this was our 6th cruise with Royal Caribbean, we will definitely cruise with them again. In fact we have booked son Anthem of the Seas next September! The experience was a great one! Read Less

This was a really relaxing cruise. Legend have great staff who go out of their way to help. We had an issue with our cabin (#3533) which was located under the glass washing room for the R Bar and Schoner Bar. So every night between 10.30 - 2.30 was a bit of noise. Day 6 we spoke to Adeline from guest service and we were shifted to #8075. An awesome cabin and location. We were surprised she shifted us, as we said we were happy where we were, but could they ask to get them to control the noise. The only real issue, if you can call it that !!! was at Bali. Royal Caribbean used local tenders as this was a tender port. The tender ashore went well, but the winds came up around 11.00am. We returned at 11.30am and it was a slow return and very rough. Because the tenders used carried 150 - 180 pax, loading and unloading was really slow, because numbers as well as a lot of disabled people on this cruise. (Which was great to see, as in Pacific Island tender ports "if you can't walk on tender, you don't go")so this meant tenders were sitting and waiting to unload on ship for 20-30 min. But weather isn't Captains fault, and he has no control over the speed of local tender operators. I think the only downside for us was the constant whinging from so called well travelled cruisers about everything (24/7). Some people just need to chill out and smell the roses. We always dine in the Main dining room, as not a fan of the buffets. Think they bring the worst out in people plus they always over eat. Dining room food and service was great. People on our table had some meal they didn't like or wasn't what they expected, but waiter replaced it straight away with what ever they wanted. Keith and Sanie were awesome as always, and the staff all over the ship were really helpful, I think it's a same RCI are selling the Legend and moving to bigger ships. We like the small ships as you get to know all the staff and know your needs with in a few days. Thank you Legend of the Seas for a great cruise. Read Less

Over the years we have had many cruises on a variety of ships, this cruise from Hong Kong to Brisbane is by far the worst we have experienced. Boarding was a big plus in Hong Kong but on boarding there was no assistance to find our cabin, no little ship map, nobody to point us in the direction we needed. 1st evening drinks in the schooner bar were a disaster as the noise was horrendous with someone on a mike trying to talk down the crowd, we moved to the Centrum only to be blasted by a 6 piece band playing at 150 decibels in a small area. So much for a quiet drink, & this kept up for the entire journey, there just wasn't anywhere to get away from the constant noise of people screaming into microphones in the lounges or on deck. The only quiet spot was the Viking Crown lounge but you were barred after 4.30pm. Main dining had to be the most poorly organized, an evening meal could take over 2 hours, lunch was the same with only soup & main being served in that time. We never got deserts as after 2 hours we gave up & left The Windjammer bistro was permenantly overcrowded, breakfast omlete could take 1/2 hour in line to be served, only 1 server/cook for 2000 people, toast was served by 1 opereator with 1 toaster with long lines for service. We won't mention the quality of the food on offer but needless to say it was cold, tastless, poorly presented, meats were generally rehashed from previous offerings & hot didn't occur. After 2 days at sea the bars ran out of Australian & S/E asia beers on a ship full of Australians. Drink vending & ice cream machines constantly had signs "out of order" on them or were not refilled. 60 % of passengers contracted a chest/throat infection due {I think} to the poorly maintained air filters etc. The ship had a terrible musty smell about it, It took us 5 hours to get off the ship in Bali by tender & then 3 hours to get back on If you didn't buy a ship's tour {seriously overpriced} you were relegated to getting off after all tours had departed. Wait staff were constantly saying sorry for the poor food quality being served up & our waiter would bring back-up main courses for that which was rejected Have just been to the GP because of the virus contracted on the ship, am advised it is a serious bout of broncitus bordering on pnumonia & could take a month to recover using antibiotics We will not be back on a Royal Carabean ship again & many passengers I spoke with said the same, NEVER AGAIN Read Less

We chose this cruise because of its itinerary and becasue, as a repositoning cruise, it offered good value. There were many positives about this cruise - 1. Our junior suite was very roomy, well set out, with lots of storage space. The balcony was also a good size, ideal for drying laundry. The bathroom included a bath, and had good lighting - a rarity in so many hotel bathrooms these days. 2. The food and service in the dining room were both excellent. 3. There was plenty of entertainment, although much of its was pretty standard pub entertainment. 4. A choice of bars and lounges gave options for socialising. 5. Our waiters and stateroom attendant were all brilliant. They work so hard! 6. Speciality restaurants such as the Chops Grille offer very good quality meals at a reasonable price. However, there were many negatives, and some of these were significant. 1. We only booked one shore excursion, mainly because the prices were so high. The Manilla city historic tour was very interesting, but terribly rushed! They tried to pack far too much in, and our guide, poor woman, was determined to squeeze all the sites in, even though bad traffic meant we were running late. We had about 25minutes in the National Museum, and I was so frustrated. There were many interesting exhibits, but she kept herding us through like cattle. The size of the group (40) meant that only the few standing right near her could hear the commentary - that is such bad organisation. What about a microphone? 2. A major problem lay in the huge delays and inefficiency when it came to transporting people off the ship on tenders. The groups who had booked cruise excursions always had first preference - that's fine, but what about all those who want to free range? At Bali we waited nearly 3 hours for our numbered ticket to be called. Given the traffic problems in Bali, that meant we could not possibly get to Ubud, the main cultural site. It was a totally wasted day. At Airllie Beach, similar chaos prevailed. The ship management really needs to get this right. 3. The prices at the beauty spa were exorbitant, especially given that 18 % gratuity on top of everything. 4. Oh those dreadful art auctions! Who dreams up this kind of thing? The standard of art made Ikea productions look like Renaissance art. It just seemed that at every possible opportunity, the management was trying to squeeze money out of passengers. 5. DRinks are exorbitant, but I suppose that is to be expected. 6. The Windjammer Cafe offered 3 meals a day, but it was appalling quality. Think school cafeteria. 7. Any complaints were politely received by staff at the guest services desk, but then nothing happened. We saw staff listen to the complaints, and then....they did not even record the issue of concern on their computer. They just turned to the next person, smiling benignly. 8. The pool at the aft deck had dangerously slippery tiles all around the area. Despite being very careful, one of our group slipped and injured her knee. Surely people slip there all the time! But, the management just puts up signs saying - caution - slippery floors!! Well, fix the floors!! Put down outdoor carpet or rubber matting. Is that so hard? Read Less
