Route actually travelled: 45 days round trip San Diego including 16 ports of call: 5 stops in Hawaii, 1 in Samoa, 2 in Fiji, 1 in Tonga, 1 in Cook Islands, and 6 in Polynesia.
"Due to the length of the cruise, cabin stewards and dining room wait staff got to know our individual habits and likes/dislikes.Covid: As this cruise was longer than 16 days, HAL required all passengers to have a negative test no older than 72 hours before boarding...."Read More

More than met my expectations

Review for a Africa Cruise on Zuiderdam

Itinerary- Africa at the top of my bucket list. Most ports were readily available to walk through. Ship tours ranged in price- from inexpensive to YIKES! Even though I now travel solo, I was comfortable and at ease. Staff on board exceptional- always willing to answer questions, give directions when we got lost or needed more information. Cabin stewards were always going the extra mile to make ...

This is the cruise that ruined Holland America for us

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Zuiderdam

We were so disappointed with HAL, that we will not sail with them again. It was a 30 day cruise (the 16 Day Cruise listed here plus a 14 day cruise attached). This was our 4th cruise with them and prior to this, we couldn't say enough good things about them. This time, it was awful. There were many issues with the food, the entertainment, issues with our stateroom, rude behavior by staff (not the ...

As good as it gets

This is our first HAL Cruise, and I’m sold. My wife and I have been on just about every cruise line, but finally we have found our niche. Holland offers everything I want. The ship is spotless, the crew most hospitable and professional. The services on the ship from dining to cabin service top notch. For those who are concerned, there are multiple closets and under-bed drawers that are very large. ...

Smooth crossing, interesting ports, music walk entertainment was lacking.

This was our 6th HAL cruise. Our interest in this crossing was sparked by the interesting ports (Cork, Waterford, Torquay, and Dover) in Ireland and the UK. Our cabin stewards (Rio and Ewan) were phenomenal and kept the cabin in perfect shape. They are assigned approximately 35 cabins to take care of by HAL which is an unreasonable workload. We had great dinner and lunch in the Pinnacle Grill with ...

Not what it used to be - being handicapped is a problem

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Zuiderdam

We are 3 star, almost 4 star mariners. We like Holland America for its itineraries and its staff. Let me be clear: for the most part we enjoyed our cruise. Our cabin was very comfortable and spotless. Our stewards were very customer oriented. Our excursions were great fun. However, from the beginning things were not as good as they used to be. Embarkation with Orange Status should have been ...

We have sailed 7 times on HAL and have always enjoyed the cruises. This was the first HAL cruise that did not meet our expectations. While the service and crew members were outstanding as usual, our main complaint was the quality of the food and the food selections in the MDR. Many times at dinner in the MDR our server did not ask if we wanted a drink or wine with dinner and rarely were we asked ...

Defiantly a cruise I'll remember

Review for a World Cruise Cruise on Zuiderdam

We purchased a Neptune suite in the rear corner, so we had good all-round views and a large veranda. The only thing that was good about this expensive cruise were the workers on board. Very good people. Cabin - Large but many issues listed below. Food - Good at start but got worse over the trip. The specialty restaurants were much better than the public ones. Entertainment - Similar all ...

Worst mainstage performance on board

Review for a Caribbean - Western Cruise on Zuiderdam

User Avatar

The mainstage performances were the worst that I had in my 10+ cruise experiences. There were all male performers for the entire trip with very low quality. Obviously, the ship chose to save the cost of using low profile performers. The cruise entertainment director did a very poor job. Also, my first time use luggage case was damaged in the transport from the room to the dock. The food ...

First time with HAL...

Review for a Caribbean - Eastern Cruise on Zuiderdam

Zuiderdam was our first HAL experience. It was our worst overall ship and cruise experience ever. We were greeted in our cabin bath by a gush of brown water from the cold tap, which lasted two days.  There were leaking pipes around the ship, faulty A/C systems, and some of the worst shipboard food. When spaghetti and meatballs were the highlight...but don't expect any Parmesan to top your ...

Good, but not Holland America's usual standard

I've sailed with Holland America three times in the past, all prior to the COVID pandemic. The Westerdam, the Nieuw Amsterdam, and the Eurodam. Each ship impressed with it's service, food, comfort, and laid back style. I am not a fan of the mega ships that are out there and Holland America tends to run in the mid-size ship category. Oh yes, the mega ships at other lines are very ...
